Q: X230 Ultranav Trackpoint not scrolling with middle...

Hello there, I have an issue with UltraNav TrackPoint while trying to scroll using the middle button. It seems Windows 10 are ignoring the middle button completely. Ive tryied the solution I found here with the registry, but with no luck. I remember the scrolling worked only for like two days after I purchased this repassed X230 tablet. After all the automatic Windows updates it stopped working. I tried uninstalling the driver and downloading fresh lenovo new one, but nothing... can someone here please help me? This issue is really annoying, otherwise I love the X230 tablet!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I'm using the ultranav middle button to scroll (I live for this feature which is why I've been buying thinkpads since time immemorial) However, on the t460, scolling with the middle button/nubbin is painfully slow in Word 2007, and Adobe Acrobat/Reader is a nightmare. In Word its just slow and you have to use a lot of pressure on the nubbin (there appears to be no setting to change this). In Acrobat, it's agonizingly slow (in both Reader and Pro) and will "stick" on if you try to go to fast and just scrolling for multiple seconds after you release the button.  Stragely, the trackpad scrolling works fine in Word, though it is still bad in Acrobat.  In addition, the middle button scrolling will frequently slip and stop scrolling, sending the pointer to the bottom of the page.  Nubbin/middle button scrolling works (oddly) extremely well in Microsoft Edge... Please help! Middle button scrollig with the nubbin is the best feature on these machines.  Using: T460 Windows 10 64-bit with the latest drivers.

I just want to report that the newest touchpad driver brakes native windows middle-click scrolling. What I'm talking is this:1. Swich off all advanced features in the TouchPoint setting to get back a middle button. BTW, how on earth it is possible that the default setting "steals" the middle button. Going for the Nr. 1. PC maker and forgetting a stupid default settings in a Synaptics driver is a joke.  2. Now, try scrolling in any native windows application like Chrome, Firefox, etc. The quick way of scrolling is to push the middle button while scrolling. It had always worked before. Now this way is broken. Now, the only way for scrolling is to the:1. push middle button to enter scolling mode2. move mouse3. push again to exit scrolling mode This scolling mode has never been a good way to scroll, but the quick way is broken with the latest driver. I'm using a W520 with Windows 7, 64-bit. Broken driver: Version 16.2.5.0

I have a similar problem as the OP: after today's update, my Touchpad is not functioning properly anymore. Scrolling of any sort on the Touchpad seems to have been disabled. As I do not have a mouse attached, I am forced to use the Trackpoint set's middle button and then move my cursor around to scroll. I checked my Control Panel settings and both two-finger and single-finger Touchpad scrolling are enabled via the settings. Also I don't know if this is relevant, but it seems like the option to double-tap to bring up Lenovo SimpleTap has also randomly been disabled... W530, Windows 7 x64.

Hello, Is there a way to have both - scrolling with trackpoint while holding the middle mouse button - and - being able do a middle click with the middle mouse button? I can accomplish this easily under Linux like it is described here. But under Windows it seems to be impossible. I can only have either middle clicking or trackpoint scrolling. I need both.  If anyone knows a solution to this please let me know. Walter (I have a X200s and Windows 7 x64 installed)

Yeah, this is easy in Linux can't we get some pressure to actually get this implemented properly in windows. Useability is the main reason i got a thinkpad it would be nice to know we could actually influence it in some way. (Bumping an old topic here)

Hi Lenovo, Currently the Trackpoint's middle button can only do either scrolling or middle mouse button click in Windows. This behavior can be set in lenovo vantage or mouse settings. Could you provide option to enable both scrolling and middle mouse click functions at same time? In linux this is already supported out of the box for a long time. The only workaround in windows is by using third party software called TPMiddle, but this software only works with Synaptics trackpoint, it doesn't work with Elan or ALPS trackpoint.

Yes, there was a post several years ago describing this same issue which was supposedly fixed with an update of the Synaptics driver.  However, I am seeing this issue again on my X270 Windows 10 x64 Pro with latest driver version 19.3.4.219. If I set the mouse pointer size to something larger than default "1" it stays at the larger size until I use the trackpoint middle button to scroll.  the pointer then shrinks back down to size "1".  Just as with the previous report of this issue if I set the middle button function to "click" rather than "scroll" the pointer retains its larger size.  I constantly use trackpoint scrolling so that is not really a fix for me. Has anyone else seen this issue recently and perhaps found a fix that allows continued use of trackpoint scrolling with a larger pointer? Thanks.

Hi Everyone, A couple days ago I noticed that my middle mouse button which I use for scrolling started to activate the Context Menu (aka anytime you right-click, a menu pops up). Then I noticed that my right-button will also activate scrolling as well. Is this a hardware issue? I've already tried reinstalling the drivers and played around with the settings to no avail!  Anyone experience a similar issue? Cheers,

This topic has been an ongoing problem with the Driver, etc., etc., etc. for 10 years + or -. I have four X120e Thinkpads with Windows 10 v1909 installed on each one. They appear to have almost exactly the same Synaptics software installed. They definitely show exactly the same devices in Device Manager and yet two of the Thinkpads have the UltraNav tab  on the Control Panel/Mouse control and two of them do not have the tab. I have been chasing old posts (such as 2011, 2015, etc. for more than two days now with no working solution. Can anyone please help me out?

I have an IBM T40 laptop. I have been having problems with the mouse properties. I opened up the advanced properties for the mouse and selected the UltraNav tab. I keep selecting the "Standard Scroll" option but it never stays. It keeps doing the smooth scrolling. For some reason, after my laptop has been on for a while, I can get the standard scroll option to stay. But then after a while longer it reverts back by itself. It usually happens when something disrupts my wireless internet connection. I have downloaded all the latest drivers that I could find from the IBM website. What is messing this up?

Hi all, I'm running into any issue with my Lenovo T470 20HD where the 3 Trackpoint buttons (Left, Middle, Right) are all performing the same action (Scroll and Right-Click). As one can imagine, this is very frustrating! I simply want the Left button to function like a left-click and the Right to function like a right-click; normal behavior.  The picture below shows the buttons I am referring to:           I have checked my UltraNav settings under the mouse properties, however I only have 2 options: Right-Click and Scroll. I have tried uninstalling and removing the driver. Reinstalling from Lenovo's website, with no luck. I have also update the BIOS to the latest version. I tried disabling and re-enabling TrackPoint in the BIOS with no luck.             I am running the latest version of Windows:    Any help would be apprecaited!

However now the mouse buttons for the trackpoint are not working. The trackpad and the trackpoint itself along with the rest of the board work "flawlessly" but not the three buttons for the trackpoint. I'v tried removing and reinstalling the Synaptic drivers, both the newest version and an older one recomended on a different forum. I have triple double checked the board connection is firmly attached and that all the settings in both BIOS and the synaptic panel are set as normal but still no luck. Hello community I have this old  thinkpad, which i am very fond of. However, recently the touchpad and trackpoint are acting up.Both right-buttons have stopped working. If i right click on the desktop, nothing happens - until i left-click... then the context-menu keeps popping up until i click on something else. Eventually both left buttons also stop working. I then have to press ctrl alt del and move the mouse over the on-screen-buttons initially they do not respond. after a while they become active again. Then the left button works for a little while until it starts over again... have tried updating drivers, removing the touchpad and trackpoint,  reinstalling windows 10 and flashing newest BIOS without any improvement. External mouse works flawlessly,,, Suggestions are most appreciated :-) Thanks, Kasper, Denmark

Hi,

On my X1Y3 it started about a month ago.  Bascially after anywhere from 5-30 minutes of the computer turning on my trackpoint icon gets stuck with the middle scrolling point icon anytime im in a text field.  It acts like the middle track point buttoin is depressed even when its not.  see below picture circled in yellow.  This is not related to a specific browser.  It happens in Chrome, IE and Edge.  Synaptics driver version 19.3.4.224.  I updated to the current driver about 3 weeks ago when this problem 1st started.  It happened on the prior driver too.

One of the more persistent (of several) problems plaguing my P50 (20EN) is the spastic, herky-jerky scrolling when using the TrackPoint with middle button. This is far and away the worst trackpoint I have ever used, and I've used a lot of trackpoints over the last 20 years. There are only two TrackPoint settings on this machine, and neither is relevant to this issue:? The 'ThinkPad' tab in the Windows 10 'Mouse Properties' panel has a checkbox to enable and disable TrackPoint globally and radio buttons to select the middle button function.? The Synaptics Control Panel has a slider for controlling the TrackPoint scrolling speed. TrackPoint has always stood out on my list of reasons for buying ThinkPads in the first place, so this is issue particularly poignant for me, and, frankly, I'm close to my wit's end on this one. Please, someone tell me there exists a solution.

Hi guys,my X250 laptop just got a factory repair, in wich they reset the whole system. Now I have a problem: When I try to scroll using my trackpoint and the scrolling button, it only works in some instances. I can scroll on websites in Firefox, but in lists it doesn't work anymore. Lists like my settings or the file explorer. That is pretty annoying. I guess it has something to do with the mouse being on a linked item. As the problem also appears in Firefox as long as my curser is over a clickable item wich contains a link. On items that are clickable, but don't "contain a link" in the sense that by right clicking it gives me options like "open link in another tab", scrolling still seems to work. That theory kind of contradicts that, in the file explorer, it doesn't seem to make any difference wether or not the curser is over something clickable or not. I think I have another clue: I am not sure about this, but I think the symbol that appears by the curser while using the scrolling key also changed. Advice would be greatly appreciated,David

Hello everyone, I searched a bit both these forums and others but haven't found the solution to this problem I'm experiencing. I recently bought a used T430 and I've been using it for the last couple of days, trying to get used to trackpoint and all. I performed a clean windows install and installed a Win 10 education my university provides. I followed the advice on Lenovo webpage about letting Windows update do its thing first and then run the Lenovo System Update utility to update drivers as necessary. Everything's working nicely other than some issues with the trackpoint buttons (the 3 buttons just below the space bar are called the trackpoint buttons I guess?)  Anyway, the issue is that before I did a fresh install, the middle button when pushed entered the scroll mode which then let me scroll using the trackpoint. Now it still enters the scroll mode but also does a right-click when I let go. This leads to an issue where a right-click is performed at every scroll step(if that makes sense) which leads to wonky scrolling. One other issue is that the right button does nothing at all. I expected the middle button to only have scroll functionality and the right button to simply right-click.  Things I've tried so far: - Manually removed the pointer device and ran Lenovo system update again to update the UltraNav drive, and also disabled auto-driver installation of windows update. The driver version installed by System Update is 19.0.17.115.&nb... Read more

The settings for the Microsoft Precision Touchpad on my T470s include the option to reverse the normalling scrolling direction, called "natural scrolling".However, I do not see a similar option to do so for scrolling using the Trackpoint: I have gotten used to reverse-scrolling or "natural scrolling" thanks to my iOS devices, the option to reverse in Windows, and it messes with me when I have to think about it when using the Trackpoint. Is there a way to reverse the scrolling, perhaps via a registry key? Before Windows 10 introduced the feature for trackpads and mice, there was a way to enable reverse scrolling via scripting. I may have to try that for this. Should we ask Lenovo to include this optionin a driver update for Trackpoint devices?

A:Reverse scrolling direction when using Trackpoint

I can report that installing AutoHotkey and then using the following script: WheelUp::Send {WheelDown}ReturnWheelDown::Send {WheelUp}Return You can effectively reverse the scrolling direction on the Trackpoint. Install AutoHotkey and save the above as AutoHotkey.ahk in your Documents folder or where you install AutoHotkey. I would still prefer to have the option in the driver though.

When scrolling with the trackpoint, I find that the pages don't roll as smooth as the older Thinkpads did. My T410 scrolls much more smoothly than my X250, and I'm thinking that it is a driver issue. I have the latest Synaptics driver, which would be 18.1.27.14. I've tried rolling back the drivers, and it still doesn't improve the scrolling issue. Did anyone else experience this problem? Has anyone fixed it? Also, as an aside, I've found that I could not play FPS games with trackpoint. The left and right buttons don't click immediately after typing. I always get killed right after sprinting because I'm standing there, unable to shoot. Other than that, the trackpoint is suprisingly easy to use for games.

My question concerns middle-button-scrolling for the Trackpoint on the Yoga 260, which seems to use an Elantech device and driver. Last night (4/6/2017) an automatic Windows update just now decided to install the most recent Synaptics driver (titled Synaptics - Mouse - 1/11/2017 12:00:00 AM - 19.3.4.66), which apparently is nearly 3 months old at this point.  One thing this update seems to have fixed is an issue I?ve been having with my ThinkPads for upwards of 7 years ? randomly it resets my mouse wheel 'number of lines scrolled per notch' option back to 1 (I prefer 3) pretty much daily, which is a HUGE annoyance, so I?m very grateful for this update and I?d like to keep it. However, it also completely disabled middle click scrolling with my TrackPoint (yes, I have ?Use for scrolling? checked under the TrackPoint settings).  The middle button does nothing now, unless I check ?Use as middle click?.  Rolling back the Synaptics driver to the previous one fixes this issue. Confoundingly, the TrackPoint scrolling with my ThinkPad Bluetooth keyboard still works fine. For years this icon, called "scrolling icon", has appeared on the middle-button click on TrackPad buttons ? providing for a useful visual feedback:  For some reason, this has been removed on X1 Extreme Synaptics driver. Until November 2018 I have successfully managed to install Synaptics 19.3.4.201 on X1 Extreme so as to get a proper Control Panel management for Synaptics instead of an awkward Windows Universal App AND a scrolling icon working, too. This driver 19.3.x.x (not only 201, but all other consequitve version) has stopped working after certain BIOS and Synaptics Firmware upgrade: installing 19.3.x.x instead of 19.5.19.33 gives TrackPoint and TouchPad halt since November 2018. There is a registry key which allows to turn OFF the scrolling icon on drivers 19.3.x.x: https://superuser.com/questions/473325/disable-scrolling-icon . It does NOT help to turn it ON for 19.5.x.x. Any help on either getting the icon back or installing the 19.3.x.x drivers would be awesome. The latter would be more preferrable as I have trying out older drivers in a hope of getting rid of Trackpoint drift ? unsucessfully and only until they've broken 19.3.x.x drivers to work on X1 Extreme.

A:T61 ultranav not working

Hi Yakoov,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As I understand that you are facing issue with Track point which is not working in your T61 system
So, verify that the internal TrackPoint is Enabled in BIOS
BIOS Instructions:
Power on your ThinkPad
Press F1 to enter System Setup
Select Config, then Keyboard/Mouse
Verify that TrackPoint and TouchPad are both set to Enabled
Press F10 to save and exit, press enter to select yes to Save configuration  changes and exit now
I hope the above information helps.
Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

Regards,
Prabhansh

Hi. I have a Dell Inspiron 14. 2Gb Memory Core2Duo.

I can;t scroll Sideways but I can going up and down.

Thanks in advance.

A:Dell Touchpad not scrolling Sideways. But scrolling Up & Down

On both my Acer aspire one netbook (synaptics) and my Lenovo notebook (alps) I need to tab twice on the lower edge of the touchpad (to gain its attention?!?) and then it will scroll. Beyond that I believe you need to take a walk on the Dell support web site. There are number of 14xx models so you need to follow the steps there to find the freshest driver for your particular model. On both of mine the newest drivers have given scrolling as well as "pinching" to re-size pages, photos etc.

Do you have the latest driver downloaded and installed from the Lenovo site?

What is the version and source of your current driver?

Hello all,  I decided to install a different version of the Ultranav driver on my ThinkPalled ad x220 laptop. I deinstalled the Ultranav driver using Programs and Feures, and then proceeded to install the Ultranav driver by running the executable I downloaded from thealla lenovo page at http://support.lenovo.com/nl/fi/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x22....  The installation goes on fine up to the point when the driver has to be actually copied/installed, and then I get the error message "You have to run the 64-bit version of DPInst.exe on this machine. Contact the vendor that provided you this package."What to do? The machine, as it is now, is nearly unusable, unless I use an external mouse.
