Slow PC, Slow Internet, JS/Agent Found, and odd sounds

Q: Slow PC, Slow Internet, JS/Agent Found, and odd sounds

Hi, Recently computer has slowed drastically, CPU showing high usage even when I am not doing stuff, Windows sounds like "da-ding" going off alot for no apparent reason. JS/Agent Detected and Quarantined 4 separate occasions by AVG in last 2 weeks. Am attaching DDS logs and the GMER log, as per preparation topic. Note GMER did not allow me to select alot of the checked boxes, that showed in prep page, they were greyed out and unclickable.

DDS Log

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi, hope you can help ! The pc, (windows xp) has been running unbelievably slow for the last couple of days and a spybot scan revealed win32.agent.bzs as a trojan. Spybot deleted it but I immediately ran another scan with spybot & it was still there. Nothing else has picked it up in a scan & google hasn't produced anything specific to help. So, I'm not sure if it's a false positive or something I need to worry about. Here is my hijack this log, I hope someone has time to have a look at it for me, or if anyone has suggestions on another way to proceed I would be very grateful.

I thought there might be a problem with my system because it has been running very slow. Also, I tried to install a new printer driver and it kept failing with the error that it could not open a system file. I ran a scan with Malware Bytes and found the Rootkit.Agent.H virus. Malware Bytes was able to delete the virus. I then tried to run DDS and was unable to. I then ran rkill and was still unable to run DDS. I was able to run GMER and have attached the results.

Thanks

I tried to install HiJack This and I am getting an error message that says "The System Administrator Has Set Policies to Prevent This Installation". I went through my files and found an old copy of HiJack This already installed on my system and was able to run it. Here are the results:

In last two days my AVG AV system discovers Trojan horses - Rootkit-Agent.CW, Agent 2.ERC and Agent_r.MU. It also found HTML/Framer.

It seems they appear when I do scans against them (e.g. MBAM, Panda, etc)!
I place them in the AVG vault, but they reappear.

Hello,
I am an intern and have a computer that i bring with me to work. My university has given me some antiivirus software, but one day my computer started playing strange ads for Lysol, the Army and other places all on its own. Task manager/process explorer shows nothing running out of the ordinary, so following the lead from a previous post, http://forums.techguy.org/virus-other-malware-removal/942516-unwanted-sound-advertisements-playing-laptop.html.

I have included the Hijackthis log, the Hijackthis Uninstall list and the MBRCheck log.

For some odd reason, in the past 4 weeks, my streaming video has become VERY slow, and I do not know why. I have a high-speed cable connection, the same I have had for the past 6 months. It is slow, sound-with-stil-images and/or constantly rebuffering, and this is true with WIndows Media, Winamp, Realplayer and even Flash videos (on YouTube for example). I cannot take it anymore. Hello BC

Over the last couple of months all browsers on my PC were running really slowly. Download and gaming speeds were fine. I looked at firewall exceptions and my connections but these did not seem to be the problem (other PCs on the network were fine, I disabled all firewalls and there was still an issue). I attach a screenshot of the error message that pops up after a site is unable to load. Please note that heavy image pages are worst effected, google searches are instantaneous as are cached websites.

As far as I can tell I have experienced no other adverse effect on my PC's performance.

I ran some scans this morning and I got some hits. I stupidly didn't save any logs, but spybot found a "win 32 downloader gen". I then ran:

Malwarebytes scan (no hits)
Adw cleaner (some hits)
Roguekiller (some hits- Hidden Ads)
Hitman Pro (no hits)

It seems the browsing speed is marginally better but am still concerned as to hidden infections. I attach my most recent logs.

Many thanks in advance for any help.

My internet is running slow on my desktop. I have a wireless router and all wireless devices(laptop, xbox) has good internet connection. But on my desktop internet is really slow. For any site to load I have to do a continues ping to the site. If not then download gets stuck after certain kilobytes. I tried with 3 different browsers, IE8-Crome-Firefox. Same results.

- I have AVG anit-virus Free. I did full scan no virus found.
- Ran Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware - found nothing.
- Ran spy-bot search and distroy - found nothing.

Then I found this site. I followed the first step. Was able to get the DDS.txt & Attach.txt. But was NOT able to get ark.txt, because gmer.exe would get stuck. when I run gmer.exe, it freezes my computer or restarts my computer. I have tried running gmer.exe both ways: 1st) with all checked except "IAT/EAT" & 2nd) with only "Sections" checked. Got same results -> Either it would freeze or restart my computer. Below is my DDS.txt. And attached in .zip is just Attach.txt.

Please help!! It is some form of Malware, spyware or virus because I had this issue before and previously Windows Malicious Remover detected and removed it. But now nothing is being detected. HELP!!!

While navigation on Internet Explorer or Google Chrome, system runs extrememly slow and/or crashes. When using applications such as Itunes, Email, or simply opening up Word and other applications, it runs very slow and almost seems to stop. The IE7 that was on the computer had changed to an operate with add-ons off as a result of the infection. I downloaded and reinstalled IE7 and this seems to have fixed that problem for the time being. MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpy icons dissappeared from my desktop. When trying to use them from the Start / Menu options the programs no longer worked. I reinstalled them and they appear to work fine now. However, the system still seems to run very slow over all and its performance is greatly hindered.

Next, I ran free version of SuperAntiSpyware and all it detected was a couple Adware cookies. Secondly, I ran free version of Malware Bytes Anti-Malware and it detected PUP.GamePlayLab infections located in the Registry Key: HKLM\SOFTGWARE\Microsoft\Windows.... These files were removed and quarantined by MWB. Thirdly, I ran Old Timer's TFC and then rebooted the computer and it appeared to run a little faster, but still sluggish while using IE7. So, finally, I ran ESET Free Online Scanner, and it detected "Win32/Toolbar.Babylon and Win32/TopMedia.a" virus infections. Scan took about 2 1/2 hours. I set it to search the drives/ar... Read more

Hi, for the passed couple of week my computer has been driving me crazy. I figured I would wait a while and maybe it would sort itself out, but of course it hasn't.

The main problem is web browsing speeds. It's very strange and I don't think it has to do with the ISP, because the internet runs perfectly fast and fine for a few minutes when i start my PC up, but then all of a sudden it bogs down. It takes two minutes to load the techsupport site whiles it's slow. After being slow for a while it will pick up speed for a few minutes randomly, then two minutes later go back to being slow.

Sigh, Anyway, I'm not sure if it's all that spyware found in the activescan or what. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Activescan is attached to the file.

Here's the hijack log.

Hi MaryJane,Sorry for the delay, this forum is really swamped right now. I don't see any positive signs of malware in your log, although there is one thing that I am unsure about. I'll get to that in a minute. Before we do rootkit scans and use some other tools to confirm that malware is not the problem, let's do a quick check of resources.Press <Ctrl>-<Alt>-<Del> to open Task Manager, then click on the Processes tab. Place a check next to Show processes from all users. Note the numbers at the bottom, CPU usage should be running at 0 to no more than five percent if your system is idle (no background tasks running). If that is not the case, scroll down and see if any of the processes is running at a high percentage of CPU usage. On a normal system at idle the System Idle Process should show about 98 percent, meaning nothing else is using the CPU. The next columns to the right, memory usage and peak memory usage, may also show something out of line if one process is using a large amount of memory. If you see anything showing high CPU usage or high Memory usage, make a note of it.Now, click the Performance tab. The key numbers here are in the Commit Charge box -- The Total and Peak figures; and in the Physical Memory box, the Total figure. Make a note of these three numbers. I would like to see them, but I can tell you what I'm looking for: basically, any time the Commit Charge exceeds the total physical memory, Windows will have to constantly swap d... Read more

My computer has been slightly slower than usual...and when checking the McAfee site it stated that the 6 trojans found were that of a low threat....I'm just double checking that it didn't miss anything because my computer's been kinda slower on loading internet pages since the scan. I am aware Mcafee is not the best tool for scanning but my folks paid for my computer and the program came with it. I have to keep it til it expires. Also any advice for site advisor's that tell you which sites have viruses? Mcafee's is useless.

PII 300mhz 4mb onboard, 192mb ram, SB PCI 128 sound card.

whenever i play a sound, it delays for like 2 seconds till it plays it. its annoying, cause when im on iexplorer, the little blip always slows my net xpierience...when i play a song, it takes 2 seconds to start.......is it my comp, or my sound card?

A:Slow sounds

Run windows update - there is a sound/IE fix for windows 98

You can also try finding an updated sound driver and updating your directx version to 8.1 or 9.0

It could also be a problem with too much stuff running in the background. Try running MSCONFIG from RUN and disable some stuff in STARTUP. if you stuff like Real, WInamp, ICQ, etc in startup that affects system performance - remove them from startup and launch them only when needed.

Thanks guys, I haven't done this in awhile so please bear with me...

After an older system of mine seemed to suddenly slow down and a current Symantec scan came up with nothing I ran Housecall on my system. Housecall found Adware_aeropopups and Adware_memwatcher before Housecall itself slowed down to nothing and died. I could not use Housecall to clean the malware/spyware cookies. I ran the Java Housecall plug-in; not the ActiveX. I then ran defrag and that helped some for the system so it seemed. However, the internet is stll quite slow on many occasions.

I ran Hijackthis and have pasted the log below along with a few system details. I only see GoogleDesktop in the log below as a potential problem. Please help! Everything else seems normal to my untrained eye. I will try adaware next if it is still free to use.

I'm running Windows XP Pro SP3 and IE 7.0.5730.11
I run Symantec Norton AV and have installed Avast in an effort to access another AV library. I know they will conflict from time to time and will remove one of them later.

Hey all I just wanted to know if integrated sound slows your PC because I know that integrated graphics leeches off your system RAM. Im planning on building a new computer and I dont wanna spend more than I have to if it wont affect performance. Thanks. Also I wanted to know if a 400w power supply would be sufficient for this system:

GIGABYTE GA-M61SME-S2
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 3.0GHz Socket AM2
Radeon X1950GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16
Transcend 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
Western Digital Caviar RE WD1600YS 160GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s
PHILIPS 20X DVD±R DVD Burner

Dont know if ya need all that info but just let me know what yall think I would need to run the whole system. Thanks again.

A:Does Integrated sounds slow your PC?

I'd go with a 500W power supply (and an Intel processor, but hey, that's just me). Integrated sound won't hurt performance.

A:Not Again! Slow PC, Slow Start Up, Slow Outside of Internet

Hello justanotherguy,

You continue to get reinfected because you are still running unpatched XP.

IMPORTANT!:
Before we can proceed any further, please visit the Microsoft's Windows Update Page and install ALL Critical Updates for your system (except service pack 2 (SP2). SP2 should only be installed on a fully disinfected system.) At the minimum install at least SP1a for both XP and IE6. Without these updates your system is wide open to re-infection and we are both wasting our efforts to clean your system. After we have completed your clean-up, we will have you return to the Windows Update page and install SP2. We will also then advise you on how to better protect yourself online.

Please apply those updates BEFORE posting your next log. It is this forum's policy to stop the disinfection process until these basic updates are done. If during the updating process you get a message that your product key is invalid ....then you may not have a legitimate copy of Windows XP. Unfortunately it?s also this forums policy that we only address users with a legal copy of Windows XP.... therefore if you can not update Windows XP to SP1 we must stop the cleansing process here.

**Note** If you're having trouble locating the service pack SP1a here is a direct link to download it from.

Hi The computer  that is slow is a desk top tower. In a home.  it is a E machine.
it has windows 7  professional  with service pack 1
DO KNOW :  I am very new to windows 7 and all it's features.
When I brought this computer home  last Nov. it was lightening fast at everything! so much better than  the windows XP  it replaced, I was thrilled.  yet Now starting in  April 2015  it is as slow  or slower  as my old Windows with XP ever was  ( and partially the reason for saving my  pennies to get this windows 7 computer)...and  now I'm upset. feeling  like I have been taken.

Computer displays the following :
3.8 windows experience index
Intel pentium dual 2.0Ghz  processor
64 Bit

Has Ccleaner installed
has Comodo antivirus and Comodo cleaning essentials installed.
All virus scans  find no infections,  and report that all is well and protected.  ( B/C of the way the computer is operating i'm doubting that and betting there is an infections of some sort)

I Have run Comodo cleaning essentials and  results find no abnormalities or infections.
Have run TFC and JRT  and the computer shows no signs of improvement.
have run rKill  and it  finds  no abnormalities  or infections.
All virus scan results  find no infections.

Hi flywelder Maybe we aren't looking at an infection here. There's tons of reasons why a system can slow down, and not all of them are malware related. Let's try to take a look at this issue under another angle shall we?MiniToolBoxDownload MiniToolBox and move the executable file to your Desktop;Execute MiniToolBox and check the following options:List Installed Programs;List Last 10 Event Viewer Errors;List Devices - Only Problems;List Users, Partitions and Memory size;Once this is done, click on Go and wait for the scan to complete;Once the scan is complete, a log will open. Hello Techspot!!!!

I have had my laptop for nearly 3 years but I wouldn't deem it to be a poor performance laptop. Recently I have been getting slow internet, poor keyboard response and slow scrolling, and it is very frustrating!!! I share the BT 3 homehub with good connection speed which was checked and found fine! My housemates laptop has started having the same problem as mine and I really want to fix this issue. The internet, keyboard and scrolling speeds vary everyday but overall are slow performers. I have looked through some of the threads and have seen people posting long threads of code etc :/ Is there anyone out there who has the time and patience to help me fix this problem? It would be most appreciated!!!

Many Thanks

Dan

and any extra router attached.
Is this a rather new ISP for you and/or are the PCs newish or older ones?

Did you every have good response? HOW long ago?

Hi, One thing sticks out, but there are a lot of other things starting up, you do need to trim startups some...

You have two antivirus programs, Norton and AVG, are both active in the background, starting when the computer does? That alone will cause you problems....use one or the other, save the second, but set it to not run at all when the computer starts...you can do this inside the program itself in almost all cases...look in Options or Settings for the things that are checked to let the program start up and monitor in the background (active protection) and set the one disabled.

I know some folks that work a lot with startup items...you will probably be hearing from some with help for that.

I tried running Copernic a few years ago on what today is an outdated machine and it really bogged things down...used to use a lot of resources that could be better used elsewhere.

So yeah, I've these problems for the past couple days. My browsers (Opera and Firefox) used to load pages quickly, but now they're painfully slow. Opera lags and freezes often; Firefox doesn't, but it still takes a very long time to load pages.

I'm also getting these occasional "invisible ads," even when I don't have a browser open. I can hear the ads but I can't see them.

Also, I sometimes get redirected to unwanted sites. This mostly happens when I click on a search result in Google.

Here are some things I've done:

-Ran SUPERantispyware (I can post the log(s) if needed)
-Defragged hard drive
-Cleaned cache, cookies, etc. on both browsers

Hello Tienjt,

Scan your computer again, this time using Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes Anti Malware as posted in the links below:-

Download CCleaner to get rid of temp files - it will make the antivirus scans go faster :-)
Download CCleaner 3.20.1750 - FileHippo.com

Download Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) from here:
Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows

Download the updates for MSE from here:
Install the latest Microsoft Security Essentials definition updates - Get the latest definitions - Microsoft Malware Protection Center

Download malwarebytes from here:
Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.62 - FileHippo.com

And the malwarebytes updates from here:

hi all,

it's been a long time since I have had to post something about my problems in these forums. Well over a year as I have had my laptop for over a year now. This may seem like a similar thread to most that have been put up recently but I think it is quite different.

Ever since I have upgraded to IE8 I have noticed Vista be very slow. It could be to do with IE8 but I think that the slowness of my machine has been since before then...according to my wife. Has her facebook shennanegans broken the laptop???!

Here is a list of problems I am getting:
Long start up times. They aren't bothering me that much, just seem to be a bit longer than normal.
Very long time from when Vista has loaded and I can actually do somehting (15 minutes just now to access an mp3 on my desktop and it kept skipping for about 5 minutes before it stops skipping and playing the track normally)
Extremely slow at logging onto the internet. I mean that it takes minutes, literally minutes for IE8 to even display the very first internet page. After that it is slow, but not as bad...still frustrating though.
Changing between programs seems to take a few seconds.
Accessing my computer or my documents is like a game of russian roulette, will it let me or won't it.....£900 on it won't!!!!
On mp3 tracks, if you go back to a certain point in the track it will take a few seconds to actually complete the task

I have about 26gig free on my hard drive. But about 80 gig is used up for phot... Read more

Hello all,
My computer has recently become infected. I've scanned with Malwarebyte's Antimalware, Norton Internet Security, and SuperAntiSpyware. Norton didn't show any results, but Antimalware and Superantispyware both removed a decent amount of items, however I do not think my computer is entirely clean. Whenever I open Firefox, if it even opens, all of my google searches get redirected to different sites. The only site I remember being directed to was zanuga.com, but there were others. This also happens on IE8. I've tried opening Firefox in safemode, and I get the same redirects. I've posted my HiJack This log below.

Oh, and also, I've noticed the creation of HelpAssistant and HelpAssistant.desktop folders in my Documents and Settings directory.

Happy Holidays,
TRBMan

Hi there!

I upgraded my sons graphics card for Christmas to a Geforce gtx 960 and I have had a few problems I'm hoping I can get some help/direction here.

I originally purchased a gtx 950 and we were running into problems with no signal and other issues. One of them was that the wireless adapter all of a sudden was not working. I tried a few things I found on the web to solve it and one of them was to factory reset the computer. I did this and it didn't work. We ended up hooking it up to an earthernet cord and it then the adapter started working.

We returned this graphics card and purchased the one above (960) just a slight upgrade.

After installing this card and a new power supply we noticed the computer seems to run slower and always sounds like it is always "loading". My son expressed he has been experiencing problems watching youtube also.

Should I do another factory reset? Or any other suggestions as to what I can research?

Hello, i'll be grateful if you could help us with a problem that we are having with our laptops at home. Let me to explain you, my wife have his own laptop at home, as I have mine laptop too, both of the computers share a wi-fi internet conection. I'm not sure of what's going on but the internet conection it's extremely slowly, sometimes when we reboot our laptops there is no internet conection. According to our ISP there's no problem with the internet conection, they said it could be something with the laptops.

Now, It's true that the two laptops are more slowly, specially my wife's laptop, it takes too long for any processes, I always take a look to the running processes and it seems like there are too much process always but I'm not sure of what is good and whats isn't.

I decided to attach The HiJack log from my wife's laptop, maybe with this you could help us to figure out what's going on.

Thanks for your time!
