Yoga 300 Trackpad/Windows 10 issues and general slowness

Q: Yoga 300 Trackpad/Windows 10 issues and general slowness

I purchased a Yoga 300 less than a week ago and ever since purchase it has been running laggily. It was a display model (I realise this may be part of the reason it lags); however I have had particular trouble with my trackpad. Every time I tried to scroll with two fingers, it would jerkily try to catch up, and beeped loudly. I downloaded the new Windows 10 driver to fix this issue, only now it only scrolls when it decides to, and slowly at that! Currently I can only scroll by using the cursor on the screen, or with the arrow keys (which is also laggy). I have tried to access the additional mouse options via Settings, but it comes up with an error message saying "Windows can't access the specified device, path or file".Please help!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

My computer has been generally slow for a while, but suddenly one day it was having a lot of issues. 3 blue screens over the course of two hours despite only using chrome type issues.

I set it up to check the C-drive, restarted to initiate that and went to bed.

The next day it seemed to be fine. The day after that I shut down and when I came back I noticed it was on the log-in screen as if it had restarted instead of shut down. So I logged in and shut it down again.

When I came back the next morning it was very slow to start-up, staying on the initializing screen after log in for 5-10 minutes. When it finally loaded all transparency was gone and it was extremely slow in general. When I tried to check the event viewer I got a "the snap-in is not responding" error and it wouldn't work. I checked for updates and saw there was one for my graphics card so maybe it was a graphics card issue, but the update errors. I tried checking the properties of my C-drive again but every time I right click it windows explorer errors and restarts.

I restarted again and it's very slow to open any new program. Even task manager takes a few minutes. Not sure what to do next.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My computer was having so many problems-- general slowless, wouldn't open things like explorer and control panel-- that I called Dell support and we ran a Windows XP repair.

That helped with windows opening, but now my computer:

1) will go into shutdown at random times
2) crash programs here and there
3) Won't do windows update and virus updates
4) Will not let me log into sign-on internet programs I've used before (Aim Express, for example)

At the advice of another support person, I uninstalled SP2. (I have a Dell Inspiron 8100 with Windows XP Home)

That did not help. Also, my explorer now says "Microsoft internet explorer provided by AT&T Worldnet Service" even though I am not connected through Worldnet anymore, but a university based direct connection.

I've done countless virus scans in safe mode and ad-aware scans, nothing helps! I'm afraid that I have a virus because I can't do any updates... please help!

A:SP2, Can't do Windows update, general slowness-- help!!

Please download HijackThis. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Run a scan and save the log file. Post the whole log file here. Do not fix anything since most of them listed there are harmless (some are system required). This program will help us determine if there is any spyware/malware on your computer.

This has been plaguing my Yoga 900 since I bought it and only gotten worse over time. I don't have tap to click enabled, so I have to click the trackpad down to do a left click. However, sometimes the click is not registered and other times it registers as two clicks. Is there any software setting to reduce the effects of this, or at least make the double clicks not happen? I tried reducing the double click interval and that hasn't helped.

Hi all, I am struggling with an issue that I have seen in other posts, but they date back to 2015, so I need to understand if this issue has been solved with new upgrades. My PC came with Windows 8.1. I upgraded it to 10 and all was going well. However, because of some issues with Office 2007 I decided to reset it from the system (not from the Novo button). All went well and the PC seemed to be "lighter" and faster, maybe also because all the preloaded software didnůt get installed. However, after working fine for a few days the trackpad became completely unresponsive. I tried a lot of things, including updating the BIOS and updating Synaptic, but nothing. Based on a conversation with Lenovo support I reset the PC again and the trackpad started to work again. Lenovo support told me to use the Novo button in order to go back to Windows 8.1, do all the necessary updated in 8.1 and then upgrade to 10, but I wanted to see first if the same system reset would do the trick. After 2 days the trackpad stopped working again and I realised that, like reported in other posts in this forum, the issue happens when the PC goes into sleep mode or hybernates (bacisally when I close the screen). This never happened before I reset the PC the very first time. In Device Manager the mouse disappears and I can see an I2C HID Device with a yellow tringle. I have tried to update the drivers by choosing the Synaptic device and using the drivers from Synap... Read more

Hi, We're going to be deploying ~150 Yoga 260 laptops in the next month and I am working on getting them to image with SCCM.  We are imaging them with Windows 7 (unfortunately). I am able to image them and I install the Screen Rotation Utility -- http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/ThinkPad-Yoga-Series-laptops/ThinkPad-... -- through SCCM and it installs fine, but when I fold the computer into Tablet mode it switches to portrait mode and stays there and does not automatically rotate. This will persist through a reboot.  It will stay like this until I switch it back manually (Screen Resolution --> Landscape).   If I click the auto-rotate button icon in the system tray area it will also switch to portrait mode until I manually change it back. Also when folded into Tablet mode the trackpad will stop working all together until a reboot.  A USB mouse will still work fine. I thought there was maybe a sensor hub driver that might go along with the screen rotate utility, but I didn't see one listed on the driver page (http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/ThinkPad-Yoga-Series-laptops/ThinkPad-... I installed an old version that I used when deploying the Yoga 12 last year, but it still does the same thing. In addition when trying to install the Hotkeys software (http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/ThinkPad-Yoga-Series-... As stated in the title, my computer is overall going really slow, and my Windows Explorer is crashing on a fairly regular basis; about every 2 or 3 minutes. I also lose my internet connection temporarily as Windows Explorer restarts. When my internet does load, there are a lot of sites that I can't access.

I've removed a number of various Trojan viruses already, but now I can't even boot up normally. Luckily, I can boot in safe mode with networking, so I can still access this site.

Thanks in advance!

I'm running Windows XP Home. About six weeks ago my computer was hit with the virus that mimics the AntiVir virus removal software; I downloaded Malwarebytes Spyware remover, ran it, downloaded a complimentary copy of Norton (via my ISP), ran that, and came up with a clean report. However, in the ensuing weeks when using Firefox I've gotten repeated pop-ups (generally directing me to a site telling me about an amazing way to make money from home off Google) and occasional Google searches redirected to other, unrelated sites. Meanwhile Microsoft's Windows Update site remains unaccessible and the machine generally continues to run slow.I'm attaching the requested files after running the recommended programs; note that running GMER took multiple attempts, as the first few times I ran it the program locked up my computer to the point that I had to manually switch it off. Re-downloaded and ran the recommended scan and was able to save a log, but am not entirely sure the scan was complete, and even saving the puny log file took a very long time before computer eventually had to be switched off again.Would much appreciate any help/guidance. Posting the logs below and happy to take whatever other steps recommended. Thanks in advance.

In this second post I am sharing the configuration to use with Notebook Fan Control software (probably some of you already know about this software if you hate the noise which fans of this laptop are able to do!). I added of course some considerations I noticed in preparing this config. Here we are... Yoga 3 1470 80JH using Windows 10 and NBFC 1.4.2.I appreciated a lot the work done by Mr. Cheeze but I found it incomplete, so I basically investigated the issue a bit more.I did not open the notebook but I found online that it is equipped with 2 fans. So, first step was adding the 2nd fan. Then I started to investigate if we can effectively control the fans and the answer is NO, but we can play a bit to force them to have a behavior. My target was only one: REDUCE the FANS NOISE and consequently their speed, because I think that this laptop is almost able to work in fanless mode (and believe me I stress it a lot, especially in terms of multitasking). Before showing my personal code to be used in NBFC I am giving you some information I retrieved by the Read&Write software (32bit version works well).?When Fans starts HEX values show up at position 6 and 254. These are the 2 actual speed values of the fans.?The target values (so where you have to write the desired fans speed) are in position 86 and 176. I am not totally sure if they are the effective position to write but they seem the only position which considerably vary according to the change of... Read more

My daughter is getting ready to go back to college with her laptop and just casually mentioned that it had been running slow before she came home. I tried to start it up and it takes forever to load. It takes a couple of minutes to open any of the icons on the desktop too (Mozilla, Word). I tried to clean up as best I could. I ran some spyware programs and antivirus and nothing too much showed up -- no viruses. It takes so long to run these programs that I go off and do other stuff and come back hours later and the scans are still running!

Is there anything that you can recommend to get the laptop running as it should?

Thanks for any and all your help.

I'm running Windows XP Home Edition. I've recently been getting lots of popups and a general slowness when using the internet. I use Firefox, but the popups appear to be run by Internet Explorer (at least, the task manager says iexplore.exe whenever the popups are there). The popup ads are mostly just fake antivirus software ads.

A couple weeks ago, I was infected with the Personal Guard 2009 garbage, but a quick run of AdAware seems to have gotten rid of at least that. However, the problems persist.

What I notice is that certain sites seem to go slowest of all. For example, I have horribly slow waiting times for sites like hotmail and facebook (perhaps because of how the sites are written? Java? Just a guess as I don't know much about it).

I tried AdAware again, and it does a good job of singling out the offending dll that seems to be responsible. A reboot will do the trick and my computer will be perfectly fine when browsing (no popups or slowness), but when I reboot again, a differently named dll has been dropped from who knows where back into my system32 folder, and proceeds to infect me all over again.

To top it all off, I am now getting a Stop 0x7E error when I attempt to boot in safe mode. My BIOS and drivers should all be fine, so I have no idea why this would happen.

Hi,

I'm having a couple of different issues with this PC. They include the following:

1. Some Window's updates won't install.
2. The McAfee Firewall seems to switch itself off.
3. Adobe Acrobat Reader files will no longer open. This seems to only be when I try opening it from attachments. I have a few files on my desktop which I can open.
4. The PC seems to be generally slow. It only seems to have gone this way in the past few months.
5. I just realised when I tried to download HijackThis, DDS and GMER that I couldn't download those files either.

I have included the required files. Hopefully somebody can spot if there are any issues as the data in them means very little to me :s

Hello, I have a new desktop computer (maybe around 6 months old) and there seems to suddenly be an issue with much longer load times for websites, slow responses, and popups or new tabs that open when browsing safe websites. I tired downloading Adware removal from here but I ran a scan and nothing seemed to show up? And I also tried downloading Combofix, but it said the app is not supported by Windows 2000, but I know this isn't Windows 2000. I thought this was a Windows 8 computer, but when I click the system info it seems to say 7, like next to restore (but it has the new windows logo and app screens?) Another very annoying feature is a small window on the bottom right of the screen will pop up and play an ad video that cannot be closed for 10 seconds. That window (and other ads) say "Ads by PrimaScope" next to them

I know I'm not giving a great description of what program/system I'm running on here, so any other info you need I'll try to find :D thanks

First of all you need to cut down your startup list you have way too many things running

Download About:Buster from:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4289.html
Double click aboutbuster.exe, click Update, click OK, click Start, then click OK.
Download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ (W2K/XP Only)
· Install ewido.
· During the installation, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
· Launch ewido
· It will prompt you to update click the OK button and it will go to the main screen
· On the left side of the main screen click update
· Click on Start and let it update.
· DO NOT run a scan yet. You will do that later in safe mode.

Restart your computer into safe mode now. Perform the following steps in safe mode:

Run Ewido:
· Click on scanner
· Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
· During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
· When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
· Save the report to your C: Drive
This will take some time to run!
Boot to normal mode
Post that log and a new HiJack log – If the Ewido log is too large attach it.

Hi there,

As you may tell very quickly from the following i am by no means a computer wizard. Since moving from one broadband company to another my computer has become sluggish. Programmes take longer to load, the computer takes longer to boot up etc....It may be the fact that a lot of software is running from start up / i have one or more virus progs running / i have little hard drive space left ??? / Somthing else i have no idea about / All of the above !! I have no idea. When i entered this site i was redirected to a website cleaning up svchost files ?? About a year ago my computer was riddled with viruses and someone here very kindly turned the computer from a trip to the dump to like new again. Im wondering if i may have some after effect from that left ? I have not had any viruses since that very painful and annoying time. Anyway, any help would be most grateful. Over the last few months, my computers being getting quite slow. I get a lot of those 'low virtual memory' warnings and then my computer started closing explorer every time I tried to use it. I did some googleing and managed to fix the explorer problem (had to delete a codec pack, no idea what's up with that) but I'm still worried about the slowness. I've run spybot, adaware, superantispy and AVG and managed to clean up a lot of stuff, but when I ran hijackthis and put it though the auto analyzer at http://hjt.networktechs.com it labels ctfmon.exe with "CoolWebSearch ctfmon32 parasite variant". This sounds bad, should I let hijackthis fix it? Here's my log in case you need to see it.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

This has been driving me crazy for days...how can I avoid doing work when this is happening!!!

Last week my work computer contracted some sort of virus which slows everything down immensely, especially browsers (IE 7 works sort-of okay but Firefox is useless--I can check GMail but when GChat tries to load, I get a "problem" #104) and, of course, is re-directing all my web searches to random shopping sites.

I have scanned the computer numerous times with AVG but nothing is found. I have uninstalled and re-installed Firefox. I suspected the 7.7.7.0 virus but the 7770 Finder returns nothing. I have downloaded SDFix but it won't run at all. I also have a log file from HiJackThis but I don't know how to read it.

One of my co-workers is experiencing the same problem; the IT guy said he fixed it (not sure what he did to her computer) but her problem remains.

I am using WindowsXP Professional version 5.1.

Please, someone, help me! I will bake you delicious cookies. Thank you so, so much!

Ok, so about 8 months ago, I bought a very expensive computer from Dell (I know... stupid) and Up untill recently Ive been happy with it, I mean its had a few problems every now and then, but nothing too major, however Ive recently noticed that its started to generally feel a little slower, the computer seems to have a few moments where it will freeze up for a second or two and allot of the games I use have started to simply crash, for example today I was playing World In Conflict and after 6 minuites or so it simply just froze and went black although I could still hear the game playing in the background I couldnt minimize back onto it and it said it was not responding.

For about two days my CPU usage went from 1 - 5% idle up to about 50% at idle, however I performed and error check on my Hard Drive and its now gone back to 1 - 5% usage, during games it dosent shoot up that much, however if Im rendering something it goes to 90%-100%. My Ram usage is generally at around 50-60%. I use Nod 32 and I defrag my computer often, Im going to open up the case shortly to make sure its not all cloged up with dust, but it shouldnt be as a I clean it like once a month or so. I'd really like some help on this, oh and a heads up, im going away on the 5th for 3 weeks so If i dont hear from anyone before I go, I look forward to hearing from you all when I get back .

Would you like me to post any of my specs? If so, please say what and where they are.

Start-ups are taking forever, i'm talking a good 10-15 mins before i'm at a stage where it will allow me to start opening a program, which in itself takes a good while. Secondly, whenever a new program opens which has not been opened since start-up, everything will freeze for a few minutes, even if it's just the windows calculator. Basically, everything is slow and clunky. It feels cluttered, but there really isn't much bloat-wear that is intentionally on here. I'm even tempted to say the HDD is on the way out, but I thought i'd let you experts take a browse of my logs as a few things came up as suspect.

Oh, just quickly before the actual logs, just one last symptom. Whenever I alt tab out of a game (and it's only noticable when it is a game) I get the usual 1-2 seconds of black screen whilst it swaps back to the desktop, but in this black screen is what looks like a pop up saying something along the lines of "try some of these similar catagories" then listing some links. You cannot use the popup as th... Read more

My computer has been running very slow for a while now, i often get random freezes and EVERYTHING is slow. playing music in itunes is impossible, songs stop randomly then resume several seconds later.
furthermore google chrome crashes randomly and says either unknown plugin is unresponsive or shockwave flash. even right clicking to resolve spelling mistakes while i was tying this meant waiting 30 plus secs for the right click menu to load.

The problem is sometimes more severe and sometimes less crippling, i often resort to turning my laptop off from the power button because everything is frozen, even CTRL + ALT + DEL just says preparing security options for a crazy amount of time, HELP!!

Hello sosoilent,

This may not be malware related. Take a look at all the errors in the Event Viewer section in the Attach.txt

Please download aswMBR.exe and save it to your desktop.

Double click aswMBR.exe to start the tool. Select Yes if prompted to download the Avast database.
Click Scan
Upon completion of the scan, click Save log and save it to your desktop, and post that log in your next reply for review. Note - do NOT attempt any Fix yet.
You will also notice another file created on the desktop named MBR.dat. Right click that file and select Send To>Compressed (zipped) file. Attach that zipped file in your next reply as well.

Hi, I downloaded (and subsequently uninstalled) a programme called livetv player. Even after the uninstall the pop-ups from this programme seemed to remain. These pop-ups are from a company called 'Favorit', or that is at least what it says at the title bar. I am also experiencing general slowness, and jumpiness when streaming things off youtube/vimeo etc.

Any help getting rid of this nonsense would result in much gratitude from my end!

Hi,

I am trying to clean up a laptop for a relative whose daughter used it. She seems to have clicked on all sorts of ad-baits and other programs, which has brought down the overall performance of the machine. I know a re-install would be better overall, but I can't do that right now. I would appreciate any assistance you can provide on how to proceed with this.

The relative first installed Microsoft Windows defender, but I'm not sure what he did. I installed malwarebytes and ran that, and found lots of issues. I quarantined them, which now causes issues when Windows first starts up, and runs sporadically. I disabled anything I couldn't identify under services and also under startup programs. I also installed Avast, but haven't had a chance to run a virus scan successfully.

Hey, Ive recently noticed that my computer has taken alot longer to boot up then usual, in addition to this, it seems like it has little mini freezes alot more often then it used to. Ive also noticed just a general slowness in opening programs and even just browsing through the web. So I was wondering if I had malware or a virus of sorts. After scanning my computer with Malwarebytes, it shows that two things were present, "Malware.Packer.Krunchy and PUP.Hacktool.Office.
