I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi all,

Since a short while I have a problem with opening websites in IE8 and Firefox.
I could open all my favourite websites without any problem, suddenly a few months ago, I could not open one of them in IE8, it just loads the site with empty screen with in the bottom left corner "Ready", now I have three websites that will not open in IE8. I also have installed Firefox, so I went to Firefox and open them there, no problem. But now have one site that doesn't open in IE8 and Firefox !!!
I tried to open the site on my XP computer and here it opens the website. So I think it's a kind of security problem in my Windows Vista Home Premium computer, but what !!! that's the question. I use AVG as an Anti-Virus program on both sytyems and they are both fully updated, Windows and AVG,
My question, is there a solution for this problem ??

Regards

JohnMGD.

I'm unable to open any HTTPS website. This morning my router died and I replaced it with a new one. I called my ISP to verify I have correct DNS servers. I can't think of anything that would restrict https in the router..

When I try to load https I get a connection timed out, as if the server isnt there. For example I can load amazon.com, but when I click on my account it times out.

Any suggestions? I realize this might not be Win7 specific..

First off, thank you so much for your help.

I found out my computer was infected by the Ardamax Keylogger virus. Because of this I was unable to log into any accounts (whether email, shopping, even my geek squad account). I would get a "page not found" for any websites that had a login and password screen. Also, my Norton Anti virus and windows firewall was automatically disabled and when I tried to get support I received a "page not found". I restarted in safe mode and downloaded malwarebytes anti-malware and it immediately found the virus in 39 places. It deleted every one of them. I restarted and reran the virus protection and it does not come up at all now so I am assuming all traces of the virus are gone.

My problem is that even after the virus has been deleted, I am still unable to enable my Norton virus protection and my account pages still come up as "page not found". I don't know if this is still a virus issue or if I need to reset something. Before I found this website I tried to fix this issue on my own and found a similiar problem by someone who had this virus and couldn't access internet. I followed instructions to reset winsock settings. This didn't help. I then realized I needed help from a forum and found you guys! Yah!

I have been trying to block access to proxy sites without success. What I have done works on some but not all.

I've used a program called Internet Lock to block the port 443, but still I can access the proxy site.

I've put the name of the domain in the list of block sites, still it passes.

I tried to find out the IP address of the website, but I can't find it. Don't know if that would even work anyway.

One proxy site in particular seems to bypass all locks. https://unblockit.cc

If anyone knows how to block such sites, without losing access to gmail, yahoo mail, hotmail, it would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks

Mike

A:How do I block https(SSL) websites?

I think www.hidemyass.com will also bypass your locks. You can check its IP address using ping or nslookup. You can also block its ip address using your host file.

All this week, I have not been able to connect to any site that is secure or https. In addition to that, my touch-pad (this is a laptop) isn't working properly; I can usually use the right side of the pad to scroll up and down on web pages, but this function doesn't work. I don't know for sure, but I figure the problems are related since they began at the same time.

I've searched the internet, and found this site, and it seems accurate. I did run lavasoft adaware at the beginning of this week, and the issues began shortly afterward. I tried the netsh int ip reset logfile.txt command in the command prompt, the WinsockXpfix program, and running the .dll files; all to no avail. I also check my Firefox settings to make sure that I can connect to secure sites. Those options were already checked off and should be working.

This is only happening on my PC the rest of the computers and devices load everything fine. When I enter safe mode with networking I can load HTTPS websites and resources.

Here's what I've tried already:
1. tweaking and resetting the IE settings and cleared the caches across all my browsers.
2.

netsh interface ipv4 set subinterface “Wireless Network Connection 4” mtu=1472 store=persistent
replace Local Area Connection with the name of your network adapter and hit Enter.

3. resetting and restarting my router and PC multiple times.

4. In IE settings under "Content"->Clear SSL state

5. I checked my date and time are correct and have tried to change them and apply anyway just to see if it would help.

6. Disable my nod32 protection and try to load an HTTPS website.

7. Removing the openDNS IPs from IPv4 testing and inserting them back in.

Help, I'm ready to pull my hair out. I ran CCleaner on my desktop a couple days ago (I know, bad) and now I am unable to access any secured (https) websites. I have been researching this for 2 days and have tried everything I can find to fix the problem but nothing seems to work. I am using Windows XP Home, IE 7. I'm afraid I have removed something from the registry that is needed to access these types of sites.

I am using a 2 wire 2700 modem/router and have no problems accessing everything with my laptop. I spent an hour on the phone with my ISP, to no avail. I have performed every function I can find from various tech websites but have had no luck.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

So ive been having this problem for about a week now.

I cannot connect to google websites, facebook, email websites. Ive come to the conclusion that its only secure websites as websites like reddit and msn.com work.

Ive tried alot of solutions that have worked for other people from around the web and so far nothing has worked.

These problems happen in IE and Chrome but NOT Firefox.

I dont have an AntiVirus or a Firewall installed, windows firewall is disabled.

Ive Tried:
Checking Use SSL 2.0/3.0
Clearing SSL State
Restarting Computer
Uninstalling browsers
Clearing temporary internet files
Disabling protected mode (Internet Options)
Among various other solutions ive seen around

So does anyone have any idea of what it could be?

Hello mouse now I don't know your reason for not having any AV on board there are plenty of free ones and my philosophy is having one is way better than none at all. I run Kaspersky paid for with add on - on call scanners.

Personally if I were you I would at least run these

http://www.superantispyware.com/

http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/

download from bleeping computer ? delete any rubbishthese find.

If you feel inclined to have an AV on board take a look at this list
Probably the Best Free Security List in the World - Part I - Page 2

page 2 and I would at least have Windows defender running as well as the firewall - call it paranoia if you will but there are plenty of idiots out there who can and will take advantage of you.
The SueprAntiSpyware I linked is good at rooting out site that keep tabs on you for example.

Hello,

This has been going on for weeks and Iv tried sooo many things. All the settings, deleting, reinstalling, system restore, shutting down security, bypassing router, checking for updates, some have downloaded the SSL certificate and ''reinstalled it''...I don't know how to do that but it didn't work for them anyway. Iv been trying to get tech ''support'' from the website, my isp etc. but to no avail. We can't load up a game anymore or visit any of their httpS pages. It's not just me, other users are having the exact same problem. so far as I can tell we all have satellite Internet but different providers, not sure if everyone with satellite has the same problem or not. I have wildblue thru dishnetwork. up until recently it worked fine.

For example on the website:

https://toontown.go.com/join

Returns an error for me no matter what browser I use.

http://toontown.go.com/join

Remove the S and the page loads but I can't thru to login because that's thru a secure page.

For the game launcher I can give you an example of what some users have done to ''get around'' the problem. When you try to launch the game it uses this:

https://toontown.go.com/launcher/login?n=MYUSERNAME&p=MYPASSWORD

This will not work, results in error. Now the ''get around'' launcher some people made uses the following url. Just taking off the S in https.

Hello. I got a fake anti-virus alert yesterday. I didn't click on it but my computer is infected anyway. I ran Superantispyware and Malwarebytes numerous times yesterday and both had results of critical viruses. After the virus removal, the computer seemed normal but I ran Superantispyware and Malwarebytes again and once again showed results of critical point viruses. Due to these viruses, some websites have been opening up blank one minute and then opens normally the next minute. Some websites get redirected to other/random websites. And every few minutes the computer makes a sound (sound you hear when a small window pops up informing you that a anti-virus software has finished scanning for viruses) even though no programs are opened.

There are some websites that use https for some of their pages (like the login screen) and http for other pages like the home screen. On websites like these when I am redirected to an http page after logging in I still have the option of logging in and when I try to do this the page just refreshes. I believe that I am logged in to the website but because I logged in on a page using https if I then go to an http page it doesn't recognise that I am logged in. I think this is a problem with my network settings for connecting to the internet as other people I know are not having my problem on the same sites. How can i fix this?

This issue arises randomly and only once has it ever recovered. Event viewer also does not show anything either. Restarting fixes this issue, but I would rather find out what caused this issue in the first place.

I cannot connect to any sites using HTTP or HTTPS but I can connect to my remote FTP server and PING works for any website. I have used 'netsh' in an attempt to fix my issues but it requires a restart where it would fix it temporarily.

I also cannot access any local IPs or my localhost web server. I can however access some of Google's websites on Google Chrome Dev but not on any other browser. For the other sites I get a TIMED_OUT error. I have reinstalled my network drivers and reset my network settings (including DNS) but nothing else works.

I even turned off Bitdefender Firewall and Antivirus and Malwarebytes and issued a system scan but does not impact anything.

Help! my kids have done something to the computer. Recently started getting multiple pop-ups that would happen even when IE was not open. I've run ad-aware, downloaded spybot s&d but when I tried to run it, it wanted to update the definition files, so I told it to downoad updates and it came back with a socket error #10061 Connection actively refused. Previously I tried a few other web sites with no success either. I did notice that everytime IE tries to connects to a https website, that the usual response is that it cant find the page.

I started searching around on my computer to find that whatever they had done inadvertantly de-activated the firewall... I've since re-activated, but still cannot connect to https or use webpages that try to run downloads when you click a button.

Computer is a sony vaio, 1.6, 512ram, XP (sp1), IE 6.0... been running okay up till a week or so ago...

HELP,

Okay, I'm going crazy over this little problem. A friend/neighbors computers Internet Explorer 7 (now 6) or Firefox 3.0.6 will guit working after about 5 minutes and then will only go to websites that have the S (secure websites) in HTTPS websites, e.g. https://www.aaanetaccess.com...or anything like that. It will quit receiving bytes, but I can Ping www.yahoo.com or www.google.com.

The computer has Windows XP Pro, AMD XP CPU, 512 MB RAM, etc... and it runs great except for this.

I've uninstalled AVAST and Adaware since they had been installed about a week before this occurred, but everything was working fine for that week.

Also uninstalled XP SP3
Let me know if you need more info.

Please help before I lose it!

Well, I restored the computer back to the day before I had updated Avast (Jan. 15th) and found a mess of problems that I wasn't aware of at the time. Firefox had to be reinstalled. Internet Options wouldn't open and ie7 was working in No-Add-ons mode. I reinstalled ie7 and those apps started working.

And, the internet is now working fine.

Thank You!

I could not get IE9 to login to the Compass Bank or Chase websites. It ends up that the setting to not allow encrypted web pages to be written to disk was the issue. In IE8 and earlier this was not a problem (and should not be a problem in IE9), but in IE9 they must be handling the rendering of SSL pages differently and that option prevents the rendering of many SSL pages. Anyway, I am sure MS has already figured this out and will sliently repair it in a future update. Until then, you have to set policy to allow writes of encryped pages to disk.

A:[SOLVED] IE9 doesn't work on bank websites: https bug resolved

"Save encrypted pages to disk" is the default setting anyway, so unless you've been "meddling" with the defaults you shouldn't have any problem with secure sites.

Hi

I was infected with atleast a couple of things (Offerbox and Anti Malware Doctor) this morning from a site which had some flash videos i started to watch.

1. I went to safe mode and used Rkill and Malware Bytes Quick Scan to remove Anti Malware Doctor
2. Followed that with a Malware Bytes Full Scan in normal mode to completely clean Anti Malware Doctor

But even after that I was getting issues with search results from Google getting redirected to suspicious websites. I noticed somethign called OfferBox that wasn't something I installed

3. I unistalled Offerbox (from Install/Unistall Programs on Control Panel). But the problem remained.
4. Before I found this forum, I was directed to ComboFix which I installed and followed the steps. It appeared to have cleaned and removed the Offer Box config files from Application Data (see part of the log file from ComboFix)

Hello,

I want to start off by saying I am new here, and if you need any more information, please ask and I will try to provide

Please see the end of the post for a quick list of what I have tried, further details are scattered throughout the post.

I have a problem with my computer. I am running Windows Vista, 64 bit, with two GB ram. The computer is a HP Pavilion dv4 entertainment laptop. I use a wired data connection most of the time; if I used wifi in an example, I'll specify that in the given example. I have been expieriencing this problem since about Saturday, June 13th, 2015.

I first noticed my problem when I attempted to load youtube.com in my Firefox browser (32 bit). The website would show the spinning "loading" circle in the top right, however nothing would be loaded.

Checking the Task manager, there was no netowork activity. The Firefox process wasn't using excessive CPU or RAM. Eventually, I noticed that some other websites were not loading properly.

I've recently attempted to load that website in my other installed browsers, Google Chrome and Internet Explorer 9, to no avail.

At one point, I ran a Malwarebytes antivirus scan. It found nothing. However, when I proceded with a system restore (to several days before this problem was detected), the problem was fixed. less than 24 hours later, however, the problem is back again. I am currently running an Avast! Free Antivirus 2015 quick scan, and plan on following it wi... Read more

I am experiencing two issues which may be related:

1) Firefox won't load most websites:  Some sites such as Amazon and Yahoo load fine, but most other sites (eg. Reddit, Bleeping Computer) won't load with the tabs perpetually attempting to load.   No error message is received for the tabs with sites that do not load.  I reset Firefox and I also restarted Firefox with Add-on Disabled, and in both cases the same results occurred: most sites did not load and there were no error messages.   When I restarted my PC in Safe Mode, then the previously "unloadable" sites loaded successfully.  My Firefox version is 18.0.2.

2) Kaspersky indicates corrupt databases:  During the last few days Kaspersky updates would not complete.  Updates  "hang" at 88% or 92%.  I attempted to repair Kaspersky using Modify, Repair, Remove, but the updates still did not complete properly.  Yesterday, Kaspersky indicated that the databases are corrupted.  When I clicked on Fix It Now in Kaspersky, the update once again was unsuccessful and databases remained corrupted. I am running Kaspersky Internet Security 2010.

I ran a Malwarebytes full scan in Safe Mode, and the scan results indicated no infected objects.

My PC is using Windows XP.

Hopefully, the above has enough information to start diagnosing the problem.  I appreciate any help you may be able to provide.  Thank you!

Is this Mozilla DoH a good thing?

So recently I must've gotten some malware, and whenever I'm on firefox, about every two minutes, a window opens up going to hxxp://url.adtrgt.com/cpv.jsp with some added stuff at the end of the URL. I've run SpyBot S&D, SpyHunter, and they can't seem to fix the problem. Adware Away seemed to find the problem, but the trial version doesn't fix it. I've run Hijack This, and I'm wondering if anyone could decipher the log, as I don't really know what it all means.

I've attached the log.

Thanks a ton.

Have you noticed it's also Amazon, eBay and other similar websites?
I think it's something to do with secure websites (SSL).

Also, this works for some people and not others (didn't for me):
Get this:
http://www.dslreports.com/front/DRTCP021.zip
then extract and run it. don't touch anything except the bottom section. from the dropdown box select what you use to connect to internet and in the small box to the right of it type 1492.
click save and exit the program. Reboot your computer

Hope it works

Hello!

Last night while browsing the site Failblog . com I suddenly noticed several new Firefox (3.0.5) windows opening. At one point an internet explorer window opened up with a warning about trojans. Since firefox is my default browser I assumed something was up!

Sometimes the windows contained advertisements and other times were simply blank. The problem has persisted into today.

The pages open often two to three minutes apart; however, I have gone up to 20 minutes without seeing one.

Perhaps unrelated- but today I stated to get TXT messages on my cellphone which resemble junk mail.

My ark.zip file is attached as per forum instructions.

Thank you in advance for any help I may receive!

I just did my MS updates night before last, and IE7 was one of the updates. The odd thing is that now when I click on Windows Update in the control panel, Firefox opens instead of IE, and I don't know why. Firefox has been my default browser for quite some time, but I did not have this issue before I updated to IE7. Any ideas of how to fix this? I really don't want to use the Firefox IE extension.

I have the exact same problem as another user on here and quoted them and fixed it for my system.

"I think I have a bug or something that's driving me crazy. On my laptop I get random internet windows opening. By random I know they open on their own, without me doing anywhere. I can be far away from my laptop and they will open. They go to my homepage which is a blank page. Sometimes it's just one at a time and then one a few minutes later and sometimes it's twenty or thirty at a time. It just keeps going and going. I have AVG as my anti-virus, Nothing gets rid of it, everything comes out clean. About a month ago I installed a fresh copy of XP and even after the format it did this. I use firefox as my default browser so they open in firefox. If I uninstall firefox they open in Internet Explorer. They are completely random, sometimes they won't do it for an hour or so and other times they do it right after I start it up. It's getting very frustrating because it keeps disturbing me from my work. I've researched this and I can't find anything to do. Could someone please help."

Hi lotusa and welcome to TSF

Sorry for the delay in getting to you, the forum has been really busy lately and all our helpers are volunteers

Uninstall Zone Alarm Security Suite from Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. It's outdated and disabled and you have alternative antivirus and firewall active. More than 1 antivirus or firewall onboard can cause conflicts between the programs and produce undesirable results. Restart the PC to let the changes take effect.

----------------------

Scan with HijackThis and check the following entry (if it still exists)

O4 - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\..\Run: [Alcmtr] ALCMTR.EXE

Close all other windows including browsers and click Fix Checked

----------------------

1. Download combofix to your desktop

2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.

3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Is there a configuration method to tone down the number of links or whatever derives from the current window or video, etc...that interrupts and bleeds over into the current windows desired to be open?

I have a 64-bit version of Windows. When I use Firefox and go to such sites as Yahoo to check my e-mail, or I am just searching on Google, I am sometimes either redirected to another site or a second window opens. The internet address is sometimes hxxp://premium_.s3.amazonaws.com/index.html? (followed by various numbers and letters); sometimes the pages are just pop-up ads for internet games/movies/quizzes. When I attempt to close the pop-up window, a dialog box appears and asks if I am sure that I want to close the window, so I click OK. I want to remove whatever is causing the problem. Thanks in advance for your help!

I have 4 browsers on my computer: Internet Explorer 8, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Opera. I am trying to listen to some MP3 files on a website, and all of the browsers, except for IE 8, told me to download the Realplayer Plugin. So I did, and when I tried to listen to the MP3 file, Realplayer will automatically enable this "Autoupdate Helper" thing and check for updates. So I let it check for updates, but then it'll say "There are no updates..." and just stop there. The file won't play! I click play again, and the same thing happens.

Internet Explorer is the only browser smart enough to open the MP3 files on the web page using Quicktime (the website actually tells you to use Quicktime to open the files) but it doesn't load the Youtube videos that are embedded on the site. There's a X on the top left corner of the section where the video is suppose to be.

Now I'm stuck! I want to view all the contents on one page with one browser! But none of the browsers will actually work properly!

So the main problem is:

1. The MP3 files won't load in Chrome, Firefox, and Opera using Quicktime.

Chrome is the only browser I use frequently, and the others are basically backup. IS THERE ANY SOLUTION TO THIS!?!?!?

Thanks everyone!

Hi guys and gals,

New to this forum, so I hope it the right place for and way of explaining this problem.

I just bought my first PC, which is pretty awesome after having worked on laptops for years.
Here is the configuration:
- i7 4790K
- MSI Z97 Gaming 5
- MSI GTX 980
- Corsair Vengeance Pro Red 16GB 1600 MHz CL9
- Corsair RM750
- Samsung 850 Pro 256GB SSD

This is also my first system with Windows 8.

Now here is the problem:
After installing my favorite browser Firefox, for some reason it won't load google.com properly.
It automatically tries to load the https version of google, which makes sense.
But it gives my the "Untrusted connection error" (but then in Dutch, so I hope it is correctly translated).
When I delete the "s" and try http it loads fine, but then my search results are different from my laptop with Windows 7 and only the categories "Web" and "Images" are shown.
The same happens in Internet Explorer.

I have tried the solutions as described on the Mozilla support pages, but without any luck.

I hope someone on this forum can help me out.

Thanks in advance and best regards,

T

Just found out that Internet Explorer has similar problem on my Windows 7 laptop.
Google Search results only show the categories "Web" and "Image".

Anyone that might have a solution?
