Windows 7 keeps crashing, freezing, black screen?

Q: Windows 7 keeps crashing, freezing, black screen?

Hi there. Recently my computer has been crashing an awful lot. I am just doing a task and, usually if it does, it will cut to black. The computer doesn't make any noise and I have to restart it. Sometimes it will freeze on the screen, once it actually cut to a completely white screen.

I always thought this was because I was using Google Chrome, it always seemed to be whilst that was loaded. However now its happening without that. Also, Firefox has become completely disabled, I click on the icon and nothing happens.

So, I have no idea why this is happening! It's very worrying as I am starting a new year at college next week. I have run several anti-virus checks, SpyBot checks, that sort of thing.

Please help! You might just save my life :/

Preferred Solution: Windows 7 keeps crashing, freezing, black screen?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello all - just joined the forum and added some system info to my profile.

Story so far:

All seemed well until trying to render video projects using Pinnacle Studio 11.1, when I would get random freezes or black screens with the pc being unresponsive, requiring power down (5 seconds holding the button) or reset.

After some time on Studio related forums I bought more RAM recommended from Crucial. No difference. I bought a new video card. No difference.

I defragged, updated drivers, updated bios. no difference.

I then started experimenting with Prime95 torture test, Memtest86+, PassMark's Burn-In Test and Windows Memory Diagnostic with the following results:

Memtest86+ completed one pass ok. Have not yet left it running for longer.

Prime95 runs overnight with no errors when testing large FFT's so far. It produces the black screen crash overnight on small FFT testing but was running ok for over 2 hours to start with.

PassMark Burn-In shareware only runs for 15mins before stopping. Occasionally this crashes or freezes.

WMD always fails on the Stride6 test. If I vary the RAM (original 512MB, new 1GB, or total 1.5GB) it will fail at diffent points during Stride6. Only once did it complete Stride6 (when running with 512MB RAM) but then failed on the 2nd pass. Reading other forums on Stride6 failures makes me think it could be a PSU, CPU or mobo issue.

Took the case off my PSU last night and noticed some corrosion and leakage from a capacitor. Bought and installe... Read more

This has been happening for awhile, I searched and followed a lot of different tests and solutions, none seem to work.

It usually crashes when playing games, sometimes my Firefox will crash, and when I click to restart, it will be instant blue screen. I have come to terms that it is not a RAM or overheating issue.

I rate myself a solid 7/10 on computer knowledge, so I really could use some help. Here is the 2 error codes I get (from "WhoCrashed"), its the same every time.

Bug check description: This indicates that a severe memory management error occurred.
This might be a case of memory corruption. More often memory corruption happens because of software errors in buggy drivers, not because of faulty RAM modules.
The crash took place in the Windows kernel. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver that cannot be identified at this time.

Pc just turns off and restarts when i'm in the middle of something. So far i think it's only happened when i play a game. My videocard is the radeon hd 7850, and i'm on the newest catalyst drivers.

In eventviewer i see a event for usermodepowerservice happening followed by a kernel-pnp source.

Kernel-PNP has this message in the description: "The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device SWD\WPDBUSENUM{9e95bf9f-3804-11e5-b395-448a5b607d83}#0000000000100000"

The usermodepowerservice thing has this message in the description "Process C:\Windows\System32\atieclxx.exe (process ID:1088) reset policy scheme from {381b4222-f694-41f0-9685-ff5bb260df2e} to {381b4222-f694-41f0-9685-ff5bb260df2e}"

further back there is also a kernel power error with an X that says in the description: The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly. I am pretty sure it's not the power supply as this started literally right after i upgraded to win 10.

I'm pretty sure this only happens when i try to play a game.

If it's an incompatible driver what are my options currently? If not what can i do to fix this?

Just recently on November 23, 2016, I just turned on the computer and suddenly, there was a bugcheck "MEMORY_MANAGEMENT". After that bugcheck, chkdsk started scanning, then after that, it rebooted normally and when after logging in to my PC, now I got black screen with cursor.

There were lots of errors in event log, mostly with Event ID: 7301 and most services suddenly started to stop running unexpectedly.

I checked up Reliability History, many were errors stating: InPageError

I don't know what caused this behavior, but Windows Defender says no viruses found.

Before this happened, I could put my computer on sleep without any problems. Now, when I put it on sleep, I turn it on, the screen freezes. I shut it down, start it again, and then the Loading Windows freezes. Another problem is a small one I felt like adding, is that the Windows 7 screen where it is loading up your computer, doesn't show for me. This is not a problem where other users could not log on. All mine does is have a black screen, then loads to my desktop. So it works fine, just that the screen doesn't show. Please help.

Do you have the win 7 dvd to do a repair install?

Do you have a backup, by chance?

On my 2nd X1 extreme, the first was bricked. Everytime I boot into Windows, I experience a freeze and afterwards a black screen after some time (a minute or so). The laptop became unusable in windows. I have all the windows and vantage updates. I disabled all remote management stuff in the bios, disabled all secure boot settings, set some keyboard preferences (swap ctrl-fn etc.) and changed my graphics adapter to discrete only. I tried windows restore and after experiencing some blue screens, that helps a bit: still freezing, but not always. When I reapply all windows and vantage updates the laptop goes back to the same behaviour: boot into windows and after a minute or so a total freeze, followed by a black screen some 5 seconds later and still later fans spinning up to full speed. The updates include the latest graphics drivers, and I think the issue maybe has something to do with these graphic updates, but not sure. Some more observations:- The laptop never froze when Windows was applying updates. This takes longer then the usual time to have it freeze.- During updating the laptop, when I logged into windows, I sometimes got a windows notification saying the gfx driver failed to start and windows is reverting to a generic driver. I can't remember exactly, but I think the laptop never froze when using the generic one. I run the machine in dual boot and on linux the behaviour is absent. It does have sleep issues in Linux where it also freezes when coming out of slee... Read more

This has been an issue that's eluded me for sometime. I'm not sure what caused it to start, but this is something that bothers me. It would be up to 1-2 hours before my computer will start freezing. Once this happens, it seems me processor skyrockets up to 70-80% and then freezing every 1-2 minutes before black screening.

This error was found in Application of Event Viewer:

Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.

I'm not sure if this error is directly related to my issue, but I was posting as much information for you guys to work with.

I put new memory into a friends computer. She has an HP Pavilion 511w. It came with 128 MB and can hold up to 512. I got the right memory because even the company I bought it from says it is right oemworld. I put in 2 sticks of 256. No problems putting it in and the computer recognizes it because it shows 512 now. Here is the problem.

When I started the computer back up everything was fine then an error message came up saying I needed to update the video driver I assumed because of more memory and as far as I no she had never updated it and it is at least 4 years old. I first went to the HP Site and looked under her computer the 511w and it had a driver update there for a Intel Extreme Graphics Driver update 02/2005 version 6.14.10.3943 6.36MB, the one in her computer matched that except for the extreme part so I downloaded it and thought that was it. It worked ok for a while then started freezing up and the monitor would go to a black screen. I got looking and hers was an 810E (I think I remember that?s what it was) anyway I went to the Intel site and found the driver that should have been put in it was for the 810E chip set. I have an extra computer here at home that is also the 511w so I downloaded that driver into mine and everything works fine. Anyway I went to her place and was going to roll back the extreme driver I had put in and then put the one in from Intel. I went into device driver and open the adapter and double clicked on it and went to the driver and clicked ... Read more

My computer has a problem with crashing while playing a video in full screen. When it crashes the screen turns black while the speakers give out a buzzing noise. Everything is unresposive the only solution is to turn it off with the power button. It happens in any full screen video online or offline and even visualizations from windows media player and iTunes, but only in full screen. I don't think it's overheating either because sometimes it takes 30 mins to crash and other times it will crash immediately when put in full screen. *I've tried setting it back to factory settings thus reinstalling windows. *All the directx features are working with no reported problem there.*
I don't think it's a memory issue in the computer, as my specs are:
Windows 7 64-bit
Processor: intel core i5 3.20 GHz
Ram: 8 GB
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 220
Graphics card memory: 0.5 GB

Hi, I am having several problems with my computer, wondering if I am infected with something? First noticed the computer running slowly. Then began freezing all the time. Then noticed that when I switch to a new internet page at times I notice a small black screen that will pop-up or flash on the page, but only for a second...almost like you'd get on a "run command" type scrren, if that makes sense. Also, I keep getting a security options failure. It seems this only comes after the computer freezes and I try to hit alt, control, delete to bring up task manager. I have tried to run Norton Anti-virus and spybot. I've used CCleaner to remove unnecessary files/clean. The virus software finds nothing unusual (usually some cookies with tracking, but no virus. HI,
I was being helped by Quads on the norton community. I know he helps out here too. Quads was helping me but I screwed up, thought I was helping to save time(yes, I know I saved you alot of time now) but I did not follow complete instructions.

This is what was done so far

OTL scan was run

adwcleaner was run

had adwcleaner delete all and reboot

ran combofix

when computer was rebooting it got stuck on the black screen for about an hour

Had to restart it again and when it did it restored to a previous date

This is where I screwed up

Since it was a previous date it seemed like nothing had taken place, no downloads on the desktop.

Ran the otl scan again

adwcleaner again, log looked the same as first time so I deleted all again

Ran combofix and rebooted and it gave me a log

That is where I am stuck, I dont know whether to leave these downloads on the computer, delete them

I dont think that Quads is going to help me anymore since I messed up, so I was wondering if anyone else could help. I just really want to finish what was started. The computer was stuck on the black screen this morning and finally got it restarted after about 5 times. But I do think there is some kind of virus. Still have adwcleaner and combofix downloaded on the computer. Dont know if I should delete them or what.

Thanks

Kim

If you are having actual BSODs you should have a dump file you could upload to OneDrive and give us a link.  If you have not changed the Protection settings, it would be a Memory, dmp in the Windows directory,
I assume Win 10?
Have you made any internal changes to hardware?
I got a virus once after downloading WinRAR.
Check the Event Viewer to see if you have any reoccurring error or warning messages.  Ones related to Kernel power are usually due to the Blue Screen but are not the cause,

Have you installed anything lately? There could be some program or service doing something that isn't needed.
How's the case temperature? Perhaps it's running too hot.

Hi, I'm having a problem with my laptop where it will freeze, giving me a screen of fuzzy blocks of colour. This has only happened when I'm playing games, and will almost always happen 10-60 mins after starting a game.
When it freezes I can still move the cursor (represented by its own fuzzy block) and the audio continues for a few seconds then I get a buzzing. If I try alt+tab or ctrl+alt+dlt I can't move the cursor any more either.

The laptop doesn't feel like its overheating, it often gets a lot hotter than it is at these points. I have tried running it just off AC as I've been having some problems with my battery recently that I thought were connected but the same happened.

Any ideas?

A:Screen Freezing/Crashing while playing games

Even though you do not suspect and over heating issue. Clean out all air vents with a can of air. Also go to the manufacture of the laptop Dell go to Support/Drivers locate the model number studio 1558 Make sure you select Windows 7 64bit. Download any updated video drivers available, install them then reboot. Also try temporarly disabling your anti virus while playing games also end tasking any unneeded tasks or programs while playing. These can use up RAM which can also slow down your game and Windows.
Also go to Start type in Msconfig click the Startup tap and uncheck non essential Microsoft items also do not uncheck any anti virus items. Click ok, then reboot.

A lot of startup and running programs in the back ground can slow down your system. Do a disk cleanup. Also try defraging your hard drive.

Try these let us know.

Hello,I am not sure if my computer is infected.Yesterday, my computer started freezing (crashing), a few times the blue screen came up. It takes a random amount of time for it to freeze. Sometimes it freezes when Windows initializes, sometimes it freezes on the user log in screen, and most of the time it freezes when the auto start programs begin to run. I've ran MBAM and Super AntiSpyware, and Super AntiSpyware found a trojan in my Playstation Emulator (which i began using about 4 days ago). I will be playing CODMW3 or a few other games that I own, when both my screens go black, and the sound lags... Like if any sound that was currently playing when it crashed drags on forever.... I am not sure if the computer itself is crashing because all my fans are running and lights are on... ??

I am tried MANY things to narrow down the problem, such as...
Tried using a different video card... Same thing....
Tried adjusting the amount of ram, and doing memory diag...
Checking Temps of my CPU and GPU.. both in decent ranges...

This issue is never at the same time.. I could be playing for 30 minutes before it goes, or sometimes right when i jump into the first game of the day...

I even thought this could be a windows issue, as unlikely as that was.. And re installed windows..

My specs are...

AMD Phenom II X4 840, 3.20 GHz

MSI Nvidia 550 ti
Rocket Fish 5.1 Audio card

Please I would love for any insights on why this might be....

One other thing.. Maybe is related maybe not... My 700W power supply, Rocket fish aswell... Will stay "kinda" running when i shut down my computer.. Or the 120 m fan will stay running with its lights on...

I've been using Big Fish Games for PC for several years with rarely an issue. For many months now I've been having problems with about 85% of their games crashing to a black screen and having to manually reboot. I also tried downloading the same games from other sites with the same problem so it's not specifically Big Fish. I see others having problems on the forums but a majority of the players have no issues and can play these games. I don't know why this is happening more and more often and it's very frustrating when you really get interested in a game only to have to uninstall it. It is so odd because some games work perfectly fine with very detailed graphics. Some I get through the entire trial and then it crashes after purchase. What is wrong with my computer? Can you help? Hello I have a problem with my computer crashing and giving me a black screen. When it's crashing the computer keeps on running but the screen says no signal and I have to reboot.
I don't really know if its a virus because it wont give itself the time for a search or if something has been overheated but it has been doing this for a while now. If i stay away from the computer for a day or so it takes a longer time before it crashes.
Also i just vacuumed the computers fans for the first time in a long time since before it had been quite dusty.
Anyone knows anything to help me?

Hello...

Since Yesterday games crash my computer, the monitor only shows black screen [there is no response from keyboard, windows etc] and there is a strange noise perhaps from the power supply, I can't figure out where the noise is from...

This only happen when I'm playing games, no particular games, all games crash this way after 5 mints MAX. My only option is to reset the computer from the button on the case.

I'm not sure there is a blue screen involved in here I've unticked Automatically restart in Startup and Recovery and didn't see any black screen when the games crashed...

I've found a crash dump in C:\Windows\LiveKernelReports\WATCHDOG, I've run a little Analysis with WinDBG, I hope it's helpful:

I'm pretty much at my wits end. My computer keeps crashing randomly when I'm playing video games, and occasionally while watching movies or ripping. What happens is I'm in the middle of a game and my screen flickers to all black, the monitor gets a orange light indicating that the computer has stopped sending a signal, and yet my computer fans (and harddrives i believe) are still running. I then have to power off by holding the button down for 5 seconds because it won't restart with the reset button. Heres my specs to help:

Windows 2000 sp3
AMD T-bird 1.2
MSI K7T Turbo2 (MS-6330)
256 pc133 ram
Geforce 3 (forget model)
Desktar 30 gig HD
WD 120 gig HD
Sound blaster Live value
Cdrom
HP Cd writer

I replaced the power supply with a new one (300 watts, same as original) and I've replaced my geforce 2 with a geforce 3 and I"ve gotten the same results. I really want to know if theres some way I can test what exactly happens, like failing components, when my system is crashing. I've looked into the system monitor, but can anyone give me some counters to put in a log to help me rule out what could be going wrong? From what people tell me it SHOULD be powersupply or video card, but I've also heard frying an agp slot, or maybe my proc or my mobo is just going bad... Can any of those last three be legit reasons for this to happen? Do i need more than 300 watts and thats why this is happening? I do know my cpu gets to about 57 celsius when it cras... Read more

Hello, over the last week to week and a half my computer has been getting worse and worse. I think its triggered by right clicking objects although I dont think thats entirely whats causing the problem. The screen will freeze and then the monitor will turn black and the computer will have to be restarted. The problem can occur as frequently as 3 times in 10 minutes currently. From the last day upon restarting some images have traces of minor pixelation errors, especially the windows icon as the PC is restarting and certain other random/minor images like above my back/forward, refresh and stop bottons in IE appear pixelated. As I'm posting this the problem occured and the screen went to a blue screen and mentioned something of proceeding with a physical memory dump and i restarted right away. I have avast running with script blocker(although turned it off for the DDS) so I dont know what may have pentrated the PC to cause this if it malicious. I'm running a Dell 4600 with windows xp. A:freezing and then came black screen

This can be caused by a number of things.
The first thing to do is to find out if it is hardware or software related.
The best way to do this is to boot into the bios and leave it there for a bit.
If the problem arises when let in the bios screen then you know it is hardware.

Now (whether related or not) I cannot play any video in windows. In WMC all playback is on a black screen and the mouse pointer has gone. On Kodi the sound starts for a few seconds on a video then the whole program crashes. However strangely video plays fine from WMP?!

I have tried reinstalling Windows whilst keeping my personal files. However the problem remains. I've tried reinstalling graphics drivers and catalyst manager but no joy. I tried a system restore but all restore points come back with error messages. I tried a system refresh but even though I have the genuine original discs it says they are not valid... HELP!

Hi! I've been having a lot of problems since I bought this notebook on the italian hp store online (10 january 2017). The very first time I turned it on, it crashed after a few minutes. I tried to  put it on standby and then clicking any key on the keyboard, and nothing appeared but the cursor. After a hard reboot, I tried upgrading the BIOS (from 11 to 14 version) but it didn't work, as well as upgrading the drivers. The problem doesn't seem to be solved since just a few minutes ago all the windows closed and the desktop became black, showing the start bar only. Sometimes I have other problems too like the touchpad not working so well (I don't know if it is actually the problem though: when I click the right button it doesn't show anything, or it shows only part of the window). Also, once I got the "exception unknown software 0x80000003", I don't know if that could help as a clue. Last but not least, sometimes it goes totally black when I pass from the notebook mode to the tablet mode (it's a convertible 2 in 1, but I guess you know that). I'm sorry for my english, I hope I've explained myself thoroughly.Thank you for your time,Andrea.

After doing that rather than the black screen crash the computer went haywire with a bunch of lines across the screen. I just started working at this small sports shop and this is their laptop, not mine. But I need to use it for work and the guy they had "fix" it over the weekend didn't do a very good job ><. When I try to run some programs (most usually games, or programs that install games) then a black screen appears and nothing more happens. I can't get out of it, even if I alt-tab, alt-f4, or Ctrl-Alt-Del.

I did have hardware acceleration set to none for some reason, but i've put that back up to full and it still doesn't make a difference.

I'm running on Windows 98.

I've run all of these games before with no problems, and thinking it would be something to do with my graphics card (NVIDIA TNT 2 Model 64) I got the drivers from NVIDIA's site, yet when I run the program, it says it can't detect any NVIDIA graphics cards.

Help.

A:Black screen crashing when running some programs

Hiya

Are you still having this problem? If so, which version of DirectX are you running:

Go to Start | Run and type DXDIAG. In the first tab will be the version. Also, go to the Display tab, and see if all the tests work.

As for the games and programs, are they graphic intensive ones, like Paintshop or Call of Duty?

Plus, just in case its something conflicting, lets see a log, go to http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show other issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

Regards

eddie

Have been waiting for NVIDIA to fix their driver since windows 10 release. I tried the latest driver from windows update and they still crash to black screen on my Asus GT610, rolling back to the windows 8 driver and everything is fine.

Anyone else having trouble or know a fix for latest driver.

Hi,

I'm running into an issue where my computer is crashing and I can't figure out whats causing it. It goes directly to black screen (monitor shows lost signal) and initiates a restart and nothing in particular seems to trigger it.

What I'm getting in the system event viewer is the following:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: System Error
Event Category: (102)
Event ID: 1003
Date: 12/21/2011
Time: 10:04:59 PM
User: N/A
Computer:
Description:
Error code 10000050, parameter1 90909220, parameter2 00000000, parameter3 bf94bad1, parameter4 00000000.

I've attached the mini dump file as well, I've renamed it to .txt because it wouldn't let me attach a .dmp. The only thing I can think of that might have triggered it is I installed system mechanic and it repaired a bunch of registry stuff, and cleared some old files out, but once it started happening I restored back to before registry mechanic was installed.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Download BlueScreenView:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html
unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe to run the program.
when scanning is done, go to EDIT - Select All
Go to FILE - SAVE Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all of the content, and paste it into your next reply

The computer just goes to a black screen. Sometimes with the "crash sound".

To start off, here is my build:

ASRock Z77 Pro4 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel Core i5-3570 Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core
Refurbished: Western Digital RE3 WD1002FBYS 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Rosewill Xtreme Series RX750-S-B 750W Continuous @40°C
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model
Thermaltake V9 BlacX Flex Edition VN500M1W2N Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
(Used from a friend) EVGA 025-P3-1579-AR GeForce GTX 570

So I just recently built my own pc and there has been a few problems since. At first I would always get blue screened while playing games, it shut down to quickly for me to read the code but I soon found out it was because of my GPU over heating at about 80-100 degrees Celsius during game-play. I overclocked the fans and now it's at around 60 so that problem is ruled out. So now the problem remains with the black screen then a crash restart afterwards when playing gfx demanding games, in this case Guild Wars 2. I tried lowering the gfx settings to lowest and the problem still persists. Please if anyone out there can help, I would appreciate it a ton.

A:[Help] Black Screen Crashing During GFX Demanding Games

Hi and welcome to TSG.

A few things to look at and a cause for concern looking at your build:

1) Your power supply, although a decent wattage, is a cheap and nasty make. Quality is very important here especially for a gaming rig which puts much higher demand on the PSU than an everyday office / internet type PC. 40C is an unrealistic temperature for a PSU in a working PC, it will be hotter than that, so the PSUs output will likely be lower than its spec says.

2) Download and install HWMonitor (its free), run the program and screenshot the window. Then, leaving HWMonitor running, start up a game and play it for a couple of mins (hopefully without crashing). After a few minutes exit the game, screenshot HWMonitor again and post the two screenshots in a reply here.

3) Can you give us a DXDiag report. Click Start and type "dxdiag" (without the quotes) into the Run box and hit Enter. When the DXDiag window opens click the 'Save All Information' button (bottom right) and save the .txt file to your desktop or another location that you can get to. Go to the file and copy / paste the enter contents into a reply here.

Are all your drivers and Windows updates fully up to date?

I ran the windows memory diagnostics tool after getting a crash straight to black screen, not even 5% of the way in the computer rebooted and instead of loading the BIOS it just beeped repeatedly. I managed to get it to boot again, I burned memtest to a disk and ran it from the disk, even after 7 passes it showed no errors. Now I am unsure what to do next to identify the problem, I suspect that it's the hard drive at the moment.

A:Computer Crashing straight to black screen

Replace the ram, and try again. If that fails to correct the issue, move on to the HDD.

You can test the HDD from any tool from the manufacturer.

hi i have been having this problem for a while now. my computer is pretty old and just the other day i restored it to the "brand new" setting thinking it would resolve this issue.... well it hasn't. every time im on my computer and i run a few programs the computer will make a noise and the screen will turn black. it seems as if the computer is still on but the screen wont budge. i have to restart it by hand and repeat the process over and over. please help

A:Frequent computer crashing (black screen)

It most likely is a cooling issue more then the actual Operating System. If you can keep your computer alive for enough time download and install "speedfan" which allows you to see all the tempuartures when your using it. If it is the computer overheating then you need to go inside your case and check if the fans are running, if you are not exsperienced with hardware i would advice to get someone who is to do it for you

Hey,

My laptop (Asus A52F) starting acting up about a week ago. It seems to be seizing and then black-screening if I have it do anything more than one small task. For example it often freezes up during scans, when I plug in a hard drive or if I try to download absolutely anything and then I have to force shut down by holding the power button.
I've tried running a few different virus/malware scans (Super Anti Spyware, Ad-aware and Malware Bytes) and they found a couple little things but the compuet has still been acting up.
I've tried keeping an eye on the task manager while trying anything that usually freezes the computer and I'm seeing any jumps in the CPU. I've attempted to do a system restore as well but there is no restore point to use.
If anyone has any ideas I'd be very thankful.
Cheers.
