Spectre x360 Sleep/Awake ability with lid closed

Q: Spectre x360 Sleep/Awake ability with lid closed

I've had several calls with support on this issue and I'm getting conflicting answers (hardware issue to x360 does not have these features) and would love to hear from users alike. I use my laptop plugged in most of the times with external docking station, monitor, keyboard and mouse. And I have my laptop lid closed so I can pretty much hide the laptop under my desk. Windows 10 setting is fairly simple where I disabled "sleep" when lid closed. Issue is that the sleep button does not work when the lid is closed. I cannot put the computer to sleep or awake by pressing the button. It does nothing. Also, when the laptop is sleeping (flashing white light on the sleep button) I cannot awake the laptop via external mouse or keyboard. Nothing. The only way to awake the laptop is to open the lid, which I have to remove the laptop from my desk slot to do and put it back in once it's awake. I changed windows setting to allow awaking laptop via mouse/keyboard, disabled docking hub power saving, etc etc. The sleep button by the way works when the laptop is in tablet mode. But still no external mouse/keyboard awake. Soooo.... 1. Is this issue isolated or do ALL Spectre x360 have the same limitation?2. If you have had this issue and got it fixed, please share your findings/experience. Ideally, if the power button is disabled by design, then fine, but I would still like to awake the laptop by moving the mouse or keyboard. This is the first laptop I ever had that CANNOT do this...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So, this is my second Spectre x360 15 in model and it has the same issue. When im not mobile, and working from home, I close the laptop and plug it into my docking station and HDMI adapter to work with a full keyboard and dual screens. But, everything I do this, the wifi drops instantly.  The first spectre x360 I had did this too, so I know its not a defect. Is nobody else having this issue?  It will work just fine if I even "crack" the screen open a little (literally half inch) and the wifi goes to full bars, but as soon as I close the lid completely, it drops to the point that pages wont load.  I believe this is a design flaw, but I've google and searched with nobody else complaining?  Help

When I tilt the screen back, my computer sometimes goes into sleep mode, or at least it appears to be in sleep mode (the screen goes blank and the power button flashes).  To get it back on I usually have to press and hold the power button until it completely shuts down, then reboot.  It appears to happen when the hinges get bent in a certain way.  Is there a cable or ribbon that runs across the back of the unit that might be getting pinched?  How can I troubleshoot this and get it fixed?

Purchased Spectre 15 X360 (2017 model) a few days. Machine does not shut down or sleep. within seconds of shut down or sleep, starts up again. On Shutdown : restarts within seconds. On Sleep : comes back to login screen. Closing the lid doesnt help either.  Only way to shut the PC is by hard shutdown by pressing the power button for a few seconds. talked to customer support for couple of days without any luck.Tried system restore, all possible power options, updated windows / hp packs. Purchased the system in US and since I am out of the country, unable to return. Would like to know if anyone else have faced similar problem with this laptop. Being a new model that started shipping last week, there will be only a few out there.

I left my laptop alone for a few minutes and when I came back, my display was off and the power led was blinking. I tried [ressing the power button, but the screen did not turn on and power led continued to blink. At the time the charging led was white, meaning the battery was fully charged. I waited a few days to see if draining the battery would allow me to turn the commputer on but that hasn't worked. Now, when I plug the adapter in and try to turn on the laptop, the charging led (now orange, not white) and the power led blink on and off simultaneously. I tried plugging the display to an external monitor too and since the computer has been stuck in this mode, nothing has shown up. I have viewed the HP page for hard reset but it did not work for me: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01684768 I have also viewed the HP led flashing page and tried the steps. They did not work: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01732674 Can anyone help me fix this asap? This laptop was going strong and I've taken really good care of it. I don't see why this computer should die on me after using it for 4 months.

Hi,
Selecting START - SLEEP works fine, but waking up does not work.
My one month old, brandnew bought pc does not come awake from sleep.
Pc is built around a ASUS motherboard P8Z77-V LE
CPU Intel(R) Core(TM)i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50 GHz
8 Gb DDR3memory
Gigabyte graphics card GV-R577SL-1GD (ATI HD5770)
Operating system Windows 7 SP1
SP/2 Keyboard

All drivers for the hardware and software are up to date.

On the PC housing there is the (soft) ON/OFF button with Power Led.

A lot of e-mails with Support.Asus.com and trying different
settings and other experiments did not lead to a solution.

As written above, the pc can be switched into Sleepmode by
selecting START-SLEEP under Widows or
pressing the ON/OFF switch of the pc (default programmed so).
In both cases the Power Led is flashing now.
The led in the USB Optical Mouse is then switched off.
The Num Lock led on the keyboard stays ON.
As soon I press one of the key's of the PS/2 keyboard to
initialize the pc to awake, the flashing Power Led of the pc is then switched off.
There is still a voltage on the keyboard because the Num Lock led is still on.
The led in the USB Optical Mouse is still off.
The only wayup to now to switch the pc back on is to unplug the pc from the mains, wait till the Num Lock led
is switched off and then plug the mains back.
Then you will get the black Windows screen to start up Windows on the normal way
but the data which was in memory is lost.
I have experimented

Run Windows Updates to see if there are Important or Optional Windows Updates to install including drivers, after enabling Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3).

Hi everyone, and thank you in advance for your help.

About two weeks ago, my Windows 10 computer received the Anniversary Update. When it rebooted after the update, a bunch of programs weren't working properly anymore (probably because they're old, I had some registry hacks, etc.), so I told it to restore the previous version in the Settings menu (I don't remember the exact language, and the option isn't there anymore). This just sent it into a loop where it would start booting, say something like, "restoring previous version of operating system", then reboot. It would loop like this every 15 seconds, and I left it running at least 4 hours before I gave up on it booting up again.
Since then, I got into the boot menu, backed up some of my files from the command line, then wiped the partition and reinstalled Windows 10 from scratch. I've reinstalled most of my programs, moved my files back, and mostly gotten it up and running again. However, there's still one significant problem I've been unable to fix since I reinstalled Windows.

If my computer has only been "awake" for an hour or so, it goes to sleep without any problems. However, if it's been on for longer (I don't have an exact timeframe, but it always seems to fail if it's been more than three hours), it doesn't go to sleep properly.
Normally, when my computer goes into sleep mode, the screen goes dark, then after a few seconds, the lights on the Airplane Mode and Mute buttons go out, and the Power button sta... Read more

A:monitor goes into sleep mode right away when comp on and will not awake

Hi MrExclusive,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

Try booting into Safe Mode and see if the problem occurs there as well. If not, you should be able to make the necessary changes in Start / Control Panel / Power Management to revise when the monitor goes to sleep.

Do you have another user account on the system? Try logging into that and see if the same problem occurs? If not, then we may be able to change the power settings with this other account (but we will need to do so for the account with the problem). But before going there, let's see if this even works.

If that doesn't work, do you know when this problem began? Try a System Restore to a point in time BEFORE the problem began. Here's the procedure: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76905-system-restore-how.html. Be sure to check the box to show more than 5 days of restore points. If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two. NOTE: You will have to re-install any software and updates you installed between now and the restore point, but you can use Windows Update for the updates. Use the recovery disk if the system prompt doesn’t work. The recovery disk works a bit different from the above procedures but if you follow the prompts from the System Restore menu option with the above information you should be able to restore with no problems.

If you don't have a disk, you can make a bootable Recovery Disk using http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-disc-download/ along with burn... Read more

Hello, Whenever I try to awaken my laptop after it has been put to sleep either by pressing the power button, a key or touching the trackpad a continuous, beating/clicking sound can be heard from the laptop. I have tried putting the device to sleep with a single press of the power button and through the windows 10 start-->power menu. Both yield the same results. I only noticed this issue yesterday morning.  All device drivers and windows patches are up to date. Any ideas? Kind Regards.

A:System cannot awake from sleep, random clicking sound

Missed the recent windows 10 updates that were installed. KB3149135 seems to be the culprit. There was no option to uninstall this particular update from the "View installed updates" option in the "Program and features" window therefore I had to perform a system restore.  A quick google search suggests that I am not the only one having issues with this update.  Kind Regards.

I have a strange issue, whenever the pc is awake from sleep it became very slow in general, also when I play a video file (YouTube or Local) it has a humming sound and slow response (Lagged) video. I have already updated my audio and video drivers. Before the OS upgrade I never have this strange issue. Any solution? Thanks

A:PC slow (humming sound/video) after awake from sleep

What browser are you using and is the hum on every single video?

Better specify which video and audio drivers you are using, as well, since it's an older video card, I would only use the one from the manufacturer's web site as official.

Have you installed the chipset driver for the motherboard? That's probably the issue.

Gateway's site probably is of no help, since that system was built for XP.

What you can do is use cpu-z from cpuid.com to determine the actual motherboard brand and model and then look for a driver for it, instead.

That's the trouble with older hardware: drivers....

This includes the HD controller as well, that might be using 7's generic one at this point.

They both look the same. The only noticeable difference is that HP Spectre x360 has a Radiance Infinity display, while HP Envy x360 has an IPS display. Moreover, I thought that IPS is better than TN, which is my guess that is the technology used for the Radiance Infinity.

Hi, You've got few questions about those products. Well, come to a store and yoy can see the differences. This is my first SSD { fairly new), and wonder if the SSD might be more prone to corrupt files and/or not being able to correct them all.

Hello MY Spectre is occasionally turning on while it is in my backback with the lid closed. Just last night I opened the bag to find it very hot. The battery was also at 15% from 100% since I unplugged it, closed the lid, put it in my bag and did not use it. The power settings are set to sleep on lid close, besides that it should fall asleep after 10 mins on battery.  Does anyone know or have an idea why this could happen? Or know of a solution?

My  HP Pavilion x360 will only charge when the lid is closed or the computer is in sleep mode. I have tried changing any relevant power settings and have already consulted multiple friends. I'm wondering if there's a hidden setting I have yet to discover The HP assistant check said the battery is OK.  I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to 10 some time ago not sure if there is a link to the problem I saw a thread for the fix for the Windows 8.1 but sure if that will work for Windows 10 tried a few of the videos on you tube  about uninstalling  drivers but they did not help. any clues please

Hi, I have an HP Spectre x360 that is a year and 5 months old. I was running it off the battery when suddenly a whole lot of smoke started coming from underneath the notebook and a smell of burnt plastic filled the air. Reading the forum I found that this is not something new to these HP Spectre x360 notebooks. Its it really possibile that HP have not activated a support program for who owns such an expensive notebook. My notebook is out of warrenty but I honestly think it was a close call, i was working on a wooden table when it started burning. Now I have a 1250 euro paper weight. I did try to contact support and was immediatly cut off once i gave them my serial number, or offered to pay for support. Will paying 30 euros actually achieve something, ie will they attempt a repair or will it be 30 euros just to be told over the phone that its something that simply cannot be repaired. Thanks

Upon opening the notebook on my desk, a series of cracks surfaced on the upper-left bezel of the screen, and extended across the screen. I keep my notebook for the most part on my desk, and when I travel, I put in the HP leather case, and in a well-paded bag. I've owned this notebook since August last year, and it has performed excellently besides the occaisonal loud fan noise and overheat.  I talked with a helpful HP Customer Support Rep, and I was told that if I were to send in my notebook, and screen damage will be presumed inflicted by the customer. I have also been in contact with the HP Executive board, but their reply did not grant me any help. I would like to know if I can send in my notebook for a proper examination, or if I can speak with a case manager on this issue. I really do not want to file a complaint to the BBB, but I feel that will be necessary if the material defect is to be assumed a damage on my part. Thank you in advance. I will include pictures of my display, as well as pictures of the siding to prove the lack of physical/blunt damage.

Hello, Last winter purchased a convertible lenovo laptop. The first one had faulty hinges, I had it replaced on the same day I brought it in and the second one had faulty hinges and a faulty touchpad. So, I decided to ditch the cheaper computers and splurged on a HP spectre x360 from Best Buy. I live 200 kilometres away from large retail stores like this so getting back and forth is quite difficult, Staples was very understanding about the Lenovo laptops, however Best Buy told me there was nothing I could do when I described the problems I was having with my brand new HP. Several months went by and I avoided using the computer as much as possible in order to avoid facing the mistake I made in purchasing it. Eventually, my old computer became completely obsolete and I had no choice but use this HP.  My problems were not limited in any way. They ranged from an extremely annoying touchpad that sounded loose and made strange noises, the fact that the screen was closing on an odd angle, and the fact the the screen could barely stay open. A slight touch or even shifting the laptop would cause the screen to move. I could forgive these flaws if I had abused this computer or if it had received heavy usage, however I barely even turned the thing on. I contacted HP support and I must admit that they were polite, friendly and had my return materials sent very quickly.  My first bad sign involving the shipping process was the fact tha... Read more

The 1-minute hold of the power switch worked for me, but it is darn hard to do because of the somewhat inconvenient power switch position - and if you waver for a moment then the 60 seconds starts again. I found it easiest to turn the 360 on its side on a table and then it is easier to hold the switch down for the full minute uninterrupted. This for me only points out the importance for manufacturers to provide a HARD RESET capability through an unfolded paperclip or the like. C'mon guys, give us what we need to maintain our products!

Just finished setting up my second Spectre x360 15t. The first one was a driver and screen flickering mess. As I'm finishing putting it through it's paces by running audio with a few tunes through Spotify and then over to Netflix to check dialogue, I've become aware that the fan has been running for some time. When I picked it up to feel the underside I was quite dismayed to feel how hot this thing was. Not cozy up to the fire hot but call the fire department hot. It was on a Xpad which was starting to get a bit toasty itself. No way this could ever sit directly on my lap. I know this is an ultrabook. I know i7 processors run warm under load but this fella gets HOT. I'm coming off a Spectre 13t with an i5 which is just as tight a unit as this one, but it never reached this kind of hot. I'm humorously concerned if I can put this on my desk while under heavy load without melting the finish off. Is anyone else experiencing similar circumstances? I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

New owner of HP Spectre x360 - 13-4003dx here. I want to ask if the bottom of the laptop, the area above the fan openings where the FCC info/text lies, is supposed to creak when I press it slightly. I first heard this noise when I took my laptop out of the sleeve and held that area. At first I thought it was just rubbing against the sleeve, but after further examination, that is not the case. If this occurs with other models of the Spectre, it is a bad build quality, I am not sure which component is under there, but I want to know if the creaking noise is normal with only a slight press along the text area. Thanks.

I have the same problem but in the front, in the back of the touchpad... really annoying. looks like the lid doesn't have nothing to lay on and the aluminium is very thin. poor quality for such expensive machine.

HP's lack of quality control is completely unacceptable and inexcusable, especially given the cost of the Spectre x360 line.I went through 5 (FIVE!) 13-inch Spectre x360's. All but one exhibited very loose trackpads (even very light taps will physically move the trackpad down and have an annoying loose click sound when taking your finger off of it). The one with an okay trackpad had USB-C issues. The trackpad -- arguable THE most important part of a laptop -- now feels like garbage. Hell, there are $200 Windows laptops and Chromebooks that have better trackpads than this $1,200 thing. It's extremely frustrating and disappointing. I REALLY wanted for the Spectre x360 to be my laptop (especially considering there's no other 2-in-1 out there that looks this good and is priced as nicely). Looks like the Lenovo Yoga 720 is next on my list. Just wish it had IR cameras for facial logins.

Not the X360 when it's in a hard lock. >>Why would you need to hold down the power switch for 60 seconds?  5-7 second hold is enough to force power down any computer.
