Wireless not working at all, internet cable partially not working

Q: Wireless not working at all, internet cable partially not working

So yesterday the whole apartment I live in got a total internetblock. Nobody could do anything on the internet for the whole day, it said something bout my network cards (I am swedish so I don't know what everything is called in english) didn't work. So I use an internet cable, but it seems like that one doesn't work either, as I keep getting disconnected from the Internet randomly, it's incredibly annoying.

What can be wrong with my router?

Preferred Solution: Wireless not working at all, internet cable partially not working

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hmmm usually Windows 7 comes preinstalled on a new PC, better off with a clean install anyway as this eliminates all the preinstalled bloatware that the manufacture of the PC typically installs.

At any rate, have you tried going to the Windows Update Center using the wireless connection to install all the updates for your new system?

Installing the driver for the Intel Ethernet Connection I27-V directly from the Intel site may also work.

Its a data gateway xp. With the cable cord it was working, but it possible that a failure happen on the hardware or maybe I had done something could of done it which I will not deny. For my own part, the wifi was not working and I was trying to fix it. I went to troubleshoot it and it said "try unstall and reinstalling the wireless". Maybe I unstall the wrong one or not because I did it a few times. It says it is connected but there is wifi with the cord. Trying to pick up wifi around the area will not show anything. Even when right next to the box.

A:Internet not working. Both with cable cord and wireless.

Go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. In the Device Manager are there any devices with yellow flags? If so, these devices need drivers installed. On an internet computer go to the Gateway drivers site Gateway Support - Downloads & Support Documents Find your make and model # and download the Chipset, LAN and Wireless LAN driver for your model and any other drivers you need in the Device Manager. Save them to a USB Flash Drive and transfer them over to the troubled computer.

The problem I have here guys is that some sites load in my browser, such as this one thankfully , but others do not. Google works, Youtube works, but for example AOL.com does not work and neither does rays.mlb.com. Comcast.com loads, but Comcast.net does not, go figure. The site tries to load but times out and and I get this message in Firefox:The connection was resetThe connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. Those aren't the only sites that don't work I'm sure but those are the ones I have tested.I have a linksys router Every computer under the router's connection has the same problemThe problem occurs in Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Avant, so it's probably not the browser.I have tried to reset the connection (repair it). I have unplugged the modem and the router but still no success. I have also turned off NOD32 Antivirus but still hasn't fixed the problem. My ISP is Comcast.Could it be a virus or mal-ware? Could it be Comcast? Thanks for the help PS: The problem started this morning, never has happened before either.

A:Internet Partially Working?

Well the problem has "resolved" itself thankfully. The sites seem to open fine now. But I'm going to be cautious and watch for signs of malware or even a virus.

The internet and ethernet lights flash when data is being transferred but the the WLAN light is not flashing. I have restored the router to factory default but it is still not working. A:cant connect with cable but wireless is working

Bad cable, bad port on the router, bad NIC, or defective drivers for the NIC.

I'd try a new cable, change the port used on the router with one that is currently working for one of the other computers, and load updated and/or a new copy of the NIC drivers. If that doesn't do it, the NIC may be bad.

A:internet not working on lan but working with wireless card?

I would suggest connecting with your wireless card and going to windows update and seeing if you have all the updates for your operating system. Look in the Optional updates for hardware drivers that may fix the yellow exclamation marks, as they may be the problem. If the yellow marks don't go away, google that problem "how to get rid of yellow exclamation marks in Device manager".
You may want to disconnect your wireless card, plug in your ethernet cable, and then power cycle your modem, router, and computer. Turn them all off, then power each of them up, waiting a minute between each one. Start with your modem, then your router, then your computer. Post your results.

Hi people,

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium.
My wireless connection has been working on and off for a while, but now it just refuses
to work.
The other computers in the wireless network are working just fine, so it must be definitely something in my laptop.

I can detect the network just fine, with good signal.
It says:

Media State: Enabled
IPv4 Connectivity: No internet access
IPv6 Connectivity: No internet access

Also, in the activity there are Bytes sent and received, but I cannot connect to any webpage either with Chrome of Firefox

I'm using McAfee Security Center. I tried turning off the firewall, but it still doesn't work.

Please let me know what I can try.

Vista Ultimate 64-bit, ASUS Rampage Formula motherboard, USB mouse and keyboard connected in back ports.

Two things happened: Avira antivirus warned me of some threats which I either ignored or deleted. Windows Update had some updates ready (although I'm not sure if it updated).

I turned off my PC for a couple of hours, turned it back on and realized that my USB keyboard was not working on the password screen.

I eventually unplugged it from the back and plugged it into the front, where it worked. However, my USB mouse did not work when plugged into the second front port, nor did it work when plugged into the front port in which the keyboard worked.

I accessed System Restore using my keyboard and restored to one day previously. When it finished, both keyboard and mouse worked, although I got a pop-up message alerting me that the "drivers for your device could not be installed." When I clicked "OK," the mouse stopped working again.

I have checked BIOS and both mouse and keyboard are recognized, so it does not appear to be a hardware issue.

Ok, here's the deal. Yesterday morning I'm on my comp on the internet everything is fine. I get off to do some yard work, I come in and my little bro is IMing and what not (internet is working fine). Then my other littler bro who is 10 yrs old is on playing some little age of empires game. He gets off and I get on. The internet isn't working. All the lights on the cable modem are on, including the activit light that is blinking. I shut off the modem and comp several times trying to restart and fix it. It does nothing. So I call our ISP (Comcast) and I talk to two diff technicians I do all I can but nothing works. They told me to go into the command prompt thing and release and renew my IP. I released it fine but I couldn't renew it because I guess my comp couldn't contact the DHCP server. So today a technician came to our house, he plugs his lap top into our modem it works fine. He even installs a new network ethernet card on our comp but it still won't work. He says I'm prob gonna have to take it into some shop because there is nothing left he can do. He said it's probably a virus. Does that sound right? This is bugging the crap out of me. I don't want to spend $50 to take it in, nor do I want to re format.

If you're wondering how I'm on the internet now, I'm on dial up on my sister's laptop.

A:Cable Internet Not Working.

Oh, the hazards of letting little rugrats play with your computer.

Completely turn off your computer, then unplug the modem from the wall jack. Wait 5 - 10 minutes, then plug the modem back in the wall jack. Give it 1 - 2 minutes to reset and settle down, then turn your computer back on. See if that helps.

If you have Windows ME or XP, go into System Restore and select a restore date prior to when the problem occurred. See if that helps.

I can't say much for your Comcast tech support.

First post!

We recently had a lightning storm nearby and since then I haven't been able to use my modem (cable). The computer just says "network cable unplugged". I tried the modem with the cable on two other laptops and both are working fine, ie. the problem is not with the cable or the modem.

I then went onto device manager and checked the network adapters. It says "this device is working properly".

Also, when I connect the cable from the modem to the computer, there is meant to be a light on the modem which comes on (the pc/activity light). This does not light up at all.

Can anyone help me? I am hoping this has not been caused by the storm.

Hey everyone,

My mother is using my old PC which I abandoned like 6 years ago. It was hardly used for the last 3 years and a while back my mom got cable coverage in her area and I set everything up, it was working.

Then she calls me, it's not working. I go there, boot, after Win 2000 log-in screen some password managing program pops up (called APM I think). Likely I installed this a couple of years ago, but it never popped up and I don't really remember about it.
She has, for whatever reason, played around in the Win 2000 account settings (because she wanted to change the desktop background.... yes, she has no clue).
I cannot find anything she might have changed what would cause APM to pop-up (I could imagine this could happen even if she just went in a changed nothing and "OK"ed), but more impotantly, why the hell is internet not working now?

Cmd/ipconfig shows, so I guess DHCP is not working for some reason?

I reinstalled hardware-wise, as in deconnecting the cable-modem and reconnecting everything, but no change. I resetted the modem, no change. DHCP is aktivated in TCP/IP settings for the connection.

I thought i'd just run the installation CD again so it would recreate the LAN-connection, but for some reason I hit install, then the next window opens and I cannot hit either OK or BACK, just close. It's not greyed out, it just won't do anything and doesn't show the "press"-animation.

Any suggestions? I never h... Read more

A:Suddenly Internet over Cable not working

IP addresses of all zeros are normally caused by one of the following.

DHCP Service not running.
Duplicate IP address on the network.
Bad NIC card drivers.
Defective NIC hardware.

Check Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. The DHCP Client service should be Started and its Startup Type should be Automatic.

Turn off ALL of the computers and other network connected devices, restart (power cycle) the router, then restart all the computers and other network devices.

Check for upgraded drivers and/or reload the Network drivers.

Replace the Network Interface Card.

Hi guys I could use anyone's help. The problem is with my desktop pc. I connected it to the modem using a new ethernet cable but I can't access the net. To test the cable, I plugged it to another pc and I got no problem connecting to the net. When I borrowed another cable from a friend and tried it on my desktop, it connected directly to the net. Which means that there is no problem with either the cable that I bought and the NIC of my pc.

The message that I get when I use the cable that I bought on my pc is "Unidentified Network". Can anybody help me out with this?

A:No Internet connection even if cable and NIC is working fine

You should tell Windows firewall that's your new home network. I don't see why a new cable would make your computer think that your old internet connection was something new.

I'm having problems with my Asus NV56VM laptop (windows 8). Whenever I try to use an ethernet cable to access internet I either get a SSL-error, the website doesn't load at all or it loads VERY slowly and not the whole website (it says that I have internet acces and that it's not limited). Wireless works fine though.
I've also tested playing some games (ex Call of duty) and it works fine for like five minutes and then I get an error message saying something about packages didn't receive correctly. So I'm guessing it have to do with not all information is transfered when I use ethernet.
According to the Device Manager I use "Qualcomm Atheros AR8161 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.30)" and the drivers is up to date.

Things I've tried:

I'm not that great with computers so sorry if I'm not so clear with everything and if there is something I've missed please let me know.

Would appriciate some help on this!

A:Internet not working with ethernet cable (Atheros AR8161)

This looks like a physical issue with your connector not picking up all 8 pins on the head rather than a setting problem since you have completed most troubleshooting techniques. If this is the case you may have to invest into another internal or external ethernet adapter.

Could you please complete the following command in command prompt and after 1-2 minutes terminate it with the following keys CTRL+C. Once done please post back your results

ping www.google.com -t

The command needs to be typed exactly as seen above including any spaces. Feel free to copy and paste if it is easier

Many Thanks,

Hi there,

The laptop I have is an asus P550C, windows 7.

This laptop came pre-installed with Mcafee Antivirus protection for a limited amount of time. Wifi was working perfectly fine although there were occasions where the connection would disconnect by itself. After the free-trial ended, I did not want to buy the packaged they were advertising so I went to my Control Panel and uninstalled Mcafee. This was when the problem started to occur. The internet access icon had a red x and when I went to diagnose the problem, it said that I needed to connect via an ethernet cable. Since then, I have connected it with an ethernet and internet works and I have also installed AVG's free antivirus software.

I have tried to
type: ipconfig /flushdns
type: nbtstat -R
type: netsh int reset all
type: netsh int ip reset
type: netsh winsock reset

But I still cannot connect via wifi. Please help

Please help me because I have been trying for 3 hours now and want to cry haha. I used my laptop last night and the cat did walk over it, as she usually does so it may have been something she has done or just a coincidence this has happened.I just went to use my laptop tonight and could not log in because I noticed that my A key was not working which is in my password so used the onscreen key board, I then discovered probably half of my other keys also are not working!!! I have uninstalled the keyboard in the device manager and nothing, I have even installed Unbuntu to see if it would work in there as one person suggested. I have turned the laptop off, took the battery and power cable out, held the power button for 60 seconds, put it all back together and started it up, nothing. I have stolen my boyfriends keyboard from his desktop PC and that is working fine. I just do not know what to try next if anything or if to just go ahead and back my stuff up and reinstall windows (using windows 10). I do not understand why it is only some keys as surely if it was the actual keyboard then it all would not be working which is why I think it might be a windows thing maybe, but then why does the USB keyboard work fine. Thanks for any help and let me know if you need anymore information

Hi guys,

I've been researching and trying to days to get this to work with no avail so I decided to post here for some help as I see this community is really active.

We've got 4 different laptops here and none of them can connect to the wifi anymore (it suddenly stopped working for the last whole week). We can connect to the internet through ethernet cables though. We only use one at a time (if ethernet, then wireless is disabled and vice versa).

You have an IP on your LAN, but none on your wifi. Check your router to make sure DHCP for wifi is turned on and you have enough available addresses.

Hello Everyone! I have scoured the chats and have not seen a resolution for a partially working keyboard. I have a 3-yr old Thinkpad Yoga (20CD00B1US) running windows 10 (Computer was installed with 8.1). The 10 install was done months ago. Yesterday, part of my keys (entire qwerty row, Shift keys, Enter Key, Ctrl keys, and the Tab key just to name a few) decided to stop working. Note that the online keyboard functions fine, hence why I can type this message. I am unable to go to Bios because all the keys needed are not functioning and I do not have access to an external keyboard. This is my only only computer in the home. I have tried the following: 1. Fn+k =lock screen to see if that was enabled. 2.Accessed my accessibily menu to see if the keyboard screen had unneccessary toggles. Nothing is toggled. 3. Downloaded Talent Driver to see if I had outdated drivers. I have 2. Intel HD Graphics Family in; and, Touchpad Synaptics Pointing in, although I am not sure how these will help with the keyboard issue. Please note, I can not go into BIOS because the necessary keys are not functionin. With this information, can anyone discern if this is a software or hardware issue. This will let me know if I can fix myself or take it to a certified Lenovo repair place. Thanks from Minnesota!!

Hi. I've been having X1 carbon 5th gen for a few months and have been satisfied with it.But today I found out that the USB port located on left side is not working properly. Here are the symptoms:- USB storage such as USB sticks or portable HDD work fine, and data get transferred normally.- It also charges smartphones and other devices that can be charged by USB.- It does not detect corded inputs such as external keypad, mouse, and, keyboard. The USB port located on right side works perfectly. I find it to be really weird with this problem. Input devices do not work at all when USB storages work just fine. I have tried reinstalling Windows fully, installed all the latest updates including the latest BIOS, have set the BIOS settings to default, and nothing worked.  I'm curious if it could be some driver or BIOS driver issue or pure hardware defect. Has anyone experienced this? If there are other things I could try before sending it for repair please let me know. Thank you!

Try hooking a powered hub to the port.  If that "fixes" it, it's likely a power problem

Please Help me! After running my malware anti-virus and removing all the virus, my Local Area Connection keeps saying network cable unplugged. I checked the network adapters and everything is fine. When I did an ipconfig, there's no ip address showing. I have Windows XP. I've tried almost everything and it's still not working. What could be causing this problem? I've been working on this for days. Any help is greatly appreciated.

A:Local Area Connection-Network Cable unplugged - Internet not working after virus

Hi: When you say no ipaddress do you mean it is all zeros or 169.xx ?
If all zeros here are some things to investigate:
IP Addresses all O’s
IP addresses of all zeros are normally caused by one of the following.

1. DHCP Service not running.
2. Duplicate IP address on the network.
3. Bad NIC card drivers.
4. Defective NIC hardware.

1. Check Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. The DHCP Client service should be Started and its Startup Type should be Automatic.
2. Turn off ALL of the computers and other network connected devices, restart (power cycle) the router, then restart all the computers and other network devices.
3. Check for upgraded drivers and/or reload the Network drivers.
4. Replace the Network Interface Card.
If this is a wireless connection:

There has also been at least one case where switching from using Dell WLAN to XP’s WZC resolved the issue.

Hi, I have just got an EZCast home multimedia wireless sharing device. It works great from my acer laptop and from my android phone. HTC one! My problem is that it works as an access point so both my phone and my laptop need to connect as clients. when I do this I have no connection to the internet anymore.
I have a great deal with my telecoms provider in Ireland and get umlimited BB over G4 so I use the HTC either in wifi hotspot mode or Bluetooth PAN to connect to the internet on my laptop (and wireless printer).
Either way when I connect to the EZCast access point I have no internet. The phone sees a wireless network and shuts down my mobile data connection and my laptop can only connect to one wireless point at a time. When I do bluetooth tethering and I am connected to the EZCast AP, I can still see that I am connected to the BT PAN but I have no adapter to connect it to so no internet. I tried to bridge the PAN and the WIFI but forums are telling me that you can't do this with Windows 7 anymore. I have noticed that there is a virtual miniport in Windows and I was wondering would it be possible to use this. I know I could buy a USB Wifi dongle and that would be it but it must be possible some other other way. The networks don't havce to talk to eachother. I need to get internet on the laptop and then at the same time be able to connect to my TV via the EZast Wifi. Hope someone can help. It's my first post her so hope I have given enough info.

Hello and welcome Eamonn now I am a tad confused with your rather involved post mate. Now could you simplify it a little to what works with what and what you are actually wanting it to do.

Now I have to ask I assume you have updated all drivers for all the devices??

There is a really good networking member here if I cannot help you out but I will try first.

On startup, my computer gives me the CMOS checksum error- Defaults loaded. I can press f1 to continue and DEL to enter setup, but my keyboard with a ps2 connection has partial control with only the delete, escape, scroll lock, and numblock keys working, at least to my knowledge. I can press delete to get into the bios, but i cannot control anything from there. I have also tried another keyboard with a usb connection and got the same results meaning that the problem does not lie with the keyboard.

To fix the problem, i have replaced the bios battery and also reset the CMOS using the jumpers. This obviously didnt work as i would not be posting this. I know that if i can somehow communicate with the bios, i can set it to stop "halt on error".

I am currently using a p5n- d ASUS motherboard and from what ive read my other specs shouldent be necessary, though if you would like them i will gladly provide them.

Please offer any suggestions before I consider replacing the motherboard.

long story short - this morning i decided to pretend to know what i'm doing and tried to cut down on processes running on my lappy. Now i went into good ol' msconfig and messed around in the services tab. I turned stuff off that seemed rather useless. Afterwards rebootedand noticed that my FN keys work only partially. meaning that sound and touchpad controls still work, but brightness, wireless, fan mode and quick settings don't. + it used to display a nice little overlay detailing the level of sound or brightness and now it doesn't

Samsung NB 550P7C
W7 home premium 64bit that came together with the laptop pre-instaled

i'm attaching the photo of stopped services below
(there are a few others but they are honestly non essential like cyberlink video manager and bing bar updater....)

while writting this thread i noticed something else. the extra keyboard language i had enabled is still here but the notifier icon on the bottom right on the taskbar is gone.

AAAAAND the program that i use for screen shots (gadwin printscreen pro) seems to "forget"what key i set it to every 1 min or so. (F'x'' keys) but when i change them in the settings it works for a brief time.
so did i cause this by removing the services or maby it's from windows updates? (fresh pc - plenty of that stuff)

if you need any aditional info please do ask

Weds night shutdown pc, an hour later was still on shutting down screen so I turned off with the button.
Same thing Friday. Daughter was usin it on the Internet playing games and everything appeared to be working until I tried to turn it off.
Today I tried the command prompt thing, sfc/scannow. Couldn't get it to work as every time mouse went into bottom toolbar it froze, having to turn off with button.
I went into safe mode and did the scannow, it said it had fixed something and would make changes after a restart.
Still freezing in bottom toolbar, noticed Internet now not connected.
Safe mode again and did scannow again.
Same results.
I noticed there was a new prof installed on weds ( days first prob occurred) trusteer endpoint protection. Went to control panel in safe mode as I couldn't do it normally, tried to remove, got the message ' the windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if the windows installer is not correctly installed. Contact support'
In safe mode ran, ccleaner, spybot, and malware bytes. Spybot found 4 entries and asked me to do something to Mozilla (sorry I don't remember what but I said yes, it wasn't to close it, it was something like fix)
Malware bytes found nothing.
In safe mode restore centre will not open, nothing happens.
In normal vista nothing works, if I go in bottom toolbar it just freezes. If I try to click a shortcut from desktop I get message saying windows not responding and to end or wait.... Read more

However, I have just moved to a new place and the same thing has happened again! This time though, the updates (from Toshiba and Atheros) haven't managed to fix the problem. Thank you in advance!

Atheros Wireless Adapter - AR5007EG & AR5007

Over the last couple of years we have been seeing a lot of problems with the above adapters, mainly concerning WPA and WPA2 encryption and mainly on windows Vista.
We have seen just a couple of issues on other windows operating system, windows XP and windows 7.

Windows XP:- A driver update has resolved the issue
Windows 7 :- No conclusive results for a fix

The wireless adapter gets an IP configuration, and shows as connected, but communication is non-existent or sporadic.

Log into the Router and disable the wireless security and see if you are now able to connect to the internet and surf OK.
Please post back a reply here, and let us know if that works or does not work.
If you post back the make and exact model of the router - we can advise how to disable the wireless security

Here are a number of possible solutions

--- 1) In Device Manager right click on the wireless adapter and "update driver."

--- 2) Download and install the latest wireless driver from your laptop manufacturer's web site support section,

If you post a reply here with the Make and EXACT model of yo... Read more

I purchased a new PC (Lenevo ideacentre e700 AOI) about two weeks ago. On an inital set up everything was running, fine did all the updates and was able to access the internet. I did not use the PC for around a week, and when attempting to try it the internet would not connect. I noticed that it was not showing any wifi options at all. I went to device manager and an exclamation mark was showing on our wifi network adapter which is a Intel dual band (cant remember the rest and now my device manager wont load at all to find). I took it back to the shop they looked at it and said it's probably just the drivers, however these are up to date. They ran the lenovo support and nothing come back wrong and the wifi connected to the stores wifi. The technician told use to just disable and enable with any troubles as would give a kick start. When we got home the wifi still wouldn't connect, tried to disable/enable however it wasn't even showing on the device manager, after a couple of times it finally appeared so we did the disable/enable however it sitll would not work. Now my pc won't load device manager at all.

Any recommendations, otherwise we will take the PC back to the shop.

I'm baffled, befuddled, bewildered, discombobulated, flummoxed , muddled, perplexed, perturbed, puzzled, AND stumped. Does anyone actually understand wireless networking? My laptop was working beautifully for a few days, then for no discernible reason, it don't.

I have Windows 7 on my desktop. it has a ASUS P5W DH Delux with built in wireless AP. The Sony Viao PCG-Z1AP laptop is running Windows XP Pro SP3.

I set up a ad hoc network on my desk top with internet sharing, and everything worked fine for a few days. Now while it is still getting a strong signal, 4-5 bars, and says it is connected, I can't access the internet through the laptop. Works perfectly plugged in to the cable modem.

And ideas for a sloution to this puzzling situation would be highly apreciated.

Here's the deal. We have two computers both connected to a WTG624 Netgear router. One is connected by a wireless USB adapter WG111v2, also Netgear.
A few days ago, one of them suddenly started acting up. The wireless signal (as shown on the netgear network wizard) would connect and then disconnect in a matter of seconds, but even when it said it was connected, the internet wouldn't work at all. I had to reinstall the driver, but that didn't work either. Now I had a constant signal with 80%+ strength but alas, the internet was not working. The networking icon in the system tray said I had 'little or no connection' and when i tried to repair it couldn't get one, ending up with
I tried putting in ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew into the command prompt box, but it said that it couldn't do anything while 'the media is disconnected'. I tried powercycling. I tried using the Windows wireless connection configuring thing, as the Netgear customer support people told me to, but that didn't work. I tried putting in netsh int ip reset rest.log and then netsh winsock reset catalog too, and then rebooting it, but I still couldn't get internet. I checked all the connections, and it's beginning to drive me mad.
Does anyone know what's wrong? And can anyone help me? Thanks.

I can't figure out what the problem is, but I can't get my laptop to connect to my wireless network. Under Network connections, it says the Wireless Network Connection is Enabled. The device is also working properly in the Device status section. And down in the taskbar, the Wireless Network connection has an excellent signal strength, so it appears to be connecting just fine to the router. Other wireless machines in the house work, so I know the network is OK. And finally, if I plug the laptop directly into the router, I can get to the Internet.

It was working previously, but something must've changed. Any suggestions??
