[resolved] Some Pages Load, Some Pages Don't

Q: [resolved] Some Pages Load, Some Pages Don't

There are twenty or thirty sites I visit regularly.

Recently I've been having some problems. Some sites I can visit like normal, but some sites I can't. I get "cannot find server" errors.

I cannot visit 9/10 websites on the internet because of this.

I have run Search & Destroy, Spyware Doctor, HouseCall, HijackThis, and the virus scanner on pcpitstop.com. I've run some of those in Safe Mode as well.

I cannot ping a website with cmd, but if someone else gives me the ip for a site url I can't visit, and i put the ip in the address bar, it will work like normal.

I've tried using IE and FireFox. I'm currently running FireFox (on XP) because I'm concerned about the security of IE during this problem.

I've done a system restore to before the problem but it didn't help.

There are three computers in my house, two of them are affected, one isn't. So I don't think this is an ISP issue, but I could be mistaken.

Is anyone out there familiar with this problem?

Keep in mind that any links or such you provide me I will most likely not be able to follow, because the page likely won't load. If you suggest I download something please provide a direct link to the zip/exe file.

Thanks in advance.

Preferred Solution: [resolved] Some Pages Load, Some Pages Don't

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Not sure if this is a browser problem or not, but I thought this would be the best place to start. Here is the background to the problem....

I am running XP Pro and have IE6 SP1 installed as my browser. Recently I decided to partition my HDD using Partition Magic 8. That caused a world of problems which resulted in me losing my entire HDD and all drives! Fortunately the data was safe and by running the Recovery Console on the XP CD I was able to get everything back. Since then when I would connect to the internet (via 56K modem) I would connect to my ISP as normal, my home page would load as normal, but after that no other page would load. They would hang and then time out. If I pinged the site I got a request timed out response. It didn't matter which site I was trying to get to, the result was the same.

This didn't bother me too much as I was going to reformat the HDD anyway after the Partitioning problems, but having done so, this problem is still there. I can load the first page OK, can ping the site, but after that nothing. It's not the phone line as I am using my laptop now connected to the same line.

Sorry for the longwinded explanation, but does anyone have any thoughts or ideas about what has caused this and what to do? I thought it might be the firewall (XP's own) so I turned that off, no difference. All ISP settings are correct. Any thoughts or ideas gratefully received before i pull all my hair out.

I suppose the title says it all, my computer has some sort of infection where every search in google in both firefox and internet explorer redirect the searches to random pages. Additionally, typing in certain addresses simply won't load where I know the page should work, such as certain links on microsoft.com. Furthermore, I have enabled Automatic Updates and it tells me that it is not enabled even though it clearly is in the settings and going to the update page through internet explorer simply does not work. I have read through various other forums here at bleepingcomputer.com and followed their instructions but nothing has fixed the problem so I figured I'd post as well and start fresh. A huge thanks in advance to whomever is able to help me out. So, where do I begin?

hello all

i have started noticing "hijacked pages,"

and that (so far, only when using "chrome," which is outdated - NOT by choice but because i am stuck with windows vista and GOOGLE will not longer support it...),

sometimes chrome will "hang" when attempting to perform operations such as "clear browsing data,

and then if i attempt to close chrome, it will make it so that system processes(?) such as my toolbar, ctrl+alt+del/task mgr, and restart will not work, forcing me to need to manually power off my computer,

and now as of today, most pages are not loading ("err_connection_failed" in chrome, but ALSO IN FIREFOX a lot of pictures in pages are not loading),

so i fear i have malware...

Hi all,

I have major pbms with IE6, many a site I used to visit which was perfectly fine now causes me stress and bafflement... javascripts don't work right (simple "click to open" picture is transformed into many click-click- click action before anything happens - when it does happen), some links just won't open (even if I right click and then select 'open link' or 'open link in new window').
Now, the worst case is with this entire website that won't work: my Uni library page loads (or seems to) but there are many items missing, like the search tab is simply not displayed (like other useful tabs) on the page anymore, hence no access to the search form, hence, no access to ressources... (I tried for 3 weeks everyday and thought they were repairing the site until I asked my friend to try from her place, runs XP and IE6 too ... and it worked for her) this really gives me grief ;-) because I guess it can happen with many other useful sites, and I won't know if it comes from my comp of if the site's just gone (sometimes, I get blank pages too... but no error message...).

The pbm with links sorts itself out most of the time with Firefox, as well as the javascript pbm (opening pictures, but then Mozilla won't play the embedded music on the website) but as far as my Uni Library website is concerned, I get the same pbm with Firefox. I have run Spybot several times, keeps sayig my computer's clean. Needless to say a few weeks ago with Win 2000, everything was peeeeer-... Read more

Hello and Welcome to TSF

Try IEFix

Click the Apply button

You'll be prompted for the Operating System CD or the Service Pack Files location:

If you're using Windows 2000/XP, insert the Operating System CD. For OEM systems, point to the Operating System source path when prompted. If you've applied a Service Pack separately, you need to insert the Slipstreamed Operating System CD (if you have one) or point the installer to the ServicePack source path when prompted (see Fig 2 below). Mention the path as "C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386" or "C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles"

If you don't have the Windows installation CD, and if the installation source files are not present in the hard disk, you may click Cancel. IEFix will continue with DLL registration part.

Hi newbie here so go easy on me

My mum has a realtively newly built PC (about 2 weeks old), and has XP Professional installed along with Norton Antivirus 2003.

She is using dial-up internet with an external modem, and although her default homepage (bbc) loads straight away after that browsing becomes progressively slower and slower. Some pages do not load up at all after a while and she is forced to turn off her connection and try again. She cannot access any secure sites at all (for her internet banking and buying things). She has cleared her cache to no avail.

I have been told to see if a firewall is blocking secure ports 443, 84 and/or 8443. I'm not sure how to check that? I'm not even sure she has a firewall installed at all?

Should she try Mozilla Firefox? Should I install Norton?

I've checked her dialup internet provided (lineone/tiscali) and there appears to be no problems?

Our users have IE 7 and 8. We keep them locked into place by pointing IE to our firewall product (tools > internet options > connections > lan settings), so that only approved sites are the ones that our people can access. In the last few days, several of them report issues with specific websites loading very slowly - load times of over an hour just to get the log-in screen to appear.Troubleshooting Steps:1.) Unchecked the "use proxy server for your LAN" under the IE menus---> Site resolves instantly, as it should---> This pointed me to the direction that perhaps the site wasn't configured for our firewall2.) Re-checked the "use proxy server" box, and specifically configured the site in our firewall---> Site continues to resolve slowly, with the same load times as before performing step 1That would normally indicate that the problem is on the vendor's end. Something may be wrong with their site. And that's the line of thought I was pursuing until I was reported back to that the users are having the same problem on other websites. These new websites they're having problems with are, and have been for a long time, configured properly in the firewall.I'm not sure what my next step is to pursue. What am I looking for now? I don't know enough about networking to figure out where to track next.

Hi Garys,

Shut down Internet Explorer and Outlook Express.
Go to Control Panel/Internet, and clear your temporary Internet Files.
Now click 'delete cookies'.
Also clear your History.
Next go to the Advanced tab, and click Restore Defaults.
And go to the Security tab, and click restore defaults there as well.

Now do the following:

Go to Start/Run, and type each line separately, followed by clicking OK:

regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll

Note: you should see a brief message after each entry.
Reboot and test IE, and repost with your results.

Good luck,

For some weeks now I've noticed that many of the web pages I would frequent, like yahoo mail, techguy, and others arn't loading right.

For instance right now as I type this I can not select a smilie just to the left <. I click it and nothing happens.

Yahoo mail.... All the colors and fonts are different than I set them to be.

Columbiahouse.com.... My shoping cart is missing the "delete selection" and "move to wish list" options. Also the continue to checkout is gone.

Our Charter Cable account... Can't go to the make payment screen, the link to click does nothing.

Recently "Charter" has done some upgrading, ( always a problem after upgrades,.... nothing like this problem though ) Could this be why?

Or is my puter slowly crashing arround me?
Related to my printer install problems maybe?

I tried "fix explorer" (6 BTW) said it couldn't, and to run setup again. Tried that but got "failed to download from site" and it ended there.

Oh and if that ain't bad enough I also get the same problems when I use Netscape.

So it cant be explorer can it?

I was having trouble earlier today with my video playing when attempting to play a DVD or any movie on my computer. What was happening was I could hear the audio but was not seeing any video. I reinstalled my video drivers and I was once again able to view as well as hear any movies played.
But as a consequence of this, now when I scroll web pages using either my mouse wheel or the scroll bar on the right side of any web page, instead of scrolling the web page smoothly like it was, now it scrolls very choppy either way. This happens whether I use Firefox or Internet Explorer as my web browser. Hi guys ( and girls )

I have an Acer Asspire 5332 running Vista.

A month or so ago the CD/DVD rom stopped working. Device Manager states it is unable to start and updating driver/uninstalling device etc does nothing either, other than recognise the drive as "standard cd rom" whereas it is actually a dvd rewriter. Acer tech support say that windows should pick up the driver automatically and cannot understand what the problem is. They do not provde a driver for the cd/dvd unit.

Then, in the last 2 weeks, certain web pages have failed to open, namely Hotmail and Facebook. All I get is a blank page with no error message Also videos on all sites intermittently work and don't work, saying I need to install Javascript which I already have! I have done all the usual checks and fixes ( internet options / javascript uninstall reinstall etc, as well as un-installing internet explorer itself.

Using another browser ( Safari ) opens up all pages including Hotmail and Facebook fine, but I still get the issue with the videos.

Does this sound like a virus? I have run Avast scan, and Malwarebytes and CC Cleaner. I am posting a "Hijack this log" for any braniancs to look over. Not sure if it is one problem, or several but doing my head in !!!

If i type in a url in the address bar for IE it would load the page quickly (probably from cache), but then proceeding to click links would cause "Page not found" or "timed out" errors.

I know that i can reach these sites, i ping them and get normal responses. It seems that IE is just not displaying them properly or something. The internet on my server computer works perfectly fine.

I have 2 nic cards in the server computer, 1 recieving the cable modem, and one receiving a LAN cable from my Hub.

Anybody have any ideas? Like i said, it worked on my secondary cmputer before. Also, i hooked up another computer to my hub and the internet was working fine, and then i installed Service Pack 3 and it started crapping out like mentioned above.

This is driving me NUTS!! ahhh. please help.

A:Web Pages Do Not Load Fully. Can't Load Some Sites

Did you try emptying your browser cache? Also delete temp files and cookies (or the cookies you don't want to keep) and see if that helps.

Do you have more then 1 computer connected to your modem/router? If so, does this happen on them? If not, can you connect a separate one (ex: friend's laptop) to test?

Normally when you get errors like this it's best to rule out a problem at the modem/router and provider before going crazy over trying to fix a problem (that may not exist) on your PC(s).

Also just a couple of other questions:

Who is your internet provider (ISP)?
What connection type do they use (Cable/DSL/Fiber/Fixed Wireless/Mobile Wireless)?
What is the make and model of your router and modem?

Try running a ping to the sites that have trouble loading to see what kind of connection times you are looking at. I would also run a tracert to those sites to see if there are any places dropping the connection.

A:Doesn't Always Connect And Pages Don't Always Load Or Load Right

Sorry for the delay, this forum is very busy right now.

There is a program from a company called SearchHelp, Inc. on this computer. Sentry at Home or Sentry Remote. From the information I can gather on the Internet, this is a legitimate application aimed at allowing parents control over their children's web surfing habits. Judging by some of the lines in this log it uses a proxy server and several other techniques to filter internet content. This might explain why you have trouble connecting to some web sites.

If you are the owner of this computer and installed this program, I would suggest disabling it temporarily to see whether your problems persist.

Whether they do or not, post a fresh HijackThis log along with the results of this test.

Just started two-days-ago. Mozilla and IE 6.0.2900. I did a system restore back for two weeks to no avail as "nothing changed."

Mozilla and IE, through Mozilla, either takes long to load or no load. If it does load does so without .gifs or some links. Some links are broken. Some will load the login page fine then freeze on the next page.

The perplexing part is that it affects only a few pages but not the whole site: my hompage, Nasdaq.com; ebay.com (after the login page), espn.com takes a while, 240 sec, to load then only partially load.

Network fine, signal strength fine, I've killed Symantec, no difference. Switched to Windows firewall, no difference. Killed Adblock, no diff. Ran Spyware Doc, nothing; NAV scan, nothing.

I'm lost. Anyone have an idea?

Thanks in advance.

Ive been having the same problem. Im with Virgin and they were useless with the advice they gave. Try reinstalling your modem. My line has recently been upgraded to 8.1meg from 2.2 and i think the modem hasnt quite got the hang of it being this quick yet. It seems to work for a while but my line keeps changing. At first it ran at 7.6 and the problems with pages started so i reinstalled the drivers from the disk and it shot straight upto 8.1. Its been a pain for the past few days with some sits(even my homepage of Virgin) so i reinstalled it again and all the pages now come up.

Ok forewarned this is a high level problem.

So I had a problem with IE where it wasnt storing pages in history, I closed all my IE windows, and using ccleaner wiped the history file (I assume was corrupt) and that fixed that problem, but I made a new one, info as follows.

I normally on IE my first IE window has about 15 or so tabs loaded, which I use as reference points, for whatever reason I didnt bookmark these tabs but simply they were always loaded in the firs tIE windows after reboots etc. so basically on reboots I would close this IE windows last, and on the first IE window after reboot I would select "reopen last browsing session" from the menu to recover these tabs understood so far? What I did with ccleaner wiped this session, and those pages had hugely important info to me in them.

I have no system restore point to get it back.

I do have a norton recovery image 10 days old.

Now the new problem.

Norton recovery images are made with the system running, almost certianly I had IE open at the time. So there is no me importing IE files, starting IE and simply selecting "reopen last browsing session" as when norton did its image IE was running. So this leaves what?

The crash recovery data, when IE is running it stores data on whats currently open incase it crashes and so can recover.

In the image I have mounted there is the following folder. (Q drive)

Q:\Users\Chris\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Recovery

Inside it is various dat... Read more

A:importing IE9 recovery pages to get loaded pages back

Ok I have done it, here is how.

IE prepends its recovery files with 'RecoveryStore.'

and each session file is named like this '{9AC84612-1C85-11E3-AF5A-001B213DE643}.dat'
So a recovery file is like this 'RecoveryStore.{7ACE6B97-256F-11E3-96B2-001B213DE643}.dat'

When IE is running it has a registry key matching the name at 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Recovery\Active'
The key is without the prepend and file extension so such as '{7ACE6B97-256F-11E3-96B2-001B213DE643}'

If IE closes down successful the key is deleted from the registry.
If it crashes the key still exists, so on startup IE checks for the key and loads the associated .dat file to recover tabs.

So I have them recovered luckily.

I have tried everything, I delted cookies, temporary files, I told my browser to dump all the temp files when closing...
I can not open files like gmail, without first deleting all the cookies and temp files, EVERYTIME. I tried following a link to aol, and I get a blank screen with the "done" on the bottom.
I went into a web based program that stores data and then generates things like adoption reports and I can access the report OR print it, it just stops and goes no further.

I am crippled by this, I am on gmail DAILY, please tell me what else to do, somebody told me to delete host files or search for them ??????? IDK

I called Canon tech support and they had me print from Wordpad and since it worked they said it's not their problem.

Sometimes clicking on a link I want to get to opens up a new browser tab that I didn't ask for. Sometimes this happens even when clicking on any random space on the page, not even on a link.

I have a Canon Bubble Jet BJ 10sx it worked ok on my 486 PC (66Mhz, 20MB ram, Win95), untill I did a clean install, windows installed it's own drivers and now it prints OK but first spews out 5 blank pages before it prints.

The printer setup switches have not been touched. I have removed the printer and rebooted, windows detected it again and installed it's own drivers once more but the symptoms are the same. I can't find the printer listed on the Canon website.

But could it be something else?

In Win 98, using either IE 6 or Netscape 4.7, web pages do not appear. Browser says "website found, waiting for reply". The waiting never ends. Connection with ISP is ok; email works, Usenet works, FTP works, but http does not.

Took the computer(HP Pavilion) to a shop. After keeping it a month, they said "We have several machines in with the same problem. We don't know what it is, and Microsoft Knowledge Base doesn't mention it. It must be a corrupt TCP/IP stack or corrupt Windows registry, and the only way to cure it is to format C:."

If it's a virus, it's one that a pretty recently updated Norton doesn't catch. I have Norton covering email, and the personal firewall is active. Did a full scan with negative results.

Before reformatting, I'd like a second opinion. Thanks.
