T430 charging issue with thresholds active

Q: T430 charging issue with thresholds active

Hello, I've been using my T430 with a 94Wh battery for the past 8 months now and I've always used it with 40-75 charging thresholds. Now, as far as I recall, the behaviour(at least in linux), was that the laptop would charge to upper threshold, stop charging until the battery level reaches the lower threshold due to usage and then start charging again, all the while battery% updating itself. Now, the last couple of days, I realized that my battery percentage is only updated depending on some conditions. Let me explain.. Assume that my thresholds are 40-75; If I plug in at a battery% below 40%, the battery indicator updates itself correctly, I see it charge all the way to upper threshold. HWMonitor also shows real time increase in current capacity. If I plug in at a battery% between 40% and 75%, the battery percentage is stuck at whatever number I plugged in at, and just says "plugged in, not charging". I also check HWMonitor and see that the current capacity is stuck at whatever number I plugged in at. If I plug in at a battery% above 75%, it discharges correctly, updating the battery indicator in real time, also shown in HWMonitor again. Now, since the battery% is usually between the thresholds, this is concerning to me since a constant battery% isn't realistic. Also, when I take the laptop off AC power when the battery percentage is stuck, it just starts discharging starting from that value it was stuck at. I hope my post made sense, I still haven't been able to try all scenarios but I'm happy to provide any info it if will help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I got my L380 2 weeks ago and updated BIOS, all drivers and the Windows 10 from 1709 to 1803 at the first day. After a few days, I recognized that, no matter the system start up or not, if I unplugged the Type-C charger and plugge it back, the battery charging thresholds setting would not function normally. Even though the battery message in both Windows 10 and Lenovo vantage shows "plugged in not charging", the system still slowly charge the battery till 100%. The only way to solve the problem is to open Lenovo vantage and restart the battery charging thresholds. Did anyone have this issue, too? Lenovo vantage version is 4.13.82.0BIOS version is R0RET30W 1.13all drivers are up-to-date

Hi all. I would like to ask you about the battery discharging process while having thresholds applied. I have them set to 50/90 with the 9-cell battery. On Ubuntu, once the upper threshold has been reached the battery stays at that threshold forever, provided AC is plugged in. The other scenario is that if the charge is within the range specified by these thresholds (so [50,90]) and I plug it in, it does not charge it (which is good) but it does not discharge it either (is that good too?). Now, my question is - should it be working like that or should it stop charging the battery and let it reach the lower threshold, after which it would charge it up to the upper threshold, which would essentially be a kind of hysteresis loop? Which would be better for extending the battery's lifespan? Thanks,Przemek

I just received my newly refurbushed T430 and I'm anxious to get started with it.  It came from the Amazon supplier with Win10Pro preinstalled, and I think the install and updates went fairly smooth.  On startup however, the desktop display would cycle to black every 2 seconds making it impossible to use.  I saw a fix online to disable two applications, both involving errors and reporting.  I am now left with the below error message that pops open every two seconds and I am unable to open the Control Panel.  I don't want to send this laptop back because it's in great physical shape.  Can someone please talk me through a fix?  TIA

Hi, I work in a school where we quite a few Edge laptops, I recently bought a T430 as a replacement for a faulty edge laptop but the battery doesnt seem to be charging or registering. I've done the old trick of removing the drivers from Windows which worked for the Edge laptops when they had a similar issue. If I use the laptop on battery it works, if I plug the power in then it runs on the power but doesnt charge the battery. Strangley it did charge at some point but now the battery is dead... if I run it on the power and plug the battery in then it dies. The battery is 100% genuine (a 70+) one. I cant mix the batteries as the others are 25+ ones. I was hoping they might charge but they dont, I dont have any means of charging the 70+ battery. I've updated the bios, I did do a battery firmware test before the battery discharged and all the drivers are on.. I've tried it on Windows 7, 8 and now 10. Nothing works. Annoyingly the battery doens even charge when the laptop is off. i dont want to spend 60 on a new battery if the laptop is a dud. Any advice please?

Hello,

My battery is not charging, i have a acer aspire 5740 laptop and im running windows 7 64bit and the problem seemed to start happening soon after i replaced my keyboard. Im not sure if it was exactly after i replaced my keyboard, because i wasent paying attention, but the battery seems to charge some when im away from the computer. When i unplug the power adapter and plug it back in the battery icon will move like its charging for about 30 seconds then stop. If i mouse over the battery icon it says batter 33% and charging, but its not really charging as far as i can tell. When i left my compter for a few hours it charged up to 96 percent. I talked to the people at acer, via chat support, and they said that if i updated my bios it would fix it. but it didnt, now there saying i need a new battery, but i have a feeling it might be something else since it just started when i replaced my keyboard. Any help would be appreciated. If you need more information just ask, i will be happy to provide it.

Hello, I was recently having issues with my Yoga 13 where I kept getting a Driver Power State Failure. I did some research and tried fixing it but I never had any luck. One day I shut my laptop off by holding the button down since I couldn't shut it down any other way, and now it won't turn back on. When I plug the charger in it shows that the battery has power. Anyone else ever have this issue? Thanks.

Hi, Recently bought a T430 (Without Optimus). All's good except the Laptop Temp. The left Palm rest seems to get un usually warm, no matter what OS I am on. Its a dual boot by the way, Win 7 + Ubuntu 12.04.2. With Ubuntu or CentOS or Scientific Linux, the laptop gets unusually warm...The temp monitoring utility (lm_sensors) says that its at about 45 C. I get the same temp reading on Win 7 too, but somehow, the laptop just feels more warm with Linux than Win 7.As of right now, I am on Win 7 (for past 4-5) hours.....did some browsing, MS Sec Essentials did a full disk scan, I saw some youtube vids and was toying with some Perl Scripts, and the temp is at 45C, and the left palm rest is quite warm. Its warm enough that I have to stop typing every few minutes  Has anyone else noticed this issue? Is there a work around to this issue? Is there something I should worry about ? Please let me know. I installed the new updates a month ago. A:Thinkpad T430 gets significantly warm on Win 7 as well as Linux. How about a fellow T430 user ?

In my experience, Linux isn't as good with power management as Windows. 45 degrees sounds about right for a current-gen Intel processor due to Turbo Boost causing temperature spikes as you use your system normally. As for the warm left palmrest, the hard drive sits under there, so maybe the drive just tends to produce more heat. Assuming you have a conventional hard drive, give it a defrag to reduce operating stress (and hence power consumption and heat output).

A:ThinkPad (T430) battery compatibility issue

HelloThe batteries for T410/420 are not compatible with T430, even Lenovo genuine ones. Because of T430 features hardware authentification of the battery installed. The batteries for old laptops like T410/420 don't have such features (authentification chips inside). This chip missing causes the battery being installed in the T430 can't be charged. So, you have to purchase Lenovo original battery for T430.

Hi, When using the touchpad on my T430, my click buttons rarely work as intended. Sometimes, they begin to work after the laptop goes to sleep, or occasionally an entire boot is okay. However, this is rare. When it isn't working, what happens is that the right click doesn't function at all, and the left click seems to be more of a left click + context menu key rather than a pure left click. I've tried reinstalling the Ultranav drivers, restoring their settings to the default (I can confirm that the left click is set up to function as a left click, and right as a right click - if I set up the right click to function as a left click, both do the odd context menu behavior), and even doing a complete BIOS update, to no avail. I've yet to try this in another OS, so I haven't yet isolated this to a hardware or software issue. What could be my issue? I am not under warranty and would prefer to not send in my laptop for repair. EDIT: I was able to fix the weird context menu behavior by disabling the Menu Key in SharpKeys (mapping key 117 (0x0075) to do nothing (0x0000)). However, my right click still does nothing. I can bind it using the Ultranav settings to be a left click, and in this mode, it left clicks. Anything bound to be a right click literaly does nothing. Any ideas? EDIT2: I ran sfc /scannow on an elevated command prompt and it fixed a lot of errors. It drastically sped up my computer; what's odd is that I've hardly installed anything on here, ... Read more

My laptop is T430 of Lenovo. I have two drives installed on my computer, one is SSD (128 G, PLEXTOR), another is HDD (500 G, Samsung). Now I have encountered a serious issue that I could not find the HDD in my Windows 10. Almost two weeks ago, I found my laptop crash frequently. I think there is an extreme incompatibility between the Windows 10 and SSD. I even reinstalled my OS for several times. But it still crashed. Even I opened a simple word file, it does not respond. Two days ago, the issue got even more serious. When I boot my system, I found a problem with "2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)". It suggests me to press the "ESC" button to enter into the OS. However, I could not find my HDD on my computer anymore. I have some paramount important data and files in this drive.  Could some friends provide some meaningful suggestions of recovering data and files for me, please?  I'm very anxious. Thank you very much!

Hello I bought new battery for my laptop 4530s. In HP support assistant I ran HP battery check test and the results showed my battery was not discharging even when it is fully discharged to 0 percent and I was running my laptop with AC adapter. Plus it didn't show that it was charging either. The AC adapter is not charging the battery and the laptop works fine when only connected with AC adapter. I tried hard resetting and under the device manager Microsoft ACPI reinstall method but it didn't work and still I am unable to charge the battery. I read on some forums and also tried to update my BIOS, but surprisingly during the BIOS update through USB and only AC adapter plugged in, on the BIOS update page it was written to connect external power eventhough only source that was connected was AC adapter. The problem is with my AC adapter or BIOS or charging circuitory please guide? An early response in this regard will be highly treasured.

I think you need root OS admin for that raw test to run from within windows.
I could be mistaken.
I don't think this is an indication that your disk is bad but rather a failure of the test to run properly.

I have been setting up my new L560 laptop.  The first thing I did was go into the battery settings of the Power Manager and change the charge thresholds to "Start when below: 35%" and "Stop charging at: 80%".  These settings are captured and properly reported in the software.  The hover text says "Charging will start when below 35% and stop at 55%".  That seems to be all it does.  The battery goes into charging state even when still at 90% charge, and it charges all the way up to 100%.  This is a new battery and has only 10 +/- cycles. The battery firmware is 0001-006d-0100-01a6...  I am using Lenovo/ThinkVantage Power Manager 6.68.10,  and have the Power Manager Driver v 1.67.12.16 installed.  I know this was a common problem with Thinkpad's running Windows 10, but this machine is using a facotry install image of Windows 7 running in BIOS (not UEFI) mode.  This is old hat, something that has worked for years in the Power Manager Settings.  Need someone to explain to me how to fix this!?  ... and hopefully explain what is causing the problem!   Thanks.

Hello,

I am a new user to access and am having trouble sorting my aged debt analysis, I'll explain what I am trying to achieve.

I have a query organized like this

A/C No, Name, Debt >360, 360,180,90,60,30

I can sort descending so the oldest debt (>360) is listed first and stacked in order of value, however, when this is done I get a load of low value accounts, after the low value accounts are listed the sort function then looks at the 360 column, then 180 and so on.

This is fine however I am only interested in higher value accounts, if need to be able make Db do this;

List all Accounts with Debt>360 if over ?100, if Debt>360's value is less then I want to then list Debt 360 and so on...

The intension is to generate a list that details all accounts by oldest debt, highest value, whilst excluding the oldest low value accounts (Under?100)

Has anybody got any suggestions???

Thanks,

Mat

A:Charging Issue

Is the issue that the original adapter isn't recognized (enter setup -- F2 at powerup) -- if the adapter shows unknown, the battery will not charge.
If that is happening, try a new Dell adapter (third party adapters will run the system but not charge the battery).  If that doesn't solve the issue, replace the DC jack:
www.parts-people.com/index.php
... and if that doesn't get the adapter recognized, the issue is with the charge circuit on the mainboard.
