'Battery Alert' appears before the 'press 'ESC' key for Start-up menu'

Q: 'Battery Alert' appears before the 'press 'ESC' key for Start-up menu'

First of all: I know that I have been having a problem with my HP Laptop Battery, and with its cooling Fan.
However, I am now wondering what detected this error below as long as it was shown even before the notification saying 'the press 'ESC' key for Start-up menu.' Thus, if the BIOS detected that there was a problem with the HP Battery storage', then this error should have been listed after 'press 'ESC' key for Start-up menu.' was passed.

'HP Battery Alert:
The system has detected the storage capacity of the battery stated below to be very low. For optimal performance, this battery may need to be replaced.'
That alert lasted about 15 seconds, and then the 'press 'press 'ESC' key for Start-up menu.' is shown.

Next: This is error below showed me::
'The system didn't detect that a cooling fan is operating correctly'

I know that BIOS detected that a problem with 'Cooling Fan' since the Alert of error was shown after passing 'press 'ESC' key for Start-up menu.'
Any comments would be highly appreciated

Preferred Solution: 'Battery Alert' appears before the 'press 'ESC' key for Start-up menu'

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have no clue what you mean by start up menu. But that message is from the BIOS.

I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you. You can follow the steps below:
Drain the residual power of your computer and recaliberate the battery by following the steps below:

Power off your computer.
Remove all the external peripherals  (printers, scanners or any other USB device) connected to your computer.
Please remove the AC adapter and battery of your computer.
Press and hold the power button of your computer for 10-15 seconds to drain the residual power.
Release the power button
Keep the battery out for atleast 2 - 3 hours.
Then insert the battery and charge it overnight with the system powered off.
Insert the battery in and connect the AC adaptor.
Then power on the computer and see if it works.

If the issue still persists, you can update the BIOS of the computer.
Note: Make sure the ac adapter is connected and the battery is charged 10% or above to update the BIOS. Also, disconnect all the external peripherals before updating the BIOS. All the programs should be closed and documents saved.

Click on the below link: http://dell.to/Th8z4k
Click on “Download File”.
Select “For Single File Download via Browser”.
Click on “Download Now”.
Save the BIOS on your desktop.
Once the BIOS is downloaded on the desktop, right click on it and select “Run as administrator”.
Follow the prompts on screen and restart your computer.

 Please reply with the findings.

Recently I checked the charging status and it said 3% plugged in, not charging. I tried restarting multiple times and looked for solutions and nothing works. Also, before startup a battery alert pops up saying: HP Battery AlertThe system has detected the storage capacity of the battery stated below to be very low.For optimal performance, this battery may need to be replaced.Primary (internal) Battery (601)ENTER - Continue Startup I tried updating the BIOS and tried using HP Support Assistant to check the Battery Status but when I do it, it says the status of the battery is unknown. I assume this is because my AC is plugged in. But I cannot remove it because my battery is at 3% and will shut down immediately once I remove the AC.I guess at this point I just want to know if I should buy a new battery and replace the current one.

Hello All,
I was wondering how to add the applications appearing on Windows 10 Start Menu to Windows Start Screen, that too in a specific location on the start screen, with a specific tile size and under a specific application group? Do you think it's feasible? I know it's easily done interactively by right clicking the start menu app and pinning it to Start but this has to done for the enterprise users so would like to see if the task could be accomplished using a GPO or Script.
Kind Regards,

Switched to the XP-ish Classic Start Menu, plus Adjust for Best Performance, in the usual prescribed way, no third-party interface-modifiers. All looks & works fine except that the Start button itself looks like TWO buttons -- one atop the other and just slightly out of alignment (screenshot here).

Nothing?s malfunctioning, but it sure looks silly. I haven?t done anything unusual, apart from docking the taskbar on the right side of the screen. What could be causing this, and how can I un-cause it? Would Classic Shell fix this?

Grateful for any clues.

Hi, Try the following. Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and remove the battery.  Follow the procedure on Page 59 of your Maintenance & Service Guide to remove the RTC battery.  When done, hold down the power button for 30 seconds and then leave the notebook for 10 minutes.  Reinsert the RTC battery, replace the covers etc, reinsert the main battery, plug in the AC Adapter and try starting the notebook. If the above doesn't help, shut down the notebook again.  Try tapping away at f10 as you start the notebook to see if this will enter the bios menu.  If it does, under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab, you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory.  Post back with the details of any error messages. Regards, DP-K

Hi all, I use Startisback+ in Windows 8.1 Pro WMC x64, never had any issues (months using it). A:Start Menu appears blank

Not familiar with using this program.
If you tried settings within this program and it did not help, possible program has corrupt or missing files, should have nothing to do with Windows 8 as far as SFC, which fixes system files not other software files. Any system restore points ? If not try reinstall this software.

Not sure what's going on here, but this problem started out of nowhere a couple of days ago.

In order to call up the start menu with the windows key, I need to press and hold the key for at least a full second, then release it.

No other functionality of the window key is being affected and other commands respond as normal (win+D, win+L, etc.) CTRL+ESC also works as normal to call up the start menu.

I don't have sticky or filter keys or any of that stuff enabled.

Any ideas?

In the last build (14328), after a good install and a normal work short period, the All Apps in Start Menu has disappeared. It doesn't appears in Start Menu anymore since then.
I've installed the new build (14332) hoping that this could be solved, but that doesn't happens. I've changed the video driver but that did not work either.

So I'm asking here if anybody has some information about this that could help me to solve it.

I'd suggest booting with a CD like BartPE, Linux or Symantec Ghost and see if any files show up.

Upon getting the System Tool 2011 virus this morning, I was able to delete the unwanted files using the combination of Rkill and Malwarebytes after three attempts.
I just rebooted and my computer is working wonderfully. However, I just clicked on my start menu and I notice that System Tool is still there (and it is highlighted in orange which I think means that it was a recently added program). I think this should be removed, right? I feel that leaving it there might leave a chance for the problem to reoccur. Any ideas? Thanks so much!

I shot a quick video of the issue:

When we switch themes, the orb reappears but functionality does not return to normal, then the orb will disappear again and be replaced with "Start" written in text. No odd group policies are enabled (not that I am aware of), the default theme is aero, the machine is completely up to date. Rebooting temporarily fixes the issue, but returns shortly thereafter to no rhyme or reason. I am grateful for any suggestions.

How do I stop this once and for all, and return to the operation that previously existed?

The notebook is almost 3 years old and worked like a rock until now. Has anybody else experianced this issue, any feedback will be appreciated.

... as well, when I hit 'ctr + alt + del,' a "Task Manager Disabled By Administrator" message shows up. The VIRUS ALERT! shows up beside each scan in the history of performed scans in AVG Anti-Virus as well.

This happened when I installed a cracked copy of TuneUp Utilities 2008. I shall definitely fully uninstall that when I have a start menu back, as I know you do not condone illegal activity. The folder it came in would not delete, but I used KillBox to get rid of it.

Also there is no 'Time Remaining' just a percentage but I think this is a problem that doesn't have a solution.

2. Occasionally my start bar (which I always have set to auto hide) stops hiding. It sits on top of the status bars of my programs and is really annoying. I can't seem to see any pttern to why/when it does it. Sometimes turning off auto hide and then turning it back on will fix it but this doesn't always work.

3. After resuming from sleep MSN/Windows Live won't work. It is still running but it logs me out and won't log back in. It's effectively a dead window that looks like it's running but no buttons work. Only way to get it back is kill it in task manager & restart it.

Hope someone can come up with some ideas?

Thanks a lot

so i have an Advent Laptop for about 5 months now. 2 days ago all of a sudden my L button on my keyboard stopped working. When i press it a j appears. PLEASE HELP,

ps the way i am using a L now is because im pasting it every time i need it

A:Annoying keyboard problem, when I press L, J appears

Replace the keyboard under warranty... or first place the computer upside down and blow out the lint, fiber, and dust out with a canned air such as Dust Off or other that is designed to clean computers... as a first step.
Do not clean with untreated compressed air.
This can be the first sign of a greater problem... so talk to the people were you obtained it.

Hello (Insert Your Name Here :] )

Here's whats going on, My C:\ Drive (Main HD) and D:\ (System Recovery) drives have completely vanished from "My Computer" (along with the icon itself.)

My Start Menu Has Been Altered, "All Programs" is gone, The only thing left are some program shortcuts (most of which have broken extentions/links), "Set Program Access and Defaults" and "Printers and Faxes"

There is also this annoying message next to my clock and in other random side menus and system information menus, that reads, "VIRUS ALERT!"

When it all first happened, Spybot S&D and AVG 8.0 went haywire and started blocking things left and right, I ok'ed them all, but it still managed to infect me. After running scans, i remember a couple specific things that were mentioned, those being, "Vundo" "Zlob" "FakeAlert" "MyWebSearch" and "Heur"

Most System tools were blocked (i.e. CMD, Registry Editor, Task Manager, etc.)I managed to regain control of them.

I tried to run and enclose the Panda thingy, but in IE and FF it would update itself and then right when the scan was about to begin, it would shut the browser down

So, if you can help my seemingly, "doomed", box. It would be much appreciated

Laptop: Dell XPS L702X

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 550M

WIN7 64 bit

All drivers up-to-date.

I have RA2 installed but have to alt tab out and back in again to see any buttons. If I want to go to the internet on RA2 I have to click where I know the button is, alt tab out, go back into RA2 and it will appear. Almost like I need to refresh the screen by alt tab'ing out.

Tried both CD and MP install from the official RA2 XWIS servers. Compatibility tried, and running as admin.

No results, a bit stumped.

Help Appreciated

Subject says it. Just setting up new pc for my wife. Came with XP Home preinstalled but the start menu was the classic. Switched it to the XP start menu (which I've grown to like better) and My Computer, My Network Places and Internet Explorer icons were removed from the desktop. Only recycle bin remained. Switching back to classic puts them back again. Oddly enough, when I was saving a dowload to the desktop (while set up as XP) the My Computer, My Network Places showed in the save to box when pointing at the desktop.

This is my first post here, and my computer appears to be infected.

The Symptoms:
-- The desktop has "disappeared" and is replaced by a blank blue screen. The icons on the desktop are all gone.
-- There is no "bar" at the bottom: no start button, no task bar, no clock, no indications of open programs. i.e., the entire screen is blue.

-- However, the situation is different right after I start-up.
-- At first, I see all my programs. Sometimes I see the task bar and start button, clock, etc., sometimes not.
-- But something is wrong even then. The computer is slow. And I know desktop will not last long. Sometimes if I am quick I can double click on a desktop icon before the desktop disappears.
-- Sometimes there is a "transition" period. For a few seconds I'll see the desktop, then for a few it will go "all blue".
-- When it is "all blue", I can still get into programs. If I open up the task manager, I can click on the "New Task ..." button under the "Applications" tab.
-- I can still work with documents, but thinks are slow.
-- When I start in safe mode, I still have the problem of the missing desktop.

Other Signs:
-- When I can see the clock, it says "VIRUS ALERT!" followed by the time. My google searches inform me that this is a common symptom.

What I have done so far:
-- I've done the Norton "Quick Scan" -- found something the first time, and fixed i... Read more

Good morning,

I have searched this forum and googled but I still need help with the following.

When I start my computer I see a screen for just a second or two that says "Press Esc Key for Startup Menu'. However, when I do this Windows 7 just keeps loading normally.

I have two questions:

(1) Is there any way to make this message screen stay on the screen longer?

(2) Is there a reason the Startup Menu doesn't appear while I am pressing the 'esc' key as directed?

Thanks and regards,

A:Press Esc Key for Startup Menu

1. I'm guessing that is part of the POST screen, so you'll have to check the BIOS of your computer to see if you can alter the amount of time that option is shown.

2. I'm also guessing, if the above is true, that you are using a USB keyboard. You'll want to look through the BIOS to see if you have an option to enabled legacy USB support, or whatever HP may call it.

Since this is an OEM system, you may be limited, or given no options to change either of these settings.

Hello  I'm using HP 250 G3 , i've got a problem here the screen on my laptop is blank and there's also a message saying that " Press the ESC for Startup Menu " , i would be very glad if i can be assisted .When i press the key ESC nothing happens

A:Press the ESC key for Startup Menu

Hello, Welcome and thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. Since you experience such an issue this may be harware problem. The Esc button should not be pressed once only in order to triger the HP Startup menu. - Please, shut down your PC.- Press the power on button to start the computer and immediately keep hitting the Esc button (like tap-tap-tap). If everything is normal, you should see HP StartUp menu with further options F1, F2, F9, etc....  If the above doesn't work, please repeat the procedure. If it works, go ahead.Once the HP StartUp menu shows press F2 for system diagnostics and follow the on-screen instructions to perform System test >>> QUICK test. More information can be found here>> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03467259>> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03467259#AbT1 It should check these components:    Battery check    Processor check    System board check    Hard drive SMART check    Hard drive short DST check    Memory quick check Please, let me know the results.  - If you did try everything above and it does not work, eventually please, review these 2 HP official articles about such issues you experience now. Follow the appropriate steps that fit your case to attempt to fix the issue:>> http://support.hp.com/bg-en/document/c03518165>> http://support.hp.com/us-en/docum... Read more

My PC now starts but becomes stuck at the press esc for startup menu screen. I have looked at other similar post, most about laptops and followed relevant advice in regards to removing the hard drive and replacing and removing the internal battery but nothing has made a difference. Any help is much appreciated!

When I click on the START menu, why is there no path for me to be able to look at say, C:/my documents/my pictures etc...There is nothing there like it is in other Windows programs I have used.

Also when I right click on a program and try to "pin to start menu", there is no option for that, only the shortcut option.

What's up with these things?
