VB to Power Basic

Q: VB to Power Basic

I use VB to create stand alone programs for ship positioning. They dont use the net, but require a fast cycle time good serial io support, and good multi layer graphics for chart construction.

VB.Net does nothing but bad things for my type of application, which I am the first to admit is in a minority of VB apps.

Power Basic looks like an attractive alternative. Has anyone done the move from VB to Power Basic and with what results ??

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I was just curious.

Would it be possible to develop a program like MSN Messenger with visual basic? I've seen some tutorials for making one with vb, but after finishing the tut, the messenger lacks alot of the features.

Is it possible to get all the functions of msn messenger with vb?

If so, how about AIM? ICQ? YAHOO?

I'm looking at developing an all-in-wonder application for a local ISP. Probable? Possible? or is it more of a job for c++?

A:The Power of Visual Basic

Try looking for components on the net, I dont see why this wouldn't be possible. One feature of VB is that you can actually put components built in other languages in (I know it can be done but dont ask me how!), so i dont see why this couldnt be achieved. Try doing a search for other peoples' code that already does what you want.

I bought an MSI motherboard and it turned out that it doesn't fit in my case. Be ambitious I set up an external PC. I ended up liking it and I am wondering where I can buy a basic power button (NOT a BOARD), so I don't have to short the pins with a screwdriver every time.

A:Basic Power Button

Well this has been harder then I thought to find. Do you have any old cases lying around? Most of them come with switches that attach to the pins that would work just fine.

You can buy a standalone unit like THIS but that is alot of money for something that you should already have lying around.

Hey guys, wanted to ask a question.

Is there a way to have Windows 7 switch to Aero Basic when on battery power. I see that when on the Power Saver mode, it turns off transparency when on battery power. I guess this is enough, but if it was to disable Aero, would that give me more battery life, or should I just keep it disabling Transparency?

Sorry if this is in the wrong category, couldn't find a "Power" section.

Thanks for your suggestions / opinions.

Is there no way for you to manually configure what you want to turn off and what you want to keep on.

There may be an option for advanced settings?

Hi everyone,

I've been trying to get my feet wet in creating a .vbs file from notepad to do a basic function. I wanted to be able to run .reg files remotely but also interactively. This led me down the path of simply finding an example of a .vbs that would open anything remotely at all. I researched many different places but this is a decent walkthrough. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa394601(v=vs.85).aspx

Hello,

I guess my question can be asked in two ways, the short way and the long way.

Here's the short one:

Can you do everything that you can do with VBA with VB?
The long one is:

I need to be able to write programs that conceivably invovle web forms/web services (VB right?), Microsoft SQL Server 2002 (VB again right?) but also Microsft Office applications like Excel and Access (VBA??). Does that mean I need to learn both Visual Basic and Visual Basic for Applications? In my initial research into Visual Basic I've learned that Visual Basic for Applications is a subset of Visual Basic, so shouldn't that mean that Visual Basic, being the parent and more powerful than Visual Basic for Applications, is capable of performing all of the functions that Visual Basic for Applications does?

Thanks for your help,
Bsdslayer
([email protected])

A:Solved: Visual Basic vs. Visual Basic for Applications

I do not know VB at all, only some VBA. The main difference is that VBA has words specifically for the applications, a classic exanple would be the
Range("a65536").End(xlUp)
both range and .End(xlUp) are for use in Excel.

My Yoga S1 has contradictory, intermittent power issues that I'm trying to chase down. Culprits are bad power bric/cord/plug or power socket on mother board or power board that feeds into power button/led on. One day it blacked out and wouldn't restart to hard drive or windows stage. I did get an error code which I can't remember 5100 or 5500 poss?, that seemed to indicate the power board or ribbons to that needed replacement or re-attachment. So fiddled with it and it did fire up in windows all ok. Then ran out of power and died again. power button wouldn't light up. plugging in power unit did light up led as getting charge. Left it overnight and then it miraculously charged up. pushed power button light up twice then nothing. took out power board/detached ribbon, then it fired up to windows, fixed some hd errors and has been restarting without problems. Except now there is no plug showing on battery icon when plugged in. So not recharging but I'm sure the battery is good. And logically, the power brick and plug must be feeding electricity into laptop to get it to recharge enough to start up. So power socket and plug may be suspect with intermittent contact problems. Or the power board somehow is involved in this? I've ordered a new powerboard as easy screw in and cheap. My question about powerboard is does this control ability of plug to charge battery? power brick with new plug is next order from ebay. but the power socket, which see... Hi,
I have a recent DELL laptop:
Inspiron 7000 (Inspiron 17 7778 2-in-1),
Core i7, 16 Gb RAM, 128 GB SSD + 1TB HD...
Not a lot of programs and lots of space available.
In the last few months I have had a lot of poor performance issues. I finally figured out it is related to Windows 10 Power Plan. When set to "Power Saver", the performance is awful. The CPU is maxed to 0.80 GHz. So when browsing the net or looking at my picture gallery, the computer hangs, and it becomes impossible to use. If I change the plan to high performance, the computer behaves normally - fast!
And even if I change the plan to another plan (i.e. High Perf), the next time I restart or wake-up the computer, the "Power Saver" power plan is set back... Very frustrating. And as shows the image, it is not the "bolded" option in the list. What can be changing constantly that parameter??
I contacted DELL chat support and they asked me to re-install Windows! There is probably a better way to fix this. It looks to me as a DELL Driver conflicting with Windows. Also, my mother has an older DELL laptop on Windows 10 and she experiences the same issue...
Any help would be very appreciated!
Cheers,
Jean-Daniel

Hello,

Is it possible that you can test with another compatible PSU? I would strongly suggest doing so.

Also try the following steps:
?Make sure that the (internal) speaker is connected to the motherboard
?Remove all memory and attempt to boot the PC
?You should get the no memory beep errors

If the Power Supply is in working order and no beeps are present then it can be indicative of a faulty motherboard.

For troubleshooting purposes it may be a good idea to remove the components from the case and bench test to rule out a short.

First, are you still under warranty?  (Some are)  Check here:
https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/warrantylookup

If you are under warranty, don't mess with things; call support.  In U.S. it's 1-800-426-7378

Assuming no warranty, if it were mine, I would try to reset things.  Pull the bottom cover and remove the main battery.  Disconnect the coin-cell (CMOS) battery and press the power button a few times to drain capacitors.  Put it back together and plug it in.  See if it is alive again.  DON'T DO THIS IF YOU HAVE A BIOS PASSWORD THAT YOU DON'T KNOW.

Hoping someone here can offer some advice? I own a Dell studio xps 435t-9000 that is a couple years old. I recently replaced my harddrive and since then (don't know if it's a coincidence or not) I'm having another problem. After I installed it, the first time my computer went into sleep mode/hibernation I couldn't wake it up. Power light was flashing white. Eventually I shut it down manually and then it wouldn't boot. Had a solid amber light, no power except the power supply. Fans not working. I unplugged everything and made sure it was all good. Wouldn't start. I read a few boards pointing to the power supply being bad or not powerful enough. However, I replaced the power supply about 6 months ago with a Corsair 600 which is plenty power. Could still be an issue perhaps but seems odd it would die in that little time. I also replaced my graphics card if that matters. Finally the last time I checked all the plugs I also took out the board batter for a few minutes to try and "reset" things. Not sure if that matters, either.

So, I'm at a loss where to go from here. I could replace the power su... Read more

A:Windows Power Management - Power Saver - is this safe for graphic card

Power Saver attempts to save power by reducing the CPU’s speed all the time and lowering screen brightness, among other similar settings and that may account for your fps drop when benchmarking. Doesn't sound like a good choice for your purposes.

Hello All:

I have a HP DV6275US, Pavillion DV6000 with Vista Home Premium on it and I am trying to go to XP. Dual booting is too much of a ruckus and I do not like it anyways, so I bought a Scorpio to install it on.

When I installed the Scorpio, it initially would not detect the drive, so I disabled SATA Auto. in the BIOS, and it then recognized it.

So, I start to install XP, formatted fine, copied sys. files fine, but when I got to the actual GUI install it asked me if I wanted to install a driver for my battery, which could possibly disrupt installation, so I choose yes and anyways and it proceeded fine for about a minute, then power failure. Tried again, and again, and same thing.

I put my Vista HDD back in, a Seagate 160GB, and things worked fine.

I have read something about having to manually load the drivers for the nVidia RAID chipset, as the ones XP Install loads do not suffice. I could not find any problems about the battery, so please, ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

The laptop is in pristine condition but shows no signs of life. When I plug in the power supply the green light on the power supply goes from solid green to blinking rapidly to the point you can barely see it. To me that would mean a short somewhere right ? If so where ? Has anyone else ever had experience with something like this ? I just don't want to go buying a new battery for a laptop that maybe fried already. Remove the laptops battery and try the AC power only. If the green light does the same, it still could only be a bad AC adapter, or at worst, a shorted laptop motherboard

You may just need to drain the power off from the power supply and try again. Unplug the power to the power supply, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and try to turn on the computer again. If that doesn't put the old power supply back in and see if the PC works, or was the old one dead? If the PC works with the old one and not the new one then you may have gotten a faulty power supply.

Why does shutting down the computer, removing the AC Adapter, removing the battery (if it is a laptop), and holding down the power button for 30 seconds fix problems in one's computer. I was recently corrected in a post of mine that this does not actually do anything unless one removes the 3 volt battery from the motherboard, but I know this is not true from experience. Here is the correction I am referring to from a more experienced member:

The motherboard has a 3 volt battery installed in it. This battery provides just enough power to retain all of the BIOS settings regardless of the state of the main power or the power supply. Following the steps above will not reset the BIOS or the CMOS chip.

You can reset the BIOS defaults by selecting that option from within the BIOS settings. Usually on the Exit menu.

To reset the CMOS (Clear the CMOS chip) there will be either a jumper on the motherboard to perform this function with, or newer boards have an actual reset button.

The above procedure will work to restore the BIOS defaults if you add the step:
2b - remove the 3v battery.
But it will not clear the CMOS.

The reason I know that doing the hardware reset I described initially works:

My Inspiron 15R N5110 won't come on. I've tried both battery and 2 different ac adapters. I've removed the battery, unplugged it, and held the power button for 30 seconds to discharge the system, but it still won't come on.
I took the laptop apart and everything looks alright, but the DC jack was slightly brown on top so I replaced the DC jack board. It still won't work.
I made sure the connections are tight (the DC jack and other USB board) by screwing them down. The only thing that happens that shows any life is when the battery is in. The power button, power indicator light in front, and the little "gears" light blink white for just a moment, then off, about every 5 seconds.

Any ideas? If I have to replace the motherboard, what is the difference between 0G8RW1 and 0VVN1W? I'm not worried about the product key not validating - may even put Windows 8 on it.
Thanks!

A:Inspiron 15R N5110 - Will not power on, blinking white power and gear light

Hi brockalee,
Both the Motherboards 0G8RW1 and 0VVN1W are compatible with this model and there is no difference. 07GC4R is also compatible with this model.

Does anyone know what model or type of adaptor I can purchase for my Dell Inspiron 13-7368 laptop for the power inlet so that I connect onto my external portable power unit (The connection to the power unit is USB)?
I do not have knowledge of how those the Dell power inlet are being classified and I cannot locate the specification for it. The AC Adaptor that I have for the Dell laptop is model HA45NM140. The information maybe on the AC-Adaptor but I do not know what I am looking for in regarding the plug in type for the inlet of the laptop.

I'm having a bizarre issue where simply unplugging the official Lenovo power supply from the orange USB power port causes the laptop to immediately issue the subject warning, along with the detail "A USB device has malfunctioned and exceeded the power limits of its hub port".   This warning pops up every 5 seconds, unless clicked on, where reset/close options do nothing.  Crazy thing is, NOTHING is plugged into any USB port!   Reattaching the power supply does not clear the error.  Only rebooting with the power supply cable connected clears the error.   Remove the power cable, and the error instantly comes back.   All of the USB ports actually work fine, including the USB C port, whether or not this message is active. Maybe it is a hardware issue, but ALL the USB ports actually work fine.  I can't figure how unpluging the power source can trigger a USB power surge when nothing is actually connected and the battery is fully charged.  I've removed/reinstalled the USB Root hub, eXtensible Host Controller, Generic USB Hub, etc., drivers multiple times to no avail.   No errors with any devices are apparent in the device manager. I've seen a lot of issues reported about USB power surges but none like mine.   Anyone have any ideas about this?  System: Lenovo Yoga 900/16GB/Windows 10

Hello!

My Toshiba Satellite P755-S5265 has not been able to turn on at all. That's because the AC adapter would not be charging the battery nor would it operate the computer.

Whenever I would plug in my adapter, a weird clicking noise would come out from the computer. Also, the AC adapter charging light would blink continuously as well. I

took apart my laptop and discovered that the end my of DC power jack was the source of the clicking. When I mean the end, I don't mean the area where I plug in my adapter, it's the other end that's connected to the motherboard.

Does anybody have any advice on what I should do? Is my laptop dead and done for?

Thank you so much in advance!

When I am trying to connect my All-in-XPS - DELL XPS18 1810, to the power source it's indicator LED light is just blinking. Battery is showing 2-4% and when the charge is drained it will shut down. In the BIOS it is saying battery is still good. Is it a problem with some IC component is burnt due to voltage issues or something like that? Power adapter is also seems to be fine. We tried it with a different adapter but the result is still the same.

Ever since i got this new motherboard and CPU ive been having a bit of a nightmare with it.

Gigabyte ga-ma790fx-ds5 -Latest Bios
AMD Phenom Black Edition 9850,
4 gigs PC 6400 ram (Corsair XMS2 CM2X1024-6400
ATI Radeon 4870

The problem is that the motherboard will NOT power up at all with the 2 of the latest power supplies (600 watt+) i have.

It wont work at all with; (Nothing happens its just dead)
Arctic 600 watt Jeantech PSU (brand new and working)
Corsair 620 watt HX PSU (working)

It only seems to work with my Jeantech 450 Watt PSU and i cant for the life of me figure out why. Ive tried everything to get the board to work with the new PSU's. I had thought that the PSUs i got were dodgy but after testing out one in an older PC it worked fine.

Ive removed all parts and tried powering up and i cant get it to boot up. But the PC seems to work fine with the oldish 450 watt PSU which i find just unbelievable.

Can anyone help with this nightmare? Now on the Gigabyte site the CPU i have isnt listed as supported by this motherboard which is kinda worrying could this be the reason? If so how the old PSU boots up.

I just want to have the fracking thing working with the right PSU.

A:Power Supply Wont Power up - Gigabyte ga-ma790fx & AMD Phenom 9850

if I read the specifications right on your mobo... it implies that it has the 4 pin PCI-e input(power) but it also has the 8pin ATX power conector. (it may be simply removing a cap that is actually right next to the 4 pin connector, thus making it an 8 pin connector (thats how it was on my mobo)

Try using the 8pin power with your new PSU, see if that works.

I'm interested in the Toshiba G25 laptop but have heard that you can't use it on airplane seat power. It comes with a 120W AC power supply (15Vx8A), but I've been told that most airlines limit seat power to 75-90W max. Lind sells a 12V car adaptor for the G25, but specifically won't include an airline plug for this reason (which I can get independently, of course). I've read some interesting electrical discussions on this board. Can ya'll comment on the following or provide any general advice about power consumption?

1) Given that the voltage of the laptop and airline seat power pretty much match up (12-15V), if the amp draw on the laptop exceeds what the airline power supply can deliver, what will happen? Will it damage the laptop to feed it insufficient current? Will it shut down the laptop altogether? Merely dim the screen?

2) If I remove the laptop battery, which requires power to charge it, how much will that reduce the power need of the laptop? I'm not sure how to work the math, but the spec sheet states the battery supplies 4400mAh at 8A output. Does it require the same to charge it?

3) Most importantly, on my 15 hour transpacific flights, will the DVD player work with that ultrabrite screen at the low airline power supply? A nice feature of the laptop is that you can watch DVDs without powering up the Windows operating system (it has a small linux OS for the DVD player). Granted, the DVD drive and screen are prob... i am trying to setup alert by email on specific hardware or system events. server is having Windows Server 2008 R2 OS
I see following events are logged on to Event Log by sources:
Power-On (source: Kernel-General, Event ID: 12, Level: Information)

Improper Power-Off/Shut-down (source: EventLog, Event ID: 6008, Level: Error)
Improper Power-Off/Shut-down (source: Kernel-Power, Event ID: 41, Level: Critical)
Proper Power-Off/Shut-down (source: Kernel-General, Event ID: 13, Level: Information)

OS Crash / Blue-screen (source: BugCheck, Event ID: 1001, Level: Error)
I had been trying to set alert by email on these events, and since its pretty easy to setup by Scheduled Task manager or directly attaching task for certain events on Event Viewer. However none of these works. I guess the reason may be the Task Scheduler
service always starts after all those events are logged on to Event-Log, because Event Log service always starts first.
I even tried setting-up alert in Performance Monitor, by creating a User Defined Data Collector Set, use System Up-time as performance counter and set an alert to send email when it reaches below 120 seconds. however this didn't work too. the data collector
set is not started when server is rebooted.
I will appreciate if someone can advise on the solution by using Windows Server 2008 R2 built-in functionalities and not using any third-party tools.
Thanks and have a great day!

Use a power supply calculator to get a accurate calculation of your power requirements.   Graphics card manufacturers have to figure a worst case scenario when giving power requirements.
