Preferred Solution: i need help with buying a cpu

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Guys, maybe someone's got an idea, if I'm making the right decision here. I'm about to purchase a used, but refurbished Dell Latitude E6540 from 2014 for roundabout 700 Euros. For that kind of money I could easily afford a brand new budget laptop. Thing is, the Dell is quite a powerhouse, a dated one, but still, it's packed with OK specs (I think, or more precisely, guess - I'm not really that much of a tech freak)

It comes with:
Intel Core i7-4800MQ (4x 2,7 Ghz)
15,6'' FHD Display
512 GB SSD
1. Intel HD Graphics 4400; 2. AMD Radeon 8790MQ (2GB GDDR5)
and a 24 months assurance

I use my laptop mostly for editing and rendering (Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere and such), slight gaming and research stuff.
Would be great if anyone could help me out with a little hint.

I hope this is the right kind of platform for this sort of questions.

A:Buying a used laptop vs buying a new one

Compared with new, one of the biggest problems I've seen with refurbished laptops is a lousy battery. Another is weight. If you can live with that though, the above looks like it could be a decent buy.

I wanted to buy a new cpu for my motherboard....

Can my Abit AN52S support Amd Athlon II cpu because I saw at the Daily Tech that AMD say that they AM3 CPU will be backward compatible with Socket AM2 motherboard....

Is this true and can I just try to put the Amd Athlon II and will it works??

A:Need Help In Buying CPU

Sometimes true... but you may find a big anomaly between the X2 and X3. Weird things can happen. Go to the motherboard manufacturer's web site to see if both X3 and X2 are supported. Remember, you have chipset software to worry about as well.

I'm considering buying a new pc - but I'm not gonna put it together myself.
I'm going to buy from Europe, to avoid futher taxation. But i'm not the sharpest person concerning hardware - and i need some help choosing. My budget is at a maximum of 600 euro (inc. operating system), ex. transport.
I'm looking at the following pc at the moment: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-018-OG

I'm going to upgrade the following components;
Graphic Card: AMD Radeon R9, 270X 4gb
HD: To the 1TB HD
And i'm considering upgrading the memory to 16gb from 8gb. (Although I'm not sure I need it)

This pc is going to be used for gaming - and i would like it to support high graphics, without sacrificing speed.
Can this pc support my needs for the time being and should I upgrade my memory?

Best regards, Simon

A:Buying a new pc

If your using the computer for gaming i would recommend upgrading the memory to 16gb. 8gb is fine for most programs but 16gb will make sure your games run properly without causing any slowdowns. I would also recommend upgrading the Graphics Card to a high quality one because pc games have a lot of graphics & not all graphics cards can support it. The rest of the hardware should be fine for your needs.

hi guys, how do i find out what ram will work in my machine please

A:buying RAM

If it's a known factory-brand computer, you need to advise us what brand name and model name and model number it is.

If it's a custom/home-made computer, you need to advise us the brand name and model number of its motherboard.

At this time, we have no way of knowing what type RAM you need and how much RAM is supported.

Looks like quality parts to me.

Is there a 64 mb cache version of those Samsung drives?? Just a minor point.

I didn't look at the case specs, but you might consider aftermarket case fans as the supplied fans are often noisier than they need to be for the amount of air they move. I'd make sure the case will accept 120 mm fans.

Are you sure the mobo has all the ports you need?? eSATA for instance?

Is that Seasonic modular?? You might consider their X series modular 560 or 650 watt models if it is not modular.

Hi there. I'm getting a new Dell 17" LCD monitor soon that has a resolution of 1280x1240 (or something like that) and a 12ms response time , but it has no DVI port. Does this really matter? and how good is the 12ms response time?

I use the computer mainly for surfing website, development and some graphic design with photoshop and maybe flash soon. I might play games sometime but it's less likley. And i'm probably going to go dual screen soon.

and again , do i need a DVI? and how would the 12ms response time be?
thanks in advance

A:buying a new LCD need a little help

For your use, the 12ms response time will be just fine. I have two 19" monitors on this system, one a 25ms one, and one a 12ms one. I don't see any difference in my development use. You don't need DVI, though I'd be tempted to buy one with a dual interface so that you can run either. Also, many adapters have DVI and VGA, so it makes connecting dual monitors easy, one DVI and one VGA.

i am thinking about purchasing a new dvd rom drive, because i only have a cd rom. i am fairly helpless when it comes to computers, but i want to know if it is difficult to install the dvd rom drive myself or if i should pay for someone to do it for me. also any recommendations on what dvd rom to buy? help would be greatly appreciated.

A:im buying a dvd rom...

DVD roms are very inexpencive.. This Sony http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=172460 is only $26. I might suggest going ahead and getting a DVD-RW drive if you are going to upgrade. You can get a Sony for under $50 through ZipZoomFly or NewEgg. Something like http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=172472 for $39.99. It may come in handy someday if you ever want to back up some pictures/music/files.

As for installation, you just need to plug it in just like your old CD-Rom was. Its pretty easy to see once you crack open your case. The pins only fit one way on the device, so its hard to mess that up.. and Windows should recognize the new device and load the drivers for you.

Good luck!

I consider buying Win 10 Home FPP(not upgrading from older Win) with licence for one computer.
If understand licencing correctly when remove I win10 from one computer(in case of retail lic.) I should be able to install it on another one.
1. Can this be done without calling to Microsoft and explaining them all the details?
2. How many times can this be done without getting into any troubles like expiring licence or calling MS?

In short I want to buy win10 and want to know how many times I can upgrade motherboard or buy a new computer without windows getting me any troubles.

Am currently in process to purchase a new Pc , what do you think guys about those two spec.

Intel Core2Duo 3.0Mhz
GigaByte MotherBoard
Ram 4GB DDR2 (2*2)
Westen Digital 250GB Harddisk
GeForce 9600GT 1GB

AMD Phenom ii 940 30Mhz
GigaByte MotherBoard
Ram 4GB DDR2(2*2)
Westen Digital 250GB Harddisk
Ati HD4850 1GB

A:Regarding buying new PC

Quite different machines... what are the differences in price... I like a lot of AMD processors, but no tthe Phenom II... so I would prefer the Core 2 Duo... If the prices are similar, #1 is a better deal... GigaByte motherboards are more trouble free than ASUS and others...

Are you building it, or buying a commercial machine or one already built...

The case and the power supply are at least as important as what you have posted... Some cases do not offer enough room for the CPU cooler... or for upgrades later...

Do not cheat yourself by getting a low priced case..

ATI x1900 XTX

Anyways i wan to buy another 2GB, the thing is i read somewhere that Win xp 32 bit wont recognize more the 3gb, Is that true?

Also my memory right now is sort of slow, it runs at 333MHz. So i want to buy something faster im just really a n00b when it comes down to RAM so if anyone can kinda point me in the right direction that would be great. I dont even know what memory will work on my MOBO, i know it need DDR2 and will accept up to 8 GB but nothig more than that.

So can any one help me out here? And maybe let me know what would be a good RAM to buy because there is just so many!

Hi guys, I'm buying a new rig and i need to ask some questions.

1. Is the power supply compatible with the case.
2. Is the power supply good and does it have enough power.
3. Is the case big enough.
5. What graphics card should I get. Im thinking of the GTX 275.
6. Should i get a SLI compatible motherboard. What type do you recommend.
7. Should i get the DDR3 compatible motherboard. ie the Gigabyte EP45T edition.
8. I have looked at the latest edition of PC power play. What monitor should i get. I thinking of the 22" samsung.
9. WD or Seagate?
10. What do you think? Are there any issues?

My budget is $1500 USD

Here is what i'm thinking...

Case - Coolermaster RC-690 Mid Tower
RAM - G.Skill-PI 4GB Kit (2x2G) DDR2 1066
Hard Drive - 500Gb 16Mb SATA II Seagate
Optical Drive - Pioneer 216 Dual Layer 20x DVD+-RW Black SATA
Graphics Card - Palit GTX 275 896MB
CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 2.66Ghz Quad Core
Monitor - 23? 5ms DVI Acer X233H Full HD HDCP
Operating System - Windows Vista 64 Home Premium
Power Supply - Antec EarthWatts 750W
Motherboard - Gigabyte EP45 UD3P
Headset - Plantronics .Audio 750

Please help me!

A:Buying a new rig

9. WD or Seagate?Click to expand...

Whichever is cheaper. Matter of opinion, but I would go with WD.

CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 2.66Ghz Quad Core
Power Supply - Antec EarthWatts 750W
Motherboard - Gigabyte EP45 UD3PClick to expand...

I would reconsider those three only, the others look good I think.
For gaming, I don't think the expensive Q9400 is the best choice. For an intel platform, I would use an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80570E8400 - Retail and a P45 (SLI or CF only if you think you will later on). I would lean towards an AMD Phenom II X3 720 2.8GHz Socket AM3 95W Triple-Core Black Processor - Retail 0 and a 790V/G/X/FX/GX/GFX AM3 board, so DDR3 RAM also.
The powersupply just seems like too much for a GTX 275, again this is slightly dependant on SLI/CF later on. CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 ... - Retail is a good choice, it is on sale right now for $5 less than the 550w.

I'm about to buy some more RAM to max out my Dell Precision 5500. At the moment I have 48GB loaded and I'm going all the way to 72GB which is what this model tops out at. I think I've identified the right kind of RAM to seal the deal but I just need a final nod from someone who knows better.

The RAM kit I've identified is Kingston Model# KTH-PL313K3/24G. A set of 3x8GB DDR3 Triple channel chips with ECC. My doubt arises from the fact that this RAM seems to be used mostly on servers and not workstations like mine.

Here's a link to the system report I generated using CPU-Z

If compatible, which ram would better buy.
Kindly help! thank you

A:Help with buying ram.

Either should be compatible with the motherboard. Both are 1.5V DDR3, with similar timings.

One warning: there can be compatibility issues due to mixing RAM from different makers. It's safest to avoid that. (Costs more, of course.) As it's a desktop motherboard, you may be able to solve compatibility issues by manually setting the RAM timings.

The better buy would be the least expensive. I've not bought any RAM from Transcend, but as far as I know, they're as good as any. I've had good luck with Corsair and Gskill.

Hey guys,

I've always been a CRT guy. Never liked the fuzziness of the LCDs. However, I'm sure they've gotten better over the years, and with my current monitor clunking out on me, I think I'm ready to make the switch over. Just have a few questions...

This is one I've come across that seems like a winner:

With a 2ms response time, will I see any ghosting in games? That is my biggest concern. Secondly, how would the colour/contrast be? LCD always seemed so dull looking to me; how would this one compare to the crispness of a CRT?

Also, I notice there is no DVI cable included. I do appear to have a DVI port on my Radeon 9600, so would want one of those (as long as I could notive a difference). How much do they go for, and what type would I need?

Finally, just so I can make an informed decision, is there a new flat screen technologie emerging? I notice laptops at school that have screens with REALLY clear images. Much brighter than anything I'm used to seeing on a flatscreen. And the picture quality is just as good from all angles, which is another thing that bothered me about LCDs in the past. I've never bought RAM before, but I'm looking to upgrade. I'm going to get a 64 bit OS and at LEAST 8 gigs of ram. I have a budget of $200.

What do I need to know when purchasing RAM? I know I need DDR3, but is there anything else that's important to know before buying it? Also, is anything more than 8 gigs over kill? Would it be beneficial to get 16? I play a lot of games. What brands would you guys recommend?

A:Buying RAM

4 x DIMM, Max. 16 GB, DDR3 2200(O.C.)*/1600/1333/1066 Non-ECC,Un-buffered Memory
Dual Channel memory architecture
Supports Intel® Extreme Memory Profile (XMP)

brands to buy incl' crucial, corsair,Gskill, these have lifetime warranty....... 8 gigs is good 16 is a bit overkill.........your board supports 1600 i would get that..........a 8gig kit (2 x 4 sticks)

Hello Everyone.

My wife needs a new computer. The problem is that she is looking to me for answers. Which 5 years ago i could have done just that.

But everything has changed, and i have been out of the loop so I don't know what is considered good or old.

I have 2 Questions......1. Should she go for a laptop? this way she can be mobile or setup with a keyboard and mouse and be just like a desktop. Problem is I know laptops cost more for the same things you will get in a desktop.

2.We are willing to pay $500, because she is not a gamer or graphic artist. She will just be surfing the net and watching movies.

3. I'm hesitant on getting windows 8, which is on almost every new computer. I would rather it have windows7. Am I wrong?

Thanks in advance for any info you can give me. Oh and one more thing WHERE is the best place to get a good deal. Most are saying BestBuy.

again thank you

Since it sounds like you may not be comfortable building your own, this Dell may not be to bad of an idea. I'm not a huge fan of pre-built computers (like Dell, HP, etc...) myself and mostly build my own.
2 things I would change in the setup you posted. The first would be the Geforce 7300. This relies on something called 'Turbo Cache' which is a fancy way of saying that is uses some of your ram as its own, much like an itegrated motherboard vid card does. If the site lists other options, post them here and we can help you choose. The second thing I would change is the system ram. Get 2Gb if you can. Both of theses things I mentioned will allows games to be played much, much better.

What would be the most cost efficient CPU to NOT bottleneck that card at all, dont suggest anything i dont need like a core 2 extreme lol. The best CPU i would be willing to buy would be a E6300, but if i can get by with less please tell me so. I can go single or dual core, dosnt matter to me.

A:CPU Buying, Help.

I would say either the e6300 or an amd x2. I think you will be very happy with a conroe though

Hello, My OEM Norton was about to expire so I purchased NIS 2007. The install went fine, but within hours I was crippled with "Powered by ZEDO", "Rockstar Games" and other Web Buying pop-ups. I hope this will be an easy problem for one of you to spot.

I tried the google toolbar and set IE pop-up filter to HIGH and still got them.

I didn't find the core.sys or core.cache.dsk files, mentioned in several other web sites, anywhere in my system.

I ran a free online scan (kaspersky) and deleted the following files without effect.
C:\\Windows\system32\B1\wr73.exe and some similar empty folders

STEP1: I did not find any of the malware programs listed.

STEP2: Panda ActiveScan disinfected 5 viruses (posted below) and I will soon delete my daugther's cookies when she scribes her various login names

STEP3: Spyware Blaster and IE-spayed both installed fine.

STEP4: No critical updates were identified for my Win XP sp2.

STEP5: DSS load and ran fine, posted below, extra.txt attached.

Thanks for looking, I really appreciate the help. -Ernie.

I'm ready to go and buy a big amount of CD-RW

Any brand names or speed in particular you guys recomend it?

A:Buying CDs

The only thing you have to decide is what quality you want to get, and obviously the higher quality the less risk for errors on the recording. As for speed, in my opinion you can buy the slowest speed disks out there and record them at any speed because that really doesn't matter and you don't need to spend all that money on epensive 24x cdr... because they all record at the same speed.

I have an HP Pavilion 531w desktop computer, 1.3 GHz Intel Celeron Processor, 256MB RAM, 40GB HD, running Windows XP Home, and I'm considering adding more RAM because XP is such a memory hog. One of my PC games, The Sims, hogs a lot of memory as well, and I think it would help to add more RAM. I have 256MB right now, and I believe the maximum I can have is 512MB. I looked at Crucial but they want $77 for 256MB and I'm hoping to find some other place that is a bit cheaper than that. So, where's the best place to buy RAM?

I' m wondering if I should buy this PC:

Athlon XP 1800+
Elitegroup K755A Mainboard (266 FSB)
256 MB Infineon DDR RAM
60 GB IBM HD UDMA-100 7200U
16x40 DVD-Rom
32x12x40 CDRW Burn Proof
NVIDEA Geforce 4 MX 64 MB DDR TV (if I buy the PC I will replace it with a Geforce 3 Ti 500 or a Geforce 4 Ti 4200)

1. I ran 3Dmark 2001 in the shop and it only got 5300 points.
Is this only due to the crummy video card or is there something
wrong with the whole system?

2. Can I use the PC 133 memory of my old PC in the new one?

Obviously whether you buy this machine depends on how much you are going to pay for it... The spec looks OK to me although I don't know anything about Elitegroup motherboards.

If you are benchmarking the system, it is a good idea to make sure that all the latest drivers are installed in the machine (I doubt they will be if it's shop built) to make the most of it... although the GFX card might be the limiting factor there (More memory might help too).

If the Motherboard is DDR, you will not be able to use your old pc133 sdram (U can send it to me if you want....) Why would you want to do this anyway? - you have DDR in the new system.

Hope this helps, I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong....

p.s. Just noticed that this is my 300th post.....Yippee!!
