ODBC Native State S1T00: timeout expired

Q: ODBC Native State S1T00: timeout expired

Hello Again:
I am very new to ODBC connectivity, but i know sql fairly well:

What can generate a Native State Error: Native State S1T00: timeout expired on a SQL 2000 database; NT4 OS Server??

I am running sql database dependent applications on this server: 3 to be exact.

e.g. I have an application which transports data that was entered to the SQL database located on this Server via a LAN user. This application then dynamically takes this data and transports it to another device located on the same sub-net as the Server for data recognition and other functionalities. This is performed in milliseconds hence it may be utilizing the (winmm.dll) file to accomplish this. But the error message:

"Warning State: S1T00,Native:0, Origin: [Microsoft][ODBC
SQL Server Driver] timeout expired"

causes this process to fail along with other ODBC and SQL dependent applictions.

Can someone please help/ inform me what can cause this and how to prevent this??

Can a modem dial-in access cause this?? though it was running fine with modem access in the past, and no change in its configs.??

Thank you in advance

Preferred Solution: ODBC Native State S1T00: timeout expired

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

ODBC connections do have a set timout I believe and ODBC connections from your connection string in the web page can also expire if the returned data doesn't get back to the browser in time. IIS also has a set timeout for scripts of 60 seconds I believe and can also cause errors. There are 3 likely places these errors are being generated from but I would suspect the connection string on your web page first and then IIS's timout for scripts....if you are using ASP and IIS

Good Morning All,

I am having issues installing Windows updates, they have been failing upon install for the past 3-4 months.  I get the error code 80070079, "The Semaphore timeout has expired".  So I tried backing up my data to just wipe it and reload the OS, the backup fails as well, same error message.  Then I tried moving files manually to an external drive and that as well timeouts on the larger files.  I have searched the Internet and it many people seem to have this issue and it relates to the network adapter, but I am not trying to do anything over the network (Updates are already downloaded just waiting to install), so I feel it is something else.  Does anyone know of a fix or possible solution?  I searched semaphore through the registry and there are a lot of entries, but not sure if i need to change any of them or not?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Machine is a Dell Optiplex 780, Windows 7 32-Bit, 4GB Ram, 800GB HDD, Broadcomm Network Adapter.

Thanks,
Brent

I would boot to a linux cd or usb stick, and copy your files that way.

Check the health of the hard drive maybe, with hdtune or gsmartcontrol

I'm new, and will try to explain my problem:

I have a Web application that works very fine. But sometimes, when I make a query over the database (products table), it response with the message "Timeout expired". It appears at 30 sec.
Sometimes it works fine.

I have seen the IIS option about timeout, and SqlServer too.

I don't know what can I do!!!!

Thanks

When deleting a file from a local drive, that I have permissions to the local folder on, I'm getting the Semaphore timeout period has expired error.

I've tried to make it as simple as possible for the system, after doing a clean boot, and it still failing, I'm currently in safe mode, without networking, and am still seeing the error.  Anybody have a suggestion or work around?  Files in other
folders are not having this issue.

hello again...

dang this thing is a pain!!

new issue today, trying to save a tiny .rtf file to external USB drive, and get "semaphore timeout period has expired" message and have to save to local drive instead. also get the message if i drag and drop into the desired location.

perhaps related to the issue i occasionally have: the machine loses connection to the external drive and either the folder shows empty (it's not!) or doesn't show as even being connected. little blue light on the drive will sometimes go out, sometimes not, but still no access...

EDIT: i have two verbatim USB drive attached... one or the other of them will occasional disappear from This PC and when i look at device manager there is an error on that drive. i disconnect and reconnect and the drives show up and the error in device manger goes away... there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to why this happens. when it does and i try to save something to the drive, that's when i get the "semaphore timeout period has expired"

i have tried to update drivers using windows search online and it always says i have the best drivers loaded....

the drives have been checked for errors and windows reports none... there is still quite a bit of available space on them (80+ gigs on each) and when they are connected and live, i can access files with no problem... it just decides to seemingly drop the drive randomly...

thanks for any help...

I maintain some software that makes a tcp socket connection to a different piece of software and sends data back and forth (pretty basic stuff there). We use boost asio to handle reading and writing of data over the socket connection. We have a client that
has deployed this software on Windows7. The client has been having issues with our software not being able to maintain a reliable socket connection. One thing I have noticed is that quite often the networking callback are receiving the error: The semaphore
timeout period has expired.

This error is not coming from anywhere in our code (or the boost code). I've done some research on it and I found a Microsoft Knowledge base article on this error for Windows XP (support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/325487). I've seen a few people ask questions about
this error on Windows7, but they're all in regards to moving files to different drives, nothing regarding network connections.

What does this error mean in regards to Windows7? Does the knowledge base article I mentioned still apply to Windows7?

Hello Ady,

Thanks for your post!

This issue may be a little complex and require some steps to troubleshoot:

1.    Update the driver of wireless network adapters in both of your computers.
2.    Temporarily disable all the firewalls and anti-virus applications, then check the issue again.
3.    To exclude the factors from other services and applications, do a clean boot to check the issue and perform Step 4.(KB929135) How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vistahttp://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;929135
4.    With clean boot, try to apply the hotfixes contained in the following KB articles:(KB932045) Error message when you use a network connection to copy a large file from one Windows Vista-based computer to another Windows Vista-based computer: "The connection has been lost"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;932045(KB932063) Several problems occur on a Windows Vista-based computer when you work in a wireless network environment
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;932063
If problem still persists after steps above, this issue is very possibly due to network devices or configurations, please let me know:

1.    Whether this problem occurs in wired network?
2.    If strengthening the network signals, the problem can be changed?
3.    What size of files will lead to this error.
4.    Does this error terminate the copy process?

Greetings,

My environment is: Win'7, Visual Studio 2010, C#

There is another message on these forums with almost exactly the same title. It's closed, so I couldn't post there.

I'm getting that exact same response from Win'7 in a try /catch scheme.

i.e., "...The semaphore timeout period has expired..."

I am quite confident that the serial port is really there, as he will open and will transfer data from time to time.

It's the whims of the hardware that have me so confused.

The exact same code worked perfectly last night. In fact, it has worked for weeks.

The statement which I believe is causing the error is...
TheUsersChosenSerialPort.Open();

Much like the other thread mentioned, the port is a BlueTooth connector, and Win'7 is reporting him okay, and so on.

I welcome responses from those with useful knowledge on this topic.

I have two laptops at my company that have Windows 7 Home - thus cannot login to AD/Domain as a specific user. They in-turn use a local administrative account setup on those laptops. We have a database setup with linked connections to our SQL Server 2005.

Whenever we're trying to access those linked tables we get the following error message:
We can bypass this issue by manually typing in the Login/Password within this error prompt.
What's strange is that we have ODBC setup to use the SQL Server Authentication:
That SHOULD allow us to not use Windows Authentication (as you can see it's trying to use the 'Guest' account on Windows 7. I've tried making this change through both x32 and x64 versions of ODBC (located in wow64). I've searched all over the internet concerning this issue but no one seems to have anything similar. This used to work a few weeks ago and I don't know of anything we changed other than a few system updates.

The SQL Server's Security is setup to use both authentication methods:
Our SQL Server gives us an Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 11
A quick Google search explains that State 11 means, "Valid login but server access failure".

Any help please? The only solution I have right now is to install W7 Pro...
Thanks

A:Access & ODBC connection issue on W7 Home, State 11

Sound like a Windows permissions issue to see the SQL server.

You could also map a network drive using other credentials. This will authenticate the computer onto the domain.

How do I fix that?

A:Vista: "The Semaphore Timeout Period Has Expired"

Is this a Linksys Router?

Wired or WIFI?

Are you using an Internet Security Suite or ZoneAlarm?
This may also be thr problem....
This can happen when the total path length of the source file
and the total path length of the destination file are greater than a given
value, 128 I believe. When this occures in windows, it results in a Path

Q: Odbc?

Hi,

I have a question about ODBC and I'm hoping that someone can help. Is this something that comes routinely with Windows XP Home edition, or is it something that had to have been installed? I have just recently noticed it on my computer.

I am asking because I am wondering if this was placed on my machine by someone.

Thank you.

It is the Control Panel Applet that controls your access to Database files both locally (on your computer) and on a network. It is installed when you install Office. Don't worry about it. Background: We run this program at work called "Surgisource", it is a medical billing program of sorts. Most of our computers here run Windows XP 32bit and the software runs without fail. We have aproximately 10 Windows 7 machines of which only a few are running Surgisource. Of these few only 2 are x64. Of these 2, Surgisource runs perfectly fine on one, and has issues on the other. Since in all likelihood no one will understand the nature of the software discussed here I will speak in generalities; one user is trying to generate reports and gets a "534" error on 2 of these specific reports when she adjusts the date renge beyond one month. I called Surgisource and they don't support x64 (the software is x32) but they seemed absolutely certain that the error had to do with the ODBC configuration. I am fully aware that there is a 32bit ODBC config utility which is what I used.

Now for my question: Does the ODBC config "embed" itself somewhere on Windows 7 outside of the actual config utility? Like somewhere in the registry, or in an .ini file?

At this point I suspect the problem has something to do with the ODBC config not correcting itself (upon being altered via the utility) at the location/file where the actual ODBC info is written. Here is my evidence:

In order for this software to work you have to have the ODBC configured because the data source is located on a server and by default the software does not know where this is. It is critica... Read more

Man, I loathe wrestling with ODBC sources (hello IBM DB2). You say one of the x64 machines runs fine, while the problem is only present on the other one?

You could root arount the registry and compare their settings to see if there's any difference. Apply standard registry editing precautions here (make backups, don't touch anything you don't understand, etc).

Main system DSN info should be in HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\ODBC\ODBC.INI
ODBC driver info should be in HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI
Some 32-bit driver info may be in HKLM\Software\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI
User DSN info should be in HKCU\Software\ODBC\ODBC.INI

You could also fire up Process Monitor (a free download app now owned by Microsoft) and check the registry access records for C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe (the ODBC Data Source Administrator), to find out what registry keys to search for DSN info. This is something of a last resort though, the info you need should be in the keys above.

Compare the settings in the working installation with the settings in the one where it's not working and see.

Hi All,

I have two issues with Access 2003 on two different machines running XP. Both users are members of the administrators group on the local machine.

1. On the first machine when I try to link to an external data source I get "Registry Error" in the drop down box "Files of type". There are a few data sources there like Excel, dBase etc but ODBC is missing. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2003 and have even tried repairing it. I have also gone to the c:\windows\system32 dir and registered all the ms*40.dll's. I have also reinstalled XP albeit just the upgrade option as opposed to a full reinstall. None of the above has worked.

2. On the other machine I am trying to link to a Foxpro 2.6 for dos (don't ask why it is a very long story!) free table ODBC connection. I get the the ODBC connection and am able to choose the Foxpro connection (Visual Foxpro Driver 6.01.8629.01) but then it throws the error

The annoying thing is that if I link a table on another machine and copy the database I can open the table and edit the data. Also if I log in as administrator locally I can use the ODBC connection to connect to the tables but not as my username on the domain. Again my domain account is a member of the local administrators. I have done all the reinstals as described in the first point and reregistered the dll's.

I'm using Access 97 on a Windows 2000 machine. Monthly, I get a Cognos Powerplay cube file (.mdc), with which I run reports using the Cognos Powerplay application.

I would like to use Access on this file to automate what I do manually in Powerplay. I am proficient in Access VB but I have not used DAO or ODBC. I've read the on-line help and I believe I need ODBC drivers but that is about as much as I get out of it.

Can someone tell me how to get started with this?

Thanks in advance,

Curt

You need to contact them for the driver. I didn't see anything on their web site, but they may have one.

Hi guys, I installed a bank application on my windows xp machine, that application has a server which loads the templates/data to be used on that application. However, after installing the app. I encounterred an error on most of the pc (except mine) error shows that "Source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers [ODBC Driver Manager] Driver does not support this function"

The installation procedure of this application in XP was just a typical installation setup except that after completely installing it, I have to change the .ini file and path it to the server.

Its also a mystery to me that my error is on ODBC since I am not using any odbc connection for this one.

I hope anyone can help me on this one. Thanks

I administer a Windows server running Exchange 2003. We have specialized business application (basically the AR side of the business) that has captured names, addresses, phone numbers, etc. for all our members. It is based on Pervasive SQL.

I'd like to find a way to connect Outlook to that member data. I can do it now via export to csv and import to a Contacts folder. That means Outlook does not have live data.

I'd like to find a way to implement an LDAP connection to the data (probably via ODBC). A short search of the web did not turn up anything I could see to be useful.

Suggestions please....

I have following problem:

I was running Application under Visual Studion 2005 that connects to MDB file when it threw an error that I don't have OLEDB driver installed on my machine.

I checked in "Administrative Tools - > Data Sources (ODBC)" in "User DSN" tab. There I have list of three: dBASE Files, Excel Files, MS Access Database. I selected each of them and clicked "Configer...". It threw an error: "The setup routines for the ...... ODBC driver could not be found. Please reinstall the driver."

I was looking on how to reinstall MDAC in "Control Panel -> Programms -> Turn Windows features on or off" and was unssuccefull.

I'll apprishiate any help. Thanks.

Problem solved. Solution was found on the Web. Needs to change the Application target in the Project Setting for 32bit.

I have a vista 64 bit and there are not any drivers for access how do I install the odbc drivers so that I can use access. The only drivers there are for sql

A:ODBC drivers

Go to C:\Windows\syswow64 and execute odbcad32.exe in order to work with your MS office databases.
Alternatively you can also run the file from C:\Windows\System32 which has the same odbcad32.exe file.
Hope this helps !

Not sure if this is in the right section, I don't know a lot about this just trying to configure every last thing that matters, Windows sucks enough yeah and some things are just visual tweaks but not something you'd think about doing automatically, or re-arraging folders.

So the first thing I notice is in this control panel there seem to be Spanish ODBC drivers... how do I uninstall them, or are they needed for something when you don't speak spanish? (I install all language packs I can find so I dont' get squares and ?s on internet pages, other then that I have no use for most languages.) As well is there some easy way to update the rest of the ODBC drivers without intense Googling? Do I need the ones that seem to be for programs that I will never use (such as "Microsoft Fox")? If so how do I uninstall them?

Posted in this section because everything other then SQL seems to have something to do with a business application.

A:ODBC drivers?

You can ignore the extra ODBCs (Open Database Connections). There would be not much value gained from deleting them. Why are you messing around with the ODBCs anyhow, are you doing development or setting up connections to a database on the backend of another database?

The last few days my laptop has been freezing repeatedly, forcing me to hold down the power button to turn it off because it becomes totally unresponsive.
While running windows defender I noticed the computer would freeze when it got to the file odbcconf.dll.
I tried running another anti-spyware program and it would freeze when it got to the file odbcconf.rsp.
I ran a virus scan using AVG and it froze the computer when it reached the file odbcint.dll.
When I go onto control panel, administrative tools, and click on Data Sources (ODBC) that also freezes the computer.

I'm assuming ODBC is what is freezing my laptop. And that something keeps trying to use it even when I'm not running virus and spyware scans.

After reading on the internet that odbc is not essential, I deleted the odbcconf.rsp file, the odbcconf.dll file and the odbcconf.exe file to see if that would solve the problem, but it didn't help. My laptop froze while windows defender was scanning another file by odbc.
I started deleting all of the odbc files one by one and it froze again.

I did a system restore and everything is back where it was now.

Can you please help? I've tried to find solutions for this but I can't find any issues with ODBC like the one I have. I have no idea what caused this or how to fix it.

I use Windows 98 with Internet Explorer 6. When I go online I get a small moveable window marked C:/WINDOWS/odbc.hta which comes up usually when I shut a window. I can remove it by clicking on the time in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, but I would like to stop it appearing at all. It seemed to start soon after a virus attack which I think I've cleared. McAfee scans suggest no infection. I'd be very grateful for any suggestions for stopping this?
