(Solved) Browser won't load page...connection working...(?)

Q: (Solved) Browser won't load page...connection working...(?)

Friends computer...Win 2000, cable connection...when he attempts to launch IE browser...gets a cannot find server message (the page cannot be displayed). He can launch his email and get his email...but internet explorer will not work. He can even get to Windows Update site (without using the browser) He has tried uninstall/reinstall of IE 6.0...and tried IE repair tool...no help. He said the internet options settings for his ISP is set to auto.

Preferred Solution: (Solved) Browser won't load page...connection working...(?)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My internet has begun to slow down lately. Page loads and transitions have been taking 10-15 seconds at times when they are usually "instant". I can't figure out why; I haven't really been doing much lately except browsing yahoo and youtube and normal stuff. I haven't installed any big programs or anything that would slow my entire computer down. I've also noticed increased lag in Counter-Strike. My brother has had more unsupervised time lately, when I'm not home, so I don't know where he goes or what he does. Although, I've run virus scans and stuff and they've been relatively clean, but for all I know it could be something more complicated than a little bit of malware. I'm confused as to what might be the problem. Any help would be great. If you need info on my computer or network let me know.

A:Solved: Slow connection/page load problems

Well, I'd certainly be doing some complete virus/malware scans. Try an on-line virus scanner like Trend Housecall and also maybe Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.

Hey guys and gals.

I have a customer's computer here thats driving me nuts. I've narrowed it down to a software/OS problem but I can't pinpoint it.

Running WinXP Home, Internet connection wasn't working at all with the onboard ethernet, so I threw a new PCI NIC card in. Operates just fine after boot, speeds are good, everything is peachy, until about 10-15 minutes after, not IE nor Firefox will load any web pages. At this point, the IP is still good, I can ping and tracert to any website of my choice with no problems, but the browsers both refuse to load anything.

As a note, it's not the new NIC card, I used two different (brand new) ones. It's also not the ISP's box or the cables, symptoms are the same at two different locations including my office and the customer's home.

Checked the entire thing extensively for viruses/spyware, it's clean as can be, tried a winsock fix, played with the network and NIC card settings for a good hour. I just can't figure this one out, and I really don't want to admit defeat and reinstall the OS.

Any ideas?

Hi, I've ran into some problems after installing my friend's pirated Adobe software on my new desktop, resulting in my internet browser (Firefox & Internet Explorer) to work but NEVER load ANY site.

Specifically, the browsers will work again when I restart my desktop. However, as time progresses, the number of sites these browsers can access decreases significantly. For example, though in first 10 min it will load home page and say newgrounds.com, after 10 min, only loads home page, another 5 min, loads nothing. The browsers display the fact that they're trying to connect to the website, forever. I also noticed that if the certain applications such as windows media, utorrent and other adobe softwares are turned on. It takes less time for the browsers to stop working. Most often, this is an immediate effect. If you're wonder how I'm able to post this message, it's with the help of my laptop, currently free of infections. I'm positive the internet connection is working since my laptop uses the same connection. The network is set by one modem connected to one router connected to one switch which then connects to my laptop and desktop. While my laptop loads fine, my desktop doesn't.

Less often than the browser occurance are other problems such as rundll stopped working, explorer.exe not working, mouse buttons misbehaving, keyboards typing funny things.

It doesn't make sense to me that just unplugging and re-plugging the cable would cause a problem.

Hi all

I have a Dell laptop D610 which has been working all the time on my LAN(wired).
Recently it just starting to give some problem.
(Im using IE6 and FF to browse internet)
I used to access my LAN thru a ADSL ethernet router and then connect to the WAN.
My LAN activity is slowing rather a slow activity on my laptop but the WAN activity seems OK. See attached pic:
I have try to do a ipconfig /all and i can see all the neccessary IPs there.
I can ping yahoo, gateway and even the ip address of my own laptop.
(see attached on the ipconfig command)
However when i want to browse thru IE or FF, it seems to be taking it forever to load and the page will not turn up in the end.
I have tried some of this

(1) Reset TCP/IP stack & Reset WINSOCK entries
(2) Use WinsockxpFix to fix WINSOCK entries
(3) Use Malwarebytes to scan for any malwares
(5) Turn off windows firewall

None of these help.
But one thing for sure, using the same connection, i can access internet on my desktop.
One thing i notice is that my LAN connection on desktop is much more better.
So definitely its nothing to do with my service provider & ADSL router.
Can anyone help to offer some valuable ideas?
And i would be deeply appreciate.
I really dont wish to go thru the pain of system restoration

i own a website, i made no changes to my browser, and yet suddenly, my browser (all versions of IE since i tried uninstalling 6.1) refuse to load any pages on my domain. everyone of them gets hung up at 'web site found - waiting for reply'.
i've been through the tools in my browser, and reset everything to absolute lowest settings. there are no restricted sites and no restricted settings (and never were). i uninstalled ver 6.1 and went to an older version, and nothing i try gets the pages loaded. not a single page on my home domain will load, although all other websites load as normal.
i installed netscape just to check, and it loads just fine on it, but won't load with IE.
i've ran norton corporate, browser hijacker, and lavasoft ad-aware 6 and they all say i'm clean.

what on earth is stopping my IE browser from loading the pages on my home domain? i'm at the end of my rope and any help greatly appreciated! i can't do any of the administration on my site because i can't load a single page.

A:HELP Please - Browser shuts down when I try to load my banks web page... :(

hello & welcome to TSF ,

you need to post this in the (HiJack Log Help) forum of this site

if you truely do think it is because of an infection you need to follow this link & work thru the steps

but if you do not think it is an infection do this

do you have a Windows Xp cd, not the restore cd's that come with some systems, the cd will have the Windows logo & 3D hollowgram/image on it

if you do not maybe you can barrow one from a friend/family member/co-worker as long as it is the same version that is on your system

if you have (Windows XP Home Ed. sp2 ) then the cd will have to be that / if you have a cd with (Windows XP Home Ed. )you will have to slipstream (SP2 ) onto a disk that you create

this also applies to (Windows XP Professsional )

now if you do have the Windows XP cd with sp2 please follow these steps

performing a (sfc) system file checker

It is a scan that checks the core files & dlls of the (os) operating system and replaces them if they are corrupt or missing with the correct original version

#1 then select (run) , then press enter
a window will open
#2 type in ( cmd ) then press enter
another window will open
#3 type in ( sfc )then press enter
another window will open
#4 type in (sfc /purgecache) then enter / your pc ... Read more

I am using xp prof. and IE 6. When I open my home page, Yahoo, sometimes I just get a blank page. IF it loads, there is about a 2 minute wait. When that happens, if I go to another page, it will or will not load. If not, it shows the "cannot find page" site. My dsl router connections shows on, but not many or no packets. If I reboot or renew the connection, it might help for once or twice but then this happens again.

Does anyone know why this is happening? Thanks!

Hello everybody.

I can't load any microsoft account login page in any browser on my laptop (running windows 8.1). Whether it is outlook, one drive, microsoft support forums, etc. Each time I try to load the login page I get the following errors:

In firefox: The connection was reset
In IE: This page cannot be displayed
In chrome: This webpage is not available

It was working up until yesterday, then all of sudden in the middle of the afternoon I couldn't access any microsoft login page.

As far as I can tell, these are the only pages that can't load. MSN works fine, any microsoft site works fine (outside of the login part of course). All other sites I have tried work just fine.

However, I can access my email in the Mail app that comes standard in windows 8.1 as well as on my android phone. Furthermore, I don't think that it is an ISP problem as I can easily access those pages on an old desktop computer I have and on my phone. It seems to be an issue with my laptop specifically.

I have tried restarting the computer (multiple times) and clearing the cache and cookies (multiple times).

If I can't fix this, I'm probably going to reinstall windows, but I really would like to save myself all the trouble that comes with that, especially since it's just one page that I can't get to load.

I really need help figuring this out. Any help and input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi All,

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad Laptop, using it with Win7.

Recently, I experience an internet connection failure. It first connects to my home internet network, loads webpages perfectly. After a while, although it seems still connected it just cannot load the pages. If I wait like 5-10min, it works perfectly again. But after some time it fails and so on...

I suspect the problem was on my internet provider but I used my laptop in a friend's home and it happens there too.

This cycle repeats itself more frequently if there is another laptop in the apartment that connect to the same network I am connected.

Any idea how I can solve this problem? Please help.

Sometimes if they are on the same channel as your wireless router functions on, the signals with cross and thus you'll have packet loss.

Download and run wipe  and system ninja,
Go ahead and install ccleaner Now that you have the program installed go ahead and run the cleaner function.
Now that you have cleaned out some temp files, lets go ahead and disable all of the items starting up with your machine except your antivirus. To do this you will need to click on tools then start up select each item then disable.
Now that you have disabled those un-needed start ups lets go into the settings, we will have Ccleaner run when your machine boots, so that you will never have to worry about cleaning temp files again. To do this:
Hit options.
Place a tick to run Ccleaner when the computer starts.

Now go to the advanced tab, and select close program after cleaning, now run the cleaner again this will close Ccleaner.
Reboot your machine and then follow the  instructions below.

I have a very simple web page that automatically updates daily. However, very often when I view it I just get the version that is in my browser cache rather than the latest version from the web. I have to do a manual refresh from the browser to see the latest version. Not a problem for me, but other viewers of the page may not realize they aren't seeing the latest information.

Is there an HTML tag or some such that can be included in the page that will force a refresh and override any old version that the viewer may still have in their browser cache?

Hi, I'm an idiot...here is my deal...

Windows XP, comcast internet, Emachines desktop.

Various problems over the last 3 years, but in the last few months, the computer was slowing down and irritating me...I started uninstalling, deleting and turning off as much stuff as possible...eventually, I uninstalled Mcafee, but it wouldn't uninstall completely, and then it would not let me reinstall...at this point, I feel I was unprotected and got bugs..

Finally, today I was able to install AVG and eliminated Trojan and various other goodies from my computer, but I still have the same problem that developed before I killed Mcafee...

Certain pages will not load...they tend to be pages where you would download something...For instance, I can't even go to Microsoft Window Update website...the page won't load...Same deal with Mcafee...that is why I remained unprotected for a bit...

The problem occurs both with Firefox and IE...but sometimes one is better than the other...for instance, I can get into my comcast email with Firefox, but after signing in through IE, the email page never fully loads....

On the bright side, my computer is faster than ever...I got rid of a lot of junk, I can easily surf to 90% of the places I want to go...but I sure would like to fix the problem...

Remember anyone who has advice to give me...if you suggest that I go somewhere to download and run something....there is an 80% chance that I will get a page load error for that website...makes ... Read more

I thought I might add this thread for those who are facing the "Page load fail " with losing wireless connection.

The problem is with the QUTIL.DLL file that is most likely corrupted and damaged.
To be sure go to run > cmd > ipconfig /all > enter
an error msg will popup stating the dll file name "QUTIL.DLL"

if so just replace it with a fresh new QUTIL.DLL file.
you will regain the wirless network connection on your notification bar and will manage to connect and you will regain access to the Network and Sharing page

A:Network and Sharing page load fail + Wireless connection off

You are a lifesaver...however, I have one novice question. Exactly how do you replace the file with the new file? Step by step instructions would be great. Thanks so much for posting this and saving me days of research!

I am having trouble connecting to a particular wireless network with my pc laptop. I can see the router and have very good signal strength, and while the laptop says it is connected, when I try to load any webpages, they just continuously try to load, with nothing coming up but a blank white page. I've been in contact with my ISP, who has been absolutely no help at all. They are assuming it's the laptop; however, I am able to use this laptop elsewhere to connect to wireless networks all the time--this is the first trouble I've had.

Forgive me, I'm not extremely computer savvy, but here is what I've done so far: cmd prompt-ipconfig...says ipv6 is connected (isp talked me through that). Then, they walked me through ping, which did not work because no page came up again. They had me doublecheck all the options in internet options, which, according to them, was correct.

I'm at a loss here because it seems like nobody can help. The laptop is connected to the internet (lower right hand corner of screen says "currently connected to snouffer net, access: local and internet - and the earth symbol is in front of the icon, indicating I am in fact connected), but no web pages.

Please, if anyone can help?

I have ran cmd and tracert to google and ping Google. Both suggest that the connection works. I am desperate for help. Restarting doesn't work and all other devices on this network work just fine only one device has issues

This happened abruptly. One minute it was working fine then just nothing.

I've done the winstock reset which worked and I able to browse anything quickly as normal. But every time you had to reset it when you turned the PC on. Now resetting the winstock won't get me back online. Done DNS flush and the ip config as well. deleted bonjour and adobe flash player that wasn't working as well... Deleted winstock reg files and replaced them.

Any ideas thanks!

Dell Latitude laptop, Pentium M, XP Pro SP3, 2GB Ram, 60GB HDD (earliest date on folders is 2010.)

Hard drive passes CHDSK, and is not fragmented.

The Problem is that the comp indicates it is connected to WIFI, but IE8 cannot load browser pages.
(Same for FF browser.)

Comp connects via Automatic connection to a WPA2 router. This hasn't changed. Same router, same password, and Comcast modem for several years.

No error messages on comp.
No detected malware, viruses or strange processes in Task Manager.

I can bring up the Wireless networks and manually disconnect from the my router, and then manually reconnect to the same router and everything works okay.

AVG Free antivirus verified as not the problem.
Firewall settings verified as not the problem.
Router power is adequate.
I've un-ticked the box "Connect even if this Network is not broadcasting".
I've ran from cmd prompt: netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
I've ran from cmd prompt: netsh winsock reset
I've performed a reset of IE8's default settings
None of the above correction attempts appear to have eliminated the problem.

The comp will "sometimes" work correctly on reboot.
Leaving it set awhile after a restart doesn't always work.

Any additional help appreciated.

I need some help getting Word 2000 to load on my XP Pro computer. One day out of the blue, Word decided to stop working. The program loads, but a new blank page does not come up so you can start working on creating a new document. Task bar at top of screen shows Word loaded at Document 1 but the desktop and all its icons are what is showing on the screen.
I uninstalled Word re-installed the program again with a different COA and the result is the same. For some reason XP is just not letting Word bring up a blank page. Nor can you call up another Word document to make any changes.
Is there a way to determine why XP won't let Word open?
Please give me any help or suggestions I can try to solve this riddle?
Thank you so much.

A:Word 2000 suddenly stops working, won't load page

Hi there,
Please try using the "Detect and Repair" feature for Word 2000, if you have not done so already. These are instructions from Microsoft:

Repair Word (Office)
Word can detect and repair problems associated with Setup. This feature uses the Windows Installer to correct problems with missing files and to repair registry settings.
You can use the following methods to repair or reset Word files and values:
Method 1: Use the "Detect and Repair" feature
Method 2: Repair Word in Maintenance Mode Setup
Method 3: Reinstall Word (Office)

Method 1: Use the "Detect and Repair" or "Microsoft Office Diagnostics" feature
Note This method is the least aggressive mode of repair. If this method does not resolve the problem, you may still have to use one of the other methods.
To run the Detect and Repair feature in Word 2003 and in earlier versions of Word, click Detect and Repair on the Help menu in Word. The Detect and Repair feature fixes and repairs Word. All files, registry entries, and optional shortcuts for all Office programs are verified and repaired. If you run Detect and Repair from Word, all other Office programs are also checked. This feature performs only a checksum.
The Detect and Repair feature can also restore the Word program shortcuts on the Start menu. To restore the Word program shortcuts, click Help, click Detect and Repair, and then click to select the Restore my shortcuts while repairing check box.
If Detect and Repair does not correct the prob... Read more

The little icon in the corner indicates that the internet connection wors no browser will load any pages. I've released/renewed my ip address, tried in safe mode with networking (doesn't work), tried tcp/ip repair and pinging (all said, could not find host). There are other computers in the house and this is the only one that has this problem.

I've heard great things about techguy forums and I really hope someone here can help me. It'd be much appreciated.

A:Internet connection working but browsers won't load anything

Check the proxy settings and make sure that they are not set.

As to pinging, try to ping

If that works, then you have a DNS issue. If it does not work, you may have something else.

Hi, I'm posting on behalf of my father. He's experiencing an odd problem with his internet connection whereby all internet applications (Outlook, MSN, etc.) work but his web browser doesn't.

There's more - this problem only affects his user profile. If he logs onto another one (say, my mother's) the web browser works fine.

He's running Windows XP Home SP3 and has tried both IE8 and Firefox 3.5.5. He regularly runs scans using Avira Antivirus Free Edition and the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

I hope that's enough information. Any help would be much appreciated!

Hello All,

I know this is a pretty old problem, but I can't seem to get the below solution to work for me.

1. Click start, type cmd in the Start Search box, right-click cmd.exe, click Run as administrator, and then press Continue.

2. Type netsh winsock reset at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.
Note If the command is typed incorrectly, you will receive an error message. Type the command again. When the command is completed successfully, a confirmation appears, followed by a new command prompt. Then, go to step 3.

3. Type exit, and then press ENTER. You should be prompted to reboot, if not you should reboot and test.

Some pages will load, but either very slowly or give me the timed out message when I use firefox. The home pages will load instantly though. This Desktop is now 2 days old and worked perfectly fine when I did the initial set up at my brothers house. All other laptops and devices connect fine and load pages quickly. I havent had a desktop since my family computer and am using my tv as a monitor. Could this be interference from the tv since it is sitting behind it, or is it that I just have a slow internet provider? I do not have a pic of my ipconfig, but I will get that tonight if I have to. Any suggestions will be very much appreciated.

A:Windows 7 internet connection, but no working browser

For Windows 7 the commands are a bit more specific.

Winsock entries tells Windows 7 how to access your network services. Additionally, your TCP/IP protocol can be corrupted. The TCP/IP protocol is a stack of 4 layers that includes several transport layers, but when this stack is corrupt you will constantly have connectivity issues.netsh winsock reset catalog (reset winsock entries)

netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (reset TCP/IP stack)

Besides the reset of TCP/IP and winsock you might want to check your DNS settings and maybe add the DNS servers to the IPv4 properties. Without the ipconfig/all I can only guess.

I just downloaded Mozilla Firefox 1.0.6 and I can't get any pages to load PERIOD!

Everything worked fine before I made the upgrade - and I even tried IE, and everything seemed to be working there, so the problem has to be with Firefox.

I'm getting really pissed off. Everytime I install an update with Firefox, I encounter some weird problem.

I even tried uninstalling this and then installing it directly from the homepage, and still the same problem. I can't get any page to load.

Howdy Ya'll Being on dialup, I've done all I can to make using the internet as efficient as possible. I use Firefox browser and have installed the AdBlock Plus add on. That works really well, BTW. Additionally, I've installed a 3rd party addon called Preloader from Sourceforge. Once a page is loaded, revisiting that page is real snappy.

What this post is all about is every time I reboot my machine, the first time I visit any site its like I've never been there before. Typical dialup.. Slow step by step loading of even the smallest graphic. Just wonder if there is some setting in FF I've missed that might help this.

Checked cookies in my Firefox profile and there are a ton of them in there.

Thanks... Raybro

A:Solved: Firefox page load time

Your "ISP" could be the culprit to slow browsing. I tried several and have settled on "TOAST.net" [http://www.toast.net/] with great satisfaction. I use SeaMonkey as my browser, and it allows use of a proxy, which TOAST accommodates. It makes all the difference in the world! Further, TOAST provides a multi-setting accelerator that really does work. I use "maximum" for sites where graphics display is not important and "very good" when I am downloading pictures, which I do every day.

p.s. No broadband available where I am.

Presario v3000 laptop, winxp sp3.

Everything was working fine this morning. Visited all the sites I normally do. I always visit some of the same sites in the evening. This evening I connected, opened FF and my home page would not load, nor would any other page. Tried IE, same. I haven't changed anything since this morning, so I'm at an absolute loss as to what could have happened.

While researching on the web with no solution, I discovered there are no ports listed in Device Manager, but apparently they do exist because it tells me it is connected.

I am presently using my old desktop comp on the same internet connection, so that is not the problem. All I did on my laptop since this morning is play onboard games and read an article or two I had pasted into Word Pad.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give.
