Solved: RAM Updrage Question.

Q: Solved: RAM Updrage Question.

Hi everyone,

I run windows home on 2.0GHz and 1gig RAM. Lately, I decided to install another 1gig(to be 2 gigs RAM) to accommodate the current applications that I am using. I stumbled onto a site that is able to scan your system and specify the type and also predict the performance after the upgrade-- www.crucial.com.

Q1: Should I trust the scanner the site provides, and is it accurate "in case anyone has ever tried it"?
Q2: The type of RAM that the scanner found was Crucial DDR2 memory with support for 200pin SODIMM DDR2 PC2-5300or DDR2 PC2-4200 speeds. , I then started bidding at eBay on Samsung 2GB PC2-5300 DDR2-667 200pin SODIMM but I know that the former Samsung RAM is used with MacBook, will that be no good for PC?

I'd also like to know what do these mean and how do they differ SODIMM,PC2-5300,4200 speeds and finally
DDR2-667 or DDR2-533

Thanks you.

I need to know which version of RAM is best peformance, frequency and latency wise that will achieve the best performance possible from the DDR2 family.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I haven't been on windows 98 or 98SE alot so I was wondeing, If you put a Cd-writer (burner) in a computer with windows 98 or 98se (which I just did) why when ;you go to my computer and right click on the E dirve is there not a recording tab and other tabs like in windows xp, I know the answer will probably be------because your not using XP----------But I was wondering. The one I put in had NERO with it and I like NERO anyway however I would like to know for future purposes.

Why when you go to mycomputer and right click on the E drive (the burner) don't you have the recording tab and the rest like XP. I like doing it that way in XP where you can move all files or copy files and then go to the burner and say write these files to cd.

Does windows 98 or 98SE have this and I am just missing it or is a burning program like NERO or another the only way to use the burning in 98 or 98SE?

Thanks for the help

A:Solved: Windows 98 and/or 98SE-question about burning CDs, is there a record tab etc-Question

lol, you answered your own question, windows 95,98,98se,and ME don't support cd burning, except with 3rd party software. When you purchase any of the NT systems (ie: xp, NT 4, Server 2003, 2000 PRO etc...) all have the NT kernel which if you look during your install say " Windows (whatever version) is built on NT technology" and "You now have built in CD burning" soon and perhaps with the upcoming service pack 2, it will start coming with DVD burning capability.

I believe the only windows kernel out that currently supports cd burning is the NT one

I just wanted to know if I could do the following with no problem or if you cannot do it this way.

There is a windows 98 computer upstairs (with DSL) There is a modem--then a router---the windows 98 computer, I think he has the windows 98 computer upstairs hooked into the router and then another line in the router running downstairs to a windows XP SP1 computer. they both work fine. Here is my question.

He wants to add a third computer downstairs,so can it be like
THe modem then router then the windows 98 computer upstairs hooked into the router. Now is it possible to then plug like a four port hub into the router and have the line running downstairs and then take the windows xp that is already down there and plug it into the hub and then the new computer plug it into the hub and they would all have the dsl just like the two of them do now,

I guess I am asking can you plug the one compute upstairs into the router and then run a cable downstairs into a hub and plug the other two computers into the hub and they will all get DSL?

or do you have to plug the upstairs computer into the router like now and then plug two morre lines into the router and run them both downstairs and run one to each computer?

And as long as everything is going throught the router no matter which way it is done do you have to run anything special to get the DSL on all? Some step by step instructions would be nice but I really want to know if the hub thing will work the way I am describing it. Thanks... Read more

Today I changed over my hard drive from a 60 Gig to 80 Gig, Warranty work because the HD was noisy. I used the Maxtor program to copy one drive to the other. Now I can not get into system restore. If I try it just hangs up on that tab. Example: If I try and get to system restore by right clicking my computer is hangs after I hit the restore tab/and if I try through programs/system tools it hangs as soon as I click on system restore. By hanging I mean that that screen stays on the desk top until I reboot the system. (Note at no time is system restore showing in task manager) I'm wondering
1. If the change in HD size has anything to do with this.
2. Is there a manual way of turning off system restore so I can delete and old restore points and start over?

Yes, however I must warn you that Windows XP SP2 had problems recognizing some SDHC cards.

If you have SP2 and cannot upgrade, you will need to install the following hotfixes below to add support for the new SDHC memory cards. Otherwise if you are using Windows XP SP3 you are fine because the fixes below are included in its release.

I am using php4 and php5.

To hide the actual variable information I am using gzcompress and base64_encode to create a string that is passed for the variable.

Doing this I get a string that may have special characters in it like a +, /, etc. I pass them to my script and use the $_GET to receive them. When I receive them the special characters are turned into blanks.

Ex. script.php?var=eJwrSiotSc5ILXIwLAbS+nJqU
$_GET['var'] = eJwrSiotSc5ILXIwLAbS nJqU

I have also tired to use the + to replace the + but get the same result.

Any idea how I can get around this?

A:Solved: PHP question

try POST-ing the request instead, and using the $_POST array to retrieve the string. i could well be that the browser is parsing and eliminating the odd characters before sending the string.

Hey guys,

So my 5 year old computer was having trouble today. I personally don't use it but its for my guests and stuff. But I wanted to use it today just to see if any upgrades that have to be done and I tried to turn on the computer. What happened was it booted up and quickly showed me my graphics card specs and shut down. I was wondering to myself why this happen so I did some research and came upon the conclusion it was with the PSU. I took out the psu and jump started and the fan on it spun but when I put back into case, same thing happened. Could you guys just confirm it's the psu because I'm going to buy it a psu soon if thats the case. I think this has happened because one of the guests at my house didn't know how to turn off the computer and every night they pressed the power up button to turn it off. I think this has caused some sort of electrical issue with the psu (maybe shorted out psu or something). So this is an issue with the psu, right? It is a 5 year old computer and the PSU is a stock psu so it has worked great but I knew sometime the stock psu was gonna have some trouble and that day has came after 5 years.

Thanks anyways

There is a tool at work that I'm working on that runs on NT.
There are multiple components to this machine, not all of the same manufacturer, that are tied together with VisualWorks and Windows NT.
Recently we had a hard drive issue, sent the drive out to data recovery, when it came back, a newer version of the main tool software was installed.
We were told, the new software ( actually a copy from another tool at another site ) may require IP changes since the tool it came from was slightly different than ours.
How or what can I check?
I'm guessing I should see a difference in the number of components the system sees.
But how do I check the IP addresses and hosts etc....is there a way?

I have 364 matrices of data which totals up to about 190,000 peices of data. Trying to search the whole data easily freezes the browser, so i divided it by starting letter and length, into 364 arrays.

My goal is to compare each relevant peice of data to the letters entered by the user and print out all anagrams.

I looked into multiple dimension arrays which i have never used before, and i decided that i needed a 3-dimensional array of data.

In the code below i attempt to define it. I included the whole script as ive drafted it thus far.

If you have any experience with this, your comments are appreciated as i really dont know whether or not it will work, or if i am doing it properly, or what to expect, and i have only done a small part of the code so i would like to know its going to work before i complete it.

Thanks kindly to anyone who takes a look and can help me make it work/more efficent.

One note, i am converting letters to bytes somewhat simulating java's byte-char system so i can search the array. Thus A = 65, for example.
Code:
function onload()
{
A2=new Array();
A2=a2.split(' ');
A3=new Array();
A3=a3.split(' ');
A4=new Array();
A4=a4.split(' ');
A5=new Array();
A5=a5.split(' ');
A6=new Array();
A6=a6.split(' ');
A7=new Array();
A7=a7.split(' ');
A8=new Array();
A8=a8.split(' ');
A9=new Array();
A9=a9.split(' ');

Okay. Just so you all know, i was completely off track. That was much too simple an approach!

What i ended up having to do is create a 2-dimensional matrix which catagorized by STARTING LETTER and by LENGTH, which i had my data already divided into.

Each entry in the array was a large string that was split into a seperate array when it was to be used.

Hello Everyone!
Okay this is my problem I have been having for the last couple of days.

I am using a 9200 Dell Inspiron Laptop. The SOUND has just stopped out of the blue. 3 nights ago I was listing to some MP3s right up to bed time. I was not pushing the speakers or anything and it sounded like it always does, no cut outs or anything.
The next morning I loaded up the computer and bing, no sound. I have ran chkdsk several times in the cmd promt and each time it found new errors so I kept following up with chkdsk/f until no more errors were found.
I have checked every thing that I can think of as far as <b>I</b> know that would be related to the Audio.
The Volume NOT muted. I have checked the Audio device in Hardware Devices and Everything is running properly. I have went into msconfig and checked the box to load up all <i>services, programs, & drivers</I> and that is not the issue either. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the sound drivers, downloaded new drivers and installed them but that hasn’t brought back Sound either. One time when I started up the PC I heard a <I>partial</I> windows sound right as windows booted up and that was it. Do you think my speakers are dead? WTF. I am out of suggestions.
I have not tried the headphones port, I suppose I should.
Any help with this IS greatly appreciated!

In our local paper there was a story about a man and his wife who went through hell when a hacker had stored illegal images on his computer without him knowing. It wound up costing him his job and lost everything with legal fees of $250,000. The reason for the story was that he was arrested and later proved by his legal team that he had no knowledge of those images being there and they proved it was a hacker. The article also stated it wasn't uncommon for them to slip stuff on others computer without their knowledge then access it.
My question is is there a way to do a search for any and all pictures that may be on your computer to make sure the same hasn't happened? I know not long ago I was locked out of Admin privileges and had to completely redo back to the beginning .

However, when I look under the graphic card settings useing the nVidia software, it says that the AGP bus for my machine (it is older) is 2X. Would it be better for me to return this card and get the PCI version of the card?

I bought it so that I could play The Sims 2. But when I try to start the game, it freezes before the game even starts, at the EA Games logo. I am wondering if it is because I don't have an 8X AGP port.

Thanks,
JD

how can i tell if the cpu i have is slot1 or socket?
i have the box right here in front of me, the cpu too.

A:[SOLVED] cpu question

A slot 1 CPU has a set of contacts like a piece of memory. A socket is on the motherboard with holes in it for the pins on the CPU to fit into.

I am transferring some files between an external Hard Drive and a Vista notebook. The transfer speed is said to be at 480mb/s.... and I believe the speed for me to send data from my computer there and back is 240mb/s each way. However... currently, my maximum speed I have gotten is 10mb/s... why is this? All my ports are USB 2.0...
