Problem when adjusting screen resolution

Q: Problem when adjusting screen resolution

Hi everyone!
I have a problem when i start using Win7 and adjust my screen resolution...
when i adjust the resolution to 1206x682 or higher, the whole windows become larger and eventually become larger than my screen. So i can see only part of my taskbar. However, this will not happen when i use XP.
Is this normal?
At this time i can't use any video editing software as they require 1024x768 or higher resolution, what should i do?
Sorry for my poor English. I am still an English learner.
thanks!

UPDATE-----
when i set to a higher resolution in XP, the icons are smaller and the size of the windows doesnt change. But when i do this in 7, the size of icons doesnt change but the whole windows become larger.

but in 1206x682:

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Until recently, I was always able to adjust my monitor's screen resolution. Now whenever I try to adjust it to 2048 by 1536 pixels (the most resolution), I get an error message that says:

VF: 60.0 Hz

OPERATING FREQUENCY

HF: 30-70 kHz

What does all this mean? Why can't I do something simple like set my screen resolution?

Help would be appreciated... thanks.

AOC 2353 monitor, on windows 7 has a recommended resolution of 1920 by 1080

when it is set here I notice even the desktop boots up quick and efficient. opposed to when it is set at 1600 by 900. which is best on the eyes.

problem with 1920 by 1080 is that the folders and print are far too minute to see.

this is with Intel onboard video, from the processor.

is there a way to expand the text and folders? browsers can be zoomed

would having a video card help?

A:adjusting screen resolution - AOC monitor

If you go into the advanced display settings, you can increase the size of items and fonts and can "bold" the text.
I've got bad eyes, so I do this every time I set up one of my computers after I install the Windows operating system.

The native resolution for my 27" monitors is 1920 X 1080.
This is an example of what my desktop looks like after changing the display settings.
As you can see, the icons and text are noticeably larger and bolder than they would be from using the default settings.

So I bought a new netbook for work travel recently and loaded a program that I need to use. Program runs fine and all, however the prescribed screen resolution for the program is 1024x768 and the netbook (with Windows 7 HE and an Intel GMA 3150) doesn't seem to want to go past 1024x600. Does anyone perhaps have a thought or a way to get 7 to display more here? I don't mind if I even just need to scroll around to get to all the material, but right now its just cutting off part of the program making it impossible to work on some of it.

A:Adjusting Netbook Screen Resolution

Hi Orion3,

While your 1024x768 program is a standard 4:3 aspect ratio, 1024x600 is a widescreen aspect ratio (16:9) as many netbooks have. I'm pretty sure that if 600 is the maximum pixel height it can display but you still need to match the 4:3 aspect ratio program, then you'll have to go down to 800x600 rather than up. Try that and let me know how it works.

Cheers,

I have had my laptop for nearly half a year now and I just recently found an HDMI cable in an old junk box that can be connected from my widescreen Samsung DLP to my Laptop. The problem is that when I set my TV to be the main display the task bar does not fit on screen and I can barely see it. Another problem is when I play my games or watch videos they also appear to be bigger then what my screen is. I cant even see the exit or minus button when I make my windows/browsers in full screen. I have tried changing the screen resolution, but that doesn't work either. I then thought it might be my TV but it does not give my the option to change its aspect ratio.

I there solution to my little problem? Like a download or a program that is naturally in the computer that can adjust the aspect ratio (not resolution) manually for extended displays? And the resolution is on its recommended settings by the way.

A:I need help with adjusting my screen.

What is the graphics card on your laptop? Both AMD and nVidia cards have overscan options in their software which should give you the capability to adjust your display size manually until it fits. Also check that you're outputting the correct resolution for your TV.

First of all, please specify maker and model of your laptop. Some vendors could have their own third party replacements for some functions.

Also, please go to Control Panel - Power Options - on the right side of your current active power plan select "Change plan settings" - in the next window click "Change ADVANCED power settings" - then navigate to - Display - Display brightness and check percentage.

Hi! I'm running Vista Ultimate 64-bit. I have a 24" LG Flatron L246WP-BN HD widescreen monitor and an integrated Radeon HD 3300 GPU on my ASUS M3A78-T mobo. After buying the monitor I realized it wouldn't work properly with my old system so I built a completely new one. (Check out my full system specs.) The monitor's native resolution is 1920 x 1200.

The problem I'm having is that I can't set the resolution higher than 1280 x 720. If I do I lose almost one-half of my screen (everything shifts to the left so I can't even see my Start button, etc.).

Am I doing something wrong? What good is it having a widescreen 24" 1920 x 1200 HD monitor if I lose half the screen by setting it to it's native resolution?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Everything was fine.
This morning i get the little yellow exclamation mark on my Nvidia icon in taskbar indicating an update, so i updated and stuff and everything was ok.
I powered down my machine and went and did some things, came back, powered up rig and same damn problem.

Okay so i've always ran my pc on 1920x1080 because it's the resolution of my monitor. Today i upgraded my graphic card from (5970 x2 to GTX 780ti), once i turned on my pc and install the latest driver for the gtx 780t it set the resolution to 1920x1080 which is the recommendation setting, only the resolution seem to be to big, like i can't see half of my desktop icon because it's all the way to left side, and i can't see the window start button. nor the application that is running, i have to set the reslution to 1768x992 which is apparently the next level down. I keep getting resolution notices to set my resolution to 1920x1080 when i lower it. I didnt have this problem when i ran my 5970 card, it was set at 1920x1080 and everything was visible on the screen, but now icons are missing and i can't see the window start button. I've tried to take a screen shot of the problem but when i paste it on to paint everything looks normal, i'm confuse, does anyone know what's going on?

welcome,
If you are running an intel graphics chipset, and you download the latest driver, there is a feature that allows you to set a custom resolution. I wouldn't suggest forcing a resolution though. If the resolution is hidden, it is because it cannot display correctly.

Hey guys/girls.. As you'll notice by my elite post count, I'm a brand newby.

I'm fairly experienced PC user, however, I just formatted my system after an uncontrollable virus got into my System32 dir.. At least thats what some free antivirus program said

Anyhow, I formatted, and re-installed all programs as I usually would, reconfigured my PC just as I had it prior format, and installed Norton Antivirus Pro 2003, however, I just tried changing my screen resolution from the standard (800x600px) to a more bearable (1024x768px) and each time I attempt this, the machine instantly resets.

I've checked my Graphics card, and thats firmly plugged in to the motherboard, and the VGA lead to the card is firmly plugged in and screwed in. This is the first time I've ever had this problem, so it's really bugging me to a) get it resolved and b) to find out the problem

Thanks.

Actually, the work-around is to Turn off the screen saver or set it to the "Blank" screen screen saver. This way the resolution will not be changed during the screen saver run and Vista will not get confused when the computer wakes up.

Hi,

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IN/windows7/products/features/system-restore
If it still does not work, try reinstalling the graphics card as below:
1. Click the Start button and type DEVMGMT.MSC and press Enter.
2. Find out your graphics card, right click on it and choose Uninstall.
3. Also check the uninstall driver software box if it is available.
After that, restart the computer and install driver from the manufacturer's website. Please remember to click ?Mark as Answer? on the post that helps you, and to click ?Unmark as Answer? if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Yesterday I installed a driver for my new mouse, then restarted my laptop. After that my resolution is stuck at 1600x1200. When I right click my desktop and click resolution, it says it's at 1920x1080! but it's definitely not.

It also shows a message in the resolution window "If your resolution is below 1600x1200, some items may not fit on the screen".

I tried uninstalling the mouse driver (im not sure if thats the cause of the problem..), I tried rolling back my display driver, then updating it back to normal. I also rebooted my laptop many times.

What should I do? Should I maybe completely uninstall my display driver? If so, how do I re install it? I appreciate any help I could get!!!

Hello. I'm not certain how long I've had this problem, it seems to have only recently surfaced. If I play a game or something that changes my screen resolution, after I exit out of the game my resolution won't return to normal. I have to select the right resolution and then restart my computer for the settings to work. Can anyone help? :(

A:Screen Resolution problem

The only thing I can think of is to set the computer to where it does not have to restart after changing the resolution. To do this you right click your desktop click properties then settings then advanced. Close down to the bottom of this it says After I change my display settings. Click on the one that says apply the new display settings without restarting. Then click apply and ok as well as the other ok behind that window. Then you should be able to change your display settings without restarting. And maybe if you have a flat screen monitor with a button to press to set it up and a auto setting this might get your screen back to normal. But if not and you have a fat monitor like me which is called a CRT Monitor then you can't really do to much other than keep on changing the display setting. But it should be easier since you shouldn't have to restart it after you change the display settings.

I have an NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT video card installed on my new HP Pavillion dv7 1034ca laptop. It came with Vista Home Premium. So the first thing I did was intall Vista Ultimate. When I did that, the resolution was reset to 800x600.

I reinstalled all the drivers, including the one for the NVIDIA card. When I went to change the resolution, I noticed that the highest I could go was 1440x900. Which is ok but I remember being able to go to a higher resolution when I had Vista Home Premium installed.

The reason why I remember is because my icons are a bit larger now than they were before. What's bad is that 1440x900 is the highest I can go. What happened to my higher resolution?

A:Problem with Screen resolution

I have the same problem. I usually put my computer on Hibernate, or Standby. Well, this time I shut it down. When I turned it back on, the resolution went to a different one. I went to personalize and display settings, raised the bar looking for 1440x900 and didn't find it. It was the highest setting at one point cause it was my native resolution. Now it's gone.
I tried "back-up and restore center" from Start>All programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore
Restored the system. Nothing changed and I went to furthest restore point I possibly could.
Then, I tried to update my drivers through ATI.(some people have Nvidia or something...)
That didn't work out. They said to first download it, uninstall the current driver then install the new one, then reboot.
All it did was add a resolution but didn't add the one I needed.
Then I read somewhere to just unplug my monitor for ten seconds, plug it back in and it in and what do you know. It fixed it.
Then, since I restarted from the restart point, I had to re install the Windows Updates and guess what happened the resolution sucked again.
Now I'm too lazy to restart my computer and unplug it and all that good stuff.
So give all that a try. good luck.

What I meant on that last part about "restarted from the restart point..." was "Restore point". Also, I was working with a laptop today and i have one of those '2 port KVM switches' and decided to use my 17" Gateway monitor as an extend... Read more

However, whenever I switch off and restart the computer again it reverts back to the lower screen resolution and I have to reset it again. How can I rectify this so that the screen resolutions settings are saved?

A:Screen Resolution problem

You likely have a failure of your video graphics driver, or your screen hardware is failing.
First, download a new driver. Once you have it handy and can find it again, remove or disable the old driver. Next, install the newly downloaded driver.
You could also have other hardware errors such as memory or hard drive not properly working.

I have windows vista on my desktop. No graphics cards or anything fancy, just a 2.4 pentium with 4 gigs of ram. I run it on a 32" LG screen/monitor

OK heres the problem. Everything was working great before, But I went to the control panel/display settings. I changed the screen resolution from the 1200 x whatever it was and put it at the top one, which was something like 2100 x something else. Upon hitting thoses setteing the monitor went blank and said something like, not recognized, or unable to do...something like that. Now, I cant do ANYTHING at all, the screen is just black when I turn it back on and with the same error message. This error message is not generated by my comupter, but by the tv itself. like i said, I cant see anything to help fix it.

I ran insafe mode, and while in safe mode, i can see fine. its all in 800x600 and everythings big, but at least i can see. When i change the resolution in safe mode and apply it, it doesnt stick and do the same thing when im not in safe mode..

Is there anything I can do to reset the screen resolution when not in safe mode so that my computer is functional??? Is there a reset or something. god this really frustrates me that a simple click out of curiousity can cause such a great error.

Any help is appreciated. I dont have a computer, im at a friends house but I will check tomorrow for answers. I sincerly appreciate your time.

A:Please help me with my screen resolution problem

Try these in this order.

do you have a smaller monitor that you can try?
It may revert if you try a different one.
Not likely but worth a try.

While in safe mode try a much lower resolution and see if it sticks.
Also boot back into safe mode on the next boot to see if it will stick as it may need that to assure itself that those are the correct settings.
Not likely either.

I assume device manager shows nothing.
So at boot press F8 and boot with vga and try the settings and see if they stick.
Maybe

Then try to boot in safe mode and in device manager try to disable the driver. It should then reboot in 800X600. Try to renable and reset to the correct settings and reboot.

Another option if you had updated your video drivers would be to in device manager revert to an older driver.

If all else fails delete the driver. Make sure that you have it on a cd or something.Let windows boot and put in the new one.

I have a 9800gx2 and a syncmaster 2443bw connected via dvi.
I am using vista 64.
Here's the problem: Although my card supports 2xxx x 1xxx resolutions and my monitor supports 1920x1200 optimal; I can only reach 1920x1080 at maximum resolution.
All my drivers are up to date.
What can I do to solve this problem? Can I do anything? What is wrong?

Thanks for your help

Hi

I have just had to do a clean install of Windows 7 after a disastrous couple of weeks using Windows 8.

My problem now is that I have used the recommended screen resolution, but no matter what I do, square images just are not square, they are elongated.

Can anyone help me get my square images back?

Many thanks.

Try and find the Video card drivers you used before for windows 7, or download the newest ones of what ever website you will need the graphics card drivers so if you are with AMD or Nvidia.

My monitor supports 2560 X 1080 and that's what I have most of the time.

Lately, if monitor goes to standby, upon coming out of it, the resolution will change to 420 X 240 ( or similar), and I have to close all browsers and go to desktop >Screen Res and change it back.

I went to Dev Mgr and clicked update driver, but said I had the latest one, which turned out to be incorrect after I went to the Intel site and they said I needed a new driver.

I installed it, but still have the same problem - intermittently.

Hi allYesterday I fitted a (used) graphics card in place of the onboard version I used to have. The old one is listed up as an hp [email protected] Intel® 82865G Graphics Controller. The new(?) one (that I took out of a computer I was given) is an NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 4000 (Microsoft Corporation). It was running fine on the other computer and, funnily enough, it was set at 1024x768. But when I try to set it to 1024x768 resolution on my current computer the screen goes black and then there are flashes of interference lines and then, after about 5 seconds, the screen comes back to normal showing the resolution it was set at before I changed it.Does anyone have any idea on what may be causing this and can it be fixed? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

This should be the proper drivers/download for that card;

I have Windows 7 Ultimate RC 32 bit that I'm using in dual-boot mode with Windows XP Professional SP2. I am using an old ViewSonic monitor and I don't have the drivers. Windows XP is apparently using a generic driver which lets me set any screen resolution I like and I usually use 1024x768. Windows 7 has a generic driver which will only allow 800x600. Does anyone know if the Windows XP video driver will work in Windows 7 and, if so, the best way to copy and install it?

A:Problem with screen resolution

Its not the monitor - You need to install Windows 7 Drivers for your Graphics Hardware.

A monitor by default uses a Generic PNP Monitor or Generic Non PNP Monitor Driver, either one should not affect what resolution you can run it at. What graphics adaptor do you have? I'd be happy to help you find drivers for it..

Hello all,

I have a bit of a screen resolution problem. It just seems to be a bit sretched, and I only have two options to switch my resoltion to, neither of them helping.

My graphis card is a ATI Xpress 1150 256MB HyperMemory (Integrated graphics). I'm not sure how to fix it, I've tried seeing about updating the drive, but that doesn't seem to work.

Thanks ahead of time

A:bit of a screen resolution problem

Buy a new card, that's about all you can do (in my knowledge) to gain more resolution options. Your card, being integrated, isn't the best and doesn't have that much option.

Beyond that, what's the native resolution of your monitor? And what size is it? Is it a laptop?

My monitors native resolution should be 1680 x 1050 as its a 22 inch wide screen, and it was running fine in that setting when I shut down my PC before I went to bed last night. Now I wake up turn it on and the resolution has changed to 1280 x 720 for no discernible reason, and cannot be changed to go higher.

So far I have tried to change it back via the control panel and Nvidia control panel to no avail, I tried using custom resolution in Nvidia control panel also the test fails. I have updated display drivers and updated windows 7 to try to fix the problem neither has worked.

Does anyone know how to rectify this very annoying and unnecessary problem?

Check the cables to be sure they are not loose. Is the monitor correctly I identified on the windows screen resolution page?
