Solved: Fast speed, slow browsing

Q: Solved: Fast speed, slow browsing

I've looked at all the solutions here and elsewhere for a solution to my problem, I've tried everything, disabled addons, deleted browsers and reinstalled, no proxy, starting in safe mode etc. My most recent speed is fast, 32.4 down, latency 20ms, but ALL my browsers take forever to load pages. Some take 10 seconds or more. Status bar says "waiting for..." or "transferring from..." I'm using wireless.

If I stop and reload, the pages will load quickly. I have used other WIFI besides mine and the problem is the same, so it's not a router issue. I also used an external usb wifi adapter and that didn't make a difference. Right now I'm at a friend's place and it's the same issue and I'm sitting about 5 feet away from the router.

Toshiba laptop: 1.7 MHZ, 4 GB RAM, WIndows 8/64bit.

It's driving me nuts.

Any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Extremely slow browsing speed but fast download speed????

Please click HERE to download and install HijackThis.

Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile from the Main Menu.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do not fix anything

If Windows is denying access to the Hosts file, disable the UAC and run HijackThis again.

I have a problem with my PC that has been bugging me for a long time.
My web browsing is painfully slow on some sites (SharePoint, sage, office 365, linked in etc. etc.),
But works fine for others (porn sites, YouTube, google search, eBay, Facebook etc. etc.).
It is really annoying as my PC isn?t that old, and isn?t a bad spec.
It?s really frustrating as it makes working a real pain.
Can anyone help please?
I really don?t know how to get this sorted?.

A:Slow web browsing, but fast download speed - help!

Is this a Home or Work computer since you've mentioned these programs - SharePoint, sage, office 365? Reason I ask, we use SharePoint at work, Sage is an ERP software and so as Office 365.

I have two HP Minis (2102 & 110-1025DX) that are both slow browsing the internet, but have very fast internet connection speeds. I have done all the "performance tips" possible I believe:Upgraded RAM to 2GB on both devices,Upgraded wireless adapters to "N" cards,Upgraded HDDs to 7200RPM,Adjusted Windows Advanced Settings to "Best Performance",Ensured all drivers are latest,Use Google Chrome, all extensions removed, "hardware eacceleration disabled, latest revision checked, cache cleared, etc. Microsoft Edge is even slower,Internet speeds (per Speedtest.net) average about 25-32Mbps download, 12Mbps uploadRun browser with no other open programs/apps,Tested processors (Intel Atoms) with Intel Diagnostic Tool, all "PASS",So I've been at a loss why web browsing is so slow. Some "simpler" web pages load okay (2-5 seconds) while a more graphic intense sight like the nfl site or YouTube takes 20-30 seconds to load. Sometimes even more. Even trying to scroll down a page causes buffering to start, and the wait can be the same 20-30 seconds or more. Is it that these Intel Atom processors simply can't handle the "work"? Perhaps the graphics can't handle the web pages? I do notice that the CPUs will max out at 99% when opening Chrome. But even when CPU settles down to less than 10%, web browsing is still very slow.I have other devices with (seemingly) lesser hardware, and they work fine. Even devices with "g" adapters, less CPU GHz, etc.browse normally. Why is... Read more

Ok, a little weird replying to my own question, but I think I found something that may help others with this issue. I went into Device Manager>Network Adapters>"wireless" (depending upon your adapter)>Properties, then into Advanced using the Advanced tab.My Receive and Transmission Buffer settings were at "256"; I changed them to 512 (max allowed), clicked "OK". I also changed the "AdHoc Mode" to 11n from 11b. I then restarted the Mini 2102. I noticed an immediate web browsing speed increase. I would not call it blazing, but pretty close to what would be "normal" browsing speeds. The "Buffer" settings regulate and limit how much memory the network adapter can use. I noticed a jump in memory usage for Google Chrome, but the overall usage was at max about 60% of the 2GB installed. So far this has been the most dramatic performance increase for web browsing. Even more so  than upgrading the wireless card from "g" to "n:I hope this may help someone else with this issue. Let me know if it does help.

Set the MTU in the router itself to 1492

Analyzer is saying that my MTU is 1460, but in my router and in my NIC it is 1500Click to expand...

the normal value for DSL is 1492, and 1460 is INVALID = = must be a multiple of 8.

Manually set {1472 or 1464} in the router.

The article cited has good info but I would opt for all the defaults.

Can someone explain why browsing the internet on my Win 7 PC is slow as molasses at times, but I can stream a full HD movie for 2 hours to my Apple TV without a glitch? Hello all,

Have been searching for days trying to figure my problem but can't find the solution.

ISP provides us with 20 mb/s download speed. Both Toshiba laptops used to be able to attain this but after reinstalling windows xp on this laptop, it can only achieve 8mb/s. The other laptop will get 20 mb/s whether connected wired or wireless. For the life of me cannot figure what has changed. I have installed all windows updates including SP3 and updated all drivers via Toshiba and Intel websites. It uses the Intel 3945b/g network card and the router is a motorola sbg 6580.

Here is what I have done so far:
Connecting wired will achieve 20mb/s so it has something to do with the wireless setup.
Have tried connecting to router with WPA, WPA2, and no encryption but makes no difference.
Testing right beside the router or 30ft away makes no difference.
Have uninstalled/reinstalled network card but made no difference

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you

Last week I have purchased a WD 2TB Green Drive as well as a non-raid capable raid card Rosewill RC-212; since my older PC (WinXP32, Celeron D, 1GB RAM) does not have SATA ports. I have installed fresh drivers form Rosewills? website even though they are not needed for non-raid configurations. The PC recognized the card right away as well as the HDD. The write speeds are as expected, however the read speeds are between 300KB and 2500KB. I cannot figure out why the read speeds do not exceed 2.5MB? I have plugged the HDD as an external drive via USB and the read/write speeds are as expected. Anyone knows why and how to fix it?

I have tried 1TB WD green drive (1.5-year old) and it works as expected.

Update 2:
I have just spoken with Rosewill tech and he said that using PCI card and such a large drive it is expected to be slow. Personally I believe it is B.S. You?

P.S. for moderators: I have similar thread under storage and networking, but it no longer applies as such issue. Please delete it.

A:My 2TB WD Green has fast write speed but slow read speed

The Rosewill card's transfer rate is "up to 1.5GB/s." The WD hard drive's is 3.0Gb/s. Perhaps if you set the jumper on the 5-6 pins to activate the 1.5GB/s rate per this instruction: Western Digital.

Hi, welcome to this forum!

Please visit this site to measure the real speed of the connection. When done please post the results here.
Internet providers (who gives you the internet) usually make an offer of x speed internet but they only guarantee you to get much less. So the speed might change up and down sometimes. If the internet is still very slow please read the details of your agreement with the internet provider. But first give us the speed results from that site

Scientific Atlanta 2100 Modem with Windows XP SP2 (All hardware and software in itself up to date.)

Here is the problem, about 4 days after getting comcast cable setup after moving, I noticed browsing the internet was about the same speed as if I was on dialup. The thing about it is, I can DL a 700mb file in minutes (ie: 819kb/s). Also to put things in to perspective, I can connect to IRC at normal speeds depending on servers of course. It is a strange thing. I use firefox, but have tried explorer and it has the same slow dialup speeds. It is all too confusing to me, and I don't want to start uninstalling or formatting unless I know software, drivers, or etc is the problem.

Hi, i am stuck at a hospital for the next 3 weeks and i am using their lan connection and it seems to be sucking more than anything i have known to suck before.

Here is the problem. Pages are taking forever to load. I can't bring up some websites like www.t-mobile.com. other pages takes up to a minute to load and most times it ends up with "cannot find server" or "this page cannot be displayed"

I just completely reformatted my harddrive and reinstalled windows xp home sp1. i downloaded sp2 and all windows updats including a new update for my nic card. i can download files like from microsoft or download.com or filehippo at speeds of 200kb or more, so i don't think it's a bandwidth issue. I have also ran download bandwith tests and i've scored around 450kb to 500 kb. i'm guessing that it is the network itself, but there is nothing i can do about the network. Is there any adjustments that i can make to my laptop that can adjust to the network conditions? I know my laptop works fine cause it works great at home and i didn;t make any changes when i came here.

Hello, iv come to ask for help cause iv searched google for like expenices and answer, and got tired, and iv ran out of ideas. any insight would be much appreciated. k so, i got this nice up to date computer a couple of months ago, and everything was good. then my sister moves back in the house, and i tried to hook up her d-link wireless router. i plugged everything in but all the lights on the router were on it. So im like okay that cant be right so i unplug it all, then when i went to plug the power on it back in, something sparked, and the thing wont turn on anymore so im sure its shot. anyway so i hook up my cable modem and when i try to download stuff its really slow like it used to by 500kb/sec now 32kb/sec..0_o. and on youtube the videos will stop buffering at random places. i reset the modem and it helped a little. At like 1am or so in the morning last night it was working just fine again. it sounds like other neighbouring comps are tapping into it or something, but i dont see anything in my network center or what ever that would say there were. iv scanned for viruses. and iv reset my comp back a few days before the prolem started as well. i dont know what to do.

Im using verizon fios if it matters.

thanks for any help.

Firefox was getting slow to respond so I built a new computer trying to speed it up. Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, Intel core i7 5820k, 16GB quad channel ram, ssd drive for OS, 1TB drive for storage, 46Mbps (tested) internet speed, etc. etc. But my browser still responds slowly sometimes. One thought that occurs is is NSA hacking me because I'm not an Obama fan? I've tried other browsers and they all act the same. I've tried tweaking Firefox. Nothing has helped. HELP. Any ideas?

Hey folks.
I have recently came across this problem where the browsing is all slow. I noticed this when I was viewing YouTube videos. It takes ages for them to load, whereas a few weeks back it was all ok.

The strange thing is, I have been downloading things (with lets say utorrent) and the speed seems just fine. I have also tried different browsers with no luck.

Any suggestions on what is wrong? I am posting my Hijack log.

Thanks a lot.

Hi there,
So for the past week, all of a sudden my internet has gone slow. So i checked on speedtest.net what my speed was and its fine: 11.47 mbps. Like
going onto websites that have a lot of images, scripts takes FOREVER to download, as towards bottom of browser a little bar says "waiting for ... cache/extension" etc . BUT going on simple page like Google works OK, still not as fast as it used to
be. [P.S. Family members using the internet on their laptops is fine, just for me it isn't]

I have been checking around other issues, and doing MANY things to figure it out, and now getting the hint that it may be to do with my DNS settings
or something (no idea about things like this) .. here are any details that might help any of you to understand more, as well as a list of what I've been doing :

I use Google ChromeComputer is Windows VistaI have cleared all cache, history, data, still not helpingMy IPv4 / 6 are both on automaticChanging it to manual and typing in IP addresses [found on other forums] still do not workI did do a ping.test, and I got this: Unable to test packet loss!I also downloaded 'Connectivity diagnostic' from Google extensions, and did a test, this came back: DNS resolution took longer than averageDisabled my AVG AntiVirus, but still doesn't workOpened cmd.exe, and typed ipconfig: this is the connection 4 settings [which is the main thing that counts i think]

A:Internet speedtest fast, but browsing extremely slow ?

Hi, yes I had tried that before, but it still doesn't work - However, I just started my computer in 'safe mode with networking' and my internet seemed to load fine, as well as other websites ?? But it still does not work, when I start it normally

So I uninstalled AVG completely. and downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials. I thereby unchecked everything from the start up tab, restarted computer- and STILL internet doesn't work 0_0

As well as disabling all Startup items in msconfig, you should in addition try disabling all non-Microsoft services by selecting the "Services" tab and checking the "Hide all Microsoft services" checkbox then unchecking all remaining services
above. Reboot and check your connection. If you see improvement start re-enabling services abd start-up items in between reboots until you find the problem. See Vista section and "How to determine what is causing the problem by performing a clean boot"
section in:

If no improvement is seen with all non-Microsoft services and all startup items disabled, check system files by entering "sfc /scannow" in an elevated command prompt (right click Command prompt shortcut and select "Run as Administrator").

Hello, first off I would like to say hello to the Tech Support forums for this is my first post here. Secondly i am sorry if my problem has been discussed and solved already but I have been trying to get this solved for the past 5 days and I'm a wee bit short of the patience to flip through a bunch of pages to find the thread.

Alright so here is my problem. My internet browsing speed is very slow, it takes about 3-4 min to completely load a page. Sometimes it just gives up and doesn't even completely load it. I have tried many many things and recently just formatted my computer early today. That didn't solve my problem so i figured i would give my ISP a call. They didn't know what was up either so now i am pretty stumped.

I have tried using Firefox and nothing changed, I've done pretty much everything i can think of. My computer runs on DSL and is connected through a modem, there is another computer in the house connected wirelessely and it is working excellent. My download speed is sitting around 400 kb/s, i have updated all my network drivers, done about 100 virus scans and ad-aware scans. I have a Dell Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz Processor with 1gb of RAM and a 140gb hard drive. My last hope, though a slim one, was that McAfee firewall was doing some funky stuff (even though there were not any problems with it earlier). So i turned it off and nothing happened, big surprise.

I am really at a dead end here and I don't know what else to try, so if anyone has any ideas of what... Read more

A:My web browsing speed too slow.

You could try Opera it has a Turbo feature.

When Opera Turbo is enabled, webpages are compressed via Opera's servers so that they use much less data than the originals. This means that there is less to download, so you can see your webpages more quickly.

I installed windows 7 64-bit the other day and i've noticed that browsing the internet is VERY difficult. Sometimes pages will only half load (missing graphics etc) or not load at all. I have tried chrome, IE and firefox and they all have the same issues. As another example, no youtube videos load anymore it just gives me an error. I know my internet isn't this slow because it never has been and i haven't changed anything, if i'm downloading files from the internet I can get decent speeds, its just browsing that is the real pain. I have looked for solutions to the problem, and i've tried them but they don't seem to work, one told me to add these two keys to my registry, one told me to type something into command prompt others have told me to disable windows update and nothing has solved it. Any help would be appreciated.

I used to have DSLExtreme 18 Mbps, using Speedtest.net on ethernet I would get a steady 15-16 Mbps down, wifi was steadily 14-16 as well. I recently switched to Charter Spectrum 200 Mbps, and now I get 40-80 on ethernet and 11-18 on wifi.

All my computers are pretty old, all run Windows XP, I have a Dell Dimension e510 with a Pentium 4 & 1 GB RAM, Dell Inspiron b130 laptop with a Celeron M & 1 GB, Dell Latitude x600 with a Pentium M & 632 MB RAM, And and IBM Thinkpad t40 with a Pentium M & 1 GB.

Now I know that's slow by today's standards, I've heard many people say you can't even run XP with 1 GB. But I can play many games on the highest settings smoothly with the Dimension e510. I do a lot of 3D graphics stuff on it as well. It's quite powerful for it's age. I have a bit of a hard time believing that it can't handle a 200 Mbps connection.

The laptops are all connected by wifi except for the b130. I tried the Thinkpad on ethernet as well, and I get similar speeds on all of them for ethernet and wifi. I run a speed test once and get 86 Mbps on ethernet, run it immediately again and get 30 Mbps. Upload ranges from .90 to 12 Mbps. Wifi gets 11 down once, 18 down the next, .90 up the next, 11 up the next.
It also seems to run better when I have all of my devices connected and in use at once than it does with nothing connected but a PC directly to the modem or router.

I also randomly get socket errors for both download and up... Read more

Could someone please help me?

My ISP is Videotron (I live in Quebec), and I have a D-LINK DIR-615 Wireless N. My internet connection is just over 10 megabits per second, averaging a download speed of 1150 kilobytes per second, which remains unchanged, (multiple speed tests, downloads and torrents).

About a month ago, when watching videos on YouTube, they started streaming at extremely low speeds, making videos that used to finished streaming in seconds completely unwatchable.

I have restarted my router, modem, Anti-Virus (with firewall - Kaspersky Internet Security 2010) and computer several times and it didn't help. The only thing that did help was plugging my computer directly into the modem, which returned the speeds to normal.

However, I have 3 friends, all of which have Videotron, but not D-LINK routers, experiencing the same problem. Videotron does not throttle, and I have not changed computers, routers, modems, operating systems, virus protection software or internet browser since long before the problem began.

Please help, I feel like I have a dial-up connection.

Okay so i know this most likely isn't my internet provide. i have high speed internet from charter(i know they are not the best but more on that later) with actually download speeds tested online around 10-13mbps on average. i keep my computer pretty clean, running smart defrag, cleaning the disk, anti virus, only have programs running in the background that are needed, have increased my virtual memory and also use readyboost with a 4 gb flashdrive that i allow to use all the flashdrive memory as "ram" memory. so i think this has be something below the surface and that i cannot handle on my own. i do not think it is my internet provider because i have to roommates that have computers(mac... :/) and they have no problem usually with the internet. when i say usually i mean they have problems sometimes maybe 3-4 times weekly where i have problems at least 2-3 times a day. if you need any other information i willing to provide it or run diagnostics as long as you tell me how. please help me, i am not a computer idiot. i have a decent understanding and could really use some good help. thanks!

To be honest, unless your computer is running very badly it will not have a dramatic effect on the speed of your net connection. With having other people connected to the same internet connection the only way to run accurate speed tests is to ensure they aren't using the connection at the same time for any downloads etc....

I've been having this problem for 3 days now. I have a 5Mbps downstream 768kbps upstream dsl connection and noticed that webpages were opening noticeably slower and streaming video took ages to load. All speed tests I run show that I get around 300-400 kbps downstream even though my upstream is normal at around 600 kbps.
I know it is not my computer or browser since I've tried the tests on other computers in my house. I contacted my isp and they tested my phone line and said it was ok. They even changed the modem but it didn't help. I tried to connect using my isp's modem with router functionality and also as a bridge with my own router but I get the same results. The problem started happening overnight without any changes to any configuration in my home computers or the network. Today I noticed that I get much higher speeds (almost full bandwidth) when downloading torrents but as I said videos take forever to load and all speedtests show a very low downstream speed.
Anybody know what could be causing this? I suspect that it is a problem with my isp (perhaps with port 80?) but they say that everything shows up as normal on their side.

A:Torrents fast speed tests slow

DSL has issues with speed. I use to have 1.5mbps, then 3mbps and 5mbps. I even bypass the way DSL works in the home. You can do the same but take some time to do. Most you can get out of that is a much stronger signal. You tap into the main phone line that comes in like through a basement before it hits the phone. I use CAT5e with a phone jack box ran that to another phone jack box with a modular connector. That connector would use ultra phone line cable based on Cat 5e but for phone data. That would go to your DSL modem. It worked well. Now that I am cable modem I'll never go back to DSL.
