Preferred Solution: Windows Update not working - Internet Explorer newly installed June 2016

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi! I have Roadrunner DSL, Linksys WRT54gS V6 router & a laptop running Windows XP SP3. This laptop used to have Windows 7 & the wireless internet worked great but the hard drive crashed so I wiped it clean & installed XP on(eventually want to put 7 back on there but right now I am stuck with XP). I have tried using the Network connection wizard to get the internet set up but it's completely useless. There is no internet icon down in the bottom right corner of the start menu. Linksys couldn't help me because the router is out of warranty, I've tried figuring it out on my own but I am totally stumped.
I'm downloading some drivers from the Linksys website right now but I'm not sure what I am doing or if I'm even downloading the correct drivers. Any help will be very much appreciated!

As a side note, when the laptop is booted using a Knoppix Live CD the wireless internet works great

I went into the device manager and under network adapters it has 1394 Network Adapter with a yellow exclamation mark next to it. My laptop is a Studio 1537 & when I go to Dell's website it doesn't give me the option to download any drivers for XP, only lists Vista drivers. Sorry for being such a noob but I am completely lost

A:Internet not working on newly installed XP

and welcome to the Forum

If Dell does not offer XP drivers, they may be difficult to find ( if you can at all ) You can look at the Dell description for the details of the device and google for drivers.

Also look at this for How to find drivers: http://www.techsupportforum.com/f19/...rs-419050.html

You will save yourself a lot of grief if you install win7

What is the verdict on MSKB3161608 - June 2016 update rollup for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1?

I see that MSKB3161608 includes quite a few patches, including MSKB3161647 - Windows Update Client for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2: June 2016. In the past, I think some people mentioned MS possibly slipping in some Win10 crap with patches to the Windows Update Client.

For Windows 7 SP1 systems that will not be "upgraded" to Windows 10, does MSKB3161608 (or MSKB3161647) include any nasties, Win10 garbage, or MS-suprises?

For Windows 7 SP1 systems that will not be "upgraded" to Windows 10, is MSKB3161608 a recommended install?

A:What is the verdict on MSKB3161608 - June 2016 update rollup?

Hi SevenOfNine

(So, you are referring to Star Trek Voyager)

Actually, you still can upgraded to Windows 10 as this will end on July 2016, as announce.
I refuse to install, as i am used to Windows 7.

I think you can do it, because it keep showing when going to MSN website.
Try it, as it may works.

Sometimes i don't understand why people so like to do update this patch that so on....
When it is good and ready, Windows update will push to your pc, definitely.
You can go > Start --> Windows update, then it pop-up to remind to upgrade to Windows 10 (was downloaded into my pc.)

I recently installed a 190GB Western Digital SSD in my wife's Lenovo G50-45 laptop to replace the old HDD. I cloned the original drive using SATA Wire 3.0 and it ran OK; however, when I tried to run Windows 10 Cumulative Update KB4022716, it goes as far as 45% and just stops. I ran the windows trouble shooter and rebooted, but still had the problem. I talked with a Microsoft Windows tech who took over my PC, but was unable to help and kept asking the same questions over and over. She finally scheduled a call back for tomorrow with a lvel2 tech. I don't have a lot of faith in their tech support. Can anyone advise if this is an issue with the drive or with Windows update?

Hi everyone,

So after about 6 months with my laptop, I started to get an error message that said windows explorer was restarting. At first this happened only at the beginning of my bootup, but then one day it started to repeat every 10 seconds along with a long list of other progams that stopped working (i.e. hkcmd module, persistence module, synaptics touchpad enhancements etc.) I tried practically every remedy on the web and nothing worked. Therefore I decided to do a full vsita reinstall. All my files and programs were deleted and I reinstalled vista. 1 day after this install, I am starting to get the windows explorer restarting message. I am also getting an error that the task scheduler engine has stopped working. Right now these errors only come up when I first start my computer, but I am afraid it will go back to the way it was before I reinstalled vista.

Please help!

Just built a new gaming pc myself, all new parts, first build so maybe there's something I'm not doing right. But I was following this guide for windows 8.1 installation However I decided not to do any of those tweaks under "System Setup after Installation" I just skipped to installing drivers so it's a pretty normal installation. That's just extra information, probably not relevant.
Installed windows 8.1 OEM.
Installed my drivers and I connected to internet but when I try to check for windows updates I get this error
Code: 80072EE2
Looked online for a solution, found one on windows website. I then downloaded WindowsUpdateDiagnostic from another PC and ran it on the PC i'm having issues with, it fixed something but I still can't update.
I also can't open a webpage using internet explorer even thought I'm connected to the internet. When I type any address it just loads "waiting for ..."
I've also noticed that windows is not activated when I try to activate it I get "Windows can't activate. Try again later."
Don't know if relevant but I actually installed Windows the first two times incorrectly, I mean it installed fine but I was trying to install on a GPT formatted SSD (used diskpart with command prompt at windows install window to clean and convert to GPT) but even though I formatted with GPT I kept ending up with a MBR formatted SSD. The problem was I wasn't booting from a UEFI Device. Third time I made sure I did and it worke... Read more

I am having trouble with a custom built windows xp computer. The computer was bringing up the error: Windows cannot start due to the following missing or corrupt file: c:\windows\system32\config\system

Or something along those lines...
So, I have redownloaded windows xp onto the computer but I do not have the disc with the drivers. I cannot connect to the internet using that computer, which is directly connected through an ethernet cable. There is no option for "Network Adaptors" under device manager. But, I cannot seem to find the necessary drivers online to transfer them via usb to the computer.

The motherboard is an MSI CoreCell
AMD Athalon 4000+ Processor
Hitachi Deskstar Hard Drive 250GB
Thank you.

I have a Dell Dimension 4300S and I just recently installed Windows XP Home Edition SP1a Version 2002 from the disk I have. When I try to download SP2 and SP3 from Microsoft I keep getting this box that says "Error Extracting". I can't download anything and sometimes when I'm on the internet on that computer it says "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" and I send the error report and sometimes gives me the Blue Screen and starts dumping memory. Also it will not let me on the Windows Update page and the computer will not do automatic updates.

Does anyone know what the problem is? I've reinstalled Windows XP Home Edition SP1a Version 2002 two or three times now and ran repairs from the disk and I still get the same problems.

Let me know if I need to give any specs or anything.

My laptops IE7 and Firefox stopped working, I rebuilt the laptop and installed SP3 and browsers worked again, after applying windows updates the browser is unable to connect to websites and times out with connection problem.
I also tried updating to IE8, but the same thing happened. If I rollback with system restore everything works again. all of the updates starting 94xx are ok.

I am unable to identify which update is doing this has anyone else experienced this ?

I think it must have been one of the latest patches this week that broke it. Any help withthis is appreciated.

A:Internet explorer not working after windows update

I had similar problem but finally figured it out.

My issue was with Windows Zero Configuration Service after install of SP3. Just had to restart the service manually from control panel and BOOM, internet works. This particular problem happens mostly on wireless network adapters (mine is a d-link DWA-110 adapter).

Other services you should restart = DHCP! This was the root cause of the problem due to a conflict with Zero Configuration i think. Freakin MS, can't even get their own modules working properly together

If this does not work please do reply i will provide u with some other solution

I recently purchased a refurbished Win-7 Professional system. The system as purchased was the 64 bit version, but since much of the software I use is very old, and won't run in a 64 bit system, I immediately reinstalled the 32 bit version of Win-7 Pro. Everything went fine, and the system has been activated with no problems.

But, when I went to the Windows Update function from the control panel, I discovered that I can't reset the update policy from the default Automatic Update to my preferred setting of "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them". The Change Settings page displays a highlighted line "Some settings are managed by your system administrator".

Problem is, I am the only administrator/user of the system. It is connected to my own local network, and will be entirely dedicated to typical home use. The only account on the system is the account that was established as part of the initial setup.

So, what do I have to do to establish full control of my own system. I am very concerned that there may be other "Administrator Only" settings to be tripped over. Curiously, the UAC settings are unrestricted.

So I cannot open any programs or do anything except CNTRL ALT DEL to shut down or restart. I tried to do a restore in safe mode - didn't work. Then I tried to re-install XP in repair mode, and I kept getting error messages that certain (multiple) files could not be copied. In the end, the repair installation was unsuccessful. So, I did a complete new install of Windows XP to a new folder (c:\windows2). This install worked fine. Now there are 2 versions of XP on my computer and when I boot up I have to choose which one to use. My question is regarding the programs that were already installed, such as MS Office, Norton Anti-Virus, Family Tree Maker etc. How do I get the newly installed XP to recognize these programs which were previously used by the now dysfunctional XP? When the new XP starts and I click on programs, none of the programs installed on the computer are listed. How do I pull them in to the new XP? If I re-install the programs then I won't have my data saved in the previous versio... Read more

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file

I'm working with Windows 10 LTSB 2016
The issue I'm having is the IE keeps crashing at startup.  IE will go to not responding and will ultimately exit with no errors in the application event log.  I cannot get it to open a single time.

I'm interested in how to enable logging to see if I can figure out what the issue it.  So far we have tried starting IE safe mode and it didn't help.

Visio files are received as attachments in Outlook 2016. Visio Viewer 2016 and IE11 are also installed on Windows 10 (1607).
Previewing the Visio file (VSD in this case) is successful. However, when you try to open the Visio file, IE11 attempts to open it (as expected) but only displays a blank page.
Does anyone know if there is a fix for this issue?   Other articles suggest that Visio Viewer 2016 does not support IE11.

The story: We just switched our service over to Time Warner's RoadRunner cable Internet from AT&T's U-Verse DSL (was supposedly 6 MB/s). We signed up for and will be paying for Time Warner's fastest service, which is supposedly 15 MB/s.

I tested it with speedtest.net the first day, running no applications or anything, and the thing topped out at 6 MB/s. After hours of technical support, they came out and replaced their Motorola Surfboard modem with a Scientific Atlanta modem using our own brand new Belkin N router. The connection still only gets 5 MB/s.

The technician himself tried it and only got 7 MB/s, explaining that since we live in an apartment building with "kids downloading MP3s and movies" this is to be expected.

Still, why advertise 15 MB/s if you can't deliver? Additionally, should we downgrade our service and then get less MB/s than that connection's advertised speed?

A:Newly installed system hangs as soon as connevted to internet through modem

Hello & Welcome to Tech Guy Forum.

"installed my sytem formatting all d drives completely"
Does that mean that you formatted all of the drives, or you formatted only the "D" drive?

Which virus[es]? There are some rare viruses that are not removed by a reformat. They are called boot sector viruses?

After reformatting & re-installing, you had to re-activate Windows. Were you able to activate Windows? If so, how? Over the internet? Over the phone? If the internet, when did your problem of NOT being able to access the internet begin?

Which version of Windows have you?
RIGHT click "computer" or "my computer"
Left click "properties"

Go to control panel. If, in the upper left, you see "switch to classic view", click on it.
Open "system properties" or "system"
Hardware tab
Device manager button
Send a screen shot.

How to create a screen shot.
Creating a screen shot requires:
1. a keyboard with a key labeled "Print Screen". This may be abbreviated "PrtScn", "PrntScn", or some other variation. It is usually to the right of

the F12 key
2. a destination program. Microsoft WordPad, and Paint, which are built into Windows 95 and beyond, as well as Microsoft Word, not a part of

Windows will suffice. My favorite is Paint, because it provides the greatest versatility. Paint saves images, by default, as bitmap files [ .bmp ],

which are... Read more
