Problem when adjusting screen resolution

Q: Problem when adjusting screen resolution

Hi everyone!
I have a problem when i start using Win7 and adjust my screen resolution...
when i adjust the resolution to 1206x682 or higher, the whole windows become larger and eventually become larger than my screen. So i can see only part of my taskbar. However, this will not happen when i use XP.
Is this normal?
At this time i can't use any video editing software as they require 1024x768 or higher resolution, what should i do?
Sorry for my poor English. I am still an English learner.
thanks!

UPDATE-----
when i set to a higher resolution in XP, the icons are smaller and the size of the windows doesnt change. But when i do this in 7, the size of icons doesnt change but the whole windows become larger.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Until recently, I was always able to adjust my monitor's screen resolution. Now whenever I try to adjust it to 2048 by 1536 pixels (the most resolution), I get an error message that says:

VF: 60.0 Hz

OPERATING FREQUENCY

HF: 30-70 kHz
VF: 50-160 Hz

What does all this mean? Why can't I do something simple like set my screen resolution?

Help would be appreciated... thanks.

So I bought a new netbook for work travel recently and loaded a program that I need to use. Program runs fine and all, however the prescribed screen resolution for the program is 1024x768 and the netbook (with Windows 7 HE and an Intel GMA 3150) doesn't seem to want to go past 1024x600. Does anyone perhaps have a thought or a way to get 7 to display more here? I don't mind if I even just need to scroll around to get to all the material, but right now its just cutting off part of the program making it impossible to work on some of it.

A:Adjusting Netbook Screen Resolution

Hi Orion3,

While your 1024x768 program is a standard 4:3 aspect ratio, 1024x600 is a widescreen aspect ratio (16:9) as many netbooks have. I'm pretty sure that if 600 is the maximum pixel height it can display but you still need to match the 4:3 aspect ratio program, then you'll have to go down to 800x600 rather than up. Try that and let me know how it works.

Cheers,

AOC 2353 monitor, on windows 7 has a recommended resolution of 1920 by 1080

when it is set here I notice even the desktop boots up quick and efficient. opposed to when it is set at 1600 by 900. which is best on the eyes.

problem with 1920 by 1080 is that the folders and print are far too minute to see.

this is with Intel onboard video, from the processor.

is there a way to expand the text and folders? browsers can be zoomed

would having a video card help?

A:adjusting screen resolution - AOC monitor

If you go into the advanced display settings, you can increase the size of items and fonts and can "bold" the text.
I've got bad eyes, so I do this every time I set up one of my computers after I install the Windows operating system.

The native resolution for my 27" monitors is 1920 X 1080.
This is an example of what my desktop looks like after changing the display settings.
As you can see, the icons and text are noticeably larger and bolder than they would be from using the default settings.

I have had my laptop for nearly half a year now and I just recently found an HDMI cable in an old junk box that can be connected from my widescreen Samsung DLP to my Laptop. The problem is that when I set my TV to be the main display the task bar does not fit on screen and I can barely see it. Another problem is when I play my games or watch videos they also appear to be bigger then what my screen is. I cant even see the exit or minus button when I make my windows/browsers in full screen. I have tried changing the screen resolution, but that doesn't work either. I then thought it might be my TV but it does not give my the option to change its aspect ratio.

I there solution to my little problem? Like a download or a program that is naturally in the computer that can adjust the aspect ratio (not resolution) manually for extended displays? And the resolution is on its recommended settings by the way.

A:I need help with adjusting my screen.

What is the graphics card on your laptop? Both AMD and nVidia cards have overscan options in their software which should give you the capability to adjust your display size manually until it fits. Also check that you're outputting the correct resolution for your TV.

First of all, please specify maker and model of your laptop. Some vendors could have their own third party replacements for some functions.

Also, please go to Control Panel - Power Options - on the right side of your current active power plan select "Change plan settings" - in the next window click "Change ADVANCED power settings" - then navigate to - Display - Display brightness and check percentage.

Hello. I'm not certain how long I've had this problem, it seems to have only recently surfaced. If I play a game or something that changes my screen resolution, after I exit out of the game my resolution won't return to normal. I have to select the right resolution and then restart my computer for the settings to work. Can anyone help? :(

A:Screen Resolution problem

The only thing I can think of is to set the computer to where it does not have to restart after changing the resolution. To do this you right click your desktop click properties then settings then advanced. Close down to the bottom of this it says After I change my display settings. Click on the one that says apply the new display settings without restarting. Then click apply and ok as well as the other ok behind that window. Then you should be able to change your display settings without restarting. And maybe if you have a flat screen monitor with a button to press to set it up and a auto setting this might get your screen back to normal. But if not and you have a fat monitor like me which is called a CRT Monitor then you can't really do to much other than keep on changing the display setting. But it should be easier since you shouldn't have to restart it after you change the display settings.

Hi allYesterday I fitted a (used) graphics card in place of the onboard version I used to have. The old one is listed up as an hp [email protected] Intel® 82865G Graphics Controller. It was running fine on the other computer and, funnily enough, it was set at 1024x768. But when I try to set it to 1024x768 resolution on my current computer the screen goes black and then there are flashes of interference lines and then, after about 5 seconds, the screen comes back to normal showing the resolution it was set at before I changed it.Does anyone have any idea on what may be causing this and can it be fixed? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hey guys/girls.. As you'll notice by my elite post count, I'm a brand newby.

I'm fairly experienced PC user, however, I just formatted my system after an uncontrollable virus got into my System32 dir.. At least thats what some free antivirus program said

Anyhow, I formatted, and re-installed all programs as I usually would, reconfigured my PC just as I had it prior format, and installed Norton Antivirus Pro 2003, however, I just tried changing my screen resolution from the standard (800x600px) to a more bearable (1024x768px) and each time I attempt this, the machine instantly resets.

I've checked my Graphics card, and thats firmly plugged in to the motherboard, and the VGA lead to the card is firmly plugged in and screwed in. This is the first time I've ever had this problem, so it's really bugging me to a) get it resolved and b) to find out the problem

Thanks.

Yesterday I installed a driver for my new mouse, then restarted my laptop. After that my resolution is stuck at 1600x1200. When I right click my desktop and click resolution, it says it's at 1920x1080! but it's definitely not.

It also shows a message in the resolution window "If your resolution is below 1600x1200, some items may not fit on the screen".

I tried uninstalling the mouse driver (im not sure if thats the cause of the problem..), I tried rolling back my display driver, then updating it back to normal. I also rebooted my laptop many times.

What should I do? Should I maybe completely uninstall my display driver? If so, how do I re install it? I appreciate any help I could get!!!

I have the same problem. I usually put my computer on Hibernate, or Standby. Well, this time I shut it down. When I turned it back on, the resolution went to a different one. I went to personalize and display settings, raised the bar looking for 1440x900 and didn't find it. It was the highest setting at one point cause it was my native resolution. Now it's gone.
I tried "back-up and restore center" from Start>All programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore
Restored the system. Nothing changed and I went to furthest restore point I possibly could.
Then, I tried to update my drivers through ATI.(some people have Nvidia or something...)
That didn't work out. They said to first download it, uninstall the current driver then install the new one, then reboot.
All it did was add a resolution but didn't add the one I needed.
Then I read somewhere to just unplug my monitor for ten seconds, plug it back in and it in and what do you know. It fixed it.
Then, since I restarted from the restart point, I had to re install the Windows Updates and guess what happened the resolution sucked again.
Now I'm too lazy to restart my computer and unplug it and all that good stuff.
So give all that a try. good luck.

What I meant on that last part about "restarted from the restart point..." was "Restore point". Also, I was working with a laptop today and i have one of those '2 port KVM switches' and decided to use my 17" Gateway monitor as an extend... Read more

So far I have tried to change it back via the control panel and Nvidia control panel to no avail, I tried using custom resolution in Nvidia control panel also the test fails. I have updated display drivers and updated windows 7 to try to fix the problem neither has worked.

The black edges appear normal, but everything else within this frame was larger. When I change the resolution settings it isn't the default setting I've always had (although sometimes it gets close) and the black edges get messed up. When I first started up my computer, the settings were at 800 x 600, and I changed them to 1024 x 768, but the black edges are still messed up and aren't how they should be. Does anybody have any solutions? I've tried just about everything I can think of.

Lately, if monitor goes to standby, upon coming out of it, the resolution will change to 420 X 240 ( or similar), and I have to close all browsers and go to desktop >Screen Res and change it back.

I went to Dev Mgr and clicked update driver, but said I had the latest one, which turned out to be incorrect after I went to the Intel site and they said I needed a new driver.

I installed it, but still have the same problem - intermittently.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks,

We have a computer running Windows 7 with a Gateway LP1925 widescreen monitor. But the only screen resolutions available are 4:3. No driver is available at Gateway. Any ideas on how I can force a 16:9 resolution? I think the monitor's max. res. is 1600x900.

welcome,
If you are running an intel graphics chipset, and you download the latest driver, there is a feature that allows you to set a custom resolution. I wouldn't suggest forcing a resolution though. If the resolution is hidden, it is because it cannot display correctly.

Hello,

Over the past few weeks I have been looking around and noticed that this is a very common issue across laptops that many seem to have with no definite answer. I have an Sony VAIO laptop, running windows 7 home premium , and if i use any program that causes my resolution to change to something smaller than the native 1366 x 768. After playing the game (for example, Warcraft 3), I return to my desktop with no issue, the resolution changes everytime. I close the lid or restart, it also changes the resolution. All of my windows 7 and graphics drivers are up to date, and still the issue persists. It is extremely annoying to have to change the settings every time I log in.

Any help someone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Do you use any secondary/external monitor for the laptop on your user profile?

Hello!

I've just installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit. My graphics card is geforce 8800gts 320mb and my screen is hyundai imagequest L72D. My screen does support 1280x1024 but 7 gives only the options of 800x600 and 1024x768. I've installed the latest nvidia drivers for that card also. 7 shows my screen as PD421 analog. Dunno why. I'd like to get that 1280x1024 resolution to use because I don't like this 1024x768. I used Windows XP before and in XP I can use that resolution.

Please someone help.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate RC 32 bit that I'm using in dual-boot mode with Windows XP Professional SP2. I am using an old ViewSonic monitor and I don't have the drivers. Windows XP is apparently using a generic driver which lets me set any screen resolution I like and I usually use 1024x768. Windows 7 has a generic driver which will only allow 800x600. Does anyone know if the Windows XP video driver will work in Windows 7 and, if so, the best way to copy and install it?

A:Problem with screen resolution

Its not the monitor - You need to install Windows 7 Drivers for your Graphics Hardware.

A monitor by default uses a Generic PNP Monitor or Generic Non PNP Monitor Driver, either one should not affect what resolution you can run it at. What graphics adaptor do you have? I'd be happy to help you find drivers for it..

I have an NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT video card installed on my new HP Pavillion dv7 1034ca laptop. It came with Vista Home Premium. So the first thing I did was intall Vista Ultimate. When I did that, the resolution was reset to 800x600.

I reinstalled all the drivers, including the one for the NVIDIA card. When I went to change the resolution, I noticed that the highest I could go was 1440x900. Which is ok but I remember being able to go to a higher resolution when I had Vista Home Premium installed.

The reason why I remember is because my icons are a bit larger now than they were before. What's bad is that 1440x900 is the highest I can go. What happened to my higher resolution?

Help?

Hi rayc1234 and welcome to the forums

According to the HP website for your laptop, the highest resolution available is 1440x900 and is limited by the physical capabilities of your display.

To change the resolution of the icons, please refer to the following Tutorial.

Hey guys,
I had just recently formatted my computer (had to get rid of Vista) and installed XP MCE. I am using a 32" HDTV as my monitor, and changed the resolution on my computer to a wide screen resolution using Media Center. All seemed to be working well, until i closed my Media center. Now all that shows up is "no input" after windows loads. Any help in fixing this problem would be greatly appruciated.

Thanks in advance

Hi: You need this driver for the graphics...Install and restart the PC. This package provides the AMD High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver and Catalyst Control Center for supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. For notebooks with switchable graphics modes, this package includes drivers for both graphics processing units (GPUs). Switchable graphics enable users to switch between a power-saving graphics mode (normally used under battery power) and a high-performance graphics mode. If high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) video output is supported, this package also installs the HDMI Audio Driver. File name: sp48280.exe You need this software for the brightness and audio on screen display... This package provides the HP On-Screen Display Utility for the supported notebook models and operating systems. The HP On-Screen Display Utility enables the pop-up graphic displays that are shown on the screen when certain characteristics, such as volume or brightness, are changed. File name: sp55152.exe
