Windows explorer + zoom settings

Q: Windows explorer + zoom settings

When I use internet explorer, 125% zoom is the best choise for me

When I open IE8, the zoom is 100%. I then change it to 125%. Next page I open is often 100% and sometimes 125%. This is randomly.

Ive also tried to change it in regedit, but it doesnt help.

Ive read other threads about this issue, but these threads were started a while ago. Maybe there is some new solutions.

I just installed service pack 2, and I guess the issue appeared after the installation

Someone knows how to get the zoom to stay at 125% permanently?

Preferred Solution: Windows explorer + zoom settings

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Now this is really doing my head in. The regular zoom setting for Internet explorer is 100%, but I find the screen?s way too small at those settings for me to read the text properly. The best setting for me is 200%, but the thing keeps on resetting itself back to 100% forcing me to keep on going back to put it back to 200% again. Is there any way to lock the zoom settings to what I want rather than having to keep on resetting it?

Hello Welcome to SF,

To preserve your Zoom Level setting, use these steps:

Internet Explorer Zoom Level
Open Internet Explorer
From the Tools menu, choose Internet Options
Select the Advanced tab
Under Accessibility, deselect the following option:
Reset Zoom level to 100% for new windows and tabs
Click OK

I've owned this laptop for quite a while and had been using Webcam Central to control the Integrated Webcam on my Alienware M17x R4.   I never had any issues using Windows 7, 8, 8.1, or even Windows 10 until my system updated on 8/20/2016 with a scheduled Windows 10 update.
After the windows 10 update my system restarted and the next time I went to use my webcam I noticed that I couldn't control the pan / zoom / or tilt or alter any of the settings in webcam central.  If I attempt to change anything it automatically changes back instantly.  For example of I move the slider to zoom, or attempt to change the pan, it auto goes back to where it was and will not allow me to change the settings.
I also notice that my mouse pointer flickers over the webcam central GUI, meaning, there seems to be some issue with the GUI after the windows 10 update, I assume is also whats causing the settings not to be changed.
I have tried uninstalling both the drivers and software and reinstalling to no avail, same problem is present after reinstallation of both drivers and the webcam central software.
Wondering if anyone else has run into this and whether there was some type of resolution.
I was able to get the pan / zoom / tilt working with 3rd party webcam software, however I would prefer to go back to using webcam central.

I'm sorry that I won't be able to link this website, since it is for the airforce.

A:Internet Explorer zoom problem!

To use IE8 zoom, add it to the command bar using 'customize'.

Each click (2) zooms then the third resets back to normal.

Still too small? Start with Text Size larger (customize again).

edit: you can also use Magnifier.

I have a problem with my windows explorer.
on my desktop, the hierarchy lines appear. but on my laptop, they are missing. My question is, since they're both running the same version of XP, how does one get them to appear/disappear? does it have something to do with the registry? or is it pure random? I have seen my friends' windows explorer, and it doesn't show for them. so far, my desktop computer is the only XP i've seen with hierarchy lines in windows explorer.

Hello, all...

I'm having a strange problem...
My windows settings, such as my taskbar position, toolbars....etc. aren't being saved...

I have all the latest updates, for everything, I run winXP (home), Graphics: Intel 8485G/GL/GE/PE/GV.

I've also run a virus scan (Avast!), and adware/spyware scans ( Both Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware), returned no results.

I am also an administrator, incidentally, this problem is only on my user account... as the other 2 user accounts register changes just fine.

Any and all help, or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

A:Windows Explorer Settings not being saved....

delete these registry keys (they will be recreated on rebooting) and your settings should stay put for you.

HKCU_ software\microsoft\windows\shellnoroam\bagmru

and the one next to it
HKCU _software\microsoft\windows\shellnoroam\bags
delete both and reboot, test your settings.

These are where all your personal touches are saved but are notorious for failing in their duty, deleting them forces a recreate next boot with default values, now changes you make will stick thereafter.

First let me describe the problem:
All of my Windows Explorer settings appear to be stuck at the defaults. If I go to Tools>Folder options... and change them, the change does not take effect, and if I open the menu again, the check boxes are back to the same state as before.
When I right-click in empty space, my New menu is empty.
Also, if I try to drag a shortcut to the taskbar, or pin an item to the start menu, nothing happens.
Now this all started after removing a piece of beta software (being developed at my employer) using the add/remove programs list (my mistake). It apparently corrupted the registry, causing a bluescreen at boot. I let the system do the auto repair, which
got me able to boot again, but with the problems noted above.
My next action was to try System Restore to bring me back to a state a few days back. Unfortunately, the restore failed, and upon going back into System Restore, I found all of my restore points had disappeared (!).
I next exited Windows and replaced (after making backups) DEFAULT, SAM, SECURITY, SOFTWARE, and SYSTEM in Windows/System32/config/ with the copies in RegBack. After rebooting, this did not seem to change anything.

Any ideas about how I might still get my old settings back or at least be able to change them again? I was hoping to avoid reinstalling Windows.

A:Windows Explorer settings can't be changed

One important question: If I have resized my disk partitions since I made a System Image with the backup utility in Windows, will I still be able to use the image?

The native image creation tool was Microsoft's first stab at such a facility. The good news is that it's free. The bad news is that it is temperamental, unreliable and that it lacks the functionality that we take for granted with similar but mature products.
Example: it will not restore partitions where the target is smaller than the original partition. But give it a try anyway - I might be wrong.

Is there any way to prevent the 'view' setting in Win 7 from being global and changing every folder in the computer. I have three win 7 machines and they all do it. And why did 'thumbnails' become 'icons'??

A:windows explorer view settings

Hello Ridgerunner,

Are you by chance in a library instead of an actual folder location?

All included folders in a library will share the same folder view.

Only while in the actual folder location will they have separate folder views.

For example, Music library versus "C:\Users\(user-name)\My Music" folder.

Could you give more details about what you mean for thumbnails becoming icons? A screenshot showing this would be best.

Hope this helps for now,

I don't know if this has been asked before but I searched and couldn't find anything. After performing some Windows XP updates recently I've discovered that Windows Explorer won't remember the settings from a previous session. I've gone through the various view settings and tried different things and nothing seems to work. i think you will be able to do it with third party software like auto hotkey and then write your own macro , although i think you'll probably have to map it to a differant key combination

I don't care how many times I set my Windows Explorer viewing settings to Name, Ascending I have files that move around in the window. I'm getting real sick of having to either use F5 or back out of the folder and come back in. Just because I open a file doesn't mean it should move to the end of the list. That's what is happening though. Every single one of these files was created exactly the same way but not all of them do it. And not all of the files moving are the same ones every time. It's only occasion files that move and not always the same files, it seems to be random.

I just know this is getting to be extremely irritating. So if anyone can tell me how to lock in my viewing preferences and keep them that way I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi all, again. I'm running Win764 Ultimate, and attempting to use the built-in Explorer software to burn a DVD-ROM. When I drag the intended files over to the designated DVD-ROM Drive, it copies them to a "temp" location on Drive C:\. This is a Dual Layer DVD+R recorder and disc, so we're talking 8.5GB capacity (6.6 actually to burn).

Being someone who, naturally, attempts to keep as much off of Drive C: as possible, I checked out the "properties" of the drive (by right clicking on the drive root entry on the left panel in Explorer). One of the tabs is "Recording" On that tab, I can "select a hard drive with enough Free space to store the files temporarily, that you wish to burn." (see attached).

It was set to C:\ by default. I changed it to a different drive letter (a "scratch" drive that acts as temporary disk space for me. It is much faster, actually (a SATA III drive in a the only SATA III socket on the MB). It's lightning fast, otherwise. I saved the setting. I noticed that Explorer created a temp directory on that drive for DVD burning. I then rebooted the machine.

However, when I attempt to drag/drop more files on to DVD-ROM drive, it still copies them temporarily to drive C:\, ignoring the setting I have in place. I checked, and sure enough, it's still shows as being set to my new H:\ scratch drive, but it doesn't behave that way.

I have a micro-usb cable for charging my mouse that the cats chewed through. It was doing the device connect/disconnect sound over and over with an annoying popup. Oddly enough, the cable still works but now it shows as an "Unknown Device" in the Device Manager under "Other devices".
The way I did my cable management in the back of my desktop is I ran everything through a tube, so even though I have a replacement for that micro-usb, in order to remove it and replace it with the working one I'd have to spend so much time and effort. What's funny is the reason I did all of this cable management was because of the cats, I had all of my usb cords going through a separate piece of cardboard to where they plug in but they still managed to find an exposed area to chew.
So my ghetto solution was I replaced the connect/disconnect .wav with a .wav with no audio. The pop up is what is still giving me trouble though, every time it pops up it forgets that I set it to "Hide icon and notifications"

"USB Device not recognized: The last usb device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it" - How do I get this message to permanently shut up.

A:Windows Explorer Notification is not remembering settings

If it is no longer plugged into a USB port and you are still getting that notification, you may be able to get rid of it by going into device manager and deleting the hidden profile. So, to view profiles that are not active, you must select View then select Hidden profiles. Once done, you will see many devices displayed that are greyed-out which indicates they are not active. Find the one you think may be causing the issue and delete it. No guarantees but this was the first thing that came to my mind. Good luck.

This is my first time on the forum, and I'd like to ask for some help.
Until today, I was browsing through my folders normally. No changed settings, no forgotten ones, and then the problem arrived.
While saving some files, I realized that the settings of my folder views in the explorer window have changed to arrange folders to "Modified" instead of "Name". In this case, I tried to save something in a folder named "Images":

So I decide to try and change them back to the old setting:

It worked for that moment while I saved the file, however when I try to view folders in the same explorer again, it reverts to old settings:

I also noticed that the icons for my drives on PC are arranged not by name, but by free space available, and same thing as above happens when I try to revert settings:

To note: I'm using Windows XP Service Pack 2. This only happens when I use the explorer from other applications like Firefox, IE, Photoshop etc...all programs and applications which use folder browsing, while browsing the folders through My Computer, My Documents etc. seems to work alright. Any ideas what might be the issue?

However, after a day or two of going into this folder, that folder and setting them to thumbnail view, I'll open up some other random folder -- My Documents, for example, or My Computer, or literally anything else -- and they'll be set to thumbnail view. And it's not just thumbnail view: If I set a bunch of folders to list view, eventually I'll open up some other unrelated folder and it'll be set to list view.

Thus far, my only solution has been to go into Tools > Folder Options... > View and click "Reset All Folders." That USUALLY works; everything gets set back to Large Icon view and I can go on about my business for another few days/hours. When "Reset All Folders" doesn't work for me (something that's been happening more frequently as time goes on), what I end up doing is setting whatever folder I'm looking at back to Large Icon view, and then going to Tools > Folder Options... > View and clicking "Like Current Folder."

As of about a week ago, this problem has become near-unbearable. I haven't even been working on images or setting lots of folders to this view or that, but the system jus... Read more

Hello friends.
I have just noticed at few days ago that in Internet Explorer 11 if I go to "view" tab to change the size of the browser window I'm viewing , the "50%" and "Custom" selection is shaded and NOT available. I do not know what might have happened to change this, or how to change it back. Any help you may be able to provide will be much appreciated.
Thank you in advance...

I love this site; you volunteers are most helpful and knowledgeable.PC: HPOS: Windows XP Media Center Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3PROBLEM: Whenever I navigate to "C:\Documents and Settings\My Profile" (where "My Profile" is my user folder) in Windows Explorer, I receive the following error message:Internet Connection ErrorYour request cannot be completed because the service couldnot be found or did not respond. The service might beexperiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjustyour network settings.|Try Again| |Cancel|note: There is an extra space before the first "service" and I don't recall seeing a similar typo in other Windows error messages.I must press "Cancel" three times successively, as three identical error messages pop up. This happens every time this folder is navigated to. It does not happen with any of the other profile folders in "Documents and Settings."This problem cropped up after I ran the disk cleanup tool and uninstalled unwanted programs and windows components. I also uninstalled "Windows Live Messenger," "Sonic RecordNow DVD" and there may have been a few others but the onl... Read more

For a while now my computer has been doing this really weird thing o me. It happens most the time on the internet (browser doesnt matter) and my computer will either zoom in all the way, zoom out or constanyl zoom in and out. Most the time I can "fight" my way out of it by hitting zoom in and out on my keyboard, but not always. Does anyone know what this problem is and can help me fix it?

Are you using the ctrl button on the keyboard when this happens? If not, do you have a different keyboard you can use to see if the problems persists?

Recently purchased an Acer 5733.

Why will my new higher zoom setting not remain as such, until I wish to reset.

It seems erratic from one web page to another, and often automatically returns to 100%.

Sometimes when I return to previous viewed web pages, the higher setting will have remained.

If I set at 125% I want it to stay there!!

I heard that Windows 8 includes a new feature called Semantic zoom. Is it possible to play with this feature if I install Windows 8 Ultimate and by using mouse keys.

I want to know whether this zoom feature only works with touch devices.

A:Semantic zoom in Windows 8

Hello Windowsguy, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Not sure mouse keys would work with Semantic Zoom.

The Semantic Zoom interaction is performed with the pinch and stretch gestures (moving the fingers farther apart zooms in and moving them closer together zooms out), or by holding the Ctrl key down while scrolling the mouse scroll wheel, or by holding the Ctrl key down (with the Shift key, if no numeric keypad is available) and pressing the plus (+) or minus (-) key.

If you like, the links below can help give more details and information about Semantic Zoom.

I'm running a Toshiba 1905-S301 laptop (2 gig speed, 1 gig mem, 300 gig hd) with Windows 7 (32 bit) I thought I'd try the Zoom 4411 wireless-n USB adapter. It works great and I have the advertised transfer speed (54) for using on a USB 1.1 port.

My problem happens when I shut down Windows when the adapter is plugged in. A few seconds after the normal shutdown sequence begins I get a blue screen showing a system minidump. It never goes into shutdown, but instead reboots and brings up Windows 7 again with the failure noted as an unexpected shutdown sequence. If I pull the adapter and then go for a shutdown the process takes longer than usual (over a minute vice 15 seconds), but it eventually completes the shutdown and doesn't reboot on its own. Nothing appears to not work after the reboot and I can reacquire a network connection with the Zoom device any time I want.

Booting and shutting down with the adapter never installed is normal. An interesting failure, but one I'd like to eliminate.

i really like the flip 3d feature of win7, but i still find it is hard to read the contents of what is showed... to be really useful.. i'd like to be able to zoom in a bit more on the 3d flip so i can tell 1 outlook message from another a bit better (w/out straining)...

Is there any way to zoom in the camera perspective of the flip 3d? There must be a setting somewhere that governs this graphic setting.

A:Flip 3D Windows - ZOOM

If you Google "flip3d" then settings you will see different sites to select from.
Check them out and see what works for you.
