Comcast Business Class, Norton Business Suite

Q: Comcast Business Class, Norton Business Suite

I have a person who fears his computer has been compromised, and he's using the "Norton Business Class" (his words, google told me it was Norton Business Suite) software to protect his system. Over the phone, he was able to tell me the firewall detected traffic to his computer after he thought he'd shut it off and gone to work.

I've never used the product, and I'm not finding documentation on how to use the software when I search the net. (I'm finding lots about the service, and standard information about what it includes, features, etc to sell the service. But no particular help documents or user guides.) Does anyone know how to pull the firewall logs from the software so he can send them to me for review?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I need help is there any way to make my internet go faster? 4-5 tech guys have been out in the past month and say everything's good. and use comcast live chat to diagnose then she says she found a problem and fixed it. but my internet should be running faster then 350ping to a Toronto server when i live in colorado right? its terrible.

Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here.

The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like:

If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different!
and your IP will be disguised.

Copy/paste that link here.

Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run.

We recently changed from a t1 to Comcast business class with static address. i want to access my network remotely. Comcast is telling me I need to place another router inside the linksys gateway they gave me and connect to\thru it. In fact when the tech came in he connected the gateway to the router I already had in place and everything seems to work without us doing anything to the internal router. How do I create remote access and vpn connections to my network (this is new to us) through the linksys router to our old router. I am assuming it has something to do with port forwarding, but I'm not sure. My boss doesn't trust the linksys gateway that comcast gave us and want to do as much on our internal equipment as possible. How can I remotely connect to this network? What are my options?

I have a Comcast Business Class Internet connection with one Static IP address. I can use RealVNC client to connect to my computer from outside. As soon as I connect, I can view my suvilliace camera from that pc. Is any way I can connect directly to suvilliance camera from outside without connecting to my pc? The suvilliance camera connects directly to one of the 4 ports of Comast router as well as the my computer.

Can I use the static ip address that Comcast gives to me and assign it to my suvilliance camera? Will it allow me to view camera from outside through web browser since it is global ip address?

A:Setup remote access with Comcast Business Class

In theory, you should be able to do that.

You would need to know what ports numbers are used to access the camera.

You would need the camera to have a static IP address on the LAN side of modem.

The router inside the modem would need to have port forwarding set to forward to the needed ports on the IP address of the camera.

If you need special software on the local computer to view the camera, you would need the same software on the remote computer.

Unless the camera uses some kind of user name / password authentication to access the video feed, anyone on the Internet sniffing the correct ranges of ports and IP addresses will find it and be able to view the video.

Hi Everyone,

I am looking into getting a 24 port gigabit switch.
Specifically this one:
It is managed - web interface which is what i really want.

The problem is I've got very little experience with switches
and corporate class routers etc.

In short I don't know what is good or bad?

Can I get some answers?

1) If the switch says it has 2 shared GBIC ports, what does it mean?
I assume it means out of a total 24 ports 2 of those if we ever use Gigabit would
have to be used by GBIC and thus we would have two less ports?

2) I hear some people mention using routers? I didn't know 24-port or higher routers
were even made? Why would I choose a router over a switch?
I ask because from what I've seen a switch offers the same functionality? Am I wrong?
(Keep in mind I've used dozens of 8-4 port home routers, and i use this to compare to a managed 24-port switch).

My budget is about $400 max. Any suggestions, insight, words of wisdom?

Finally, Thank you. I do appreciate the help given.

Hi, we have Comcast Business Internet in our office and we use one PC and one mac pro with it. When only the mapro is plugged into the modem (standard comcast Modem) we have a ping around 10, 20Mb/sec download and 5Mb/sec upload.
As soon as we plug the PC in, the rate drops dramatically, Ping around 60,
download around 5 and upload around 0.5Mb/sec. After a while the Ping even goes up to 700 or so.
We tried replacing the pc with some other computers, too. So we disconnected the PC, added others instead and the connection did not drop. We tried both, adding a mac and PC to the mapro that is connected to the modem, always with the same result. We disconnected the macro and had only that "bad" pc connected to the modem and the rates were not good as well, ping around 60 and slow upload.
The PC is a hp Pavillon 66 running Windows 7,
The macpro is running OSX Lion, both computers are inautomatic DHCP Setting. We did a Virus check on the PC and it seems ok.
Right now we have no idea where the error with that PC can be found.
As soon as we disconnect this one PC from the modem and restart it, The macpro has very stable and very fast connection ... Any help with that is highly appreciated!

A:Comcast business and one machine slows it down

Hmm...first thing that comes to my mind is the PC's NIC.

If the PC has a lower quality network interface than the Mac, the whole network will throttle down to accomodate the PC. Is this network switched, or do the Mac and PC both plug into the modem directly?

Ok, this is a 2 part question. Timewarner requires authentication by user for outgoing SMTP which precludes using Exchange from sending e-mail. Has anyone else run into this problem? Also they won't allow you to relay off of any other provider as well.

2nd part, Outlook clients currently have both Exchange Profile & POP profile, all incoming comes via the Exchange and outgoing via the POP. This works fine except when you send an internal address & and external address in the same e-mail. Additionally we are getting some e-mails that are going to a Virtual SMTP conduit on the Exchange server when it trys to resolve the @aol.com address or the like.

The clients are running mostly XP with Outlook 2003 but we do have a few Outlook XP & 2000 machines and yes 1 or 2 Outlook 97 clients. We know there are issues with that but it would all go away if we could figure out problem 1.

A:Exchange 2003 & Roadrunner Business Class

1) Where is the domain resolved?
2) What is the domain name?
3) Do you have an MX record configured?
4) Are you using a static IP?

Hello All,

So one of our remote branches has just recently got an extra internet connection installed at their location. The goal being to have any public internet traffic go through the new Comcast Modem and Local/Private traffic will go over our MPLS (*T1).

So I had one of our employees there hop on our private Wi-Fi so I could Remote into their PC (*using VNC) then they plugged their laptop into Port "1" of the Comcast Business Gateway. The Wired connection then got a DHCP address from the Comcast Modem and I was able to get to the Admin Page at I then logged in using the default username and password.

Next, I changed the admin password as Comcast recommends, and then had to log back in again, which I was able to do successfully using the new password. So I know the new password I had setup took just fine.

I then changed the Gateway address to uniform to the current network (*because that location uses 10.99.1.x for Data / PCs, and 10.99.2.x for VoIP). Changing the Gateway address also changed the DHCP Pool as well. After I did that I went to the new Gateway Address in my Web Browser and was able to login to the Admin page just fine again.

Lastly, I inserted a new Static Route to send ALL traffic to the Port address of the Cisco Router the modem was going to to be plugged into.

So, after configuring those settings we unplugged the laptop, then using the same plug we plugged the Modem into our Cisco Router. From the... Read more

A:Can't Login to Comcast Business Gateway from Switch

The Comcast "modem" is actually a modem/router combination unit.

Just a thought--some routers allow only a single login at a time, and the error given for when another login is attempted usually wins no award for clarity. With one router I had even if I turned off the computer I was using if I didn't explicitly logout of the router I could not login from another computer for some period of time. So, is it possible that your first computer is still logged in and that is why the second one is rejected?

I'm trying to setup a Cisco router to use a Comcast cable connection instead of our 3 T1s.

The problem I'm having is I can ping the Comcast SMC Gateway (modem/router) from the Cisco fine (ping 75.xxx.xxx.x89 and 75.xxx.xxx.x90 - comcast gateway) but I can't ping anything else.

I've turned the DHCP portion off on the Comcast SMC device as well as the firewall. If I give my Cisco interface (fa0/1) a static ip address of 10.1.10.xxx I can ping the SMC device fine ( I've also tried to assign my static IP address of 75.xxx.xxx.xxx to fastEthernet 0/1 with and could only ping the gateway but no further.

If I give my laptop a static IP address I can get online fine.

I've checked the SMC device and the port I've connected to my Cisco router is set to 100 Full Duplex.

I've also taken out the 3 route statements and put in this one with no success.

I am contracting myself to set up a firewall and other security measures at a local pharmacy. In doing this, I suggested and purchased Norton 360 Ver. 2.0. I installed it on 3 of the 4 clients successfully, with limited problems, which were quickly overcome. I moved to the server (At the owner's suggestion) and installed Norton, only to wind up with a fully firewalled server. Their pharmaceutical software (The Compounder 3.x, Site Link) Can be fully accessed from the server itself, but none of the clients can access the software. They cannot log into the software, much less access the prescriptions and formulas. The software uses port 3050 and the fixes that enabled the clients to access the server (prior to Norton on the server) did not fix the server itself. Norton support, with the help of Log Me In could not fix the issue. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help!

I noticed a problem today when Norton Antivirus LiveUpdate was "Unable to connect to the server." I have no problem viewing other sites but Norton just won't connect to LiveUpdate. I'm not sure if this could be due to a virus, trojan, spyware, etc.

Another symptom I have noticed is a "slide-up" popup window that appears almost daily from the taskbar when an InstallShield Update Manager icon appears in the taskbar. There is nothing in the popup, it just displays a page similar to what is seen when Internet Explorer is unable to load a page. It disappears after a few minutes. Right clicking on the icon in the taskbar has no effect and does not give me a context menu (to hopefully exit or close it).

Hello. For all you Outlook gurus out there: is there a way to copy information from a non-business contact to a new contact?

For example, I create an personal individual (i.e. - non-business) contact with home address, home phone, etc. I save that contact. A week later I want to add a contact for that individual's spouse where everything is the same - home address, home phone - except for the spouse's cell phone number.

For business contacts I would use the "Save as Same Company" feature, but this does not work for non-business folks because they do not have the Business address populated (or should I say, it didn't work for me).

Any ideas that would make this a simple task?

A:Copy non-business contact info to new non-business contact?

If I have understood correctly, I think this should help...

Create a contact from another contact

You can create a new contact (contact: Person, inside or outside of your organization, about whom you can save several types of information, such as street and e-mail addresses, telephone and fax numbers, and Web page URLs.) from an existing contact by using the existing contact as a template, and then changing any of the information, as necessary.
In Contacts, in Business Cards view, click the contact that you want to use as a template.
Note You can also complete this procedure in the Address Cards and Detailed Address Cards views.
Press CTRL+C, and then press CTRL+V.
In the Duplicate Contact Detected box, select the Add new contact option.
When you save a contact or an Electronic Business Card (Electronic Business Card: A view of specific information about a contact, in a format similar to a paper-based business card, that can be inserted into messages.) with the same name or e-mail name as one that already exists in your Contacts folder, Microsoft Outlook displays a dialog box with options to either add the duplicate contact as a new contact or update the existing contact with the new information from the duplicate contact. To find out more, see Resolve or delete duplicate contacts.
Click Add.
The new contact will appear in Business Cards view next to the contact you copied.
Double-click the new contact to open it, a... Read more

Early July I bought this computer. Everything worked fine for about 1 month. I first noticed that Turbo Lister could not connect to the internet even though I was ON the internet. I checked all my firewall settings (McAfee) and gave it full access. Then I started noticing things like I don't have any drop down menus online and once I have been on the internet things seem to start acting weird. I couldn't drag and drop files from one folder to another, but I could highlight them and hit "send to" and move them.
My biggest concern is that I use Turbo Lister and eBay for a part time business with my son, now I can't do anything. I have tried listing on eBay's "sell" page, but I cannot bring the picture from my computer onto eBay, my computer just sets there at about 35% upload.
I have worn out the tech guy at eBay, he says it must be some sort of software issue on my end. I have done a system restore to the time when this computer was working perfect, with no luck. I have downloaded the driver update from this website to check for any drivers I may be missing - again with no luck.
I have checked Internet Explorer settings (IE8 version: 6.0.2900.2180) and cannot seem to find anything there either. I have thought about reformatting the hard drive to start from scratch, but that would be a major headache I believe.
My OS is XP Professional.
Thank you so much for your help, this has gone on since early August.

So I set up another user account, and my question is...is there any way I can restrict access to my slave drive? I looked all around and I can't find any options for this in XP.

A:This is none of your business

How about encrypting your folders, and setting up your account to require a login? I presume you're using the XP-Pro in your tagline, right?

A:new Business need help

There can be a lot of things that interfere, but these steps are pretty much required. (There should be an extensive tutorial on this in the "Tutorials" section of this forum. But here is a start.)
1) All computers must connect to the same router, (either wireless or wired) and thence to the internet.
2) All computers must be assigned to the same "Workgroup", and have different computer names. In XP Right click MyComputer->Properties then Name tab. In Win7, Rt-Click Computer->Properties-Change Settings (On the right, by "Computer Name".
3) To allow sitting at computer "A" and view/edit files on computer"B", first go to "B", and find the folder you want to share, then Rt-Click->Properties->Sharing. Go back to "A", with fingers carefully crossed, in Windows Explorer, Under "Desktop" select "Network", then on the menu, click View->Refresh.
