Yoga Book - Screen Rotation, Halo Keyboard, Sleep Mode

Q: Yoga Book - Screen Rotation, Halo Keyboard, Sleep Mode

Recently purchased my Book in October 2017. I was so excited when it arrived due to all the cool tech that was built-in. I took it with me on Vacation in November. During my flight I was watching some downloaded movies. When I closed the lid to catch a few z's. The **bleep** thing began to chime like it had some sort of wind chimes going off. It turned out that some how miscellaneous programs were launching and windows was sounding off with system sounds. I had to re-open the book and manually close everything and shut down the system in order to silence it. A couple of days after landing I began to use the book again and realized the screen rotation was not working as well as the Halo Keyboard activation button (upper right corner). This was so frustrating for me, I began to consider selling it on "Offer Up" or "Craig's List". Being a tech professional, I couldn't let this problem get the best of me. Especially since I couldn't feel good about selling a semi-bricked device. After futal researching on this forum and general searches on Google, a thought entered my mind. Why not try to do a System Restore. It made sense that good old Microsoft was pushing out updates which must have been the cause of these problems. Sure enough, rolling back to the original state when I purchased it made everything work again. However, I failed to realize that M$ was going to bite me again. Sure enough they did it again. Now, I realized that I must disable M$ Updates from jacking up my new Yoga Book. So, here's my solution and I'm sticking to it! 1. Turn off "Wireless"2. Disable "Windows Update Service"3. Reset the Operating System to Factory New status.4. Confirm "Windows Update Service" is disabled5. Disable Cortana (for personal security reasons)6. Turn Wireless back on7. Re-install all Security related software (ie. Anti-Virus, Firewall, VPN, Spybot Anti-Beacon). Results:Everything is working as expected. I now have the Yoga Book that I bought a few months ago and I am a somewhat happier person because of this all. I hope this helps anyone who is experiening the same behavior due to Windows Updates destroying there Yoga Book's awesome functionality.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Is there any way to do this? its driving the insane...it gives me more mistakes because I just want to type--I don't want to have to jump up to the screen during a word to pick a number, and it also makes typing word/number combinations almost impossible. If I make a mistake and backspace to edit a word, it treats it as a new word. Simply put, I have a very high WPM and can correct myself and while this feature may help a lot of people it's just not for me. When I try to change it in settings though the settings only seem to be for the onscreen keyboard. I would probably like to then off auto-correct as well.

This has been happening the last two days. I'll go watch a YouTube video in laptop mode and the screen will rotate so it'll be upside down when it goes full-screen. It does the same thing in tablet mode as well. I'm pretty sure everything is up to date and I've restarted the device, but the issue still persists. Even with Rotation Lock on, it'll still rotate. I haven't seen others with this issue which brings me here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

After one week with my new Lenovo Yoga 3 14 my keyboard stopped working. Sometimes, if i press a button hard enough or if I hold the laptop in a certain position, the keyboard works for a second. What's more, it seems like the device doesn't recognize the mode it is in anymore. The screen doesn't rotate and when I use it as a tablet sometimes the keyboard suddenly works although it is not supposed to be enabled in tablet mode. Touchscreen always works. Things I have tried so far without any success: Upgrade to Windows 10stopping the ymc serviceBIOS update bacn95ww.exeReinstalling Lenovo Transition softwareRight now I am updating Lenovo Companion but that is the last thing that came to my mind that I can do. Any ideas?

I have the same problem, it started one month after I got the laptop. I already reinstalled windows and tried a BIOS update, but both did not work.I don't know whether this could be related to the problem, but the right hinge of my model felt a little bit strange from the beginning and the rubber side of it rubs against the lid.

For some reason, flipping the keyboard into the tablet position and activating tablet mode, as soon as I press any key on the keyboard, the tablet mode turns off.  I've hada  Yoga 2 Pro before, and that laptop had a Lenovo Transitions app, which always functioned properly, reacting to the various keyboard orientation right away.  With Yoga 710, there's a delay before the tablet mode activates, and now also the laptop doesn't stick with the tablet mode / keyboard stays activated when rotated backwards. Any ideas?

Hi,
I have 3 issues with my Dell 3147 laptop.
The first one has to do with the keyboard and touchpad. For no apparent reason, the touchpad will disable and re-enable itself and in the process the physical keyboard will completely disable and won't enable again unless I restart the laptop
Second issue has to do with the sleep mode. Whenever I put the laptop on sleep mode I cannot go back to my session and have to press the power button for several seconds until the laptop resets/restarts completely.
Third issue has to do with the screen. It will flip upside-down without me doing anything, which means that I need to manually revert it using the keyboard shortcut everytime.
Appreciate any help.
My laptop is still under warranty, only bought it 10 months ago.
Thanks,
Ioannis

When I'm using my laptop in tablet mode and I touch a text entry box to try to type something in, the on-screen keyboar activates, but is essentially invisible - I can only see the outline of where the keyboard is supposed to be. As a result, I can't type anything while I'm in tablet mode, which is rather bothersome.

I've just bought a Yoga 2 Pro but the screen rotation has big problems. In Tablet mode (horizontal position) the screen is in vertical position or in horizontal position but upside down.In Tablet mode (vertical position) the screen is in horizontal position. In other words, the screen has always a wrong position, apart Laptop mode. The lock scrren switch works only when the display is in vertical position (in fact the message appears but the screen rotation isn't locked). I had this problem immediately; updating BIOS and drivers didn't solve it. Please help because the computer cannot be used as a tablet! Regards

I have also seen this happen. Other times, it seems auto rotation just breaks every now and then. I have to restart to get rotation to come back. Other times, I've seen what Philsan described - the rotation logic gets it backwards and I always end up upside down. Again, I have to restart to fix it. Thankfully, Win8.1 restarts extremely quickly, but it's still a major annoyance. Lenovo, please look into this and get it fixed.

I am not very happy with this laptop from the very beginning as the performance is not as smooth as I expected. I have had issues when the laptop was brand new. Like the mouse cursor would sometimes suddenly get stuck somewhere on the screen and remain there. That problem still persists till date. So now I have started using an external mouse whenever the cursor gets stuck randomly. Coming back to the context, after upgrading to windows 10 the screen stopped rotating. I updated the lenovo transition software for windows 10. After that the screen rotation worked fine for sometime. But one fine day it just stopped working again. I tried everything that I read in the forum - 1. Tried pressing the rotation lock button on the right side of the laptop.2. Formatted my laptop and did a clean OS reinstall and then updated to windows 10 again.3. Changed the value of SensorPresent to 1 (it was 0) in registry. Auto rotation is also set to 1.4. Manually used the Ctrl+Alt+arrow keys to change screens to see if it did anything.5. Installed the latest lenovo transition software which is compatible with windows 10.6. Updated to all windows 10 drivers.7. Made sure that the ymc service is running. But even after doing all these, the screen rotation just doesn't seem to work at all. I don't know what else can I do to get it back. I have tried countless other tricks as suggested in various forums by people facing the same trouble. But mine doesn't seem to get solved. Hello, You don't mention the flashing of the latest BIOS, but maybe you just forgot. By the way, on point 2., before updating to Win 10, you don't need to do "a clean reinstall" of Win 8 anymore. You can now just do a totally clean install of Win 10, and it will activate just fine (because the HardwareId of your Yoga is already on MS servers).

Well, this doesn't appear to be an uncommon thing but I have no idea what I've done to manage this. Brand new Yoga, barely 12 hours old.  Other than downloading Chrome as a browser and cleaning up some of the Start icons (ie:  unpin them) and set up Outlook, I have done nothing else. And now the computer screen will not auto-flip into Tent mode / Tablet mode.   I figure a setting somehow passively got pushed.  To be clear, it is not the bottom right notifications bar - rotation lock is not grayed out there and is on the "off" position.  However if I go to display, it's fully grayed out there.  I can manually set the computer into tablet mode and flip the screen. So somehow somethign else is acting on the action of the Rotation lock, forcing it into the locked landscape position. How can I get this back to Auto-rotate and tablet mode?  Please?

Dear Forum, Ever since I installed Windows 10 the automatic screen rotation doesn't work. I have the impression that Windows doesn't even know that my Thinkpad has the corresponding sensors. In the device manager, there is no "Sensor" section, I have no "Rotation lock" button in the quick settings (not greyed out, it's not even there), and the physical rotation lock button does nothing. I checked that the services "Sensor Data Service", "Sensor Monitoring Service" and "Sensor Service" are running and automatically started.I read here on the forum, that there should be some "HID sensors V2" visible in the Device manager. This doesn't show up, so I have no idea how to reinstall drivers. Any suggestions how to teach Windows that it has more hardware than it thinks it has?

So about a month ago I woke up one morning and went to use my yoga and discovered the halo keyboard was cracked and half it was unusable. I?ve never dropped or anything and it?s always been in a case not really sure what happened to it but the several times I?ve called the highly unhelpful customer service people they keep insisting that I dropped and refuse to give me an estimate of how long it would take to get it looked at if I sent it off or how much it cost and this is my tablet that I used to use everyday for my school work and now I?m managing with a kindle fire, but I?d like my yoga book back. The most that customer service has ever told me about sending in too is that I have to sent it to Kentucky, no instructions beyond that and absolutely no address ever given and it?s impossible to find on the website. I wanted to know if anyone else had this problem or at least even knows how to send it in for repairs. I?ve also only had it since November.

So I had to do a restore on my Yoga Book, Windows 10. Just noticed that when I hold it vertically like a tablet (portrait mode), the touches do not register in their correct positions (if I touch the upper left corner, it registers on the right side near the middle). When it's used as a laptop or tablet in landscape mode, the touches register fine and in their correct positions. What could possibly be causing this issue?

I have multiple spreadsheets or power points open so it's easier than shutting those down every time or even at night. But since yesterday, when I open it back up, it has shut down and has to start up from "off" vs sleep. All things open have to be recovered (xls, docs, ppt, etc) and chrome says it has shut down unexpectedly and asks if I want to restore tabs, etc. What is causing this change and how can I troubleshoot it and fix it?Help much appreciated.

Control Panel / Hardware and sound / Power Option
Click on change plan settings on your selected Power Plan
Click on change advanced settings

Now on this window look for Sleep and open it up.
Look for "Allow hybrid sleep"
Make sure that it is on and save changes

My 14" Yoga (non-pro) seems to jump out of sleep mode whenever I put it into sleep mode. This even happens when the Yoga has been folded up and put in by bag, giving a high chance of damaging the laptop or even causing other kinds of damage. Currently I'm working around it by putting it into Hibernate (which, I admit, is also pretty fast). But that's obviously not a nice workaround. Does anybody know how to fix this? I tried to find out what causes the event but the system logs are rather strange: I do get: The system has returned from a low power state.Sleep Time: ?2016?-?07?-?23T21:07:12.012475900ZWake Time: ?2016?-?07?-?23T21:07:21.793067400ZWake Source: Power Button But I certainly haven't touched the power button, and it seem to be working fine otherwise.

When my Lenovo Yoga 920 is in sleep mode I have two problems which are probably related.  The bluetooth doesn't turn off. All my devices will stay connected to the bluetooth. This can be really annoying because when I need to use a bluetooth device it will connect to my laptop which is not in use before I can get it to connect with my phone or other device.  The other problem is my battery drains too fast when in sleep mode. With my other laptops you could hardly see the battery drain. And this one it drains like 10 percent a day in sleep mode. I am sure the bluetooth probems is mostly to blame.  Is there any way to turn this feature off? When I shut the lid and it goes to sleep, I want it to be fully asleep.

Occasionally during Sleep Mode, the laptop restarts for unknown reasons. But I just noticed that it has restarted when I log in.I'm not sure whether this is caused by background updates of Windows 10, because I don't see a screen with updating or anything. AFAIK, the random restarts happened when the laptop ran on battery mode, but maybe that happens by accident.I already configured in Energy Manager that the hard disk never gets turned off, but that apparently doesn't work. What suggestions do you have to solve this random restart issue, without disabling sleep mode after X minutes?

A:Yoga 910 sometimes restarts during sleep mode

Windows will not update while in sleep mode, since your system is effectively turned off, so that is not the issue. Normally when you system is in sleep mode for a while, it eventually goes into hibernation (writes the data from memory to the hard drive) and shuts off.   This is to preserve the battery, and to prevent data loss should the battery die. The data is written to a hidden file on the root of the C:\ drive called hiberfil.sys, which is usually pretty large, about 6GB or so, and sometimes that file gets corrupted, and cannot be read when you try to resume, and thus the laptop reboot since it has no saved state from which to resume.     To fix that problem, you need to disable hibernation, and then re-enable it by following the steps below.. Disable/re-enable hibernationRight Click on Start and select Command Prompt (Admin)In the Command Prompt (Admin) window, type:  powercfg.exe /h offIt will take a minute or so for the command prompt to return as it deletes the existing hiberfil.sys fileOnce the prompt returns, type: powercfg.exe /h onThe prompt should almost immediately return, and the new hiberfil.sys file has been created.Close the Command Prompt (Admin) window Hope that helps. Cheers,

Hi everyone, I do have a strange issue with a Thinkpad S1 Yoga: after a fresh (clean) install of Win10, I have installed the relevant drivers - including the Lenovo power mgmt driver. So far, everything is ok. However, the device does not enter sleep mode when I am closing the lid. It seems that it rather changes to tablet mode.  After x minutes of inactivity, the devices enters sleep mode - also if I manually select sleep mode via Startmenu. So I think this is related to the detection of the lid function. Any chance to correct this? thanks. best, axeon

Hi, I recently purchased a Thinkpad X1 Yoga, shipped on May 16, 2016.  I have an issue:     When I use the left side USB port (the one on the side of the power charging port) to charge my old Ipod and the laptop goes to sleep. The laptop does not wake up when opening the lid or pressing on the power button. However, as soon as I disconnect my Ipod from the USB port. The laptop immediately wakes up but unable to login using the fingerprint reader. Specific steps to reproduce: 1) Plug x1 yoga power cord to the laptop 2) Plug Ipod to the left side USB port. Make sure Ipod has no earphones plugged in. 3) Put the laptop in sleep mode 4) Close the lid of the laptop 5) Wait until iPod is no longer being charged by the laptop (a few seconds after the laptop goes to sleep) 6) Wait until iPod automically turns off on its own (it takes 15 to 30 mins, not sure exactly how much time.) 7) Open the laptop lid and notice that the laptop is not waking up. 8) Press on the "power" button on the right side of the X1 Yoga. Notice that the laptop does not wake up. 9) Remove the iPod from the USB port on the left side of the X1 Yoga.        Notice that the laptop is now able to wake up.        Also notice that the finger print reader is not responding. Cannot login using the fingerprint reader. Seems like a driver issue. Lenovo please confirm! ThanksWilly

Please help me to find a solution. I have a problem with SSD perfomance after wake up from sleep mode. The system is almost freezed for 3-5 minuts with SSD access time more then 1000 ms (usualy it is 3-5 mks) , and very low SSD speed, like 50-100 kb/sec (usualy it is 200-300 mb/sec. And then it is ok again. I can't understand, what is going on and how to find a solution? Did not find any similar on the forum or google.
