Multiple monitor extension: Missing multiple display and orientation option

Q: Multiple monitor extension: Missing multiple display and orientation option

Hi,I just installed windows 7 ulimate. After installation when i intend to extend my laptop with an extra monitor using VGA, i noticed there is no mutiple display and orientation option. I followed control panel--adjust screen resolution. I reinstalled the operating system once again but the problem still remains. Do I need extra adaptor software or something. If anyone can solve the issue, it would be very helpful. Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have just bought a compaq 2g3-350uk and it runs on windows 7. The main reason I bought this was so it can run with our sanyo projector. I have a problem because it does not give me multiple display option for me to choose the projector for display. In the system resolution option tab it only has 3 option and instead of four. The last option is not available.

A:Multiple Display Option on Windows 7

lebo, welcome to the Seven Forums.

Not sure how you are connecting two displays to that computer (VGA splitter?) as looking at the specs for the motherboard in it,

Motherboard Specifications, H-Aira-RS780L-uATX (Aira-GL8) Compaq SG3-350UK Desktop PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

Compaq SG3-350UK Product Specifications Compaq SG3-350UK Desktop PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

it only has one VGA port, and no slot at all for a video card. If you are using a VGA splitter for both displays to be able to connect to the computer, that would be why Windows isn't seeing the second and showing the options for it because as far as Windows is concerned there is only one display attached.

Even when i click on the detect button it says, Didn't detect another display. in the display example box it only shows one blue window with a 1 in it.

My Dell Insipron 6400 laptop will not support multiple monitors. I think I may not have a key driver installed. Help!!

I have attached two separate images, screen shot of my device manager and display properties and a screen shot of the same image on my mothers PC. (which is also a Dell Inspiron 6400)

On my PC, In my device manager I can not view the display adapters (there must be something installed and I do not have visiblilty?? correct??)

Also, on my display properties I do not even have the option for Multiple monitor support. (these are the same PC's)

I inserted my Drivers and Utilities CD from Dell, but I did not see any driver on there that was applicable to a display adapter.

Am I on the right track???

Hello folks,

I seem to be having multiple problems all at the same time (all of which may or may not be related) but let me start from the beginning.

This all started when I tried to connect my Inspiron 1720 laptop to our television. For some reason my laptop froze, the image on both my computer and TV had white lines across it, and so I turned off my system since it was locked up.

I restarted and began having display problems - first windows were not opening in the desktop area. They would open in the system tray, but were "unreachable" by the mouse. I played with display settings and got the screen to fit...but now seem to have 2 primary problems:

Whenever I play games, view pictures, or Windows Media Player, I see strange "plaid boxes." However, the desktop is fine and everything else appears to work fine. I contacted NVIDIA and I have installed different driver versions, as well as the OEM (Dell's) driver's - all did not work - I still saw the distorted images when playing games, viewing pictures, and videos.

I have also completed System Restore's to points prior to when I was having the problem - unfortunately that did not work.

Here are screenshots of what I am seeing:

This problem may stem from the original TV incident. When I click on Displa... Read more

A:Vista Display Problem (display driver and/or multiple-monitor related)

The first set of pictures that you put up look like classics examples of bad video RAM. In a desktop PC I would tell you to swap out the video card with a differnt one to verify that is the issue since in a few cases bad drivers can cause the issue but it's highly unlikely. Professional service by a local non big box computer shop is your best bet at this point.

Hey guys,
The screen orientation option on my Sony Vaio is missing for some reason.
It seems the option itself to change the screen orientation is disabled since the shortcuts won't work as well. I've got the latest graphic drivers (Intel HD 3000).
Just to clarify this, the option that won't appear is the "Orientation" box in the following picture:

Can anyone think of what I could do to fix this? I've been told it might be something with the registry but I don't know what to change.
Thank you! :)

A:Windows 7 screen orientation option missing

Right-click an empty area of desktop and mouse-over "Graphics Options".
You should then see a menu for "Rotation" (or at least that's what my Windows 7 has).

Today I have linked up two lcd televisions to my Nvidia Gforce 8600 gt graphics card using VGA to VGA and DVI to HDMI connections. One monitor can use a resolution of 75hz whilst the other will only allow 60hz (I have tried them as the same and both at their optimal res and framerates).

My problem is that the second monitor is completely blurry....i have attempted to adjust sharpness but it will not allow me to move the tab from zero. I have also switched the connections and the television attached to VGA is always the clearest screen and whichever TV is connected via HDMI is always blurred - we have tried a second cable (got both together today) and still have the same problem even when in single monitor mode. Possibly graphics card driver problems?

If someone could help me fix this issue I would be really grateful. Have looked on google and seen that its a problem for other people with alternate graphics cards but cannot find a solution.

A:Multiple Monitor Display

rapid help,
quotes in part:
'lcd televisions'
'completely blurry'
a pc monitor and a television may LOOK similar,
but if you check the specifications,
specifically the dpi for the resolutions,
they are pretty much two different animals,
while a pc monitor can be used for viewing media items,
such as movies and games,
the opposite is NOT necessarily true,
UNLESS the manufacturer has stated something like 'monitor / tv'
you will find that trying to view text just leaves a lot to be desired,
that's the simple answer,
the technical answer goes much deeper,

Is it possible to have 2 computers (or more) having multiple display on a single monitor? (not KVM, if you know what I mean?)

A:Multiple display on a single monitor?

Most certainly not without some very special hardware. What would be the point anyway? If you split a monitor in half, the resolution would be so low that it would be unusable with modern user interfaces.

Dell Latitude D810 DVD viewing on Sony LCD TV via S-VHS cable
Laptop display no longer works once Windows XP Professional is loaded

I hooked my Dell Latitude D810 to the monitor to my Sony TV via S-VHS cable.

I watched a DVD from the laptop drive on my laptop monitor and the TV monitor full screen (they were not split screen images).

It worked great until I decided to try and “fine tune” the image dimensions on the TV.

I am not sure in what order the events unfolded, but the TV monitor suddenly showed only the wallpaper image on screen, but the laptop still had desktop items and task bar on with the wallpaper image.

In the DISPLAY field in SETTINGS, I was scrolling between 1. (Multiple Monitors) on ATI…
2. (Multiple Monitors) on ATI…

I may have messed up with the settings in the ADVANCED tab too.

My laptop display no longer works once I am in Windows XP Professional.

F8 and F12 allowed me to run diagnostics (all passed) and a safe mode start that also loses the display once XP Pro is loaded.

Once XP Pro is loaded, I can hear the laptop accepting my password entry with its cute little “beep”

It sounds like a pop-up block shortly thereafter – not sure that is relevan... Read more

Welcome to TSG....

Go into safe mode and try to remove the display adapter in device manager and then exit out and reboot and see if it re-installs the display adapter driver. This might reset the settings for the screens. Also if you get the screens in safe mode try to reset the procedure back to what it was or to a default setting in the same place you made the settings change the first time.

I have a Sony VAIO VPCSB3S9E/B Windows 7 64 bit. It has a 1366 x 768 display. It also has the stamina/speed button switch which I had almost permanently on Stamina. Today, however, I switched to Speed and the resolution is odd. It's stuck at 1078x768. On the resolution screen, there are two monitors 'sharing' one screen. Check it (sorry, it's in Czech):

When I press Identify, I get the two numbers sharing the one screen with a border between the two.

I tried to alter a few settings here but to no avail - could someone throw me a bone?

A:In display settings, multiple monitors are identified in one monitor

Ok, so it seems your Laptop is detecting another display. First of all can you please verify that you do not have an additional monitor/tv connected? If not then check the display ports on the laptop (VGA, DVI, HDMI etc) for any dust of something that shouldn't be there.
If this seems all fine then select the option that currently says something like "Duplicate These Displays" and select "Show Desktop Only On 1" and see how that goes.

How do you associate files with the same extension to be opened by multiple programs in Vista? For example, I want .jpg files to be viewed using one program and edited in another. This was straightforward in XP but the option seems to have disappeared in Vista. Any clues?

A:Associating same extension to multiple programs

I'm not sure what you mean by "two different" programs as you can only associate one "default" program to open a file. At any rate to assign a default program to open a particular file -

1- Right Click the file,
2- choose "Open With" in the drop down menu
3- Click "Choose Default Program"
4- Select "Select a program from a list of installed programs"
5- click "OK"
6- When the "Open With" box opens,
7- choose the program you want to associate the file with,
8- then make sure the "Alway use the selected program to open this kind of file" check box is checked.
9- Click "OK" and that's it. Program associated.

There you have it.

I have 3 files:
(note the extension of the last file compared to the others)
If I select File1 and File2, and right click, it gives me an option to open them.

However, if I select all the 3 files, the option is no longer there, even though it is the same application that opens them.

I would like Vista to open all my files at the same time, preferably even if the files are not all opened by the same application.
Any help on this would be great please! I've tried to search for this but haven't found a working solution.

How do I select multiple files with the same file extension in vista?

In XP I used a utility called Better Select and this worked nicely. eg: right click on a .jpg file in a folder containing assorted file extensions, and then choose Better select from the context menu. This would select all files with .jpg extension in that folder. Unfortunately Better Select no longer appears in the context menu since I moved to Vista Home Premium. It seems to have a valid registry entry however.

A:select multiple files with the same file extension in vista

One can sort the Windows Explorer listing by file type.
You just need to be in the "Details" mode, and then you can select the first one, and then scroll to the bottom, and then "Shift and Click" and all will be selected.

Database: Contacts (names, emails, phones, companies, etc.)

Goal: Allow multiple users to create a list of contacts based on a variety of criteria (reflected in the database)

I need help with: The actual query design based on the form created for the users

The form I created is essentially several option buttons. Users select which apply to the list they look to generate. I have created the form, and am vexed by the query design.

In language form, I want to do this:

If the Private Brands option button on the DRAFT Email List Parameters form is checked, include all records from the Contact table where Private Brands field = Yes; otherwise include records from the Contact table where Private Brands field = No.
(underlinded portions represent the actual names of the elements involved)
So, what I put in the "Field" row of the Design View of the query is this:

Expr1: IIf([Forms]![DRAFT Email List Parameters]![Incl PB]="Yes", [CONTACTS]![Private Brands]="Yes", [CONTACTS]![Private Brands]="No")
which returns that it is too complicated or written incorrectly. I can hear you say, "Of course it does!" I'm imagining some parts of this need to go in the Criteria row of the query, or perhaps need to be written in some other way.
I am not a VBA or SQL person (as you may imagine), but can follow directions.
Please help!

Sorry guys, I didn't know in which forum this topic belongs. I would like a computer system where I can have mulitple windows open on the monitor at the same time so I can switch between windows without having to minimize and maximize from the system tray, is there such an option on either a pc or mac? I guess it would be something like on a TV with "picture in picture"?

A:Any option to have multiple windows on a screen [Pc or mac?]

I can't speak for the Apple OS - but I believe it's the same - if I understand your question correctly it's built into Windows !
In every application running on Windows, except for the most trivial ones like Minesweeper or Solitaire, if you look at the screen in the top right corner there are three small boxes. The left hand one has a line it, that's the one that minimises it to the desktop. The right hand one has an X in it, that one closes the application. The middle one, which has two squares one superimposed on the other, is the one to change the size of the window.
Click on the middle square and the screen will shrink by some amount. Move the mouse cursor to any edge of the window and it will turn into a double headed arrow. Then drag until you have got the width and height you want. Once you have got the window to the size you want, click in the (normally) blue strip at the top of the window and hold the button down. You can now drag the window to wherever you want on the desktop.
Open your next application and repeat. You can do this for as many applications as (a) your computer memory will support, and ( your eyes can handle. Normally two or three is sufficent, it is of course also subject to the size of your screen. I am involved in project which involves taking a lot of photos then cataloguing them, so I routinely work with an image editor and a spreadsheet, with a browser going in the background for research.

Hi there!

What I want to do: "...extend my desktop on a second monitor, but, my second monitor is compounded by 2 HDMI TVs and a VGA LCD stage monitor both used as Duplicate setup in Windows 7".

How I have done this (and it works!):

-I have 4 diplay devices (2 HDMI TVs that are connected using a splitter and two monitors both on VGA);
-I also have two "video cards" (GPU): one Amd radeon hd 6570 (with VGA, DVI, and HDMI ports), and Intel HD onboard (aprox. 1GB with VGA output port).
-I have connected the TVs with a HDMI 1x2 splitter on amd radeon's HDMI port, and one of my VGA monitors (this one acts as a STAGE MONITOR for the singer / artist lyrics).
-The integrated Intel HD card has my "Control" monitor attached that I use as my primary monitor (the one that shows me the Desktop and the lyrics control application).

Software aspect of the problem: In Windows 7, I use my Intel HD video card as my primary display, then I can extend on a second monitor the desktop! (The second monitor is my VGA Stage monitor). The Third display that appears in the setup is the HDMI splitter, this one is a Duplicate of my stage monitor. I use: 1680x1050 resolution for my primary display, and 1024x768 for the second monitor... (I know, this resolution is too small for my HDMI TV's... Windows recommends me a 1900 x ... fullHD resolution, but my STAGE MONITOR does not support that much, so I need to use a small resolution).

Yes I have seen all the other monitor posts, and searched for what I can find, but no luck in what is going on with my issue. If this has to be moved to the correct thread, I understand.

Windows 7 Home Premium - Fully updated as of today
NVIDIA GeForce 9200 - Fully updated driver to the newest one released, Aug 2011....

When I look under windows display settings or NVIDEA settings there is not an option for a second monitor any more. There used to be. Now that I got a VGA spliter, there is not. I have tried a combination of everything from direct computer to 3 different monitors, all work perfectly, but when I attached 2 monitors with the spliter, all I get is the same image on each monitor.

When I hit detect, nothing happens, both monitors are identified as #1. Have rebooted, have updated, have done just about anything I can think of.... please anyone, why would windows not show a second monitor option now??

Spliter and monitors work perfectly with the laptop and second older/slower computer. But on this better computer, faster and just should be a hell of a lot better computer, I am not getting the option for a second monitor. Please help, any ideas?

Thank you

A:2nd Monitor not an option in display settings

A splitter simply sends one signal to different monitors, but there is still just one signal.
If you want the second monitor to be recognized, then it has to have it's own signal path.
A card that has VGA, DVI and HDMI has 3 signal paths.

The system is recognizing your two monitors as one monitor, one signal.

I have several HP Elite Desk 800 Desktop PCs.  These units have Display port connections to a monitor and an HDMI Switcher.  The switcher allows a user to choose between the PC and an input plate for Laptop HDMI/VGA connections.  The problem is that after swithcing away from and then back to the PC as a source, the display priority changes and I can't get an image.  When I am able to get an image the promary and secondary display options have changed.  I'd like to set the primary display as the monitor with video only and the secondary display as the switcher, which would carry video and audio, without any user adjustments.  I would also consider using VGA for the monitor and Display port-1 for the switcher.  Can I modify the bios settings, so that the PC will boot up and always stay in this configuration?

Hi and welcome. You shouldn't have to use the desktop manager.

Just right click on the desktop, properties, and go to the display settings, and choose to extend your desktop onto the second monitor.

My onboard video went out on Optiplex GX1. Put in Matrox Millinium II. Downloaded drivers. Installed fine but now system shows that I have (2) video adapters and (2) monitors ((1) default monitor and (1) Plug and play. I cannot get into the settings as it says that I have to disable multi-display. I cannot find any reference to this in Windows. Thanks for your help.

A:Multiple Display

Look in device manager, it is probably still showing that you have a second(your old) display adapter listed. You can disable the one that is defective in the BIOS or set it in device manager.

A few days ago my background was hijacked and since I have had issues with getting the background to restore.

The main problem I am trying to fix is that when I right-click on the desktop and select properties I am not able to get to the background options. Even going through the Control Panel does not produce the background display options.

I have run Spy Sweeper and AdAware and while it finds things removal of these hasn't solved the problems.

A:Background Option missing on Display Properties Menu

First check one thing, try to sign in as another user, if you are able to access the background features then the following will work...

After hours of analysis I determined that the problem was not in the system registry.

If you don't already have another account with admin rights, create one. Then log into it in safe mode just in case. Then go to where your user folders are kept usually in C:\Documents and Settings\"user with no background". Here create a new folder, we'll call it "new". Then move everything from your user folder to the new folder and delete the "user with no background" folder (this will not delete the user). Then reboot and login as your normal user. Windows will take a min or two to recreate the user files for your profile. When it loads go to C:\Documents and Settings again and move everything you can from the "new" folder back into your user folder with the exception of the NTUSER files, there should be two (in them lies the problem). This should restore your ability to access the background and everything else. You will need to reset some of your windows settings but all of your files and favorites should still be there. I still haven't had time to analyze the NTUSER files to determine exactly what the problem was but this method saved me countless hours of reloading.

Good luck!!

When I first got this monitor I could adjust the black level range using the on screen display (OSD) from 16-255 to 0-255. I can no longer see this option. It used to be under Main Menu -> Image Control -> Black Level  I no longer have the option. Can you please tell me where I can find it? The Monitor default is 16-255 and that makes the images too dark for me, I want to change it to 0-255

Hello, my laptop monitor recently was cracked and the screen is unreadable. I went out and bought a temporary monitor until I can fix my laptop's. Now the new monitor works in safe mode, but I can't figure out how to get it to run in regular startup. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated .

A:Multiple Monitor/ Cracked main monitor help

You may need to enter the bios and enable the external monitor, or there may be the user option on the keyboard of using a key marked "fn". If you have a "fn" key there will also likely be a key, such as one of the number keys, for example, that will have an icon on it that resembles a monitor screen, maybe two screens. Using that key while holding down the "fn" will switch between monitors in most instances.

I have several folder trees each containing many sub-folders, say A, B, C, D and so on. The names of the sub-folders are mostly the same between the various folder trees, although there could be an X, Y, Z in one folder tree and not in others, or only 20 sub-folders in one folder tree and 40 in another.

Each sub-folder contains many files, most of which are the same as those in other sub-folders of the same name. For example, folder A in one tree may have 50 files, 40 of which are the same as sub-folder A located in another folder tree.

What I am trying to achieve is a single 'master' folder tree containing all of the sub-folders in each of the existing folder trees, each sub-folder containing all of the files in all of the sub-folders of that name, without any sub-folders or files in each sub-folder duplicated.

I can achieve exactly this by manually moving files to the corresponding sub-folder in the 'master' folder tree, clicking 'move and replace' and ticking 'do this for the next x conflicts', but it is tedious and very time consuming.

Thank you in anticipation that someone will know how to automate this otherwise laborious process.

I am using Access 2010 and Excel 2010. I need to have VB script to export the access table 502 records by 38 fields into Multiple Excel workbooks each having multiple tabs. I have several sets of folder trees, each with multiple sub-folders, each sub-folder containing multiple files. I would like to merge all of this into a single folder tree, retaining the same sub-folder structure and each sub-folder containing a single set of files, eliminating all of the inevitable duplicates that will arise from the merging.

Doing this manually with Windows Explorer is both tedious and time consuming. I have to select all of the files in one of the sub-folders, then drag the selection to the corresponding sub-folder in the main folder tree, choose 'move and replace' and tick 'do the same for the next x conflicts' and repeat this process for each of the many sub-folders.

Although I did an online search before posting this plea for help, I have only seen utilities that will merge all files in multiple folders into a single folder, I have not seen a utility that will do what I need.

I'm hoping that someone will know of a utility that will save me doing this manually for the next many years!

Thank you in anticipation.

Hello VBA experts. Need your help. I have a workbook with 14 worksheets. Each worksheet has several fields all named the same. I need to sort 3 fields in each worksheet. Those are ascending in this order; Patient ID (in column A), DOS (in column E) and Code (column B).
Does anyone know of a code that can easily sort all 14 tabs at once? The range of data in each worksheet are different. Some worksheets have very little data to sort while other worksheets have maybe a 2,000 rows of data.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Once again, my computer thinks it's been working correctly for too long

Here is the link to my previous thread: [SOLVED] Unknown BSOD from time to time

This time, it basically gives me a BSOD when the processor workload is higher than 20%, something runs out of memory or the computer has been idle for more than 15 mins. (Using YouTube, playing Games etc. etc.) Here are all the error reports:

PC specs:

Processor: AMD Athlon II x4 640
Installed Memory RAM: 4.00 GB (I don't know what manufacturer or model)
Motherboard: BIOSTAR GF8200E
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8200
DiskDrive: Hitachi HDS721050CLA362

As before, I have attached the needed files to the post. I was kind of stupid of me to mark the previous thread as [SOLVED] instantly.

I sure hope someone can provide, or direct me to the formula to accomplish the following in Xcel 2000.
I have a singe sheet consisting of 5,123 rows of data in 13 columns. A person has been maintaining this and we are about to convert it to cvs and install a text file in a CGI\Perl program to run on a web site. For some unknown reason the person who started and has been maintaining the file has set it up so that the first 3 columns contain data that should be all in one column. Here is an example: a ham radio call, we will say is: WW6XXX. In the first column (A), row 7, he has entered the prefix: "WW", in the second column, (B), row 7 he has entered the call district "6" and in the third column (C), row 7, he has entered the suffix "WWW".

I have inserted a blank column "D". I can combine, for example A7,B7 and C7 with the simple formula =A1&B1&C1 placed in D7. No problem.

Now the problem, and I'm sure you all ready can see it. I need to do this with all 5,123 rows. It certainly SEEMS, logically, that I should be able to accomplish this but durned if I've been able to do it. I have Googled, I have Jeeved it, you name it, I've tried it. I have found some "close calls" that almost answer it, but not the real answer.

Obviously I can do this 5,123 times, manually, but I'd rather find a simpler answer, if there is one.
Blessings to anyone who can provide me with the answer. This by the way, is for a... Read more

Also, Zone Alarm prompts me w/alerts regularly (esp. when I open a file or program) that <program name> is trying to access <something> which can track keystrokes, etc. I'm now also getting ZoneAlarm alerts saying that <random #s/letters> is trying to start automatically when I start the computer.

I've been having BSOD trouble over the past four or five months now. The BSODs typically happen once a week, sometimes twice, with small strings of daily crashes here and there. I'm at my wit's end when it comes to trying to figure out where the problem lies. All of my parts are under warranty, so I'm desperate to find out which one, if any, are at fault.

I've tested my hardware extensively. Memtest86 for 7 passes on multiple occasions, using different stick and slot combinations. Ran torture tests using Prime95 for the processor. All hard drive checks come back without problems. Ran Furmark on my video card with no artifacts.

The BSODs happen most commonly when using video playlists for both Windows Media Player and Media Player Classic, multiple types of files. They also sometimes occur when playing particular games (Borderlands II, Dark Souls). Installing a fresh copy of Windows 7 did not remove BSODs, even after running it in factory settings with no additional installations.

I have attached a dump file, and I thank whoever attempts to assist me.

A:Multiple BSODs, Multiple Bugchecks (0xD1, 0x3B, 0x50, 0x0A)

Hi anthonylert.

The versatility of the bugchecks are the indication of failing memory prima facie, but as you said you ran Memtest86, can you run the memtest86+?

Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.

If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.

Also, disable bluetooth,at least as a test. The Atheros bluetooth module is appearing to be failing.

Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.
Click on the Start button
Type ?msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the ?Startup? tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
Apply > OK
Accept then restart.
Let us know the results.
