Windows 8 Fresh Install Fails (Error Code TBF).

Q: Windows 8 Fresh Install Fails (Error Code TBF).

Hey guys!

So I will start by saying I am pretty tech savvy, so don't try to dumb it down for me. If I have a question, I will ask!

So, we got a computer into our class (I'm a student at a High School). It is a personal favour. It started with Dell telling me it couldn't locate it's BCD FIles. I did some tracking, and couldn't find the files needed, and they don't have any discs or USB's provided by the OEM. Great. That's a problem.

My second thought was to grab Hiren's BootCD v15.2 to grab anything important off of the drive (It has Linux and MiniXP. Both options failed. Kind of starting to irritate me at this point. I asked the person if anything important was on there, the answer was no, so I went with a full reinstall.

Now, I do have a Dell DIsc, which is authorized for any Dell Computer to install Windows 8. But of a brick wall, but no R/W Disc. Transferred things into an ISO for a USB stick using Rufus. Boot into it, fails. Now I'm really mad. At this point I went into the CMD from "Repair" option in the stick. I cleaned the drive of ALL info, drive letters, everything. I created a new volume to store info, assigned a Drive letter ( C:\ ). The new drive is a RAW data storage type, "converted", got an error, checked and it said it was NTFS. Great, reboot, retry an Install -- fails.

I'm quickly running out of options now. I'm lost to what to do, the issue simulates what happened to my personal machine a number of years ago, but that was 2 years ago. How I fixed it, I don't know.

Again, I'm a tech (sort of), so don't be afraid to get techy with me!

Any help is appreciated.

Preferred Solution: Windows 8 Fresh Install Fails (Error Code TBF).

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So I had to do a System Repair thing where Windows would repair itself and removing all my apps but keep my documents, photos and music etc. So I was reinstalling every program again and also wanted to install the updates.

But I ran into 0x800f0922 error code and I couldnt install them. (I run Windows 8.1 Pro) I was trying to install Adobe Photoshop but couldnt continue cuz .NET framework 3.5 was required. But after trying to manually download + install I got
the same error (0x800f0922). I've tried almost every cmd command but couldnt fix it. (im a kinda noob on it anyways)

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi just logged into the forum and hope someone can help. I have tried to install this update six times today (07/05/12) after it was flagged as an important update this morning. Looking at my update history it also failed to instal on the 18th October last year but it has not bothered me since and i have not noticed it until now. Of the seven attempts I had the following error codes from earliest to latest : 800B0100, 80246007, 80010108, 8024200D, 8024200D, 8024200D, 8024200D. I have followed advice from MS running KB947821 and FIX IT also disabled my Norton 360 firewalls and auto protect but to no avail. If anyone can help please bear in mind I am not a techie so will need to be told what to do fully. I have read advice on editting the registry but I do not go there! There be dragons!! Also I do not have a DVD with Windows 7 as it was not supplied with my PC and I don't want to restore my computer and lose all my installed software. Any help would be much appreciated. Should I just hide the update and ignore it or will that come back and bite me? Thanks in anticipation.

Hi there,

I'm having an issue with a laptop running Windows 7 Home x64 SP1. It has failed to install Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.320 and keeps trying every time I try to run updates.

I've downloaded the installer and tried to run it manually, but that gives me the error 0x80070002

I've attached my CBS log from the last time I attempted the install. Any help will be much appreciated!

Hey everyone! I just bought parts for a new system build:

AMD Phenom II x6 Thurban Blk Edition 3.2 Ghz
16 GB Corsair Vengeance PC 1600
ASUS M4A87TD EVO mobo
Nvidia Geforce 560 Ti 1GB Gfx card
Sony Optiarc 56x CD/DVD rom (SATA)
WD 2TB 7800 RPM HD (SATA)

After piecing everything, it fired right up so I went into BIOS and set the boot priority for DVD rom > HD. Placed my windows 7 64 disc in, saved and exited, and things seemed to go ok until windows gave me the error code mentioned in the title of this thread.

"Windows could not format the partition on disk 0. The error occurred while preparing the partition selected for installation. Error code: 0x80070057."

This error shows every time I try to install Win 7. The HD is brand spanking new, and I did click the "new" option in advanced settings to set and format a partition. The REALLY weird thing is that when this happens, my bios settings reset back to default values!

Why is this happening? Do I have a bad motherboard? Bad HD? Bad OS disk? I don't have duplicates of anything so it's impossible to troubleshoot by elimination. I really don't know what else to do now, I'm close to giving up on this system and just sending everything back to Newegg and cutting my losses.

Any advice would be golden at this point, thanks for any help you guys can lend!

BUYER BEWARE: the case is an Azza Hurricane 2000 BLK. Anyone who uses this case in a system build REMOVE the hot swap interface cards that are installed in the drive bays, as they do not work as designed. I hope this helps anyone building a system that might be running into a similar problem.

So I launched my PC the other day and was greeted with a BSOD. System repair didn't work so I decided now would be a good time to install the Samsumg 840 EVO SSD that has just been sitting in my room for a while.

So I unplugged the harddrive and then plugged in the SSD, but when installing I was greeted with error code 0x8007045D.

The error appears during the "Expanding files" part of the install at around 4%, and the dialogue advises to check for missing files.

Here's all of the things I've tried:

Downloading an ISO from digital river
Microsoft's own USB boot drive software AND command prompt
Running Memtest - it came out clear
Changing from ACHI to IDE mode
Undoing all overclocking on the system
Cleaning the SSD with the command prompt
Resetting the BIOS settings to default
Disabling secure boot
Unplugging any unnecessary peripherals
Those are all the things I can think of.
Has anyone got any more ideas? It's really frustrating that I can't use my PC at all at the moment (especially with Thief about to come out - I've been excited for ages! :P)

A:Error code 0x8007045D when doing fresh install

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Boot into BIOS setup, reset to defaults, save changes. If an EFI BIOS you'll need to decide if you want UEFI BIOS vs. Legacy BIOS. If UEFI follow these special steps for Install, otherwise enable Legacy BIOS or Compatibility Support Module to proceed with normal install:

Set DVD drive first to boot, HD second, set SATA controller to AHCI, Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into Windows 7 installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here. I would use a fresh ISO written with tool in Step 2 as yours is in question.

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10, or enter System Recovery Options to open a Command Box, type:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
ACTIVE
EXIT
EXIT

Next click Install Now, then Custom install to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

In addition read over these steps to understand the tools and methods which work best to get and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps are the same for retail.

After install you can adjust partition size or Create new partitions for data, etc. in Disk Mgmt. You are creating the partition here for the purpose of wiping the HD and marking Active which overcomes certain install failu... Read more

I'm beating my head against the wall on this one.

Ok so after years of running XP, I finally got an external HDD to back all my crap on and Windows 7 Ultimate. I backed up all my stuff, ran the win7 DVD through start up, reformated my hard drive, installed windows 7.

It installed fine, rebooted a couple of times through the install, finishes, and logs me to the desktop. Its all working fine, I can use the net etc. I shut it down to restart it, and wtf it doesn't start back up. It gets to the bios window where it decides to start off the dvd or hdd, just prior to where it should normally change to the 'windows is loading' screen, and just sits there, blinking and doing nothing.

I've done three installs, I took out the hard drive, reformated it with another computer, made sure it had a ntfs file system, everything, it's working fine. But every single time I install windows 7, It logs me into the desktop for the first time, I can do everything fine, but then if I Shutdown or restart, it hangs on the screen prior to windows loading. I can't even choose a boot option.

I've seen some ideas on other forums, pulling the power out, resetting the bios/cmos, changing boot sequence, unplugging all non-essential hardware.. nothing. It's like as soon as I install windows 7 my hard drive isn't there anymore.

Please help! This is driving me crazy.

I have been able to download the updates with WSUS, however, I am stuck on 'Listing IDs of missing updates'.
Malwarebytes and Spybot are the only programs on here at this time that are even close to seeing something viral. Cryptoprevent was not causing a problem to my knowledge.

I stopped giving windows and WSUS time after 14 hours of no discernible improvement. I even made the automated ISO and tried installing from there.
The Internet works with everything else that's stock in Windows. I updated to IE 11. Lenovo needed .NET framework 4.0 and their driver updater worked great.

I don't have the original Lenovo Discs. They think I am going to buy them again. M$, of course, won't give me a clean ISO due to OEM status. I found the ISO another way.

Is there a specific KB that can update Windows Update?

There are essentially 3 updates needed for a clean install of windows that will get you updated through April of 2016

KB3020369 & KB3125574 & KB3172605 all can be downloaded from the catalog using internet explorer
Microsoft Update Catalog

https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/...ows-7-and-8-1/
When manually installing updates you need to switch your update settings to Never check for updates and restart the machine first.

After restart you will need to ensure the built in windows update service is stopped and set to manual first too or it will conflict with the stand alone installer.

Afterwards reset the windows updates service to what it was before and update settings to your preference and check for updates
Should be only 50 or so updates left to install.

Or you can get all three updates off my OneDrive

Tried msconfig disabling all non-Windows components, no change.
Not running any sort of secure boot (desktop machine), not running Bitlocker.

As admin:
ran DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /RestoreHealth
ran sfc /scannow (no issues detected). CBSlog.txt file here: Microsoft services

Research on 800F0922 says that if might be caused by the GPT/EFI partition being full. It is 100MB and only 30% used and there are no disk full errors in my CBS. The MSR is 128MB (the disk is GPT). So I don't think this is the issue. Also, I do not have a Cisco VPN as that is said to be another cause of 800F0922.

Does anyone know how I might solve this?

Problem:

XP fails to start in any mode. XP has been reloaded from an image with no change in situation. (I was reimaging the machines anyway.) I have not yet had a successful boot since reimaging, and hence XP (mini)setup has not completed (the image was prepared using sysprep to allow it to be rolled out to multiple machines. These machines are connected to an 2003 AD Domain). Currently I'm running memtest86+ from Knoppix. Knoppix booted with only one error about not passing in proper display information. (Perhaps the graphics card is going?). The last file loaded in a safe mode bootup is mup.sys, which leads me further to believe that it's a hardware problem (and that's backed up by Google).

I've opened it up, cleaned it out with a little (make that a lot) of compressed air. Boy, was it dusty. I forgot to mention, this computer is at a high school, if you want an idea of what the users are like . It's a magnet/gifted/selective enrollment (for you Chicago people) high school though.

Details:

Machine: Dell Optiplex 260 Series
OS: Windows XP SP 2
Network Environment: 10/100/1000 (although link is 10/100) Ethernet (Realtek 57xx family). Connected to 2k3 AD Domain (around 800 computers in total on domain.)

Any suggestions on things to try? I didn't see anything obviously wrong on the motherboard: that is, no exploded capicitors, disconnected cables, missing RAM, etc. I'm running memtest now, however we won't know the results of that ... Read more

Hello all,

My computer recently caught a virus and I had to reformat my computer. I have reformatted this machine before without a single problem.

First problems appeared after the initial re-format and install. Installing various games and drivers would wind up alerting me that various dll files were missing. After following a 10? step guide to troubleshoot these errors nothing worked and the final step was to conduct another fresh install of windows.

I was also considering that maybe my hard drive was going bad so I did a fresh install on my second hard drive and the same problems occurred.

I did however, manage to get one of the installs to remain relatively stable, but it still has the same problems.

And finally, I purchased a brand new SSD (samsung 830 series) and did a new fresh install to it. Everything seemed to go fine until I began running windows updates (after getting Security essentials installed and my video drivers). Windows updates got hung up on the on screen in application install screen in the middle of approximately 130 updates. I then clicked the stop installation button and nothing happened. The updates screen would not change. I left it alone for awhile and came back. Still nothing. I then told the computer to restart. It then proceeded to hang on the shutdown screen. (i let this remain overnight hoping it would shut down) It did not. I was forced to hard reset the system and now the same issue is happening after installing microsofts fix it app... Read more

Work through these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7

If you didn't follow the Best Practices for Clean Reinstall after resetting BIOS to defaults, setting SATA controller to AHCI, unplugging all other HD's and peripherals.

Drivers are handled differently in Win7 than before so make sure to read and understand that part. If you changed out any from what Win7 wants then I would do it over. If you're running with the installer chipset then you can try the one from the Support Downloads webpage for your model PC or mobo.

As you work through the Troubleshooting steps post back results as there may be other steps suggested.

Hi,

On Windows 8. 1, I had no issues with this speaker. It's a JBL Charge. After upgrading to 10 it worked fine until a reboot when it failed to connect (it pairs, but won't connect, and the speaker doesn't appear as an audio-out option in Sound settings).

The Bluetooth wizard in PC Settings says "Driver error" next to the speaker icon.

Poking around in device manager, I see this error:

"This device cannot start. (Code 10)
{Conflicting Address Range}
The specified address range conflicts with the address space."

The only references I find to this error online are for different (and quite old) version of windows, and seem unrelated to Bluetooth.

I can't even look at the "resources" tab for help because it appears to have vanished in Windows 10!

Is anyone else experiencing this?

My computer was suffering from random bsods and viruses before. I atributed the bsods to viruses, but after reinstalling windows 7, I found that the bsods still happened. It seems to happen when installing drivers, or running prime95. Booting into safe mode allows me to pretty much do anything.

When crashing, it does a slow crash, where I can move the mouse around, but the startbar and any other programs dont respond. Explorer then crashes, followed shortly by a bluescreen.

Welcome
Sounds like a driver, take driver verifier test
Driver Verifier
I'd suggest that you first backup your data and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Windows 7 Startup Repair feature).

In Windows 7 you can make a Startup Repair disk by going to Start....All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc - with Windows Vista you'll have to use your installation disk or the "Repair your computer" option at the top of the Safe Mode menu .

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it... Read more

Hi All,

I'm hoping someone will be able to help!

I believe I have a genuine copy of Windows 7 home premium as I've been using it without problems for the last year. I've recently installed a new gigabyte motherboard and i5 processor so decided to do a clean install of windows 7 using my original disk. It all installed okay but after a few days windows 7 expired and every time I've tried to activate by typing or phoning with my original product key I have been unsuccessful. It says a problem occurred when windows tried to activate, Error Code 0x80072F8F.

I've also tried ligit check and got the following report using the diagnostic tool.

Thanks in Advance

For about the past two months Windows update has failed to run. If I try to run it manually it just sits there spinning its wheels. It does not appear to end or produce an error code.
I have seen the message "could not check for updates automatically"
I've been to the MS site and downloaded both
MicrosoftFixit.wu.RNP.6329995410378136.2.1.Run.exe
and
WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab
and the third party
Repair-tool.exe by ParetolLogic
but none of these fix the problem.
Today I have run SURT as instructed and the output from sfc /scannow is attached.
Update is still refusing to do anything.

Hi there I'm new here

Recently my system had been making sounds that were new to me, like intermittent beeping which would go away if I turned the CPU fan speed up. A few days ago I turned my pc on and when XP Pro loaded the desktop it completely froze after about 5-10 seconds, no mouse response or anything.

I decided to reinstall XP. I set my CD ROM to boot first so I could run the install from the XP CD, was able to format my hard drive, and select the partition on which I wanted to install XP. I get to the part after you press F8 to agree to the EULA license, and then it says "copying files", but it always freezes here. Sometimes it get's to 6% but always freezes!

I'm pretty sure the CDROM isn't to blame, I have tried it with two different ones. The XP install disc isn't scratched at all. I've changed the cables running from the drives to the motherboard and checked the RAM chips are seated properly. The problem still persists, can anyone help me out here? I'm really frustrated trying to decipher what is wrong with the system, I even bought a new HD but that wasn't the problem either.

Thanks for your help in advance

My machine hasn't been able to update for a few weeks. Windows Update opens, but attempting to download "Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2585542)" fails with error code 80073712. There was a second update of the same sort that was also not working before; I eventually managed to get that update to complete by running Fixit in aggressive mode. Nothing I've done has helped with the remaining failure, though.

Let me know what other information I should provide. Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, Windows can not perform updates anymore: it immediately issues an error code 800B0100.
After running several tools from Microsoft the problem still exists.
So now I turn to the real experts and hope you guys can help me.
I have run the tooling suggested on your forum and attached the CBS files.
Now I hope you can help me.

Thanks in advance,

Hi,

All Windows automatic updates have been failing since 2015-11-12. The last successful update was the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 - November 2015 (KB890830) on 11/12/2015 03:17. The first failed update since then was Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3100213) on 11/13/2015 20:25.

Manual installation of the pending updates does not work. Reboot does not install the pending updates either. Another symptom was that Windows was no longer detecting my third party Anti-Virus software. I removed and reinstalled the software thinking it might be related and Windows started detecting the Anti-Virus software again but I can no longer access the computers from other computers on my home network. For now let's focus on the Windows problem which may be hardware failure induced--hardware crash/power cycle without a Shutdown.

Hello experts,

I have ASUS Essentio mini-pc with Windows Vista Home Premium x64 installed.
I did run virus checker, spy checker, several registry cleaners.
I spent a week on it , as well Microsoft support logged in for an hour.
I did run the batch file re-registering DLL's.
The original error 80070424 is gone since I run the "ErrorFix" utility.

My recovery CD form the manufacturer is only to wipe out all what I have installed and reload the "vanilla" system. Windows repair option is not available.
This is for me out of question, to many programs are installed on my system.

Here is the problem I think:
Windows installer is missing,
Windows Installer 4.5 Redistributable installation fails. error code 1603
"Windows update" does not work, error code: 80040154

Questions
1. Is there any way to restore the Windows Installer files ?
2. Upgrading to Windows Vista Ultimate version will fix the missing files ?

Any other suggestions?

TIA
Frank

Ok, I've been researching solutions for issues with windows 7 backup for weeks now and have had no luck. My VSS service is running fine, and everything was backing up fine til a short while ago, and has been failing since. I have been backing up to a network share on my file server. My roommate has been having the same issue for some time now, however he was attempting to do this with an external hard drive. Same error of 0x8100019. I've tried everything I can think of and I've had no leads thus far. Any pointers on this would be helpful.

Same problem, it actually backed up the first time I used the program that is on WIN7. Now it gives me the blue screen. I have deleted the file it makes and start over, same thing happens. I have tried to change the drive from basic to dynamic it won't allow me, reason is I have a laptop. But I am more confused since it worked the FIRST time and now it's not allowing me to finish! It's actually frustrating cause I have already lost everything on my hard drive before and really don't want it to happen again. I wish I had the answer but I'm still searching.

I've been through several of the steps mentioned on these and other forums, including:

None of these have revealed any issues or resolved the problem.

Maybe the servers are down.

A:Windows Updates fails Error Code :WindowsUpdate_8007065

Hi shyamsasinran,

This is interesting, for normal updates this code suggests that another install is in progress (I not sure if Windows Defender is the same). This error can also occur if a dll is loaded that it needs to access, or if the downloaded file is corrupt.
Some thoughts
- If the update is already downloaded, try to install it in safe mode.
- Try to download the latest WD definitions and install manually, get them from the Microsoft Malware Protection Center

Good Luck

The last Windows Update I was able to successfully download was on March 16.  Since then, it fails almost immediately with an error code of 8024402C.  Underneath that it says that the last update date was Never.  I tried just running one tiny 300KB update with the same results.

At that time I tried to scan my Dell e6410 with Microsoft Security Essentials, but it wouldn't update either.  I finally was able to manually download updates.

Neither MSE nor MalwareBytes can find anything wrong.
Chkdsk completed normally.
System File Checker completed OK.
The links to GMER from this forum wouldn't load the page.
The C:\ drive is only 1% fragmented, which in my mind doesn't justify the risk of running a defrag.
And this is the weirdest part:  When I attempt to restart the Windows Defender service, it stops itself.

There's no obvious problems (apart from your errorcode) in any of the data posted.

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data
If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)
Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file.

Filling out System Specs would save asking all about the external drive model, your system HD etc..

Some externals spin down to save energy. Some can be set to spin up and stay up. I don't know what you have for HW.

Hello folk, hoping someone can point us to a resolution here.
We did a fresh install of Windows Seven on our quite old desktop, specs below, and all seemed to go quite well until we got to updating. We got SP1 on, though it took longer than it ought and IIRC we did have a couple of failed installs and invoked a Microsoft Fixit. Couldn't say whether it worked or not, but we got some more updates on after that. We then wanted to put an HP printer driver on, and THAT wanted .NET, and offered to put that on, which it did - version 4.5. After that we started getting configuration difficulties with windows updates. Looking down the failed list we saw .NET 3 there and wondered if that was right. The machine keeps downloading and installing different numbers of updates, but we never get past configuration, so it rolls back. Can you help please? We are reasonably computer savvy, but we do not know what to do or where to look for a solution.
Event viewer defines one of the many many failures as CbsPackageServicingFailure2, and 0x800705b4 and KB3046269 are mentioned as well. Can you help please?

This started happening over a week ago. I did try a repair using the Windows 7 Ultimate-64 bit DVD but the problem remains. When the option to search for updates is pressed a message comes up "Windows could not search for new updates" Error Code 800F080D.
Any help will be most appreciated.

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Hello,
I have the version of IE 11 kb2841134. (opened the browser)
When I try to reinstall it by looking in view updates - it was not there.

My windows update - the IE 11 keeps failing, giving me an error of 9C48.
I've used a Windows Update Diagnostic.
I have an error of 70005, 70002 (when installing IE11 as well), 70057 (during the diagnostic). I've tried the toolkit from windows.

I'm not sure which CBS file it is.
The first CBS file. This is the second CBS file.

Here is the Windowslog file.

I've also included this which was in the log file.

I've seen several entries regarding sp1 instalation errors, but none with this one: falat error c0000034 applying update operation

Machine is x64 (intel core i7), with 8gb mem

tried installing sp1 via windows update. there were three patches to install, one of them, sp1

did the two first, before, and then tried sp1.

It failed while rebooting (not remember the code, sorry), but i was able to do a system restore to pre-sp1.

them, got the full SP1 media from msdn, and did install it in offilne mode. Setup looked faster (of course?) and in reboot, this fatal error c0000034 appeared. But this time, no option for system restore.

if i try to enter in safe mode, i get stuck on driver loading (last loaded is classpnp.sys)

if i try to run, as seen in other threads, the sfc tool, i get a "there is a system repair pending which requires a boot to complete..." Of course, reboot just gets me to the 34 error.

As i cannot get to Windows, no InPlace setup is available...

So, i read about DISM could be used as a before-last resourt... How? I'm not sure what this error is, so i'm a bit lost about getting something out of DISM to correct it.
Any help?

thiswoot,
Thank you for posting and wanting to help other users, but unfortunately, I had to delete your post. We have found that the steps in this post while allowing you to recover from the non-bootable state, leaves the machine in an unserviceable state, with SP1
partially installed.  There is not a known way to recover a machine from this state at this time, so we recommend that people follow the steps in the KB article which allow you recover the system with Windows SP1 installed successfully. So as not to leave
customers in state which is not serviceable, your post was removed.

KB article with steps to resolve the issue:
975484  Your computer may freeze or restart to a black screen that has a "0xc0000034" error message after you install Windows 7 Service Pack 1

We also have a blog post on the issue with more details of why the deleted steps should not be attempted:

Hi there,

I have a problem with Windows Update - it continually fails to install update KB2966583 (which is about 2.5MB) and brings up error code 800736B3. I have tried the update troubleshooter for Windows, the update readiness tool and hotfix.

Can anyone help me with this? Thanks in advance.

Hello TGCid and welcome to the forums

Note: To others reading this thread, would you mind not posting please? I'm training Parman to deal with Windows Update errors and have been looking for a thread for him to practice on; this is perfect.

@TGCid, please don't worry about someone less experienced helping you out, I have solved hundreds of these threads in the past and will assess his fix prior to him posting it If he is busy, then I will help you instead.

Thanks!

Tom

I receive a similar error again on our HP Pavilion Notebooks with AMD CPU when updating to Windows 10 Creator update as last time when updating to Windows 10. Our office has a few of the 17-G133cl notebook computers and all of them display the same error message: We couldn't install Windows 10 - 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 - The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation. Which is similar to the error displayed during the initial Windows 10 update except that the error shown was 0x1900101 - 0x20000. Back then a BIOS update that became available that fixed the issue. We check for a new BIOS, but all notebooks have the latest BIOS already installed v. F.41 from 9/19/2016. All other systems including other none HP AMD computers upgraded just fine. Any ideas what could cause this issue with that type of system?
