Issue reliably connecting Thinkpad T470s, running Windows 10, to wireless network automatically

Q: Issue reliably connecting Thinkpad T470s, running Windows 10, to wireless network automatically

Howdy folks, We have a new rollout of laptops with Win10 that we want the machines to grab the network as soon as they come up so our co-workers can log right in. We have a CA that our ISE service checks before sending to DHCP for addressing and AP allocation. We are seeing intermittent and inconsisent successful connections, every machine in our test group has failed auto connect at least once. Things we have tried:Making sure power settings are set to best performanceTurning off Fast BootDisabling HibernateLatest Intel WiFi driversLatest Lenovo power managementWin 10 build 1709 We have also done some network traces to watch the traffic and see if there was anything glaring that would tell us why the connection would not initiate. We are kind of at our wit's end and could use a few extra eyes/minds on this. Let us know if we can provide anything else and we will see what we can do! :-) Thanks in advance for any help. -brad and the team

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

We recently moved to a new internet provider and a new infrastructure company.

We got a "Hotbox" as it's called, wireless router + modem + phone hub or whatever.

When i connect to it from pc, i check "connect automatically" like i did with former network. Every time I turn the pc on, however, it doesnt connect. Like it forgot i asked it to.
It should be mentioned: when i restart the computer, in seems to auto connect to network. When i turn off, and then after some time back on, it doesnt connect.

Any help is appreciated.
I live in israel, and the infrastructure company is HOT, supplier is Netvision.

Hi,

I got my comcast internet connection this morning; I setup my wireless connection and its connecting fine with my office computer. Unfortunately personal computer (HP Pavilion dv6700 Notebook PC in which Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit SP2 is installed) is not able to connect with the router. I even tried connecting my modem directly - NO Luck. It was connecting for couple of minutes and getting disconnected.

Both my office computer and my iPod are connecting fine with the wireless network but my personal computer is showing Connected (local access only) icon in the system tray. When I mouse over, its showing "Unidentified Network (<network name>"
Is there any way to resolve it?

Thanks in advance

Dear community, (please bear with me, I am not an English native speaker.) This is not about the "plugged, not loading" issue I found around here multiple times. My Thinkpad will charge via charger only when it is switched OFF. It loads perfectly when plugged via docking station.Batteries are getting empty, power save mode and all that. Pluging two different power units show same result. Behaviour, reproducable:Computer running, info tray says battery 1 in use and battery 2 not loading (or vice versa), no matter if charger is plugged or notWhen charger is plugged while PC runs, the charger indicator light right besides the power plug remains darkOnce my ThinkPad is truly off (shutdown), any of my chargers work just perfectly: orange light while charging, green light when finishedAdditional weirdness: ThinkPad does not start when plugged to the charger. Hitting/pressing the power button at the right of the keyboard has no effect at all. Once unplugged from charger, it boots just as usual. While typing this with 9% remaining capacity, computer shut down. I plugged it to the charger and closed the lid --> orange light. Waited a couple of minutes. Opened lid. ThinkPad wakes up, and I continue writing.Again: charger is plugged, LED light is off again, info tray says not loading/in use. Any ideas?Frederik I am running M$ Win10 Enterprise.

Hello everyone,i'll try to give the most details i can.I just bought a 2nd hand t470s, and started by reinstalling windows from a usb bootable win10 i had at home.Everything worked fine except for the wifi card : i dosnt show anywhere. i cant see it on the device manager, its not greyed out nor hidden. Everything up to date, from windows update, to single driver update from the device manager, the intel update tool or even all the lenovo support drivers.I finally asked the support for a clean win10 pro update using my serial number. reinstalled everything clean, but still no wifi card detected. I switch with a killer 1535 from my other laptop : the ac 8265 worked on my other laptop, but i couldnt get the killer 1535 to work on my 470s (i could see it in the devicer manager but kept getting greyed out..).I spent the last 4 days on it and i feel like i read all the google pages that couldve helpt me.

I have since March this machine which is giving me quite a lot of problem. I had several BSOD (or the nicer version Win 10 provides) since several months. I updated even the BIOS. Now it seems related to a specific situation: if the notebook is connected to power supply and goes to sleep. If instead it relies on battery, such issue does not occur. Looking at the minidumps, I notice the main error is always the same PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA caused by ntoskrnl.exe + 1640e0 As I use my machine for computations, it becomes really and issue. If I close it and force it to sleep, everything seems OK (or less reproducible events). I made the Lenovo tests and nothing looks wrong. Missing the CD, I do not know how to make a memtest. I read elsewhere that it be related to nvidia drivers, which I do not think concern this machine. I will attach the minidump files. Thank you for your suggestions and help.

Not sure what you mean by you searched for drivers at Lenovo?  Or are you saying you found the drivers but they dont work?  Either way below is the link to T470s.   Click "Drivers and Software" on top.  You can Choose Windows 7 32 bit or windows 7 64 bit.  Also that link will have "system update" as well.  It should pull down all software for your laptop automatically.  Also you metnion T470s but wasnt sure if you had the 20JS, 20JT, 20HF or 20hg models.

Hi

I'd like to optimise windows such that it doesn't look for networks when I start up. I'd like to choose myself when to be signed in to network and when not to, just like I can open a program and then close it. At the moment if I disconnect my wifi connection it looks for a new automatically, and finds the very same and logs in to that one again. Is there any way to solve this?

Thx
Andreas

- Installed a new Wireless card as Desktop did not come with one, the drivers have been fully checked and are up to date according to Windows 7.
- Refreshed DNS, however, this error came up "An error occurred when renewing the interface "Wireless connection 2" : Unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out. No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection while it has it's media disconnected"
- I live in a student house and we previously all had problems with our network and our vista laptop, we all had to disable ipv6 and I had to disable uPnP in router settings.

Router is a Netgear WGR614v9.
Wireless card is a Sweex 54 MBPS wireless card.
And Device manager displays this as "Realtek 8185 Extensible 80.11b/g Wireless Device"
With "Realtek PCIe GBE Family controller" underneath.
Thanks for any advice, i'm really stuck.

Nothing.

I have not found a way to stop my laptop from connecting to it.

Any ideas?

I have a Netgear WN111 wireless adapter on my PC. Since installing Windows 8.1 it doesn't connect automatically to the router. The PC says there are no connections available, so I can't even click on the router to try to connect. If I pull the adapter out and push it back into the USB port it connects automatically. Also, when I switch the PC off, the LED on the adapter continues to flash, so I have to pull it out and plug it in again to stop that. I've tried troubleshooting, compatibility check, reinstalling the driver and uninstalling the driver and getting Windows to install one itself. Any ideas please on how to fix these problems? Many thanks!

A:Wireless adapter not automatically connecting

It's quite an old Legacy Product (Even netgear sites shows it is as discontinued) , with Windows 8.1 , Microsoft dropped support for a lot of legacy item drivers.

It's just one of the many issues 8.1 brought with older hardware , unlikely there will be a fix , but you could try and see if you are using the most upto-date driver.

I recently went through removing some trojan files and malware on my computer with Kevin over in the Virus and Malware Removal section and he successfully helped me clean up my computer but the one thing that is not the same now is my wireless internet connection. Before I was using the Netgear utility to connect and now that's not even opening at startup just using the Windows Internet Connection utility, which is fine with me but it just won't connect automatically at startup. About 3 or 4 days ago, I bought a D-Link Wireless AC1200 Dual Band USB Adapter so I could connect my desktop computer to my network. I immediately ran the installation disk that came in the same box and plugged it into one of my USB 3.0 ports. I connected to my network with no issues at all. The following day, after turning on and off my computer I opened my internet browser and it didn't work. Nor did skype, spotify or steam. I did the windows troubleshooter and it mentioned that connection between me and my router was broken. So I pull out the power cables out of router and reset it. This temporarily solves my problem until I shut down my computer again. When I start it up I have to reset my router again for my internet to work.

A:D-Link wifi stick not automatically connecting to network

I'm guessing the D-Link device came with a wireless connection manager software? It's possible that it's not set to automatically connect which you should be able to change. If at all possible there should be an option to allow windows to control the wireless stick, that way you can make sure it's set to automatically connect.

My desktop PC and HTPC have both been running Windows 10 32-bit without a problem for atleast two weeks now. Today I started having problems. I have media drive that's stored on my desktop PC that is being shared over the network so I can view my movies and TV shows on my HTPC. Today, the files stopped opening. If I double-click the videos, it takes an unusually 10-15 seconds for the file to open in VLC but then VLC doesn't play it. When I click "Play" nothing happens. The odd thing is that all the movies and tv shows from the mapped network drive play fine when I'm accessing them from the computer that the drive is directly connected to. I tried copying some photos to the mapped network drive to see if those will be able to be opened on the HTPC but it takes a very long time to open a photo and it freezes up when I'm moving back and forth between photos in the folder. Something here is making my files very slow to access. The HTPC is connected via an Ethernet cable to my router. Has been that way for ages, never had any issues. The mapped HD always connected on startup upon turning on the HTPC. Now, 50% of the time, it doesn't manage to automatically connect on startup.

A:Mapped Network Drive slow/not automatically connecting

I would also like to add that I have no issues browsing videos, photos and documents from other mapped network drives such as those from my family members' laptops.

I bought a used W530 with 24 gigs ram, i7 cpu.  I've installed all the latest drivers on lenovo's support.  Everything seems to work great except the touchpad (touchpad did the same thing before I updated anything).  When sliding my finger across sometimes it just stops and the cursor won't move again until I firmly tap twice, almost like the cursor is frozen in place and the taps wake it up.  Other times the cursor will jump to the other side of the screen when scrolling.  Sometimes it clicks with the slightest touch, and other times I have to firmly tap. I've read most of the issues on this forum but they don't sound like this problem.  This feels like a flakey touchpad.  I see on ebay you can get the touchpad sticker/cover, the entire palmrest with ribbon cables, or the touchpad sensor board.  If I can't fix the issue with software, is the problem most likely the palmrest piece or the sensor board?  I'm assuming the sensor board is what the palmrest plugs into somewhere by the motherboard, but I'm not sure as I haven't torn into it yet and the maintenance manual doesn't show that sensor board. I'm going to attempt disabling the trackpoint in the driver as I just found that suggestion on the forum and see if that fixes the touchpad.  If that solves the problem, is there a hardware fix for the trackpoint or is that just getting a replacement keyboard?  I doubt that will be the issue since the trackpoint and all... I work for an organization that has recently begun deploying Lenovo T470S modem 20JTS0QF00 (i5-6300U CPU). We are running into a very concerning issue where the machines all run generally poorly. They are opearting on a corporate image of Windows 7 which functions well on all other workstations in our environment. I have tried performing all Windows updates, as well as all released Lenovo updates (drivers, BIOS/UEFI, etc...). I've tweaked Windows settings, but the thing that gets me is all of our X270, T470, and X1 Carbon machines run just fine on the exact same image. The slowness is pervasive througout all applications, and actually leads to dragging video, etc. Just wanted to see if anyone has run into anything like this, and if you have any suggestion.Thanks.

I turn off the machine by holding down the power button for more than four seconds. Then, I press the power button and I've tried:1) Pressing F1 (to enter BIOS setup) or F12 (to select boot device) and 10% of the time it will work2) Waiting for the "Lenovo" splash screen and then pressing the key - success rate is about 10% I'm in the middle of clean installing Windows 10 but the install is hosed and it dies during the Windows 10 boot process. When I press the key, the "Fn Lock" on the ESC key is not lit. Help!Thanks. PS: When turning off, the power button flashes seven times. Is there a decoder ring for the # of flashes?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this as I'm not sure if its a problem with vista or my hardware. For about a year or so my computer has had issues starting. When I first turn on my computer it could do one of two things. Either it could start normally and work fine or the screen will start flashing every 5 seconds or so. It flashes to the normal loading screen but the keyboard and mouse do not work and it doesn't actually function. The only way to get it to work is restarting it until it seems to load normally which could take 30 minutes of just restarting over and over again. When it does eventually start it works fine but if left on for a long time it will eventually freeze and crash and the computer won't turn on for hours (overheating probably?). I recently gave my computer to a Microcenter to run a diagnostic and repair it if they could but all they did was reinstall vista and tell me the problem was fixed (along with a lovely charge for having them fix it) but they didn't actually fix anything. I hope someone knows what the problem could be. Thanks in advance!

Upgraded an old Optiplex 390 to Windows 10 Pro.  More accurate is purchased this computer second hand, and someone upgraded to windows 10 pro.  However, it had critical error every time it booted.  So reloaded Windows 10 Pro, and it works correctly.  However, can not get the ethernet to work.  I've tried disabling (then enable), tried deleting & rebooting, tried downloading drivers from internet.  But nothing.  It's using a Realtek.  Any suggestions?  Thanks

JBROOKS92,
Unfortunately, Windows 10 is not supported by Dell on this system. This means that Dell has not created any Windows 10 drivers for the hardware.  If no Windows 10 drivers are installed the hardware may not work properly.

I need to connect to a Windows 2003 server via my Windows 7 PC's Event Viewer. It is a non-domain server, so I need to provide different user credentials for the Windows 2003 server. The Windows 7 Event Viewer displays this error when I try to connect
to the Windows 2003 server: Connecting as another user is only supported when connecting to a computer running Windows Vista or later.

This is not acceptable. I need to be able to manage/view event logs on th Win 2003 machine from my Win 7 desktop.  This all worked fine using my Windows XP Event Viewer and now it is broken in Windows 7. How can I connect the Windows
7 Event Viewer to view logs on a Windows 2003 server with different user credentials?

Thanks,

Hi everyone: Iím having an extremely frustrating problem connecting to my Netgear DG384G v3 wireless router in my flat.

In short:

Ever since I reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP Pro, internet browsers do not detect a connection to the internet despite a wireless connection being detected in the network connections (and the icon in the system tray) when my wireless adapter is plugged into my PC. Connection problems only occurred after the reformat, another PC in my flat connects wirelessly to our router with no problems (before, during & after the time I reformatted; Iím posting this using his PC) and the router config settings have definitely not been changed in any way so its not a router problem. It appears that the wireless adapter is able to detect a signal from the router but the router is not sending information to the adapter (I canít even connect to the router setup IP address 192.168.0.1)?

More detailed:

1) I wiped the PCís harddrive then reinstalled Windows XP Pro Ė I thought the recovery disk would have drivers with it (like others Iíd used) but it didnít so I had to manually find nVidia chipset & 3com Ethernet controller drivers and SP1 (for USB 2.0 functionality), download them on another PC and transfer and install them on mine. I got SP2, this didnít change anything, I changed back to SP1, still no change to connectivity.

2) When my Netgear WG111 v2 wireless adapter is plugged into a USB port, Windows recognises it as a d... Read more

Hi, yesterday afternoon my wireless internet all of a sudden stopped working. I can view the wireless network but when trying to connect to it i get "Windows was unable to connect to BTHomeHub2-SHHS (which is my SSID)". Ive tried the obvious, restart laptop, router, unplug router and also press the reset button on the router but no luck, it works when connecting an Ethernet cable to the laptop and router so my internet is working just the wireless. When going to the routers webpage I've tried changing the wireless interface type from 802.11 b/g/n to b/g but still no luck. Can someone please help? not sure what other information you would need but hopefully this is enough. Cheers.

EDIT: figured out why it was doing this.. the arial that i use for my freeview box seems to be interfering with the wireless signal. Is there no way i can stop this? like changing the channel or something? thanks.

Routers usually default to channel 6.
You might try changing it ot channel 1 or 11.

I'm having issues connecting to a secure wireless network. Network key is definitely correct. I'm running Windows XP...and using a Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card. Things are set to acquire address automatically. When I try to connect though, I get stuck on "acquiring network address"

I've never had issues connecting to any other wireless network before, and am fairly confident this is not a hardware issue.

I'm really not technical...so I don't even know where to start wrt troubleshooting...or what other info to provide here.

Any help would be appreciated!

I am about to return this brand new computer running Vista since it won't connect to my exiting computers on my wireless network. It will however connect to the wireless netork to get out to the internet. Here is what I have:

Brand new computer runnig Vista home premium
Wireless netwrok external netgear ma101 connection that can see the internet (I am using it now).

It can see a windows 2000 computer as well as my laptop running Windows Xp but when I try to connect to those computers it gives me an error message. I googled this problem and disabled my firewalls. I created same user accounts on all with same passords. I also tried same user accounts with no password. neither works. Any suggestion before I return this? i relaly want to make Vista work since it at last looks different (I like new interface - makes my life more interesting - I know VERY SAD).

Any suggestions?

I just purchased a Lexmark X6570 which is wireless enabled. I followed the install instructions using my main desktop system. The install does have you connect a USB cable for part of the installation. My main system is wired to my router. I installed the printer drivers and did wireless setup on one of my laptops. Good news is that the laptop recognizes the printer and prints just fine.

Ok, here is my question. My main system that is hard wired to the router does not recognize the lexmark printer unless I plug the USB cable back into it. If I do that, then the printer does not work for all the other wirelessly connected systems. So does anyone know if I can get this to work without buying a wireless card for my main desktop system?

I was hoping that with my main system connected to the wireless router (wired) that it would work.

Thanks in advance for the help,

Marty

Hello,

I faced a strange issue on wireless network configuration after doing a clean install of Windows 8.1.
I succeeded to find a workaround that maybe helpfull for others but I am still interested to read an explanation of this issue.
So as indicated above, I made a clean install of windows 8.1 pro on a brand new PC I built up myself featuring a Gigabyte Wifi/BT PCI-e card (GC-WB300D) . After the install, the wifi connection from my home router was immediately detected and I saw the icon and indication on the bottom right of the screen "network available" then I right click on it and a bar on the left of my screen appeared. I click in the side bar on the network icon I was willing to connect and I was prompted to enter my login and password rather than the wifi security key so of course the connection to my (home) wifi network failed as the security key was never configured for this connection. I opened up the network and sharing center to find a menu item to configure my connection by keying th security key without success. I worked around this issue by creating a new connection using the same SSID of the connection already detected automatically by windows as there is a field in this menu to enter the security key.
Any explanation ?

Hello everyone,

This is my first post, so I hope I'm doing this correctly. A few months ago, we upgraded our modem/router and got the Cisco DPC 3825. Our internet provider is Cox Communications. We have several laptops in our home and connect to our WiFi with our smartphones fine. However, my laptop is unable to identify this new modem/router. The only way I am able to connect is to be directly connected through a ethernet cable (I think that is what it is called? It looks like a yellow phone cable?).

I'm not very technologically savvy. All I know is that this issue arose after we upgraded to this new Cisco modem-router. Previously, with our old router/modem, I was able to connect to the wireless just fine.

The antivirus software on my laptop is Avast!

Attached is a screen capture of my ipconfig when I am not connected by the ethernet cable, as well as my ipconfig when I am connected (second screen capture). Any help is greatly appreciated.

Edit: Attached is my Xirrus log as well. I hope I am doing this all correctly. Thank you everyone in advance.

Ok, you have the tunnel adaptor problem which is nothing new.

To get rid of all those extra adaptors which is the cause of the connection problem you will need to run the file below which should delete all those extra adaptors.

There is a 32 and 64 bit version, you need to extract the file you need for your system "32 or 64 bit" ... Read more

Here is my situation. Wireless router with wireless extender. Two PCs with wireless USB adapters (PC1 & PC2) and one wireless laptop (LT) on the network. All computers can access the internet. In my network places PC1 and LT can see each other AND also see PC2 which is great. However PC2 cannot see PC1 or LT. Norton antivirus corporate edition is running, XP Pro and all computers have windows firewall enabled. Computers are setup as Static. Why am I have problems with PC2 when all computers seem to have the same settings? Thanks

A:Windows Networking via wireless network issue

In your explanation it is not clear as to what computer is running Norton. Third party firewalls seems to be a big problem when setting up a home network for file and print sharing. That would be my first guess at solving your problem.

Edit:

Sorry, after reading again I see that Norton is anti-virus with Windows firewall running...

I will be away from home over Xmas but I will be remotely logging in to my computer at certain times.

I am worried that my network may go down over xmas, sometimes my pc loses it's network connection and I need to restart the network adapter or do ipconfig / release, renew flush dns

Does anybody have a script or something they use that will restart my network or even my router if it can't access the internet?

I have written a simple batch script that I will schedule but I am hoping someone has something to do this already just incase my script doesn't work!

A:Script to automatically fix network issue?

Have you had any issues before?

The only problem I can see with this is that if the ISP is down, or if your modem or router may have issues then you're screwed regardless of the script.
