Lenovo Z580 no splash, no BIOS, no Boot

Q: Lenovo Z580 no splash, no BIOS, no Boot

Hi everybody, I saw many of problems like mine there, but I can't still do anything after several attempts to solve that. It started two weeks ago.. I did cleaned my hdd, then to keep my device lil a bit update I have updated few drivers. First day, it was able to boot up after 10-15 attempts. (Holding down the power button, disc. battery, ac, reconnect and power button again). Since that time I was unable to get to the BIOS, set Boot order, and I couldn't see even the splash screen. Several days it did the same and the attempts grew up. Last time it was able to launch, its about 4 days ago, I was watching, film then I felt asleep. When I woke up in the morning, the screen wasn't black but still slighty light(not off, fans were working, cooler was fine). Since that moment I couldn't boot it anymore. I tried reseting CMOS battery, tried to flash bios by using flash disk and Fn+R (laptop did different thing but after 15secs it has turned off).. I think it is frozen BIOS but I haven't clue what to do when I can't simply set the boot order. Maybe I am wrong and the problem is only in the motherboard. Novo button works but everything I choose there, it ending by black screen again. Thanks for help, maybe for any solutions how to fix this. I am prepared to buy another motherboard, but if I would be able to repair it on my own, I would happy. Thanks,Jakub.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello,I'm trying to clean install Windows 10 on my laptop but I'm having some problems. My laptop is an old Lenovo Z580 i7. Initially it had Windows 8 but then I somehow managed to clean install Windows 10 on it.I said somehow because I'm trying to do the same right now, but I can't manage to do it!The problem is I can't find any way to boot from USB to access to the Windows 10 installer. It's a well known problem with Lenovo Z580 that many people had. When I clean installed a couple of years ago I managed to boot it from the USB, but I tried so many things now and I can't do it!I tried clicking the Lenovo button (which is how it's supposed to work) but nothing happens. I tried to access the BIOS but it doesn't let me go on it, whatever button I press on boot. I tried to reboot from Windows 10 going on Settings -> Recovery, still I can't get to boot via USB.Does anyone have a suggestion about what to do?Thank you.

Greetings everyone!
Here is the problem, sadly, i am not the only one that has it- So, i have this perfect z580 ideapad which got a BIOS update before few years... and it started running slow, and some other problems appeared. So i want my old BIOS back. The new one is the 5FCN95WW... but sadly i have no backup of the old BIOS, i think it is 5FCN34 or 35WW. I saw tons of information around the internet, many posts here in the Lenovo forums, i've downloaded countless files, used many programs, even backed up my own BIOS and nothing.
I haven't seen even 1 solution from point A to point B for "How to backup and then flashback to the old bios again if needed", so please, tell me what can i do.
1: How can i obtain a file of the old good original BIOS
2: I have 2 Lenovo z580 laptops and just one of them is with the new BIOS, the other one has the old BIOS - can i somehow make a file of the old BIOS, transfer it to the other laptop and then flash back to it.

Thank you in advance, i hope to see a good answer these days, which will save me much troubles.

Good afternoon, I am quite disappointed because I see many problems with BIOS or BOOT problems for Lenovo Z580.I still can't find solution for my problem. The point is I can't go to the BIOS with lenovo recovery button. I had to pull out battery of bios and then I could go there. When I changed some options and saved the settings, the bios had still same options like before. I can't swtich the boot priorities. However I inserted boot flash with WIN10 to install that, but I can't because of the boot priorities. I am stucked. Also I tried all key shortcuts, It does nothing. I really don't want to  take out the HDD and re-install the windows in different PC via sata.  Can you tell me how should I boot the flash or CD with windows when I can't set up the boot priotiry? All I can see is blackscreen.  The point with lenovo recovery button is also weird. When i start laptop via this button I see the menu with options but after I choose one of them for example ''recovery" or "bios " It does nothing.  Thanks, David Byrtus

Lenovo Ideapad z580 Win10 64 I updated the bios with the private update (I know now that I should have used the public update) Then it showed this menu:http://i.imgur.com/kZaO2tf.jpg Whenever I selected HDD, the screen would go black for a couple of seconds and return to this menu. I fixed it by going into BIOS and changing bootmode from UEFI to Legacy. it booted but now everything is slow. It takes 5 mins to boot up and a further 15 minutes to reach usable speeds (I only have 4 startup programs). I tried changing it back to UEFI and it gives me the same problem as shown in the picture. I tried installing the public update, but it says that I cannot update as the current bios version is the same or newer. I went into BIOS and enabled BIOS back flash, and now when I try to start the public update, it just crashes. I also cannot access the start menu (this problem may be seperate and unrelated) I have backed up files and am prepared to do a clean reinstall of Win10, but I feel this won't work as it's a BIOS issue. The computer is unusably slow: what should I do? Thanks

I own a Lenovo G700, and I have heard that Shift + F2 will get you into the BIOS. It might work if all else fails. You can also call Lenovo support or search around a bit more. But in my case I have to use the hardware OneKey Recovery button to access it.

A:ThinkCentre: Stuck at Lenovo splash screen after lenovo solution bios upgrade

I would try resetting the BIOS using the jumper, or by taking out the CMOS battery, wait a minute or two, and then replace it and try booting up. See page 73 of the Hardware Maintenance Manaul linked below for location of the Clear CMOS/Recovery jumper (# 20) https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/thinkcentre_pdf/m83m93p_hmm.pdf Clearing the CMOS (BIOS)1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the computer. Then, disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the computer. 2. Remove the computer cover. 3. Locate the Clear CMOS /Recovery jumper on the system board. 4. Move the jumper from the standard position (pin 1 and pin 2) to the maintenance position (pin 2 and pin 3). 5. Reinstall the computer cover and connect the power cord. 6. Turn on the computer and leave it on for approximately 10 seconds. Then, turn off the computer by holding the power switch for approximately five seconds. 7. Repeat step 1 through step 2. 8. Move the Clear CMOS /Recovery jumper back to the standard position (pin 1 and pin 2). 9. Reinstall the computer cover and connect the power cord. Good Luck,

To make a long story short, I've been asked to help fix a friends mom's U410 laptop which wasnt activiting Windows 8.1 properly (Was Windows 8 OOB). After struggling with the activation for a few hours, I backed up the data and decided to just run the Lenovo one key recovery. During the recovery process, the installation had failed. When I attemped to reboot, no Lenovo splash screen was loading - just a black screen (although i can hear the cooling fan start, and hear the harddrive spin up. I tried to access the boot menu thru the novo button, and nothing would load; still a black screen. After researching for a few more hours, I had found multiple threads about bios updates required to be able to access bios with windows 8, and other threads about gpus on these units booting to a second screen (which i did test, and the second monitor does indicate a signal). None of the solutions on those threads have given positive results.   Basically, I've run out of options and am looking for some suggestions. The only thing that shows up on the display at anytime is the small blue novo menu when the button is pressed (normal start up, bios setup, boot menu, system recovery - all of which just leave a black screen). Thanks.

My problem began when I updated my BIOS at Lenovo to version 5FC95WW. Now my laptop will not boot into Windows 7. It automatically goes to the Bios set up screen only. After I save and exit from the Bios screen & wait about 15 seconds it goes back to the 'set-up' screen again. It will not do anything else. Everything appears to be normal in that screen. Has anybody got any suggestions. Thanks.

Here's my sad story (I'm using a Lenovo Z580 laptop with Windows 7):

On Tues, 11/11/14 I installed all of the critical & important Windows Updates along with 2 additional updates (I don't recall what the additional ones were for).

After the updates completed I rebooted the machine, but the display did not come on. The lights and fan came on, but no display. I rebooted 3 or 4 more times and nothing changed. I plugged an external monitor into the laptop but got no display on either screen. From there I spent an hour or so powering the machine completely down, removing the battery, then rebooting while trying to enter either Safe Mode with F8 or the BIOS with F2 but each time I did the computer did not respond. A friend suggested removing and replacing the CMOS battery. I did that, put the machine back together, but now when I push the power button the lights and fan come on for about 1 second, go off for about 8 seconds, and that cycle (1 second on, 8 seconds off) repeats until I remove the battery. I did put back the original CMOS battery and the same thing continues to happen.

I've gone all over the internet for the past 2 days looking for suggestions and nothing I've found or done is resolving the issue.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Right now I've got a brick, so I'm pretty willing to try anything.

Lenovo z580 I5 6gb ram, 1tb GFT hdd win 8/64 - 18 months old. System is excruciatingly slow, all works but not in a manner that is usable.

I have exhausted my knowledge as to what the issue is. What I have tried:

Usual safe boot, remove AV, Java, combofix, rootkit checks, chkdsk, sfc, seatools long check, reseated hdd,
in place repair. Troubleshooter indicated no problems. Non solved the issue.

I even sent away for the Lenovo win8/64 re-install disks - took 8 hours to get the system re-installed, but still the same (patience is a virtue!).

After going back to manufacturer settings, I am coming down to hardware problems - in 12 years never had a processor issue - Seatools did not give me errors. although I am leaning to this as the source of the issue. Is there any other issue eg motherboard? Is there a way I can pin-point the issue without going out and buying more unnecessary replacement parts?

Please advise

Try removing half the ram then test. If still slow, swap ram and test again.

I purchased a used Leovo Z580 laptop; the seller put in a SSD, no operating system (the way I asked for it). It's like brand new, I don't think anyone ever used it. I have another Lenovo Z580, so I am familiar with this model. I purchased it to install Linux Mint, which I put on a thumb drive after downloading the .iso file. When I turn on the laptop, I get a blank screen and then after several seconds I get a list of options for the Boot Menu, starting with Windows Boot Manager. All the other drives are there, including the CD/DVD, the SSD, and the USB thumb drive, as well as two PCI LAN options. When I select any of these, the menu disappears, and the computer apparently reboots as the same menu comes up after a delay of several seconds. When I choose App Menu > Setup, I get the BIOS Settings menu. Under the Boot tab, I make certain that "boot from USB" is enabled. I change the boot order, putting USB at the top, and make certain to save these changes. When I exit out and reboot, the exact same menu comes up, with the exact same boot order as before, i.e.: not the USB. What am I doing wrong, and how do I fix it? Booting while holding F2 doesn't work, nor does F12, nor does booting it without the battery in. This series of laptops is kind of weird in that holding down the "b" key seems to summon the menu, but that does not work with this laptop. Plus, I seem to be getting to the boot order menu, just that changes never seem to "stick." What a... Read more

After basic setup and startup, I decided to install the BIOS update Windows 7 64 Bit for my PC. Hey

My grandma has a Dell Inspiron 1545 (I think).

When one tries to power it on, the power light comes on for several seconds, and then goes off. Things start spinning up in the first couple seconds after the power button is pressed. The screen is completely blank the whole time. It seems like it must be a power issue, but she thinks that the battery should have lasted from when the power supply tanked to when she found the computer powered off. What could be wrong? (Hope this is intelligible; I'm rather tired.)

Thanks,

B

A:No BIOS splash screen (or boot)

This is a laptop isn't it?
Have you tried powering it up on the mains but with the battery removed?
If the powersupply has died then it is possible that it killed the battery in the process, so the theory of the battery taking over won't necessarily be the case.

Hello guy and gals, I've been trying to diagnose this problem with the help of a few friends and we're out of ideas at this point.

The computer in question is a home built PC the worked fine for two years before this problem occurred,I'm told the problem first started when it got a virus but I don't know for sure. The PC has an Asus P5N32-E SLI MB and it's running Vista Home Premium 32-Bit.

When I start the computer it loads to the bios splash screen and normally freezes there, occasionally I'm able to get into the bios before it freezes where I can see that all of the temps are normal and nothing jumps out as unusual, however I only have about 20 seconds to look through it before it freezes. Before this started it would just just keep rebooting when it got to the post screen with occasional distortion of the bios splash screen.

I have tried replacing the hard drive with a known working one, and I have replaced the video card with a known working one; I have also pulled all of the ram out of the computer and tried each stick individually without success. I have pulled the battery several times and cleared the capacitors and so far I have gotten nowhere.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated, thank you in advance for your help.

A:PC Won't Boot Past BIOS Splash Screen

Only suspects left then are Motherboard/CPU and PSU. I guess you can try to check atleast CPU in some other board if possible to start with.

Hi guys, I'm dealing with a problem which is currently (but I sincerely hope, not permanently) rendering my G700 useless. When I attempt to boot my PC it freezes at the Lenovo splash screen. I've waited ample amount of time but nothing appears to happen. One time I waited and managed to get into a Windows troubleshooting menu where I attempted to wipe the PC and start fresh, but this also froze at the lenovo screen soon after. Pressing the Novo button gives me 4 options but it appears to freeze, not allowing me to scroll through the options, or press enter. If I remove the harddrive it tells me to insert media and press OK, but once again, it appears to freeze as pressing enter doesn't do anything. I've tried booting from a USB stick but can't seem to get into any setting which would allow me to do this.I Removed DVD drive as I read on this forum that it was an issue with different Lenovo laptops, and since I don't use it anyway, decided to give it a go, but unfortunately nothing changed :-( If any kind soul could advise me with what I could possibly do, it be would be greatly appreciated as I'm dreading the thought of having to purchase a new laptop. Thanks :-)

I have a strange problem on my Windows 8 machine.

I've had my HP Pavilion p6331p for at least four years now and I upgraded it to Windows 8 a few months ago.

I recently have done a clean install of Windows 8, but one problem seems persistent.

When I turn on my computer, it splashes the HP Pavilion BIOS screen and then hangs at a blank screen with a white "_" blinking (as if it was looking for a drive to boot from).

If I hit the "esc" key during boot, however, it loads the boot menu, displaying my hard drive, the DVD drive, and my external hard drive. When I select the main drive, it boots up just fine.

Any reason for this? One individual suggested I update my BIOS because it's a 2010 version. Any tips on how to do that? I've never upgraded BIOS before, and frankly I'm a bit intimidated to.

Thanks for your help, I'll be willing to supply more information if you need it.

A:Initial Boot: Hangs after BIOS Splash Screen

Try resetting the BIOS.

Power off, unplug the power cord.
Open the case.
Remove the CMOS battery (silver, about the size of a quarter).
Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to let all the capacitors drain.
Put the battery back in.
Check all the cables and connectors, make sure they are firmly seated.
Close the case.
Plug in the power cord and power up.

You will get an error message about corrupted CMOS, Press F1 or F2. Press the key to go into Setup.
Load defaults(Fn key or a selection on one of the screens).
Save and exit.

See if that makes a difference.

Hi

I recently installed a gigabyte B75M-D3H 1155 mobo, i5 cpu, my pc boots fine but there is no BIOS splash screen at all and it is worrying me. I can boot into win 7 fine, but when I turn the computer on it goes from blank screen very quick (1 second) cursor flash, then windows splash screen. Is something wrong? It has done this since the 1st time I booted it. Going into the Bios there is an option named "full screen logo show" but it makes not difference whether that is enabled or not. My monitor is on the whole time, not waking from sleep or anything like that.

A:New motherboard - BIOS splash screen is skipped during boot

The new MBoards are really fast going through the BIOS Post. I looked at thier site, and there is a utility that lets you access the BIOS through Windows. Install the app, then you can set a post delay.

Hi,My HP Pavilion MS200 (MS215es) has been having BlueSOD for some time now (code error 7a). Last Tue. it seemed to have a crash during a BlueSoD crash dump... 1st time ever it happened. Sure enough, big problems started just after: first, PC did not power off like it always does after the crash dump; and it stayed on with Black Screen. When I tried to restart using the power off button, got my first BlackSOD ever, no blip, no cursor, no BIOS splash screen, no Windows logo, no nothing...On (1st):Then after abt 1h30, PC starts again (1st restart after initial BSOD), without me having done much, except trying to start it every now and then w/ start button.Crash:After abt 30mn of PC on, while trying to back up data w/ Windows7 back up tool, crash dump again and then BSOD.On (2nd):Just after that, I read on my smartphone abt the trick of unplugging PC power plug, while pressing power button and it works, PC starts once again (2nd time).BSOD on restart:I choose SafeMode, and try again to make a back up w/ Windows7 back up tool, and realise it s not avalaible in SafeMode so I restart computer... But goes straight into BSOD once again...On (3rd):Again, abt 1h later, without me having done much, except reading abt BSOD on my smartphone and trying to start the PC every now and then w/ start button, PC starts again (3rd).Crash:30mn later, while trying to make a back up of data in normal mode w/ Windows7 back up tool, BlueSOD once again...I decide CHKDSK is needed before ... Okey, here it goes....
A long time ago in a galaxy far far away..
My pc decides not to boot past the bios flash screen.

Detailness

- So i got a new sata hdd not long ago.

- I had Ubuntu and Windows 7 on duel boot. They both worked fine and never gave me any trouble.

- Decided i didn't want duel boot anymore.
I just wanted a fresh install of Windows 7
because im going to be upgrading the mobo, ram, CPU and gfx card.
Basically everything going to be upgraded over the course of the next couple of weeks.

- So i proceeded to format my 500gb sata hdd and install Windows 7.

- After the files copied from the dvd to the hdd my pc rebooted as expected.

- Then the normal boot screen appeared. this is where it hangs.

This is pretty much what i see:

Press del to run setup
Press f8 for BBS POPUP
DDR Frequency...... blah blah
Initializing usb controllers.. done.
Auto-Detecting Pri slave... IDE Hard Disk
Auto-Detecting 3rd slave... CD/DVD ROM
Sec Master: ST3500418AS CC38
Ultra DMA Mode-5 S.M.A.R.T. Capable and Status OK
It just hangs on this.

- I cant boot from dvd or cd
- I cant press del to run setup, it just says entering and does nothing else
- I cant press f8 for bbs popup, it just does the same as pressing del

If i remove the sata hdd i can then press del or f8 and it lets me into the bios.
same with the dvd drive. If the hdd is unplugged then i can boot from the dvd.
what i think the problem might be is my processor. its pentium 4... old... Read more

When I press the power button the wi-fi light turns on and the HDD spins, then the fan spins for a second then shuts off. Then the 3 blue lights (number lock, caps lock, scroll lock) at the top of the keyboard light up. The two on the right stay solid but the number lock blinks. The screen stays dark the entire time.

There was no trauma the the laptop that I know of, and it worked property last time I used it (last week).

I have tried removing and re-installing the processor, ram, hdd, dvd drive, battery, and every combination I could think of. Another site said the flashing numberlock indicated a need to reset or replace the processor or the motherboard.

Any suggestions would be very appreciated. I appologize if I forgot any details, thank you for your time.

-G.

A:Dell m4500 laptop won't boot, no bsod, no bios, no splash

You pretty much covered everything. If you have more than one RAM stick try only one and swap slots. If that doesn't work try the other stick and swap slots.

Have you tried a powercycle. Pull the battery and power adapter. Hold the power button down for 30 seconds. Replace the power adapter but leave out the battery and boot.

Sometimes a bad CMOS battery can make things flaky.

My Satellite pro L300-1FN is refusing to boot up. When switched on the laptop displays the toshiba/insyde H20 BIOS splash screen and the "Press F2 go to Setup Utility, F12 go to boot menu" message and flashes the hard disk access light but does not attempt to continue loading. I have left the bios at the splash screen but it does nothing for many hours on AC or runs the battery flat while on battery.

Is there a way of re-setting the BIOS on this unit? If it were a desktop unit I would remove the CMOS battery to force a BIOS reset but this is impossible on a laptop. The hard disk is fine as I have connected it to another system to remove valuable data.

A:Satellite Pro L300-1FN does not boot - hangs at BIOS splash screen

Hi

What happens if you press F2 while notebook booting up?
Can you access the BIOS?
If yes, access the BIOS and set it to default. I think you will need to press F9 or F10 to get default settings but this will be mentioned at the bottom of the BIOS page.

Check this!

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but anyway...
Quite a while ago i swapped my old 19" monitor for my older Samsung 24" LCD 720P TV, its not bad as a monitor but i have a few issues.
Since then i am unable to access the BIOS since my BIOS splash does not display so i cannot see what key i press for what feature i want from the motherboard....
Also the Windows 7 orb splash is now the Vista green bar. This was fine before the monitor change, i have not needed to repair my system so the bootloader locale is fine. Can anyone help me with this? It would be really appreciated
Cheers, lindsaymobil22

A:Change of monitor, no BIOS splash, Win7 splash now Vista one....

When you need to go in to BIOS or do a startup repair, plug your monitor back in.

Hi everyone,
I have a Dell XPS 17 L702x that I was prepping to sell.  The basic specs are:
Intel i7-2760QM
16GB of RAM (4GB x4)
NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M with 1080p 3D screen
500GB 7200 RPM HDD x2
A19 BIOS
Windows 10 Pro
Like I said, I was prepping to sell the laptop.  The laptop was functioning properly.  I had wiped the HDDs clean and was in the middle of performing a clean install of Windows 10 pro from a USB drive.  I have done this before and never had a problem.  The install started correctly. I selected the drive that I wanted, and the installer wrote the files to the drive.  The laptop then restarted.  The power came back on, the fan started up, and I could hear the optical drive and HDDs spin up.  However, the screen stayed blank/black, and the Dell splash screen never appeared.  The activity light on the USB drive never comes on.  The normal functions keys do nothing.
Here are some troubleshooting things that I have tried:
I removed the RAM and HDDs.  I get the typical 2 beeps from not having any RAM.  Motherboard seem ok.
I have tested the RAM in my work Latitude E6430.  The E6430 will boot with the RAM from the L702x.  The RAM seems ok.
I have tested each stick of RAM one at a time in various slots in the L702x.  Same problem, blank screen, and no beeps.
I have connected the HDDs to the E6430 with a SATA to USB cable.  I can format and read/write from/to the HDDs.  The HDDs seem ok.

I have had several Dell Laptops (D630, D830, E6410, E6510, Precision M4500), and with the D630 and E6410 Dell was VERY helpful after the warranty expired (in one case by 5 months).. even replaced a system board or 2 since tons of people were reporting issues similar to mine on the D and E series.

NOW
on my Precision M4500, I called Dell 1 day (24 hours) after the warranty expired.

Issue: The system would REFUSE to boot past the dell BIOS splash screen.
It would finally boot after 10 or so power cycle attempts.

Dell refused to "help" me but did give me some advice
now ... 1 month after the warranty expired - the issue is back

System Info:
Dell M4500
16GB DDR3 RAM (Dell Certified) - issue remains when I use the 8gb in my e6410
bluray drive (I also tried to boot using the dvd drive in my e6410, issue remains)
intel 6250 wifi/wimax card
gobi 2000 card
Bluetooth
i7 cpu
NVidia FX 880 gpu
bios level a15
os: dual boot via GRUB - Ubuntu 13.10 and windows 7 ultimate (both 64 bit)

when it does finally boot, I get a message about intel management engine booting the factory image or something to that effect

it will NEVER boot past the bios splash screen on battery only (even with a new battery)
once booted, I can unplug and get about 2 1/2 hours of usage from the pc

I can access the bios settings with no issues - even on the "no-boot" power ups

once it does boot, there are no other issues

NOW:
after reading on the internet I found this to be a COMMON problem

A:Dell Precision M4500 - Wont boot past BIOS splash screen

I now have 2 M4500 that do the same thing. With Intel SpeedStep enabled, it refuses to boot. Both have SSD drives, 16GB DDR3 RAM, NVIDIA FX880 GPU. one has a i7-940 and the other a i7-920. I hope DELL steps up and fixes this issue in A16 BIOS update.

Hi,
I've tried the suggestions on what to do if the computer won't boot, such as chkdsk and fixmbr. Did the hardware scan, all is well.

chkdsk said it fixed some stuff... not very specific on what it was.
fixmbr said the boot record was either bad or non-standard, so I went ahead and re-wrote it, but with the same result.

What are my other options for system recovery?

Thanks.

Error message?

System manufacturer and model?

Have you read your owner's manual?
