SD Card Error - File Extensions Changed, Error 0x80070570

Q: SD Card Error - File Extensions Changed, Error 0x80070570

First timer here, so please bear with me. Any help you can offer is MUCH appreciated!

Some of the files on my SD card have changed file extensions and appear corrupted (the modified dates are wonky and the file sizes are off). For example, a file that was formerly IMG_3324.JPG is now MG_3324J.PG, and I can't open, copy, or rename the file. When I try, I receive Error 0x80070570: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.

I have gone into Properties>Tools>Check. I receive the following: "We found errors on this drive. To prevent data loss, repair this drive now." However, when I click Repair Drive, I just receive the error, "There was a problem scanning and repairing this drive..."

Most of the files on the SD card are readable and work just fine. I was able to copy them to another location; however, there are about 60 or so corrupted files that I would like to repair (I don't want to lose the pictures!).

Also, any ideas what causes these errors? I want to make sure I don't repeat this in the future :-/

I'm running Windows 10, and the SD card is a Dane-Elec Proline 4GB card.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,

I had a problem logging into Skype (I/O error) and followed the steps in their trouble shooting advisory. Everything worked fine, until I wanted to delete (following the instructions) the roaming file with my user name (C:\Users\<your_windows_username>\AppData\Roaming\Skype) .. with adding my user name of course
Although I've restarted my laptop I keep on getting the message: error 0x80070570 the file is corrupted and unreadable

So what am I supposed to do now?

Please, please help me.

Thank you

As a beginner with an old desktop tower using Windows xp, I have been scanning photographs with a Epson CX8400 into the "my pictures" folder.
When I try to put a caption below the photos a window opens and says that I if I change the file extension it will elimate the photo.
And it does. Every link to "rename photo" produces that same message.
Will it mess up my other computer files if I follow the instructions I read elsewhere to go to control panel and uncheck or change file extensions?
Is there any other means of getting the captions written without the "extensions error" notice coming up?

I was installing Norton Security and it locked up during install.
\
When I rebooted, Norton had changed all my files extensions from exe to lnk

As a result none of the programs or files work. After reading a lot, I tried to

restore my registry. Since Norton changed the files, any command in run does not work. I comes up with a dialog asking for a file association.

Any one with an answer, I would appreciate very much.

Hi,
one of our users recently had all his files changed to a strange format. For example if a word file is named "Committee.DOCX" then it would change to "Committee.DOCX.isycjje". All the MS files as well as pdf files are changed to that extension of " .isycjje". I tried applying several anti-malware programs as well as mounting the drive to linux with no avail to retrieve sucess.
Any one faced with this issue recently , please advise suggestions.

Hello, and thank you in advance for your help.  I have a laptop that seemed to have gotten infected with a nasty virus that took over the screen, and asked for payment from Spamhaus of all places.  Having seen things like this before, I ran a slew of anti-virus that I've used to remove viruses before.  I ran Malwarebytes, Super Anti-Spyware, and finally Combofix.

After I ran combofix (there were 2 deletions), I reboot the laptop and viola, no more taking over the screen.  However, I have a directory in which I keep all my important work files for dropbox that it seems to have changed all the files into html files.  Each file has ".html" slapped onto the end of it, and when you open it, directs you to another ransomwear page labeled Spamhaus.  I've tried snipping off the .html, but the files don't open correctly.

If I lose these files I'm in big trouble.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have deleted the extension .cpjevac from the name allowing it to change to .jpg file and when doing so the file icon changes as the application that is compatible with .jpg. After opening the file it just says "The file may be unsupported, damaged or corrupted"

does anyone know what I can do for this. I have searched so many places have not found anything at all.

I have booted in safe mode and ran virus scans just to clean the system, But no change of the files at all.

Hi,

My husband's computer has major problems. Every executable program file has been changed to a file type .LNK and nothing will open! I am able to right click and select which program to open with, but this only works for a few programs as I am not able to locate all the files needed. Norton Internet Security seems to have disappeared from the computer and the Windows Restore will not work. In fact, any file with a .EXE file extension doesn't seem to be working (which is just about everything...)

Anyone know what is causing this?? Any help would be appreciated...the sooner the better so I can get his WoW working again.

Thanks

PS: I was able to run Ad-Aware & Registry Mechanic, but it didn't make a difference. The Restore function of Registry Mechanic will not work either.

While working on some Microsoft Word Documents, with MS Word Starter (free version), all file icons and extensions everywhere in the computer changed.

Icons in some Word documents with .docx extensions changed to a plain orange (attachment 1), while retaining the same extension. When double clicked to open, a microsoft window appears asking me to activate the full Microsoft Office 2010 (paid version), which is in Widows 7 by default. These documents are not opening.

The rest of the Word documents changed their extensions from .docx to .rtf (attachment 2). Their icons also changed from the usual Word document icon. These open with Word Satarter but in Compatibility Mode, which did not happen before.

The option to 'Open with' in the right click menu does not show Word Starter in the pop up window (Attachment 3). Not even when 'Other programs' are selected.

I did a repair to the Word Starter from the Control Panel, to no avail. I have a few hundred Word documents in my libraries which are now in a total mess!

What can I do?

Hi there, ok this is my problem. I had a problem with getting in to safe mode I needed to delete some files that I didn't need any longer for a program I don't use.
SO I went online and found this artical http://www.aitechsolutions.net/winxpnoboot.html It was perfect for the problem I was having (So I thought).
I was following the instuctions untill i got to the section titled Restore base registry hive files from original installation It said NOT to overwrite any files or folder, but I didn't read that correctly so when it prompted me to replace files I said yes.
That's when the problems began. Didn't realize until I when to restart out of commad prompt mode that it looked funny like it was in safe mode but it wasn't then when I tried to log in as Admin there was a pop up that said Error Code 0x80004005 Window Product Activation.. So I restarted in safe mode to see if that would help, it actually got to safe mode this time, but I couldn't back up any of my files, it said I didn't have permission. .
I went back to see if I had followed the steps correctly for the most part I had, but the system.bak was a different size from the first time I checked it.
Honestly I don't know what to do now, at the least I want to beable to Backup my files, if anyone can help, I will be extreamly greatful.

New HP7900 DC. No cards, only whats on the board. COre 2 Duo E8400 at 3GHz. Using 2mb stick in channel 1 only. Memtest x86 checks out fine. DVD and SATA HDD set to IDE. Digital river ISO's burned at 1x speed. USB drive failed. Created multiple USB's with the Microsoft USB burner on 64 bit machine as well. Installed 32 bit and downloaded MS Upgrade tool. Shows hardware is 64 bit capable. Not sure what else to do. Is there a preferred ISO that seems to work best? Halts at 27% Also tried the start on DVD switch to USB and the restart trick to no avail. I'm about ready to just say the heck with it and keep the 32 bit that came with the machine. Oh, I also reformatted the HDD.

Am I missing anything?

hi. I have 3 possibly related issues.

1- Recently I've had multiple cursor/arrow freezes after I close my laptop and reopen it. This requires me to go into Task Manager, close everything down and reboot.

2- I'm still use a hard drive based email (Eudora) and have large files . When I rebooted for a cursor freeze last night, I got this error "could not open the file c:\Eudora\in.mbx for writing. Cause: The request contains an invalid argument (22).? Every so often my mailboxes get too large and I have problems, and in the past I was able to create a new inbox.

3- When I tried to rename the inbox or cut and paste it elsewhere so as to create a new one, I got this message "An unexpected error is keeping you from renaming the file" and "Error 0x80070570: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."

I've ran System Mechanic several times and have had no issues other than these for the 2 years I've had my X1 carbon, running Windows 7.

Thanks.

Hello,

Im currently running Windows XP Home Edition 32-Bit and I just downloaded Windows 7 Professional Upgrade 64-bit. I downloaded the ISO from Digital River which was part of the ultimate steal for students. Then I downloaded the Windows 7 DVD/USB Download Tool and made a bootable usb drive with the ISO on it. I booted from the USB drive and the first part went fine. I chose install now then custom install and then installed it on the drive partition containing XP. It got to about 54% on "unloading files" before it gave me an error 0x80070570. It said the media was corrupted or something and said to make sure all the installation files were there and then restart again. So I tried again, no cigar. I dont really know what to do now!

As im typing this im re-copying the ISO onto the USB Drive a 2nd time to see if it will work now.

Thanks for any help

A:0x80070570 Error

Hi Solidsteel,

You are on the right track, by recopying across the installation media.
Here are some other avenues to look into should your fix not work. If it's possible, run check disk on both your Windows install drive and your usb drive. Also de-fragment both if you can. The error you mentioned is due to corrupt files; but at this early stage (without digging deeper) we don't know where the corruption is. i.e. It could be:Your win 7 install files might be corrupt (this you are now looking into by recreating the installation media)
Your usb drive may have a corrupt partition (run chkdsk /R /X from an elevated command prompt to fix)
The usb drive could be failing
Your Operating system hard drive could have a corrupt partition (chkdsk /R /X), or could be failing
Either drive may be too fragmented for windows to access the files quick enough

Also, can you please confirm if you ran the windows 7 upgrade advisor prior to installing windows 7?

Aaaargh! I successfully installed the 32-bit windows 7 on my computer, upgrading it from windows XP. I spent an hour realizing how awesome the new OS is before deciding i needed to reformat to be sure i was rid of all spyware/malware. After trying to do the clean install, I keep getting the "Windows cannot install required files" error right when the install starts "expanding". It goes to 1% and then stops. I am installing this from an ISO off of a 4GB flash drive.
Here's what I have tried so far:
Redownloading and rewritting the flash drive (several times)
Updating the BIOS drivers
Restarting the installation without a reboot
Running chkdsk on the flash drive

None of these things have worked for me. I know that it has been suggested to set the hard drive (i think..) to SATA or AHCI, but this goes right over my head. Any help would be great

Is there anything else to try?

A:Error 0x80070570

I looked that up- It's an old error - From Vista days. Does this happen with WinRAR from every folder? It sounds like a permissions thing, but I would not mess with folder permissions in Windows 8 unless I had to. But you can make a "downloads" folder, and set the permissions to "Administrators" for that and see if it still happens. From there we can figure out were to go.

You can also try "unlocker" - You can get it at Major Geeks. It detects as a virus in some AV but it is safe. It has to take ownership of the object you use it on, sometimes AV apps detect that ability as a virus.

I dug around more, and it seems like this is a common problem when INSTALLING Windows 7 (And Probably Windows 8 as well as it uses some of the same installation steps).

The best I can find, is that you have some kind of Install process that never completed right, and it's still running, locking out access to the drive. That just from the bits and pieces of the discussions I found. There is no MS Technet discussion of it. Microsoft like to name and number these errors, just to identify that there have been 80,070,570 (80 MILLION) kinds of Windows Errors. They assign a 0x800... number but never tell you what the frell it MEANS.

Move or copy? Try moving (or copying) smaller groups of files, maybe 3 or 4 folders at a time. This will give you a better insight as to whether a certain file is causing the error (ie. corrupted file), or if it's the micro card, with a bad spot or something on it (although this is very rare on an SD card).

For the latest point I don't know if it will work, because I have 1GB+2GB memory and not 3x1GB. Does it work with 1x2GB?

Yes, removing RAM sometimes works. Remove the 1GB stick and see if you can install. If not, move the 2GB to another slot and try again.

Hello,

I recently built a rig (spec below) and originally installed windows 7.

I decided today I would install windows 8.1 as I get it for free from my university. I booted the installation disc in EFI mode, wiped the SSD and deleted all partitions. I let windows create the partitions it needs and proceeded to install.
The installation got up to 2% in expanding windows files and showed error:
Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure that all files required for installation are available and restart the installation. Error code: 0x800070570.

I rebooted and tried again several times and the same thing happened whether I chose EFI cd boot or not.

I then reinstalled windows 7 without any issues, and downloaded an 8.1 pro disc image from mydigitallife. The installation got a little further into expanding windows files, but the same error came up again.

Ive been reading that it may be a memory issue so i'm the process of reinstalling windows 7 and running memtest86+, but I doubt this is the case as its a mew system and windows 7 has no trouble

If anyone can shed any more light on why I am having this problem I would be much appreciated

A:SETUP error 0x80070570 Tried almost everything HELP

Hi Mike,
Will the error message be the same everytime? Are the failed installation media from the same resources?
For the error 0x80070570, I found it may be related to the BIOS settings. We can try to reset the BIOS to have a check. Apart from this, we can unplug the add-ed RAM to have a troubleshoot considering this is the only change we have made.

I am currently on Windows 7 and am trying to upgrade to Windows 10 before the window closes.  I am receiving numerous errors that seem to be changing.  The current error is 0x80070570.

A:Error 0x80070570 updating Win 10

I recommend you to use the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool for upgrading.
Download the tool and use the ISO file.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10?wa=wsignin1.0
If you don't want to do that you can run the System File Checker tool.
Start --> Run --> cmd and press the Enter button.
Type sfc /scannow
Then try to perform the upgrade process again.

Been getting this error for the past few days. I have tried just about every recommendation I've seen on this error; Ive gone through 8 sticks of RAM, multiple ISO's and burns, USB install, different DVD drives, removing all extra USB devices, 2 video cards, multiple HDD's, canceling the install before it errors out and then restarting, all without luck. Anybody have any other ideas? Using a Maximus IV Extreme Z, no overclock.

A:Win 7 0x80070570 install error

Use 2gb of RAM for install. Test your RAM using memtest86 for 5-6 passes or overnight. Then when known good, test good stick in all slots to test slots: RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Where did you get the ISO? Try slow burning DVD at 4x speed with ImgBurn once you confirm the ISO hash against official Win7 HASH: Windows 7 RTM SHA-1 hash - checksums.
Win7 SP1 hashes are on TechNet Download page under details for each download and accessible even if not subscriber.

Next try writing ISO to flash using this simple tool with Win7 in dropdown: Universal USB Installer – Easy as 1 2 3 | USB Pen Drive Linux

Next check for BIOS update for mobo. If none, reset the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS.
While in BIOS setup set SATA controller to AHCI to try install.

Next try wiping the HD for possible boot corruption: SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

As a last resort, move HD to another computer to install. SysPrep install before moving back to problem computer: SysPrep to move HD to another computer

Hello everyone, kind of new here but I am basically DESPERATE for help! When installing windows 7 Home Edition 64bit, my computer finishes the "Copying Windows files" in 1 second, and then goes off to the "Expanding Windows files" part. Once it is at 50%(every time), my computer says an error code and a message about corrupt files ect(Error code: 0x80070570). I have been struggling after trying to format my desktop for a clean install of Windows 7 Home Edition 64bit. Truly I have searched for solutions everywhere through these forums including the following:removing RAM(bad memory), changing modes from SATA to AHCI, cancelling the install and without rebooting restart the install, and putting down the graphics to 640x480. It has been quite a pain and ruined my weekend and I was hoping that someone else could propose a new solution since nothing has worked. Instead of using a cd, I am using a USB(changing boot priority in the bios to USB, changing the USB to NTFS format ect...), since I currently do not have a SATA CD reader. Any new suggestions would be great, Thanks! Hi Experts,

I have Dell 15r, which runs on win 7 home basic, i recently started using toshiba hard disk,
i have some files in the external hard disk when i try to move them or delete them i will get this kind of error message.

Error : 0x80070570 The file or Directory is corrupted and unreadable.

Kindly let me know how to delete or move these files.

Thanks in advance.

A:0x80070570 error says cant copy

You could start by running the Disk Check utility on the drive:

Start > Computer > select (highlight) the drive > right click & Properties > Tools Tab > Error Checking > Check Now > Check "Automattically Fix File System Errors" > Start.

You could also check "Scan and Attempt Recovery of Bad Sectors", but this will take much longer, especially on an external drive.

Most times I run the standard scan and then if it finds errors I run it with all options checked. But in your case you might just "cut to the chase" as they say.

Hello everybody, I have already read lot's of 0x80070570 threads and I think my case is sort of different here. I'm using a ASUS P5VD1-X motherboard, Pentium 4 3GHz, 1Gb RAM, Geforce 7600 GS. I had success on installing Windows 7 first, but I had to format the computer short after because of a virus that disabled any antivirus and firewall. Then, when I formatted the computer and tried to install Windows 7, i just have this error 0x80070570 at 4% of Expanding data. The problem is not in the DVD, as i had it installed a short time before. I can't understand why can't I install it now! I tried disabling all USB ports but it didn't work. I do not understand a lot about hardware but I can find things out with a little time. Hope someone can help, thanks a lot.

A:error 0x80070570, i don't understand

so are you unable too boot to disk now? Do you have the option to "format" again?
were you using multiple partitions?

first of all sorry for my bad English..

I have downloaded windows8 developerPreview-32bit-English (2.8 GB) successfully..
made a bootable USB and tried to install (fresh install).
when it comes to expanding files at 57% it gave error code:0x80070570 and tried again.
same error..
tried to install on VMWare, Virtual Box directly with ISO..
same error.
on the other system with different configuration..
and again same error..

so, i searched on google. only the solution there may be problem with ISO is to re-download ISO..
but my net speed is very very low (download sppeds upto 12 kbps).
i downloaded it 2.8 with great difficulties.. (took 5 days to download.)

i can't download it again..

is there any alternate solution like rebuilding the ISO with working files.
is it possible to know which files of ISO are corrupted and replace them with working files..

pls help...

I am on an Inspiron 1525 with Windows Vista. I've had it for about a month and it hasnt given me any problems. But for the last couple days my computer has not been letting me move, copy, paste, or delete files.
When I to do any of these things this message popup appears:

"An unexpected error is preventing the operation. Make a note of this error code, which might be useful if you get additional help to resolve this problem:
Error 0x80070570: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable"

Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Preferably a step by step process, if there is one?? Thanks to anyone who has any input.

I tried to update my son's laptop with the latest "Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 (KB3213986)", but after downloading the update I got : Error code: (0x80070570). The same thing happened with the December Cumulative Update and I thought that Microsoft would fix this in the January update? Apparently not. At all other computers at home there was no problem with the update. Any solutions?

Hi everyone. First post here because I?m getting really frustrated with this error message. Error code: 0x80070570. I?ve tried searching around on the internet for a fix but I?m not coming up with a lot that pertains to my situation. I am clean installing a copy of Windows 7 professional x86 on an HP DV6700 laptop. This is an actual release copy obtained through Microsoft store front download. Everything works great when booting from the DVD until it starts expanding files. It has gotten as far as 49% before giving the error. Always seems to be a random number, I?ve tried probably 4 times.
I am positive that the disc is not corrupt because I installed Windows 7 without any problems using the same disc on my desktop. I have deleted every partition on the HP except for the recovery partition it comes preinstalled with. My next option is to delete this too but I would rather not. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this issue?
I also have another semi-related issue that I would love input on if anyone has any idea. After Windows 7 was unsuccessful I attempted to recover Windows Vista using the recovery partition. Everything installed fine until it tried to reboot. Now I get an error message ?Missing boot manager? and only an option to restart the computer. I?m afraid this is going to happen even if I get windows 7 to install so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I tried installing Windows 7 64bit on my new build (new HDD) everything was going as expected, but when it got to about 10% "expanding files" I got the error msg in title. When I clicked "ok" it took me back to the "Intall Now" screen where I figured I'd click that again (no reboot) and went through the steps until I got to the "Where do you want to install windows?" part. However, it now shows to locations instead of just one.

Hi,
I need help with my computer... Well, I think it's my computer. Basically, I video'd something the other day on my panasonic camera, and when I went to turn it off, it said something like "Could not save file as speed of SD card is not available" or something like that...
But when I went to put the rest of my videos on my computer that file was on the SD Card, so I tried to add it to my computer...
This was when the error code 0X80070570 and it said "The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable...
But I tried to play it on Windows Media Player and it plays fine... THe only thing different is on the seek bar thingy it comes up with 00:00 so you can't go forward or backward, but it still plays fine...
If possible I would really like to fix the error, because the corrupted video is something that I'd ideally like to have. Is there any way of fixing this?
I know you may not be able to help, because of it starting off on the camera, but if you can I would be hugely greatful!!!
Jess.

A:Error: 0x80070570 but can still watch the video?

Backup all files from the card, then reformat the card. The directory is corrupt and will continue to corrupt files because it cannot properly save them. As for saving the video if it works it works. Download a free video converter and try to convert it to flv or mp4 and see if that fixes anything but create a copy first, it's a corrupted file so it could become unreadable if you tamper with it.
