The HP website claims the 510-a010 has 5.1 channel audio. I have a logitech z506 system properly connected to the 3 jacks in the rear panel. All I can get is stereo. I think I need to reconfigure the back panel jacks but do not know how. Have tried several drivers - current version is 126.96.36.19973, but all drivers on HP site have same issue. Any ideas? I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system
It's worked out well for many of us in the past.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

My new desktop bought today has no sound at all...the speakers won't even turn on! It has no Audio Manager program? When clicking on the audio icon B&O an error message shows...this is just out of the box!!! And yes it even says in the manual to connect audio cable to "Black" output on back of PC??? It doesn't have a black audio port...green, blue, orange...never heard of a black connector...unless you have to use headphone port?

I am wishing to upgrade the hard drive in my new Envy AIO since it came with only a 5400rpm drive to a hybrid 7200rpm. I have read from previous posts that it is difficult due to the location of the drive sitting behind the curved monitor and to access it you have to remove it. I also have watched a video on someone doing this but they didn't mention how they were able to over come the strong adhesive that attaches the bevel to the monitor without breaking the screen. Is there a documented way to remove the bevel without force? This seems to be a poor engineering design for hard drive replacement or upgrades as well as memory grades where you have to go a step furhter and remove the motherboard since the RAm is located on the back side with no access. I am a computer engineer and very hardware savy and am very concerned about opening up the system to upgrade the hard drive. Any suggestions for removing the bevel safely would be greatly appreciated.Read other answers

Hi: I agree with you. I took a look at the motherboard illustration, and I do not see any kind of expansion slots available for add on graphics, or any other PCIe card. The only upgrades that can be done appear to be to increase the memory if you don't already have 2 x 8 GB installed.Read other 1 answers

I bought a computer from someone else. So, I assume they wipe the system clean.(Reformatted the system). Or whatever it called.
At one point I have no sound. So, I went to Device Manager and this was listed under "Sound, games, video controllers".
-Legacy Audio Drivers
-Legacy Video Capture Devices
-Media Control Devices
So, as reading other forums. I download Realtek High Definition Audio Driver, and went to Hp.com site to update driver based on my computer type.
But, my sound is low. I have speaker from another computer which is Hp 533w computer. It shouldn't matter what kind of speakers I have the volume shouldn't be low.
Is it my speaker (*** IT can't be speaker because volume in my headphones is low as well***) or It must be something I download incorrect or missing something to download?
Why does it say under control panel, sound. Now, at the top of Sound configuration box it says "Realtek HD Audio Rear Output"? I don't know what this is. As I had other computers in past it never said this up there.

Look at the sticker on the case and advise what the product number is so we can determine the exact model number of your HP dv6 laptop.
Go into Control Panel - Device Manager, then click the + in Sound Video And Game Controllers, then advise what's listed in that heading.
If there's an Other Devices heading, advise what's listed there too.
Are there any entries with a question mark(?) or an exclamation mark(!) next to them?
So my laptop isn't playing sound. I've tried to use headphones and speakers and nothing is working. This happened after i updated the BIOS firmware. Can anyone help me?

I checked other forums and tried:- soft & hard reboot- tried both Chrome and Firefox- both manually and used HP support to uninstall and reinstall the IDT driver - checked speakers in volume control was on default - undo the update but a warning sign saying a firewall or antivirus is blocking it. Tried to turn it off and didn't help After the 1st Hard Reboot it worked. I put it to sleep that night and then the next day it stopped again and hasn't worked since. I have a HP Pavilion 500-314 that I purchased about a 3 weeks ago. Then suddenly around 1-2am this morning the sound goes out. I tried downloading audio drivers for my computer and re-installed them with no success. I did some googling and it appears a lot of people are having this issue. I came across a post in the forums for laptops talking about it is a windows update that is the cause of this. Problem is, the update that they are listing and saying to uninstall is an update that I never got. So then I checked all the cables going to the desktop speakers and my headphones and they all work. I tried rebooting several times, restarting the windows audio service, and even tried to do a system restore. Nothing seems to be working. I never wanted to switch to windows 8 because all I have been having is problems. But Microsoft knows best right? Just push crap on people that they don't even want and make it difficult for people to get a working OS. I am out of ideas to get the computer working the way it was. I have an online class I have to take to get a certification for my job that ran me $1,550 for. I need my sound back. Any help will be appreciated.
Hi gottea, Please review the search results for your PC here. There are four chioces. I am linking you to the US model which may be incorrect. Here is an HP troubleshooting document. It may provide some additional tips for solving this problem. Have you tried installing IDT audio using HP's Recovery Manager? As you have done a factory restore this may not help. One thought would be if you are using an HDMI connection to your monitor. Windows may be setting the default audio to HDMI instead of IDT audio. You may have a hardware problem. This is a possibility based on the age of your PC (brand new!) and doing a factory recovery failed to correct the problem. Contact HP Support if the troubleshooting advice per the above document fails. First, I am a novice user. I have a Hp Pavilion 9680C desktop (Win98SE).
The speakers are not working-in fact there is no sound at all coming from the computer (with or without speakers). The computer came with Polk audio speakers that mount on the side of the monitor. At first I thought they were not working but I removed them and plugged in a set of CREATIVE speakers but still no sound.
Any idea what the problem could be?
I checked for a conflict in the Device Manager and from everything I can tell there should be sound.

Anyone familiar with this model and know the best way to reset the bios? I have moved the jumper, taken out the battery and unplugged it many times. It works, but I have to wait a while. The reset button looks bent, and Im scared it will break off(from experience). The problem is, I get it reset, and make my changes in the bios, and it only boots into (what i call)standby mode. The fan runs, but no video. I have taken out the new vid card. This happened when the power cut off. Its happened before to this machine and others with Asus boards that Ive had here. Its just always a major pain to get everything back on and get video back up. It has a good power supply, and not the Bestec one that came with it. Is there a trick here I dont know? Morio Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! The ONLY way to restore the Recovery drive is to do a complete factory restore of your PC using something known as HP Recovery Media. HP Recovery Media is a set of DVDs and a CD, or USB stick, that will erase the hard drive (removing all data, settings, and applications, reinstall the original OS, drivers, and some HP Utilities. In some cases, you may be able to order a USB stick instead of disks. You have to order these from HP; they can not be downloaded. You can look online for Recovery Media starting with the linked paged: http://support.hp.com/us-en/driversOnce there, input your Product name or number. On your Software and Drivers Download page, select your Operating System and and Version. Click "Update". If HP Recovery Media is available for your machine, down near the bottom of the page, you will see an entry for Order Recovery Media-CD/DVD/USB. Click the "+" symbol to expand that entry and click on Order Media for details.Or, if you prefer, you can do the same by contacting HP Customer Service:If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.htmlNOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while! If you have trouble finding a phone number, then try... I called HP and the person I spoke to said he thought it sounded more like a RAM or motherboard issue. I don't feel like paying $40+ for the boot disks and finding out they won't help, especially since it seems ridiculous that it didn't come with boot disks.

My desktop computer won't turn on. It was running fine this morning, shut down normally. About 8 hours later I went to turn it on, but nothing.
The green light on the back is on. (I don't know what that means, honestly, I'm very much a layperson with this.) I switched out the power cord, but it didn't help. The surge protector it's plugged into is fine and shows no signs of a recent surge causing a problem, but just in case I plugged the computer directly into the wall, no result.
I was recently posting over in the Security forums for some trojan issues, but they were resolved several days ago. I don't think this is a virus issue at all. The computer is 3 1/2 years old.
If you have any suggestions, I would be very grateful!

I've had my dv7 for nearly two years, and it has worked well the entire time. Recently within the last month, when preforming normal tasks like browsing the web or watching videos, the CPU usage would spike to 100% and stay there, rendering the computer useless. Every time this happens I would shut it down and wait a full day. This allowed for about 15 minutes of smooth running time before another spike.
I have run CCleaner, two full system scans using Norton 360 to no avail, updated all BIOS, cleaned out the fan and heatsink, and checked the power settings to see if the processor had been changed to use a minimum 100%.

i want to know of the HP Pavilion Desktop - 550-201nx is upgradable to the gtx 1070?
@saaddx?, welcome to the forum. Yes, if the card will fit into the space where the card will be installed it should work. However, with that said, you will first have to check to see if there is enough space for a power supply unit (PSU) upgrade. The 180W PSU that is installed is not near enough power for the GTX 1080. I recommend at least 550W. Also, you should check the motherboard to assure that it has a standard 24 pin ATX power connector. I like Corsair products. A modular PSU is good for smaller mid-size cases. You only have to install the cables that are absolutely necessary. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.Read other 1 answers
I've got a user who's a pretty good distance from me, who's pavillion slim line 400-434 is giving him the 511 CPU fan not detected error on startup. mikey59 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I maintain some older HP PCs for folks, and in the last several months, I've seen this same problem on ALL of them! And in ALL cases, both the CPU fan and case fan are working fine! This is some kind of fault in the BIOS that claims the CASE fan is not running. If you go into the BIOS hardware monitoring section, you will either see no case fan listed, or you will see a fan speed of ZERO. In my cases, the case fan was listed and ALL reported fan speeds of ZERO. I tried different fans, and no change -- so obviously, this is a flaw in the BIOS error reporting logic. The way to "fix" this is to disable the message -- and to do that, you have to go into the BIOS advanced setting and if case fan monitoring is enabled, you Disable it.Good LuckRead other 1 answers

Hi, The HP model number in the title needs correction. The GTX 950 should work in your PC providing you have the correct power supply. A 500 watt PSU would work. Do some measuing inside and make sure that your particular graphics card choice will fit.Read other 1 answers
