AVG has released its bug bounty hunter program

Q: AVG has released its bug bounty hunter program

as of today , AVG has opened up their own bug bounty hunter program . they challange hackers if they can find critical bugs in the following area's :

We are interested in security related bugs only:
- Remote code execution
- Local privilege escalation: e.g. situations when AVG allows a non-privileged user to gain Administrator or System rights
- Denial of service (DoS): e.g. crashes of AVG processes or BSOD caused by AVG drivers
- Self Protection bypass: e.g. causing corruption of AVG files, registry keys or running processes or making key components of AVG product nonfunctional

discription of the program :

We appreciate all security concerns brought forth and are constantly striving to keep on top of the latest threats. Being pro-active rather than re-active to emerging security issues is a fundamental belief at AVG Technologies. Every day new security issues and attack vectors are created. Starting this fall, Apple will pay up to $200,000 for iOS and iCloud bugs

As part of a security presentation given at this year's Black Hat conference, Apple today announced that it would be starting up a bug bounty program in the fall. The program will reward security researchers who uncover vulnerabilities in Apple's products and bring them to the company's attention. Google, Microsoft, Facebook, and many other companies have offered bug bounty programs for some time now, but this is Apple's first.

For now, Apple is intentionally keeping the scope of the program small. It will initially be accepting bug reports from a small group of a few dozen security researchers it has worked with in the past. For now, bounties are only being offered for a small range of iDevice and iCloud bugs. The full list is as follows:
Secure boot firmware components: Up to $200,000 (~£150,000)
Extraction of confidential material protected by the Secure Enclave: Up to $100,000.
Execution of arbitrary code with kernel privileges: Up to $50,000.
Access from a sandboxed process to user data outside of that sandbox: Up to $25,000.
Unauthorized access to iCloud account data on Apple servers: Up to $50,000.
As the program continues and Apple works the, um, bugs out of its processes, the company will expand the list of eligible security researchers as well as the list of hardware and software bugs for which bounties are offered.

Researchers who want to claim the bounties will need... Read more

The convergence of connectivity technology and the automotive industry is creating a more enjoyable driving experience. Features such as self-diagnostics, keyless entry and ignition is becoming commonplace. However, they can also introduce IT security issues.

Last month we learned that the Mitsubishi Outlander can be easily broken into by attackers exploiting security weaknesses in the setup that allows the car to be remotely controlled via an app. Last week a researcher unveiled two vulnerabilities in the BMW ConnectedDrive web portal/web application.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles bug bounty
Today, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles launched a public bug bounty program on the Bugcrowd platform to enhance the safety and security of its vehicles and connected services.

?Bugcrowd was chosen based on the scale of their existing programs, the pool of researchers already engaged in their programs and their model for triage and recognition of identified vulnerabilities,? Titus Melnyk, senior manager of security architecture, FCA US LLC, told Help Net Security.

Source: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Vulnerability Disclosure

In early November, a well-known and respected security researcher by the name of Tavis Ormandy alerted us to several security vulnerabilities in the consumer version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

Within days, we were able to fix several of the vulnerabilities server-side and are now internally testing a new version (2.2.1) to release in the next 3-4 weeks to patch the additional client-side vulnerabilities. At this time, we are still triaging based on severity.

The research seems to indicate that an attacker could use some of the processes described to insert their own code onto a targeted machine. Based on the findings, we believe that this could only be done by targeting one machine at a time.

However, this is of sufficient enough a concern that we are seeking to implement a fix. Consumers using the Premium version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware should enable self-protection under settings to mitigate all of the reported vulnerabilities.

Unfortunately, vulnerabilities are the harsh reality of software development. In fact, this year alone, our researchers have found and reported several vulnerabilities with other software. A vulnerability disclosure program is one way to accelerate the discovery of these vulnerabilities and empower companies like Malwarebytes to fix them.

I?d like to take this opportunity to launch the Malwarebytes Bug Bounty program which I hope will encourage other security researchers to re... Read more

I've heard that Microsoft offers a reward for bugs on Windows 10.
I found an interesting bug, but it doesn't have any security implications on Windows, but it actually causes a commercial Antivirus to not function properly.
My question is, should I apply to the Microsoft bug bounty reward ?
If so, how is the payment processed ? by paypal, check ?
If my windows bug is eligible for a reward, then Microsoft would be supporting a greater cause, which is my antivirus:

Bug Bounty Programs are programs whereby an individual is rewarded by the company or website concerned after they have pointed out a bug in such website. They are also called vulnerability bounty programs or hacker bounty programs. And researchers who do reporting of the bugs and defects in such programs or websites are called bounty hunters. These reportings help companies to get rid of such bugs at the right time before they are exploited by hackers and other miscreants.
The job of a bug bounty hunter is straight, find a bug and get rewarded. This is turned into a great profession for many. In this article, we shall be enlisting the names of 10 famous bounty hunters who are trusted by companies all around and are famous for their good deeds.

I'm fixing this system for someone and they had the typical antivirus 2012 popup rampage BS. I got process explorer to run, found where its process launched from (application data/local) and there were three 3-character executables sitting there, all created on the same date, one of which was repeatedly starting up. So I terminated and deleted those three and the system was acting mostly normal. There were no unable-to-account-for items in any of the various ways to view startup lists but now windows update is broken :(

It's Win7 so I ran the built in Windows Update utility and 1 installed and 14 didn't but they were already downloaded. So I deleted the update cache with a batch file containing:
CD %Windir%
CD SoftwareDistribution
DEL /F /S /Q Download

and that worked so I re-checked for updates and it was the same ones so I hit download and they did redownload successfully then all failed to install pretty quickly. So I picked one of the Win7 security updates from the list and downloaded the WIn7 64 bit version of that KB# from download.microsoft.com and tried to install it manually via a standalone installer download of it. It went through the steps nicely then just said it failed.
I unhid the administrator account and logged in as that (for the first time on this system by the way) and got the same result trying to run it. So apparently something isn't quite right.

So I ran the SFC utility and it came up with a result that some... Read more

Hi All, I have a Lenovo B590 laptop. I had some issues with my wifi card (long story, and I guess it's not relevant) and decided to update my BIOS. The original version was H1ET75WW (1.18). I made a bootable USB with Rufus and the updating process was started. During the update I got a message like ?System will be restarted?. However, it didn't turn on anymore, the update seems failed. Now when I push the power button, the power led lights up, the fan starts and after a few seconds it restarts again and again endlessly. The first ?boot? is a bit longer 6-8 seconds, the next ones shorter, 3-4 seconds, but the screen is always blank. It's a bit promising that when I plug in an USB and while holding the Fn+R buttons and turning the laptop on, then the first ?boot? is a bit longer, and it tries to read the USB drive - at least it's led light starts blinking. So I hope that there is a solution to repair the BIOS by using the appropriate files ont the USB stick. What I tried so far:Taking out the battery and plugging out tha AC power, and holding the power button for a minute.Taking out the CMOS battery for half an hour and pushed the power button without battery/AC power.WinCrisis (even though I couldn't find a BIOS.wph file, but tried to rename EXE and CAP files).Creating a bootable USB again, with the DOS files on it from the official Lenovo site.Trying to rename/edit autoexec.bat and other files endlessly... Hi all,

Having this problem for several months, suspected HDD first but bought new M500 and seems there's something else is responsible for this "fun" I'm having with the PC.

Basically, the nature seems to be the same all the time - when I playing video games (currently it is Kings Bounty, used to be the problem with Max Payne 2012 even during the installation), also used to play Flash games and used to watch video online, it was crushing.
Most common BSOD problem was "page fault in non-paged area" and "IRQL is not less or equal". Sometimes it gives me just a black screen and nothing else at all so I have to go "hard reboot". Sometimes, it hangs with the destroyed, "torn in pieces" video and annoying repetitive sound like ding-ding-ding, so I need to reboot it again, sometimes it goes into BSOD with some errors and exceptions.

I have tried numerous times different Windows 7 versions, both x86 and x64 architecture, and tried XP. Same issues.

I have noticed although, that when the W7 has a clean installation and almost no updates installed, it gives me less headache. Recently I have stopped installing the Catalyst suite for the graphics and thought the problem was just with that but after going through all Windows updates it started again.

I think that there is something with the video, but cannot get to the bottom of it.

Please help as this is becoming now a paranoia for me and I cannot sleep properly.... Read more

Exploit broker steals Apple thunder, offers $500,000 for iOS zero days:
SOURCE: zdnet.com (ARTICLE DATE: 11th Aug 2016)

It was only last week that Apple finally launched a bug bounty program, but it did not take long for exploit peddlers to outbid the tech giant...

Apple is offering security researchers up to $200,000 if they privately disclose serious, critical holes in software rather than take such vulnerabilities and exploits elsewhere. However, Exodus Intelligence upped the game on Tuesday by raising Apple's bid, luring researchers with rewards of up to half a million for valid Apple software bugs.

The exploit trader has launched a "hit list" of the hottest, most wanted exploits for software including Apple iOS, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Adobe Flash. The company will pay $500,000 for the most dangerous bugs in Apple iOS 9.3 and above -- and researchers can choose to take a lump sum or smaller payments which continue to roll in as long as the exploit is still alive.

"Exodus is excited to be engaging the global research community in our mission to provide the highest quality of vulnerability intelligence in the industry," Logan Brown, president of Exodus Intelligence said.

If SpyHunter can't be uninstalled from Programs and Features in Control Panel...download and run SpyHunterCleaner by M-K-D-B, a simple batch file (converted into a .exe) that should remove all traces of SpyHunter.
Make sure you save SpyHunterCleaner to your Desktop or it will not work. <- Important!
Disable the real-time protection of your anti-viurs and ant-imalware software.
Close all open programs and internet browsers.
Double-click on SpyHunterCleaner.exe to run the tool.
A command line window will open. Press any key to start the removal process.
After the tool has finished, it will automatically reboot your computer in order to remove SpyHunter completely.

A:Spy Hunter? Is It Legit?

From a most trusted resourceRogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware Products & Web SitesNote on Enigma SpyHunter: Enigma's SpyHunter anti-spyware application was listed on this page primarily because of the company's history of employing aggressive, deceptive advertising (1, 2, 3, 4, 5). The company was also known for exploiting the name "spybot" in its domain names and online advertising. These objectionable business practices were employed primarily from late-2002 to mid-2004.Sometime during summer of 2004 the company halted the most obnoxious and objectionable aspects of its online advertising. It also unloaded all the "spybot" domains (which were promptly picked up by Paretologic for its XoftSpy anti-spyware application). While there are still unresolved allegations that SpyHunter transmits the Windows Product ID from users' PCs (1), we can no longer classify this application as "rogue/suspect." Nonetheless, SpyHunter -- at least in its current state -- cannot be recommended because of its mediocre performance as an anti-spyware scanner. Testing indicates that it does not recognize some well-known spyware installations and has difficulty removing critical spyware/adware files even from those it does recognize (1). Given the many excellent competing anti-spyware applications that are available (some for free), users would do better looking elsewhere for trustworthy anti-spyware protection. A:Spy hunter and speed up my PC and even more! help!

SpyHunter by Enigma Software is a program that was previously listed as a rogue product on the Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware Products List because of the company's history of employing aggressive and deceptive advertising. It has since been delisted but in my opinion it is a dubious program which is not very effective compared to others with a proven track record and I would not trust all the detections provided by its scanning engine. Newer versions of SpyHunter apparently installs it's own "Compact OS" and uses Grub4Dos loader to execute on boot up. The user no longer sees the normal Windows boot menu but instead sees the GRUB menu. For some folks this has resulted in SpyHunter causing a continuous loop when attempting to boot.If you have downloaded and scanned with SpyHunter, any detection results should be viewed with suspicion. My personal recommendation would be to remove the program and replace it with a trustworthy alternative. How to Uninstall SpyHunterPlease download and use the following tools (in the order listed) which will search for and remove many potentially unwanted programs (PUPs), adware, toolbars, browser hijackers, extensions, add-ons and other junkware as well as related registry entries (values, keys) and remnants.RKill created by Grinler (aka Lawrence Abrams), the site owner of BleepingComputer.AdwCleaner created by Xplode.Junkware Removal Tool created by thisisu.1. I have been running Silent Hunter 4, (patch 1.04) from Ubisoft, since day 1 in various versions of windows including 8.1; now it wont work? With, and without, RSRDC. Even down to ver 1.04 with no mods. no luck. Ideas anyone? Win 8.1 has a auto compatibility software, which works in others but not SH4, even manual compat does not work, nothing new there.
Ok figured it out. This is the latest version of 8.1 and not the original I once used. The auto compat required a reboot after installing SH4. Then run the program , exit to windows and then you get a pop up asking if it ran right as Win 8.1 has applied compat setting automatically.

I ran it, checked it, closed it and then put RSRDC patch and sounds mod back in - works fine. Still to see if any probs during game as I have not ran a scenario yet.

Hello, Unfortunately, I cannot uninstall SpyHunter (supposedly) anti-spyware trial version. I found it because was trying to get rid of another annoyance, the SEARCHQU. browser hijacker. When I googled, "remove Serchque," I found what I think I remember a Softpedia (?) website touting SpyHunter as a great tool for removing browser hijackers. For one, I didn't realize it was a trial version until I went to remove all of the stuff on my computer that is (according to SpyHunter) there.
Well, I deeply, deeply regret downloading that thing and in the future, I will try to be even more careful. However, I have tried EVERYTHING to remove it, including following Enigmas' own uninstall intructions-- nope, isn't working. I cannot uninstall it from the Windows Uninstall programs in the control panel. It just re-installs itself. I tried Revo uninstaller, but it doesn't even list SpyHunter in the list of programs--- which, by the way, it is still listed in the control panel Uninstall program list. I have attempted to uninstall about 10 times, I've re-booted--still there. As mentioned, I've followed Enigmas' instructions, no luck-- and why may I ask is some registry manager that I didn't download on the computer that is apparently necessary for removing SpyHunter? I searched for SpyHunter in it as per instructions, hit Enter(ditto) and nothing at all happened. No registry entries for SpyHunter came up. Revo claims that no such thing as SpyHunter has been installed on the computer. (couldn't... Read more

If anyone plays this game I need to know how to place an x in the navigation screen. I have done it hundreds of times but have been away from the game for some time and have forgotten the procedure. I have left-clicked, righ-clicked, and pressed every button on the keyboard with negative results.

I was wondering if Service Pack 3 has anything to do with it. The game is running fine but I am unable to mark positions for reference with the x.

I have been using this for a long time and suddenly when I press standby although the icon appears at the bottom of my screen when I press PrtScn to draw the area of the photograph I want to print the icon to do this doesn't appear.

The only thing I have done over the past two days is to accept updates of FireFox including those for TechGuy 3 - could this have caused the problem and if so how do I fix it?

Regards....Margaret Zanoni

Could someone please tell me what this is, I ran Trojan Hunter and found this, C:WINDOWS\bwUnin-6.1.0153.exe Warning Executable file with double extension found

A:Trojan Hunter found this

No idea. Rightclick that file, and choose 'properties'. Does that tell you more about its origins?

It could be a false alert, as there was no positive identification.
The fact that the file has a double extension doesn't make it a baddie in itself, although some viruses/worms do use that method of disguising themselves.

Try renaming the file to bwUnin-6.1.0153.bak, and see whether everything continues to work normally.

Hey guys I was just wondering whether TrojanHunter is a legitimate anti virus software because my Dad got it but I dont trust it. Also we keep on running out of space on C:\ even though we dont do anything. ???

A:trojan hunter legit?

Yes, Trojan Hunter is legit. Let's take a look at a HijackThis log to see what's going on.

If you have taken anything out of startups via msconfig please go to Start – Run – type in msconfig – click OK and click on the Startup tab. Click on Enable All then Apply and OK. Then please do the following:

Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hi, I uninstalled spy hunter and reboot my system and after that i received strange message to reboot you system, I done the same and i got same message! If i want to close that window another msg shows up that Do u really want to exit the installation Wizard? No.... Reboot Now!!!!!!!!!!!! What the hell going on with this spy Hunter :| Im Pissed . Windows 10 Here :\

A:Strange thing with spy Hunter!

Welcome to BC...
If you purchased Spyhunter be aware that Enima will charge you every 6 months the purchase price. Many users complain about that.
See Post #3 for more info.
Use Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware  to uninstall Spyhunter. Once you have done that do a search on your computer
for Enigma....delete the Enigma files that are found....if any.
Often a registry cleaner is installed, too. Look in your lists of installed programs for that.
If you were having a problem with adware or malware then I suggest you start a new topic in the Am I infected? What do I do?  Forum.

i have tried installing my dh5 game from my retail cd on my windows 10 pc but when i click install on the autoplay it does nothing and i have to end the task. i have tried comparability mode and run as admin but still nothing. i have also contacted atari and they said they no longer support the game.

i really want to play this game because i want to play the virtual season mode again and raise my own deer farm from year to year. do you know of any way. other possibilities i thot of are putting xp on another hdd and hooking it up by sata but it would be a pain to have to switch it all the time in the bios when i restart. would an external hdd be something i could try?

A:deer hunter 5 on windows 10?

You could install XP in a virtual machine perhaps as installing XP to external drive looks quite complicated (see How to install and boot Windows on an external (USB) hard drive).

This tutorial describes installing Windows 10 in VMWare - you could follow it but just install XP instead.

Hi & welcome,

Have you tried running the game in compatibilty mode from the desktop icon?

Right mouse on the icon, properties

Then select compatibiltiy

Now choose one of the options for compatibility

eg. XP SP2

If that doesn't work try another setting.

Post back how you get on? OK.
