Preferred Solution: Windows Media Player doesn't detect......

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Any body have any clues ?? I've tried several things suggested by the Microsoft Win XP forum but no luck. Apple iTunes detects the drive but Windows does not. Pretty sad the competition works better than the manufacturer.

When I find a media file (video file, for example) and double click it, the Media Player doesn't start at all...

I tried to re-associate the Windows Media Player to it's default media extensions through "Default Programs" , and it doesn't work...

All media files play normally on other players. I have to state that sometimes I get the message: "The file.... The parameter is incorrect".

Any help would be greatly appreciated. God bless guys! Take care!

I'm using WMP 11 on my Windows XP SP3 OS.

A few weeks ago I started getting the dreaded "Windows Media Player has encountered a problem and need to close." message (with the send and don't send error report options) whenever any kind of USB device is plugged into my computer and turned on. This includes flash drives, ex. hard drives and my mp3 player.

When this message comes up, WMP continues to function normally until I close the error message box.

Until now, I usually just move the error message out of the way and ignore it. But now I believe that whatever is causing this is also affecting WMP syncing with my mp3 player. I can access what is already on the player, but if I try to add new songs, it just tries to sync with it without ever achieving to.

After this, WMP says that the device connected is operating slowly or not responding.

Any idea what is wrong and what I could do to resolve it?

I downloaded WMP10 and had periodic problems when watching streaming video. At some point, WMP10 just wouldn't close. So when I ended one video segment and tried to click on another, WMP10 wouldn't open because it had never closed from the prior use. The only way to resolve the problem is to reboot. This occurs on a completely random basis. I uninstalled 10 and reinstalled 9 which worked well until Microsoft message said "there's an update to 9 available and do you want it?" Foolishly I said "yes".

Well now I'm back to the same old problem. Re-booting (or having to click the "Run With Real Player" option) is a nuisance. I'm not looking for a solution to the problem, but HEY if anyone has one, great. What I'd really just settle for is advice on how can I close WMP10 manually so that I can avoid all the re-booting stuff. It happens with enough frequency to make it really annoying.

From all my attempts to download, install, uninstall, etc WMP 9 and 10, I've got so many files in the Media Player folder I really don't even know which one to attack first...if any. Could this be (part of) the problem? I actually have the following in the folder:
mpsetupxp.exe
mp10setup.exe
mpplayer2.exe
setup_wm.exe
wmplayer.exe

I'm running Dell Dimension 8300, Windows XP (Home) SP2, 512Ram 74GB

Thanks a lot.

I have an eMachines tower legally running Win XP Home SP3. Until a month or two ago, Windows Media Player ran just fine. Then WMP announced that an upgrade was available, and I decided to take it. There was something about initializing the upgrade that I didn't like, so I uninstalled it and reinstalled WMP from my original XP disk. The reinstallation went without a hiccup, but WMP refuses to work. With MP3s associated with WMP, if I double-click an MP3, WMP appears to want to run--that is, it initializes something--but nothing else happens. WMP is not listed with my Currently Installed Programs.

I also have the Quick Time Player, and I changed the file association to run MP3s with Quick Time, which works okay. Incidentally (or not?), MP3 files still display with WMP icons, even though MP3s are associated with and automatically play with Quick Time.

I'd really like to get WMP back. Can somebody help me make it happen?

does anybody know how to solve the problem??

A:windows media player doesn't work

mmm....
Stop using crappy Microsoft software and download something decent and free like winamp at uh... winamp.com

If that doesn't work you still haven't got the right codec (codecs are shared between any media players, it could be MP10 is buggy, and doesn't pick it up)

If your media has an avi extension it might most probably be a divx compression which you get at uh.... divx.com

If all of the above doesn't work you should give me some more info....
1) What are the extensions of the media that doesn't play?
2) Is it all media that's not playing or only certain media files?
3) Does your sound work in general?

Hi,

One day all of the sudden I can't load Windows Media Player. I on the Task Manager to see what happened. Whenever I execute Windows Media Player 11, wmplayer.exe loads but goes off in a second. It's gone! What's happening?

Well, since no one replyed, I uninstalled Windows Media Player to revert to the old one. I went back to Windows Media Player 9 series. When I execute it, (finally) an error message appeared. Well, the issue was an old issue. I googled the error message and solved the problem. Later I installed Windows Media Player 11 again and it was fine.

Windows Media Player "An internal application error has occurred"

The Problem:-When you try to start Microsoft Windows Media Player, you may receive an "An internal application error has occurred" (or a similar) error message.

Cause:-This issue may occur if one or more of the Jscript registry key settings are incorrect. This behavior may also occur if the Jscript.dll file is missing or damaged.

Resolution:-

1.Click Start, and then click Run.

2.In the Open box, type regsvr32 jscript.dll, and then click OK.

3.Click OK.

4.Click Start, and then click Run.

5.In the Open box, type regsvr32 vbscript.dll, and then click OK.

6.Click OK.

If either of the files do not register as expected, or if you receive an error message, the system file may be missing or damaged. To extract the missing file in Microsoft Windows XP, follow these steps:

1.Click Start, and then click Run.

2.In the Open box, type msconfig, and then click OK.

3.Click Expand File.

4.In the File to restore box, type the name of the file that you want to restore.

i have windows vista home premium with windows media player. i bought my first ever download. it went into my music folder, but windows media player doesn't see it, says it can't find it. i decided (I can't recall how i decided) that the problem was most likely because the download had a .htm file format. (It seems odd that music would be in .htm format, and that's one of my questions). anyhow, i downloaded a free translator to attempt to put the file into some form the player might recognize, but i could never figure out how to get the file into the translator, i couldn't figure out how to run the translator. finally, i got scared of goofing up my puter, and deleted the translator. I am totally lost! I can't find info anywhere on what file formats media player recognizes. I'm really excited to start learning this stuff---i havn't listened to my favorite music in about 20 years, and i really wanna do it. I don't know quite where to start and i feel discouraged.

A:windows media player doesn't see my download

.htm isn't a music file, so you're right about that.

It sounds as though you may have saved the LINK to the download instead of the song itself.

Where did you download this song from?

Whenever I insert CD's or DVD's into either of my optical drives, Windows Media Player as well as My Computer recognize that media had been added. The problem is, when I eject the media (whether it's pushing the eject button on the drive or right clicking as selecting eject) My computer as well as WMP fail to recognize that the media has been removed. If I insert a new cd or dvd, both my computer as well as WMP see it as the original piece of media. The other strange thing is iTunes is able to accurately determine if there is media in a drive or not.

Any idea's as to what is going on with my drives? I'm pretty sure it's just a software issue with Vista or WMP, since iTunes doesn't seem to be affected. I have no idea on how to resolve this. Thanks in advance for any help

What codecs are missing? What types of files are not playing? How are you installing them and are they getting registered with the system?

Be careful about installing codecs---if a bad one is assigned a higher prioroty than a good one, you may not be able to play some files.

You can determine what codecs are needed for a particular file with VideoInspector or GSpot.

You can install all the codecs for WMP, including all the ones it would install from the net, here:

Hi everyone,

I seem to have a problem with Windows Media Player: whenever I want to play a WMV video, it just says that WMP "encountered a problem while playing the file".

System specifications: Windows XP Professional x64, Version 2003, SP2 built-in, Windows Media Player 11 built-in

Most resources I find on the internet for this are for Windows Vista or Windows 7, however I have found and unsuccessfully tried several possible solutions. I now hit a dead end and still can't play the videos.

I have:
- re-installed WMP11 from the Microsoft website,
- installed a codec pack,
- tried several registry fixes I found (I reverted them when they didn't work).

I'm told installing another version of WMP could work, but my system doesn't allow me to remove WMP (maybe because it was built-in on the installation CD I got with the laptop). And without that I can't install WMP9, because it says that a newer version is already installed. I found some Safe-mode removal method on the Web, but it didn't work for me (I did boot into Safe-mode, but the program that was supposed to be able to uninstall WMP and that this solution said I would have in some system folder wasn't there).

Any ideas will be appreciated. Please ask if additional info is needed.

Regards

Hi all,

So I downloaded Windows 10(using an MSDN license if that makes a difference) when it came out and have noticed that a couple of programs refuse to load up.

For example, when I try to open Premiere Pro, it pops with a message saying, "Adobe Premiere can not run on this computer because WMVCORE.DLL is missing. Please install Windows Media Player and start again."
When I tried to open the Black Ops 3 Beta, it told me that "mfplat.dll" was missing. I looked up the solution and the website said to download the media centre pack/media feature pack from Microsoft's website. But I can't since I have Windows 10. I hope someone can help.

Thanks in advance
Ethan

A:Programs won't run because Windows 10 doesn't include Media Player

Which edition of Windows 10?
As far as I am aware, media player, (which automatically includes WMVCORE.DLL and its other drivers) is included in Windows 10.
I am running an MSDN and an upgrade of Windows 8.1. It is present in both.
Perhaps if you select it (it is in the "Windows Accessories" folder in the start menu) and set it up, it will then be found by third party programs.
But, fwiw, your thread title is a little contradictory from your post. It seems that it is the Medial player, and not the Media centre, which is causing the problem.

I'm running Windows XP. In Windows Media Player I used to be able to listen to any of the free radio stations that are listed under the Radio tab. Now when I click on them a dialog box with a globe progress bar flash on the screen but the station never plays.

The stations that are mark "try free today" still play. Are all the stations only for pay now?

I tried un-installing and reinstalling media player, both from the Windows disk and downloading from Microsoft but to no avail.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Les

A:Internet radio doesn't work in Windows Media Player 10

From what i have heard, the media player no longer supports radio listening. You can always try.. but i was told that it doesn't now. You may want to just use an actual radio/cds. Sorry that wasn't that much help... I will try it on my computer and tell you how it goes, shortly.

PS
It will not even let me connect, sorry. I wish ya luck though lol

Hi,

I'm using Windows Media Player 12 on Windows 7 64-bit. In the "Online Stores" screen I don't see any stores, only the leading paragraph about what stores are. When the screen first opens "Categories" briefly appears then disappears. I'm in the UK.

Any help appreciated, the replies from the MS forums were useless.

Cheers.

I just had to fix mine.
I went to see the eagle chicks at: http://www.infotecbusinesssystems.com/wildlife/
No picture.
Put cursor on the black space that should be a streaming video.
Right click, Click 'options' and proceed to configure the player so it works.

Every time I turn off windows media player and open it back up the music disappeared. It doesn't auto scan the folder. I have to take out a file and put it back in to get it to re-add it, then it adds everything else again. This is really
annoying.

On my WMP, when I right-click on a song and then click on find album info, it says "You must be connected to the Internet to update information about the Audio CD you have selected" even though I am connected. I don't understand why it is saying this. Is this common? Can anyone help me fix this problem?

A:Find Album Info doesn't work on Windows Media Player

Hello Green Ranger,
Have you checked your firewall settings ?.
Take a look and see if you can add WMP to the exceptions list.
Also , in WMP options, check that the option to update from the web is enabled.
Hope this helps, post your results, thanks.
