I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: USB 3.0 ports do not recognize 2.0 stuff like pendrives, iphone charger

This is what I do when I suffer these types of problem, which is often by the way, and I have not found a correct way of fixing so it is temporarily at best.

I go to Device Manager, then to Universal Serial Bus Controllers and I start uninstalling the Generic USB Hubs and then the other hubs, hoping not to nuke my mouse, if I don't then I go to the Action Tab and click on Scan for Hardware changes and it will rearrange the usb drivers and IRQs in hopes that they do not clash with each other. If it does nuke the mouse then I manually restart the PC and hope that it will solve the issue once I am back at the desktop.

There is no damage done to the PC, at least I have not seen any real damage but until I find a better way, this is what I have to deal with.

I have an iPhone 6 that won't turn on completely. When I plug it in, the computer makes the jungle sound and iTunes pops up.
But when I go into "My PC" folder there is no iPhone folder to open. This is where I usually transfer my photos to my desktop.
I know this is an issue with the phone, and I know there is a connection, but I can't figure out how to open up all those photos to save them! Please help, this was a refurbished (faulty) phone and there were some very special memories I'd like to save that were taken after my last backup. Thank you!

I have been having this issue since I did a clean, or what I thought was clean install 4 days ago. I had slipstreamed sp3 into my xp pro installation disk. I had never tried it, but figured it would be a good idea. After the install whenever I try to log onto sites like rude.com I get redirected to xmobilepass.com garbage. I searched and found out it is somkind of adware basicly for cell phones. This is my main desktop pc running xp pro sp3 so not a cell phone. Anyway I scanned with everything I could get ahold of and found nothing. I reformated and reinstalled. I still had several partitions with files on them for my back ups. I had made a new install disk as well just in case. After install same problem. I got mad made yet another install disk with different files and a different program. Then I deleted all my partitions reformatted the drive, pulled the partitions again and reformated again. I installed windows. Once I got online I tried the site and it worked like it was supposed to. A few hours later however it was back to the redirecting. The only thing I put on the computer that came from an older install was my music backup disks, and the windows install disk of course. This is driving me nuts. Oh and I checked and I can go to the correct websites with no problems on the other 6 computers in my house, so it is all mine that has the problem. I have included my hjt log file also. Thanks for any help.

So I have an iPhone 2g. Yes the original iPhone, a friend gave it to me. I connected it to my mom's mac, everything works fine, and it works fine with pretty much every computer I plug it into, mac or windows. It syncs and everything.
But when I plug it into my laptop, it's a Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Toshiba Satellite L505, it comes up in windows explorer as and iPhone, but does not show up in iTunes. I have tried everything. Starting iPod Service, turning on Bonjour, i got an old iTunes version, but nothing works. I DID manage to get it for a little bit. I just messed around with all the itunes services and managed to get it to work and I was able to add music and my apps and stuff. Then the next day I restarted my comp and stuff, now it's back to not working. I need to be able to sync my iPhone with my laptop. Any help people?! Please.

Remove the following items:

1: Apple Application Support.
2: Apple Mobile Device Support.
3: Bonjour.
4: iTunes.
5: Quick Time.

Then restart your PC, download and install the latest version of iTunes from Apple - iTunes - Download iTunes Now

Vista used to recognize by my iphone, but I suspect an automatic update did something so it will no longer recognize the phone. It is not a problem with the phone because it works on another computer, nor is it a problem with the cable or usb ports as they also work with other devices. The proper driver for iphone is in the proper place and I have turned off the User Account Controls and completely removed itunes, quicktime, Apple support and Apple Mobile Device manager, but vista and itunes simply do not recognize that anything is plugged in. Apple support was unable to help. Microsoft wants $60 bucks to deny that its their problem. HP says its not a hardware problem. Please help.

A:Vista does not recognize iPhone

The problem probably was caused by a Vista update that 'updated' the driver. Simply go into the device management console, and roll back the driver to a previous date. Let me know if you need advice on how roll back a driver.

I just set up tethering on my iPhone (firmware 3.1), and it works great with my laptop, which is what I set it up with. I connect with a USB cable, and my laptop is running WinXP SP3.

The problem occurs when I plug into my Desktop PC, also running WinXP SP3. Also using USB. It recognizes the iPhone as a camera, which my laptop also did, but, unlike my laptop, under Network Connections, there is no Local Area Connection icon that represents the iPhone, and of course the iPhone does not have the blue band at the top of the screen that says "Internet Tethering", and it is not functioning as a modem.

How do I get my PC to recognize the iPhone as a modem?

My laptop (IBM T40), will not recognize the Iphone/Ipod cable.

It does recognize my usb flash drive, but not the cable, so it cant be a loose connection. I only have 2 ports, neither work with the cable.

Used to work, stop working all of a sudden.

It says "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned".

Have reinstalled drivers, didn't work.

Have already uninstalled all the USB Root Hubs in Device Manager & restarted, didn't work. It did recognize the cable as my Iphone made the sound that it is charging, but once it went into Windows, it didn't recognize it anymore.

Installed new updates on windows, didn't work.

But they are same as what I've already done.

A:USB Wont Recognize Iphone Cable

Sam, what you will probably have to do is un-install ALL of the apple software, (something got corrupted, but what? is the "Q" that remains) and reinstall All of the apple software. FIRST, back-up those files you need from that apple software like iTunes stuff and any iPhone stuff(numbers and such) not the actual software though. Then reinstall all of the software from apple, if you forgot to un-install something, you'll find out real quick because it still will not work. If you wonder what to un-install, go to apple.com for the list of software to download, write it down and un-install it. Let us know if this fixes it for you because there are a couple of other things to try, but you don't want to do them just yet, I'll let you know>

I have a Dell model E6520 laptop with Win 7 SP 1, 64 bit, i5 processor, 8 GB RAM, no Bluetooth. I tried connecting an iPhone model 6S (mkr62ll/a) directly to the computer using the USB cable. The phone software was installed and the device is recognized in the Control Panel/Devices and Printers, but is not displayed in the Windows Explorer, even after turning on/off the phone and restarting Windows.

So my question is:

Is there any way to get Windows to recognize the iPhone using the USB cable? I tried searching this forum and also tried searching the internet without success.

I want to transfer some photos directly from the phone to my computer.

Okay, so I have an HP Pavilion DV7-1135NR notebook PC running Windows 7. Earlier today I unplugged it from the charger and used it until it was almost dead, I shut it off and plugged it back in. I noticed that the charging light didn't turn on after I plugged it in. I turned the computer back on and plugged it in, the light was still off, and my computer didn't show that it was charging. I kept it plugged into the charger hoping that it would charge, but it didn't, and it died. I tried plugging another charger into it, but it still won't work. I tried turning it on without the battery and just the charger and it still wont work. Does anybody know what's happening? It isn't under warranty anymore so HP will not allow me to email them about my problem.

A:My computer won't recognize my charger?

If the black brick in the adapter is not getting warmed up, it is a hardware failure which needs to be replaced. Also to rule out any hardware failures on the notebook itself, check with an alternate adapter to see if that charges the battery.

I bought my laptop recently(about 4 months). Normaly when I connect the laptop to adapter, if the pc is charging the red LED will be on the it will be blue when the battery is fully charged. But when I was working with charger connected, suddenly the battery stopped charging. PC do not recognize the charger now. I tried to run a bios ac-adapter test but it also saying charger is not connected. I can't update BIOS because PC do not recognize the charger. The most weird thing is that the charging LED is blue. But the battery is not charging or fully charged. Now the battery is almost finished. Adapter works fine. (Checked with a different PC in same model) Any help??

A:Laptop do not recognize charger

> I tried to run a bios ac-adapter test but it also saying charger is not connected. This is a symptom of a problem with the motherboard -- either the circuitry that detects when the AC adapter is connected  has failed, or the socket on the motherboard to which the AC adapter plugs-in to is damaged -- not making proper contact with the motherboard. If the computer is still under warranty, contact HP (using the "Contact HP" hyperlnk near the bottom-left of this web-page), and get them to fix it. > I can't update BIOS because PC do not recognize the charger Correct.  When the computer is running solely on battery-power, there's a possibility of running out of "juice" during a BIOS update, resulting in "bricking" your computer.  So, the BIOS updater requires AC power. In my experience, trying to update the BIOS is *NEVER* my first trouble-shooting step.

A:iphone 3gs dropped in coffee, now itunes does not recognize

Regular or Decaff ?

Water and electronics rarely mix well together as well as voiding your warranty the phone may be unusable.
But thats not what you want to hear.
First is the phone now completely dry ?
(it really needs to stand vertically in a warm dry place for at least 2 days)

Second if it is then try a hard reset.
To perform a Hard Reset, press and hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons on your iPhone simultaneously for 5 to 10 seconds. After a few seconds the Slide to Power Off notice will appear, ignore this and keep holding down both buttons. In another few seconds the device should abruptly turn off, followed by the Apple logo and a reboot. Now release the buttons. If your iPhone remains powered off, wait about 15 seconds then boot the phone by pressing the Sleep/Wake button.
Try to connect itunes again.

My laptop all of a sudden today (after about half year of use) refuses to recognize my charger while my battery is plugged in. Here are the exact symptoms:
1. While battery is plugged in and charger connected, the battery will not charge. If I remove the power cable and plug it back in, it will charge for about 10 seconds before this reoccurs. The battery icon on the lower right of the screen shows as if the power cable is not plugged in. HOWEVER, the hardware cable icon light on the lower right side of my laptop is lit, indicating a connected cable
2. While battery is plugged in and charger connected, if I remove the battery, the computer will shut down(as if the charger is not connected)

I am certain that the charger works perfectly fine, I can run the computer without a battery just fine. I'm not entirely sure if this is a hardware or software issue.

I did not make any system change today or yesterday, nor allow any change that was popped up(the only pop up in the last two day was a jucheck.exe which I clicked no to). This just started happening a hour or so ago for no reason at all for as far as I know, I only noticed because the battery was looking low, thought the cable was insecure but checked it and it was fine. Then I messed around a bit with the cable and battery and found the above

My computer is a Toshiba satellite P755 S5320
My operating system is Windows 7 home premium version 6.1 build 7601 service pack 1

Hello So my laptop will not recognize that the charger is plugged in or charged when it is on, BUT will charge when the laptop is off. I have the following product #: L3Y43AV and this problem started yesterday. Here are scenarios When the charger is plugged into the laptop, the laptop does not even register that the charger is plugged in and continues to work on battery power. It does not transfer over to being powered by the AC. The AC/Battery Light is either solid white when the battery has a near full charge, or eventually goes to blinking white to signify the battery needs charging. When the charger is plugged into the laptop, and I put the laptop into Sleep Mode or Turn it off, the AC/Battery light turns to Amber to signify that the battery is charging. Eventually the light goes back to white to signify that the battery is fully charged. However, once I turn the laptop back on, it immediately goes right back to battery mode. The battery seems to be working fine as it's holding it's charge like it was before this problem came up. I tried the following methods to fix it. 1) I let the battery drain completely with the AC pluged in. I then let it charge while off and turned the laptop back on. No Luck. 2) I deleted all the Battery Drivers and re-installed them. Then I ran the update checker to see that they were all up-to-date. No Luck 3) I ran a complete BIOS update. No Luck If someone could help me with this, it would be greatly... Read more

Hello, I justed started having the following problem with my laptop (P# L3Y43AV) When my laptop is on, if I plug in my charger, it doesn't acknowledge that it's plugged in AND my battery doesn't charge. The AC Adapater / Battery Light will either be white (not blinking) to signify the batter is charged OR will become white and blinking to signify the battery is starting to get low. However, even with the charger plugged in, it doesn't register anything. When I turn my laptop off OR put it in sleep mode, the power light turns Amber to signify the battery is charging. I decided to test it and let it fully charge, and to my surprise, the light eventually turned white. When I turned my laptop on, the battery was fully charged BUT as soon as I turned my laptop back on, it didn't register the charger (the charger was plugged in) I've tried just about everything I could think of / find online. A) I let the battery drain itself completely. I then shut off the laptop, and let it charge for a while. Turning it back on though, the laptop never registered the power cord / AC adapter B) I uninstalled all drivers related to the battery and then reinstalled them. No luck C) I updated the BIOS and still no luck. The laptop is only 1.5 years old and shouldn't be having problems like this. The battery seems to be holding a charge fine, but I usually work for long periods on my laptop and need to have it be able to be plugged in while I work. Thank y... Read more

Thank you lovely people for being helpful. You all deserve very good karma.

A few months ago my wireless adaptor started sporadically not working, and I would unplug and replug and it would work. Finally it stopped working altogether. When I plug it in it says at the bottom right: Installing drivers... for a few sec then says drivers could not be installed. But I already had the drivers! I also notice it will say "Linksys Wireless Adapter #9". Number 9? I only have one! Side note: the lights on the adapter do come on.

I downloaded the drivers for the Linksys USB wireless adaptor and tried to install them, but it said they were already current. I tried another wireless adapter and got the same error. I tried starting the PC in safe mode and the problem persisted.

I then noticed that my iPhone wouldn't charge either, and it gave the same error message about drivers. None of the USB ports are working for the wireless adapter or the iPhone. However the keyboard and mouse are working ok in some of the ports.

After starting it in safe mode and running all the antivirus and spyware scans I have, as well as an optimizer program, it actually started working for a little while, but soon stopped again. Another thing I tried was shutting down, unplugging all ports, letting it sit for a few minutes and starting it up again. That worked once but hasn't worked several other times.

I have tried researching this problem and only gave myself a headache. I ... Read more

Hi, Recently the main fan on my notebook failed. Thus, I found a new cooling assembly part on ebay, ordered it, and installed it. The installation process required the complete disassembly of the notebook. I followed a video guide for this. I am well aware that disassembly voids any kind of warranty, this machine was already well out of warranty. After re-assembling the notebook, it doesn't boot or show any signs of life. I have tried all combinations of powering on with and without battery, with and without AC adapter, and with and without the hard drive. The computer's charging light doesn't light up when the adapter is plugged in, but right after I insert the plug to the computer, I hear a very faint clicking once or twice where it plugs in. I am curious if possibly during the disassembly/reassembly process I broke a power component to the computer or possibly shorted out something on the motherboard. I didn't use an antistatic wristband during the process however in hindsight I definitely should have. I'm curious as to which part could possibly need replacing according to the symptoms described above. I double checked that all plugs were properly inserted as well. Hopefully someone can point me towards whether the problem is with the DC-in power component within the computer or perhaps the entire motherboard. If it's just the little DC component, could that be easily replaced? Thanks,Matt

My laptop (Dell Inspiron 3520, Windows 8) is about a year and a half old now. Lately it has been having issues recognizing the charger when I plug it in. Sometimes it will show it's charging for a few seconds and then it stops. Often, when I restart or shut down and turn it back on, it will be fine and charge like normal. Other times, nothing is wrong and it charges exactly like it's supposed to. Right now, I've turned it off and on several times and it still won't charge. I don't know if it's the battery, the charger, or something wrong with my laptop.

edit: I left it on with the charger plugged in just in case, and now it seems to be charging intermittently; the light indicating it's charging will stay steady before it blinks and bit and goes back to being steady.

Recently found a way to reproduce the following error: 1) Keep laptop plugged into charger. 2) Put laptop to sleep. 3) While laptop is sleeping, unplug charger from Thunderbolt port. 4) Wake up laptop. It will continue to display "Plugged In" when you hover over the battery. It may cycle between Plugged In and not plugged in states, but it will only remain in "not plugged in" state for 1-2 seconds before going back to "Plugged In." The quick fix is to re-boot into BIOS and disable battery, then plug in charger, start up laptop, unplug charger, and the unplugged state should return. It's super annoying as I have had to do this three times yesterday. What's the consequence of not addressing this situation? In my first encounter, I triggered the glitch while boarding a 2 hour flight, so the laptop lid was shut and in "sleep" mode. After the flight, I took my laptop out of my backpack only to find it extremely hot, and it had burned through about 45% of battery life. The fan was also active I believe. I have no idea what it was doing during the past two hours.I have my laptop firmware updated to the most recent patches in Vantage. Too bad, I don't remember what's the "last thing i did" that makes it not work, cuz it has been a while that I actually play CD-R things.

They also have thier usual complaints that the computer is slow. Now I've told them about downloading certain toolbars and free programs off the internet but they never listen. btw, I know weatherbug has had a history of malware/adware issues, but they swear by it.

Anyway I just pulled the HJT log off the computer and there is some entries I've never seen before. The one that bothers me the most is the Gopher prefix, that's something I know they don't use.

So originally my problem was that my computer all of a sudden stopped recognizing my camera. All i used to do is plug in my camera (Canon Powershot A560) and the little blue button would come on which i would press and uploading would commence. Now no blue light, nothing. After a bit of research i decided to just bypass and get a cheap memory card reader (SD). So i finally got that in the mail and plugged her in and.......NOTHING. Actually, not nothing......i get the following warning/error:

USB device not recognized.

One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it. (yellow exclamation point)

This thing is brand new. Is it a faulty USB port?

More to the story.......in the device manager my "Network Controller" has a yellow question mark and exclaimation by it. Is this related? I think it's all related but i can't figure it out.

Before this all happened i installed a wireless PCI adapter. Not sure it has anything to do with this but i just thought i'd thow it out there.

Is it driver related or something?

Thanks in advance.

My Dell Inspiron 17R 5720 doesn't recognize charger any more. And unfortunately my warranty expired 2 month ago.It was plugged in and working in the morning, but then in the afternoon I noticed that it was running on the battery only. It wont start without battery (just charger plugged in).
1. So here what I have done to debug. Me and my brother, we have purchased the same Dell laptops at the same time a year and a bit ago. This is why for a debugging purposes it was good.I took my charger and plugged in to his computer. And it works. Definitely not the charger issue I guess. And when I plug charger in to my computer, green light is still on the charger. And I have the original charger that came with the laptop.
2. Now, laptop works on the battery only, so this means that motherboard is working. I guess.
3. Next thing I did was unplugged charger and removed the battery from the laptop. Then I pushed and hold "Power" button for 45 seconds to discharge a flea charge. Plugged charger back in but laptop wont start.
4. Next I started laptop on the battery, went to BIOS and checked if the charger is recognized in the BIOS. No, it doesn't recognize charger. So, if it is not a charger then what else can it be?
5. Laptop doesn't have any strange smells so I'm not sure if anything happened with the motherboard, but I would assume mother board is ok because it works of the battery.
6. I was thinking updating the BIOS, but I can't, because it wont update whi... Read more

A:Dell Inspiron 17R 5720 doesn't work with charger. Charger is not recognized. Not charger problem.

Hi CJ777,
Thanks for reaching out with your query. You pretty much figured out all points of failure. Good job.
If the adapter is not detected in BIOS, it most likely is an issue with the mother board. In the BIOS set up, AC adapter should show up as 65w or 90w. If the adapter status is 'None' or 'Unknown Device Installed', it indicates that the mother board is not detecting the adapter for which the battery is not getting charged. Once the battery charge drains, I'm sure the adapter will not charge it again. Replacing the system board should resolve this issue.

I opened the Device Manager and under the category "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" I see the following:

USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub (USB 3.0)
USB Root Hub (USB 3.0)

None of my USB ports have a blue insert which can usually be expected with USB 3.0 ports, I've been told.

So anyway, do you think then that I have two USB 3.0 ports, and if so how can I tell which of the two are the 3.o ports and which ones are the 2.0 ports?

A:How to recognize if I have any USB 3.0 ports

Your HP does have USB 3.0 ports.
Their tab doesn't need to be blue in color.
The USB 3.0 ports in my Dell desktops have black tabs and have "SS" next to the trident symbol.

Here is the situation, my dell Desktop pc's Usb ports don't work, I can attack my Ipod, phone, Camera or even printer and it will say 'Windows can't recognize the device' it may have malfunctioned etc.. I will post a screenshot of my device manager to show you what it says there. The only thing it can recognize is my Mouse and Keyboard, don't know why but yeah the 2 things I need oh and also my wireless adapter.
Well I have tried numorous solutions which I have tried with no success, I have turned my Pc off at the wall which seemed to fix it for 10 minutes, I have uninstalled all my usb ports and re-installed which also worked for a small time then again broke.
Anything you need just message me.
Thanks Liam.

A:Usb Ports Cant Recognize Devices

Most likely, it could be a problem with your motherboard, that is causing some devices to not be detected. Another possibility is the drivers have issues, or Windows itself may have issues.
Go to:
Start> Control Panel> System> Hardware> Device Manager> Universal Serial Bus Connectors
(double click)

.......Do you see any yellow exclamation marks next to the hardware?

If there are no driver issues, you may find that clicking "uninstall" for the USB devices, and restarting
your computer allowing the drivers to re-install..could clear up the problem. You may need to troubleshoot to narrow down the problem, but as I stated the problem could be with the motherboard itself.

(You could also try getting a USB PCI/PCI-E card if you can obtain one and see if the problem persists)

A:USB ports don't recognize my usb devices

With none of the items giving issues connected to the USB ports , what happens if you right click and uninstall that 'unknown device' in the Device manager and re-boot your PC...does it re-appear and windows then tries to install a device driver for it?

Hope this post is in the right forum.
I have a 6 month old HP Pavilion dv6 Series laptop. Up until recently the USB ports on the right hand side of the machine (2 of) accepted my Trackball mouse, but now they don't. The USB port on the left side is fine, the mouse works ok in that one. The ports on the right side work for other things, like my internet connection dongle, just won't recognize the mouse.
Any idea why this would be happening ?
Thanks in advance,

A:USB ports won't recognize mouse

Have you replaced the batteries in the mouse lately?
