Blank Screen, Slow Motion and Colour Bleed. GPU Failure?

Q: Blank Screen, Slow Motion and Colour Bleed. GPU Failure?

Hi there,

Sorry about the title I wasn't sure how to put it.

My newly built computer seems to have an issue with either the graphics card or the monitor or both and i am not sure which. The three problems I have are the windows aero animations have gone into slow motion as if the GPU can't handle them (it is the same for games) Also the monitor sometimes randomly goes blank while I am using the computer (most often when something graphically intense comes on screen) When I say 'go blank' I mean the desktop dissapears off the monitor but the monitors back-light is still on, I think is the computer crashing but can't tell because the monitor isn't showing anything. Finally the colors sometimes bleed in certain areas. Here is a demonstration of the bleeding. http://i41.tinypic.com/jkc183.png

What confuses me is that my monitor has different issues when plugged into my mums mac but still doesn't work properly. Also my mums monitor works fine in her mac but I still have all the same problems above when it is plugged into my pc.
Here is my PC spec:

Intel Core i5 2500 @ 3.30GHz
ATI Radeon HD 6870
MSI Motherboard H61
8GB RAM (all being detected correctly)
Corsair CX500 PSU
Seagate Barracuda 1TB
LiteOn IHAS124 24x
Here are the drivers I have:

My monitor (Novatech 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor Full HD) - I can't find any drivers
Mums monitor (Dell SE198WFP) - Driver version 1.0.0.0
ATI Radeon HD 6870 - Driver version 11.12
Thanks in advance
Thomas

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Blank Screen, Slow Motion and Colour Bleed. GPU Failure?

First thing to check is to make sure that the GPU is properly seated all the way as well as the rest of the hardware. Next would be to make sure that you have both 6 pin power connections connected and seated all the way. Thirdly, making sure that you have the latest driver installed and finally checking to make sure you that have the native resolution set correctly.

Hi Guys!
I need help for my computer, I thank whoever takes time and afford to reply.

I have been using my computer over 8 years and suddenly display to  go off after running couple of minutes opening all the files. Suddenly screen goes blank. But the processor is running.  I can't shut it down using power button so I unplug power cable an turn it on with safe mode I did system scan, found and fixed this problem "CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log" but problem still persist, screen goes blank and grey. I did the scan again and found no fault.

A:Screen goes blank to grey colour Windows 7

Welcome,
If all of your components are 8 years old I suspect that they are at the very end of their life cycle. Before things get too much worse be sure to back up everything in the way of data and documents you have to have. Then I would recommend an easy fix - a new computer.
If I were to guess about the weakest components they would be the power supply, graphics card, and possibly the monitor.
Keep us posted

Hi,

I've recently reistnalled XP and I'm experiencing weird problems when moving windows on the screen, or scrolling, everything is in slow motion.
I can't play movies on full screen, and some games are poor in rendering.
I have tried all the possible optimizations, but I believe the problem might be in the video card, when I tried to reinstall the video driver, I was told that the video card is not installed properly, but how could this be?
I mean, I haven't touched the hardware, what am I supposed to do?
thank you

Hi there gurus.
My pc doesn?t show certain colour objects in Publisher 2007 and some on-line sites. Overall, the screen colour is very good. I know the fault is localised, because when I switch to Print Preview in Publisher it looks fine and I can see all the object colours. (I only lose the colour with objects, not text)
Also, when I send a copy of a Publisher page to my partner who is on the same PC, it looks fine on her screen.
I?ve tried going to Install/uninstall programs and run the Repair, but to no avail. The guys in my computer shop are clueless without seeing it. Anyone who can help solve this for me is a gem.
Cheers!
David

I have a Win XP Home edition that fails to boot; the POST screen loads, then a choice of operating system configurations (see later), and selecting  one of them (the last on the list) returns can’t find hal.dll.
The other two options, one of which I have set up in the course of trying to sort this out, both end up with a blank screen.
Safe mode hangs up in the middle of the driver list.
The problem started after a power cut.

I have fairly exhaustively investigated and tried to fix this as follows:-
Seagate 250Gb disk in four partitions, C,D,E,F. Using a partition tool confirms that the active and primary partition is C. The files on all the partitions are all visible using file explorers on bootable recovery CDs (ERD Commander and HIRENS). I have been able to back up the important data. The operating system files are on C partition only.
Run disc diagnostic – passed, no errors
Run Memtest86+ - passed
Run chkdsk /f – fixed a couple of errors
Via recovery console on original disk
          Run fixmbr, reboot, not fixed
          Run fixboot, reboot, not fixed
Run bootcfg /rebuild fixboot. Reboot, not fixed (this is the most recent listed configuration)
Tried repair install from recovery console. Copied files etc, then automatically tried to reboot but stalled at same place.

Hi caveman1 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Great that you have the picture specially if this would still show outside Windows on the BIOS screen and is not apparent on an external video.

You can call in Lenovo Tech Support for recommended repair .
They most likely be asking for the picture for emailing to attach on the service ticket too .

I just bought a brand new Pavilion X360 Convertible 15-bk193ms Signature Edition 2 in 1 and the bottom corners of the screen bleed from the backlight display. Is this fixable without losing my laptop for months sending it back for repair? I know it can't be solved with any adjustments that are available on board, and it can't be a driver or software issue. Here's hoping for a quick fix response but judging from other threads and posts I've seen that is wishful thinking. I believe in HP products and unlike most others I love Windows. Keep me feeling that way please and help me fix this. Thank you. (This is the 4th HP I've had and the first with problems)

Hi,I have this annoying persistent flicker and bleed/stain on my screen and it is visible in any application. It is most visible in grey color background. I already updated bios and drivers but still have the issue. Anyone knows of any fix? I would want to have this brought in for repair via warranty, though that would be my least preferred option due to inconvenience. Hope anyone here could shed light on this.  Kicks

just got my P72 with a UHD screen and it has backlight bleed on the bottom.I attached photos to show.. It's on the right side just off the corner and on the left side that has a hard edge of light bleed and its pretty wide. ( it also changes depending on viewing angle ) Whould like to know what the vets think as this is my first lenovo. After paying what i did, i would expect no bleeding at all. Not really wanting to send it back just to get another one with the same problem or have someone come rip the screen apart to install another one that might have the same problems. what you do guys think?Any help is appreciated!

Yours is far better. Mine had more bleeding than this. Area to watch for is bottom left. Reported to Premier support. Waited three weeks, LCD was back-ordered, two times panels replaced, bleeding issued persisted. Now they are sending me new replacement. No point in calling for this, as my problem got worse. The replaced LCD part had stuck pixels. If the bleeding is affecting you and if you are within the return window return the laptop for refund/replacement. I am past 30 day return window, good thing about Premier Support is they escalated and they are sending me a new replacement unit.

This model has a major Screen Bleed issue.I got two replacements, but no good.It looks like this model has a common issue with its screen. Now I have no choice but to live with it. I owned two laptops previously from other vendors. None of them ever had such issue. This is the first time I bought a high end product. And guess what, I am disappointed.I wish you had a much tighter quality control at your end. You had cut cost in usb-c port. But screen should not be compromised. When you call it a high end product, you should not expect the consumer to deal with such basic issue. How can we trust you in future? Hope it reaches to the concerned department and they take some positive steps to amend their ways.

This isn't a small problem either, I've found multiple cases of this online. It seems to happen to the bestbuy laptops the most. I tried contacting hp support on the computer but they were no help and when they called me I couldn't understand a word of what he was saying. Great laptop, horrible screen.  Has anyone found a fix for this or has hp recalled these laptops? After the Starting Windows screen a blank black screen with a cursor that I can move pops up that lasts a minute (shouldn't happen with SSD, used to be ~10 second boot). Afterwards the login screen will appear as normal and everything works as normal. This doesn't happen when I boot into safe mode.

I attached a list of start up services, installs, and scheduled tasks, along with my latest boot log.

Any suggestions?

Since I got my laptop there has been a problem with screen backlight bleed in the bottom left-hand corner of the display. It is clearly noticeable when in a dark environment, showing dark content on the screen or when the screen brightness is turned up high, however, it is not that noticeable in normal use. Lenovo has offered a repair but I am interested in hearing whether people think this is worth it. I am worried that after the inconevience of backing up all my data and sending my laptop away, the repair will not make much difference to the issue, as it affects nearly all laptops so some degree. Does anyone have any experience with getting this kind of issue repaired and if so was it worth it?

Hey, first time posting here, so sorry if this is the wrong section or anything.

Lately my laptop has been experiencing a problem when I boot it up. After the Starting Windows screen with the glowing Windows logo, a blank black screen pops up that lasts for ages (I'd say at least 5 minutes). Afterwards the login screen will appear as normal.

When I log in, the desktop appears quickly, but when I try to start any programs, like my browser, they are slow and freeze often (usually I can run programs with no problem when the desktop appears). Sometimes the laptop will hang every three seconds. It takes a bit of time before the programs and the laptop run like normal.

I've tried several things without success:
-Uninstalling and reinstalling graphics drivers (I've never updated my drivers because no updates are ever available for my driver; is that normal? My laptop is about two years old)
-Defragging hard drive
-System Restore (I don't seem to have any restore points)
-Clean bootup
-Startup repair (or whatever that first F8 option is called)

Bonjour mes amis.

I recently have started getting the infamous black screen of death at my computer's startup, very similar to this fellow user's problem. Basically, Blank screen on boot up, before login screen; slow startup. The black screen lasts at least two minutes on average, before the windows login screen comes up. Everything else runs fine!

I think it might be my antivirus, Bitdefender Total Security 2013, and I've posted on their forums about it, and I've gotten responses from other users saying:

Quote:
The Black screen issue is known by BD Support till now they have not able resolved that issue.
hope BD 2014 resolves the issue.

And the booting time issue is been solved.

However, I uninstalled Bitdefender and the problem still persisted. I proceeded to uninstall every program i could remember installing before the problem started, so before the start of June. This was painful because I updated all my software, so everything was listed as installed recently.
My startup time after removing all these software is attached below; 156 seconds, compared to before with the speed ranging from 200-500 seconds, with the worst at 472 seconds.

Although this sped about my startup, I still got the annoying black screen issue. I am sure it is a software issue because the black screen is present, but lasts no longer than about 5 seconds when starting in Safe Mode with Networking, and is present even int he low graphics.

Hey guys, joined this forum to see if anyone can help me out. I'm not too tech savvy so hopefully someone that know what they're talking about can help me. A couple of days ago I bought a new laptop after my old one died. I use this for school and personal use. I love the laptop. It's great. I bought it from Walmart so since it's new a couple of days old if I need to return it I can. But I just wanna see if this stuff is normal or not and if I'm being way to picky. I spent a lot of money on this and if something's wrong with it I wanna return it and exchange it while I can.So the problem I'm having is the screen. This is the first time I've owned an HD laptop screen and especially one that's this thin. It's an IPS screen and a touch screen. Well i had some time yesterday to sit down and mess with the laptop and changed my wallpaper and it's a black wallpaper well I noticed the top left and right corners of the the screen there is some fade to yellow or white at the corners. So would this be IPS glow or back light bleed? I tried to take a good picture it's a little more noticeable in person but this is close. Also another question. This is a pretty thin laptop, the thinnest laptop I've ever owned and I noticed when I close the screen down when I'm done when my hand touches the metal lid on the back of the laptop while closing it the screen ripples, is that normal? I know usually when you touch a screen it ripples but I'm touching the back of it so just wanna be sure that's nor... Read more

This is my second HP Omen, the first one I purchased was returned within two weeks for the exact same issue. My laptops screen is flickering in a strobe light fashion and this is the exact same issue I fully returned the last laptop for. A reboot does not seem to have any effect leaving me to heavily believe this is a hardware not a software related issue. The screen will flicker and around the edges there are very distinct Red then Blue then Green color lines circling the outer edge. They are usually only clearly visible on dark backgrounds. After about 5-10 minutes the flickering will stop the color will fade and the laptop functions normally. Thankfully I caught the first one within the two week window to return it but I am JUST out of that window this time around so it looks like I'm out of luck for a simple solution. To top it off the reason I bought this laptop was to replace my desktop PC as I'm moving to Japan less than a week from now so there's no more time for me to be running around to stores and I didn't want to haul a full desktop setup with me although now I'm not sure this expense was a good decision. My phones camera syncs with the flickering so the video I have doesn't show much but the pictures I've taken of the color bleed are pretty clearly a problem. I just ordered a Dell Inspirion 15 7577 on the black friday sale (11/24/17) and, before anything, I'd like to say that Dell did a fantastic job on this model. Great thermal management, stunning graphics and highly solid and durable chassis. I am in love with this laptop.
But unfortunately, my screen did come with some backlight bleeding from the start and some clouding. It is not noticeable when gaming, except when I go into a dark area. But it is there and I cannot seem to ignore it.
I have ran the color tests (power button + D) and they are not noticeable then, but are very noticeable on a black screen.
What are my options and next steps?
Many thanks.

P.S. I am attaching a photo of my screen. The bleed is in the upper-mid section of the screen. And the clouding is most apparent on the upper-left and upper-right corners.

Dear TechSupportGuy,

Websites and webpages are slow to load and I get pop ups quite often. One pop up in general loads up and takes up the whole screen 30 seconds after I click internet explorer. Strangely, this pop up only occurs the first time I click on internet explorer. After the first time it doesn't come up again. Also, this pop up sometimes appears on my desktop, and those times I have to restart my computer because I can't remove it from the screen.

Please Help Me,
FranDaMan

you have an outdated version of HJT.

Please do this:

* Click here to download HJTsetup.exe
∑ Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
∑ Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
∑ By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
∑ Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
∑ Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
∑ Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
∑ At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
∑ Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
∑ Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
∑ Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
∑ DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

I have been fighting this syndrome for some time now. Here is the background.

I have an Dell Latitude XP OS, PS, 2 MHz processor, 512 MB RAM. etc.

When d/l my mail (Outlook Express), or send it, the process is very slow in the dialup mode. This is not the case with broadband. Slow, meaning minutes upon minutes, compared to seconds. I can 'see' that the computer is 'waiting' for the list of messages from the server, or is waiting to send messages to the server. Sometimes it waits 10 minutes, and the POP server times out.

This never happens with RoadRunner broadband.

I have an IBM Thinkpad (PII) with Win 2000 and it beat this XP20-50X over, working in the same room on the same telephone line.

I have scanned with Ad-Aware, Spybot, Norton AV. I have this software plus Zone Alarm (free) installed on both computers (IBM PII and Dell Latitude).

This is driving me crazy. Is there a 'switch' I can turn off to get this XP system moving a little faster.

Thank you.

Good Afternoon,

I'm wondering if anyone here can help me, or has experienced the same issue that i'm receiving.
Since today everything I do seems to be in like "Slow Motion". If I open any application it gradually opens and fades in. This has only just started to happen today. I have recently just bought and put in a new CPU cooler the Corsair Hydro H80i and a new Wester Digital HDD, which worked fine for the first two days until this issue started.
My CPU temps show a normal 19 - 22 degrees so it's not the CPU overheating. I've tested re-seating my RAM which didn't change anything.
Flashed my BIOS with removing the battery which also didn't solve the issue. So I was thinking it must be the new HDD. I placed my Old HDD back into the machine, to notice that the same issue is still occurring..
I tested 3 different Sata ports now on the MB, still same issue on all three. So now i'm totally stumped. Only guess is the MB is failing?

PC Spec:

MSI Z68A-G45 B3 MB
Intel i5 3.3Ghz Quad (not Overclocked)
Corsair Veangence 1600Mhz 4gb Ram
Western Digital 500gb Sata3 hdd/samsung 320Gb hdd

Hope you guys can help as i'm a mystery!

Kind Regards,

Paul

A:Everything Slow Motion.

Download the ISO image for Memtest in my signature. Burn the image to CD using IMGBurn also in my signature. Remove all but one stick of RAM, boot off of the newly created CD and run the tests on each stick of RAM separately. If you get any errors (Red) that stick of RAM is bad and needs to be replaced.
If all the RAM tests fine, then you may have a flailing PSU. Open the side of the case, look at the label of the PSU and report the make, model# and wattage.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to hear me out. My computer is running very very slow! My system performance monitor says my processor is running at 100% (normally runs around 2%). I have had this problem many times before and have successfully fixed it by reading threads. But Iíve run into a real hum-dinger and have exhausted all efforts in my bag of tricks. I have run disk clean up, disk defrag, virus scan, erased all temp internet files and cookies. I run Ad-Ware and Spy-bot. I also erased one gig of fat from by hard drive (mp3ís and picís) still have 16 gig of free space. The last time I had this problem it was AlarmZone that was bogging it down, but it had to be running for at leased 6 hour. Closing it returned my processor back to normal values. I fear I have a nasty bug eating all my power. dose anyone have any ideas? Let me know if you want to see my HiJack list. Thanks for your help.

Kyle

A:Windows 7 Slow-motion fix

Try to rembmer - that problem was from the time your built your computer ?
Or when you installed something ?
try to remember ...

Try System Restore back to before that happened.

In edition - Check this address for more help - http://support.microsoft.com/mats/ae..._working/en-us
Start - type this in Search Box -> CMD.exe find at top and RIGHT CLICK - RUN AS ADMIN

Enter this at the prompt - sfc /scannow

Also run CheckDisk so we can rule out corruption as much as possible.

Also update or re-install the latest video drivers.

Hey,
It only started about 1 month ago. I was watching a series on a Site and unexpectedly it went in slow motion, I mean everything mouse, image blocked while the sound kept playing. I tried to stop it but it didnítí work even after I pressed to open Task manager I had to wait a couple of minute until it opened. From that day every time I am, watching something (only movies or series) on the internet this is happening. Even on, You Tube ,if it is longer than 7/8 minutes, is possible (not always) to happen. Now it is getting worst. I tried in the Task manager to see if something is taking too much power but nothing is wrong. It is a thing that happened only while I am watching something in the internet. I thought it was the Shockwave flash/ player which is working while Iím watching , and when I End task it and it collapses everythingís working again.
Do you have a solution?

When I attempt to play games that I've installed on my computer--whether with a CD or from the internet--the video and sound sputter as if in slow motion. It doesn't happen continously during game play, rather in frequent short bursts of like 10 to 15 seconds. These games used to work perfectly fine, and then this problem began to happen once in a while. Now it happens every time the games are played. This issue does not occur with games that came with my computer (like card games, minesweeper, etc). And I don't appear to have any other video or sound issues anywhere else. I have a Compaq Presario 5000, model SPXE1; Integrated SoundMax Digital Audo and 16 MB vVidia Vanta (I think this is my video card); I have Direct X 9.0, and diagnostics on this appear to be fine. It might be noteworthy that this issue first began while playing Microsoft's Ages of Empire II. But now it affects all my games (but preinstalled ones). Help me Please!!!!!!
