Hi, how are you?  I am posting here because my error is 0xC1900101 0x30018 (see pic).  I get "stuck" on 40% overall and 23% of installing features and drivers.  I say "stuck" because the inner percentage circle breathes but nothing happens past those percentages.

I have an Asus laptop running Windows 7 Home 64-bit on a Samsung SSD.  I read other forums to turn off antivirus - so I permanently turned all of Norton off but no luck

Upgrading a Windows 8.1 installation and it stuck at getting devices ready at 2%. No BSOD. Has to be specific to 8.1 as I have already installed 10 on a clean partition with no issues on this machine. All drivers up to date. Did try removing Avast. No wireless devices attached. Not really bothered but an upgrade would save a few hours. Tried it twice and it sticks in the same place "Getting devices ready 2%" A reboot restores previous OS.
There is a lot written about this error applying to Windows 8 and wireless devices in laptops....this is a huge desktop machine.

A:Windows 10 Error code 0xc1900101-0x30018

I suppose when it ran the compatibility checker, it showed no problems?

There was a time when Bluetooth devices caused problems. If you have any, you might try disabling them in the Bios.

I have not done an install over 8.1. The one time I tried, it said it could not with Media Center installed, so I stopped.

No log files left after the failed attempt?

Hi All.

I am a Mac user, but bought a PC on craigslist, that had windows Windows 7 on it. I am trying to upgrade it to Windows 10 and it is failing every time. I have downloaded the update package and installed that way and it fails at 32% of total install, approx 12% of installing drivers and features. I have done quite a bit of reading on the subject so i have tried the following:

-removed all unnecessary hardware
-rolled back drivers
-update to newest drivers
-removed antivirus
-removed all aftermarket software
-attempted upgrade by installing via flash drive and by disc

there are probably others that i cannot recall in my frustration.

i have read about a video card causing issues. The mobo does not have onboard video and this machine has a GeForce 8600 GTS SLI, without the 2nd card installed.

not sure if it is worth buying a cheap card to install to see if that is the issue...
y
i am sure i will recall other specifics once we start some conversation here, but i would greatly appreciate your help. My intent is to donate this machine so i want to ensure it is working properly so i do not have to offer free tech advice in the future that i am not qualified to give.

Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays

I have a brand new XPS 13, 9343 model with i7 processor and 512GB SSD. I am still within the 14 day cooling off period, and I'm now seriously considering returning it. I have never experienced such a load of nonsense trying to install any other piece of software.
So far, and after many attempts, I've been totally unable to upgrade to Windows 10. The very first thing I did was install all available Windows updates for 8.1 (there were 79 of them), and immediately after that I began the Win10 install saga. Nothing else has been done to the laptop - no dodgy software or USB devices (other than the boot USB where necessary). It is in a clean state.
- After downloading through Windows Update, the installation procedure is INCREDIBLY slow (eg it takes 36 HOURS to reach 42% completion - and at this point it hits the error message). What on earth can it be doing??
- I also tried creating a bootable USB through the media creation tool. If I boot from this USB drive and perform a "clean" install, this works perfectly - it takes about 8 minutes in total (which emphasises how ridiculous the 36 hours is). However, because it is a clean install and not an "upgrade", I end up with a non-activated version of Windows 10 and I get prompted to pay £99.99, which I have no intention of doing. I paid for the laptop on the understanding it would get a FREE upgrade to Win10!
- I have also tried using the USB (but not booting from it) to perform the in-place upgrade -... Read more

Please help,
I have a a XPS 13, 9333 originally delivered with Ubuntu but I need to run Windows 10on it.
So far, and after many attempts, I've been totally unable to install Windows 10. I am subscribed to MSDN so i downloaded the Win 10 installer with a new registration key.
Trying to install Win 10 booting from USB stops midway (black screen for hours).

I was able to install windows 7. Then I tried to upgrade to Win 10 running setup from it.
1st phase (file copying) OK.
2nd phase (driver installation) halts at 25% (40% total) and reboots recovering windows 7 and showing Error 0xC1900101 0x30018 t failed in operation "FIRST_BOOT", ... SYSPREP at startup.
Windows 7 installation from which I start is a clean one, no AV, no apps, nohing.
Any idea anybody?

Thanks
Stefano

Hey,

I've tried to install the Win 8.1 Update via the Windows Store and got the 0xc1900101 - 0x30018 several times after the PC restarted at the ending of the update.

I know that several users solved this with disabling drivers, so I did some suggestions I've found.

1. Disabling AV (Kaspersky)

2. Disabling LAN Controllers

3. Uninstalling DAEMON Tools, TuneUp

4.

--> DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

--> sfc /scannow

--> wsreset.exe

5. Trying to repair Windows Update itself via "WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab"

6. Disabling AIDA

7. Disabling all components from my ASUS motherboard

some other things I can't remember...

For your information, I don't want to install Windows 8.1 from scratch, as I have too many programs and I never had problems with installing an OS for this system (Win7, Win8).

Thanks for the help

Hello to all,

bought a new Sattelite Pro C850-1MX (PSCBZE 00M009GR) in december 2013. System is running almost unchanged to delivery state. Yet installed OpenOffice, Firefox and AdobeReader in most actual versions. And updated driver for AMD-GPU to latest version. No other changes done.

Now tried to upgrade to Windows 8.1 via Windows-App-Store. Download was done, upgrade run, reboot, installing changes, preparing devices --> reboot, rollback to 8.0 with error code 0xC1900101-0x30018.

Searched internet for solutions: Toshiba sais
- update all Toshiba-components via TOSHIBA Service Station --> done
- (Link: [http://www.toshiba.de/innovation/generic/windows8_1-upgrade-stepbystep/]): deinstall some components: esp. LAN/WLAN-driver.

Hmmm...if I do so I cannot access Windows App-Store to rerun the upgrade because i have no network-connection. Stupid...

- Why can?t I upgrade an almost unchanged system because of some driver-uncompatibilities where i didnt change anything from delivery state???

Please state any hint/solution. Thanks!
Mark

This error message appears because of some not compatible drivers and tools which are already preinstalled on Windows 8 system.

This issue has been reported many times here in the forum and was solved as reported by user harrie_1 at 12-Jan-2014
Look into this thread: http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=74631

Check what drivers has to be uninstalled in Appendix A
[How to Update from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1|http://support.toshiba.com/sscontent?contentId=4003162]

+What important is to remove the internet connection.+
+Only use to download 8.1 then disconnect (also Lan cable)+
+After starting Win 8.1 for the first time do not connect to the internet.+

+On another pc download first the drivers for 8.1 audio, realtek wlan and bluetooth and display driver.+
+Install and restart after this when de system is stable you can connect to internet and download the windows updates.+

Hey guys,

I've been having a problem with upgrading to Windows 10. I've tried using the tool both by running it on my PC and putting it on a USB. It gets through the first part of copying files and does the first reboot, then it starts back to the screen and the Installing Features and Drivers sits at 0% for a few seconds then resets and restores my old version with this error:

0xC1900101 - 0x30018 - The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with the error during SYSPREP operation.

When I originally looked this error up I read that it might be an encryption error so I decrypted both of my drives, ran the install again.. Same error. So now I am at a complete loss as to what to do so I can get myself upgraded.

System:

Windows 8.1 Pro x64
Mobo: ASUS ROG Maximus VII Hero
PCU: Intel i7 4790k 4.00 GHz
GPU: ASUS ROG MARS760x2 (2 GTX 760 chips on one card)
RAM: 16GB DDR3

Please let me know if you have any info or advice as to how I can fix or workaround this issue.

Thanks,

Hoffmann

So here is whats going on. Windows 8.1 failed to install. It would download, install, restart, install some more, restart, and then when it got to the updating devices or whatever it was exactly, it would error with 0xC1900101 - 0x30018. I found threads that pointed the issue to being wireless card issues. I tried updating the drivers before install, no go. The only thing that worked was disabling the card in the BIOS (I actually just ripped the damn thing out, but it works the same). So finally got windows 8.1 installed. Went to put my wireless card back in, booted up, almost instant frowny face blue screen. So 8.1 broke my wireless capability all together. If anyone has any ideas or knows how to fix this I would appreciate it. Otherwise it looks like I will just have to wait for microsoft to fix their default drivers or whatever they did. FYI, i have a ASUS Dual-band PCE-N35 wireless card.

Windows 10 1511 will not update to 1607 by any method. Updates always complete to 100% then revert. Computer is a Dell Vostro 1720.

Background: The computer never appeared to update automatically, but there was never any error code. I tried to use the Windows 10 upgrade assistant. The upgrade would go through download and install to 100% but then restart back to version 1511 with no error message. Finally, I downloaded the 1607 iso, extracted it to my hard disk, and installed from there. Again the update went to 100% and then reverted back to 1511, but this time it gave the error message 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 "The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation."

I have found several threads about this error, and it seems most likely that there is a driver conflict of some kind. I have looked at the setuperr.log from $WINDOWS.~BT/Sources/Panther/ directory but I do not see what is causing the error. Can anyone help with guidance on this?

My laptop just popped up with the update for w10 home edition to the new anniversary edition. I ran the update and after all was said and done (no obvious errors or messages) I got the message that an error occurred and the error code was 0x80010108.... I tried again a couple of times with the immediate result produced the same error message. Any help you folks can give would be greatly appreciated. My desktop is running W10 Professional and I have been waiting for the anniversary edition for it to pop up. Now I'm not so sure I want it now as much as I did before the error on the laptop! Any help would be appreciated.

I am trying to update to Anniversary edition of Windows 10 on 32GB ASUS Tablet. The update to 1511 went just fine. Now I am getting error when trying to upgrade to 1607 using Windows10Upgrade.28084. It checks compatibility and CPU, Memory and disc capacity all show good. Then get the page which shows error code 0x80070070 and states not enough space to install and suggests disc cleanup. Did that and have 18.0GB free space. But it will not let me download and install the upgrade. I do not have any apps running which I can remove. Surely 18GB is enough space. Please respond with a fix for me. Tablet is running 32bit OS

I don't know if 18 GB is enough space but I have some other advice for you. I don't know if this will completely solve your problem but the Windows10upgrade28084.exe is giving everyone problems. Try downloading the ISO to your desktop and then move it to a USB thumb drive. Uninstall any 3rd part AV and after rebooting do an in place upgrade. That worked for me. Always back up you data or better yet make a full back up of the entire drive if possible. You can search the other forum posts for where to download the ISO and doing an in place upgrade. Don't do a clean install unless you want to reinstall all your app and data.

Just in case anyone is wondering, the 755 works with Windows 10 Anniversary Edition, both 32 and 64 bit.
The current configuration is 6 gig memory.
The only deficiency, and it has nothing to do with Windows 10 and is not a deficiency for most, is that the DTR and RTS lines are locked on and can not be controlled on the onboard serial port.
This only matters since I use them in an amateur radio application where they control a transmitter.
The workaround is a FTDI USB serial port which works just fine and which costs $15 at electronic distributors like Mouser and Digikey.

We got about 6 of them running in the lab they have AMD HD5450 cards and 4 GB of RAM.

I'm trying to download the Windows 10 Anniversary edition, I get error messages like ?Something went wrong. Couldn?t download Windows 10. Check your network settings, and try again.?

And when I try the Media creation tool, it appears to begin downloading, and stays on ?progress 0%? for a half hour or more, until I cancel it.

Help!

A:Trouble downloading Windows 10 Anniversary edition

Download the ISO, not the creation tool. Windows 10 ISO If it is not working for the tool, it can be third party security software causing the issue.

Make sure that you go through and turn off all of the Telmetrics stuff and change in updates to not reboot when you get the ISO installed as a Clean Install. Just make sure that you back up your system before doing the install, along with have all of your product licenses to reinstall the software.

If you wish to store your documents and other stuff off site if you do not have a Pocket Drive, Amazon allows you 30 days free for their unlimited Cloud Service. Well worth the price for the long term to keep photos on there.

I have held off going from Win 7 to Win 10 for a number of reasons, including several hardware upgrades over the last 6 months. (I actually have one more hardware upgrade I would like to do, going to a M.2 drive once a 500 GB drive comes out, which may or may not happen soon.) Not in a hurry as Win 7 is working fine.

So, browsing this forum occasionally, I see the Windows 10 Anniversary Update is coming out soon-ish, no firm date. Plus, the end of the "free" upgrade period is also coming up.

Is there any advantage to waiting and seeing if the Windows 10 Anniversary Update comes out first, and performing the upgrade on that version as opposed to doing an upgrade now, and then updating with the anniversary edition? It is possible that the free upgrade period could be extended a bit as well (not starting a rumor, just thinking) that could allow this to happen.

A:Upgrade from Win 7 and Windows 10 Anniversary Update edition

Perhaps, upgrade now and get to know how Windows 10 works, so that by the time " anniversary update" comes along, you will enjoy it more.

Free upgrade period appears to be unchanged, at least for now. Nothing is definite. Never say never.

This laptop is new for me, purchased in June this year.  Since the update, the sound quality has been poor; very scratchy and white noise in background. Not sure what to do to fix this.  Anyone else?

I just upgraded drive from 1 TB to a 2 TB. I tried 2 ways using Acronics True Image 2015 retail & one off the drive manufacture site which is Western Digital.
I did a clone & all went well but I lost my restore points & why didn't it copy them? When I click system restore in new cloned drive I see my C drive 2x one active & other says (missing). When I first booted into the new cloned drive I saw Blue Screen something about memory management but it didn't create a mini dump file & rebooted normally rest of the time. Only other thing was Google Chrome account got messed up but deleted it & logged in Google account again. Is this normal behavior for a drive clone? I still have old drive in case something not go right but so far all fine except this. I also tried system image but on the new 2 TB there was over 1 TB of raw space & had to partition it & not want to to that.

Hi! I am using a C40-05 All in one, it comes with an A330 AMD Graphic Card.  Since I updated to Windows 10 Anniversary, and also with creators update, it detects the graphic card as an M330, which causes huge problems, like a lot of time to startup windows, and an eternal lag once it starts (i'm talking about 10 minutes just to move the mouse, or even other tasks).  I have tried diagnostic utilities, and they all say it is ok (both hardware and software).  The only way to use the computer is to go to device administrator and disable the graphic card, however, once disabled the computer losses a lot of performance of course, specially in graphics. Please help me, I have tried even to reinstall Windows from 0, with the option to format and download directly windows from MS website.

Hello, chums

I posted this on answers.microsoft but it's slim pickings I'm afraid. Perhaps you can help:

Hello,

Background: PC is a custom build. (intel i7 Z77 @ 3.5 GHz, Nvidia GTX 970, 16GB RAM) I upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10 without any problems in November 2015. One thing I'll mention now that I'll come back to later: Due to my amateurish build, there are some idiosyncrasies with the disks on the computer. There are 4 HDDs in the tower and one SSD. One of the HDDs is not functional but that has been the case for a while and is not germane to the problem. The system drive is C:/, the SSD. However in Disk Management, the SSD is listed as the final disk, disk 3. Disk 0 is my largest harddrive, a 1TB number. The System Reserved partition is on Disk 0. When I run diskpart -> list volume in the command prompt, the SSD is volume 4. The System Reserved partition is volume 0, and volume 1 is the 1TB HDD where the SR partition resides. I have just noticed that when I go to System Information, the boot device is given as volume 1, as opposed to volume 4, the system drive.

So, the problem:

I used the upgrade assistant to try and upgrade Win 10 version 10586 to the Anniversary Edition, latest build. After downloading the update and running the installation, the system rebooted, went to the black screen with the win10 logo and white circle, rebooted again, went to that screen, then booted Win10 as normal. There was no indication the installation was c... Read more

Sorry, we couldn't complete the update to Windows 8.1. We've restored your previous version of Windows to this PC.

The funny thing is that a few weeks ago I already updated to windows 8.1 but because of a faulty driver and not being able to boot into safe mode I had to renew my windows and downgrade to windows 8.0. But now I can't seem to update to windows 8.1 anymore. I installed all the windows updates even the optional ones. So I did a factory reset and uninstalled everything that didn't seemed necessary for windows so the update would go smoother. I found a toshiba page with a tutorial to how to update to 8.1 and it told me to uninstall the following:

Genesys Logic
Intel PROSet
Intel Wireless Display
Realtek-audio driver
TOSHIBA PC Health Monitor
Realtek WLAN driver
Realtek Bluetooth Filter driver

and on another page it told me to uninstall anything related with toshiba so I did all that and these are programs I currently have:

I also tried with a clean boot but still no change. My graphics driver atm is version 8.9 while the most recent released version is 13.12 but toshiba only release update 12.1 for windows 8.1 and I did try installing that but it just got me into a endless boot loop.

I am currently running a desktop HP p7-1070t with 6GB  of memory and I5 Core i5 Processor.  It had Windows 7 preinstalled with this desktop.  Since Aug 2015 to present, I have been using Windows 10 Professional Version without any problems what so ever with the free upgrade to Windows 10. As of yesterday 8/02/16, I upgraded to Windows Anniversary Update manually online.  Everything went extremely well with the download and installation.  However after the installation, the computer restarted on its own and the screen turned black but I noticed there was a circular motion with white dots.  I thought it was still running and processing. I left it and check on it 5 hours later and it was still a black screen and a circular motion with white dots was still running.  I had a feeling something was wrong.  I could not upgrade to Windows 10 anniversary update. Someone told me it is because of my graphics card driver  is not compatible or supported with the anniversary update version.  I don't know why but I had to revert my computer back to Windows 10 prior to the anniversary update in order for it to work.  Has anyone have problems with this desktop computer and upgrading to the annivesary update.  Not sure what to do. The graphics card from the device manager says it is a Intel HD graphics.

A:Upgrading to Windows Anniversary Update

DDOMINIC Don't feel bad, in the Win 10 community forums, lots of reports are now rolling in about folks being unable to complete the Anniversary Update. My desktop updated to the November Update just fine, but it failed on the Anniversary Update. This is problem that is starting to become common with the Anniversary Update -- it's happened to my PCs and they had no problems with the initial upgrade or the November Update last fall. The consensus on the community forums is that this is a conflict with Windows Defender updates being delivered at the same time as the Anniversary Update. The solution (which I have used successfully) is the following: Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool - Windows Help1) Use this link to download the Windows Media Creation Tool: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win102) Using that tool, create a USB stick or DVD of the version of Win10 that matches what you have installed3) Disconnect your PC from the Internet -- either by disconnecting the networking cable, or by disabling WiFi -- this is Important!4) Insert the Win10 media you created, find the "drive", right-click on the setup.exe program -- to start the Update5) Sit back and wait -- this can easily take a half hour or more6) Your PC will restart at least once during the UpdateThis is basically running something known as a Repair-Install -- which retains all your data and applications.Good Luck

I have tried multiple times to install the Windows 8.1 update through the Microsoft Store but keep getting Error Code 0xC1900101-0x40017. I have tried the following but get the same result;

Ran all of Windows Updates that would come upVerified that all drivers were up to date. Note: my video driver is NOT a Nvidia but an Intel. I've seen posts stating that this driver needs to be updated in order to fix the problem.Ran Selective Start Up

I don't know what else to do at this point because I have not been able to find anything online related to my problem. Please advise if you have any suggestions. Thanks!

I receive a similar error again on our HP Pavilion Notebooks with AMD CPU when updating to Windows 10 Creator update as last time when updating to Windows 10. Our office has a few of the 17-G133cl notebook computers and all of them display the same error message: We couldn't install Windows 10 - 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 - The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation. Which is similar to the error displayed during the initial Windows 10 update except that the error shown was 0x1900101 - 0x20000. Back then a BIOS update that became available that fixed the issue. We check for a new BIOS, but all notebooks have the latest BIOS already installed v. F.41 from 9/19/2016. All other systems including other none HP AMD computers upgraded just fine. Any ideas what could cause this issue with that type of system?

Try running this to see if there were any problems with W8 updates prior to upgrade (I don't know if it runs on W8).
There is this
System Update Readiness Tool

Also run the System Update Readiness Tool

For 32 bit Windows
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=504

For 64 bit Windows
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=1540

To see results click Start - All Programs - Accessories - Right click Command Prompt and choose Run As Administrator. Type (or copy the below line and one blank line underneath and right click in the command prompt window and choose Paste).
