Laptop doesn't detect internal display.

Q: Laptop doesn't detect internal display.

I have a Toshiba satellite a500.

The display stopped working about a week ago, and had not shown any previous signs of failing before then. I simply shut it down, and the next time it turned it on the screen had no display.

It can't detect it's LCD screen in any display options, and all brightness options have disappeared, as if it doesn't exist at all. There's no display on the screen, but other than that it still runs normally. For now, the laptop is only detecting the external monitor I have connected, which it designates as the primary display, rather than a secondary one.

However, I'm positive that it's not a hardware failure (for a weird reason I won't go into..), any advice on how to fix this, assuming that the problem is that the laptop isn't detecting the internal display? ( and not that it's a loose cable or a faulty screen..)

Preferred Solution: Laptop doesn't detect internal display.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm trying to connect my XPS 15 to my TV through an HDMI. I've done Win + P and tried to extend / duplicate the screen, but it doesn't work. I went to the control panel and found out my computer isn't recognizing the HDMI is plugged in. I've tried a few different cables and TV's, but the same thing happens. What is wrong?

Thanks for the help.

A:XPS 15 doesn't detect external display

I found that I had to use the GPU driver software to get my computer to work properly with my TV. Windows wouldn't do it on its own.

I suggest you try stepping through the troubleshooting list here first:

Looking through other posts, the problem likely rests with the TV. There seems to be no standard for TVs communicating with computers.

Here is my setup. Desktop No1 running Windows XP Pro and hard wired by ethernet to a Linksys WAG54G2 router. Desktop No2 running Windows XP Pro hard wired by ethernet to the router. Both PC's accessing web via router OK.
Desktop No1 connects to Canon MP640 by wireless via the Linksys router. Desktop No2 likewise accesses Canon MP640 printer by ethernet cable to the Linksys router and then by the wireless to the printer. No problems with this setup.
My missus laptop is running Windows 7 and accesses the internet by wireless link through the router. No problems with this.
Now I am trying to add the Canon MP640 to the laptop so that she can print wirelessly via the router to the printer. When I search with the laptop for the printer, none is found. Can anyone advise what is wrong and how to fix.

All help appreciated.

A:Laptop doesn't detect wireless printer

Hi and welcome to TSG.

Had a similar problem about half a year ago. I had to add the printer on the XP desktop as a LOCAL printer on a new Windows 7 notebook to get it to work. Here is a link to a different web site with instructions.

My cable company recently replaced my cable modem.  I figured out how to reconfigure my printer to connect to the new network.  However, the installation software won't find the printer.  I get to the step to type in the IP address and it doesn't find the printer.  I tried turning off the firewall and that didn't help.  I can navigate to the printer using a web browser so I know that the printer is connected to the network and I can print to it from other computers on the network just not this one.  I have tried searching with both the IP address and the host name.  Any thoughts on what I might do next?  This laptop used to work with the printer just fine.  The software also won't detect the printer when connected by USB though device manager finds it.

For the last week and a half the built in display on the Windows 7 HP Pavilion dv4i laptop which I purchased a few months ago will not display anything but a black screen. There is power to the screen, which stays illuminated and flashes during the correct transition times between the hp screen, the bios wait, and the windows start screen, but there is no interface or video whatsoever. I can get the video to display on an external monitor using VGA once the Windows login screen pops up, but that means I can't use my laptop as a laptop or see to access the BIOS. It is possible this is a problem with the CMOS preventing the laptop from recognizing the screen (also on one boot the date was defaulted back into January of 2009), and I have ordered a new CMOS battery to see if that is the issue.

However, there is enough going on to convince me that might not fix the problem due to a software issue. There was one prior reboot since the problem started where the screen worked, but on the next boot it was broken again. In the device manager the computer only sees two Generic PNP monitors (one of which is the display that does not respond) instead of their proper handles. In the display options I get the external monitor (a HANNS-G labled properly) and then the option for a VGA output monitor, which I can turn on but it does not change the laptop's display. The other issue is that I have the HANNS-G monitor plugged in via VGA, so it makes no sense that the computer w... Read more

I wasn't sure if this should go here or in the OS topic, I assume it was more network based.

I have a Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium. It has a very strange intermittent problem.

Basically sometimes when Windows starts up it doesn't detect any nearby wireless networks even when I am about 2 feet from the router/access point.

The other thing it does is loose signal once connected, it'll have a 5 of 5 block rating (excellent), but once connected it drops to 3 blocks and only a good signal. Also it sometimes disconnects and loses the wireless signal.

When it's working it usually detects anywhere between 4 and 5 different routers in the surrounding area.

I have tried a friends cheap gateway laptop on my router and it connects perfectly.

The installed network card is an Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG which came as standard with the laptop.

Is this a known Vista issue or is it likely my wireless card is a faulty? I've checked it for a loose connection, both black and white wires are securely connected, and I also have the latest drivers.

I have other devices both wired and wireless connected to my router, these being my PS3, Xbox 360, PC (not laptop) and occasionally my PSP, all these function perfectly.

It can't be a router issue mind you since it does exactly the same thing when connected to the work access point.

If anyone has seen anything like this before or has any suggestions before I ... Read more

A:Laptop doesn't always detect wireless signals, even when close

An old 3COM network card that had been my first venture into the world of wireless some 12 months previous was handed down to my daughter when she was given a laptop.

It was a bit iffy at times and it gradually got worse, to the point where she had to be sat next to the router to get a signal, its now in the spares box just in case its ever needed.

I have a MSI GS73VR Stealth Pro 7RF laptop using windows 10 64-bit home.

Recently, I tried to update two of my graphics drivers, one for the intel HD graphics 530, and one for my NVIDIA 1060. It was a hassle; I managed to update my intel driver, but I can't install the NVIDIA 1060 driver. It starts to install, but then a windows notification tells me it is done and to restart, but then the installer gives the failed install message, and I can't try again until I restart. I have deleted every file that has to do with NVIDIA (backed them up just in case). Not only that, but when I go to System Information, I can't find info on the 1060, just the intel 530, (like it isn't even there), and the NVIDIA 1060 driver isn't in the device manager under system devices. I get the drivers from the MSI website here, specifically for my computer. I have looked everywhere on the internet and haven't found a solution.

I didn't back up my drivers (I forgot), and I don't have any windows recovery backups.

Can someone help me fix these problems? I would very much appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

I have a slightly older ThinkPad with an Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection. I don't have any problems with connection or speed when I use an ethernet cable for direct connect. But I can't figure out how to get a wireless connection at all. I know the wireless router is working because every other laptop in the house gets wireless just fine. They all tell me that their laptops automatically detect the wireless network & ask if the user wants to connect. My laptop just sits there like a stone when there's no ethernet plugged in. For what it's worth, here are my spec's:

IBM ThinkPad R50
Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection

The computer says the infrared port is working fine. And since the router works both ethernet & wireless (for others), I think I need help with the Intel. I'm merely a gifted amateur who is pretty good at self-education. So just tell me exactly what to do, step by step, and I'll do it. Thank you for reading &, potentially, helping.

A:laptop doesn't auto-detect wireless router, please help

The IR port is not involved.
Start by looking in Device Manager for a wireless adapter, and verify that it exists and has a driver installed.
Many laptops have a switch to turn the wireless adapter on/off. Check to see it's on.
Look in Network Connections for a wireless network or a wizard to set one up.

I tried to search for a similar problem in the forum but I could not find anything. the laptop is a compaq Presario 700, my brother bought it like 4 years ago.

when I press the power button (which I need to apply some force to it and press it firmly) the laptop does not turn on anymore. the only thing that happens when I press the power botton is that the green light of the ac adapter from the computer, turns off, and I can hear a fast paced "tic tic tic" sound inside the laptop, and stops only when I disconect the ac adapter ither from the laptop or the power socket.

the only power source I have is the ac adapter which is not the original one that came with the laptop but it has the same specifications. I hope someone can help me and know what the problem is, and if it can be fixed or what? many thanks

A:Laptop doesn't turn on; irregular internal sound

I would try replacing the power supply first. If you are sure the power supply is good then it could be a short on the notebook motherboard, or just the on/off button could have gone bad.

I just got my HP laptop a brand new Windows Vista installed, but the guy who installed it didn't have time to go over all the details, and I was supposed to register it myself. I didn't think it would be a big deal, but when I tried to connect to the internet... I couldn't. I thought it I had just turned off the wireless adapter and pressed the button ... but nothing happened. The biggest surprise was when I opened the "Menage network connections" menu and there was nothing (there used to be a Wireless and a Broadcom network adapter icons). I tried installing some wireless drivers ... but again nothing.
Can you please help me, because I'm running out of ideas

Hey guys, so i'm running B10074 on my laptop , and I connected my external display to it as well as my external keyboard and mouse at my desk so I could sit there and do the setup etc without moving all of that out of the way. I had the laptop lid shut and off to the side while I was doing this. Then, I shut the laptop down, unplugged all the external peripherals, and turned it on again. It went through the windows boot sequence with the spinning circles, then black screen. After 20 minutes of frustration, I realised that the laptop would show a login prompt only when I plug in the external monitor BEFORE i start it, and only if the laptop is closed while it is booting (when the lid is closed during boot, the Dell logo and spinning circles come up on the external display)

I further figured out that in Control Panel, it only displays the external display, its like the computer doesn't even recognise the internal display anymore. I dont know why that would be since when I first booted it up and installed drivers, I was using the internal display and everything was working fine.
Any help appreciated as well as pointers on not running into this again

I have an older Medion akoya p6618 laptop running W7 x86. The option for wireless in windows has vanished, like the pc doesn't have a wireless card, just as it would appear on a normal desktop pc - only LAN. It works fine with cable. Device manager shows no wireless option either. I have tried system restore, then formatting and dl'ing wlan and lan drivers from the medion website. Same problem. When i try to enable wifi using the Fn keyboard shortcut, nothing happens. The little led does not turn on.

At this point I'm feeling like card is just broken and that it is a hardware issue. What do you think? I'm considering buying a dongle like this one (TP-LINK TL-WN725N Netv?rksadapter USB 2.0 | Model: TL-WN725N | pc-lager.dk). Would this thing enable me to have wifi?

Any help is appreciated.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that when I did a system restore it worked temporarily and I had internet access, but after a restart it stopped working. In the past it was hit or miss whether or not it would work, so again I'm leaning towards a hardware issue. Maybe there are some things I missed, though.

Hello All,

I had a problem with my own computer in the past, and this was the only place that I could find help, and now I'm trying to help my brother fix a problem and figured I would see if you all could help me again.

We are dealing with an HP Pavilion zd7140us laptop. When you turn it on, it powers up because all the lights come on, but it beeps three times and the display doesn't come on. Absolutely no idea about what happened other than, my brother was using it and it was fine. He walked away and left it on (so the battery died) and when he tried to plug it in and turn it on this problem resulted. The HP web site was of no particular help. Thanks in advance.

A:Laptop powers up but display doesn't come on...

Depending on the BIOS version, 3 beeps could mean a failure in the memory (RAM). Or not.

I would suggest that although the lights are coming on, the computer is NOT actually booting. That's what the beeps are telling you, so its not guaranteed to be a display problem, as the display will not work until the computer at least passes POST (Power On Self Test).

Sounds like there is a failure in the system, probably hardware.

I got trouble booting my laptop, it's a Compaq presario 1800-XL183, I do not know the exact detail of the system, except that its a pentium 3 with 500mhz and 128 ram running Windows XP professional, version 2002, service pack 2.

When I boot the computer, it gives me the messege

CPU = Intel (R) Mobile Pentium(R) III processor 500MHz
640K Sytem Ram passed
127 Extended Ram Passed

Serial Presence Detect (SPD) Unavailable - memory speed unkown.
SPD required for reliable operation. System Halted.Click to expand...
It does not let me get into the bios, the bios screen apears for 7 seconds and then goes streight to the error messege, I tried unpluging the RAM, the computer then boots as normal (veeeery slow obviously), I also tried reseting the bios as I can enter the bios when unpluging the ram, I also tried to put a similar ram module into the computer from a computer of the same kind.

It causes me to think there is a serious hardware problem somewhere so I put it into the hardware forum. The error occured after not using the computer for 3 weeks. I also have not installed any new soft or hardware and the ram is installed properly with no obvious sings of a problem.

I would very much appriciate any help,

Hi Everyone, I'm sorry if a similar question has already been posted here, but I couldn't find it myself. I'm having really weird problems with my brand new Y580. It doesn't detect the charger, and because of this - won't charge. I managed to figure out how to temporarily fix the problem, but it keeps on happening. Long story short: What's wrong: (after applying a temporary fix and the laptop IS charging) when I unplug the charger and plug it back in again, the laptop doesn't detect it (it keeps on draining the battery and does't prompt that a charger is connected). The same happens when I close the lid and open it again - the charger magically disconnects itself. My temporary fix: I somehow managed to get the laptop working when connected to the charger after applying these steps: OS shut downbattery removedcharger unpluggedpressed power button once (just for a second)charger plugged to a different wall socketcharger plugged to the laptoppower button pressed once (laptop boots up)when the OS loads up, battery inserted again As I mentioned, this fixes my problem only temporarily as I can't close the lid or unplug the charger without repeating the same procedure. I'm pretty sure the same thing happens when I simply switch the laptop off from the OS level. I'm using Windows 8 now but the same thing happended when I was on Windows 7. Has anybody had a similar experience? I appreciate your help and advice. Piotr

Hi again, I checked the charger again and it seems that it's not working when I unplug it a plug it back in. Hello, I've had this problem with my laptop display for about half a year. When the laptop starts, the backlight turns on, but there is no display of Windows. When connected to an external monitor or projector, this displays the image with no problem. Thus, my question is: if my GPU and backlight are working, what component is causing the problem and how can I fix it? It is worth mentoning that sometimes on start up the display came back to life, and then if no shutdown or battery depletion occured, it would function normally. However, if the battery ran out, the problem came back (since I very often just put the laptop on sleep, this system functioned for a while...) Then, a couple of weeks ago this happened again, and the display hasn't worked since. I am now working with an external monitor.  Looking forward to your answers. Many thanks, Stefania

I've install 8 hdds in 2 of my pcs which are running on Window 7 ultimate 64 bit. I juz realize that compare to vista ultimate 64 bit, windows 7 can't detect more than 7 internal hdds. I thought at 1st, it was something related to PSU or maybe the mobo bios, so i updated my giga bios till the latest one i.e f13a, than try using power connecter - sata converter to make sure the sata cable not really under stress. But still not working. But since 2 of the pcs facing the same problem, i conclude that windows 7 can't detect more than 7 hdds.

Would really appreciate if someone who manage to make windows 7 to detect more than 7 hdds, give some advice to me here. BTW, the hdds must be internal, not external one.

Thanks a lot in advance.

A:Windows 7 can't detect more than 7 internal hdds

Um, exactly how are you connecting all of these HDDs? There aren't many motherboards with 8 SATA ports that I can think of.

Are you using a separate RAID card, or port expander? If so, it could be a driver issue. I put a new SATA RAID card into my machine yesterday, and no drives until I updated the RAID card's BIOS, then the driver was properly detected. It works fine now, but some of the older cards don't come with a Win 7 compatible BIOS. I had to download and install the ones for mine.

First off, my name is Stephen and know a little about computers, but not a whole lot.

Now for the issue, I have a Dell Latitude D610. It is a company computer and just got it back from the IT dept. because I had to have the monitor portion of the laptop replaced. I believe he replaced the on board card as well because I have noticed that I cannot see any networks now. I do have a verizon wireless card that I use while I am out and about, but I would like to be able to connect to my network at home and at work for a faster connection while I am at those places. And I would take it back to the IT dept., but I have to submit a ticket and it can take sometimes a week for them to get me in.

There is no wireless switch and the device is enabled when I look at it through the device manager. Any idea how I can get this to detect networks without me having to go back through my IT dept.?

Thank you in advance

Hi there, I just bought the X240 from a Lenovo shop in Malaysia today. My laptop couldnt detect the internal 3 cell battery. Is there anything i can do before i return this machine to Lenovo KL tomorrow? Many thanks if anyone can help with suggestions to fix this problem. Eric

A:Brand new x240 cannot detect internal battery

Hello and welcome,
Not al X240 models have an internal battery.  Have you verified that yours does?
What's the Machine Type-Model?  (Like 20AL0090US  as an example of a US model that doesn't have an internal battery)

Hello! Registered because I really need help.

My Compaq laptop (Vista) was working just fine last night, connected to my home wireless network all right and all. Today morning my laptop couldn't detect my home wireless network at all, but it could still detect a bunch of other networks from the neighbours. My iPhone can detect my network with no problems, my desktop computer is wired up to the router, works fine too. It's a D-Link DIR-655. This has happened before but usually gets solved when I reboot (switching off and on) my router. I've tried that, tried restarting my computer too, no use. Haven't tried anything beyond that because I'm an idiot with computers.

Can anyone help me please? Thank you.

A:Solved: Laptop cannot detect home network, can detect others

Huh ok nevermind, I reset my router, blabla, it's working again. I guess it's solved?

Hi, I probably have to explain past chain of events which might explain the cause/problem.

Prior to this, the 2TB internal SATA HDD was used for data storage via external USB toaster and it can be used for my windows XP pc and windows 7 notebook as external storage.

I hooked it into my pc via the SATA connectors (not usb toaster anymore) and also added another new 3TB HDD to the SATA connectors and booting pc via another USB drive with windows 7 installation. I wanted to install windows 7 to the new 3TB HDD but had issues because of the GPT area and my pc had old BIOS.

I did many things and googled many things but the following may be the only possible cause to my problem:
Shift and F10
type " diskpart.exe " hit return
then convert the disk to GPT with formatted partition as follows
type " list disk " hit return
type " Select disk 0" hit return ( this will select the 3tb hdd)
type " clean " hit return
type " convert GPT " hit return
type " create partition primary size=102400 " hit return
type " select partition 1 " hit return
type " format " hit return

Not sure the above was the reason, but above was meant to select the new 3tB HDD, it could have affected the connected 2TB HDD too.

I gave up trying to install windows 7 to the new 3TB HDD, disconnected it. Then I tried to install windows 7 to the 2TB HDD and this was when I noticed it could not be detected fo... Read more

A:Internal SATA WD 2tB on USB toaster with lots of data, cant detect

Hi there,
I would be glad to try and help, but could you clarify what is your primary goal at the moment? Do you need to recover the data that was on the 2TB HDD or do you want to install Windows on it?
If your motherboard doesn't have UEFI you cannot use your 3TB drive as a boot one.
If you don't need the data that was on the 2TB HDD you can just run the Write Zeros with WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostics ( if it's a WD drive if not it's better to download the manufacturer's diagnostics utility). This will completely erase everything that was on the HDD and you should be able to initialize it as MBR and install the Windows on it. However this is only applicable in case you don't need the data back.

Hope that helps.

This is the netbook which I used at school the past 4 years, and when I graduated, we were allowed to keep the netbook. The default Acer OS was reinstalled, which was incredibly slow and had tonnes of bloatware on it, so I installed my own copy of Windows 7 using a USB. After the install was done, there was no network connection, so when I went to connect it to my home network, it said "No wireless network devices installed" which is complete bullshit. Its used a wireless network card built into it to connect to the internet every day for the last 4 years. I went to connect it to my router through an ethernet cord, but it also refused to acknowledge this cord was plugged into it. I then tried it with a different ethernet cord which was using my desktop to connect my Xbox 360 to the internet. I checked the device manager, and there wasn't any tab showing called "network devices". However, under "other devices", it says there is an "Ethernet controller", a "Network controller" and a "PCI simple communications controller". I plugged in a usb wifi adapter, which instantly failed to install as the computer couldn't find any driver,s but then i inserted the USB adaptor i used for my PC, and it installed and connected to the internet. I then tried to find drivers for the "ethernet controller", but it found none. I went to Acer's website and tried to install the Atheros Ethernet driver, but it said that it failed ... Read more

Try installing the chipset drivers from Acer, that should allow your system to see and install the drivers for other components like your network adapters and card reader, etc.

3 computer network. Linksys router daisychained with a switch, which is chained to a wireless access point.

Everything works fine apart from the one computer. It is not getting an IP from the router. It does not get the internet connection. It cannot share files with the other two computers. Basically acts as though it's not even plugged into the network.

So I go for the obvious and assume it's a wire or bad plug, and try hooking the rogue's end up to my laptop. Laptop works fine, gets net and can share files. I check the NIC and it's detected and working properly.

Must be a software issue. Windows XP Pro is not happy. It's a fresh install after a format. I've run the wizard with the 'connects through a residential gateway' as opposed to the 'connects directly to the internet'. I tried the latter but it says cannot complete setup.

The two lights on the card are blinking. The lights on the router corresponding to the rogue computer light up just the the others. I've tried moving it to the switch; no dice.

What could be the problem?

A:Rogue computer does not detect network. Network doesn't detect it.

I'm having a weird problem, I just moved to a new flat and there's wireless internet here, my flatmates connect with no problem, and I have connected with my laptop via wifi without any problems in the past, but here... the network simply does not shows up in the available networks, windows detects other networks but not mine... if I connect via LAN ethernet everything works peachy...
I'm running Windows Vista SP1 on a Toshiba A135 laptop.

I tried to include as much detail as possible because I'm hoping against hope my HDD isn't fried, but my timeline might be a bit off. Where I'm at right now is that the laptop is sitting turned off with the hopes of recovering the data when my new one arrives in 2-3 weeks.

I have (had ) the latest version of avast! home edition and Sygate Personal Firewall, and used Firefox and was very much strict with my security (cookies, javascript, and flash were all blocked by default).

Logical Timeline
1.) I get a BSOD, giving me a message about a Kernal Stack Error.
2.) I restart the computer and it freezes after the BIOS progress bar indicates it finished loading
3.) I "restart" it (no restart button, need to turn on and off) and go into setup. It takes a while to load. It detects the HDD and everything appears fine.
4.) I restart again, it freezes again.
5.) I restart again, and go to boot setup menu. Internal HDD is not listed under choices to boot from.
6.) Restart again and go into setup again, HDD is not listed with hardware specs, it says 'None".
7.) Restart again with XP CD. I watch as it loads all the things on the CD, but when it gets to "Starting Windows" it freezes.
8.) Restart again. Go into Setup, and see the HDD is again listed, it has reappeared.
9.) Restart again. XP CD loads this time, and I click to repair an existing Windows XP install. It tells me it can't detect an HDD and can... Read more

here's my problem, as near as I can tell,

a few months ago the wireless connection on my hp laptop stopped "seeing" my wireless network. Eventually, during a scan with my panda security system a virus was found (for some reason it is no longer in the logs-but is was, I think, trojan or sasser in my outlook folders-and it was deleted). The wireless seemed to work again but then went back to being "invisible" to my wireless detector on the laptop. I went to HP downloads to see if I could just update the "driver" and ended up updating "system bios" which seemed to work also, for a while, then the system goes back to not seeing the wireless. I could sometimes do the right-click "repair" option to get it to connect but that stops working after a while. I think that there is still some residual virus lurking in the system to cause this problem so that is why I am posting here. Thanks for any help you can give

I have Acer S3-391 with Windows 7. The original 500GB Hitachi hdd failed and I decided to replace it with 240GB Kingston SSD drive (model V300). Problem is that even BIOS (latest v1.29) doesn't detect it.BIOS lists HDD0 as "None" and HDD1 as "SATA SDD", which is probably the integrated 20GB SDD drive.Any hdd I have tested with, will be detected normally, but not this SDD drive.  SDD drive is new and I have tested it with other computer and it works fine.Unfortunately I don't have any other SSD drive to test with. Does this "BIOS" model support SSD drives at all ?

A:How do I fix my USB that it doesn't detect anything at all

You're saying it doesn't detect any USB port. Is that because when you try to use a keyboard or mouse, you see no response on the screen?

If so, couple of things you could try:
1) If your motherboard has both USB 3.0 ports and USB 2.0 ports, make sure the keyboard and mouse are BOTH plugged into the USB 2.0 ports.
2) Go into your BIOS settings and see if you have an option to enable or disable legacy mode. If you have that option and legacy mode is disabled, then enable it and try again.

I need a batch or similar type file that will "detect display" from (Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Display\Screen Resolution).

HP dv6 use switchable graphics and they can be seriouly problematic to update. Anyway the only way i can use the latest driver is if i put up with aero not starting properly sometimes. I found out it's becasue the laptop is randomly deciding to switch to display 2 - when it should be 1. No display settings in that section will change when its in that state until "detect" is used.

Then i run a batch i have that restarts aero and it goes back to normal.
"net stop uxsms
net start uxsms"

Basically i want a batch(s) to detect displays and restart aero on startup. Im on windows 7.

I have a CD-RW Disc that I want to erase, but my RW drive doesn't even detect that it's there!

The drive itself is fine b/c it can read other cd's, just not this one

When I check out the drive with the CD in there using windows explorer, it shows nothing!

And every time I try to erase the CD in Nero, it says that there is an unspecified recorder error and that I need to insert a rewriteable medium as if I didn't even put anything in the drive.

It used to be a little erratic like this and I would have to stick the CD in and out a couple of times before it worked, but this time it's totally busted.
