I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

We have this with some users who have certain websites rendering incorrectly because their browser is defaulting to IE7 document mode. The new media department believe this is set to default this way - either by a script, group policy or even in the original
Windows build of PCs. Is there anyway of forcing the document mode centrally to bypass this issue? Thanks

We have a corporate Enterprise with IE11 on Windows 7. We are using Enterprise Mode instead of "open intranet sites in compatibility view" which is now unchecked.

We want sites to open in IE 8 Document Mode instead of the Edge Default which occurs when we uncheck the intranet site compatibility view.
We have the XML and Enterprise Mode Enabled and it is processing BUT the sites are changing from Edge to Document Mode 5 instead of 8?

I have tried ALL the document modes and even IE 8 Emulation and it doesn't matter which one we set, the sites are going to Document Mode 5, with the exception of Livemeeting.com which is opening in IE 8 Document Mode as it should.

Now we can set it manually in IE using the Emulation but it does not last the session.

<rules version="1">
    <domain docMode="8">subdir1.mydomain.com</domain>
    <domain docMode="8">subdir2.mydomain.com</domain>
    <domain docMode="8">subdir3.mydomain.com</domain>
    <domain docMode="8">livemeeting.com</domain>
< /rules>

The sites themselves have a DocType in them.

Since installing the November Windows 10 update (11/17/15) none of my favorites are being stored in the default Edge folder. While in Edge the favorites are available but when I go to the default folder they are not listed. Is there another location they may be being saved or has my default location somehow been changed? This should be the implementation guide to IE11 enterprise mode list.

My main question: in IE11, using F12 you see only document mode (Edge, IE10, 9 ...) but in Enterprise mode list, you can see
other options (screenshot). That's confusing. Why these enterprise modes AND document mode? What is the difference and why does the client only have document mode? Also what means each option and what logic is there to implement, f.e. first enterprise mode
then document mode, then in document mode first IE8 or IE10 ...?

Another question:
I do not have a local xml, when we look for xml, it points to \\domain\netlogon\ienterprisemode.xml
When I check Get-ItemProperty -Path "HKU:$using:SIDOfUser\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\EnterpriseMode").currentversion I do see a version. Where is this version then? Does that make sense?

Please advise.

I for one love a challenge.. ( to a point)
Have a newer computer here running Windows 7 with office 2010.  The user double clicks on an excel spreadsheet and up comes Excel as it should, and up comes the document.  All of the options are grayed out so it is either opening in read only mode or some sort of protected mode, I suspect the latter.
Here is the gotcha; if you move the document on the screen, or minimize it and maximize it, all is normal after that.  Currently scanning for VIRI but I don’t think I will find anything.

Sounds as though the document is not active until selected. But, this is only a guess on my part.

We have a Win7 computer with IE11
In Dev Tools, Document Modes - it has at the top of the list of IE versions - Edge
Now the page I have has compatibility tags with IE=Edge
Thats ok for the code but since Win7 has IE11 should it try and default to a IE11 in the document mode since it does not have Edge or does this mean that Edge and IE11 are all good to run this page
I would say when Edge is showing - the page will show in all IE11 and its standards as well and if I were coding this site I would do the same thing and put Edge as the latest IE version (as below).
However, the point is - this is a Win7 machine and it only has IE11 - therefore why is it even showing Edge in the document mode list and not IE11 (despite having content=Edge in the tags), thanks

When I open MS Word, the default document is a fax
transmittal sheet. How do I change it to open with
a blank document?

A:Default Document

With Word closed, hit Start-Find-Files or folders and type in STARTUP; make sure it's looking in C: and including subfolders.

It will find more than one item, but we're looking for a yellow folder under the Office folders. Open that folder and you've probably got a template in there, like fax.dot or something. Remove it. You basically shouldn't have anything in the Word Startup folder unless you know it's there.

Restart Word to test it.

If that doesn't work or there's nothing in there, close Word, hit Start-Find-Files or folders and type in normal.dot and rename it to abnormal.dot and relaunch Word.

That should do it, but let me know!

Can any one advise me how I can set Microsoft EDGE that is in Windows 10 to by default download to D:\Downloads?

A:How can I set EDGE to by default download to D:\Downloads

I do not use Edge, but here is one suggested method (it dates from Aug 2015, but I presume the steps are still valid):

The download folder can be changed in File Explorer, the former Windows Explorer, directly.

Open File Explorer by clicking on the folder icon in the Windows Taskbar, or with the shortcut Windows-e.Locate the Download folder on the left side, right-click on it and select properties from the context menu.Switch to the location tab in the Downloads properties. There you find the current location listed. If you want to set a new folder without moving existing files, simply enter the new path, e.g. d:\downloads and hit apply afterwards. If you want all existing files to be moved, click on move instead, pick a new folder location, and select yes when the move folder prompt appears.Microsoft Edge will use the new folder for all downloads from that moment on.

A:Edge Resets to default settings

Hello and welcome

This is a common problem it seems although I have never had the defaults change or favourites disappear for Edge since I have been using it. My theory, but I have not yet proved it, is that it depends on whether you login with a Microsoft account or not. I have always used a Microsoft account for login and I find that all my defaults seem to be kept from one update to the next, immediately after a major update the favourites may not show but once the account has properly synced they are all back again.

One of the updates today set MS Edge as the default app for PDF files. I have Acrobat installed and after the update and reboot, Acrobat asked if if I wanted it to be the default program. I didn't realize it had changed. So when I said yes, I got an error that said Acrobat cannot be set as the default app, or something along those lines.

When I went into settings to try to change it there, Edge was shown as the PDF default app. When I tried to change it, Acrobat was listed but it wouldn't change when I clicked on it in the list.

Finally, I went into the Set Default Programs in Control Panel and I set Acrobat as default to open all file types it can open by default. Hopefully that is the correct choice.

If there is some other way to do this, please advise. But maybe this will also help someone else who had this happen.

I am looking for a way to set a default homepage in Edge, that is set initially to a custom homepage when users first launch Edge, but that is not enforced and allows them to change it, and then it is not changed back. For IE11 we use a group policy preference
that is set to run one time only and that works perfectly for this in IE11.
I am aware of the Administrative template GPO setting Microsoft Edge>Configure home pages, which does work to set the homepage in a enforced manner, but this does not allow users to change it.
I see many technet and other threads from 2015 with people trying to accomplish this, but none where someone actualaly found a way to do it, there seems be a set of protected registry keys don't don't allow you to change them and have it work. It seems very
odd that Edge is the latest and greatest Microsoft browser but that it lacks so many basic management features for customization.
Now that is is 2017 is anyone aware of a way to configure this in Edge using group policy preferences, registry keys, scripts etc? Anything that can be automated for a large number of Windows 10 systems?

Some how my daughter accidently changed the default setting so that when you open up the Word Program, the defaults are set at an 88 font size, a font style no one uses, text already in the normal blank page and everything is light grey in color.

How do I go into the word program and change it so that when you open up "Word" the default is set at something that most of us can use for a normal document without allows having to go in and change everything?

A:Word Document - default font

Find and delete all occurrences of "normal.dot" on the PC, when Word is not open.

When Word finds none when starting a new blank one with the standard defaults is created.

It's a hidden or system file so depending on your Windows version you may need to enable the viewing of this file type to find it to delete it.

It must exist, so if your search is not successful, its the file type that is the problem, preventing you viewing it.

I have not had a problem setting the default browser, which for some time has been Maxthon. But suddenly (perhaps due to the April update?) not only has Edge taken over, I cannot now find a way to change it. When I go to default apps in Settings I am only offered the choice of Edge or 'look for an app in the Store'. The latter is plainly useless, there are very few browsers in the Store. In Maxthon it is still set as the default, but it just aint so. I do not know how to make the default browser in Edge itself. There is no reference to it in Edge Settings.

I doubt that this is deliberate on the part of MS? If it is I take a very dim view of it!

If I turn on compatibility mode manually in IE11 it correctly detects the existence of a DOCTYPE tag in the html and either uses IE7 or IE5 document mode. It is happily using IE7 mode as we do have a DOCTYPE tag on our internal webserver.
It I use an Enterprise Mode site list to choose IE7 Enterprise mode or IE7 Document Mode, it always uses IE5 document mode, regardless of the DOCTYPE tag.  While we transition, the default for our internal sites need to
be in IE7 mode, but IE5 is breaking our sites.
Can anyone else confirm this behavior or know how to make it not use IE5 document mode?

other web apps like www.trpf.com\xdf are also rendered as IE8  ?

Does anyone know if it is possible to get Word 2007 to select a different default dictionary based on the current document? it was changed to open with Microsoft Edge.
I changed it to open with my preference , Adobe Reader.
However It happens that every day I boot the system pdfs are set to open with Edge once again.
Is there any other way than ?Choose default apps by file type? or ?right click the file > choose open with > choose other application? to change the file association ?

ps.: the same happens with files such mp4 , wma and .flac to be opened with Groove
I think this is a dirty trick on behalf of MIcrosoft to favor Edge and Groove

A:Every time I boot the system “Edge” is default program to open pdfs

If you're trying to open PDFs from within Edge, then Edge will automatically open them, regardless of what your system default setting is. AFAIK, that doesn't change with the Anniversary Update. Bad Microsoft, bad boy!

However, once you've chosen "Default apps by file type" or other system settings -- AND you haven't been synching your MS account with other devices -- then, opening a PDF file in File Explorer, IE, or any other program will open it in Adobe Reader (or Reader DC, as the case may be).

It?s Official: Windows 10 Starts Blocking Flash by Default in Edge Browser

The world is slowly but surely stepping away from Flash given its security vulnerabilities, and Microsoft becomes one of the latest companies to do it.

The recently-released Windows 10 build 15002, available exclusively to the Fast ring, is the very first version of the company?s operating system that starts blocking Flash in Edge browser, with the very same behavior to be introduced in the Creators Update due in the spring.

Starting with this build, Microsoft Edge will load the HTML5 version of a website, if it?s available, in order to encourage the transition off Flash. If HTML5 can?t be loaded, the browser goes for the Flash version, but relies on a click-to-run system to give users control over the displayed content.

More Flash controls coming soon
Microsoft says that this is just the beginning of the transition from Flash, and explains that future Windows 10 builds will implement more controls to encourage the switch to HTML5.

?Microsoft Edge will now block untrusted Flash content by default until the user explicitly chooses to play it. This means better security, stability, and performance for you, while preserving the option to run Flash when you choose,? Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program, said in a post announcing the new Windows Insider build.

?We will be evolving this experience in upcoming flights to make the option to run Flash content more contextually ... Read more

I have got Microsoft Office 2010 installed on Windows Vista and on Windows 7, and when I open a document in Word, I would like to view it at a zoom of 100% instead of the default zoom of 150%. I tried to follow the instructions over here in order to reduce the zoom permanently, but the macros simply disappear each time I close Word and open it again. I also followed the idiot's guide to installing macros as indicated in the link above, and the macros worked...but as mentioned before, they refuse to stick around.

What do I do in order to prevent the macros from disappearing?

Thanks in advance for your help

A:Word 2010: how do I change default viewing zoom of document?

i've never needed macros - i use the zoom slider at the bottom-right of the document window.

with saved documents, it seems that the zoom level is saved with the file - so if you saved at 100%, it will open later at 100%.

to set the level for new blank documents, use the slider, then close down word - the next new document will appear at that same level, with no need to save.

that's how it works for me, anyway.

just tested, and it keeps the level after a reboot too.
