Preferred Solution: Windows XP Activation

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there
I recently changed a MOBO from an INTEL based one to one using an AMD PHENOM processor -- W7 didn't want any new activation rather surprisingly. (Broken Mobo and I had a spare ASUS MOBO lying around).

However the first time I switched to using a LAN cable instead of a Wifi USB adapter I got the "Hardware has changed - please activate windows. OK it activated fine -- however seems strange to me that a MOBO change didn't call for any activation (Disks, memory, DVD device etc were canaballized from the old machine) but a simple switch from Wifi to a LAN did. !!! The internal logic of the activation process seems totally illogical and bizarre. (Running W7 x-64 ULTIMATE). !!!

Cheers

I recently performed a system recovery because I was unable to back up to earlier time before we started having computer issues. Anyway I performed a recovery. Stumbled accross this by accident that windows has 3 days before it wall automatically activate. So I clicked activate. It gave me this message header. "The Windows Vista Home Premium product key you typed is invalid for windows activation". There are 3 options. 1 is to Buy a new product key online. 2 is to type a different product key. 3 is to contact Hewlett-Packard Company to resolve this issue. I contacted Hewlett-Packard Company and they had me call Microsoft. Microsoft wants to charge me $100 for something I already own. Very confused. Anyway does anyone have a fix for this. Thank you

A:Windows Vista Home Premium product key you typed is invalid for windows activation

Hi
You have two choices:
You may either reinstall using the recovery partition, if you have one.
or
You could look for the key on the computer. It can be anywhere, including the battery compartment, if you have a lappy.
As a last restort you can try to use magic jelly bean, but I have doubts since you reinstalled.

Hi Gents,

Hope someone can help me here. I've been using a retail version of Win7 Home premium 64 for about 2 years now with no issues.

During that time I've reinstalled the product possibly 6 or 8 times. Excessive I know but when things start to go wrong I like to start fresh again. Anyway from memory the last 2 times I have had to use phone activation.

A couple of weeks ago I dropped my laptop and killed the HDD. Put in a new one and reinstalled Win. I've just tried to activate with no luck. I went to phone activation and being lazy I typed in my old code I had saved from last time.

Now I can't activate and when I try and open the phone activation box I get a pop up from the toolbar saying the copy isn't genuine and nothing more.

Is there a way to resolve this or have I pissed off the activation so much that I actually have to shell out for a new copy?

Thanks in advance and I'm located in Thailand if that makes a difference.

Hi guys , I installed ATI 2010 Home, Boxed version made a backup image to external HDD. got a message saying I had 30 days to activate trial version? I restored the backup image and I activated ATI , offline, I then received a message saying thanks successfully installed. When I access ATI now I get the same box asking for activation again. the options are Try out, Buy, Activate, Cancel . I was thinking of reactivating online , but am wary of further messing up the install . I have not registered the product yet , Had a look at the Acronis register page ( they tell you Not recommended to access the page) ? Any ideas with this one ? options uninstall , reinstall? Try activate online? Anyone experienced this problem?

Hiya,

I am having a problem with my windows 7 home premium 64bit. I wiped my computer to try and get a new graphic card to work( never got it working, gave up and went back to my old graphic card) Since then I have had to wipe my computer a number of times, I kept having to wipe my computer since the same problem kept happening. Which is that my windows will crash and wont work after about 1-2mins after start up.

I thought it was my disk so I installed it from a usb windows installer and has been runnign fine for about 2 weeks until I was free to do the phone activation of my windows, I phoned up the activation after using my computer for a while then after I phoned and it came up genuine (like normal) I went to get a drink befor doing more work and once getting back to my computer I opened a new tab on firefox it was very slow on the internet so I clsoed my browser and tried to reopen it and but it woulnd't open windows has frozen completely so I pressed the restart button on my case and let it boot up and then it wouldn't let me do anything.

Does anyone have any idea of how come my computer seem to freeze and refuse to work once I use the windows phone activation?

A:Windows wont work after using windows 7 home phone activation

What makes you think it is the activation? Did you go click on "Start Button", right click on "Computer" and left click on "Properties"? When the screen comes up scroll down to the right bottom of the screen and you should see a "Genuine Windows Logo". If it says something different then there is an activation problem.

We purchased a VLK with Software Assurance from a local distributor here my question is what if from their VLSC License the Operating System listed are

10 Windows 7 Professional
82 Windows 8 Enterprise
15 Windows 7 Enterprise

We don't want to install Windows 8 as of now to our office and we wanted to retain the Windows 7 Pro and Enterprise as our Operating System. Do we have a problem for Activation if we still insists to used Windows 7 Pro and Enterprise Operating System using the Windows 8 Enterprise 82 Licenses?

Thank you very much

A:Activation Windows 8 Enterprise VLK but wanted to install Windows 7Ent

There is no way you can use a Windows 8 Enterprise licence for anything else than Windows 8 Enterprise. You simply can not activate Windows with a product key belonging to another Windows version and edition.

With those licences you can install and activate 27 25 Windows 7, not a single more.

I just completely reformatted my computer after a suspected malware attack.
The first thing I tried after reformatting and doing a clean install of Windows 7 Professional 64 bit edition was to run windows update. I received the error code 80072EFD. This is before I installed any software, firewalls, or antivirus programs. I also get this same error when trying to activate windows or office, or when trying to set up Microsoft media center.

I have been in contact with microsoft, but nothing has worked so far. I thought I would see if anyone here had any ideas.

I have a very specific question that i can not find an answer.

I bought a new pc and i want to buy Windows 10 Pro. I have found a very good price for a Windows 7 Pro license which will give me a free upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.

I will have the key in the following days but the pc is assembled and ready.

(1)Can i clean install Windows 10 Pro and activate it with the windows 7 pro key that has never been activated even for a windows 7 machine or
(2)should i first install windows 7 pro, activate it with the key and then clean install windows 10 and activate it with the windows 7 pro key

Thank you.

Hi Trod,
You can install W10 NOW and you dont have to activate it immediately, theres a 30 day grace period.
So when you get your W7 package you can activate it with the product key.
Windows 10 - Clean Install - Windows 10 Forums.

note your purchased W7 pro licence MUST be either System builder or retail or it will not activate

I recently had problems with my computer, and had to replaces my hard drive and memory. I therefore had to install Windows XP again. We have a few computers at home, each of which came with an XP recovery disk. I took one of these (it could have been from another computer - I'm not sure) and installed Windows again. I now have a countdown for my 30 day activation period. My problem is I dont have an internet connection on that computer, and am unable to activate. I researched this online, and the solution seems to be to back up the files wpa.dbl and wpa.bak from my previous sytem and replace them onto the new Windows. However, I only found this out now, and have therefore lost the old files. The old hard drive is corrupt and therefore cant recover them from there. Does anyone know of another solution and can someone provide me with those 2 files? Many thanks.

Tonight, I was working on my cousin's computer, who had a virus, and who did not have any recovery discs or windows discs. I had to reinstall XP. I copied her windows key down with a program called Belarc Advisor, then began to reformat using MY XP disc. Little did I know, you have to use the key that was issued with the disc. Back to my house and back. So now she has Windows installed, but I didn't activate it because I don't know how - or if there is a way - to call Microsoft or something and use her Win XP key, instead of mine that was used when installing.

Surprisingly, when I entered the activation code on the phone, the automated voice gave me a new code, no questions asked, despite me having used this copy of XP in the past. (Is XP support discontinued now?)

If I should want to use my copy of XP again (I'm not using it right now), I don't want to run into validation problems and have her need to buy a copy of Windows out of the blue because I needed to use mine. I don't know if this will happen - I'm not sure on how validation and product keys work.

Can anyone tell me how to change the key over to hers, or if I'll be running into any trouble? As I've said, we both have perfectly legal keys of XP, and I could even call Microsoft and have them verify them if I had to. I just had to use my disc because I seem to be the only one that understands how important it is to keep up with installation discs and keys.

A:Windows activation - please help

if it is your disk and your code and you do not plan to give it to your cousin, then it is an illegal install.

You will need the proper xp version in order to use her key. Did the computer not have a hidden partition? Usually if a computer did not come with recovery disks theen there is a hidden partition where you can do a reinstall. Exactly what computer maker and model?

For my birthday this year, I was getting a brand new motherboard, cpu and ram. My old motherboard we had bought several years ago had been recalled due to problems (which we later found out after the return policy ended, so I have had to deal with my computer restarting itself automatically whenever it pleases for the last 5 years or so now). My dad took me up to Fry's Electronics (a 5 hour trip total there and back) because nobody else around here sells those sort of computer parts we needed. We bought the parts, came home and started putting things together only to find out the sales rep. sold us ram that wasn't compatable with the motherboard We had to turn around and go back up again that next day for another 5 hour trip in our 20 year old car which barely made it home to get the ram.... We got everything put together last night, and nothing will run properly with Windows ME now! Apparently, it was made for Windows 2K or XP. My modem kept coming up just as "PCI Slot" and apparently it didn't want to see it. The other PCI cards seemed to work fine. There were other problems as well when I tried to use ME (like the disk for the Drivers saying the OS is not supported so I couldn't install drivers for the motherboard) The mouse (wireless opitical) even died on me -_-

I figured I would give Win XP a try again and see how it runs on here now. In the past, every single time I tried to install it, the system would restart constantly during the se... Read more

I purchased this laptop in July of 2014 from Micro Center. It came with Windows 8 installed. I upgraded to 8.1 and then finally Windows 10.  This is a personal laptop I use infrequently. I tried numerous fixes and finally had to settle for a full clean recovery.  That worked well and I'm now back to 8.0 however I now keep getting the notice:  "You Need To Activate 8.0 (without it I can't update to 8.1 and without that I can't get to 10 if that option is still available). Hello, Welcome to the HP Support forum. If you upgraded to Windows 10 (from 8/8.1) and if Windows 10 was successfully activated back then, you are entitled to use Windows 10 using a Digital Entitlement method of activation with out key. If you prefer, you can install Windows 10 and it should activate fine.More info and how this can be done , here:>> http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/Trying-to-Boot-From-USB/td-p/582...>> https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12440/windows-10-activation  If you prefer to stay on Windows 8/8.1, please let me know how you installed it now. This is important. Did you perform HP Recovery using F11 method / built-in recovery partitions ? If this was not used and you install Windows 8 by other means (other type of Windows 8, not OEM one), you will need a recovery media >> http://www.computersurgeons.com/p-25017-windows-8-64-bit-usb-recovery-kit-736803-003-for-hp-pavilion...  You can also read this article with general advice and steps about Windows 8/8.1 activation issues:>> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03486254>> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03486254#AbT4  Looking forward to your update, clarification and comments. Hopefully someone can help me. (I'd try retyping the long digit product key in that I always had, but it's at my parents' house where I'd hopefully find it.)

Hi, Are you sure it came with Windows 8.1 Pro (64bit) ? If yes the key is in the BIOS of your machine, please use the following tool to get it:   http://www.belarc.com/free_download.htmlWhen run this tool, it produces a report, scroll down to Software Management section. If I changed my motherboard after I activated my Windows 7 OEM. Can I still re-activate the Windows 7 OEM or do I need to buy a new one?

A:Re-activation of Windows 7 OEM.

Welcome
The rules of OEM say only on one computer.
The defintion of a new computer is a new MB.
So technically, you have to buy a new OS

However
If you activate by phone, by not putting in your number when asked and unchecking the box, activate automatically when online then explain to a rep, most likely they will let you activate.

I had my computer cleaned up after it was infected, so I lost the Chinese language as well. I was told to reinstall windows xp in order to add Chinese back, so I did that using a CD I bought from the computer store. I followed the steps till I was asked to "activate" xp, and I did that. The screen froze after I clicked "yes". I also tried to reboot using F12, but it gave me the same message after a few steps.

I'm buying a new computer tower with no OS installed, but I have XP installed on my current tower. Would it be possible to just tell Microsoft I've upgraded and use the same key and activate successfully. The licence is still stuck to the side of my current computer with the number on.

I have the full installation CD. I realise that it's "tied" to this computer. But when you significantly upgrade hardware, you need to reactivate. So what makes the PC the PC - how much can you upgrade before it becomes a different PC?

Obviously, I'm technically buying a new unit, but how do MS know that?

Simply because, whats the point in buying a whole new XP when vista comes out start of next year.

A:Windows XP Activation - new pc

Hi

Not liking your chances too much

If the current version is on a OEM pc then it will tied to the bios of that motherboard and you will not be able to activate it

If you have a full version bought standalone then you will have to call microsoft at activation as the hardware will be completely different. I don't think they will take too kindly to it.

I installed a new windows 7 Pro license on a refurbished PC with a new Sandisk SSD. Almost immediately after activation and before an image could be made the SSD failed completely. Sandisk replaced the drive, and I reinstalled Win 7, but since it had been
activated, I cannot do so again.

I understand that it is possible to talk directly to a MS person and get the previous activation removed. However I have not been able to find a phone number on the MS web site(s) to accomplish this.

Is there a phone number or direct email that will allow me to resolve this?

I installed Windows 7 x64 hp on a new computer that I build. I installed it from a CD-Rom. The problem ist that the Product Key from that CD has already been used to the limit. However I do have another Product Key also for windows 7 x64 hp. Now...my problem is that I'm not sure if the second Key will work because in the activation center it shows me that there is an Product ID. Will it work even though the Product ID and the Product Key dont match?
Even if it would work, would that count as an activation for the Key or the ID? Because the ID is registered to the CD and that has already its limit reached.

Another question is: what actually happens if you install and activate the same product too many times? Will Microsoft deactivate the first activation? I dont want all my computers to crash!!

Please Help

A:Help with the activation of Windows 7

Generally speaking, an install CD is a licence for one and only one installation. Any more than that is illegal and subject to penalties. There are a very few exceptions, and if you are one of the legal exceptions, you need to fully explain how you qualify before any help will be coming from this site.

Hi Step 1 Create Recovery media, I suggest DVD's, to re-install OS at a later date. Step 2 Backup your data, either to about 30 DVD's or perhaps use a 128 gig SD card which is slow like a DVD. Step 3  OR consider shrinking the C:\ partition and creating a 250 gig  Data partition. When your Hard Drive fails just how important is your data?  How will you recover it from a DEAD HDD?  So make a backup plan now and carry it thru. NOW if you have done Step 1 you can consider rolling back to W 8.X if you wish, if you have also done Step 2 then you can roll back and consider your position from there. Without a set of RECOVERY MEDIA and a DATA Backup you will be in the sad state of a broken system.  So please ask again when you have done something positive about your OS and Data.

You have an HP Win7 OEM_SLP Key on an eMachine built well before Windows 7 was released.

You need either to input a genuine Key for Windows7, or reformat and reinstall using the manufacturer's Recovery media for the original OS that was shipped with the PC - probably Vista.

I recently gave my parents one of my older PCs. The PC had Windows ME. I purchased the XP upgrade disk and installed it with no problem. One of the requirements of the install is that the new windows program needed to be activated in 30 days. I was curious on what happens if I do not activate the program in 30 days.

Does windows stop running or does look like a bootleg program to microsoft ?

Thanks

T

A:Windows Activation

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307890Activation is required in 30 days from the first day that you start Windows XP. If you want to activate Windows on a day that is later than the day that you install it, a Windows Activation icon appears in the notification area. This icon periodically displays notifications to remind you about how much time remains before you must activate. After the 30 days has expired, you must activate Windows to continue using Windows.

Hi

I work for local goverment. We bought several PCs with Windows 7 but had them rolled back to XP for deployment.

We paid for the Windows 7 OS, and additionaly a license for the XP that was loaded. So, several of us took the Windows 7 CD that came with the new laptops and installed it on our current laptops. But it won't activate. It says the product key is incorrect.

No product key came with the software, I assume it's embedded some how in the software, but it seems impossible that it would know the laptop it came with from Dell.

Does anyone know about this? It's all valid, nothing shady going on, just loaded a purchased version of Windows 7. There is no product key on the packaging or on the computer it shipped with.

thanks
