Internet Explorer keeps on showing up on Task Manager

Q: Internet Explorer keeps on showing up on Task Manager

I'm trying to remove it by ending its process but then iexplorer.exe just keeps on showing up from time to time. Moreover, it uses up a lot of memory and then eventually slows my computer down. I have to end its process so that the computer can function faster. I scanned the computer using Bitdefender Total Security 2015, but it found nothing. The log will be posted below. Help needed. D: Thanks so much!

Preferred Solution: Internet Explorer keeps on showing up on Task Manager

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have audio ads randomly playing in the background, and Internet Explorer is sometimes open (from 1 to 3 copies) in the Task manager. By opening up the Sound Mixer, I noticed that the sound comes from Internet explorer. Sometimes, the name of the Internet Explorer program in the Task manager changes really quickly, and sometimes it stays for a long times on the same website (mostly www.quackit.com or www.pinkmoney.com). Sometimes, I can end Internet Explorer with the "End Task" button, but other times, I have to go to the process and kill it. Sometimes, an hour goes by without a single problem, but sometimes the ads are just a minute apart. Strangely enough, they're in French (my language).

My computer is also slower in general, especially Firefox.

I tried following the instructions in this post, as the problem was quite similar to mine, but to no avail.

Cheers!

Hello everybody,

When I start up my computer I can open Task manager, and see that there are several instances on internet explorer running.  Nothing displays on my screen however, and I cannot get the instances of IE to open.
The websites they open to are all gambling sites or obscure search sites.
I close the programs in Task manager but they instantly re-open themselves and go to another site.

I have run Malware bytes and it has come up empty.
Please help!

When I open Internet explorer, the task manager always shows that 2 separate Internet explorers are open. If I minimize the 1 I open, I can't see the other window. Sometimes there are up to 4 at once on the task manager when I only have 1 open. The extra that show in task manager aren't there before I open a window and when I close the 1 I opened they all go away as well. The same thing happens in Chrome, Firefox, etc. I don't have wireless. When I end task on the other open windows, they come right back. It continues after a new hard drive and clean install were done so I know it's not a virus. I'm running Windows 7 premium, 64 bit. I use Comodo firewall with Killswitch, I blocked the Internet explorer but it still reconnects, it won't let me block it. It happens in safe mode too. I've tried different firewalls, nothing works. Comcast isn't helpful. What can I do? Please help. Thanks!

A:Extra Internet explorer in task manager

It's normal to have two iexplore.exe processes reflected in Taask Manager...when there is one IE window open.
For every additional window opened...another process appeaars.
If I have 5 windows open...my Task Manager should reflect 6 instances of iexplore.exe.
Just make sure that they all read "iexplore.exe" since "iexplorer.exe" is malware.

I have internet explorer running in my applications tab in the task manager, however I do not have internet explorer open and rarely ever use it.  I have run numerous scans from Malware bytes, bitdefender, kaspersky etc and they all come back clean, however a scan I ran with roguekiller did indeed identify IE as malicious and when I deleted them they went away for a couple minutes only to return again.  That's when I decided to seek more help.  I have pasted the FRST file and have the addition file attached.

So I was using my computer yesterday and it was completely fine. I turned it on today to find that all my files on my desktop were sorted by alphabetical order and the desktop was black. The next thing was a popup appeared saying that Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center has stopped working. The taskbar is completely empty and only shows the windows icon, date, time, volume etc. The resolution seems to be messed up and most things appear a bit blurry. Task manager does not show anything under any of its tabs and search is not working at all. Many of the windows functions are not working and it seems that data that was saved in my browsers were completely erased. If anyone has any possible solution for this I'd really appreciate it

Hi

My laptop is running Vista Home Premium. Recently, while it is has an excellent conneciton to the wireless network or conected via ethernet lead to the router, browsing has become painfully slow, playing on-line games impossible etc. Other laptops browse quickly between pages etc.

I today noticed in the Task Manager services tab that a large number of services are marked as "stopped" (about 50% of those in the list). I have attached a screen shot. I've no idea if this is related- but some of the services look relatively important.

Could this be related? Suggestions on where to go if it is please.

Many thanks

Mim

A:Task Manager showing many services "stopped" and internet running slowly

If ALL of the services were running, your computer would be even slower.

It's normal for 50% or more of the services to be stopped.

If you go to SERVICES.MSC, you will get a better picture of the services list and which ones are running.

I have the CPU Usage gadget that shows me cpu activity, temperatures, ram, etc. Typically when the computer is idle the graphs are low. On rare occasions the graph will peak and temps will rise dramatically for no reason. Being a novice, all I know is to fire up the task manager, go to Process tab, clik 'show all users' and look for a process that is showing mega numbers in the memory column and finding nothing 'out-of-the-ordinary' in this situation. The only way I have solved/'fixed' this is to shutdown and restart the computer. Perhaps this is not the way to troubleshoot this and there exists a more precise method?

Hello and thank you in advance. As suggested I am re-posting in this forum.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic425949.htmlI am running Window 7 64 bit on my laptop which is infected. I discovered this bug by a call from a relative asking if I sent an email to him and of course I did not. When I got home from work my inbox was full of email return notices from dead email addresses that I still have in my contact list. I didn?t think these things could send email if you are using cloud mail but is has sent mail to all my contacts. . I ran McAffee and Defender and no problems showed up. The next thing it did was send up a pop up telling me I needed to reboot and I had not rebooted for 5 days. Like a dummy I rebooted. I brought up task manager to see what processes were on the list and saw that there was nothing on the list. It has also removed labels from the tabs and buttons. The McAffee Center has no labels on it thus rendering it useless. Of course I have lost administrative control. I can't install Malwarebytes because the install window is colapsed and I cannot access any of the buttons. I am also getting a new error message when trying to get into some websites. It is titled "Message from Webpage" and says, "jCarousel: No width/height set for items. This will cause an infinite loop. This is not an issue where the menu doesn't show. Everything looks normal except no apps are listed.

A:task manager and notepad not showing up

"after the scan nearly every "exe" was deleted except some of them"

That's more likely to have been caused by a virus infection than by Avast itself.
While Avast can remove a virus, it can't necessarily "undo" the damage it may have caused.

I suggest you post on the malware forum to see if they can help you avoid having to re-install Windows. We can't help specifically with malware issues on the Windows forums. The malware forum is here: Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help - Tech Support Forum

All I can say is that you should protect your PC with something better than Avast.
The ones that aren't free are almost always better than the free ones if you are more than just a casual net user. Norton Internet Security takes some beating now that Symantec have finally turned it into something worth paying for that no longer brings a computer to it's knees.

I really hope someone has a good idea what is going on with my SSD partition of W7 Professional X64 using a Core2Duo processor. I think I may have confused HAL with my old HDD that I currently have in my DVD/CD bay via an Ultrabay Adapter on my laptop.

I had the platter drive with W7 installed first and then got the SSD later on. I installed W7 on the SSD as a boot OS device. I shrunk the old W7 partition on the platter drive and allocated a huge portion of what was left and created a partition for music, movies, etc.

That was my original idea. To use the SSD for fast boots and access and the platter drive for storage.

Now for some reason when I go to task manager I'll see only one core working under Performance. I also used Core Temp 64 it shows only one core also. I got a little curious and chose my old platter drive as the boot. That W7 installation shows 2 cores working in task manager!

After reading some threads it seems that I may have to reinstall W7 on my SSD. I'd probably think it would be wise to erase the old W7 partition on the platter drive.

Any suggestions?

Hello Hiren, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Using the tutorial below, double check to make sure that the Number of processors box is unchecked. This way Windows 7 will be set to use all available processors.

You will probably also need to reset your CMOS or BIOS to factory defaults to toggle it to recognize your new CPU as well.

Hi there, .. I dont know why my task manager is show that my cou usage is that high..
Even tough I have nothing runnung, ..
I check the processes and I don't see anything running there, . and the System Idle process is in 93% (for example) while the task manager is showing CPU usage: 30%...

What is this?

Thhanks a lot

PS:Cpu usage in task manager goes even higher when absolutely nothing is running

A:Task manager showing 20-30% cpu usage...

System Idle is free process space - in other words only 7% of process pace is used. It's an idle number, it is normally the highest number.

You might have nothing running, but the system has lots of stuff. 20-30% isn't that bad, mine for example shoots up to 61%, juts because I launch Task Manager, then it settles down to a lower number.

you might see some improvement by trimming down the number of services and startup items in System Configuration.

Press the WinKey+R and type msconfig in the Run box
Press the Services tab
Hide all Microsoft services Make sure the box has a check mark in it.
Press [Disable all]

Press the Startup tab
Press [Disable all]
Enable your Antivirus (if present) and touchpad (if present) - a tick mark in the box means enabled.
Press [OK]
Restart your machine.

See if the CPU usage is lower.

My Sony Lap Top will begin to slow down and seems to click a lot. When I go to the task manager, WAOL is using up to 300k of my memory, which seems high. It is not always that high. Today my computer is acting a bit odd.  I ran spybot and it found a few things and deleted them. Since then, I checked task manager and find a few of these: oYcdUH.exe and oYcdUH.com

I searched the net and cannot find anything for these.  I click them and end process button and they go away for a while but then reappear later.  I'm also hearing alot of clicking sounds coming through the speakers only when these appear on the task list. It sounds possibly like a computer sound that is indicating something is happening in the background but can't figure out what it's doing. I don't see any clicking wavs like this in the sounds for windows.

In addition, I'm looking for the best software to scan to see if I do have something on here. Not sure if it might be adware, malware, spyware, virus or ??? What to start with?

Thanks,

Bob

I am running WIN 7 Pro 64 bit SP1. I have 4 GIGs of RAM.  I also have a VMXP which I use rarely. I also use IE11. I have "Enabled enhanced protective mode" turned on, as well as "Enable 64*bit protection mode" both on the advanced
tab of Internet options.  On the security tab I have "Enable protected mode" checked on.

I think I understand why two iexplore.exe appears in the Task Manager and every time I open another tab, another entry appears in the Task Manager.  I believe that the Task Manager entry iexplore.exe is the 64-bit version.  But why do I get iexplore.exe*32
popping up when I have any tabs open.  When I open a tab the used memory goes up, but is released very slowly, if at all, when the extra tab is closed. My anti-virus checkers (Norton, Glary, and MalwareBytes) show no virus present.  I tried to temporarily
rename the 32 bit version of iexplorer.exe but the system told me that Norton was using it. I tried this before I turned on IE.  I don't know where in Norton to repoint it to the 64-bit version. Maybe I don't need to get into that?
Can anyone explain what is happening and how to correct the issue, if I indeed have one?

Thanks

Hello everyone, before hand I'd like to thank anyone who's dedicating their time and patience into my little question.

I decided to look at my Task Manager because my computer was reacting slowly even though I only have AIM up, when I looked at the overall processes it didn't have any significant amount of physical or virtual RAM being used nor did the CPU use surpass 25% or so. But when I went to the performance tab, I'm suddenly seeing red graph lines instead of the usual green ones.

I've never seen them before. I restarted my computer and it's responding nicely but those red graph lines are still present. Should it be anything to be concerned about?

Again, thank you for your time and patience, any help and/or suggestions are appreciated.

Hi,
Thanks for your feedback.
Boot your computer to clean boot mode and check this issue.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135/
You could find all your installed adapters from device manager->network adapter, you might have virtual adapter installed if you are using virtual network such as WIFI sharing or virtual machine software. Start from virtual ones by right click->uninstall.
Then reboot.
Note: you might need to back up your network adapter driver first for re-install them later.

I have a really horrible problem I really need help with!

Whenever I watch any video on the web (such as from YouTube), the video begins to constantly glitch and repeatedly freeze briefly and it's a really horrible experience. It seems to happen for a few minutes at a time, and then is ok for a few minutes, and this repeats periodically. When it glitches it is glitching several times a second and it becomes unintelligible. This typically gets worse the longer the video is. This happens the same if I use Chrome, IE, or Opera.

I've found from watching the Performance tab of the task manager that the CPU is completely maxed out during these periods of glitching. The video will eventually "stick" completely for several seconds, and then release and it runs ok for a minute or two. It's horrible! It's not the internet connection because the player shows the video has loaded enough buffer. If I look at the processes, there is no process shown that is taking very much CPU, just maybe < 10 % typically! That is really strange I don't understand that!!!!

It typically gets worse the longer the video plays (after 10 min it's a lot worse). Could this be an overheating GPU? Does GPU usage show up as CPU on the performance graph???

It is a really awful experience.

I could really use some help.

I recently added 2GB memory to the existing 2GB. Memory use during video playing is typically steady at < 2GB. Also, I have a dual boot OS with Ubuntu 14.04. V... Read more
