I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I always thought CDROMs didnt need drivers. Have you tried installing it and seeing if it works? If that doesnt work, try putting in a generic driver and see if it works. You should search WinDrivers.com and see if you can find anything. I hope that helped

I posted on here about my problem a few weeks ago but I didn't get a e-mail notification about any reply, so the topic got canceled. I apologize. I'm a noob to this forum lol. Anyways here's my dilemma...

I ran Malwarebytes after I had a blue screen crash. Malwarebytes found a Trojan.Patched under system32\drivers\cdrom.sys and an Exploit.Drop under windows\temp\wpbt0.dll. I had them both removed and quarantined. Now my cdrom doesn't work because the driver is missing. After doing some research I tried uninstalling my cdrom and restarting, but that isn't working. I'm trying to figure out how to get my cdrom driver back. I would like to somehow clean my cdrom.sys file because I can't find a replacement for it.

For the record, I restored the cdrom.sys file today and ran a ZeroAccess Removal tool just to see if it could clean it. It didn't even find anything.

Any help fixing this problem would be appreciated. I will make sure to adjust the notification settings this time so I can know when to respond. Thanks.

For about the past week, it has not been loading the driver (s) for the dvd drive. And it says, error loading driver.

I tried fixing through device manager by deleting the driver, and trying download from toshiba, with no effect. When I restart the computer, it just tries to load the old driver.

In the good ol days, I know that you could delete a driver out of windows, and copy/paste a new one into the drivers file. When I tried that under Windows Vista, I got a ......I didn't have permission to do that, regardless of whether I was the admin or not!

Ok, heres the news,
I ledt my computer at my apartment with my girlfriend over christmas. Upon returning the Dvdrom (Generic - JLMS XJ-HD166S) and my HP CD-Writer 9100i series burner(i know its slow, but its stead.), had suddenly vanished.
I checked the drivers and to no surprise they had errors but reinstalling the drivers did nothing. Uninstalling the drivers then reinstalling them also failed, an error with drivers during the installation being blamed. Getting the all types of drivers have yielded nothing, and in at my wits end.

My o/s is xp pro, I attempted to reinstall the windows standard drivers, with no luck. I also grabbed a spare harddrive with xp home, to see if those drive would work, but no luck.

Hello, I own an HP Envy desktop prebuilt system (h8-1534), and each time at startup now Event Manager displays the following message: The driver \Driver\UBHelper failed to load for the device SCSI\CdRom&Ven_hp&Prod_DVD-RAM_GH82N\4&1535927f&0&000200. According to Device Manager, the driver is for the hp DVD-RAM GH82N SCSI CdRom Device. Naturally, as the driver is failing to load, my first instinct was to find an upgrade to it. I'm unable to roll back to a previous driver, as this is the only driver that has ever been used. Unfortunately I am unable to cite the exact driver version that I have, as this system has been upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 Home and then 10 Pro, so the driver version now matches the OS version as displayed in Device Manager. I do know that the release date for my current driver should be accurate, which is listed as 6/26/2006. I have not flashed the BIOS in this machine to upgrade firmware, so that may be needed, but I am uncertain whether or not it is related, as the only hardware change that has occurred has been an upgrade to the graphics card, as the old one failed. I have searched online for this driver (see above) and was hoping to obtain an update (should one exist) directly from the source - HP. I found several sites that advertised having a similar driver, but I tend to only trust the actual manufacturer. Someone please help, is there an update to the driver I current have a... Read more

hi
Yesterday I went to a store and got a new motherboard,CPU,RAM and powersupply.

When I got home I wanted to test the computer but had a problem. My operating system didn't found a CD-rom. I have 2 optical drives. An AOPEN CDR/CDRW writer (40x12x48x) and a NEC dual layer DVD writer.

Next I tried to use a boot disk from WIN98SE but when I selected to boot WITH CD-ROM support I got a message that the Device driver was not found. And I could not select my CD-ROMS.

When I go to the BIOS the drives are found. Both drives are found by the BIOS.

When I insert a WIN98SE disk in the cd-rom I get a message asking if I want to boot from HARD DISK of from CD-ROM. When I choose CD-ROM and then I choose the start Win98 from CD I get the same message.

Somehow the drivers for my optical drives are not found. Why not? And how can I solve this problem.

The hard disk comes from my old computer. Its a Maxtor 7200rpm 60GB.

Please help...
Thanks in advance

Peter

Have you checked your jumper settings on the drives?

Hi there from a new member and first post.

I would welcome any advice that you can give on a problem with Sony Vaio VGN-CS11S. I am sorry but this will be a long question as I have tried so much to rectify this issue.

First of all I have to say that this is a self inflicted problem! I hate the preinstalled Windows VISTA on the SONY and decided to go back to XP with a full version SP3 disc that I have. I could not get XP to install and so decided to strip the HDD and go for a clean install. After unsucessful attempts to format the HDD I used Darik's Nuke and Boot to do a full clean of the system. My error as i realise now is that I did not create XP or Vista recovery discs (yes I know!)

I have changed the BIOS to fire the CD Rom first then HDD

After doing this I put the XP disc in expecting things to fire up - however what happens is that I get an error message non system disc or disk error replace and press any key.

I have tried this CD on other machines and it fires up fine and allows me to search the CD ROM.

I then thought that if I could get a command prompt this could work. So I downloaded DOS 6.22 onto a CDROM. When I put this in it fires up and is looking for BANANA driver which it cannot find and therefore says install aborted BUT it does give me the a: prompt. The message I get at this point is 'device driver not found BANANA' No valid CD Rom drivers selected

I have gone into C: and set up a partition and active partition and downloaded DOS onto ... Read more

I am using a Gateway (!!!!!!!ack!!!!!!), Pentium II, 266 MHz, operating off of Windows 95 (I know...I think this could be my big problem). About 6 months ago, I installed a CDRW. I made the harddrive the primary master....the CDRW the secondary master and the CDROM the secondary slave.

I had a software conflict (Roxio's Easy CD creator) that would not let me burn...but didn't take the time to fix the problem....didn't have any CD's to burn. This weekend, I noticed that neither my CDROM nor my CDRW was being detected. I went into the device manager and updated the drivers. My background was wiped out (don't know if that's relevant) but both drives were recognized. Once I restarted my computer, neither were recognized again.

Upon going in and updating driver after driver, I've somehow managed to disrupt the hard disk controllers. I have no hardware documentation, so I've just been screwing around with it until I could Windows to start correctly. But now, the only things being recognized are the floppy and harddrive. Under hard disk controllers, I have about 12 controllers going.

I've opened the case, all the cables are connected properly and not loose. I've gone into the BIOS, everything is set up correctly in there as well and ALL drives are recognized.

I've been up for two days trying to fix this and am going nuts, not to mention, my eyes are crossing and I'm not comprehending anything and I'm sure I've... Read more

A:CDROM/CDRW/Hard disk controller and driver problems

Delete everyone of those controllers. The last controller should be the parent controller. What you may want to do is go to Gateway's website and enter your serial number and download the IDE drivers. Have them extracted and the folder with the executable or setup open along side Device Manager. I don't know what the drivers are, that is what the chipset is. The drivers may come with Windows 95 but I doubt it.

I am not sure which will come first. Try installing the drivers first and then delete the controllers and shut your system down completely. OFF. 5-10 seconds, turn it back on and when you come back up the primary will be installed and it will ask you to reboot. DONT. When you cancel that, the secondary IDE controller will install. Again it will ask you to restart. GO Ahead and do it. It should fix your problem.

When you delete the parent device above the primary and secondary controllers, your system may freeze. If it does restart.

Was it like this from the repair shop? If so, return to them with a request for a fully functioning machine, as you were expecting one after paying them for their services.

If this came about since then, let us know. There are various things to try. (One might be to pop open the case and be sure the cable(s) didn't fall off in transport.) Can you see it in BIOS?

I recently received a hand-me-down pc with a CDRom/DVD which worked fine. It runs on Windows 2000 sp4. I installed a CDRom-RW from my older computer and since then have not been able to read cds. The computers registers that they exists, states that the correct drivers are installed but when I put in a cd rom and click on the icon, I get the message: "The disk in drive E: is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?" Both drives, (E and F), give the same message with their respective drive letters no matter kind of CD in input.
The drives are installed master and slave correctly. Both drives will play music cds just fine.

My Windows 7 Professional "Explorer" tree (not Internet Explorer) no longer lists my CD/DVD ROM DRIVE under the Device Manager/Drives. It used to.

I've checked the System Registry and it has lots of info about that ATAPI drive, but my system fails to find the "cdrom" driver (which is the one Windows 7 uses by default). It's not a 3rd-party driver.

The tray on my CD/DVD drive opens and closes properly. Windows just won't recognize the drive, so I can't use it.

bios settings shouldn't cause the computer to lock as you describe, but who knows.

I would suspect the cable, either bad or connected backwards, the red stripe on cable must go to pin 1.

Also double check that the jumpers are not set the same as the other device, only one master and one slave per cable

Also whatever ide channel you are adding the drive to should be set to auto or cdrom in the bios.

Hi:

I've had experiences with a number of BTC CD_ROM drives of variable speeds. These relatively inexpensive drives manufactured by Behavior Tech Computer Corp. are not the world's most reliable. I've heard them squeek, sputter, gasp, wheeze, and groan on numerous occasions in quite a few systems that I've repaired. Your best bet is to junk that clunker and purchase either a new and different CD-ROM drive from another manufacturer or get yourself an up-to-date DVD or CD/RW drive made by a reputable company with a solid history of reliance. I'm not going to suggest a manufacturer, but if you do a little online investigation, you'll come up with your own choice. Good luck.

Hey guys! I have a problem. I have an old 4x Creative CD-RW that will only function as a CD-ROM. No burning. In the Properties, it says it is a DVD/CD-ROM Drive, and there is no way for me to change it. Is there a way to update a driver or something to get it to be seen as a burner?

Help!

A:CD-RW seen as CDROM

shelly 231,
Is the device displayed in the Device Manager?

To check that -

Right click on My Computer->Properties->Device Manager. See if you can find the CDROM there. Click on the + and see if the correct make and model are dsiplayed. Also what make is the Cdrom?

Were you able to access the drive earlier? Are you using any tweaking programs?

Q: cdrom

Playing a CD in CD_ROM player (Laptop), fails about half way thru, (error MSG. dirty or scratched CD) on all Cd's. Reloaded Driver, works for about 2 or 3 min. then fails again.
Reloaded Driver 3 or 4 times, same results, question is, hardware problem, or deeper software tbl?? any thoughts on this
Thanks in advance

it may be some dirt on the laser in the drive. Try buying a laser cleaner disk and see if that helps. A dirty laser will cause the same problem as a dirty disk.

Q: Cdrom

After a factory restore and installing various programs, my cdrom has quit reading all media. I have removed upper filters and lower in registry. This happened once before and an overpriced tech fixed this problem over wifi.
He told me there were to many drives reporting and the system didn't know which was the correct driver. He of course did the removal of those drives behind the scenes so I could not follow what he did. Know it's happening again.

Question is how do I find and remove those drives so the system will recognize the drive?

A:Cdrom

Your post is a bit confusing. Please restate being careful to differentiate between drives and drivers.

Not too much you can do about this.

Try cleaning the drive, but chances are it's dead. Time for a new drive.

I HAVE AN HP, ABOUT 2 YRS OLD AND WHEN I PUT IN A CD I TRY TO OPEN IT BUT AN ERROR COMES UP AND TELLS ME THAT IT CAN ACCESS THE CDROM AN D THE DRIVE IS NOT READY..HOW DO I FIX..THANX

A:Cdrom

The drive could need cleaning, it may have failed, or a cable may be loose or disconnected inside the case. Did you move the pc lately? It's obviously getting power since you can insert a cd, but that doesn't mean the drive hasn't failed.

First thing I would try is cleaning the CD. You can use a regular CD cleaner if you have one or can get one. If cleaning it several times doesn't help, open the case and check the cable connections to the drive and motherboard. If the connections are good, try finding another drive that you can try in your machine.
