I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Thank you for following this thread. I have recently recieved a refurbished X1 Yoga which has run extremely well until three days ago. When I first recieved the laptop I noticed only that the battery charged light and the screen notification were not aligned. The light next to the charger would indicate it was charged long before the screen would agree. This wasn't that big of a deal, but it may have led to my next issue. Three days ago the touchscreen and mouse started to malfunction. On the right side of the screen there was the mouse and three circles frozen, but I could still use the mouse through intuition and some guesswork. The visible point of the mouse would flicker back and fourth between where it actually was and the right side of the screen. Later that evening I closed the laptop and it died. I tried to charge the laptop, but no matter how long it was charged or how long I held the power button nothing happened. Essentially, it became a very expensive brick. Yesterday I charged the laptop again just out of desperation and it came to life. It made a sound like a dial-up and just turned on as if nothing happened. Everything seemed to be all right until it crashed again, and now is currently dead. Any suggestions? The laptop is still under warranty since I got it about three weeks ago, I just can't turn it on to use Lenovo Support.

Seeing as your machine appears to have suffered hardware failure, I would phone for support. If the International Warranty Tool on support.lenovo.com is correct, you should call 1-800-426-7378 in the United States.

Hey everyone, I'm having some hardware issues.

If I shut my computer down, I can't boot it up again until I turn the power supply off and the red power light on the motherboard turns off. After that I can get into Windows and not experience any problems. Restarting is fine, as well as leaving the computer in sleep mode.

I know it's not my case's power button, because it functions as it should and I already plugged the wire in and out from the motherboard. As for the power supply, I ran a test by running Crysis (heh) and my computer didn't shut off or anything. I'm not confident that the PSU is not part of the problem though.

What could I do to fix this? I don't understand much about computers, it was actually my friend who help me set this build up, so I would really appreciate the help!

My setup:

- CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750
- CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB)
- Intel Core i7-2600 3.4GHz
- Windows 7 64-Bit

I use an HP Pavillion dv5003cl Notebook I have owned since April 2006. I have had several problems with it and I think this might have been the last straw. I hope there is a fix for it because I cant afford a new laptop just yet so any help will be appreciated.

Yesterday i was using my laptop conncected to a 500 GB WD external hard drive. I began hearing this high pictched whine and I assumed it was my fan since it had been on for a while. suddenly it shut off, as if I had pulled out the battery. Pressed the power button several times but it did nothing. Then i noticed the high pitched noise was still audible (and more annoying than ever). Turned out it was coming from the power supply, primarily the big brick shaped section. It is the 3rd power cord I've owned, all my other ones keep breaking or stop working.

Anyway I dont think it's the problem because i have used another power cord and it didnt charge the battery or allow the computer to power up. I have also tried the 'hold power button for 30 sec then connect power and turn on then connect battery' routine to discharge any power in the comp but to no avail. Is it dead or is there a way i can fix it?

Man I never thought buying this pda phone 3 weeks ago would be so helpful...well now I'm stuck with it as my only means for internet access ): please help!

A:Computer suddenly shuts off, won't turn back on

Try this... without the defective PSU(Power Supply) or any other power source plugged into the notebook.

Then try the 30-sec, no-battery installed thing.

With your PSU "exploding" - it might have fried your notebook. Hopefully data on drive is still good. Even if your notebook is alive, it may still be damaged... and those HPs are not quite good...

Look at ThinkPads (starting at $550 with Core2Duo CPUs) soon...

Windows XP!!!

Alright, this is the most strange issue that has ever occured while fixing a computer for me..

My friend has a toshiba laptop, 4gb ram.. Dual 2.66Ghz processors, amidon or whatever.. sorry im half asleep

It runs fine, untill he does something that requires graphical drivers i guess, He used to be able to play World of Warcraft fine, we play it together every day, and as of yesterday after 5-10minutes of player his computer just shut off without a warning

When he tries to turn it back on, when he clicks start windows (normally, safe mode, etc..etc..) it all does the same thing, just shuts back off

If he waits like 10-15minutes then turns it back on it works fine untill he starts a video or something like WoW.

What would be the cause of this, over-heating even though the laptop feels cool at the time it is happening, graphical cards (If so, why would it prevent it from starting back up)

Any help and ways to fix would be greatly appreciated

hi chris1327 welcome to tsf,

first thing i would do is get a can of compressed air and blow out all the vents. Sounds like it is over heating, if laptop is not in warrenty and you feel your able to take it apart to get to the fan area and clean fan and heatsink.

When I close the lid of it and after the screens go black, I press the power button and the lights on the power button light up as the laptop would be on, but the screen remains black. So, got my Yoga yesterday. After repartitioning the hard drive (what is Lenovo thinking?) and restoring from my USB recovery disk, I have a nicely working computer. Except for one slightly annoying thing. When I flip the screen over into tablet mode the keyboard becomes disabled (perfect). When I flip the screen back over into the normal laptop position the keyboard remains disabled (ugh!!!). The only solution I have at the moment is to close the laptop and reopen it. The keyboard works again but I have to relog into Windows. Running Windows 8. Only things I did other then changing the drive partitions is remove some unwanted default software that was installed.

So I have already tried the solutions such as boot up the pc and press shift and such to get a menu and then download somthing on a usb and get into an administrator account. The Administration account I can at least log onto as it's not password protected but I still can't turn on Wi-Fi which basically defeats my whole purpose of using the computer as I use it for gaming. So regarding me not being able to log into my actual account, I've tried resetting my password multiple times without success. I think it's due to the fact that I am not able to connect to any Wi-Fi spots (which I assume is because of safe mode which I can't turn off for some reason) And that brings me to my next point, of I can't connect to Wi-Fi die to safe mode. I have tried to turn off safe mode in the settings but when I press the button for it to turn off it slides back over to the on side. Please let me know if you have any other solutions that I have not tried yet, Thanks !

Running Windows Vista Ultimate.

Display turns off after about fifteen minutes regardless of whether I am actively using the computer or not. The only way to turn the display back on is to close and then open the lid. This disconnets me from AOL, so I have to sign back on again, and if I was emailing, I might lose my current email.

Under Power Options, I have 'Turn off the display' set to Never for both On Battery and Plugged in. Under 'Put the computer to sleep' I have both On battery and Plugged in set to never. Nonetheless, the display still shuts off while I am working.

What do I need to do to prevent the display from turning off at odd intervals?

Once again the computer impaired one comes to the table of knowledge...

I shut down my PC, fans stop, lights go out. About 6-8 mins later it starts up again, been doing this for four days now. I ran a virus scan which came out clean. The only way to keep it turned off is to unplug it. The only tinkering I've done lately is to try to open a port on my router (which I didn't get done, forgot password and reset button doesn't work). I don't think my PC is set to hibernate, I have never used that feature.

Is there something I should check?

Immediately, I use Thinkpad Yoga 260 and now have a problem when it is turned off, then the next day my laptop turns on it doesn't want to turn on again. I pressed the power button, it just turned on the keyboard light for a while then died without having time to enter bios especially into Windows (the screen didn't have time to turn on). All indicator lights are on. Some of what I did;1. Press the reset button. This once managed to make my laptop turn on again, but then it had no effect.2. Also i update all software and Bios, but still forced same problem, then,3. I disassemble the laptop, pull out some connectors such as batteries, keyboards, and more. Some of these steps succeeded, until finally the problem arose and I went to the laptop service in my city.4. There was a slight problem with the supply of electric current on the motherboard and it was successfully fixed and my laptop turned on again. However, after one day the problem reappeared after the laptop was turned off. Luckily, my service place provides a one-month guarantee. But, I have returned to the service area with the same problem (more than 5 times). According to them, my motherboard has no problems, as well as other hardware. I still don't get the cause with this problem often arises. Sometimes a laptop can turn on only by pressing the reset button or opening the battery connector or plugging in the power cord and then I wait a while while the laptop is charging, and ... my laptop is back on... I have an E Machines T2385 purchased 4 years ago. When I turn the PC on, one of 2 things happens.
A) Nothing. Monitor flashes a No Signal message. The Hard Disk Drive access indicator light on PC is lit up. The Power indicator button is not

B) starts to boot up, get the pretty little e machines logo then screen message comes on about a problem, but shuts down within about 30 seconds. I?d be here all night if I tried to type out entire message but it starts with ?we apologize for the inconvenience but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this... It goes on about if there was a powder disruption... and am given choices to start in various modes such as Safe Mode, last configuration.. There are 4 I believe, I have tried all, but basically it shuts down
In all incidents the Hard Disk drive access indicator light remains on but the Power indicator n button is off.

Recent changes are SP2 update about 2 months ago, no problems I recognized. Switched to McAfee Antivirus (free through Comcast) Other than that no real changes. About a week ago I ran my Adaware, Spybot, tools, Panda Virus BitDefender scan and came up clean.

Any ideas what I am dealing with? Bring it in to say Best Buy for a repair or chuck it and buy a new PC?

Thanks for any suggestions, advice on how to proceed

A:Turn PC on, PC shuts down

This really looks like a hardware problem, and I have heard this model emachine has problems with their power supplies witch would be my first guess. I am unclear on if this particular machine can use a standard atx power supply that you can get from a retailer or you have to get one directly from emachines.

If you are familiar with computer hardware you could tell by just looking but without actually seeing it its just to hard to describe, I have looked on the emachine website for info but its very vague and just about useless.

If it would be a standard power supply you could pull one from a working machine for a test and if all the connections match then it should work.

You could also post over in hardware maybe someone there has actually worked on this model

Built a new desktop system about two months ago, everything's been working fine. Today it shut down immediately and will not turn back on. I left it unplugged for about 20-30 minutes, thought maybe it had overheated. When I pushed the power button the fan LED flashed and the fans spin for about one second, then everything quit. Tried again later. Same thing. Then I unplugged everything inside, took out the CMOS battery, put it back in, reconnected the PSU to the motherboard (but no components) and tried to turn it on. Again, same thing.

It had done this a couple times over the weekend - I mean a dead cold shut down, not the normal way - but it always turned back on. Not any more.

Bad PSU? It's a 700W OCZ ModXStream Pro. Been looking at the OCZ site for info., too. Looks like mine is dead, but wondering if it could be something else?

A:PC shuts down, won't turn on - bad PSU?

It could be something in the power circuitry on the motherboard. OCZ supplies are usually pretty reliable. I've been using them for years, but it's not unheard of to get a bad piece of any electronic equipment.

Try swapping out the supply and see if that helps. If it doesn't boot, start looking at the board.

i try and remove some ram sticks (got 4x1G) one by one without luck..so i leave it that way for like an hour and when i try again with all 4 rams in place it starts!!..

the second time it didn't start again till i put just 1 ram.it booted up..i put 2 rams together..it boots up..put 3 it still does..but when i put the 4 together i get an abnormal long beep and nothing..just the blank screen..leave it for an hour, put all 4 , and it starts again!!

now this time (3rd) i remove all rams and disconnected the power for like 30 mins then put them all in again and it booted up..i ran memtest on all 4 together with no errors, so now i am running memetest on each one alone..so far 2 passed with no errors and am still testing..

am starting to think it's not my ram..but every thing else is kinda new..my rig

A:PC shuts down, wont turn on for a while then it just does!

If the computer was operating without any errors before it died, then I would suspect the power supply. If you have another computer, you could try and swap the power supply.
The first thing I would do is check the power cord and make sure it did come unplugged.
If the power light is off — The computer is either turned off or is not receiving power.
• Reset the power cable into both the power connector on the back of the computer and the electrical outlet.
• If the computer is plugged into a power strip, ensure that the power strip is plugged into an electrical outlet and that the power strip is turned on.
• Ensure that the electrical outlet is working by testing it with another device, such as a lamp.
• Bypass power protection devices, power strips, and power extension cables to verify that the computer turns on.
• Ensure that the main power cable is securely connected to the system board.
• Ensure that the front panel cable is securely connected to the system board.
• Toggle the voltage selection switch on the back of the computer. For more

so as the title says when I turn on my laptop after about 5 seconds it turns off and about 2 seconds later it turns on by itself again shuts off again after 5 seconds. This is the first time this has ever happened to me. I leave my laptop on all day I dont turn it off unless I have to. I have my laptop set up on a desk. It does let the fan run and it isn't blocked. I've had my laptop set up in my desk for two years I never really move it unless I travel. My laptop does get really hot but I usually ignore it and I've been doing so for the last two years so I doubt that's the problem. My battery is charged so that's not the problem. Oh and when I woke up this morning my laptop was on but completely frozen I couldn't move anything so I had to shut it off by holding the power button. I tried letting the laptop cool off for a couple of hours and using a hair dryer to blow inside the fan I thought it would cool it down. I also used a vacume tube to suck out all the dust on the fan area and yet I still get the same problem. So if anyone has any suggestions that would be great thanks

A:my laptop shuts off right away when I turn it on

Welcome to TSF....

Never ignore a hot laptop (Overheated not stolen) Overheating can cause a lot of problems and especially one that is left running all of the time. Since the laptop does not stay turned-on long enough to do much I would suggest to take the laptop to a certified repair shop for a look see before it is too late. Contact the manufacturer of the laptop and find out where they recommend service.

I have an Emachine that was purchased in 2008 off the shelf. It currently has XP installed. I don't think it is specifically an XP problem, but that is what is installed so I will post it here.

Originally it came installed with Vista. A few weeks ago I noticed that when I turned it on, it would get part way through the startup process and just mysteriously power down, almost like a power blip because there would be no error message and no beep, just instant silence. I would push the power button again and would get the screen says that it shut down abnormally and could choose to enter safe mode. I would then pick normal boot up and then it would boot up. It usually would power down twice and then the third time it would start up. I have a friend who "knows computers". He doesn't like Vista, so he reformatted my hard drive, installed XP and gave it back to me. It continued to do the same problem. He figured it was the hard drive, so we bought a new hard drive and he installed XP on it and it does the same thing on the new hard drive. Now it will power down every time though. Once you get it up and running, it will run all day with no problems of it shutting down. It only appears to do it on startup.

I am on the computer right now. When I start it up, I have to push the power button the first time and it will boot up for maybe 3 seconds and then "power down" with no error messages or beeps. I then push the button again and choose s... Read more

Hi .Anytime the system powers down for no apparent reason...I tend to think "PSU". As title says, computer randomly shut off without warning and won't turn back on. However if I wait for a while or reset the bios by removing the battery it will then decide to start again. It seems to occur when I am putting decent load on the system, and will always happen after about ten minutes of running prime95.

My initial thoughts are overheating however monitoring with core temp the CPU never goes above 65 degrees. Another weird thing is after the shutdown the bios will reset by itself if I wait. I tested the PSU with a multimeter and the voltages are fine. I'm thinking PSU, CPU or mobo. What are your thoughts?

A:shuts off then wont turn on for a while

Another strange thing I've noticed. If I plug the CPU fan into the CPU fan connector on the motherboard the system overheats when under load. As the CPU heats up the fan seems to slow down. Starting at about 1100rpm and slowing to about 600rpm as the CPU overheats. I shut it off at 80 to prevent damage. I tried all the different fan settings - pwm, voltage and running at max all with the same result.

If i plug the fan directly into the PSU it doesn't overheat, but system still shuts off.

Im not sure what to do! Don't want to start replacing parts if I don't know what the problem is.

Dear forum,
I purchased a new ASUS G751JL-T7028H upgraded with 16 GB of RAM. It has an i7-4720, 128 GB ssd, 1 TB hdd and came with Win 8.1.
I open the box, plug it in, and after 2 min of use it shuts down and stops responding. After half an hour, I can boot it up again. After 5 min of usage, it shuts down again without responding afterwards. Only the light indicators blink once and that's it. I call ASUS and they told me to hold down Power Button for 15 sec. I do it, it starts working again. I start my windows set up from the beginning. Finally, I arrive at the desktop. I get update message.I click to update to win 10 and I get a BSOD (can't remember the issue name). It restarts, I try to update to win 10 through Microsoft's exe. I get a different BSOD. It restarts, I try to update drivers this time and it crashes again. No response, like in the beginning. I sent it back, they told me it's working fine, nothing wrong with it. I asked if they updated it and they said "we cant, the machine works just fine the way we sold it - updating is your problem. Call Microsoft".
Where all these issues come from? Why does it shut down and stop responding unless I keep that Power button pressed? Why so many BSOD?

This problem is accurring on a different computer than the one I'm on now. It's a HP with a Window XP Professional (Version 5.1, Service Pack 2) Operating System. Since it repeatedly shuts off in the normal turn on mode, I've also tried to start while pressing the F8 key, and then the Safe Mode option, as well as the option that says something like 'go back the the last working settings,' and neither works. The computer simply seems to start up normally (showing the desk top icons, etc.), but then shut itself off after approx. 1 to 3 minutes.

I have an XP drive, a vista drive, a server 2003 drive and will have either Mac OSX or Linux for the 4th partition; all depends on if I can get OSX to load correctly (different discussion).

Anyway, I was intrigued by this original discussion as I recently purchase a PQI 512 MB PC-2700 module for another laptop. It wouldn't work in that laptop, and it will cost me more to exchange it than to keep it and buy a new one, so I installed it into my Dell 8500 with 1GB PC-2100 RAM in it. Amazing enough to me, this actually worked together. I was always told that you could not mix 266 and 333 RAM together. I had been using this configuration for a week, and then, the other day, I was running several other applications and my desktop began to blink from seeing the icons, to seeing only the background. I found this very peculiar, so I restarted the computer. When it came up, it did the 3,2,1 problem of turning the explorer on, and then off, and the... Read more

Hello. I'm new on this site so hi to everyone and I hope you can help. I've seen a few posts along these lines but not exactly the same so -

Got a new PC from Evesham a couple of weeks ago - Core Duo E6400 / 2GB RAM . Worked fine but was supposed to have 2 x 200GB HD but only one fitted.
Evesham sent engineer with new drive on Tuesday.
But he couldn't physically installl the drive as intended as he wasn't given a bracket (the front panel USB cables inhibit installing it horizontally in the cage below fitted HD).
It was agreed that he would set the disk up on the system and arrange for the bracket and fixings to be sent out for me to fit myself.
Meanwhile the drive sits on the worksurface at the side of the case ( side panel is removed - who mentioned EMC ? ).
Engineer left disk to format - which it did . No apparent problem and PC used as normal.

But later I needed to Restart the PC when I was setting up some audio I/O.
The PC shut down but did not restart.
Testing / Observation since shows that it won't run successfully from Restart or if even I Turn Off then power back on within a short time ( I'm talking a minute or more - plenty of time for PSU to discharge etc.)
It always starts up but will shut off completely after a variable period - sometimes it will get through to showing desktop icons and it appears to be fine but then turns off.
When I say turn off I mean the power just goes off - fans ( case and processor / graphics ) s... Read more

A:PC shuts off after recent turn off / restart

It shouldnt make a difference if the second drive is attached or not, so long as you still have one hdd attached with an os. Theoretically speaking it is unlikely that the drive is causing this problem, with hdd faults you usually find that the drive simply will not be detected, or the pc will freeze / display read-write errors. However I am experiencing similar issues myself and havnt been able to completely rule out the drive as of yet.

okay, after a long time of shutting off with the power button, its come back to me...

i didn't think it would damage the computer, because i thought hey, they put it there for a reason right?

Nope, now every time i turn it on, it goes to login screen, and shuts down *Regularly, logs off, says shutting down..' cuts off anything i could possibly do...

i tried to run in safe mode, but it freezes at the disk.sys driver....then it gives me the vista installagtion screen....

I have so much stuff on my computer, i CANT reset it, i cant restart it, some of the stuff such as videos, pictures of my great grandfather, etc... are NOT replaceable....

Every time i try to run cmd prompt, and try to run chkdsk *Cant do it from the system properties as computer shuts down before then* it says the system is right protected...

so one time i got lucky and managed to click check for bad sectors and recover through the system befre it shut off, ok, computer shut down, restarted, it didnt even check for a second, just told me *this computer is clean* without even checking it....

I will NEVER turn it off from the power switch again, its just when i put it in sleep mode it turns on for no reason, and i get tired of it so i just hold down the switch...

Everything works fine, i can get into the account, nothings missing, all my programs, everything, it's just vista makes it shut down, and i dont know why...

focusing on getting the data off -
It may be possible to boot from another Operating System
This will at least test the Hardware and also see if you can see the Harddrive and possibly get data off.

If you have another PC with a cdwriter and spare CD
goto http://www.ubuntu.com/ and download the ISO

full details are here http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/wind...backup-files-from-your-dead-windows-computer/

click on the image "download ubuntu"
Select a location
then begin download
Save the file onto your PC – remember where you saved it – so you can find it again to create the image bootable CD.

You do NOT copy the ISO file onto a CD - you have to use the ISO to create a bootable CD
The CD creator software you have on the PC may have an option to create an image from an ISO
If not - use this free program http://www.imgburn.com/

When the UBUNTU CD boots - you will see the following options
1) Try ubunto without any change to your computer
2) Install ubuntu
3) Check CD for defects
4) Test memory
5) Boot from first hard disk.

Use OPTION 1 "Try ubunto without any change to your computer" ONLY this option this will run from the CD and not install onto your harddrive - be careful, if you do install onto the PC - you will wipe the data and software OFF your hard drive.., so repeat only use option 1

Now you should see a UBUNTU desktop
This at least proves the main parts of the PC are working

You may see your Harddrive on the deskt... Read more

A:My Computer shuts off a few seconds after i turn it on

Hi Millurn welcome to the site.

seem odd that they Would BOTH not work. Might be the CPU might be at fault here. I am surprised that it does not work as everything is compatible.

It also sounds like it might be the PSU. Can you get hold of another 400W plus PSU and see if that works. If so then you know what the Issue is.

hope this helps

Ok here is my story---I play this game Red Alert 2---I use to play it on a 56k modem----I had cable installed yesterday and when I play the game against other users online and the game comes to an end-my computer automaticly Shuts OFF Then Back ON again. This never happened when I used 56k----Is there anyone that has had a simular problem.

A:Computer Shuts OFF then Back On.

the only thing I can think of is check your ingame options, most games allow you to set the connection type, if it's set for modem change it to cable/dsl.

Hello, I have a huge problem with a customers desktop which is a Dell Inspiron One 19T, at first the problem was the drivers, sound and touch screen drivers where a hassle but I managed to fix this following an order

Fixing Touchscreen
Repair HDD Sectors using a third party bootable program like Partition Magic, Formatted the HD and installed Windows 8 Pro x64. After activating the OS I used Windows Update and installed all important updates.
After restarting, I updated .NET Framework 4.5 and installed NextWindow version 3.1.6, you can find this driver in catalog.update.microsoft.com after the installation, touch screen worked perfectly.

Fixing Audio
Fixing the audio was a breeze, just download Conexant High Definition Smart Audio and install the driver after a chipset installation from Dell Support, you can find this drivers in Dell Support page.

Just leaving a few instructions incase anyone has the same problem.

Back to the problem, this Dell Inspiron One 19T turns off when writing a large file onto the HDD, for example, after I installed all drivers, I started sending archives from a back up HDD I had to the Dell Inspiron One 19T, after a few minutes it then turned off without any warning and it wouldnt turn back on until after a few minutes. I have a feeling it has something to do with the HDD and the MOBO. Any ideas or solution would be VERY appreciated because these DELL computers are VERY annoying.
Thank you

A:Desktop shuts down and doesnt turn off until after a few minutes

1. Welcome to Tech Support Guy

2. I think I am correct in saying that Dell does NOT list drivers for that computer for Windows 8, indeed your post appears to indicate this.
The fact you have managed apparently to find drivers that work - and frequently Windows 7 drivers will - does not mean that Windows 8 will like them and you may well encounter problems, as indeed it appears you are

3. This is what concerns me most
Repair HDD Sectors using a third party bootable program like Partition MagicClick to expand...

What please do YOU mean by repair HDD sectors - as if you refer to a sector listed as a bad sector and it is really IS a bad sector, in that the part of the disc cannot retain data, then there is NO program that can REALLY repair it.

i recently bought a new video card, processor, psu and motherboard.what seems to be the problem? i really dont have any idea why my systems shuts down. i replaced the new psu with another one but it turned off again. the technician revived it but after hes gone it turns off again.is it the mainboard or the psu? or any component?thnx.

A:Why does my system shuts down automatically and doesnt turn on again?

Firstly, are you sure the PSU you installed is of sufficient wattage? If it's not, that's your problem. Also make sure your PSU's ATX motherboard connector is securely locked into your motherboard.

If those are not the problem then when you start your computer, does it POST (Beep at startup)? If it does, describe the beeps it gives, long and short in order. These beeps are the power-on self test which tests your hardware to ensure it works, if something isn't working it will give a certain beep sequence which tells you what the problem is if you know your BIOS's beep codes.

Also, along with the beep sequence, we need to know what BIOS you are running.

A:BSOD Computer shuts downs at turn on again

Hi, nta, and welcome to the the forum. I looked at your three most recent dumps. All three are bugcheck 3B and all blame atikmdag.sys, your video driver. However it is possible that something else is conflicting with your video driver. I suggest you eliminate these possibilities first before we look at your video card.

I recommend that you uninstall Daemon Tools. It uses a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs. Use this SPTD uninstaller when you're done: DuplexSecure - Downloads. Select uninstall; do NOT select reinstall.

Here is a free alternative CD virtualization program that does not use the sptd.sys driver.
Freeware MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM(MagicDisc) Overview

Next, I suggest that you uninstall Norton. Norton is a known cause of BSOD's on some Win 7 systems. Use this removal tool: Tool. Download and install Microsoft Security Essentials in its place while you are troubleshooting.

Follow these suggests, reboot and let's see if your system is more stable. Post back and let us know. If you get anther BSOD, upload it and we will go from there.

I just bought parts (over a period of time) for a new custom computer and I have been slaving away at pulling it together. I have everything set up, but the computer won't start. It powers on, whines at a really high pitch, and then shuts down. The motherboard light stays on, but everything else just shuts down. I tried stripping it so now I only have the CPU, PSU, hard drive, graphics card, and motherboard attached. It seems like as soon as the fan for the CPU starts, the whining--and the shutting down--starts. There's nothing in the way of the fan at all. Can anybody help me?

A:Computer starts up and then shuts right back down

Some motherboards have a 4 or 6 pin connector near the CPU socket. Make sure you have the correct power supply plug connected. It is easy to plug in the wrong connector. Even if your power supply has a 4 pin connector and the motherboard has a 6 pin plug, you can sometimes plug in the 4 pin plug and it will boot normally. There are many other things that can cause this symptom....
