[BUG] Lenovo Yoga 13 20175 Rotation Sensor.

Q: [BUG] Lenovo Yoga 13 20175 Rotation Sensor.

I'd like to report a bug with the Rotation Sensor, which I believe is handled by HID Sensor Collection V2 The rotation sensor will not detect auto-rotation after a total shutdown. The only way to get it to work again is for the laptop to enter Sleep Mode, then upon waking up the laptop, it will re-enable the rotation detection. I believe this is some kind of bug with the ACPI system regarding the sensor. I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I've got a Lenovo Yoga 700-11ISK that I've reformatted and reinstalled with Windows 10 Pro.  I've been unable to get the rotation lock / rotation sensor working, which seems to be a very common problem.  However, none of the common solutions has seemed to fix the issue.  Below is a detailed list of everything I?ve learned.  Note that whenever I refer to "Tent Mode," I mean the device's screen is physically rotated (?folded back?) more than 180 degrees.  Don?t confuse this with "Tablet mode," the software-based switch available in the Win10 Action Center; when I say "Tent Mode," I refer only to *physically* folding back the screen. First, let's establish how it behaves on the factory image (i.e. the copy of Windows that comes with the system).  These are the desired/expected behaviors, which I?m listing point-by-point for comparison to how it mis-behaves on my fresh Windows 10 Pro install: 1) In Tent Mode, "Rotation Lock" is available in the Action Center; otherwise, it's greyed.2) In Tent Mode, "Lock rotation of this display" is available in System->Display settings; otherwise it's greyed.3) In Tent Mode, the ?Allow the screen to auto-rotate? checkbox in the Display control panel is available; otherwise it?s greyed.4) In Tent Mode, the physical rotation lock button works; pressing it shows a ?auto rotate on/off? OSD.  Otherwise the button has no effect.5) In Tent Mode, registry key HK... Read more

Hi all. This is my first post, tried many things, but this issue keeps happening and I am out of options.I turn my machine on, connects to Wifi just to lose it after a few minutes. Running the windows (10) troubleshoot will take a few minutes and come back with Gateway not available. I tried all the options in this post:https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht502846and also tried fresh start with saving the files and by formatting the hard drive but had no luck.Disabling the Bluetooth doesn't help either. The fastest way to get the wifi back is to go to switch airplane mode on and then off.Every single other device in the house has no problem with wifi, but I still tried to restart the router multiple times with no luck.I am now thinking that this might be an hardware issue, before ripping this thing apart I figured I would ask as a last resort to check if there is anything that I didn't try, OS is Win 10 - everything up to date (had to run the last few updates manually due to spotty wifi) Not sure what other info is required.

Hi.

I don't have this machine, and I'm not sure if this machine is too new. It does not list driver on the support web site yet:
https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-c630-13q50/downloa...

Check also "Lenovo Vantage" just in case there is any software update.

I also used to have this problems with a TP Yoga 14, but it was that it has a "rotatation lock" button on the side, but your does not seems to came with that button.

Hello, since a year or so I have a Lenovo X1 yoga running on 64-bit Windows 10. So far without any problems. Yesterday late in the evening I updated my computer via Lenovo Vantage. Today, several hours later, during a meeting I wanted to take a note with OneNote and the pen. Because I like to use the Lenovo in this scenario like a booklet I used the short cut Ctrl+Alt+Left arrow to switch the orientation. This time the screen didn't respond. Also turning the Lenovo in such a way that the Auto Rotation feature will do its job didn't work. So I looked into the display settings, etc. and saw that the Auto Rotation feature were disabled. Two hours later searching the internet and trying all the steps in article https://windowsreport.com/rotation-lock-grayed-windows-10/#9 (except the last one, namely resetting the system) my Lenovo still wasn't running smoothly ... At the end you'll find some some screen shots regarding the update status. Help would be much appreciated. Regards, Gerhard

A:Lenovo X1 Yoga: Auto Rotation lock is grayed out

I have the same problem with my X1 Yoga 3rd Gen. Additionally, https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Tablets/Rotation-Lock-is-greyed-out-in-X1-Tablet-Gen3/m-p/4175... seems to describe the same problem as mine, but on X1 Tablet 3rd Gen. Most of the time when it wakes up from sleep, it's stuck in either tablet or laptop hardware mode:- either the keyboard and the trackpoint/touchpad don't respond,- or the touchpad stays enabled even when the laptop is flipped into tablet form. When this happens, Windows does not switch to/from tablet mode automatically when the laptop is flipped.- If it's stuck in laptop hardware mode, "rotation lock" is grayed out;- if in tablet hardware mode, it is not grayed out.In both cases, it does not rotate automatically, but rotation can be changed manually in display settings.Rebooting or hibernating and turning the laptop on again makes everything work. I have tried the SensorInfo application. When the laptop is stuck in one mode, either of the following happens:- The "SimpleOrientationSensor" shows "Faceup" when the laptop is flipped into tablet form, and "Rotated 270" when the screen is rotated clockwise into portrait orientation. Windows still does not rotate the display - the same behavior as in laptop hardware mode.- All the sensor tabs return no data or zeroes. Windows also does not rotate the display. All the updates available from Windows Update and Lenovo Vantage are installed.

Hoping someone may have found a solution that I can't-  I have a number of Yoga 11e models, approx half of which work perfectly.  The other half will not recognize that you are tenting or converting the screen to tablet mode and in the rare instance that they do, the screen is off by 90 degrees. This behavior is duplicated when booting from an Ubuntu drive so this isn't a Windows issue. All units updated to current bios, installed all available drivers, etc- no change.   My assumption is that there is a firmware update for a sensor that may fix the issue but given the number of units I have with the same problem, I can't understand how this doesn't seem to be a widespread issue online.  I have found one or two posts that reference the issue but none with a solution.   Thanks for any help.

I've been having trouble with the fingerprint sensor on my Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga laptop (type 20FR) for the last week. It is now completely unresponsive after working just fine for months. In device manager it says "This device cannot start (Code 10)." I've tried disabling/enabling the device form device manager, uninstalling/re-installing the drivers, and wiping stored fingerprints from the BIOS settings. After wiping the fingerprints from BIOS settings and re-programming the fingerprint sensor from the Windows Hello settings menu, it worked for a day, but then the issue with the finger print sensor crashing returned. What do I do?

Hello,
I've recently had to clean install Windows 10 onto my XPS 12 9Q23 convertible laptop. All is well apart from an issue with the rotation sensor. It seems to rotate the screen portrait without issue, but switching back to landscape is near impossible without disabling auto rotate and doing it manually with keyboard shortcuts. Never used to have issues with this prior to the clean install and I was running the same build of Windows 10. Also when flipping/folding the screen flat to use as a tablet, the laptop used to automatically enter tablet mode. It no longer does this either.
I am running the latest BIOS, latest Video, chipset, touchpad drivers. LCD firmware is up to date, and all latest Windows 10 updates are installed. Seems to be quite a well documented issue as I have noticed other posts from a few years ago with similar issues, but only resolutions offered for the 9Q33 rather than the 9Q23.
Wondering if anyone managed to ever get a resolution to this for the 9Q23? Thanks
Tom.

So I have five options for a screen brightness: Darkest, Darker, Suggested, Brighter, Brightest. So the "Suggested" options, as it may seems, supposed to use the light sensor and adjust the screen brightness corespondedly but instead it has the fixed brightness level, right in the middle between Darker and Brighter. It can never be the "Darker" or the "Brightest" as you may expect, it has always fixed value.  So my question is: Are there a way to make the light sensor actualy do the usefull job?

I started using a brand new AC adapter directly from Lenovo after my old one stopped working. At first everything was normal. After restarting my computer a few hours later, the brightness is set and cannot be adjusted with the keyboard, slider or within settings. The autobrigtness is not turned on nor is power saver. It was dim and at night after being in sleep it was bright but at neither time could I change or control the brightness. Today upon restarting it is still in a dimmer mode and I cannot make the brightness increase. I did not update anything else software or hardware and everything else is original to the laptop (no replacement parts).I have checked to make sure Adaptive Brightness is turned off in Display Settings and also made sure the Auto-Brightness is turned off. The brightness is at 100% on the slider and settings but the screen remains dimmed.Thank you!

According to Yoga 13 service manual, AzureWave's BCM4330, Part number 20200050 is a replacement for WIFI card and should work.   It sure does fit fine and can be connected properly and correctly without any problem but it is not detected by the laptop. I also ran Ubuntu's Latest desktop version but it also fails to detect any WIFI/WLAN Card present in the system.  I believe even though it is listed as a compatible part in Yoga 13 maintenance manual, it is probably not whitelisted in System BIOS and probably that is why it is not detected at allYoga 13 has been working well for ast 5 years (part from the keyboard hiccups). I have also seen this happen. Other times, it seems auto rotation just breaks every now and then. I have to restart to get rotation to come back. Other times, I've seen what Philsan described - the rotation logic gets it backwards and I always end up upside down. Again, I have to restart to fix it. Thankfully, Win8.1 restarts extremely quickly, but it's still a major annoyance. Lenovo, please look into this and get it fixed.

In laptop mode the "rotation lock" option is disabled, which I guess is by design and that's fine. When I flip the screen to stand mode the option is enabled and turned off. I can turn the option on and it works as expected. If I flip the screen back to laptop mode and then back to stand mode, the option is turned off again. How can I keep it turned on? I never use tent mode or portrait mode, so I don't need it and it messes with my window sizes. I could disable the ymc service, which fixes this problem, but then the keyboard doesn't turn off in stand mode. Anyone have any ideas?

The X1 Yoga 2 has an issue where locking rotation in tablet/tent mode while the screen is rotated to an orientation that is not the same as laptop/landscape mode does not auto-reset to the correct orientation when returned to laptop mode. It also disables the rotation lock toggle in the Win10 action center so that the user cannot just rotate to the correct orientation.  Flip from laptop to tent or tablet mode, then change the orientation to any mode that isn't the same as the way it is in laptop mode (say Portrait), and "Lock Rotation". Then, revert to laptop mode. The orientation will be stuck in the tablet orientation, but since it's locked in laptop mode, won't let you revert it. You have to flip it back to tablet/tent, unlock "Lock Rotation", and flip back into laptop mode for it to appear correctly.  I noticed this a while back. I do this a lot as I'll be configuring something like a router or switch in laptop mode, then flip to a tablet and walk around in tablet/portrait mode monitoring the network (or chasing wireless dead spots with a wifi signal app). When I need to go back to laptop mode (to use the physical keyboard for configuration in an SSH session), I have to remember to get the orientation right (or unlock "Lock Rotation") before I flip back or it'll get stuck. Fujitsu T-series laptops have a little app that allows you to set which is the preferred for each mode in the control panel, which then sets that for you when you change from la... I am not very happy with this laptop from the very beginning as the performance is not as smooth as I expected. I have had issues when the laptop was brand new. So now I have started using an external mouse whenever the cursor gets stuck randomly. Coming back to the context, after upgrading to windows 10 the screen stopped rotating. I updated the lenovo transition software for windows 10. After that the screen rotation worked fine for sometime. Hello, You don't mention the flashing of the latest BIOS, but maybe you just forgot. By the way, on point 2., before updating to Win 10, you don't need to do "a clean reinstall" of Win 8 anymore. You can now just do a totally clean install of Win 10, and it will activate just fine (because the HardwareId of your Yoga is already on MS servers).

Well, this doesn't appear to be an uncommon thing but I have no idea what I've done to manage this. Brand new Yoga, barely 12 hours old.  Other than downloading Chrome as a browser and cleaning up some of the Start icons (ie:  unpin them) and set up Outlook, I have done nothing else. And now the computer screen will not auto-flip into Tent mode / Tablet mode.   I figure a setting somehow passively got pushed.  To be clear, it is not the bottom right notifications bar - rotation lock is not grayed out there and is on the "off" position.  However if I go to display, it's fully grayed out there.  I can manually set the computer into tablet mode and flip the screen. So somehow somethign else is acting on the action of the Rotation lock, forcing it into the locked landscape position. How can I get this back to Auto-rotate and tablet mode?  Please?

Dear Forum, Ever since I installed Windows 10 the automatic screen rotation doesn't work. I have the impression that Windows doesn't even know that my Thinkpad has the corresponding sensors. In the device manager, there is no "Sensor" section, I have no "Rotation lock" button in the quick settings (not greyed out, it's not even there), and the physical rotation lock button does nothing. I checked that the services "Sensor Data Service", "Sensor Monitoring Service" and "Sensor Service" are running and automatically started.I read here on the forum, that there should be some "HID sensors V2" visible in the Device manager. This doesn't show up, so I have no idea how to reinstall drivers. Any suggestions how to teach Windows that it has more hardware than it thinks it has?

Welcome to the forums! I've moved your question from the Lenovo Ideapad Yoga forums over to here: the ThinkPad Yoga forum.

In answer to your question, I would suggest you try reinstalling the Intel chipset drivers for your ThinkPad Yoga from the support site:
