Pavilion x360: no Tablet Mode auto-switching in Windows 10

Q: Pavilion x360: no Tablet Mode auto-switching in Windows 10

I just did a clean installation of Windows 10 on a client's Pavilion x360 2-in-1 (model 11-n010dx), and Windows won't automatically switch to/from Tablet Mode the way it's supposed to (tent or tablet = Tablet Mode, laptop = normal mode). I took care to install all the available hardware drivers & utilities from the HP support site, especially those that seemed related to slate mode detection (GPIO, Virtual Buttons, HP System Event Utility, etc.). I have no missing drivers or "Unknown devices" in Device Manager. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Let me also add that I just restored this laptop to factory from the restore partition, and it STILL won't go into tablet mode when flipped fresh out of the box.  I also can't get the screen to rotate.  This can't be a software issue, it worked when I first purchaesed it!!!  What do I do???

HiI bought this for my daughter this Christmas and after registering using the keyboard it suddenly stopped working and I could only use the touch screen keyboard. Then for no reason at all the pc display went in to tablet mode and won't come out of it.I have tried a total reset and everything I described above happens again. I have downloaded all the drivers etc again and rebooted and the outcome is still the same. Have wondered if throwing it against a wall would help, but realised that would only help me and not the laptop.Has anyone had this problem and if so how did you resolve it?Thanks

Hi @kippa22?, Welcome to the HP Forums!  It is a terrific place to find answers and tips! For you to have the best experience in the HP forum I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide:Learn How to Post and More. I understand that you purchased the Pavilion x360 as a Christmas present for your daughter.  After setting it up, and registering on the HP website the keyboard stopped responding. You could only use the on screen keyboard.  Suddenly the display went into tablet mode and  you could not change the mode back.  You have tried a total reset and installed any driver updates, but the issue remains. Have you ran the HP Support Assistant?  Have you ran the Windows troubleshooter? Would you check this setting. Click the Windows button (lower left corner)Clcik on  settingsClick on  system to  open it.In the left pane of the screen, scroll down to the bottom until you see "Tablet Mode"Verify that  it is set to off. Please let me know the outcome. Best of Luck and Happy Holidays!

Lenovo X380 Yoga When going from laptop mode to tablet mode ( folding keyboard) and coming back to laptop mode with keyboard the mouse pointer never comes back.  Also when in tablet mode the screen will not auto-rotate.  I reimaged the computer by downloading the latest image from Lenovo and also ran the system companion to receive all updates.  Currently running Windows 10 version 1709.  The only way to get the mouse pointer back to to restart the machine.  Any ideas? Also noticed that if I close the lid and then wait until the machine enters sleep mode,  once lid is opened the mouse pointer comes back.

Hi, I've recently bought the HP Pavilion x360 (15-bk060sa) which came with the HP Pro Tablet 408 Active Pen. As it came in a bundle together, I presumed the stylus works with the laptop but I can't seem to get it to to connect. The pen is simple to "assemble" (i.e. unscrew and put the battery in) but the laptop isn't reacting to the pen whatsoever - in either normal or tablet mode.   Any ideas? Or is it just a random product that was thrown in as part of a deal?

Tablet mode will not be enabled and keyboard will not turn off, which basically makes the mode completely unusable. Also if I manually activate tablet mode screen will not rotate and keyboard still stays enabled. I have tried to install latest drivers a few times, didn't do anything good. BIOS is also the latest version. So, any suggestions? Thanks!

I want to disable tablet mode so the keyboard remains active when I open the screen 360 degrees (I want to use the computer and its on-board keyboard with an external monitor.) I have been to Settings/tablet mode.  I don't see a general toggle to turn it off.   I have set it to always open in desktop mode, and to ask me before switching to tablet.  I always tell it no, but it turns off the keyboard anyway. I know the machine CAN do what I want -- if I open the screen to 360 over and over, once in a while the keyboard stays active for me.  Seems entirely random, though.  Any insight? Thanks!

So I recently received my spectre x360 back after having a faulty hinge repaired to realize that the autorotation into tablet mode does not work. When the screen flips back the keyboard remains active and the laptop doesn't seem to detect that the screen has been flipped. The lock rotation button is greyed out in both display settings and quick settings. In my regedit the rotation is set to 0 and I have tried to switch it back to 1 but every time I restart it just goes back to 0. I have booted my windows back through a system recovery drive I got from HP but the problem still persists. If anyone could help me with this problem I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

My laptop is auto typing the  letter "p" non stop, making the latop almost completely unusable. How/when did this start happening you ask? So I had to do a complete reset of my PC because it was running way too slow (HP's rediculous bloatware I was guessing). When I restored the PC to factory settings, in other words keeping the bloatware, the disk still ran at 100% even when I had a "clean install". So I decided to reset the computer not using HP's terrible factory settings. After this totally clean reset, the letter "p" started auto typing. I've tried installing drivers for everything (HP can you please make a better driver download option - what you have now is a terribly monotonous task), but to no avail. Anyone know a fix for this?I'm pretty certain I'll never buy HP again in my life. I've had 2 systems, and both have been an absolute nightmare. Thanks in advance.

Hi! I'm finding the taskbar to be useful in desktop mode (where I tend to be using more apps), but to be a waste of space in tablet mode (where I want a full-screen experience). Is there any way to set the taskbar to auto-hide only in tablet mode?
Thanks!

A:how to set taskbar to auto-hide in tablet mode?

I'm also looking for the same functionality.

So far, all searches yielded negative for this functionality; thus, I can't believe that they did this to us!!! To me, the beauty of the MUI apps was the usage of the full screen real estate. Now, you switch to Tablet mode and you get the stupid Taskbar area.

Yes, I know the MUI apps still have the option to maximize to full-screen, but this--as far as I have been able to test an confirm--is done at an app by app level.

All that is needed is a new option for the Tablet Mode settings: Auto-hide Taskbar?

But if I were to really thoughtfully implement this, I'd duplicate the Desktop settings for the Taskbar fpr Tablet mode. Therefore, in Tablet mode, you could choose the location, etc.

I can't help but believe the auto-hide feature must be coming in an update because I can't believe MS can be so stupid and blind as to not see this requirement.

Hi

We have bought a Portege Z20t-C-121 to test it as a replacement for some of our senior management. I re-built it with Windows 10 Enterprise and installed all the latest Drivers from the Toshiba Website. The Intel Wi-Fi Driver did not work correctly so I downloaded and installed it from the Intel website.

The only thing I can't get to function seems to be the auto screen rotation; when I un-dock the screen to use it as a tablet Windows detects this and switches to tablet mode but, however I turn the screen it remains in the same landscape orientation that it was in when it was docked.

OS Name: Microsoft Windows 10 Enterprise
OS Version: 10.0.10586 N/A Build 10586

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get this feature to work please?

Hello,
I have been using my Inspiron 13 5378 since December 2016. After working normally for few days my screen stopped auto-rotating. I sent my laptop back to Dell for repair and received it after a month in April. Very frustrating thing.
When I received the repaired laptop the auto orientation was working fine but it stopped working again after a couple of days.
I don't know what is triggering this but I have tried myriad of solutions available online including reinstalling chipset and sensor drivers, disabling and re-enabling sensors in device manager, setting sensor services to start automatically and much more.
But still, the auto-rotate feature is not working.
I don't want to send my laptop back to dell again for another month, please suggest any solution if you know it.

Why is it that if I am typing in a window, then open another application and then go back to typing in that window and then it will auto switch to the application that I set to open.

I don't want it doing this and wonder if it can be stopped. For example I am typing in this form and then open a java app. that requires a password, it will switch to that java app. while I am typing in this window. I want it to where I will manual go to that application and then log in when I am ready.

Any thoughts!!!

A:Windows auto switching

Is this happening AFTER the new program has been up and running for a time? Or right at the start of that other program opening?

If it is at the startup of that other program there is nothing you can do about it. "YOU" actually asked to have the focus shifted to that other program by opening it.
The only thing you can do is wait for that other program to open fully then switch back to your original program.
That is if you haven't ASKED that other program to do something in the background and when it is done doing that it is notifying you that it has finished.

I wonder if it's an integrated part of Windows 8? In Device manager it comes under "Sensors" and it's labelled as "Simple Device Orientation Sensor"

I recently bought a X230 tablet. Actually I did not realise that it can rotate screen in tablet mode automatically, at least in Windows 7 and Windows 8. I performed a clean install of Windows 10 and obviously it did not support auto rotate even with all the drivers that Lenovo System Updater helped me installed. One thread in this forum solved auto rotate in Windows 8. It is largely the same to that thread. Except that for Windows 10 you need to let the X230 recognise the built in accelerometer which is actually mainly intended for protecting hard drive from being damaged after free fall. Incidentally accelerometer found its way in Sony's hard drive walkman HD5 before, which also has hard drive accidentally falling protection and screen auto rotating function. All you need is 2 pieces of software: 1. I have set adaptive brightness to off and also turned off Intel's Display Power Saving Technology. But I noticed that the entire screen changes brightness (or contrast) while I switch between 2 windows (pictures). Is this normal?

I posted a video so you can see the problem (or is it?) in action

If you also want to test it out yourself, here are the images used while switching windows.

I also want to mention another issue I'm having (which I think is related to the one above, that's why I'm worried). I purchased an Asus X454LD last 5/5, and for some reason it keeps on flickering static. Sometimes not entirely on the screen, and not an opaque static but a translucent one that overlays with the work area. Then I got the unit replaced with a new one last 5/10 and the issue's still there. There are no specific programs or time that triggers this problem, it just happens. I even reinstalled both the Intel HD graphics driver and the dedicated 820m driver. I posted a video that shows the problem in action as well.
