Downloading and image downloading/moving problems

Q: Downloading and image downloading/moving problems

I am having problems with downloading like zip and installation files. When ever I download a installation file like say Quicktime 7 it would be corrupted about 50%-75% of the time I download it.
Zip files usually have atleast one file that has a "CRC check failed" and sometimes if I try to extract that file once again it doesn't give me that message. I tried to reinstall WinZip again but it still gives me the problem so don't think it is the programs fault.

Image problems happen when I try to move a picture file to another folder or when I try to save an image(less likely to happen but still once in a while). It seems like the higher the resolution or size of the image the more likely it would happen. Also though I am not sure but if it try to move a large number of picture files at once it happens more often though maybe it is just because I am moving more picture files.

Here is an example of what happens when I try to move/download a picture file:
Note: it is just a random picture that I downloaded to use as an example. The white part on the top of the image is normal it was part of the original image.

The orginal: http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/4986/cars4yv.jpg
Some of the images that got "screwed up". I move 128 copies of the image at once.

The comp is a Win2k but not sure what service pack. I am sure it is not service pack 4, though I have an update rollup for service pack 4... So if anyone can offer me some help it would be greatly appreciated since I really don't know what to do..

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Alright, so I have an 120gb ssd and a 1tb hhd. For some reason everything large saves to my ssd like games which can be upwards of 50gb. Ive already set all the download locations as the hdd but everything wants to save to the other place anyhow, and nothing is able to be moved from the ssd to hdd. Any thoughts?/?

Now is there a simple utilit thaty i can use to accomplish this or maybe some other thing i'm overlooking. I forgot to mention of course when i reboot the computer restart files explorer it works, but this is time consuming, i love windows and of course i am here looking, and hoping to hear from you all, i'm sure one of our esteemed users can point me in the right direction.CHEERS! another edit, I am using win 7 ultimate and i just did this, i open the folder in foobar play a track delete the track from foobar close foobar, restart foobar then close it go back to the folder and move it sucessfuly. I wonder if you can help me.

The last few days I've had a strange problem with Internet Explorer on Windows 98 2nd ed.

For some reason it isn't downloading images anymore, just the backgrounds and the text, no pictures. Sometimes, when I've just connected, it might download one or two images on a site and then it just stops and the rest of the page downloads and there's just placeholders instead of the rest of the images.

Say I do a Google image search, on the first page one or two pictures might download at the top and the rest stay as placeholders and in the status bar it says, '24 items remaining' but the status bar reaches the end and it just stops. If I then click on the next page, no images download, just empty placeholders. (Sorry if that was too much detail :) )

Would appreciate your help.

Thanks for your time--

If they changed the appearance, is it possible they did not upload your picture again? It sounds as if the file is either not on the remote site or is in the wrong place.

I am running win98 and have an HP M307 digital. For two years, I have been clicking on "Get Images" in Image Zone Express and the process starts with where the last picture was downloaded. All of a sudden, the software will not download pictures from the camera. I didn't do anything differently--the process begins but stops before any pictures are downloaded.

Any ideas?? All help appreciated. Thanks!

A:Solved: HP Image Zone Express not downloading from camera

Have you downloaded the drivers for your camera ??
Are you using a USB connection to get your pictures ??

If you click on "My Computer", when the camera is turned on .. does the camera show up as a Drive ??

It's really best if you can figure out a way to get your pictures another way .. besides using HP's software.

When downloading small files everything is alright though for some reason when i try to download bigger files say anything bigger then 300 mb the download dose not complete. it gets to about 300 mb and then says the download is complete even though there is alot more. this has happened on several different servers and not with the same download. At first i thought it might be my computer going to sleep and stopping the download only i remember it going to sleep before with things downloading and it did not effect the download. I usually use fire fox as my web browser but ive also used IE too to see if it also had this problem with the same effect. I let the download go using both programs separate times while playing solitaire to keep the computer from hibernating and both times they got to about 300 mb and ended the download with there still allot to go. I do not know what the problem might be this has not happened to me before. any help would be appreciated as since its happened with two different internet browsers i do not believe they are at fault.

Just did a full deep scan with Kaspersky, so shouldn't be viruses. It could theoretically be the site I'm downloading from, but I've seen mention of this particular problem on other forums for other reasons and with various solutions, but want to get an expert opinion on what is going on before I go about accusing the publisher of publishing damaged downloads.

I've downloaded files from this forum, a published modification for a game, and the download operates fine. I go to unzip the exe and run it and I get a notice that the file is corrupted. I ran the exe anyways with some caution, because I've used the mod before a number of years ago, and it installed the mod -- and gave me a number of notices that 'this file cannot be installed because it is missing/corrupt', whatever. Other than that, it'll complete the install relatively fine ...

But there aren't forums screaming with people going 'Why is the download broken?', so ... I'm tending to think it might be my computer that's the problem, especially getting the same error trying to download two completely separate modifications.

Attached is a Report from Everest on my system.

A:Problems Downloading

Past all of this, the first simple troubleshooting step I would try is: Have you tried downloading this on another machine and seeing if it unzips properly there without the "corrupt file" error? If so, it is likely one of two things:
1. Download manager or other software interfering with the download (possibly virus but you seem to have narrowed the possibility for that down).
2. Bad format or hard drive failure, such that the sector the file is being downloaded to is becoming corrupt.

I had a problem with this for a while with one OS, where within minutes of downloading a file by various means (HTTP, FTP, Torrent, or even copy from USB), the file would no longer match the file it had been. It would not match checksum and the file size would sometimes even vary, or in the case of Torrents, my client would indicate the file had downloaded bad and try to download again. I think at the time the OS was XP. Turns out it was my NTFS volume, needed a full erase and rebuild.

EDIT#1: #2 should really indicate that it is possibly the NTFS volume. Anyhow, onward.

EDIT#2: As an alternative, if you have not access to another PC, get a friend to download the file to their PC, and unzip, and determine if it has that "corrupt file" error.

You may be able to get them to bring you the install on a USB drive or something?

I have been having trouble downloading anything while using Windows XP.

It used to be just fine, but now the download usually freezes somewhere around the midpoint.

I have a cable modem.

Neither Explorer nor Mozilla Firefox will function correctly in this respect.

Explorer always says filesize: unknown. Mozilla always says ?????? bytes remaining. After a while the downloading just stops.

Usually neither opening them from their present location nor saving to dist works. If i just try to open a jpeg or mpeg, it just plays the first 3 seconds in quicktime.

I thought that I had disturbed something by installing a cd/dvd writer on my machine, along with Nero and InCD. It had worked until about that time. I disconnected the new cd/dvd drive, and uninstalled all the new software, with indeterminate results. I've harldly been able to download anything.

I'd appreciate any advice at all.

Thank you.

I seem to be having problems with IE after Norton AntiVirus found some sort of Trojan Horse that was supposed to cause problems for Internet Explorer? It sounds like you need help with cleaning out malware, please follow the instructions here, and post the logs in a new thread in the malware removal section.

After running through all the steps, please post the requested logs in the Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help forum, not here.

If you have trouble with one of the steps, simply move on to the next one, and make note of it in your reply.

Please note that the Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help forum is extremely busy, and it may take a while to receive a reply.

Try choice 2 .

W95 you have 3 choices . With W98 , if you have IE5.1 or higher & you
still have IE4 installed the following applies . No IE4 only 2 choices .
IE5.5 if over the top of 5.1 , offers 3 choices .

You can install IE5.1 straight over 4 . A big feature with IE5 is that
it can be repaired without uninstalling . Here is how to do it . Open
Control Panel , Add / Remove , click on Microsoft Internet Explorer ,
then click on add / remove down the bottom . This opens a window with
3 choices .

Choice 1. Add , insert your IE5 install program & you can find other
items you may not have installed 1st time .

Choice 2. Repair , fixes problems that may crop up with IE5 / Outlook

Choice 3. If unfixable , removes IE5 & goes back to IE4 , now if you
want to you can reinstall IE5 or a later version or another browser
altogether .
Or upgrade to ,

Hello and welcome to TSG forums. From what you've written its a little hard to help with your problem. We really need as much information as possible about the problem in order to solve it.
Ok, some more information about your PC will be helpful.
What are the Specs of your computer? Ie. CPU, RAM, Video Card...
What Operating System are you using? Ie. Win98, winXP....
Also where are you downloading these games from? Its possible they are compressed or something and that is stopping you from installing them. What exactly do you mean by "only gives me some weird read only thing." Try to describe in as much detail what is happening.
Another note, it is against the TSG rules to support piracy of games and other software. So please make sure the games you are trying to download are legal copies.

If you haven't done so, I would suggest you to upgrade the router's firmware. As for random disconnects, it could be the ISP resetting your connection because of high bandwidth usage. For bittorrent, you need to setup port forwarding on the router for TCP ports 6881-6999. All you need to do is type in in your browser's address bar and you look for port forwarding, check your router's manual if you need more help on that.

My problem is that downloads start and then quit at no consistent point. Sometimes I can get 100 megs downloaded before it stops and sometime only a few megs. I have found this to be the same with the three browsers I use. Netscape 8, Flock, and IE7. To make matters worse when I have a stock ticker running it constantly stops and reestablishes the connection. Many times when I go to a website nothing loads but if I stop it and reload it will load. My fire wall is, zone alarm, as is my antivirus program both paid versions. I have tried turning these off to see if it worked then but got the same problem. I am convinced it must be some registry value in XP but I have only two hairs left to pull out so I thought I would ask for help.

Any ideas?

Hi, my machine seems to run fine when I am on the Internet but as soon as I load up any torrent client within an hour it freezes my machine completely to a stage where I need to turn the computer off by the power button. I have got Sky Broadband (upto 12mb connection) and a D-Link DWL-122 wireless adapter. Do I need to change some settings within my router? If I was to use a wired connection would it make any difference. I would try this but I need to buy a 20metre cable. Thanks.

A:Downloading Problems

1. Many cable providers such as comcast are not only installing technology to defeat P2P software, but also are now having contracts where it is forbidden by users as it sucks up too much bandwidth.

2. P2P software is inherently dangerous due to viri and trojans on unprotected systems. This is foolish and risky computer behavior.

I've recently downloaded Limewire and Azureus but I haven't been able to download anything..
I think it might be down to my Firewall, but I don't know...

The problem in Limewire is that it's won't connect.....It is always 'Connecting'...

I use Avira Premium Security Suite.....I've also noticed that my windows firewall keeps closing on restart as well...

Does't anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks for any replys...

Hey AdamR

I would personally uninstall Limewire, Its a P2P which will eventually eat your system alive lol
Its really bad for Viruses and as forum techs we cant help you when you use these products

We believe that the main purpose of P2P programs is to illegally download and use copyrighted material of whatever description. We further understand that there may be legal uses for P2P, but as we are not able to assess a user's intent when he/ she asks for help, we do not support P2P software and we will not assist any user in this regard. This includes but is not limited to Bearshare, Kazaa and many others.
