Missing Messages in Auto Archive

Q: Missing Messages in Auto Archive

I have a strange problem. I have been using Auto Archive for several years, with no issues. Until now. I performed a search in my Sent Items for messages I sent to someone (I'll say Dave). My search yielded 0 results, even though I know I have sent several messages to Dave over the last couple of years. I noticed my entire Sent Items shows only 326 messages (it should be several thousand). I opened a message Dave sent me in April of 2013, to which I had sent a reply. I selected to Find Related Messages, and the received message as well as my reply were displayed. My reply was also sent in April of 2013, and Outlook showed that it is located in the Sent folder. I once again went into my Sent items, and it still only shows 236 messages, the oldest of which is April of 2014. Why would Outlook not display messages prior to that date? Is there a way to have all messages displayed? I really need all the messages I have sent (not just those to Dave), for legal purposes. Can someone help please?

I am using Windows 7 and Outlook 2010, connected to an Exchange Server. Thanks.

Preferred Solution: Missing Messages in Auto Archive

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Booyah to all you outlook brainiacs!

I use OUTLOOK for many email accounts, mostly POP but also Office365 and also to hook up with my corporate clients using exchange. (No - I'm not a great bit-twiddler anymore, I just work on business stuff.)

I run a Windows 7 notebook that I carry around.

Anyway, my auto-archive settings seem to be missing. I'm sure they used to be here somewhere. I would have thought they would be on File > Options > Advanced > somewhere here, but no (see attached).

I don't see any admin templates installed in GPEDIT.msc (not that I would install ANY policies on my personal laptop anyway.)

Can you help me run down the problem and get archiving working? THANKS!

A:How can i configure missing auto archive settings?

This might be one possible solution.

Have a look at this registry key in REGEDIT (Start, Run, Regedit)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\

In the right pane look for a keyword called DisablePst

If you have this key you can delete it, or set its value to 0 (zero)..

Then log out or reboot.

The version 14.0 corresponds to office 2010. Older versions have lower version numbers, but the keyword to look for is the same.

As always, it is best to backup your registry or create a manual restore point before making changes to the registry.

Help for a concerned mom. I want to "archive" my teenage son's instant messaging. I want to be able to see some recent messages he has had going with a certain individual. Is that possible with AOL instant messaging? I couldn't find the option. Or do you know of software I can purchase online that would allow me to do that. I don't want to read everything or forever, but lately I am concerned over a matter and just want my facts straight before I confront him. Thanks.

I use Outlook at work and have recently begun using a Pocket PC which allows me to synch with Outlook on my home computer and have my schedule there as well. The auto archive which occurs periodically at work erases all my past appointments periodically and the tech guys tell me it's not practical to get them back. This is frustrating because at times it would be helpful to see exactly what date I did something 8mo ago. I thought perhaps my home computer would maintain it, but I just noticed everything prior to Nov is gone now.

Is there a way to prevent the loss of this data - at least on my computer at home? I can't find a setting anywhere that sounds like it would do this.

Thanks in advance.

Does anyone have a good policy, strategy or routine for archiving? I know it defaults to 14 days, but what are some files and or folders users may want archived? I'd like to set up all of our users with basically the same archive, as it would be easier to manage from a support point of view.

Thanks for any input or suggestions.

I create folders uder the inbox according to how the user wants to identify e-mails, get them to drag and drop the mail into the various folders. I setup archiving on each folder and point it to their homedrive on the network calling it the same name as the file. It is a lot easier to manage as opossed to one archive, there is also a chance of the one big archive getting corrupted and the user losing all their mail.

Hello.

I use Microsoft Outlook 2007. It currently auto-archives my Deleted Items, Sent Items and Search Folders. I didn't set it up to do this, it just does it automatically.

I also want it to auto-archive my Inbox. I followed the help instructions to try and do this (Tools > Options > Other or right clicking the Inbox folder > Properties). However, I see no auto-archive options at all. The help says: Note Depending on your computer settings and add-ins, you might see different tabs in the Options dialog box.
But it does not explain how else I can change the auto-archive settings. Please could someone tell me how?

Can Messages in Outlook E-mail Archive Files be Manipulated

I'm a new member, and have searched the threads to see if there are posts on this topic, but have not found any, so I'm posting as a new thread --

System: WIN 98
Outlook version: 2000

While working with my Outlook 2000 E-mail to reduce the size of my folders on our LAN, I have created a number of different .pst Archive files on my hard disk (experimenting to learn how Archive works), but now I want to combine messages between them and/or delete some of them after moving the messages. However, I don't want to lose any of the original messages that were archived in these files. There are files with duplicate messages, etc., and I need to clean things up.

Problem is, it seems that once an archive file is created in Outlook, the messages that were archived there are not easy to move to another .pst archive file. It's easy to move messages between Outlook Folders (vrs. files) in Outlook itself, but moving the messages between Outlook folders does not change the path to the file from where they originated. I have experimented extensively to learn this. It's as if Outlook was designed for the user to establish permanent Archive files, and has no mechanism to easily move messages between files after they are created?

I have tried a couple of approaches to no avail: e.g. Trying to use the Archive feature to move messages between previously established .pst files does not work. Moving messages m... Read more

The best way I have found to do this is to export all of them to another email program like outlook express, then delete the ones you don't want and save the rest.

PLEASE HELP...

I have been converting my cd's to mp3s since the first winamp. This process has been extremely time consuming because I have many, many, many cds. Recently I have encountered a bug that continues to plague my priceless collection. I generally keep all my mp3 files in a single folder (over 6,000 files). I use winamp to access my media and create playlists for my mp3s. The problem seems to occur randomly. Very larger portions of my archive disappear when viewing my mp3 folder. Usually I will have ordered sections disappear. i.e (middle b - z gone). They almost seem deleted. The weird thing is that are still availible in a pre-created playlist or media list. Also, I can type the path name (if known) and access the file. I have tried many methods to backup the missing files but I cannot seem to crack this puzzle. Is there any software that might perform a deep scan of my HD for mp3 files and retrieve the missing ones? Then I might be able to back them up and look for a solution to this problem.

THakns!

I want to setup Outlook to automatically dial online every hour to check for new email messages. I have found how to setup Outlook, but I cannot get Dial-up Networking to automatically dial without prompting me for my password. I know there is a way to store the password and have it auto connect. How can I do this?

A:Auto check for messages

If you are bypassing the windows password when you login (in other words, just hitting "cancel" instead of using a password) your password list will not load with Windows. Therefore, your dial up networking password will not be available, and you will need to enter it manually.

To stop this, either use a Windows password, OR, better & easier yet, leave the box blank and hit OK instead of cancel. This will result in you not having to have a windows password, and allow your password list to load up. Once you have done that, you should be able to save your password in dial up networking and automatically connect however you have it set up in Outlook.

Hope this helps!

My wife is using Vista. She needs to find a message from a few months ago--less than 6---that she thinks may have been automatically archived. I found the archive folder in C:\users\username\appdata\local\microsoft\outlook but I cannot open it. The extension is .pst (I'm not 100% sure of the path nor the extension). I can't find a program that will open the archive.

She has several other archive folders that she made herself--the message she needs is not in those.

Can anyone give me some ideas?

Thanks,
James

NOTE: This thread needs to be moved to MS Office.

Hi yashamax.
I would use the Vista Search function and do a search for .pst and see what it finds.
If you find the archive.pst or personal folders.pst you need to open them with Outlook 2000/Xp/2003/2007.
To do so try Opening Outlook then go to File > Open > .PST then browse to where the .pst file is, highlight the .pst file then click OK. Now you should see the archive on the left side of the Outlook window.

Hi there,

I have recently been employed as system administrator for a small firm.

Most all of the machines run Windows Vista installed in Swedish.

Sometimes the users come to me with error messages that they have received on their screens. These messages, however, are in Swedish, which make it difficult to troubleshoot by posting the error message online in Microsoft related forums.

I was thinking maybe MS has some sort of automatic translation of these messages to facilitate international information exchange between sysadmins and other tech experts. I.e. I would like to take an error code or something from the message, type it into Google and then find the English translation of the error message.

Please provide advice.

Kind regards

Pongy

A:Auto translation of error messages in languages other than English

Hello, and welcome to the Vista Forums!

I am not sure if this is exactly what you want. If it is not, then by all means ask me again! Error coded have very specific meanings in all languages, and very specific translations. To look up the official translation, it is in winerror.h. System Error codes can be looked up: System Error Codes (Windows)

However, not all error codes are System Error Codes. It would often be better to use a tool to extract them from winerror.h. This will work with Windows Update HRESULTS, System Error codes, and more. This is the best way, and it is much faster. Just put in the error code, get out the error message, the official translation that everyone in the world with an English computer sees. Also, it should work the other way around, getting the Sweedish translation out of winerror.h for that computer. It is made by our very own member here. Very bottom of this page for download: FavesSoft Windows Utilities

Made by member "MilesAhead": http://www.vistax64.com/member.php?u=12748

I really hope this helps. Tell me if this is not quite what you meant. Do tell me if I did misunderstand.

P.S. Congratulations on the new job!

Hi .Some background on that file: http://www.pvegetah.com/tag/autovbs/The fact that there is a search for the file and it cannot be found...leads me to conclude that you have removed the malware item itself, but a startup prompt for it remains on your system. To eliminate that, you can try to use the tool AutoRuns for Windows - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinte...s/bb963902.aspx Download and install Autoruns and then go to the Logon tab. If you see an item that appears to relate to running that script, you can either disable or remove it.To be safe, I would temporarily disable any such item initially...then reboot and see if the same error message appears. If not, then it's reasonable to conclude that you have disabled the proper entry and you can then just delete it via Autoruns.Louis

Because some of the files were corrupt/didn't finish being compacted while others did.

The only way to get it back right now is data recovery software, and it's probably already too late for that considering how you've already used your computer after the incident.

When I turned my computer on this morning, Outlook Express locked up and had to be shut down. Upon restarting the program, I noticed that about a month's worth of mail was missing (from Oct 12 to Nov 15).

I've spent all day trying to find a solution. I've identified the location of the OE Files and tried copying the files from my inbox to another folder and then importing them. This resulted in duplicates of the files that were there when I started, but the missing messages were still missing.

I also tried renaming the old inbox, creating a new inbox, and copying the data from the old to the new and then using the new one. Interestingly, although I attempted to copy everything from the old to the new, the file size of the new one is much smaller. But my missing emails are still missing.

If anyone can recommend an inexpensive solution to this problem, I would appreciate it. We're a nonprofit animal rescue and the emails I lost included all of the applications on a litter of puppies I'm fostering, so I'm very anxious to recover them.

Thank you!

had pinned to my desktop and now for whatever reason I cannot view my messages via DeviantART (it is like Facebook, only for artists). I've restarted, rebooted, refreshed, logged off and then back on three times, retyped in the URL, but nothing I do can seem
to fix this problem. I can still view my messages on Gmail and on YouTube, but not on DeviantART. I know it isn't something with the website because I can view my messages on my laptop, but not my Surface. If anyone has any ideas as how to fix this or what
the problem might be, please help!

When my PC boots the programs all load, but some have to wait until the PC goes on line, and to do that I now have to click start > connect to > internet ADSL, I have checked and rechecked my settings and all seem ok, but the connect automatically box has gone missing, I'll be dammed if I can find it

Hello, I've just upgraded from Win2000 Professional to WinXP Professional and am using Outlook 2000 for my email. I can't seem to find out where the files are to import my old emails and folders.

A:Finding missing Outlook 200 Messages after Win XP Upgrade

Open Windows Explorer. Go to Tools, Folder Options and click on the View tab. Make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files". Now click "Apply to all folders" Click "Apply" then "OK".

Now search your hard drive for *.pst

It appears that for some reason I have lost the balloon messages that will pop up from the system tray for certain tasks. For example the yellow updates ready icon may show up in the tray but the message advising "updates are ready" or "you may continue working while installing" message will not show. If I am removing a USB drive I may hear the "chirp" that it is ready to remove but I will not get the message from the system tray that "the drive is ready to remove". Other warnings regarding lack of protection if antivirus/firewall is turned off while installing or the message that "new hardware has been found and installed" are also missing in action. Any ideas as to what setting might turn these on and off.
Thanks
Steve Rehmann

I have a Dell dimension 3000 computerwith windows xp and Norton Internet Security 2006.
I use Outlook Express for my emails. However twice in the past week when I opened the program the messages in my Inbox were missing. Also an unknown error
(An unknown error has occurred. Account: 'shawmail.cg.shawcable.net', Server: 'shawmail.cg.shawcable.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800C0133)
stopped me from downloading any new messages. I recovered the messages once using OE-Mail Recovery, but with the reoccurance of the problem I am looking for a better solution.

rundll32.exe - Unable To Locate Component

userinit.exe - Unable To Locate Component
This application has failed to start because mskslvkgaic.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

Additionally, I can't open email messages in my Hotmail account and my home page (MSNBC) will only partially load.

I have purchased several programs to solve these problems (Prevx Edge v.3.0.1.40 and RegCure), but nothing has worked. I also have the Webroot Antivirus w/AntiSpyware program, but I'm unable to run it.

Thanks in advance for any help. I'm really at a loss as to what to do next.

Hello,

could I please ask for your assistance as I think I could be infected by a virus(es). System behaviour is unexpected and too slow.
Apart of that at the system start there are issued few messages stating that XYZ.dll files were not found.

I have run kaspersky with following log, unfortunatelly I was not able to save the report on my PC for some reason and thus used copy+paste

My messages are listed in the Inbox/Outbox/Sent boxes, but, when you click on the message, the message contents do not appear, nor do they appear in preview pane.

I was deleting files from my drive, but don't recollect deleting any .dbx files. In fact, I can find .dbx files for the inbox, outbox, sent box etc which all show that they have contents. Can one open these .dbx files to see the contents?

What could I have done to have lost the message contents? Is there any way to restore the message contents.
