I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A:1394 ricoh driver

Update the driver by right clicking on it in the device manager. Let it search your computer for drivers already on it. "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer."

Then pick the one with legacy in its name and you should be good after.

Running under XP-SP2, we want to transfer a video from a Sony TRV7E DV camera to a desktop pc using Pinnacle Studio 9.4 (or 10.5).

Pinnacle tells us that it doesn?t ?see? a DV camera which is probably not switched on.

In fact, when you go into the Device Manager in the Control Panel, the IEEE 1394 controller item is displayed with the clasical black exclamation mark against a yellow background. Thus, the SONY IEEE card (in a PCI slot) is recognized but apparently the proper driver is missing.

We tried to install several drivers through the update driver option. No appropriate driver was found in XP-SP2 nor was any of the drivers we downloaded ok.

Is there any particular driver we could download?

A:IEEE 1394 controller driver

Did you purchase the card separately from the Sony camera? If not, the drivers are probably on a CD provided with the camera (put it in the CD-ROM drive and do an automatic search in update drivers).
If it's a separate card, it too may have come with its own CD, but if not you can probably find the drivers for it by looking on the manufacturer's web site (by searching for model number).

I'm running an IBM t41 Laptop, w/ XP Pro, SP2 - my camera is a new JVC Camcorder (records to 20GB HDD), model GZ-MG27U

I'm trying to do video capture/editing using Pinnacle Sudio Plus 10.

When i plug in the cable i'm using that goes from camcorder into the USB of laptop - this is the cable that JVC provided...I'm guessing USB (USB one one end) advertised as USB 2.0 on JVC Camcorder - I can see the camera HD in "my computer" - however, when i launch the Studio Plus it says it cannot connect to the camcorder - it requires 1394 setting for source, there is no such option. I'm instructed to go to device mgr and look for IEEE 1394 either as an item on its own or under imaging devices...neither show up in device mgr.

I attempted a bios update in order to ensure i have the 1394 driver but no luck

I've read a few posts where the recommendation is to get a "firewire" cable, but as near as i can tell, aside from PCI slots i only have two USB slots on this laptop...so that may be another wrinkle in my problem?

I'm at a loss, can anyone help?

A:Solved: IEEE 1394 driver missing - JVC DV Cam not seen by s/w

Those cams differ from normal mini-dv that use firewire, firewire is different than USB. Basically you have a external harddrive with a lens. I don't know the specifics but you should be able to go into My Computer and just copy and paste the video files from the cam to a folder. Within Studio 8 you should probably be able import them however you would import from any other harddrive on your computer. That's the gist of it but as I said I don't know the specifics. Whatever the case it's going to be something similar, look in the manual.

Dell Precision T3500 – Win 7 SP1 64-bit
Recently I added a StarTech PCIe eSata Controller Card to my system (slot 1 PCIe x 4) to add 2 external eSata ports.

After reboot Win installed the drivers; I did not use the supplied CD for driver install. The manual said that CD is not needed for Win 7.

After reboot to finish installation of drivers, I discovered that none of my Firewire devices (a scanner and an external WD hard drive) were working, nor were they even listed in Device Manager.
Tried to reinstall / update the drivers but got the message that Windows could not install the drivers because the device could not be started (code 10).

Since I need these two 1394 devices, I physically removed the eSata card and restored the system to a point prior to when I last worked with the two devices (they were both working fine then). After restore, the 2 devices still do not work. I was able to “install” them in Device Manager as “Legacy hardware” but they both show with the yellow exclamation mark.
Updating driver results in the message that Windows was not able to install the driver because the device could not start.

After some sleuthing I noticed that my IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controller and LSI 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller are not listed in Device Manager. Adding them as “Legacy hardware” does not work since Device manager does not list any hardware / driver options for that.

Opened MSCONFIG / System Information / Tools tab ... Read more

I am having some issues with the stability provided by the VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE1394 Host Controller on my almost new HP Slimline PC. The Firewire post recognizes my external WD hard drive, but sometimes the drive will simply vanish only to reappear on restart. I'm thought that maybe updating the driver for the VIA Firewire device might just help the device be more stable or resolve my issue. The current driver provided on the pc for the device is dated 6/21/06 Version 6.0.6001.18000. I've searched the net, but can't quite find a updated driver for this VIA Firewire device. Does anyone know where I might be able to download a new driver for the device?

I am making this thread for reference and am sure it will help many users.

Depending on hardware in use, while using MOTU (and perhaps others) professional audio sound interfaces, it may be necessary to use the legacy firewire driver so the audio is smooth without glitches or dropouts.

The problem? Windows 8 does not include the legacy driver like Windows 7 does.

I have posted the solution here, 4th post down:

I am trying to use my Sony DSR-200A (DV) camera to my HP PC via fire wire. I am running Windows 7 Premium Home Edition, 64 bit. The computer does not recognize that anything is plugged in. I have read other threads saying that the fix is to switch to the 1394 ohci compliant host controller legacy driver. I have tried hooking the camera up to another HP computer with the same OS and everything, and it automatically installed the correct driver and recognized the camera! Very frustrating. When I try to switch the driver to the Legacy (on the non-cooperative PC), I get the following message:

"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.

1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy)

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

If you know the manufacturer of your device you can visit its website and check the support section for driver software."

The Sony DSR 200-A is an older camera that I don't believe has any installation disks or anything. I have downloaded all windows updates, including service pack 1, tried Windows Registry Repair (regsofts.com). I contacted FixNow and they remotely connected to my PC and said that the windows registry was messed up. Then they quoted me $200 to fix it. I told them no way. I figured this has to be some simple fix that I don't know of. Please let me know how I can get this HP to recognize the camera.

A:Problem Installing 1394 ohci compliant host controller legacy driver

Ok, so I have attached a registry file that you can install that might do the trick. It resets it so that it works normally. I found this while trying to fix a system that was severely infected with a virus. (Virus removed, executed this file and everything worked fine.) Let us know if it does the same for you.

Let me start from the very begining, I was play Ever Quest 2 when my key board started acting up i found that it was my mouse, when my mouce was in movement the keyboard was inop so if was to use the (W,A,D,S) keys to navigate than use the mouce to move the cursor i would stop movment.

So I decided to test the mouce in safe mode, I and made a big mistake by using msconfig to do so. Well it started an endless loop of chrashing when windows would boot causing the loop to start over. I can however use F8 still which i did to to try and repair my system, it recommended that I use the recovery, that had failed. I than used the F8 last knowen good configuration option to start windows and I am running again, I than when to change the settings in msconfig i had made but i am unable to. When in msconfig under the general tab the "Selective Startup" is selected, under the boot tab the options are normal, safe mode is not selected. However if I select the Normal Startup option under the general tab the safe mode box becomes check under the boot tab and if I uncheck the safe boot box, the Selective Startup option is than selected again under the general tab.

And my dang mouce is still causing the keyboard to be inop when in use.

Thank for any advice you fellas can offer me,

A:[SOLVED] Suspect DNS Isue with Vista

Your Default Gateway is your Router. Unplug the power plug to the Modem and the Router. Plug the power into just the Modem (unless you have a modem/router combo) When all the lights come up, plug in the power to the Router (unless combo of course) Go to Start/Search and type inetcpl.cpl and press enter/Connections/LAN Settings. Make sure all the boxes are unchecked. Now go to Start/Search and type ncpa.cpl and press enter. Right click the Local Area connection/Properties scroll down to Internet Protocol IPV4 (TCP-IP)/Properties. Make sure Obtain an IP Address and DNS Server Address Automatically are both checked. Now go to Start/Search and type CMD right click the Command Prompt link in the Search Results and choose Run As Administrator. IN the Command Prompt type ipconfig /release and press enter. the IP Address changes to 0.0.0.0 Now type ipconfig /flushdns and press enter. Now type ipconfig /renew. Now type ipconfig /all. You should have a new IP address try it again. If you still cannot connect please include the text output of your ipconfig /all in your next post

Are you hot-plugging this drive or booting up while it's connected? While you should be able to hot-plug Firewire, it may be too fussy for some reason.

Nope, there needs to be an application to move the files between the two. The firewire ports are just like the USB port and were only designed to connect peripheral devices to your PC.

I have a laptop, an Acer 1355 LC.

Somehow my 1394 net adapter seems to have disappeared from the devices list. Also, when I look at network connections there's nothing on there for 1394 either.
I wanted to copy some large files back to my PC from the laptop. With a previous laptop I had, when a 1394 cable was between the computers Windows would use that as the transfer method (and get a very quick copy). However, with this Acer laptop no matter what I did the copy would always be over the ethernet.

I tried something suggested on a newsgroup posting about going through the set-up wizard again and when I restarted the laptop the 1394 net adapter was gone from the devices and there was no network connections entry for 1394 either.

I can't find anywhere to re-enable it or even what to select in the Add Connection wizard.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

RS.

Hello,

A hotel has recently opened about 250 metres from where I live and it has wifi internet available. When I am in the hotel my laptop connects to this and the internet works. When I am at my house I notice that under LAN or High Speed Internet there is a 1394 Connection which states TCP/IP not enabled(presumably as a result of the wifi at the hotel - unless this icon has always been there?). Is it possible to somehow use this to connect to the wifi internet at the hotel? When I view available wireless connections at my house it tells me that no wireless connections were found in range.

The reason I am asking is that since the hotel has started operating their wifi internet, the speed of my own E173 Huawei device on contract which picks up 2G has significantly reduced, sometimes taking as long as 15-20 minutes to open small (200kb) email attachments.

It won't affect anything if you don't know what it is. 1394 is also commonly known as Firewire, so if you didn't have a firewire card or ports on the front of your computer for it, you never used it. So it won't affect you in any way.

When I use the device manager and expand Network Adapters I see three devices:
Realtek ... Fast Ethernet NIC
Atheros ... Wireless Network Adapter
1394 Net Adapter
(your system will be different in which are present and the brand names for the devices)

(1) is the wired Network Interface Card / chip
(2) is the WiFi wireless card / chip

But what is the 1394? Can this be used for Internet access? Short answer: no.

The 1394 is a reference to the IEEE 1394 Specification.
This device enables support for Firewire devices, which compete against USB devices.
Typically external HDs come with both USB and 1394 Firewire ports.

Speed: 800MB Max, 400MB/s typical, 200MB nominal on XP

File Sharing: MS KB310433 cites:
Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) over IEEE 1394. This feature makes it very easy to share a single Internet connection when you connect one computer to the Internet and then connect more computers to the first computer. The Windows XP built-in Internet Connection Sharing feature provides the necessary software support. IPX is NOT supported
Unless you have a Firewire device, you can ignore the device and even disable it
to save power (on laptops) and clarify the fact that this device is of no concern ON YOUR system.

A:What is the '1394 Net Adapter'?

I get enough inquiries about firewire to ethernet adapters (mostly from Mac users for some reason) that I suspect some enterprising manufacturer (probably in Asia) will eventually come out with one, much like they did for USB to Ethernet adapters a while ago.

What do you mean by "finding them in CP?". Are those devices not detected in Device Manager?

I have recently noticed upon opening Network Connections in my Contrrol Panel, that there is a connection that only recently appeared. It is called a 1394 Connection. What is this? And, is it needed?

Ok, so I bought a new computer that came with Vista (which I hate but that's another topic ) My old one had a firewire 1394 in it, but I didn't order this one with it to save a few bucks. Can I take it out of the old computer and put it in the new one? Old computer was a Dell Dimension 4600 with XP. New one is Dell Inspiron 530 with Vista.

A:firewire 1394

If it's a PCI card, you can take it out and put it in another computer. If it's built into the motherboard, you can't.

A 1394 port is a firewire port, not an ethernet port. Are you sure you have a network card installed? Are there any unknown devices listed in Device Manager? Did you install drivers for the NIC?

We just bought a camcorder and I want to find some software that will allow me to edit video. The problem I have is that I am not sure if I have all that I need.
I read that I need IEEE 1394 port and when I do a search on my pc it says that it has found it in my Hardware resources under I/O ( I am running XP Pro) and under IRQ's and in Memory as well as under drivers. So does that mean that all I need is the proper cable to hook to the camcorder and pc and all will work???
Sorry if this is a dumb question but this is all new to me and I am a little excited to try this.

Thanks for the help!!

A:IEEE 1394 Help!

Is the IEEE port something I need to buy or does it come with other stuff. I think all I need is the DV cable but want to make sure that when I go to buy it it is all I will need to make this work.

Thanks!

I have upgraded my system to Win7 Ultimate 64bit. I have a JVC GR-D820EK cam with a fire wire connection for down load.

The 1394 card is installed and the current driver is:
windows\system32\drivers\1394 ohci.sys

The device manager tells me all is well.

The cam recorder shows up in devices and current drivers are:
windows\system32\drivers\ksthunk.sys
windows\system32\drivers\msdu.sys

Again listed in devices and printers status OK

My software does not pickup the JVC cam, I am using Corel VideoStudio Pro X4 which picks up my desktop cam which is in the same list.

It worked fine in win7 32bit

Since posting I down loaded some more software, it picked the jvc up but would not play it or record, so I am convinced it is drivers.

I've had a good look round for JVC products, drivers and suchlike including Windows 7's hardware compatibility list (which doesn't show your camcorder) and drawn a blank.

All I can suggest is that you call or e-mail JVC direct.
