crazy keyboard and cursor! malware?!

Q: crazy keyboard and cursor! malware?!

Thanks for the help, I'm going crazy!

My IBM Thinkpad x60s I think is infected. I can't type anything, one or two keystrokes turns into a string of gibberish and the computer is constantly right-clicking. The mouse also sometimes turns into a little dinosaur when it's processing stuff and I know it wasn't there before. I've run my anti-virus software but nothing turns up.

I tried booting up in safe more, but my keyboard was still acting weird. The only way I was even able to log in was because the computer has a finger scanner.

any thoughts? I'm on a second computer now.
Thanks!!

Preferred Solution: crazy keyboard and cursor! malware?!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I think that's a laptop. If you are using the laptop's keyboard try with the touchpad disabled and/or try typing with an external keyboard.

If you are using an external mouse disconnect it while typing to see if maybe it is sending spurious signals.

Hello everybody:

i have a problem with my new computer that is a little weird.
i would like to describe my system and then the symptoms.

e-machines/T1742/1.70GHz/512 MB ram/Celeron
windows xp home edition service pack 1, plus all the updates (critical, drivers and xp) installed

cd-r/dvd reader only/std. stuff like printer, floppy tray, 56k modem, (i do Not have a network installed, although it has a NIC)ect.

the new things i installed were 2 sticks of memory (256 MB ea.)
and the cd-r/dvd reader drive.

Here's the problem:
(i'm not precise the date it started, but it was months after i acquired the computer & maybe days after i plugged-in the first stick of memory (256) to work with the 128 MB stick that came with the machine.

It all began 1 day i was working with microsoft Works 6 (factory installed/EMI) and all of the sudden i clicked to insert a word and the cursor began eating (by itself) everything i was doing. I turn off the program and noticed that the whole system was going crazy. The toolbar (especially the section where the clock is located) was openning and closing by itself. i could not press anything because the thumbnails or icons where turning on and off. If you tried to turn off the machine the choices where like alive, turning off and on (didn't let you click). It was like a nervous breakdown. i panic and unplugged the machine from the wall outlet.
when i try to reboot, the machine froze on the e-machines logo

Welcome to the Forums Memy.

Sounds like the autocalibration on your Trackpoint has gone haywire. Does the jumping stop when you touch the TrackPad and resume immediately after you lift your fingers off it?

For me, I went back to the last known good configuration, and discovered that the problem was due to the program "AdAware" on my system... the new version of ad-aware was running too many different background.

Also, check if this persist in safe mode.

Update us how it goes.

Over the past week, my cursor moves randomly over the screen, will place newly-typed text in the wrong place, makes duplicate entries of an alphabetic keystroke, skips a space, etc. I have a Toshiba Satellite L455, new this year. This weird stuff happens in any system in which one types (electronic mail, forms on internet, etc.) My hand is nowhere near the mouse when this occurs. I sought help from one of those pay-how-much places on the internet last night; after 2 1/2 hours, I gave up. I have also noticed that my Dell Inspiron laptop is starting to do the same thing. Any experience/solutions with this?

If its new then return the lap top and get another one.

For your Dell i would recommend updating the mouse/keyboard drivers if you can or use another mouse.

I will try to post.... my cursor is gone crazy. When i click on anything a straight line goes flashing across everything example... like in the notification icons on the bottom right hand corner, lets say that (1) is Norton icon and then I have 4 or 5 other icons and I try to open Norton a straight line just flashes across all 5 icons and not able to run Norton or any other. It stops running but after awhile resumes again. When trying to run any of the downloaded removal tools, the (cancel) option is lite (it is like a light) and can not run any of the tools. Even as I write at this moment and I try go back the cursor line will move forward across all the words till it reaches the end. This same page at moments moves up or down by itself. I don't know what to do. I want to say that English is my second language so any instructions that you may give me has to be very explicate, please, so that i can understand. I am also not very computer savvy so please give me precise instructions. I really appreciate all the help that i can get. If by chance anyone speaks Spanish it would be easier for me. Thanks to all my Bleeping Computer friends that I know will be giving me a hand. It just jumps everywhere. It also clicks my start button. I am using a laptop. I have tried virus scan, malware scan, spyware scan....everything scan.... I tried rolling back the drivers. A:Crazy erratic cursor

Try Trend Micro Housecall they will scan your computer on line with multiple scanners.
Have you used any speed up type programs as they can cause the mouse to stutter and flicker.
set a restore point then go to device manager and expand the properties box of mice and other pointing devices and uninstall the driver.
Exit and restart your computer
Windows will look for the driver.
Update it after and restart.
If that fails you will have your restore point to return to.

A few days ago I uploaded some video clips off my camera onto my son's laptop, soon after the mouse cursor started going crazy, darting around the screen with a mind of it's own. (The mouse itself is a little button in the middle of the keyboard)
I plugged in another mouse using usb port, this pretty much does the same although after a while messing around with it it'll work for a while but frequently goes crazy and darts about.

I'm hopeless with all this technical stuff but since there wasn't a problem until I uploaded the video clips and also that the usb mouse does the same I'm guessing there's some kind of virus.
I have Spyware Terminator running but didn't realise until this happened that it was 'unsupported' and needed updating to a newer version, I've since done this and ran a full scan it isn't finding anything.
I've searched the problem and most of the results come back saying there is some kind of virus, I then download the recommended tool to find and remove it but nothing comes up.

Whilst I've been trying to 'fix' this problem I've noticed that all my system restore points have gone, leaving just one from the either the day the problem occurred or the day before, I've tried this but still the mouse dances about the screen.

Please someone help me fix this, it's driving me crazy, not to mention the fact that this is my son's laptop.. He's not impressed! lol ... Read more

My mouse is optical and is plugged into the mouse port not USB.

Any suggestions?

Are you saying that you get beep codes before Windows starts or that the beeping starts after Windows boots?

Beep codes that occur as soon as the bios begins to post (except for one short beep) are indicative of a bios problem.

Hello!

A day or so ago, I noticed that the computer was acting kind of strange.
I'm not exactly sure how all of this happened. I DO use Myspace, but I also try to make sure that I run Ad-Aware and virus scans pretty frequently, AND I do utilize Cookie Cleaner. I'm wondering if it's because a friend sent me a text file over AIM for some HTML, or if it was from something else...

Anyway, though, if I'm going to ask for help, I'd better give up the details, huh?

While Running AVG Free Edition Anti-Virus, I had an alert come up for this:

Tojan horse Generic6.UMS

There were 5 things that popped up...4 during a scan, and the 5th later, while I was online, looking for help. These are the two I can remember:

ISSetup.dll
_is10.exe

I can't recall what the others were, but I remember trying to search for them, and all I got were message boards where people WANTED to download this thing so they could play a game of some sort.

Placed in AVG Free virus vault, then wiped clean...said they were "backup files" and unhealable.

Ran Ad-Aware, AVG Free, Cookie Cleaner...downloaded PC Tools Antivirus, to no avail, did not have time to let definitions download. Am working on that currently.

Scanning with AVG Free today at 12:49 AM.......nothing unusual, except that it's taking 1+ hour to scan, when it usually only takes 20.
It seems mostly to be scanning in the WINDOWS section, and it's never taken this long before. I don't remember seeing ... Read more

Hi,

Since my screen turns black (instead of blue), I don't know if this is the correct forum to post in. The problem:

The mouse cursor (normally a black outlined white arrow) will, with no warning, turn weird-looking - and looks fuzzy or blurry, larger than normal, with different colors, it can go from pointy to round, sometimes disappears for awhile. After that, I have only a couple of minutes to shut down open programs before the computer slows down and freezes to the point where I can't click anything.

Sometimes, I'll have left the computer running, go off to do an errand, and come back to see the two monitors have turned black. Ctrl Alt Del does nothing. The only way to shut down is to push and hold the start button until the computer goes off.

Other times when the cursor goes crazy, I'm able to click Start and select restart, but the computer will not restart. It will start powering off, then turn black. I have to manually shut it off (push the start button in).

Upon restarting, the computer will start up normally (after selecting the option to start normally) and will run anywhere from a day to several days until the cursor goes crazy again.

I've run memtest 86+ and it reported no errors after 12 passes.

I saw a thread in another forum that suggested changing the power management of the mouse may help with mouse problems, so I have deselected "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" under the Device Manager > Mice and other po... Read more

The device, \Device\Harddisk1\DR1, has a bad block.

The HDD is Western Digital WD Green WD10EARX 1TB. So test it using Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows.

Also, some failure from AVG's part is also noticed. And AVG Disk Driver (c:\windows\system32\drivers\avgdiska.sys) may fairly contribute to the issue. Better you uninstall AVG using Revo Uninstaller freeware.

Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.

Download, install and update those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one; for a safety need.

Hi All,

I was over in another area of the forums called "am i infected" and after following all their instructions it was determined that my computer is not infected with a virus of any sort.

I am running vista on a dell inspiron 1545. I've had it for about 3 years and when i first got it i had a lot of issues with the touchpad and keyboard acting erratically. After a lot of back and forth with dell and a ton of frustration, updating the touchpad driver and disabling the zoom option seemed to solve the problem. At that time, the problem was with typing. For instance, I'd be typing an email and the cursor would jump all over the page. Text would get highlighted and deleted, spaces would pop up, random letters appear, the keyboard seemed possessed. Dell sent me a new keyboard and ultimately a new laptop but it still happened. Through forums like this on line I found others experiencing the same problem and that's how i found the fix.

The other night all of a sudden windows started opening and closing randomly and very quickly. I lost internet connection and then the network couldn't be identified until the router was reset. The computer becomes totally useless. I can't do anything with it. It will be fine for a couple hours and then all of a sudden it becomes possessed. Considering the history with this machine, I'm assuming it's the touchpad driver again.

Does anyone know if there is a fix for this?

Thanks in advance fo... Read more

I recently purchased an HP envy laptop (model m6 n-012dx) and the cursor on my screen will intermitently become erratic, very jumpy. It will start moving all over the screen, or jitter back and forth, and even minimize pages or open pages and links beyond my control. This happens even with my fingers off of the touchpad, so I know it is not a sensitivity issue. When I do attempt to take control of the crazy cursor it is pretty much inresponsive to my attempts.  Basically the cursor becomes possessed. This happens intermittently though (and when it occurs it lasts at least a couple minutes at a time), so I haven't been able to pin-point what triggers this behavior. My touchpad driver is up to date and all of my other drivers are up to date, so I know it's not an issue there. Oh, and I'm using Windows 8.1. A temporary solution I have noticed is that by doing a hard reset it fixes the problem until the next occurrence. But I don't want to have to keep going to this solution, considering this happens pretty much daily at some point or another. Any ideas/suggestions out there? Am I alone in this issue? It is very annoying. Cursing at the cursor. I would be very appreciative of any advice.  Also, a side note: I am living in Guatemala for most of the rest of this year (this is where I am right now) and so returning the laptop to Bestbuy isn't really an option. That would have been my big solution. Thank you in advance! &nbs... Read more

Hi,

Thank you to anyone who can give me a hand in advance. These two problems have been puzzling me for a while. I doubt they are linked - but they could be I suppose.

I have Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 (12.0.6316.5000) SP1 MSO (12.0.6320.5000) installed apparently. This came pre-installed from Dell. I have tried re-installing it from scratch with no luck. This is a Microsoft Vista Ultimate machine.

I compose email's in HTML, though I have tried Rich and plain text

The symptoms:

*Spell check problem*
Spell check is set to do its checking before sending.
I compose an email and hit send.
If there are no spelling mistakes, the email sends, no problems.
If there are spelling mistakes, the spell check box window appears as you would expect. After the correcting routine I occasionally get a box saying (something like) "Do you want to spell check from the beginning" - clicking either Yes or No will crash Outlook.

*Cursor problem*
While composing an email, I will randomly loose the ability to use my mouse to position the cursor in the message area. I cannot position it, select text, right click - anything with the mouse. I can use the keyboard with the arrow keys perfectly fine though. I find it strange how this only effects the message box - the other fields, such as subject, to, cc etc, are unaffected.

I should explain that this machine is used by a blind person. It has Dolphin Supernova installed - a reader and magnifier product. These problems are present ... Read more

Dell Studio 1747 on Win 10 Pro. Keyboard acting crazy. No spills, drips, or chocolate mess.
About every 5th time I log into my PC, the KBD does not respond for PWD. Neither does my bluetooth KBD when I turn it on. The only solution is either reboot or use the on-screen KBD. No apparent driver updates. No interference from the bluetooth as it is usually off. Once logged in, all KBDs work fine.

What gives oh wise Dell experts?

A:Keyboard Crazy!

This is a system that may not be fully compatible with Windows 10, do you know if you had this problem before installing Windows 10?
Barring Windows 10 from being the problem on a lot of systems if you end up tapping one or more keys at the boot process it can hang the keyboard until Windows boots.  If  this is happening without pressing any of the keys then you may want to consider resetting the bios to defaults and see if the problem continues.  Enter the bios (hold the shift key while clicking restart and choose bios) choose the exit tab and choose set to defaults and then save changes and reboot.  You may want to consider updating the BIOS if you dont already have the latest revision A14.
If this is something that only started happening after updating to Win 10 you may have your answer there. Otherwise I would look at the problem having to do with the BIOS.

The keyboard sounds like the controller has died. CAn you test with another keyboard and if that works buy a new one. New (cheap) keyboards are only about $10 / 5 from anywhere (even walmart)

I've got an HP machine running Windows 98. It keeps doing the following:

- Inserting returns or digits when I type something
- launching another program when I use the ALT or CTRL or SHIFT keys
- skipping down the page at times when a DELETE or BACKSPACE key is hit

pretty weird stuff but makes some work impossible at times. Occasionally shutting down the machine and starting up again will fix it *in part* or temporarily

obviously, I will never again buy an HP - but what's causing this and how might I fix it? any suggestions appreciated!

A:keyboard gone crazy!

You probably need a new keyboard as the keys are dirty and sticky, but it's possible the connector is damaged.

Have you tried shutting down, and removing the connector and then reseating it snugly?

You can also try going to the device manager and removing the keyboard from there. It *should* be redetected on startup and the drivers reinstalled.

.... welcome to TSG ....

All of a sudden without warning my keyboard will do weird things.

typing u will open Ease of Access Centre
typing b remove the current window from active

Opening the onscreen keyboard will return things to normal.

Also when typing it will (on occasion) repeat a letter/number/space about 10 times and I have to wait a few seconds before I can tpye again.

Is this a Vista thing? and how do I stop it ?

laptop? Desktop? is the keyboard a PS2 or is it a USB? As far as the question of it being a Vista thing I have never heard of them adding a 10 time repeating charachter "feature"...

I'm feeling dumb, I screwed up my keyboard and don't know how exactly I did it. This is my first laptop and I wanted to "print screen." I didn't know where the function key was...so I started randomly hitting combinations of keys with the END/PRTSC button in hopes it would work. My thought was, "maybe something is different with this computer." Typing this is a chore because my page will randomly scroll, the curser jumps around, sometimes my pages close or other pages open. I'm thinking it is something simple but nothing I am aware of. It is NOT related to mouse sensitivity, believe me I tried that first. Could someone please help? Thanks.

You might try taking out the keyboard and re-installing it, or replacing it entirely... Here's an example video:

could it be the regional settings for your keyboard are somehow incorrect? go to START>CONTROL PANNEL>REGIONAL & LANGUAGE>KEYBOARDS & LANGUAGES(tab at the top). See if the settings are for your correct region ect?

Not sure if this is the right place for this posting but I have pretty much come to my wits end.
So a couple days ago my cursor started going nuts. It is most visible when I am writing. It just wants to scroll to the left all the time, which makes it impossible to type. I have reinstalled my touchpad driver several times, turned it off and used an external mouse and still have the problem.
There is also the issue when I use menus, it scrolls up and there is pretty much nothing I can do exit the application and then try again. It happens in every application on my computer so I am pretty sure it is the keyboard at this point.
I checked to make sure the drivers are up to date and they are. I am using an ACER 6920 with vista 32bit home premium.

Any help would be great. Thanks

My keyboard has gone bananas. When you type m it says b, when you type l it says 3, etc. And sometimes a key will make a window pop up or the date come up. I am not at this computer at the moment which is why I can type. I did unplug the keyboard from the cpu and replug and it worked ok, then I shut down and again back to same problem. I scanned for virus, but my software is fairly old and I need to update but I didn't think that is really what the problem is. Could be, but I will update tonite. The other thing is that my husband plays this one game and everytime he does either our monitor won't communicate with the cpu for a while or now the keyboard and it only seems to happen when he plays that stupid game. Help me fix it please! Thanks so much!

Hi guys. I have a really odd problem thats bugging me. me and my GFs pcs are hooked up in the same room. Now her keyboard has been working fine up until tonight we got in and she tries to log in and check her email. After a bit of frustration we notice that her keyboard is behaving VERY oddly. Every time we press a key on her keyboard 2 presses are recorded. This happens with ANY key. KKIINNDD OOFF LLIIKKEE TTHHIISS.. So we think damn it the keyboards buggered, but heres the weird thing. I tried her keyboard in MY pc and it works perfectly! So I guess that rules out her keys not working! After, I tried my keyboard in her pc and it works fine as well!!!!! I just dont get this. The only combination that doesnt work is her pc/keyboard. I know we could switch keyboards but I'd rather not do this as I'm used to my keyboard and want to use my own.
Does anyone have any idea how to sort this one or what might be happening?

Cheers,

SC

I'm using a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ31M laptop and have unexpectedly encountered a problem.

Out of nowhere my keyboard has gone crazy. The top line seems to be fine but characters in the bottom two lines, including symbols, are not being generated properly.

eg. I press 'a' it comes out 'x' etc. In some cases it is coming out with double letters, eg., 'd' generates 'ad'.

The problem came on very suddenly and I can't work out what is causing it. It's not num lock or keyboard layout or any of the obvious things. Do you think this sounds like a hardware issue (I'm thinking liquid spillage into the keyboard, though I do not recall doing this) or some kind of virus/malfunction?

I'd really appreciate any help.
Thanks.

My laptop's keyboard keeps pressing random keys. One day it will start pressing sssssssss, the next day 000000000, then space, then ++++++++++++++ . I have given the pc for repair but nobody figured out the problem yet.
Laptop Lenovo G50
Inbuilt keyboard

I have cleaned it, used an external keyboard, both things didn't work. So I changed the keyboard but it keeps happening.

I have disconnected the bluetooth as well, removed the battery, turned off sticky keys, changed the repetition speed (read somewhere that sometimes these things work)

Problem is still there, seemingly no virus, no malware, nothing.

Please help me because the pc is absolutely worthless now, can't do anything with it.
