I have a 3com officeconnect router, everytime someone uses the wireless phone it disconnects the router.I tried changing the channels in the router but still it kept disconnecting.
Any Idea how to fix this?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a D-Link model DIR-625, and it always seems to disconnect when my mother logs on her computer. Is there some kind of setting on her computer that could be disconnecting us? When my dad is on his I never disconnect which is why I am wondering it must be something on her computer that's interfering with the signal or something. If I reset the router while she's still on, It will disconnect again within a few minutes. So where can I check if it could be her computer that's interfering with the signal?

can we see an ipconfig /all from your PC and from your mothers - make sure we know which is which
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste

Hey guys,

I am desperate for your help. In my 15 years of using the Internet, I never had to consult a forum directly, I always found my answer googling the problem. Not this time though.

Even though there are thousands of problems and answers regarding random disconnects from wireless networks, none of them helped me out, here is why:

Due to my job I am on the go all the time and have therefore in the past without any issues quickly connected to something like 15 wireless networks. Everything always worked as one would expect.
Now I am at a new place and I keep getting disconnected from the wireless network. This happens after 2 mins, 15 mins, even 3h after connecting. Usually I dont have to use the Troubleshooting, wireless will just reconnect by itself within a matter of seconds. However, constant disconnects annoy me and I need to get rid of this.
Since I never had this issue for 2 yrs with the exact same hardware and software configuration, I am thinking the problem must be on the router's side. Since I dont consider myself a newb in this regard, I feel save to say that all router configurations look okay, I didnt see anything odd that could cause this.
I am hesitant to change settings on my machine that I found when googling, because I was always able to connect without any problems to any wireless network. It seems just this one at my new place causes issues.

Can anyone help?

Hi murphy347,

The only thing that comes to my mind is that your present location is much more susceptible to Radio Frequency Interference.

Did you try changing the channel in the Wireless Settings of your router? ( There are 13 ) Atleast one should prove to be better.

Good afternoon everyone,

Please excuse the way that I may communicate as I am fairly new to posting on here.

I have been having problems with my fathers computer. He currently has a linksys B network card and also has the capability of hooking up with an ethernet cable as he is close enough to it. The software he is using is windows XP

The problem that he has is that while he is using any of his applications, such as on facebook, the computer will intermittently lose connection completely. At first i though that it may have been a problem with the network card but then found out that it is also happening when directly connected.

I run on the same router in the house and use a dell Latitude E6500 with windows vista and no problems staying online.

Does anyone have any possible idea as to how to resolve this. I am in the process of ordering a new network card for him that is a 802.11g instead of a 802.11b beyond this I cannot find any idea as to what is causing it. Any assistance is appreciated and I am more than happy to provide anymore necessary info.

A:computer int disconnects from router on both wireless and with ethernet

Welcome to TSG:
If you are experiencing disconnects on both wired and wireless,I might assume that the problem does not lie with the wireless adapter alone.
Couple of things I might do.
Run your updated antivirus/antispyware suite to flush out any potential threats.
When you lose connectivity, take a look at task manager.Any particular task/process using a high % of cpu.? Idle task should be running above 90%.
Boot up in safe mode with networking.
Same problem?.
Just to be safe,I might download any more current firmware for your router.I understand that your other pc does not have an issue, but newer firmware if available can't hurt.
Any error msgs when connectivity is lost ?
How do you recover ?

In October 2009 received Netgear wireless router as part of Sky broadband package. PC is 2004 Packard Bell Desktop, spec P4, 512MB ram, Geforce 2.
Using a Belkin USB G-Mimo Wireless adaptor, 3003, and Belkins wireless utility software, pc does connect to net fine. During a download of say more than 5MB, it will slow from 200kb/s down to 50kb/s then disconnect from net. If I do nothing, but wait, it will re-connect again in about one minute. I have freshly installed the windows xp home onto a formatted C: drive, all updates are done, no other unusual hardware is used. Windows is activated, there are no other problems.
Anyone had this happen to them, or might know what might be wrong ?

In my humble opinion some of the USB sticks are flaky as hell,

can you try another way of connecting it wirelessly, such as a borrowed PCI card.

or can you plug the PC in with a cable and see if it still does it.?

OK I have a local isp providing wireless internet service, and seeing as that the only other option I have is 56k dialup, I'm stuck with it. I have hardwired my PC to my router and it works great with surfing the web and whatnot, but my problems occur when I'm gaming.

-I will get lag spikes (expected) playing online games
-Frequently, yet randomly, I will be disconnected from the game completely, and the case seems to be a momentary lapse of connectivity.
-During these periods, web pages won't load and I can't interact in the game, basically a big lag spike. The game will boot me back to the menu, and shortly after (seconds after being booted usually, rarely minutes), I can log back in again.
Once again, I'm using a wireless router to connect to my wireless internet service, and these random lag spikes kick me off of games or temporarily stop downloads. When something requires a streaming connection, it's a huge hindrance to me.

Sorry if I'm not very computer literate, but I am very new to this connection and tech talk in general, so feel free to hold my hand if you have any advice.

I have been experiencing intermittent disconnects from the internet which as far as I can tell started when I installed an online game (Guild Wars 2). I have done quite a few things to try and get this resolved myself but its proving to be quite a hardy problem so I thought id post it here. First off a few details:

ISP: Sky Broadband Unlimited
Router Brand: Sagemcom
Router Model: [email protected]
Operating System: All networked computers are on Windows 7
Network Effected: Both Wired and Wireless Simultaneously
Router Status: Internet light remains solid green and I am able to access my router while disconnected.
Frequency of Disconnects: 1-2 times an evening
The internet gets disconnected for all computers connected to the network however the router internet light remains green. The problem occurs more in peak internet usage times. Before this issue I have previously never had this problem and no other hardware/software changes were made. I also get disconnected when no programs are being run on my machine and when the wireless has been disabled.

I am currently plugged into the test phone socket, have swapped out the micro filter 4 times, replaced the modem with a brand new one, allocated static IP's to all devices in the network, turned off IPV6, changed settings on my network card and then back again and scanned my computer for viruses and malware using AVG, Windows Defender and Advanced System Care.

I have phoned my ISP who confirm that my internet connec... Read more

I just recently went with a cell company that has no signal in my home area. I have a linksys router model #WRT54G-TM. My computer is an older Packard Bell with Windows 98 and my internet service is through AT&T in which I use a Netopia modem. When I first started using the fast access DSL I was unable to use an ethernet connection to the modem due to my computer being old so AT&T configured my modem to use a USB cable. Unfortunately when I hook up my wireless router to the modem and then to my computer I am unable to get into the internet so that my cell phone will get a signal. I purchased a NIC card and installed it to have an ethernet port on my computer. I have spoken with AT&T 3 times to get them to reconfigure my modem to be able to use an ethernet cable from my modem to my wireless router and they can't seem to be able to help me. If someone could help me with the hookup and installation of my router so as to get a cell signal using my internet I would surely be appreciative of the help. I am not sure that I am even in the right area to post this thread and excuse me if I picked the wrong forum but please help an older lady be able to use her cell phone at home and still be able to surf the internet.

Hi I just purchased an LG P500 phone with android 2.2. I am having no luck connecting the phone to the internet at home. I travel and in a hotel I can connect to the internet no problem. When I scan and connect the phone finds the network and connects, I am then asked for the login ID and pass word from the hotel and I am connected. So far no problem. When I get home I want to connect the phone to the internet so I scan for my wireless router. The phone and the router see each other, the router asks for the router WEP pass word I input it and the phone connects, no problem. I try to go on the internet and the phone tells me no connection.

This is likely because my connection is through the phone line, I have ADSL. When I connect with my laptop either wireless or with cable at my desk, I connect with the router using the WEP and then when I connect to the internet I use my login ID and pass word for the IP provider. Therfore my problem is that the smart phone can't get to the internet becasure I haven't logged in to the provider.

I have looked and looked but I can't find anything on the smartphone about sending or keying the User ID and PW for the internet service I have. Is it me or is this a limitation of my setup?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Our friends at TWC are again raising rates... this time the rental of our Internet Modem/Phone/Wireless Router will be going to $8.00 (from $5.99).... So its time to again look at the payback to buy my own, as this time I believe that the Hardware has matured to the point that buying the device will likely not become obsolete in short term, and it is DOCSIS 3.0 compatible. The latest device we've been renting is an Arris TG862 which serves as the Wireless Router, Internet Modem, and Phone Modem as we have phone service too. So.... The TG862 appears to be reliable and though it does not have external Antennas, the signal appears adequate through our townhouse. The question is does this Arris TG 862 compare favorably with other products available? I've not yet found any good comparisons of this device to other products... Have you had any experience using this Modem or is there something else I should be look at? And I should also consider buying separate Modem / Wireless Router / Phone Modem too.... Instead of the Arris's All In One Box...... Any suggestions will be appreciated!

Without knowing brand and model of the router nor what you want to configure I have no clue. If you have cable internet service no configuration of the router is needed, but some is advised. If you have (A)DSL service then usually the router's WAN needs to be configured PPPoE and your acccount/password.

Hi guys. My wireless connection woes are never far away .

OK, so I have a wireless connection that has been working fine for almost a year.

Yesterday, I restart my computer, and the connection is connecting...disconnecting...connecting...disconnecting...as so on!

This is only when I am actually browsing the Internet. It never disconnects when the connection is idle.

I have tried changing channels, and I don't think it can be interference, because no matter how close to the WAP I am, the connection keeps connecting and disconnecting.

Also, I tried connecting my WAP directly to my laptop and even the LAN connection kept disconnecting and reconnecting in the same manner! I even tried connecting the WAP to another PC and still, the same dis-reconnecting difficulty.

What to do? Is the WAP faulty? I notice on the WAP the RX/TX light is on and the Link light is on, then (when it disconnects) one light goes off, the other stays on, then the other goes on and the first one goes off, and this goes on and on and then they both stay on. After 10 seconds the pattern repeats itself...

What on earth is going on?

By the way, my WAP is connected to a router which is connected to my cable modem. The wired connection to the router works perfectly, but when the WAP is involved this happens (dis-reconnecting) as I said, even when PC/laptop is hard wired into the WAP.

It was working fine for a year, and then this?

I appreciate any help in advance (as usual ).... Read more

This problem began last week after my connection dropped off completely but once it returned after about an hour my internet would disconnect (not when the phone rings) but rather when it was answered.

I looked into the issue online and found it could be related to wrong settings on my Netgear router (which I checked out and was fine), the other issue that came up was filters.

So I rang AOL who said to change the filters and I put two new filters on and this seemed to stop the problem until tonight.

We changed the filters on Thursday and the problem stopped so we thought fantastic! Until tonight the phone rang and off went my internet.

It's odd as the disconnect only occurs when the phone rings and the connect immidiaetly restablishes after the phone is put down.

I'm wondering if there is anything further I can do as I feel like I'll hit a brick wall with my ISP (AOL!!!!), I've heard that it could be my router/modem is there a way to test this?

Anyone experienced a similar problem or have an idea how I can solve it or what the issue is?

I am still using dial-up as my main source of Internet access. I use a PCI SoftV92 Modem hooked up to a home phone line. This is the only line into my house, I have a slitter plugged into the line, with two ports, one has a line plugged in that is connected to the modem on my PC, the other has a line that connects my telephone. The telephone is a dual-system, it has a cordless phone and a base phone (not cordless).

My modem worked normal with my phone ever since I had my PC. Normally, when the modem was connected and one would lift the phone off the hook, you would hear the various noises of the Remote computer on the other end. If someone called while the Modem connection was active, they would hear a busy signal.

Recently, I had to reformat my HD. So of course I had to reinstall windows. So of course I had to reinstall the drivers for my modem.
This was about 5 days ago. Ever since, if someone lifts the phone of the hook, the modem will automatically disconnect. This is true with both the cordless phone and the base phone. If someone calls, they still get the busy signal and the modem does not disconnect, but if someone lifts the phone of the hook or turns the cordless phone on (like one would do to get a dial tone) noises can still be heard from the phone, but the modem disconnects.

I have searched through the various settings on Internet Properties, modem options, connection settings and stuff like that on my PC.

The phone does not seem to be doing thing out... Read more

But this problem keeps repeating at unpredictable intervals and i have to disable and enable the wireless adapter everytime!. Please help me with a solution.
I have already tried the following,
1. Re-installing,updating wireless network drivers.
2. Re-installing entire OS with full format of all hard drives.
3. Disabled (unchecked) "allow computer to turn off this device to save power" option under power management tab of dell wireless adapter properties.
4. Changed the power saving options for wireless adapter to "maximise perfomance" for both on battery and plugged in modes.
Having tried all these still no luck, the problem persists. I borrowed a digisol wireless USB adapter from my friend. this works fine all the time with no issues.

I need some help stopping the disconnecting. Its very anoying.

As the title states, my PC is disconnecting from the BT Home Wireless Hub.
It doesn't do this all the time and from what I can gather it only disconnects when downloading/uploading some amounts of data. Specifically Playing MMO's (EVE-Online, Tibia, Star Sonata, WoW) and Downloads.

Network Adapter Zoom Wireless-G USB adapter (

I have the latest drivers for this device and the hub is working fine.
The usb adapter is on a 3M Belkin USB Extension cable.
The Hub is on the other side of the house and on the second floor.

The understanding I have is that it disconnects due to low signal strength, but I have a strength of 30-40% most of the time, lowest being 10%. Link Quality always sits between 40%-100%.

Example: When I load EVE-Online Client, the client gets the status of the server cluster (online + number of players or offline, etc) This is when it starts to disconnect.

The connection just drops no matter what the link quality or signal strength. This happens constantly every 2 minutes.
Tedious solution for the random disconnection: when the ZoneAlarm Icon (my firewall) stops showing the data traffic of the connection, click Apply on the Zoom Wireless-G application. It looks like this refreshes the connection.

Hello all,

I have a Linksys EA6900 V1.1 Router. This router is probably 18 - 24 months old. I can't quite remember when I bought it, maybe it is even as old as 3 years, but I don't think so. The router will often drop connection and automatically begin to reconnect. This is intermittent, and sometimes the connection works for hours or days, and sometimes it will fail every 5 or 10 minutes for awhile.

This is a fairly new issue, at least with this frequency. We moved into a new home in June, and I started to get a very occasional drop, but it wasn't super frequent until the last couple of months probably.

This happens on wired and wireless connections both. (My desktop is hardwired) I have attached screenshots of the settings in my Linksys Smart Wi-Fi area. Guest Access, Parental Controls, and Media Prioritization are all turned off.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Hello, my belkin N router keeps on disconnecting EVERY 44 secs. (exactly, i've tested it). When it disconnects, the blue "globe" on the router becomes amber and starts blinkin but just for a few seconds. The disconnect lasts only like 2 seconds.

Hey guys, I'm hoping you can help me out with a problem I've been having:

I recently set up a wireless router in order to share my internet connection with a friend of mine. Things work fine most of the time, but these days whenever I use the internet for a while I get disconnected, and I can't access the internet again until I restart my computer completely.

I used to think that it may be because we were both using the internet at the same time that it would disconnect me, but sometimes I am just surfing web pages and it will disconnect me.

I look at the lights on the router and see that it's in heavy use. The internet light and the LAN light (connecting the router to my computer) are flashing intensely. Yet, when I switch off my computer the lights don't flash which means my friend is not using the internet. It is as if my computer keep sending information to the router until it can't handle anymore and disconnects. I really don't know what's going on.

If you could give me any ideas, I'd appreciate it immensely, and if you need any extra information, I'll be happy to post what you need.

Just for reference, the router I'm using is a NETGEAR wiresless router MR814.

I replaced a very old router recently with a brand new Linksys BEFSR41 version 4.3 with the latest firmware, version 2.00.4 Build 7. At first it was fine, but the modem got disconnected once and since then I've been getting random disconnects from Ventrilo and on online game (WoW). I would think that it's a WoW issue, except that the disconnects happen from Ventrilo as well. My fiance and I play from the same router.

- We play next to eachother and only one of us disconnects at a time.
- Disconnects are random, can stay in WoW but Ventrilo disconnects and vice versa.
- Seems to occur at any time, but might be more frequent in the evening.

I've tried power cycling or whatever (disconnected modem, router, and the computers from power and then later plugged them back in). I've tried resetting the router to factory defaults and checked for firmware updates, but it already has the latest on the Linksys site.

I'm know how to log into the router, but I don't really know what to change to try and fix this issue. Please help!

I bought this OfficeConnect Wireless SuperG Cable/DSL Router from 3Com. This piece was recommended by this swedish online store. Always bought stuff from them and nothing has been this bad. ;I

Anyway, if I put the network under some stress. Like downloading/uploading files or playing an online game, it disconnects me in 5-10 minutes.

So I have tried different settings with no luck at all. Another strange thing is that when I had the router at default settings and like 7-8 meters away, I could only get 11 Mbps. So I moved it only 1 meter closer and got 22 Mbps or something. I changed from "Mixed" to "Dynamic SuperG" and got almost 54 Mbps but very fluctuating. I moved the router only 4 meters from me and I got a contanst 54 Mbps. The router says it can work up to 122 meters indoor. ;I

There are no firmware upgrades either yet. There's so many settings that I don't have a clue about either. So I hope any of you people have the skill which I don't posess.

I bet there's something I have forgotten to tell you, so please just ask, I will check regulary.

Hello, I'm new and I'm having this problem that I absolutely have no idea what to do...
Some months ago, I bought a netgear DG384Gv3 router and I use cables to connect it directly to my computer. It was working fine but now, it's been 1 week since I started getting random disconnects from the internet. It's so annoying and in one day, I get around n 10-20 disconnects or more. I know it's not my line who's having problem because I tested it with my adsl modem and it worked fine. I also phoned my ISP and they said that my line was fine. In addition, I have the latest firmware and I tried resetting my router but without any luck. Any help please?

I recently bought a Netgear Wireless N 150 router (although I haven't set it up yet). One reason I chose it is that I was told it can be used as a wired network between our two desktop computers, and as a wireless access point for the laptop. But frankly, I don't always trust what the sales people tell me.

I've read on many sites that wired computers have some advantages over wireless, including security and speed, so I prefer a wired LAN for the main computers (they are within feet of each other and will stay that way). But I would like the convenience of going online via the wireless connection with my laptop in the other room.

I've never done this before (I always just had a wired connection between the 2 desktops and didn't bother going online with the laptop) and I need to know if this setup will cause any problems I should know about.

Please don't suggest I go wireless for the entire LAN -- I'm just too set in my ways to make that leap right now. If my planned setup won't work, I'll stick with my current one and forget the laptop.

When I connect my W2K server to my linksys BEFSR41 router my wife's dell laptop with vista home basic loses connection to the router.

Seconds after the network cable for the W2K machine goes into the router her laptop loses connection. And when the W2K cable is removed her vista machine connects again.

What do you think is causing the problem?

My router is often getting disconnected from the internet and it cannot connect again before I reboot it. It is an Encore ENTR-104-2 router and I set it to reconnect automatically - however when disconnected it does connect automatically (and neither manually if I try) and I have to reboot it to be able to connect again. I bought this router a few months ago and did not have any problems until the past few weeks, when it has started getting disconnected every 3-5 days. I have tried downloading a new firmware from the Encore site, but did not find any for my exact model, and the nearest one I found was not accepted by my router.

I contacted my ISP who stated there is no problem at all with my connection.

A log of my router is reproduced below. It was taken when I found my router disconnected, and I even tried to reconnect manually, but to no avail. Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I have a Linksys router that disconnects every 45min to 1hr & 15 min. Very annoying. Doesn't matter whether I'm using the computer or not. So I have to disconnect pwr. to the modem and router - wait a min. then connect pwr to modem and router and wait a min. and I'm back on line... what's going on...?? Without the router it never disconnects.
I have cable from Comcast an eMachine using XP home.

A:Linksys router disconnects about every hour.

You may be able to solve the problem by setting the router back to the default configuration. Somebody may have changed the settings on it which cause it do act in that way. Somewhere in the router's configuration, they should be an option to restore factory settings or something similar. Try doing this. If you don't know how, contact the retailer or consult the user manual.
If you do this and the problem persists, the problem may be your service provider (ISP). They could have problems due to a lack of servers or too many users. Try contacting them to resolve the issue.

I have a 2 computers connected to a Linksys BEFSR41 router which is connected to a Verizon Westell DSL/Cable modem. From time to time the Ethernet link between the modem and the router spontaneously disconnects. I can reconnect the link by going to the setup menu on the router with a browser @
Sometimes I have to do an ipconfig/release and renew to fix the link. Sometimes I have to power cycle the PC and the modem and the router.
Currently this disconnect problem has gotten much worse. It occurs about every 15-20 minutes while I'm connected to the net. It also occurs when either computer is booted or turned off (I see the link light on both the modem and the router flash red for a moment).
The problem never happens if only one PC is connected to the router. Do you think I need a new router?

Not sure whether this is gaming or connection problems, so feel free to move if it's in the wrong place.

Several times over the last couple of weeks both during the day and in the evening, I have been disconnected from the world of warcraft and ventrilo server. There are no latency issues in game, it just suddenly disconnects me requiring me to login again. The problems started when I switched to NTL and the 1mb connection (which should be more than enough) and had to use a router rather than connecting both PCs to the BT cable modem.

My partner has the same problems but the disconnects aren't simultaneous, they aren't timed and seem random (both from ventrilo and the server). Other programs such as teamspeak and msn messanger are unaffected.

Use the built in XP firewall, and a sitecom DC-202v5 router. I tried setting up port forwarding/static IPs and that didn't help. Playing without the router stopped the disconnects though. The cables were used when we had a BT modem and they were fine then. My network card is a TE100-PCBUSR 32-Bit Cardbus PC Card and that has also been fine before so the problem isn't there. Both PCs have Ethernet connections to the router. So today I tried a new router (without port forwarding), figuring that was the problem and the disconnects were worse

Both running windows XP.
