Q: Thinkcentre M93P - Keeps loosing Hard Drive after ...

Hey, So i have 28 stores and they are all using the Thinkcentre M93P ( i3) small form factor desktops. ( they are running a SQL DB ) They are all plugged into the battery backup of brand new APC 725 UPS's. My issues is sometimes when the store loose's power, the PC powers back up but then says no OS found. And then a disk read error occured. When they ship me the PC, I hear a faint BEEP, BEEP and I have determined it's the hard drive. Do anyone else have this issue, as of right now I find these units not very tolerable to power loss and I have to keep replacing the drives in the PC's. anyone have any ideas on how i can possibley prevent this from happening? I looked in the newest BIOS update and I don't see anything in there refrencing the issue im having. ( i believe this is 4 possibly 5 now that i'm after replacing the hard drive in ) ThanksMark

Preferred Solution: Thinkcentre M93P - Keeps loosing Hard Drive after ...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Are the Thinkcentres connected to the UPS via the USB cable and running 'PowerChute' s/w?    They should, after a power remaining threshold is reached, shutdown without actual power loss, and damage to the PC.

Hello everyone, I've seen a few threads about similar issues, but here goes: I recently purchased a Thinkcentre m93p from the Lenovo Outlet for a very good price. I used to work with desktops and graphics cards but had switched to laptops for maybe 10 years or so. It seems that the landscape has changed quite a bit with manufacturers whitelisting parts and putting in proprietary power supplies and other complete nonsense.  I am hoping to do a few things with my new desktop in particular: install an SSD and more memory, upgrade the power supply, and upgrade the graphics card. I am comfortable installing the memory and I think I can figure out the SSD. My questions really have to do with the power supply and graphics card. I'd like to install an ATX power supply because I can't seem to find any TFX power supplies that have sufficient wattage and a pci-e 6-pin connector. I know some others have done this, and that it requires a 24-pin to 14-pin connector (which I've ordered). Does the ATX supply fit in the case? Or does it require modification? Or does it need to sit outside the case? As for graphics cards, I've ordered this one: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8905320 I think it can run off the 280-watt power supply included, but now I'm concerned that it might be too big for the tower case and/or not on Lenovo's whitelist. Does anyone have any thoughts about this? Is there a way to get around th... Read more

A:Thinkcentre M93p Upgrades

I run a Gigabyte 750 Ti in my M91p tower with an upgraded ATX power supply (which fits in the case provided they aren't too long, and works with the converter [M92 and later] - best to get a semi-modular supply as there's limited room in the case for unused cables.)   The Gigabyte looks quite a bit shorter than the one you ordered, check the specs.
I also added the front fan (easy to do on the M93 - download and refer to the Hardware Maintenance manual - a standard 92mm fan with rubber mounts will work) and ventilated PCI slot covers at the back to help dissipate heat from the graphics card. Check the readme file for the Nvidia driver on the Lenovo website for this system for the list of supported cards.   And no, there isn't a way around the white list, otherwise it wouldn't be a white list.

Hello, I have a  M93p Thinkcentre that I need to upgrade the PSU for a video adapter, haven't been able to decide what the M93p needs and what will fit. I don't want to order a PSU and not have it fit the M93p Mini Tower case. I've been looking at various Seasonic PSUs as well as a few other brands.  The currently installed PSU is a PS-4281-2 280W Liteon with dimensions approx. a little under ~6 inches tall x very close to 5.5 inches wide x ~3.5 inches deep. The fan is pointing outwards from the rear the the case. Many of the PSUs have the fan on the interior from side of the of the PSU. So I'm not certain if it makes a difference whether the PSU is pushing or pulling the air from the case which has one fan but will eventually have two fans plus the cpu and psu fan. The K4000 video card uses a pci-e 6-pin (3+3) plug for PSU power. Also the motherboard uses a 14-pin connector for power from the PSU along 3 x 4-pin power connectors. It appears the PSU first supplies 2 x 4-pin sata pwr connections to the mother board then the cable extend over to power  the sata drives. I'm uncertain what the 3rd 4-pin connection to the mb is used for. I've come across  various PSU's with different dimensions and almost purchased one but am wondering if their too large and the maximum size PSU the M93p is able to accommodate.  I've found several PSUs, some from eBay others from online stores. most are new or pulled from new PC's that wer... Hello! I've got a M93p Desktop (ThinkCentre) with a LGA1150 socket and no CPU. Since for me, it made sense that any LGA1150 CPU could work, I purchased a Intel I3-4170, installed it, but there is no video, no beep, nothing, just the fans and hdd works. For my surprise, according to the specs, only two (?) cpus are compatible: one I5 and the other an I7. It is of no use to mention the exact cpu models. I have three questions, I hope someone that was in my situation could help: 1. What is the technical reason why a cpu with the same socket type won't work?2. Besides removing battery, RAM and disk drives, is there anything else I could try?3. Can i just buy ANY motherboard compatible with the I3-4170 and put it in the M93p? Hoping that the RAM modules and PSU are 100% compatible with any component. Thanks for your help!!!!

Hi we use with great pleasure the Lenovo m93p as server in a our environment. They would like a charm. recently we faced a situtation and e wanted the servers to turn on at a specific time.  We went into BIOS and set the time to turn on the PVC.  We expected that the PC could be turned on manually. It will not turn on at all.  We took off the CMOS battery to see if it would reset the BIOS settings: Nothing ! The the PC will not turn on... Also no Lenovo screen , nothing  We must also say that we increased the video memory to 1024 MB AND set up the start time. These settings were saved since then the PC would not turn on.... Would appreciate anything that could help in having the pC turn on or resetting the BIOS to default ... Thanks in advance We need to perform somthing alittle more complex .. Will ask after solving this pesky problem Zeprez

A:Lenovo Thinkcentre m93p Tiny won't turn on

I had exactly this problem. After replacing the hard drive, the M93p Tiny would not power on when the power button was pressed. No LED came on and the fan did not spin up. I tried all sorts of things but nothing worked. Finally I took out the CMOS battery for a while and then put it back in again. That did the trick and the computer started. Strangely enough, the BIOS was NOT reset, my custom settings and BIOS password were preserved (!). The computer now works normally again... Jiri.

Hello, I'm thinking of upgrading a M93p I recently picked and still waiting for delivery. It comes with a i7-4770 3.4GHZ cpu, 16GB RAM,  500 HDD and Windows 10 installed. The video adapter installed is a nvidia fx1700, the seller said he thought the memory for the video adapter is 1GB however all the nvidia fx1700s I've seen only have 500MB. I need to edit large image and video files taken with a Nikon DSLR and wondering if 500MB of video and an older video card such as the nvidia fx1700 is going to be enough to edit fairly large image and video files.  In the past I haven't normally played games only flight similator such those produced by Lockheed and Boeing. I recently started looking at various video cards, such as the NVidia GTX 1050, Radeon HD 7670, nVIDIA GeForce GT730, etc. however specifications shows min system PSU requirement is 300 watts. Some are PCI-E 2.0 x16 while others are PCI-E 3.0 x16 M93p PSU specifications    240W 92plus Single output    240W 85plus Single output To upgrade to many of these video adapters designed for gaming would require a PSU upgrade as well

I'm looking into upgrading my machine with a dedicated GPU, and would like to take the AMD route for Linux compatibility. I've read the compilation post and know about the BIOS whitelist, but the information on which AMD cards are supported exactly is sparse. There seem to be some reports of the RX460 working on a ThinkCentre M82, but I wasn't able to find any more details about that. Has anyone here had the chance to give these recent AMD cards a try, yet? Specifically the RX4xx and RX5xx series? Thanks a lot in advance.

I have a ThinkCentre M93P with a Nvidia NVS 315 video card intalled and it works fine when I get to the Windows 10 login screen but it does not show the BIOS screen during the initial startup. It only seems to work if I remove the video card and use the built-in video. It currently have it set up to auto-select which video graphics to use. Is this expected behavior? Shouldnt I be able to view BIOS regardless of whether I am using built-in video?

Hi everyone. I am in the process of deploying a new sccm environment with W10, we have a bunch of different Lenovo clients but this model is the only one that is causing me issues. The problem is the Lenovo Application Interface driver wich refuses to work, the key here is that we are using Microsoft Baseline Security, wich denies drivers that are not WHQL signed to be used. I have tried both the and driver for the Application Interface, but both returns Code 39 and does not work. If i deactivate MS Baseline Security both drivers work, but i don't have that option on the environment. I have tried importing them in SCCM and run the extracted exe as a package, with no result. In short, does a WHQL driver exist for this interface?

I'm considering, mostly just for the fun of it, upgrading the processor in my M93p Tiny desktop. According to CPU World, the socket type is a Socket 1150 / Socket LGA1150 / Socket H3. My M93p currently has a Intel Core i5-4570T (http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Core_i5/Intel-Core%20i5-4570T.html), dual-core 2.9 GHz. I would like to put a quad-core processor in it, but I am concerned with the potential for increased power consumption and thermal load.
I am looking at the following options for upgrading it:
i5-4690K (http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Core_i5/Intel-Core%20i5-4690K.html)
i5-4570S (http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Core_i5/Intel-Core%20i5-4570S.html)
i7-4785T (http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Core_i7/Intel-Core%20i7-4785T.html)
i7-4790K (http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Core_i7/Intel-Core%20i7-4790K.html)
As I said, my major concern is increased power consumption and thermal load. The Thermal Design Power (TDP) of my current processor is 35 watt. The TDP of the processors I am looking at upgrading to range from 35 watts (the lower powered i7-4785T, not my first choice) to 88 watts. If I go with a TDP of 65 watts or 88 watts, is my heat sink going to be able to handle the thermal load? And is the power supply going to be able to handle the added power consumption. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Just something to consider, I may be way off though, you might have to install any software that came with your system. I'm no pro, but I know that when I replaced my wifes HD back in January, it came with software to install on the system. Maybe it's because her system ran XP, maybe it was some other issue, but for us, installing this software was not necessary (As I recall, it was software that would be installed on the BIOS, but that was months ago, and it was only my second HD install). Anyway, this probably won't help, but it might be something to think about.

Best of luck.

I finally saw this start happening the other day when I added a program to my computer. A:Hard Drive Loosing Space.

Hello ph0t0bug and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I don't see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean.A 6GB hard drive is not very much for running the XP OS on. My guess is that it could be the swap file that is growing in size and using up available disk space. With even a modest amount of apllications installed there will not be much available space for running the system. The HijackThis forum deals exclusively with virus and malware issues. HijackThis does not have the capability to analyze performance, hardware or application issues. For these types of issues I would suggest posting to the Windows XP Home and Professional forum. The techs in that forum specialize in matters pertaining to the operating system, performance and applications. Let them know that you have been to this forum and that no malware was found. When posting to any other forum, do not post a HijackThis log or the post will simply be moved back to this forum for infection analysis. That is what HijackThis is used for and that is what we specialize in here in this forum. Also, when posting in any other forum for assistance, give as much detail as possible regarding any issues that are occurring. The more information they have, the better the techs can analyze the issue and make any recommendations for resolving it.Cheers.OT

I was previously using the hard drive for my os but I just got an ssd.

the problem is that I do not need the os on my hdd anymore and I want to remove the windows 7 files to make some space.

I cannot reformat the hdd as I store my files on it (on the root directory: videos, torrents, installers, etc...)

I also can't transfer the files to my ssd as the files are way too big and it wont fit.

I do not have any external drive

so how do I remove it?

A:how do i remove Windows 7 on my hard drive without loosing my files?

1. Create a partition in the free space

2. Move the files you want to keep to that new partition
If all required files have been moved Goto 3. else Goto 4.
3. Delete the windows partition and extend the storage partition you just created to fill the whole drive.
4. If the files do not all fit in one go move as many over as you can, resize the partitions again in favour of the storage partition untill all you keepers are on the the new partition.
5. Repeat untill you are ready for step 3.

You will need a partition manager compatible with windows7.

Good luck!

Dear colleaguesI have obtained one of these tower systems and proceeded to open it up and the first thing I did was to remove the 160gb SATA hard drive .Foolishly I then took out the caddy (or, as I think it is called the Chassis) in which the hard drive was contained. The problem is that I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the chassis back in place. The fan that is over the processer just seems to get in the way. It came out but it won't go back. I wonder if anyone can advise what is the procedure to get it in. Do I have to remove the fan first, or do I have to remove the PSU.I know this is a simple problem but I an not an expert if anyone can advise I will be gratefulThanks, Ian

Hi all, I am in need of installing a second disk drive for my ThinkCentre E53 10AS. I read the manual, which has instructions on replacing the disk drive - it does mention that in order to install a second disk drive, to follow these same instructions! Of course, it would not be an identical process. For example, there are 3 SATA plugs on the mother board, SATA1, SATA2 (both red), and SATA3 (yellow). SATA1 is plugged into the HDD.
There is a box connected to the power button, that has two buttons on the back. SATA power and SATA data. The SATA power is connected to the HDD and the motherboard via a 4-wire cable. The SATA data is connected to the HDD via a ribbon SATA cable.
So, if I want to install a second HDD, do I use a SATA plug to connect it to the yellow SATA 3 plug?
Does the fact that the plug is yellow mean anything?
And finally, I have looked everywhere, but cannot figure out what the max HDD capacity would be for a secondary drive? I bought a WD Red 3TB. Hopeful it works?
Any advice is greatly appreciated!

A:ThinkCentre (E53): need to install as secondary hard disk drive

According to the hardware maintenance manual for the E73, the two motherboard SATA connectors (which you say are red) are SATA3 which supports 6GB/s.  The third one (which you say is yellow) is SATA2 which supports 3GB/s.
Sinc you've bought a SATA3 drive, you should use the second red SATA3 connector to get maximum performance out of it.  Be sure you use a SATA3 data cable and not a SATA2 data cable, as that's part of the requirement to get SATA3 performance.
As far as drive capacity goes, there's no hardware limit pertaining to your E73.  However there IS a consideration depending on the fact that your drive is larger than 2TB.  In order for a new drive to be usable, it must be "partitioned" and "formatted with a file system".  And in order to use a drive larger than 2TB the partitioning technique must be GPT, and not MBR.
You can partition the new drive to have one or more partitions, but if you mistakenly use MBR as the partitioning technique only 2TB of the drive will be visible and usable for partitions.  And there will be a maximum of four "primary" partitions (or a maximum of three "primary" partitions and any number of "logical" partitions).  The extra 1TB of your new 3TB drive will be invisible and unusable.  And the largest MBR partition is also limited to 2TB.
In contrast, if you partition the drive using GPT (which is the modern partitioning method that is recommended), this method supports drives... Read more

Having a hard time finding a part number for the secondary hard drive cage.  This would be the cage that is L-shaped and attaches to the base of the tower.  For now I was able to put the 2nd hard drive in the card reader bay, but would prefer to mount as designed as I'm concerned with the heat associated with one hard drive mounted directly about the other.thanksjoe

I have an older Lenovo all-in-one that's reaching the end of it's tolerable life. It's slow, limited upgrades, only supports one small hard drive. But I love the all-in-one form factor. I see the newer iteration ThinkCentre M910z supports SSD for the primary (horrah!) and includes a second 2.5" hard drive bay. What I can't find is what the largest supported storage size is. Can it support a 4TB-5TB drive like the Seagate BarraCuda ST4000 and ST4000? My goal is to have a SSD for OS and apps, big 2nd drive for archiving large video as opposed to having to have an external USB drive perpetually tethered like with my current all-in-one.

A:ThinkCentre Tiny: add 2nd HDD, increase size of external HDD, 500GB Hard Drive Adapter (0A65638)

The Lenovo ThinkCentre Tiny 500GB Hard Drive Adapter Kit  (about 100  bucks) can only be used in the the ThinkCentre Tiny Storage Unit Kit which is an external drive enclosure that must be purchased separately (about 40 bucks) that will accept a CD/DVD drive, or a hard drive caddy ( the Lenovo ThinkCentre Tiny 500GB Hard Drive Adapter Kit).    I would imagine you could replace the 500G  2.5 inch SATA drive that comes with the Adapter kit/caddy for a larger drive, but if you goal is to just add an external HD, It would probably be easier (and cheaper) to just buy an external USB hard drive like this one. WD - My Passport 2TB External USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive  ($79.99 for 2TB up to 119.99 for 4TB)http://www.bestbuy.com/site/wd-my-passport-2tb-external-usb-3-0-portable-hard-drive-black/5605528.p?... Cheers,

Hi all.

I have the following.

Asus P9X79 MB (Manual here http:// )

it has two SATA 3 ports, I have my C (system) SSD in one and my D (program) SSD in the other

It has 4 SATA 2 ports, I have another older SSD in one (couple of mmos on it), my DVD drive in the other, and the other two taken by a SATA expansion bracket (rarely used, but handy when needed)

I have my E drive, a 2TB SATA 3 disk containing my music software and my documents etc
I have my F drive, a 2TB SATA 3 disk containing my videos and numerous other misc stuff.

Both of these are plugged into:

Highpoint Rocket 620 (R620) 2 channel Internal PCI-e v2 x1 to SATA 6Gb/s non-RAID controller card (Marvel 88Se91xx Adapter)

A few weeks ago I used my cases front USB to copy my music from my F drive, and my F drive had disappeared

Usually when I boot the PC, the first thing I get is the Highpoint Bios telling me it's found my two HDDs, but after this, it was only showing one.

To get my F drive back, I have to shut down and pull the power

This happened a few times, sometimes it happened was soon as I use the front case USB, sometimes it would happen an hour or so later (always F drive, never E)

I upgraded my USB 3 drivers from Asus a few days ago and updating these (without plugging anything in) , also caused my F drive to instantly disappear..

So I had a play around.

The cases USB port was plugged into the MB USB 7/8 (USB 2) and I moved this to MB USB 13/14 (also USB 2)

The Highpoint card was plugged in... Read more

About two weeks ago I started my pc and I noticed that the appearance of my desktop had changed. The main thing that I noticed was that the color of the bar across the bottom of the screen was a different color. I went into the ?control panel? and started to change the ?appearance? back to what I had been using (I wasn?t really sure what the setting where before so I had to play around what different settings to get it back to MY NORMAL.) I couldn?t seem to get it changed back to what I was used to having so I did a ?restore? and that seemed to do the job. However, the next time that I started my pc I was back to the same problem. At that point I just changed what I could in the control panel (display) and went about my business with working on the pc. Then I started to notice that there were OTHER problems. It looked as though my SETTINGS in WORD and OUTLOOK had changed as well as the appearance of my desk top. So I did another ?restore? to an earlier date---NO CHANGE?I could not get my old settings back even though I used an earlier date.

A few days later I noticed another quirk?I left the computer on over night (which I normally do not do) and in the morning my ?screen saver? changed from ?my pictures slide show? to ?windows XP? (default??) ALSO?my desktop picture has been changed to a sol... Read more

i have two drives in my system, a 40gig seagate formatted with NTFS with windows etc on it, and a 80gig western digital formatted with FAT32. i have recently lost access to my 80 gig. when i click on the drive letter in windows explorer it asks me if i want to format this drive. i have an older drive (a 30 gig IBM) that had a copy of windows 98 on it, i put it in and booted up windows 98 and it can see the 80 gig drive and all its files etc.

this has led to me to believe that it something in windows xp that it stopping the drive to be accessed, as i know that their are files on the disk and their appears to be nothing wrong with the actual drive itself. so the question is how do i get to see the drive again in windows xp with out the hasstle of re-installing or re-formatting the drive? (i've just installed windows xp on my machine, and it could see the drive no worries, but this problem just seems to have cropped up out of nowhere)

Ive installed al the latest updates as I thought it was these that was caus ing the problem , but after doing a clean install it worked fine for a couple of days then it stoped responding so Im pretty sure its not the updates causing the problem.
Im using an Acer Aspire 5103 64X AMD Turion TL-52

Any suggestions much appreciated

A:Vista Ultimate keeps loosing DVD drive

Try to restart, get into the BIOS, and see whether your drive detected in BIOS?

Also, can I know how many hard drive and cd/dvd drive you have on your computer?

Also, if there is any external devices and any peripherals you updated recently?
