hijacked: sending email that I'm not sending

Q: hijacked: sending email that I'm not sending

My antivirus software is showing that I'm sending email that I'm not sending! I don't even know where it is sending from. And it is yucky SPAM headlines that it looks like it is sending. I use AVAST anitvirus. I'm on a wireless laptop running xp home. Microsoft outlook express and hotmail and gmail are the email accounts that I use.

What to do?

Preferred Solution: hijacked: sending email that I'm not sending

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I use Outlook for email, from Office 2007 Professional because the accounting program and my Palm Pro PDA likes it.

Just recently I have had a couple of complaints that emails with a video attached I have forwarded have been delivered to the addressee in excess of 30 or 40 times.

The latest was last night when one of my sons said he had received it 104 times, and another friend in the USA 99 times, needless to say both aren't happy, the video was a wmv (3mb).

When my son called me a an hour or so later it was still in my outgoing mail box, obviously because it was still sending.

I have run full AV scan using Esset Nod32 which came up clean, so I’m at a loss where else the problem is or where/what to look for.

Thanks for reading…..Any clues/help would be appreciated.

Hi Guys 'n Gals

Newbie from South Africa and like most I have to kick off my first post with a problem.

I am running a 6 PC peer to peer network at work with one person in particular who pays no attention to the dangers out there especially when it comes to e-mail attachments.

Since coming back from our Seasonal vacations our e-mail accounts are being blocked by our ISP due to a suspected mailbot with this error message:-

"Sending' reported error (0x800CCC67) : ' The server responded: 421 4.0.0 Intrusion prevention active for []'"

I have on one PC run 'Malwarebytes Anti-Malware', SuperAntispyware, ExterminateIT and Combofix' I want to add that your instructions for running Combofix were a great help as I rate myself as "mid stream computer literate."

Anyway the problem disappeared for one day and promptly returned this morning and would appreciate any help in identifying the infected PC and clearing the infection, and will the cleaning last long enough for me to clear the other machines 1 day at a time?

5 of the PCs are running 'AVG free' and 1 is running Avira Pro. (I think - bosses laptop and I don't have access at the moment)

Any help will be appreciated.

Greetings and Welcome to The Forums!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems. I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.

Good day everyone,
Here I come once again with a pretty new PC already infected without viruses being detected!
My PC is sending spam and my network sometimes shows I am active around the clock which is not the case. My social networks have literally gone insane by constantly adding and deleting people (not followers, contacts). Whenever I click to see connections on LinkedIn or try to change my password, I get: "Access to www.linkedin.com was denied You don't have authorization to view this page. HTTP ERROR 403" This is happening more than a week. I've contacted them privately and there seems to be no technical issue. Microsoft and Google have already notified me that my mail has been signaled for sending spam and this is when I simply decided to search for it online and to my great surprise it appeared bellow MY project but linked with the details of s.b. else in China. Since Fr authorities DID NOTHING, I HAVE already paid twice for the false data to be removed and for my personal email to be exchanged with the professional one but NOTHING ever since! So, on my hosting provider the domain name is well accredited to be mine and is still with the right data, but HOW it appears with wrong on Who Is I get totally lost!
The whole pack of coincidences indicates me that I am being sophistically hijacked, but how to FIND what's happening since Norton and Malware remain in silence?
Thank you in advance for your cooperation!
Best regards,

Intermittently, Outlook 2007 will crash while sending an email and, needless to say, the email is not sent. However I wanted to know if there is a temp or backup copy of that mail anywhere. I've looked in drafts and it's not there.

I've sometimes typed a very long email and then lost the whole email when Outlook crashes so I just wanted to know if, like Word, there is a temp file that may be created.

i have been trying to fix my email/outlook spam issue.  emails are going out WITH my actual email address, sending emails to people in my contacts, etc.
I also have been getting a ton of spam emails myself.
I use:
-Windows 7 Pro

-Outlook 2010
-I have our own domain name email address, that is hosted by Frontier
Odd thing:  I changed my password for my email, but my outlook kept sending/receiving with the old password.
When I tried to update  the new password in outlook (which I verified by using the webmail versus outlook), it would not accept it.
Thank you for any help you can provide.

Hi, and welcome to the board.

- First, set Windows 98 to display three-letter file extensions: Open My Computer, choose View, Folder Options and click the View tab. Deselect the checkmark next to "Hide file extensions for known filetypes." Click OK.

- Click Start, Run, type sendto, and click OK. Windows will open a window titled SendTo.

- Right-click in the SendTo window and select New, Text Document.
Rename the file to Mail Recipient.MAPIMail (copy this exactly).
Close the SendTo window.

Good luck,

I am having a problem sending email to an AOL address via outlook 2002. I can send to the address using my webmail portal and my yahoo, but not through my outlook. all other emails go out properly.

any ideas?

A:sending email to AOL

Hi, AOL email never did work with Outlook Express, I am not sure about Microsoft Outlook that comes with Office, if that is the Outlook you are meaning....

AOL users could not send mail nor get mail through OE, at least back a few years ago they could not, and if AOL was the service provider....there were some utilities that claimed to circumvent this, but I have not used them, and it seemed difficult to install and set these up, I did not bother with it at all.
(Things might be different with AOL mail these days.)
If you typed up a new mail in OE, and tried to send it, you would get an error message...of course, since there usually would have not been any account set up for POP3 mail in or out, no servers to connect to, and since AOL used different types of mail service, no way to get mail into OE.

Getting a Gmail account, free, might be a quicker solution, Gmail is simply great.

You should check out this: Description of Google's Gmail, how it works, privacy, etc...

And also> , take a look at this, it may be the easiest way to do it>

You do still I think have to be invited to Gmail, so if you know someone who has it, they should have invitations to spare...if you want to try it, let us know, I have invitations.

Hi again chasf.
Most ISP limit the size of an attachment to 5mb but your link with your server will normally time out way before you reach this.

Does anyone know of a way to turn off the email address in the BCC section of Vista email and show only the names? In XP Windows Express, it only showed the names with a semi-colon between names. I've just gotten my new computer (Vista 64 bit) set up with email contacts. When I send BCCs, it lists the name and the email addresses which makes that section very long.

A:Sending BCC email

Hi, What i have done to aleviate this problem is when adding contacts to the address book, i have listed a display name. So when sending an email it will only display what you have listed. You can edit the contact in address book by selecting the person, right click, properties, it then will enable you to edit this.

Hope this helped

In Outlook Express, you can set it up to do that, but I don't think Outlook will let you. With O/E, there's a choice somewhere in the Options that says "Do not send mail immediately," but I found no such feature in Outlook.

I worked for a company where I did account and billing and tech support remotely for applecare customers. I had terrible security concerns and feel like I was being impersonated as an employee and my network had been hacked. My computer crashed and I was able to send an email to anyone in my company without a problem on my personal computer but when the only person who could help me was my boss and when I tried reaching out to her this is what I got back and could never reach her and was offline for almost an hr

A:Anyone seen this when sending an email ?

This is just a way of preventing/blocking spam or other intrusive email by creating rules in your email client.Sometimes the rules can be pretty strict and they may not know just how strict they set them. They probably didnt do it on purpose.

Hi there

what email client are you using on both systems, also remember network connections and are you running from SAME computer.

Linux networking in general is superior to Windows but if you are using a decent email client it shouldn't make a huge amount of difference.

Other factors -- what "pre-scans" etc are done by the email client (virus / attachment checking etc), are both set up to use imap / pop3 or going through an Ms Exchange server. Loads of things you need to compare when doing this type of analysis.

Any webmail based client is likely to be hideously slow though when compared with a proper email client on whatever system.

Previously i was helped with code to send a static email through outlook express. Which work perfectly in my home network but when I took it to my work network I could not get the emails to send. Here is the code that worked at my network at home:
Public Sub Email()

Dim iMsg As Object
Dim iConf As Object
Dim WBname As String
Set iMsg = CreateObject("CDO.Message")
Set iConf = CreateObject("CDO.Configuration")

With iMsg
Set .Configuration = iConf
.To = "[email protected]"
.CC = ""
.BCC = ""
.From = """test"" <[email protected]>"
.Subject = "test"
.TextBody = "message"
.AddAttachment ""
End With

End Sub
The only major difference that is obvious, is the email at the office requires SPA where as my home network does not. Any thoughts Would be great!

Hey all,

I keep getting e-mails from various places saying that I sent them an e-mail with the "sobig" virus. Problem is, I'm not sending anything. I've downloaded all the patches that I know of, Norton Anti-Virus runs every night and doesn't find anything. Does this mean I have the virus but Norton doesn't find it? Why is my email sending things to people I don't even know? How can I make it stop?

Hi all, First post here, here goes.PC/Network EnvironmentI have a laptop running Windows XP SP2 which connects to my work network (wired) and to a wireless network (now wired as wireless router has died) at home (1 internet gateway pc, 1 laptop and 1 desktop connected to that network). The laptop is installed with Symantec Antivirus Corporate which is managed by my work domain/server.While at work we are behind a firewall (server based) but I am not running a firewall on any of the pc's connected to the home network (silly me I know). The ProblemsAbout a week ago my pc all of a sudden started sending out spam when connected to my wireless home network, I knew this was happening as Symantec was monitoring outgoing email and was reporting send failures due to spam every few seconds. I ran a total antivirus scan through Symantec while disconnected from the network and cleaned out what was found and the problem appeared to be over. However, a week or so later and it started again (again when connected to the home network). This time I performed an Ad Aware scan, followed by a Panda ActiveScan Pro scan and another Symantec Antirus scan. Once all issues appeared to be under control I then installed the Sygate Personal Firewall to monitor any future outbound traffic just in case the problem hadn't been eradicated... it hadn't.Now with the firewall runnign all of a sudden I see traffic going to virtuoz.info from svchost.exe and everynow and then to other strange addresses/I... I'm being attacked by hackers lately....twice in the last week on two different laptops.

My firewall program (Zone Alarm) notified me that an attemp to modify my registry and add two programs called <nexom.exe> and <princo.exe> I told ZA to block both changes but they were installed anyway and show up in my WINNT/system32 folder. shortly afterward Norton Antivirus started popup up numerous windows telling me it was scanning outgoing emails with titles that are obviously spam.

I cannot remove these two files ...or fix them ...with with NAV...or by using the cmd prompt and dos command "delete". Norton antivirus says it also cannot remove them. I WAS successful in renaming the files to <nexom.exo> and <princo.exo>

I created a email distribution list from my AOL account and some of the folks from the list are receiving the following email, sometimes several times in the same day. The list is legitimate, the subject line is legitimate but the message is not one that I sent nor does it show up in my sent file. How do I stop this from happening?

Dear Sir/Madam,

Your email was unable reach the intended person that you were sending it to.
For more information on our business please click on the following link:

We look forward to your continued business in the future.

As background, please know that my PC had lots of viruses on it (including the unfixable virut virus) and just this week I had it erased and then reloaded with Windows XP operating system. I also installed the ESET NOD32 Antivirus program that runs constantly. I found out about the fake emails yesterday, came home changed my password to the account but this morning one of the folks on the distribution list told me they got 7 emails like the one above.

I could not find on AOL a way to fix or report this problem. I would appreciate anyone's help. Thanks!

A:AOL account hijacked and sending false emails

Your e-mail address was likely compromised. There are only two possibilities of getting this fixed: 1) See if your e-mail provider will change your user name for you while keeping the account itself or 2) If they refuse, create a new e-mail account and close the present one.

Good morning, people,

One of my users here is having a wierd issue with her Outlook program...Every time she sends an email out, a .txt file of that email is sent as an attachment to that email.

So an email saying, "Greetings!", has the text file attached that says, "Greetings!".

Any ideas?

Turn off one or the other in the E-mail options, would be my guess.

A:problems sending email

all you need to send an email is the address

ie: [email protected]

if you're getting an error message in a return email from the server, then:
the address is wrong
your ISP may be blocked
the person's inbnox may be full
thing's like that

what's the reply say, ie the error message?
(edit out any identifying information, just the mailer daemon info)

Hi - I did post this (can't find it and no new posts logged to me) last week so please forgive me if this is a repeat.

I am receiving unwanted emails which mostly go into the junk folder and I delete. Some still come through to my inbox so must be a different address and I put them on the Block Sender list. But I have unauthorised emails being sent from some of them which get returned as spam.

I don't know how to stop the unauthorised sending and if possible - how do I stop the rubbish? I am using McAfee antivirus on all devices.

Thanks for your time.

Hi got a new email address after setting up a Broadband account (not connected yet)

After putting in all the account details I was able to receive but not send, keep getting this msg .........

Just wondered if anyone have any thoughts whilst I wait for the isp to get back ?

A:Problem sending with new email ?

As a general rule you can only send mails through an isp's mail server if you are connected to that ISP. At the moment you are still connecting though your old dialup isp but trying to send through your broadband mail server. This is known as mail relaying, and like the message says, it ain't allowed, otherwise spammers would have a field day.
As a work around, you can either just use the other email account and wait for the bb to get connected, or change the mail server in OE to your old isp. To do this go to Tools, accounts, and mail, highlight the new email account and click properties, click on servers, and change the outgoing mail to your current ISPs (you can find out what this is by looking in the settings for the other email account). Of couorse you will need to change it back once you are connecting to the bb
When you change to bb you will get a similar message when trying to send through your old email account, so you will need to change the outgoing mail server in the old account to your new ISPs.

Hope this helps

I have a Yahoo email account and a Cox (Internet Provider) email account. I send & receive a great deal of emails from both. However, I frequently am told that an email I sent did not reach the recipient (from both accounts) + I frequently am asked, "Did you receive my email?" To which I reply, "No." None of my sent messages that do not arrive at their destination are returned or bounced back. They are just "out there" somewhere.

Of course, if someone sends me an email that I don't receive, I don't usually know it. Alternately, if I send one that does not arrive at its destination, I usually don't know that either.

Since I do receive & successfully send so many emails, why are some not being processed properly? At the suggestion of Cox, I uninstalled Zone Alarm & changed from Outlook Express to Incredimail. Neither made any difference. The emails that I do not receive are not always from the same person, & in fact, I might receive one email from a particular individual, but not receive the next one that same person sends. The same applies when I send an email.

Please help!

A:Sending & Receiving email

It would take a book to describe everything. We don't even know what OS and service packs, if any, you have?

Since you send "many" maybe your emails are being "received" as spam by various ISPs and thrown out before the recipient gets them. Maybe the settings on their computers are preventing them from being received. Do you send in Text Only Mode? Are there files embedded? Attachments?

Check all settings in your anti-virus and firewall. Turn off anything that is specifically for scanning email.

If you want to pursue this, you would have to provide detailed information about specific instances. That would include knowing exactly what the sender is using for emails and other programs that might malfunction.
