Back up software

Q: Back up software

I have a computer with a 2TB internal HD. I also have a 4TB external HD.
Is there any software that will allow a full system backup to the external HD so that should anything happen I can simply copy the backup from the external HD to the internal (OEM) HD and continue as though it were my "prior to the problem" arrangement?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

i used to use nero back it up, it was just perfect, when i am on it, it displays a folder tree, i just select which i want to back up, i select the whole user folder and that's it, the software it ask me where do i want to sae it, if i choose a HDD it will create one or two files, one the main file and the other the index or something like that, or if i wanted to save it to save it to DVD's, no problem, the software tells me how many dvds i am going to need and thats its it just ask me for each DVD, one by one until it finish burning them all. if i want my data back, i just go to the index file (the last dvd, and open ALL the data i have backup, i select the files i want, and the software only ask me which dvd to insert, he will extract it for me.

the problem is that in windows7 nero back it up throw some errors while selecting files, AND when installing nero, it ask for directx9, many says that it does not overwrite the directx11 that came with win7 but IT DOES because despite the dxdiag still says directx 11 is installed, there is a decrease in video performance on games.. a

so what back up software you recommend me?

i have reviewed several ones on google, i decide to try comodo back up, but i don't like it, i want a back up folder that show me my files EXACTLY as they are contained in my user folder, where it let me choose with a simple mark which one go or not to be backed up, and to save in a simple (uncompressed could be, i don't care) or few files, and if it offer ... Hi Good Peoples,

I have just purchased a Segate external 300GB drive and it is to become the main storage for my big files (like photos) but more importantly, as the backup for my lap top and desk top computers.

The drive has been partitioned appropriately for my use so it should all be fine; but I noticed that the "Bounce Back Express" soggyware that came with it is deficient in one major feature.

If for example, the lap top crashes I can't use the external as a bootable disk; I would have to buy Seagates Bounce Back Professional Software to do it.

Any idea please? Ideally I would like software that can configured to back up automatically too. In the case of an internal disk crash or disk carking it (which they do far to regularly,) I would like to be able to just restore the whole box and dice from the external.

Suggestions please? Thanks in advance.

Cheers
Ric

My company is now using a HP Pro Desk G3 on Windows 10. My current version of Acronis will not backup this tower. I have co-workers using the Free version of Macrium and Clonezilla. Acronis states on their web site the 2019 version will work with W 10. There are if I re-call correctly three different versions of 2019 Acronis to purchase.

Does anyone have/had experience with Acronis 2019 and which version?

From a business perspective, this seems really incoherent. People using their own personal choice of software for backups? It would seem better to use an overarching product, instead of a patchwork approach like this one. How do you share data? Is there a client-server infrastructure?

Anyway, getting back to the main question: I would eschew Acronis 2019 and suggest looking at AOMEI Backupper. Even the freeware version is really good.

We are looking for some software to use in order to run nightly backups over six networked (windows workgroup) PC's. All use Win 98 except one running ME.

Looking for something that will back up files and folders (preferably to a non-proprietary format) incrementally that can be automated to run on a nightly basis. We're looking for software that will basically copy selected files and folders to a specified hard drive on the network.

Any suggestions for software or other backup solutions?

Thank in advance.

If you were savvy enough you could write a pretty simple batch file to do this and use the sceduler on the PC the files will be stored on to execute the batch file. As long as there are no files open on the network like databases it should run without a hitch. There of course would be no compression, but you could also automate a winzip session to run immediately following the batch file execution.

Hi. About five months ago I bought a laptop from Dell and it came with a system restore cd. Anyway, last week I decided to reinstall Windows and everything from cd only to find out that i had no idea where the cd had gone. I spent hours looking for it when i finally found it behind my desk. I've learned my lesson and now keep cds safely tucked away into a cd binder.

However this scared me quite badly. I just realized that I have half of the Adobe Creative suit just lying around in my office. I've got all of the licenses locked away in a fire proof safe where I've also placed a newly purchased cd binder. Now the question is, how do i backup my software to cds? I know how to backup files that are freeware exe's. But how do I backup an entire cd, like my OEM Windows cd that starts when i've put it into the computer at startup? Or is it even possible? Thanks!

I've recently purchased Nero 6 Ultra, does this have an option to backup stuff? Or are there any freeware apps to do so?

The Sales person was very Technical, had us start Windows, delete all fun stuff in the Registry, exit to DOS, deltree win, and then, upon entering Bios setup, shut the system off. We restarted, and pressed the spacebar, selected the timeframe we wanted to "Go Back" to, and made all the bad stuff go away. Gateway is now offerring Go Back on some of their systems for a trial period in Europe, but it was implemented before the Millenium in the States. Hi, welcome to TSG.

Using data recovery tools you might be able to restore some of the files, but the registry entries are gone and the only way to get it working again is to reinstall the program. If the demo time has expired then there's not much you can do. Why do you need the program back?

A:Best Back-Up software?

Hi Ben,

The Windows backup will do automatic backups, and you can tell it what to backup.

I'm not so sure about the real-time monitoring, though. I haven't seen any good programs that will do that.

You could create a system restore point on a schedule. That will backup the registry, and settings and the like.

You can also create a full system image, or include it in the scheduled backup. It does take up a chunk of space, but it allows for a complete restore in minutes.

Okay guys, I have Veritas Back-up Exec version 4.62 on a Win XP Pro machine using a Travan 10GB/20GB drive. I have been having numerous problems with the software. When I create new back-up jobs they work right for a few days and then just stop running. Now it's not reporting and from scheduled tasks it look like they stopped running again. I have been using this software for years without a problem but on XP Pro I'm having problems. I have installed, deleted teh directories, etc. reinstalled, and still new problems arise. Now I am getting teh error, "error 1 starting data management". This is a brand new error and now back-up Exec will not run. I'm fed up, which is a good replacement for XP Pro? This machine acts as a file server and I am trying to back-up two Seagate 80GB hard drives in a USB 2.0 attached RAID Box. The second hard drive is an exact copy of the first one and XP Pro see's them as drive F:. I called Veritas and they only supply server back-up solutions now and they referred me to stomp, inc. which now owns and supplies the program Back-up my PC. Acronis true image is the best around. I use it on a client's server. It takes an image of the server you can in case of disaster restore the image onto different hardware based server, so you are up and running in a couple of hours at the most. You can restore individual files. Our server backs up in 3 hours. The only downside is that it doesn't work very well with tapes for some reason. We have the image backed up by an online backup company, so there is always an image offsite and one onsite on an external drive ready to be booted from. It's really easy to use. I used veritas before but if a disaster happens it takes days to restore the server and data. Imaging is the way to go in my opinion. Hope that helps. GlitzyGirl

Hi all,

This is my first post outside the intro section, so hello. Also, I hope this is the right section for this thread.

I've finally got my act together and decided that I need a decent back-up solution for my data. So, as the title states, I'm looking for software recommendations from anyone with a little more experience of these things. I'll describe my requirements and hopefully someone can prescribe me the right software!

- I use a 1TB Samsung external drive, containing all my non-system files. It is this that I'm most interested in backing up.
- I have two 40GB internal drives, one system, one non-system. It would be good to back these up too, but the external is my priority.
- Both non-system drives (internal and external) contain a Truecrypt container that occupies half of their full capacity.
- I have a brand new 1TB Hitachi drive which will act as my back-up device.
- I need some free software that will automate my backing-up.

A pretty basic situation, I guess, but most of the back-up/synch software I've looked at (including the Samsung and Hitachi software bundled with my externals) seems primarily designed to back up system drives. My main interest is in synching the two externals. I have no clue how the Truecrypt containers will factor into this. Since they just act like regular files I assume it wont be an issue.

I'm not really sure what other info to give at this stage, so I'll wait to see if any kind soul is willing to ... Read more

A:Which back-up/synch software is right for me?

If you're willing to pay, go with this . It's called NovaBACKUP.Not sure how good this will work or not either, but: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/SyncBack.html .Or SyncToy if on Windows: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en . I really can't think of a good program that syncs the two externals... SyncBack or SyncToy might work. Sorry if I didn't help too much, that's all I could think of.

Please could you tell me what back up system I should use (there appears to be at least two Acer backup and Windows 7).
Thanks in advance.

A:Acer Back up Software

Win7 has an imaging program in Control Panel/Backup. This will restore the OS and any programs.
The recovery disks usually do the same, so I'd say use both.
Update them occasionally.
There is also a backup program in Control Panel you can use to keep your files backed outside of regular imaging or recovery disk creation.

Have any of you use dthis software? is it any good? Thanks.

Doesn't XP Pro come with a built in back-up solution (I think it's built with Back-up Exec)?

Hi Guys
I want to use a flash drive to back-up my files automatically. Files that I select. (Probably less than 5 GB)
Does Win 10 have a back-up utility that can do this? If so, how do I find it?

Hello I have somewhat of a dilema, I have several back up programs that will back up my os, should anything happen, but they only create a back up, there is no significant compression, and for the most part I can copy my entire hard disk to another hard disk without these programs. even windows ulitimate has a back up program, but after it is done with the 138 GBs on my hard drive the ending result is a 93 GB back up.

I am wondering if there are other software options that I can use to, say create an ISO image, which might be considerably smaller. or if there might be something out there I can use that has a compression ratio that would make the back up considerably smaller.

the Idea that i have is to create a recovery for my OS, as I back up my individual files to an external hard drive and disks but am unable to do this with my OS.

any suggestions?

Hello people,

I wonder if any one can help with my scenario regarding backing up / imaging and the relevant software...to explain, I bought a one touch backup system a few years ago so I could back up my laptop data onto a seperate hard drive. I have actually not really used it seriously because when I realised the software it came with (PC clone EX Lite) does not really clone, it only has a facility to back up user specified data, I was somewhat disappointed and gave up. What I really want it to do is take an image of the whole operating system and data and transplant it onto the USB hard drive so that if I get a problem with my laptop, I can just transfer it all back on to it, or a new hard drive I've put in it if it happens to die....... Which incidentally has done in the past and why I'm trying to be pro-active now.

The problem I have is that is seems like a mine-field in terms of software, do's and don'ts, can and cant's and each time I try do this I get bogged down in reading hundreds of different and contradicting posts, and give up.

My questions are can this be done, can it be done with my docking station (or would I need a specific driver perhaps) and can it be done freely with software I can find on the internet.

Thanks in advance to any help!

I have WIN XP Pro and want to back up my documents, addresses, favorites, etc in an efficient and easy way. Can someone provide a recommendation for a back up software routine or should I try to use an XP utililty? I would prefer using freeware if possible.

I use TaskZip, it allows you to specify multiple folders and/or files, compresses them into ZIP files, and allows multiple generations of backups to co-exist. It allows you to schedule backups for every day, week, or month.

While there is a comment about possible problems with NT4+, I've run this application on 2K and XP on a number of systems, and I've never had any issues.

Did I mention it was free?

I mess around with my XP install often enough that every 4-6 months I have to reformat and re-install, it takes several hours. I download movies, uninstall them, download software programs, uninstall, etc. Other than reformatting with a perfect install then cloning is there another way? I tried Acronis a few years ago and it was not very user friendly. I believe it has become much better now or so I heard, but would like your opinion.

I got so disgusted with having to reformat/install I started dinking with Linux, but this is a windoze world so then I had to run VM ware and it was just a pain. And don't get me started on Mac. 3X the cost of a windows machine, no thanks. Yes I know the code is better, its an offshoot of unix just like Linux but then you still need VM ware fusion or something of that nature because this is a windows world.

So what is the best cloning software. Will it be as easy as I hear. OS crashes and you are up and running in 15 minutes except having to update for patches? Is Norton Ghost better than Acronis? Or am I doing this the wrong way and should be considering something else?

TIA

I am interested in backing up my files with an on-line company and was hoping I could get a few recommendations to any of you that use such a backup, such a Carbonite or one of those companies.

My main concern is I'm not particularly happy about having anything running in the background all the time.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I use Google Docs, Picasa Web Gallery and MS Sky Drive. They are manual, but have a reasonable interface and plenty of room.
I just upgraded my Google storage to 20GB for $5.00 a year.

Hi, I have a few questions about backing up dvds. one is it really legal to back up a copy of your own dvds?

2. What are the or is the best backing up software?

3. I currently use xcopy. For dvd's with multiple episodes of a series (peticularly Alias) what kind of software would I use. Xcopy seems to only pick up the first episode and splits it funny with only 2gig on one disk and like 200MB on the other.

4. What is up with the dual layer thing? Can we burn dual layer dvds or is that just commercial stuff? what is it about, can i overcome it without putting a dvd on two dvds backed up?

I'm using Macrium Reflect, but I hate it. Every time I create a new system image, it creates a new +40GB system image. I want it to updates/replace on top of the old system image file. I tried both Incremental and Differential back up, but still the same problem.

A:What system image back up software do you use?

I use Acronis True Image 2014 and it has worked well for me.

I have not used the later versions.
