Q: Windows 8 unlock...

Would appreciate some help.

Is it possible to use the eicfg removal tool on Windows 8.1, like you do in Windows 7?

Would like to get an all-versions menu of W8.1 to choose my licensed version during install.

Thanks!

Preferred Solution: Windows 8 unlock...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Western Digital WD My Passport 2 TB external hard drive
Western Digital's security software allows a password to be set on the external drive, encrypting it. When the drive is connected to a PC, a virtual CD (VCD) partition runs (via autorun) an unlocker utility WD Drive Unlock.exe, that allows password entry.
When I connect the locked drive to a Windows 7 PC (that does not have any WD software installed), the autoun popup appears and I select "Run WD Drive Unlock.exe". At that point, User Account Control (UAC) elevation prompt appears, requiring Administrator
password in order to continue.
WD Drive Unlock then lets me enter password.
Because of UAC elevation, the unlocker can be used only by an Administrator user or by a standard user account who knows the Administrator password.

QUESTION
Is UAC elevation prompt truly necessary?
Is it appearing because Western Digital hasn't coded the unlocker exe correctly, or would any such utility require UAC elevation?

I'd like to find a way that a standard user account can run the unlocker to enter passsword and access the external drive, without having to know the Windows Admin password.

Hi there
Can't you sign in to your laptop using a LOCAL account.
I must admit I haven't seen this problem before - but I can't for the life of me think why I should ever want to start up a laptop in anything OTHER than Local mode (unless I'm using a Work laptop on a Work Lan - and all that does is attach Lan Drives and login to the company VPN--if Lan isn't up it will still log on to a Local Windows installation although half the applications won't be available.

A:How do I unlock windows

That means a password was inputted in the bios to lock the drive. There is no way around that hardware lock, no matter what you try. Because it is stored in the firmware on the circuit board. Some manufacturers will also store a duplicate lock on the drive platter itself.

Hello
I have recently bought a great piece of software called 'System Mechanic 6'
I am currently using it to fix the problems that have haunted my Hard-drive for a while now.

Today, When I ran a Hard-Drive scan to fix any errors to my hard-drive,
The scan finished, but on the summary at the end of the scan
it told me my C: Drive was locked and it couldnt be fixed.

So, I basically need to know how to unlock it
As in which program to use
and what command I use to unlock it

I would also like to know how I can Lock it again afterwards
to prevent any immediate re-infection of my hard-drive :)

A:How do I unlock C: Drive on Windows XP ?

Hi

The HDD is locked when its in use usually. The LOCK command blocks direct access by programs that can corrupt file names and/or destroy disk data, resulting in the loss of files on your disk. I've never used this piece of software but you won't have to use the HDD repair function, Windows has one that is perfectly adequate and suited for it.

-Go to Start>Run>type: chkdsk /r and hit enter.
-You will be prompted and choose Y and reboot.
-It will run on restart and do all the necessary checks/repairs needed tp your HDD.

On a side note, in Command Prompt this is how to lock unlock a drive.

LOCK [drive:]

Hit enter and choose Y. Its locked now. For instance drive C: would be:

LOCK C:

For unlocking

UNLOCK [drive:]

The same as before, you would type unlock followed by drive location.

Let us know how that goes.

Hello - I am having a problem with my work laptop. On occasion, when it is locked, it hangs upon unlocking, for 30-60 seconds. It only does this when connected to the internet, and only seems to do it when I am connected to networks outside of work. If I disconnect from the internet it works perfectly normal.

Additionally, I found I have the same problem bringing up task manager. If connected to the internet (outside of my work network), it takes about 30-60 seconds to show up, otherwise it shows up right away.

I have a dell Latitude D630 running Windows XP SP2.

If there are any programs I can run to log the problem, please let me know and I can share the results from that. Thank you for your help.

I recently reformatted my computer because of a Malware and I felt like changing it up so I partitioned my drive to Windows 7 and I'm looking for some tool like I had on Windows XP that allows me to unlock anything and delete because I have some locked files on my external hard drive that I cannot enter nor can I delete which arouses my suspicion that my malware might be hibernating in there. I've ran a few virus scanner such as Norton, AVG, Avast! and some free Trojan removal software and I had a few traces left but now nothing comes up but I'm still slightly paranoid about this.

Anyway... I'm looking for help about some software that can unlock and delete anything.. and maybe (I know I'm in the wrong section) but if you know anything further I should do about this threat.

Thanks.

Well, the reason i'm posting is because, when i don't use Windows 8 for about 20 minutes, it literally locks up and even though i can see the screen, the key board and mouse are functionless.

And all the while i thought it was my KVM switch, and so i disconnected the KVM mouse and keyboard, but continued using the screen KVM switch and that's when i realized, its not a KVM switch problem, its a Windows 8 problem or Windows 8 setting.

Any ideas anyone?
Thanks very much and the positive waves is, i don't have to buy a new KVM switch! yeah baby!

So for the past 2-3 weeks I have been noticing a ton of lag in my computer. I will go into detail of my problem after I list my specs:
Code:
Computer Specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 (2.33GHz)
Intel DG33FBC Motherboard
500W Power Supply
4x1GB PC26400 Crucial RAM
2x500GB Seagate 7200.10 (1 of these is boot drive)
1x160GB Western Digital
This computer is running Windows XP for almost 2 years now. I have reformatted a few times, but this installation is probably 8 months old. Lately I have been noticing that when I boot up my computer or if I unlock it after its been locked for about an hour (or more) it takes about 5 minutes for it to come back into a working state. When I boot up my computer I will see one item pop up in the taskbar (bottom right) and then I just have an hourglass for about 5 minutes before the other processes start and I begin to see other items in the taskbar.

I have run CCleaner and checked MSConfig for my startup processes and at last count I only have 8 processes running at startup. But this should not effect the "lag" after my computer is unlocked.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

Thanks in advance.

First, I am not sure which series of laptop I have to know if I am even posting to the correct board here. I used a .vbs file to extract the windows 7 product key from my acer and thought it would be fine to use when I reinstalled  windows 7 premium but after the install it rejected the product key. When I contacted Microsoft they said it was an OEM SLP situation and that I would have to get the product key unlocked from the manufacturer which is Acer, or do they mean the retailer who sold the laptop, then I would likely have to provide proof of purchase.Something tells me this whole idea is so that they can try to bill me to unlock the code so that I can activate the new Windows installation. I see on the support site that they mention purchasing recovery media. Thats kind of sleazy to do to customers who bought a laptop with windows installed. So my question is how do I get my accurate product key to be able to activate my windows 7 re-install. I tried Magical Jellybean and it gives me the same product key which fails activation. What can I do to salvage this Acer laptop that works fine but simply needs Windows activated. I shouldnt have to buy another copy of Windows for it. There must be a solution that does not involve spending more money.

Hi there @sandovalnatalie,  Thank you for joining in on the HP Support Forums and Welcome! I understand that you forgot the password to log into your Notebook. There is a document called How to Recover Your Forgotten Password. Although it says for Windows 8, it should work for Windows 10 also. Some of the information I am about to give you will seem reiterated. However, in this document you will see that it says, "CAUTION: If you are using a local user account HP cannot recover or reset your password if it is lost or forgotten. If you prefer to use a local user account, HP strongly recommends creating a password reset disk to enable you to reset your password in case it is forgotten. If you do not have a password reset disk and you forget your password, you may be directed to perform a full recovery to original factory conditions and will lose any data that was not backed up to an external location." There is a document from Microsoft that I found also called When you can't sign in to your Microsoft account. Hopefully one of these two documents helps resolve the issue. Let others know if this reply was helpful by clicking the Accept as Solution button. You can also show your appreciation by clicking the Thumbs Up.  Please let me know how this goes. Thanks!

Hi There

I upgraded a HP laptop to the newest windows 10 version and as per organization requirements started bitlocker encryption on the windows drive.  While the encryption was running the user who uses the computer, for some reason had restarted
the computer while encryption was in progress.

After the restart, it showed an error 0xc0000225 "Unable to find file winload.exe"
It was not displaying the Bitlocker unlock screen so as to unlock the drive.
I also saved the recovery key and have it printed.
Although after booting using a win10 usb and using CMD off the bootable usb to try unlock the drive, it did not work.
I used the command  x:\>windows\system32> manage-bde -unlock e: -rp "the 48digit key"
but it said the password wasnt able to unlock the drive. Not sure why as I have the right key.
Also note that I used the new encryption method that works only on windows 10.

I also tried removing the harddisk and connecting it to another PC that has windows 10 version 1511 and when clicking unlock drive it says that I need a newer version of windows to unlock the drive. How can that be when I have the newest version??

The user has some important data to recover and any help is appreciated to unlock the drive
The HDD is also a samsund SSD drive

Thanks

Lately my pointer is disappearing after i login from sleep or locked computer.

I had this problem in the past but it got solved after i restored my PC, now it came back to haunt me.
I am guessing some updates disrupted with the mouse cursor (not an expert opinion).

I've tried many things but the issue seems to be persistent.

Here are some things I've tried with no results:

Changing the pointer options (hide while you type, pointer trails, ctrl to highlight) and combinations of them.

I tried using different pointers (Black, White, Black small, etc)

Also tried using troubleshooting the software changes, sfc /scannow, clean registry with ccleaner, rebooting (many times).

It seems to be a problem with no concrete solution.

The only solution that I found is (Clt-Alt-Del) it changes the screen and the pointer appears again, if I lock the computer it is gone once more.

If somebody can help i would appreciate it.

thanks

I've just read in other thread about program named Inception that can basicly unlock any machine in matter of just minutes, by connecting the targetet pc/laptop to a host machine, and the program will trick the device memory and letting the attacker to type any words he likes, that the Operating system will consider the normal password? Just watched few videos in youtube about it. Also i found  that this program is being around for many years now, yet there is so little information for it? How can i've never heard of it since i read so much forums about security and stuff? If someone uses that program will it permanently delete/remove or change the original password, or it will remain as it was, so next time you log in normaly you will have no idea someone previously messed with your computer? I never believed such program exists, and they are even free. Jesus Christ.. Does this work on new laptops like Dell Inspiron 15z?

A:Inception program to unlock windows in matter of minutes?

I'm not sure about the "Inception" program, but there is one we use at our shop here that can remove it in seconds from WINXP-10 (not sure if i should name it or not, i leave that up to the mods)

And to remove passwords one would need a program with a higher run-level than NT has. (Normally, things are changing)

the program we use completely wipes the password as if one had not been set.

Also i can not definitively say if it will work on newer laptops or not.

able to use them on all my computers.  These drives will unlock successfully in all my computers (Windows 7 Pro, Ultimate, 8.1 Pro & 10 Pro) except my office workstation.  The error states "BitLocker Unlock Wizard has stopped working"
and upon closing this dialog box, the unlock wizard box closes.

Each time the unlock fails, an event is recorded in Event Viewer.  Two alternating errors are recorded (one each time the unlock fails).  They are copied below.

I just have to say that this AdministrativeUnlock.dll is awesome for our school's computer lab environment.  We almost tweaked the code to our liking and it works with Windows 10!  We made the tile a "Sign Out" button for ALL our students
to just log off the user who has locked the screen, whether intentionally or unintentionally.

Now, is there a way to just bypass that first authentication challenge?  Once the force log off happens, the students have to authenticate to get back in again anyway, so it doesn't make any sense to have to enter their credentials twice.

Can someone out there guide us through this code change?  (My C++ skills are amateur at best)

Your time and help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

E

Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite L675-11J and after upgrade to windows 10, FN buttonand touchpad lock/unlock button don't work.
Please help!
Best regards

A:Windows 10 - FN key and touchpad lock/unlock button problem Satellite L675-11J

Fn keys require special Toshiba software which controls this notebook feature.

But the Windows 10 drivers are not published for this Satellite L675 series because its not Win 10 supported.

From my point of few this means that you could use the notebook in connection with Win 10 but without the functioning FN buttons.

Microsoft accidentally leaked the golden keys to the Windows kingdom. The keys allow hackers to unlock every Windows device, including tablets, phones and other devices that are protected by Secure Boot. The most alarming part about the leak is that it is believed that it may likely be impossible for Microsoft to fully recover from the leak.
The leakwas uncovered by two security researchers MY123 and Slipstream, who revealed in a (Star Wars-style) blog that the security flaw allowed malicious entities with admin rights or physical access to a device can bypass Secure Boot to not only run other operating systems (OS) like Linux or Android on the device but also install and execute rootkits and bootkits, at the most deeply penetrated level of the device.
The researchers wrote: "A backdoor, which MS put in to secure boot because they decided to not let the user turn it off in certain devices, allows for secure boot to be disabled everywhere! You can see the irony. Also the irony in that MS themselves provided us several nice 'golden keys' (as the FBI would say) for us to use for that purpose."

A:Microsoft accidentally leaks golden keys that unlock every Windows device

Note: Physical Access is needed. In that case, I'm not particularly worried. A physical access requirement is pretty much a show-stopper unless "physical access" can be replaced with a social engineering technique to get a employee to insert physical media into the PC.
