Solved: Macro in Excel help! Using CTRL+V inside a CTRL+F

Q: Solved: Macro in Excel help! Using CTRL+V inside a CTRL+F

Hi all!
I need help to use macros properly. It is my first attempt at doing this, and I don't understand what I am doing wrong.

I have found this thread which resembles my problem, but I still do not understand what to do
http://forums.techguy.org/business-applications/595235-solved-need-help-macro-using.html

Basically, I have 2 Excel spreadsheets open.
One is List A, the other is List B (Master List).

I have worker codes in List A, and have to find them in the B list to assign them a code (1) in column M.

What I did was go in my first spreadsheet, and selected the first worker code. Then, I started recording my Macro from there.
Ctrl+C worker code
Ctrl+Tab to second spreadsheet
Ctrl+F to open find box
Ctrl+V to paste the worker code copied from before
Close the search box
Cursor now over Worker code, Move over to column M by pressing the RIGHT arrow 12 times (from A to M)
Type "1" and then Enter
Ctrl+Tab to come back to first spreadsheet
Down Arrow to move on to next worker code
STOP MACRO

However, the Macro looks like this :
Selection.Copy
ActiveWindow.ActivateNext
Cells.Find(What:="A4WL7CPA3BRX5", After:=ActiveCell, LookIn:=xlFormulas, _
LookAt:=xlPart, SearchOrder:=xlByRows, SearchDirection:=xlNext, _
MatchCase:=False, SearchFormat:=False).Activate
Range("M1204").Select
Application.CutCopyMode = False
ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = "1"
Range("M1205").Select
ActiveWindow.ActivateNext
Range("P3").Select

In Bold, you see the specific worker code I had copy-pasted. So whenever I rerun the macro, it redoes the same worker code over and over again, and doesn't seem to go with "whatever was just copied", but rather with "this one worker code you recorded". Also, the "range select" seems to specifically select this ONE cell, instead of moving over by 12 cells (from cell A# we just worked hard to find, to its corresponding M#).

Is there a way to have the macro just follow the EXACT steps I listed above, and stop looking for that one specific worker code? To just copy, and then paste whatever it just copied, find that, and go from there? It seems like Excel Macros were recording very specific cell values and text when it rather should stay open and variable depending on what just got copied.

Thank you very much for your help!
It is greatly appreciated

A grad student looking to save hours of time doing this,
JC

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Solved: Macro in Excel help! Using CTRL+V inside a CTRL+F

Macro recorder only record specific actions, not generic actions.
So you can't use it to repeat the steps for other cells.
You have to code it specifically in VBA.

As for your case you can have a lookup formula in column M of the Master list to do the check.

eg in cell M12 of List B, type
=COUNTIF('
[List A.xlsm]Sheet1'!A:A,A12)

this goes to your List A first column to count the number of instances the value in cell A12 occurs.
Assuming there is no duplicate, the result is either 1 if found or 0 if not found.

If there are more than one instances in List A, the formula can be adapted to
=(COUNTIF('
[List A.xlsm]Sheet1'!A:A,A12)>0)*1

*1 will ensure that the result which is True or False becomes 1 or 0.

Yoga 2-11 Yesterday the CTRL-C, CTRL-X, and ALT-CTRL-DEL functions stopped working; strangely CTRL-V works fine. It's very difficult to get the @  and ? symbols to appear, but capital letters using the same Shift key are fine. Also, when I would type, several of the same letter would appear, and when pressing the space bar several spaces would appear. I fixed this issue by adjusting my keyboard settings by setting the repeat rating to the slowest setting. I've used device manager to uninstall the keyboard, also updated drivers, etc, but nothing seems to fix things. Using Windows Key R and OSK to display the onscreen keyboard, and using my physical keyboard for input confirms that the Shift and CTRL keys work. One thing that I noticed: when I touch the CTRL key a round onscreen circle appears and gets smaller and disappears; this is also true for CTRL-X and CTRL-C, but when using CTRL-V the circle does not appear.

Sir
I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop with Windows 8 and Internet Explorer 10 installed.

In Google search box, when I type Ctrl+Z( for undo), it does NOT work. Neither does Ctrl+Y( for redo). When I type Ctrl+backspace for deleting the preceding word, it works perfectly, but when I type Ctrl+Delete to delete the following word, it does NOT work at all. Kindly help me out of this problem.

In Notepad, Ctrl+Z( undo) works but Ctrl+Y(redo) does not. Neither does Ctrl+backspace(to delete the preceding word) but Ctrl+Delete(to delete the following word) works perfectly.

I don't know why some shortcut keys work and some don't. Please tell me how to make all these shortcut keys work in Google search box as well as in Notepad.

Yours sincerely

Hello, I'm a new member who has stumbled upon this place in a desperate search for a simple answer!

I am recording a macro (I can write adjustments, but don't generally try to write macro's from scratch).

I have tried to explain what I want it to do below (it works as I am recording it, but when I change data and then try to run it, the thing fails)

Select Sheet 1
Select cell B1
Copy cell B1
Select Sheet 2
Select Column B
Find (control-f)
Paste (ie the data copied from cell B1 in sheet 1, to be pasted into the find function)
Find next (so that the cell selected matches the data pasted into find)

The data in cell B1 gets changed, hence using the ctrl-c,ctrl-f,ctrl-v combo, but when recorded the "ctrl-v" part doesn't show as a paste, but rather a find for the data as it was when I recorded the macro (which as mentioned, gets changed by the user).

Anyone able to point me in the right direction?

Hi... I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 on my Dell Inspiron 1720 with a tricked out Firefox 3 with a bunch of extensions, and all of a sudden today I started notice that Ctrl + S and Ctrl + F, 2 keyboard shortcuts that I use ALL THE TIME, are no longer working in ANY APPLICATION. The F and Control keys are working fine separately and other common shortcuts such as Ctrl + C, V, A, O, and P are working just fine.

I've tried it in Firefox, Internet Explorer, Notepad, Paint and Dreamweaver and Ctrl + S and Ctrl + F don't work in either one of those applications. The weird thing is without doing much of anything, it was working at some point today after I had noticed it WASN'T working, but now I rebooted for another reason and those 2 shortcuts are not working again.

By the way, I went into Vista's Ease of Access center (previously called Accessibility I believe), and everything is turned off.

And I also tried the control key to the right of my keyboard. None of it works.

Very annoying... Anyone got any ideas or know of any app that will help me find out what the problem is?

Thank you very much in advance, any help's appreciated

Thread title pretty much sums it up: CTRL-A disabled, CTRL Key Works, A Key Works, Other CTRL-combos work. I use CTRL-V, CTRL-C, CTRL-Z, etc all the time.

CTRL-A has never worked for me, in any application. Instead of selecting all, CTRL-A pastes, the same as CTRL-V, only when you use CTRL-A, in addition to pasting, it also makes a system sound, kind of like a knock sound. Out of desperation to identify the sound I looked control panel sounds and listened to all of them, it's not there.

I've never really needed CTRL-A until now because I'm wanting to use a specific application that has no other way to select all except CTRL-A, so I'm now desperate...

Any help will be much appreciated.

Hi There

I need some explanation as to why this is happening. I copied a few rows of data from one workbook to another workbook. I then did a Ctrl F and typed in the content of the cell that I want to find in the "Find What" box. It worked OK if I did not check the "Find entire cell only" box but it could not find the contents of the cell if I checked the "Find entire cell only" box. This has me stumped. I checked the alignment, font etc and everything matched perfectly from both workbooks. I then typed in 00 132 in cell A9 did a Ctrl F and typed in 00 132 in the "Find what" box and it found the 00 132 in Cell A9 but failed to find the other 00 132 in Cell A2. Why is this happening?? I have attached both workbooks. Both workbooks are in Excel 2000.

On several occassions I have lost the functionality of the keystroke Ctrl Y in Excel. It usually happens when I "fat finger" the Ctrl Y keystroke. Unfortunately I do not know what miss-stroke I am making. All attempts to get the functionality back fail except for creating a new spreadsheet and copying the entire spreadsheet to the new one. Does anyone have any idea as to what is happening and how I can undo whatever I have done to get the functionality back? Ater this happens using the menu to repeat does not work either.

I am using OS XP Pro and Office Pro. I use this keystroke for pasting financial figures from my mutual funds web site to my spreadsheet. I first use Special Paste, Text to begin and there after use Ctrl Y. So being able to use Ctrl Y is a real keystroke saver.

A:Solved: Lost of Ctrl Y function in Excel

This is what Ctrl Y does
CTRL+Y Repeats the last command or action, if possible.
You may have possibly done another Command or Action and to make it work again you need to do a Paste Special again.

Hello. I encountered a weird problem.

I recently bough Acer Aspire 5734Z with Windows 7 Home Edition installed. When I type CTRL + C or CTRL + V my touchpad stops working for a few seconds. Then it get back to normal. And Except this the functions of ctrl + c and ctrl + v works.

This happens all the time, no matter how much I copy, I can copy nothing doing just the combination and my touch pad freezes.

When playing games as GTA Vice City I have problems using WASD movement at the same time as I adjust the screen(camera) with touch pad. Suddenly lot of combinations stop working, and I have to either stop walking around (WASD combinations) and use touchpad to adjust screen, then stop using touchpad and go back to using WASD.

I hope you understand. I am not very good at explaining things. And I really hope to find a solution to this.

When I did first-run of the laptop, the touchpad didnt have scrolling function working. So I went to acer.com, found my computer model, selected Windows 7 Home Edition and installed the newest touchpad driver 64bit. And it worked. Scrolling working. But freezing problems still occurs. Hi There

I have a problem with the attached spread sheet. I am trying to use the Ctrl + Find in a macro and it gives me an error if it does not find what it is looking for. Using the "On Error Resume Next" alleviates the error message but it screws up the logic of my macro. T

Work with the attached sheet and you will see what I mean. Using the "On Error Resume Next" line, the macro just keeps on copying the "a" over and over until the macro ends. This is not the intention of the macro. When the Macro does not find the number 1 in Sheet 1, it should go to the next cell down in Sheet 2 etc until it reaches a blank cell and then the macro stops.

Any help would be appreciated. The attached spreadsheet is an example only. I need to use the Ctrl + Find in the macro since it makes the macro run faster due to over 1000 records.

I could use the Do....Loop Until the ActivCell = Range("C1") and then do the copy paste but this method takes forever to go through all the records until it finds the right ones.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I hope I attached the Excel workbook properly.

The XPS 15-9530 keyboard requires that you hold the Function key to do home/end (Function+Left is Home and Function+Right is End).  That works fine, but I have found that if Ctrl+Home and Ctrl+End are a bit finicky.  Specifically, the key order I have to press to do a Ctrl+Home is Ctrl then Function then Left.  If I do Function then Ctrl then Left, it only sends a Home and not a Ctrl+Home.  Is there any way to work around this?  It's a bit annoying to have my Ctrl+Home and Ctrl+End fail so often while I'm retraining myself.

My remote desktop session does not appear to be sending the ctrl+alt+left (CAL) or ctrl+alt+right (CAR) combinations to the target machine.

Yesterday everything worked fine. I installed Windows Vista Ultimate 64 and could successfully RD to my laptop machine, which is running XP Pro SP2. CAL and CAR worked.

Today I installed SP1 on the Vista machine. Now my RD won't sent CAL or CAR.

I downloaded a simple keyboard tester application and installed it on both machines. Locally on the Vista machine, CAL and CAR are detected. Same thing locally on the XP machine. When I RD from Vista to XP and try the keyboard test the program shoes that it is receiving the CTRL+ALT combination but doesn't register when I hit the left or right arrow key at the same time. Interestingly, the up and down arrows *do* register.

I tried the RD connection from XP to Vista. Everything works normally. I tried an RD connection from another XP SP2 machine to my laptop. It works.

Any ideas? Is there some sort of key binding in Vista that takes the CAL and CAR combinations before RD can get them? Is RD in Vista 64 filtering them out for some reason?

Thanks

When she presses the button to export to excel, the file will only open if she is holding the CTRL key down. If she does not then she just never gets the option to download the file or open it in excel.

The computer is a windows 7 computer. In Windows XP this was corrected by deselecting "Confirm open after download" for the .xls file type. Does anyone know what the equivalent would be in windows 7? I've tried adding the site as a trusted site because I assume its a security issue, but that didn't help

Thanks

This article didn't fix it for me:

ctrl-end in Excel 2002 doesn't work
http://forums.techguy.org/business-applications/207330-ctrl-end-excel-2002-doesnt.html

. . . but I figured it out and wanted to share

***************************************************************************

Somehow, invisible characters get in there, so when you do Ctrl+End, it will throw you into the bottom right somewhere, just not in the bottom right of your data.

Sometimes you can just delete a few rows and columns around where it takes you, go back to cell A1 and save (that resets it).

What puzzled me this last time, which is how I found the above article, is that that didn't work.

Here's what to do.

***************************************************************************

First, try this:

1) go to the bottom right of your data manually
2) arrow down 25 or so rows to give you some room
3) highlight the entire row directly underneath your data
4) Shift+Arrow Down a few rows . . . keeping Shift held down, press Ctrl+Arrow Down - that highlights everything below, down to row 65,536 (keeping the Shift key held down, you can arrow up)
5) right-click on the highlighted area, and select Clear Contents

Now do this for the seemingly empty columns / cells to the right of your data . . .

1) go to the column to the right of your data manually
2) highlight the entire column
4) Shift+Arrow Right a few columns . . . keeping Shift held down, press Ctrl+Arrow Right - that highlight... Read more

Recently i've encountered this problem with CTRL C and V unable to copy or paste anything anywhere. Able to do so with mouse where right click copy paste works for that. CTRL F works which means ctrl button is functional. i've tried restoring to an earlier restore point, ran SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker but no errors. I still can't solve this problem.. I've clicked on all the relevant search results from google but none works for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:ctrl c ctrl v not working.

Do CTRL-C , that should place something in clipboard. Then paste by using mouse right click->paste. Works?

Right click and select copy. Then paste using CTRL-V. Works?

Hello,

Running a brand new ASUS windows 8 based desktop. CTRL+C and CTRL+V work only partially, when I am using them many times they don't paste or copy (though they do some of the time) but they make my browser open a window or switch tabs or like make the right click menu pop up. It is so bizarre, I don't know if it's a bug or what, has anyone else experienced this? It is very annoying when I am so used to doing it.

A:CTRL+C and CTRL+V Problems

Hello kjelljs,

FYI, I have not experienced that problem. The ctrl +c and ctrl +v work consistently for me. I guess the best thing is to try (at this point) is another keyboard (if you have one available) and if you are currently using a wireless keyboard, maybe try a wired version. Good luck.

I have an HP envy laptop less than 6months old operating on windows 8 and my Ctrl key doesn't work as it should.I know the Ctrl key itself is not broken as it works when pressing Ctrl + Alt + Delete or Ctrl + Left mouse key to open links in new tab and Ctrl + P to print. However the shortcuts as Ctrl + C, Ctrl + V, Ctrl + X don't work at all. This is the case in all programmes including word, Excel and Firefox. Ctrl + Insert and Shift + Insert do work for copy and paste function but frankly they are far less convenient. Any suggestions would be greatly apprectiated as it's very frustrating. Thank you

Hello jc84ox,

You?re not able to use your copy and paste function.

Go to device manager and uninstall the keyboard. Restart the computer.

Do a hard reset.
Once the computer is off.
Remove the power cable and the battery.
Hold down the power button for 15 sec while booth power sources are removed.

This should reset the hardware in the computer.

Turn the computer back on.

Open up command prompt and run the following command SFC /scannow.

This will scan the system files and correct any errors that it can.

Here is a link to command prompt.

When you go to open command prompt, right click and run as administrator.

If the function was working in the past you might try a system restore.

This will take the system back to when everything was working correctly without affecting your personal files.

Windows 8 has a new feature which will uninstall and reinstall windows without affecting your files.

Here is a link to both options if you would like to give either of them a try.

Clicking the White Kudos star on the left is a way to say Thanks!

Let me know how everything goes.

Have a good day.

I would like to change the wording on the Windows 7 logon page from "Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to unlock this computer" to "Press CTRL+ALT+INSERT to unlock this computer". My company uses a lot of VMware View desktops and it's tedious to continually inform users of the keystrokes. I have searched through the forums here and cannot find the file that I need to configure. I have downloaded Resource Hacker and love it but I just need the file name. Can anyone point me in the right direction or let me know if this is even possible?

Thanks

A:Change "CTRL+ALT+DELETE" wording to "CTRL+ALT+INSERT"

You could do what we do here at work. We turn it off. It doesn't actually protect anything these days, just an annoyance.

Secure Logon - Press CTRL + ALT + DELETE to log on

Is there available in Windows 7 Home Premium a Ctrl C that will copy not just a selected text (or image) but an entire frame from an internet article? I am aware that one can "Select all" from a right-click menu, but that choice selects all including the frames that border on the left and right of the text of interest; usually the central frame. I want to select all only of the frame that interests me so that I can paste it into my word processor and read it in a larger font or print it, as I like.

I have found that I can copy the entire central frame with Ctrl C, but I must do it in a sequence of copy and paste steps, adding each segment successively. Not a terrible burden, but it would be better if it could be done in one copy and paste.

The fastest way to capture what's currently in the browser window is to press Alt+Print Screen in Windows to copy the currently active window,...Then open any image processor (such as Paint in Windows) and press Ctrl+V to paste the window or desktop capture into a new file. Save the file as a JPEG, PNG, BMP, or other image format.Click to expand...

My control keys have started playing up today. When I hold it down for more than a couple of seconds and try to select something, nothing happens. It works fine with other combinations (eg ctrl+shift+esc), so it's not that my keyboard is knackered. Is there a setting somewhere that may have been changed which is causing this?

I can't ctrl-c to copy text.
I can right-click and then click on copy though.

I thought that the ctrl key is broken but ctrl-x, ctrl-v, ctrl-f, etc works.
I tried other profiles and it is still the same.
I did system restore and a virus scan but it still doesn't work.

I haven't tried changing the keyboard yet though I'm not very optimistic that it will work since the ctrl key seems fine.

Any other ideas?

I was helping my sister get used to her computer. Her other half passed away a few months ago who was the one that set everything up..but anyway She has a Dell Dimension running XP home. I was just making sure she had all the right protection, updates etc...and when I hit CTRL-ALT-DELETE to get to the task manager to see what was running, nothing came up exept an error message saying that the task manager has been turned off by the admin. But not even the window came up with the task manager updated (ie..lock computer, change password etc.) She can shut it down through the Start key, but was wondering if there was an option somewhere to turn that back on and have all the options come back up. I did a lot of searching and did find the registry key to enable/diable task manager which I can do, but was just wondering if by enabling that would allow the whole options window to come back up. I didn't get to try it yet because I was there yesterday and searched at home today but was just wondering if there was an option I am missing that just turns that whole window on or off, not just the task manager. Sorry for the long winded note, but I have never come across this again, so wanted to check with you all before I did anything. Thanks!! PS I do have her set up on windows messenger so I can do it from here when she gets home later..She lives an hour from here, so it is so much easier that way...more than you all wanted to know...
